Sermon
Choosing Godly Speech 2 Timothy
Publisher transcript
Transcript
-
I'm sitting next to the playground at the newly renovated Navarra Park, watching children play and be happy,
-
and also thinking, meditating on 2 Timothy 2.16.
-
It says,
-
But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness.
-
Worldly and empty, here in this verse, are two descriptors that could really refer to a lot of talk, couldn't they?
-
Unconstructive seems like it would cover empty. That happens a lot.
-
Worldly mostly means stuff not to do with God. Also happens a lot.
-
It seems like we would be silent a good part of the time if we actually cut these things out.
-
However, the emphasis in this verse is on what will lead us to further godliness.
-
We're to be cutting out things that will lead us to further ungodliness,
-
and our lives should be built on things that will lead us to further godliness.
-
So if you speak, make your speech valuable. Make it encouragement. Make it godly.
-
Focus your eyes, your attention, your heart on Jesus and on His Word,
-
and these things will give you strength to make your life full of godliness.
