  13. Good morning, good morning, good morning.

  14. Let me tell you how blessed it is to be sermon-lord.

  15. I know Aaron and Caitlin are on their way here yet.

  16. God willing they will make it safely.

  17. They arrived late yesterday.

  18. So we have had a crazy week between people being at the hospital, getting checked out

  19. by the doctor, making appointments with other doctors.

  20. And it's a really active week of service.

  21. We're serving in the panning, serving at the light station, serving at the data entry dinner,

  22. which was yesterday.

  23. We had arts and crafts, a youth Bible study on Thursday night.

  24. On Tuesday night we had a great lesson that R.J. bought about forgiving for debts, the

  25. same forgiving for debt and what the Bible actually says about forgiving and or forgetting

  26. and what you should do those things.

  27. Really good lesson that was.

  28. It was just a really active week.

  29. But now it's a new week.

  30. It's Sunday.

  31. We're starting off the week with worshiping God.

  32. And so whatever went on last week, as good as it may be, we can count that as victory

  33. if you want.

  34. But today is a new day and we are serving the Lord with, I hope, worship for the next

  35. hour or so.

  36. And will there be preaching?

  37. Yes, yes there will.

  38. That's right around my t-shirt.

  39. I have to make that arts and crafts night a Friday night.

  40. And it's the first time I've ever painted a night.

  41. And that's my own estimation.

  42. And I think Josh's as well.

  43. That does look like a night.

  44. So we agree that it does look like a night.

  45. All right.

  46. So praise God.

  47. There is a membership meeting today after.

  48. I do not know if there's anything specific on the agenda, but we will meet.

  49. So if you need something on the agenda in the neighborhood of membership or in the neighborhood

  50. of the Monterey Spencer, like you think the church should buy X or a neighborhood of the

  51. minister, like you think the church should do X, you need to let us know what that is

  52. before the meeting begins.

  53. Once the meeting has begun, we start with a closed agenda so we don't do a bunch of

  54. new motions throughout and then sometimes that causes meetings to drag on and that kind

  55. of thing.

  56. But you're welcome to put your motion on the agenda to pull it together.

  57. You can give that to Amalia, who is our Treasurer and also our moderator, or to me.

  58. And we'll make that happen.

  59. So that is today.

  60. Also upcoming, just in case you had forgotten or hadn't noticed, there are the two novice

  61. role playing events.

  62. They are this coming Friday.

  63. So if you have never played a role playing game or want to try it and try it out, you

  64. do have to be 12 years old or older.

  65. Okay.

  66. So that's our age limit on those two events.

  67. And it's gotta be for folks who either 30 hours, sorry, 40 hours or less experience or

  68. never played in a Christian environment before.

  69. We do it distinctly Christian, no foul language, no discussing imagery, nothing like that.

  70. We don't do any of that.

  71. So that's Friday and we do have some people RSVP for the first one on that Friday.

  72. So that's really what it feels to you to get your RSVP in soon.

  73. And then the following Monday will be really, not the week following Monday, but nine days

  74. later.

  75. Okay.

  76. Ten days later.

  77. Okay.

  78. So that's upcoming and you've got other stuff in your bulletin to be aware of and we're

  79. in a quiet moment here, but depending on the weather or the daily importance and situation

  80. going on in the room.

  81. We're not in your Destination.

  82. We're on 이

  83. Don't don't think about romance

  84. Just think about the Lord put your thoughts on God

  85. and let the Lord speak to you as we try together to reach the light of Jesus. Let us pray together and we'll worship a little more.

  86. Father in heaven we are grateful. It has been

  87. well

  88. It's kind of a funny phrase to say but the truth is it has been a wonderful life even in the midst of difficulty

  89. even facing

  90. diagnoses that we don't like

  91. even dealing with vehicle struggles that we don't like

  92. or

  93. Trying to overcome relational difficulties

  94. dealing with family members that we don't connect with well for whatever reason

  95. Trying to overcome fatigue today for example if we had a really long day yesterday or

  96. if we're off schedule for whatever reason trying to overcome health issues if we've been sick and we want to be

  97. fully on path to worship you. So Lord we're just asking you now. Will you take care of all that?

  98. Just help us set it all down and focus during this time on your holiness

  99. on your mercy

  100. Your love for us

  101. You are incredible and to anyone else who's somebody who doesn't know you they might even consider you a contradiction

  102. It doesn't make any sense how a just and holy God can forgive a

  103. wicked

  104. or repentant people

  105. We have been wicked. We have done wrong willfully and we are repentant to turn to you today

  106. So we are grateful that that forgiveness is available for Jesus your son and we're asking you to work in us now as we reach new heights

  107. You Jesus we praise you together

  108. We lift our voices our hearts our minds in your direction do as you will and this your people and we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

  109. Did you hear the mountains tremble? Did you hear the oceans roar? When the people rose to sing of Jesus Christ the risen one?

  110. Did you hear the people tremble? Did you hear the sea roar? When the rocks began to sing of Jesus Christ the baby one?

  111. And we can see the sky too lowly, a mighty river through the nations, the young head of the town of Jesus

  112. We have been wicked. We have done wrong willfully and we are repentant to turn to you today

  113. So we are grateful that that forgiveness is available for Jesus your son and we are asking you to work in us now as we reach new heights

  114. You Jesus we praise you together We lift our voices our hearts our minds in your direction do as you will and this your people and we pray in Jesus name

  115. Did you hear the darkness tremble? When all the saints joined in one song? And all the streams flow as one river to wash away our brokenness

  116. And we can see the sky too lowly, a mighty river through the nations, the young head of the town of Jesus

  117. We have been wicked. We have done wrong willfully and we are asking you to work in us now as we reach new heights

  118. Did you hear the darkness tremble? When all the saints joined in one song? And all the streams flow as one river to wash away our brokenness

  119. Soak down in your heart Soak down in your soul The waters of the land are quite darkened

  120. Did you hear the darkness tremble? Did you hear the oceans roar? When the people lost to be now Jesus Christ the living one

  121. Did you hear the waves? Did you hear the waves?

  122. Oh, what I would do to have a kind of faith that takes to come out and explode

  123. Come on!

  124. I need to call out my name in the lap of fear Reminding me of all the times I tried before I failed I'm going to keep on telling me time and time again

  125. I'm going to keep on telling me time and time again I'm going to keep on telling me time and time again

  126. The voice of truth says do not be afraid And the voice of truth that takes before my knowing Out of all the voices calling out to me I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

  127. Oh, what I would do to have a kind of strength that takes to stand before time

  128. Just a singing school, surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors Shaking in their armor, missionaries have a strength to stand

  129. I need to call out my name as you pass through me Reminding me of all the times I tried before I failed I'm going to keep on telling me time and time again I'm going to keep on telling me time and time again

  130. Never win, never win

  131. But the voice of truth tells me a different story

  132. The voice of truth says do not be afraid

  133. And the voice of truth says this is for my own sake

  134. Out of all the voices calling out to me

  135. I was children too, and I didn't have to leave the boy's side

  136. But the storm was just the right size with the giant all around

  137. The waves they won't see so far, and the waves are just looking at us

  138. I was so afraid when we were old, when I stopped and

  139. I looked into the town and saw the dreams that we had all along

  140. But the voice of truth tells me a different story

  141. The voice of truth says do not be afraid

  142. And the voice of truth says this is for my own sake

  143. Out of all the voices calling out to me

  144. I was children too, and I didn't have to leave the boy's side

  145. But the voice of truth says this is for my own sake

  146. We come to that part in our service where we have an opportunity to share with one another

  147. how the Lord has inspired us this last week, and sometimes it's just by something you've experienced, sometimes it's something you said

  148. I encourage you to find your inspiration in scripture because then you know that it came from the Lord for sure

  149. But even if you encourage to find something along the way, it's not difficult to verify that, make sure that it's scriptural, that it makes sense with what God is teaching us

  150. And so if you had an experience like that during the week, you had the opportunity to come and share it with others

  151. Realize that a lot of times when you're getting something from God, it's not meant for you alone

  152. God's a big God, and yes he has a big message, and he has a big message for your life

  153. But as disciples of the Lord, a disciple is a person who hears from the Lord and then shares what they have heard

  154. And so while God may have affected your life, and you say I changed this, I did that, this was exciting to me, whatever

  155. If you don't deliver that message to a lot of other people, then you miss out

  156. Just yesterday, Ariana, so Ariana has been watching quite a bit of Right Now Media this week

  157. And the reason she's watching quite a bit of Right Now Media this week is because she's working on her multiplication facts

  158. And when working on her multiplication facts, when she falls behind on the schedule that she and I set, then she is only allowed to watch Right Now Media

  159. Not any other TV, Right Now Media is purely Christian, Christian messages, Godly shows, kids shows, things like that that are all Christian

  160. If you don't know this, you can get a free membership to Right Now Media through New Heights and many people

  161. In fact, we have, I think we have like 300 or 397 or something like that folks across the state of Toledo who have gotten free Right Now Media membership through our church

  162. And so if you haven't done that, I recommend you do that

  163. Anyway, so she's watching this really cool show that she found on there called, help me, Ryan, what is it?

  164. Defrades, I always mess up the word, Ryan Defrades, Secret Agent

  165. And every one of the shows, Ryan's on an adventure, something happens, he's a secret agent

  166. And then after just a little while, they pull his mom in and she's a secret agent too

  167. And so it's really Ryan and his mom, but the show is still named after him

  168. And then he doesn't really like his mom going along with him on missions, you know, but at first, yeah, but then he realizes that she's pretty useful

  169. And so I think she saves his life once or twice, that kind of thing

  170. So then after that, actually is like based on the story, she sees the one that actually teaches Ryan the lessons

  171. Yeah, so she's teaching him along the way

  172. But the point is, so she's watching that show and I was working on something at the table and lit some data entry stuff

  173. And I was listening to the show in the background

  174. It was like one show after another and the message was really cool, like the story was cool

  175. It tied in the biblical message, it went into the verses from the Bible, the story from the Bible, it was really cool

  176. And I said to Ariana, I said, you know what, this is a really cool show, you know

  177. And we didn't even know it was there until she started poking around right now, right now, finding something else to watch, it's a really cool show

  178. And then I told Ariana, I said, I think we should probably tell other people about this show, which is what I'm doing right now

  179. But that being said, that is when the Lord jumped in my heart and said to me, yeah, if you know something really cool, if you know something right

  180. If you know anything that's true, right, if you have experienced any consolation of the Lord, if you know love, right

  181. Then you ought to say, you know, I think we should tell other people about this experience

  182. And so not only is that what Christians are called to, talk about the King, talk about God, talk about Jesus, talk about Lordship, right

  183. Talk about avoiding hell, talk about going to heaven, talk about abundant life, all those kinds

  184. Not only are we supposed to do that, but then on top of that, you can bring it here to the inspirational moment

  185. Where we're all going to be able to be inspired by the same things that you've experienced

  186. And then we can learn better to listen to the Lord, which we'll talk about that a little more later, okay

  187. So what do you got? Have you read something this week? Do you have it?

  188. How's the Lord encouraging you?

  189. How many days?

  190. I'm just going to encourage everybody, I mean, the idea of inspiration is that you have to be inspired

  191. So if you do have something, I'd love to hear it, because that's what inspires me when I hear something from somebody else

  192. Or a show or something, I just like the voice of truth, that song that just played

  193. Inspired me to just share quick testimony, because I'm just getting God and the glory

  194. But I did what would be almost, I think, impossible to share Jesus in a meeting in front of a bunch of people at work

  195. That may not want to hear about God, because we only had a quick comment, and I prayed for the team

  196. And I just heard that voice saying, you can't do this, you're too weak, you're not smart enough

  197. They're going to be upset with you instead

  198. There was a couple people that said thank you, and maybe they never heard the gospel the first time

  199. So I'm just thanking God that I could do that, that was the first thing I wanted to share

  200. The second thing is, if anybody's here in the Bible Scholar, I'm going to throw a joke 38

  201. Anybody know what joke 38 is? Anyone?

  202. Alright, joke 38 is where God comes in the world when he talks to Job

  203. It's the end of the chapter, it's one of the most amazing chapters I've ever read, joke 38

  204. God does the unthinkable, he doesn't talk about angels, he doesn't talk about glory

  205. He doesn't talk about his kingdom, he doesn't talk about anything but what he's created

  206. He talks about the intelligent design that God has created

  207. He says things like, do you know where the waves halt and when they begin?

  208. Do you know how a mother bird goes out and gets food and brings it back to his young?

  209. Surely you must know, Job, how she knows how much to bring back

  210. You have to know these things, right?

  211. Do you know why there's goats that can climb up on mountains, they're called the hyrax

  212. They were called goats, we call them goats today

  213. He goes through creatures and he goes through the waters and the oceans

  214. He talks about dinosaurs and possibly dragons

  215. He's like, surely Job, you were there when it happened, right?

  216. You've got to tell me what's going on

  217. I'm telling you, read it for yourself, it's so good

  218. I was just thinking of two things from that

  219. One comes from John chapter 3

    John 3 chapter mention

  220. Jesus said, how am I supposed to explain heavenly things to you

  221. if you can't understand earthly things

  222. And then finally, I was also thinking about the Tower of Babel

  223. Because like you were talking about, the Bible just starts opening up all over

  224. Everywhere, I could go way more in this, but going fast

  225. But the Tower of Babel, we think that God has literally stopped in this Tower of Babel

  226. because they're going to reach heaven, they might die

  227. Is it that reason or is it because they're wasting their time?

  228. Because God considers what is weak strong

  229. He considers what we think is advancements and so much importantness

  230. is not to God at all

  231. It's watching God do miracles every day through everyday life

  232. Because what he does is he confuses all their languages

  233. And so they go out and they begin to live

  234. And you just see how God is using every one of these people now

  235. because they're not so caught up in, well, we can do this and we can finish this

  236. And the reason I'm saying that is last night we were in the data entry

  237. And this is what God really put in my heart

  238. And it was funny, I'll tell you exactly what it meant to me

  239. It was like Joe 38, we were listening to someone's brain tone

  240. It was Mario, it was the old Mario song

  241. And I was like, man, I wish I could hear the whole song

  242. And not just the quick part of the Mario because I love that song

  243. And so Brother Josh played the Mario song

  244. And I said, isn't it amazing that God gave that person, that intellectual design

  245. to make that song? I'm not like that

  246. I would never think of three notes that could make a beautiful song

  247. Or what everybody does in everyday

  248. Even people that write art or do comic books

  249. Because I don't enjoy comic books

  250. Or people that put stories together

  251. I mean, every time I think about God's creation

  252. Or just animals that do amazing things

  253. Or even the stars in the sky or the heavens

  254. And I will finish with this because I was going to share it didn't come Tuesday

  255. But I was challenged to read Genesis chapter

  256. Or 50 chapters of Genesis

  257. And I was like, oh my gosh, I'm not doing that

  258. But I did, it was awesome

  259. Thank God that I was there to do that

  260. But I was so stuck in Genesis chapter 1

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  261. Because Genesis chapter 1 explains why God is God and we're not

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  262. Because let's just say I was God for a minute, just like Bruce Almighty

  263. I would create the heavens and the earth

  264. I wouldn't think about how to actually do it in order

  265. If you notice, if you read it for yourself, every day matters

  266. God says make light or take away darkness and make light

  267. Because in light there's creation

  268. You can't have creation without light because it's too dark

  269. Things won't exist

  270. I would be like, well I'm going to make animals

  271. And they'll die and the cold will suffer

  272. But every day specifically God does in the absolute correct order to do what he does

  273. And so I just want to encourage all of us just to think about it

  274. Because I can't go all day

  275. But just the things that we do every day

  276. The amazing things that we do every day

  277. I mean, God has created us to do things that not everybody can do

  278. So I just, for you yourself, God has also for me specifically done something for you

  279. That you do for God's glory

  280. It's just so awesome to think about how God does that through everybody every day

  281. Amen

  282. You are unique, you are equal because you are unique

  283. Alright, who else?

  284. Haley

  285. I had one at one of my residents at work

  286. His name is Harvey

  287. He asked me to bring this so we could be frank, right?

  288. And we were just talking and I told him I'm here for him

  289. And he just kind of broke down and told me that a few years ago

  290. He was a wrestling coach for this really well known wrestling team

  291. And he was on his way to fight the game

  292. And he got hit by a drunk driver

  293. And then he went to rehab

  294. He was on his way to his first rehab appointment

  295. And somebody blew a stop sign and he got hit again by a drunk driver

  296. And then he recovered and he did rehab

  297. He still struggles to walk and struggles with a lot of day to day stuff

  298. He was also just diagnosed with cancer last week

  299. So just keep up with your mom's prayers

  300. He's a really sweet heart

  301. He's a progressive Christian

  302. He goes to church every Sunday

  303. So I told him that we would keep him in our house in prayers

  304. And that we would love to pray for him

  305. What's his name again?

  306. Harvey

  307. Harvey, okay

  308. Alright, do we have another one?

  309. Do you want to share your McDonald's story before you go to the bathroom?

  310. Yeah, sure

  311. Alright, go ahead

  312. I was, so, two stores this week

  313. Until day or above

  314. But I was, I'm on my way to work deciding if I wanted to get breakfast

  315. I decided to get breakfast

  316. I was just getting a hash brown

  317. I just had enough time to get breakfast and make it to work on time

  318. No in between

  319. Well, I pay and then as I'm paying I'm hit

  320. Like, I need to pay for the person behind me

  321. So I paid for her food

  322. It was more expensive than my hash brown

  323. And so I go up to the next window

  324. And I'm waiting

  325. And they tell me that they just ran out

  326. And they have to drop fresh ones

  327. So it's going to be a few minutes

  328. And I'm like, great

  329. So I pull over and I'm like watching the clock

  330. I have to get work on time

  331. And she, the lady who I paid for also was waiting

  332. So she pulled up next to me and she knocked on my window

  333. And she was just broke down crying

  334. She asked me if she could give me a hug

  335. And so we got out and we were talking

  336. She had spent all day yesterday

  337. And throughout the night driving

  338. And as you can kind of see her granddaughter was hit

  339. In a, with five drunk drivers two nights before

  340. She was younger

  341. I think she said she was only 20

  342. And they were snow-cold

  343. And were pulling her legs for that day

  344. So she was there for her son

  345. Buying breakfast for her and her son

  346. So she hit me in the hospital

  347. And she said that she was just very touched

  348. That she just, you know, she was just

  349. She was there for my breakfast that day

  350. She thought she was there to buy breakfast

  351. And to have an encounter with God in this church

  352. That's good stuff

  353. Alright, we've got time for one more

  354. One more

  355. We're going twice

  356. Alright, let's pray together

  357. And then we have a pause in offering

  358. And then farmer two and then off the children will go off to their classrooms

  359. And we'll go to the Word of the Lord

  360. And I'm excited about that

  361. And so, Brother Tim

  362. Would you be able to send this prayer?

  363. Sure

  364. Our Lord, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

  365. Thank you so much for all that you've done for us

  366. God, it's so sweet

  367. You've blessed us so much

  368. In spite of what our country has become

  369. You've still blessed us

  370. And we are people that give you the third word

  371. And take them to Herod the Heights

  372. And guide us to where we need to go

  373. Keep us growing

  374. Teach us to give our time, our calendar, our money

  375. Whatever we need to do to get to you

  376. For the Kingdom

  377. And for those who are starting with sin and sin

  378. We have continued to reach them

  379. And that's our hope

  380. In other words, that sin will take our other life

  381. And we'll continue to grow

  382. Personally, with the very word of the name

  383. I'm starting with sin and sin

  384. And with the very word of the name

  385. As the plates go round out, I'll share a praise from last night

  386. I was intending to go to the data entry thing, but I couldn't make it

  387. Later that night, about 7 o'clock, Becky called me crying

  388. She blew out a tire on the highway and scared the life out of her

  389. She was able to pull off, get off on Wills Road

  390. And I went over there and changed her tire for her

  391. She made a home save

  392. She was already scheduled, had an appointment to go to Costco to get a few tires today

  393. So, good thing, but I'm just glad she's safe

  394. Amen

  395. I could stop and count the steps in

  396. Like diamonds in my hand

  397. But those trophies could not equal to the grace

  398. My wish I've done

  399. In the night of the road

  400. I'll make my choice

  401. And find my glory in the power of the Lord

  402. In every victory

  403. When peace and harmony

  404. Must hold such strength

  405. Must hold such hope

  406. His choice alone

  407. In Christ the Lord where I glory

  408. His grace I every be

  409. And only His hand of mercy

  410. Could reach beyond my weakness to my knees

  411. Now I can sing no greater armor

  412. Than just to know Him more

  413. And to count my days well often

  414. To the glory of God

  415. In Christ the Lord

  416. I'll make my choice

  417. And find my glory in the power of the Lord

  418. In every victory

  419. When peace and harmony

  420. Must hold such strength

  421. Must hold such hope

  422. In Christ the Lord

  423. I'll make my choice

  424. And find my glory in the power of the Lord

  425. In every victory

  426. When peace and harmony

  427. Must hold such strength

  428. Must hold such hope

  429. In Christ the Lord

  430. Must hold such strength

  431. Must hold such hope

  432. In Christ the Lord

  433. There's a place

  434. Where mercy reigns

  435. And never lies

  436. There's a place

  437. Where streams of grace

  438. Flow with life

  439. Where all the love

  440. I've ever found

  441. Feels like a flood

  442. It's flowing down

  443. At the cross, at the cross

  444. I surrender my life

  445. I'm in awe of you

  446. I'm in awe of you

  447. Where your love and prayer

  448. And my sin washed white

  449. I'm all to you

  450. I'm all to you

  451. Jesus

  452. There's a place

  453. Where sin and shame

  454. Are part of us

  455. My heart

  456. Where my heart

  457. Has peace with God

  458. And forgives

  459. Where all the love

  460. I've ever found

  461. Feels like a flood

  462. It's flowing down

  463. At the cross, at the cross

  464. I surrender my life

  465. I'm in awe of you

  466. I'm in awe of you

  467. Where your love and prayer

  468. And my sin washed white

  469. I'm all to you

  470. I'm all to you

  471. Jesus

  472. Where all the hope is found

  473. On holy ground

  474. Here I bow down

  475. Here I bow down

  476. Here I bow down

  477. Here I bow down

  478. Here I bow down

  479. Here I bow down

  480. At the cross, at the cross

  481. I surrender my life

  482. I'm in awe of you

  483. I'm in awe of you

  484. Where your love and prayer

  485. And my sin washed white

  486. I'm all to you

  487. I'm all to you

  488. At the cross, at the cross

  489. I surrender my life

  490. I'm in awe of you

  491. I'm in awe of you

  492. Where your love and prayer

  493. And my sin washed white

  494. I'm all to you

  495. I'm all to you

  496. I'm all to you

  497. I'm all to you

  498. Jesus

  499. If faith can move a mountain

  500. Let the mountains move

  501. We come with expectation

  502. Waiting here for you

  503. We're waiting here for you

  504. You're the Lord of all creation

  505. And still in all my heart

  506. You're the author of salvation

  507. Your love is from the stars

  508. We're waiting here for you

  509. With our hands lifted high

  510. We're waiting here for you

  511. We're waiting here for you

  512. For you

  513. You've given everything you promised

  514. Your faithfulness is true

  515. And the blessed blood of your presence

  516. All we need is you

  517. We're waiting here for you

  518. With our hands lifted high

  519. You're the Lord

  520. And if you need us all

  521. We'll be here for you

  522. I'm all to you

  523. I'm all to you

  524. In spirit with you all

  525. We will sing our praises

  526. Sing hallelujah

  527. We're waiting here for you

  528. With our hands lifted high

  529. You're the Lord

  530. And if you need us all

  531. We'll be here for you

  532. We're waiting here for you

  533. With our hands lifted high

  534. You're the Lord

  535. And if you need us all

  536. We'll be here for you

  537. I'm all to you

  538. Sherry and I found a new action TV show

  539. that we've been watching, streaming

  540. I wouldn't say binging, but streaming

  541. I can't think of what the name of it is exactly

  542. It's about a rescue team

  543. It's an Australian show, produced in Australia

  544. And on that show there was a particular episode

  545. and there was a young lady

  546. and she was running

  547. She had run from some guys who were trying to abduct her

  548. and then she explained that the reason they were trying to abduct her

  549. was because she had written a software for a company

  550. It was a game and she had completed it

  551. and she turned it over to her boss

  552. and her boss took the game and was going to release it

  553. and make a ton of money and not give her any of the rights to it

  554. and so they were trying to get her

  555. because she had gotten a copy of the game on a hard drive

  556. and they were trying to get that back

  557. so they could make sure that she wouldn't release it as freeware

  558. and that was the whole kind of plot of the show

  559. One of the men who was on the rescue team

  560. was sitting talking with her and she was getting ready to run again

  561. and he said, if you run now, you'll be running forever

  562. they will always chase you

  563. and I thought about that and how that theme has reoccurred a number of times

  564. in various police shows and watching NCIS

  565. and all these different shows

  566. and it's, if you run from the law, you'll always be running

  567. if you run from those who hate you, you'll always be running

  568. The truth is that I think we kind of inherently know in ourselves

  569. that if we're always running from our problems

  570. if that's your go-to method of handling whatever the difficulty is that you're facing

  571. is to run away

  572. to not confront the problem, not try to talk it out, work it out, ask the right questions, get to the bottom of it

  573. if you're not trying to do that

  574. you'll wind up running pretty much from everything for your whole life

  575. and the end result of that is not necessarily what people think it is

  576. for example, people think, well, I'll eventually stop running

  577. but the truth is, once you establish a habit of running away from your problems

  578. you pretty much never stop running

  579. you may face certain things that really are important to you

  580. you'll wrestle with those things because you realize that you just can't go away

  581. but I know people who have run away from their problems for their whole life

  582. then been diagnosed with cancer and then just ignored the fact that they had cancer

  583. diagnosed with stage one cancer or two cancer for whatever

  584. they totally ignored it for several years until it was stage four cancer and it was untreatable

  585. and they ran their whole lives and then they get to stage four cancer

  586. and they're like, well, I guess I'm going to have to treat it now because I'm going to die

  587. and they're like, well, I guess it's too late now

  588. because you just ran for three years from it and pretended it wasn't happening

  589. I've known people who had a calling by God

  590. God said, I want you to come, be the church, follow the Lord, do this for me, whatever

  591. they had a calling by God and they ran away from it

  592. we sang the song, the voice of truth

  593. the armies of Israel were called out to face the Philistines

  594. and one particular Philistine from Gath in particular

  595. Gathite, I guess you'd call him

  596. a great big guy was coming out and he was challenging the whole Israelite army

  597. if any one of them would stand up against him and none of them would

  598. and as the song says, shaking in their armors they refused

  599. and then young David who was a kid, not even an adult

  600. agreed to go out and stand up against him

  601. and he said, it's not my fight, it's God's fight and I'll do it

  602. and you think after David defeated Goliath that that entire army went home

  603. regretting the fact that none of them had the courage to stand up and let God fight that fight?

  604. I submit to you, once you start running, you get good at running

  605. that's what you get good at and the end is always the same

  606. and it isn't that you eventually stop running and turn and face the difficulties

  607. because people will go on and they get good at running and they just keep on running

  608. what happens is you get run down, that's what happens

  609. you wear out your shoes, you wear out your creativity, you get old

  610. you think I'll never have to deal with this problem

  611. and then the problem comes upon you and you're just run down

  612. you don't have anything left

  613. one who runs away always instead of purposefully gets run down

  614. if you run purposefully like I'm running training for a marathon

  615. then eventually you might be able to run a marathon if you did that training every day

  616. or if you run for office and you really dedicate yourself to running for office

  617. and you find people to vote for you and you get promotions

  618. and you get yourself aired on social media

  619. you might eventually run office, that's running purposefully with a goal

  620. and then you either meet the goal or you don't

  621. and then maybe you move on to another goal

  622. and in the process of running purposefully like that

  623. instead of getting run down you actually get built up

  624. but running away from everything is exhausting

  625. so I want you to bear that in mind as we look at a scripture today

  626. and it's a relatively short passage of scripture

  627. and the truth is it's a relatively short message I think

  628. but it's poignant, it speaks to us, it speaks to me in particular

  629. and I hope it will speak to you in a unique way

  630. so maybe give me a little hoot holler or take just a deep breath

  631. and kind of moan if that's all you can manage

  632. as we go to 1 Chronicles chapter 11, here we go

    1 Chronicles 11 chapter mention

  633. Thank you, this is God's word, there's a moan out there, I heard it today

  634. I miss the guy who used to yell Yahtzee every time we did that

  635. I think somebody in here used to yell Uno

  636. but anyway it doesn't matter, 1 Chronicles chapter 11

    1 Chronicles 11 chapter mention

  637. and we're going to read then from verse 21 and following

  638. verse 21 says, of the three in the second rank

  639. so these are people who are, they're not the top rank

  640. they're not the heroes if you will that everyone looks up to

  641. but they're pretty heroic, it says of the three in the second rank

  642. he was the most honored and became their commander

  643. however he did not attain to the first three, didn't rise up to be the first rank

  644. Vinaya the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel

  645. mighty in deeds struck down the two sons of Ariel of Moab

  646. so there's two soldiers and he went and fought them both

  647. and they were big and mighty soldiers and he defeated them both

  648. he also went down and killed a lion inside a pit on a snowy day

  649. and he killed an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits tall

  650. so cubit is generally speaking the measure from your elbow to the tip of your finger

  651. and in most men it runs roughly 18 inches

  652. so your height, you might be a little more or a little less

  653. by the way if you measure that you'll never be without a ruler

  654. at least not completely

  655. this guy was five cubits tall that makes him seven and a half feet

  656. alright and Vinaya defeated him

  657. now in the Egyptians hand was a spear like a weaver's beam

  658. so we're talking about a spear, a big very mighty spear

  659. probably seven and a half foot long

  660. and a weaver's beam would be about two and a half inches in diameter

  661. so if you can picture you're talking about a spear that's about that big around

  662. okay not talking about a beam, it's not as big as a two by four

  663. we're talking about a big heavy spear

  664. a spear like that will hold the weight of about a thousand

  665. or about two thousand pounds, it'll hold a ton

  666. you can stress it, it'll bend a little bit but it won't snap

  667. it's a big stick okay

  668. and it happened to be a big pointy stick

  669. and Vinaya went out against him and defeated him

  670. it says now in the Egyptians hand was a spear like a weaver's beam

  671. but he went down to him with a club

  672. those of you who are experienced in any way in melee combat

  673. or know anything from the gaming background or whatever

  674. realize that a club versus a spear has a problem right

  675. what's the problem with a spear versus a club, Bron?

  676. range on the spear

  677. yeah, reach, right

  678. so now he wasn't going to throw his spear

  679. that's not that kind of a spear really

  680. but so the spear always strikes first is the bottom line

  681. so he went against him with a club

  682. and snatched the spear from the Egyptians hand

  683. and killed him with his own spear

  684. these things Vinaya the son of Jehoiada did

  685. and had a name as well as the three mighty men

  686. so he didn't necessarily join the first rank

  687. he was from the second rank

  688. but he did incredibly and he had a name that was known

  689. amongst all the people like the three mighty men

  690. and we'll go one verse further

  691. behold he was honored among the thirty of the second rank

  692. but he did not attain to the three in the first rank

  693. David appointed him over his guard

  694. so he was promoted to be over the guard of King David

  695. okay, so that's our verses for the day

  696. there's a couple things I want you to see in here

  697. the first is I want to talk just briefly about how it came to be

  698. that Vinaya fought the lion in the pit on the snowy day

  699. that's kind of a strange battle

  700. first of all if you got a lion in the pit

  701. you really don't have to fight him

  702. nobody really has to fight him, right?

  703. you can stand up at the top and throw spears at it until it's dead

  704. so nobody really has to go down in the pit and fight the lion

  705. that's not necessary

  706. so why does one fight the lion then, right?

  707. so first of all, you realize that Vinaya had prepared for just such a moment

  708. he had prepared and certain activities in his life had prepared him for that moment

  709. he had trained, he had trained with mighty men

  710. he had fought, he fought the Egyptian, he fought the two brothers

  711. or two warriors who were together, very powerful

  712. he had fought a lot and shown up with a name

  713. shown up with a capability, if you will

  714. he'd spent probably every single day training

  715. almost without exception

  716. sometimes I wonder to myself, and we don't really know this side of heaven

  717. but I wonder if it was the spear of the Egyptian that Vinaya took down in the pit to kill the snowy lion

  718. might have been

  719. the bottom line is he trained and practiced every day to be ready for that moment

  720. also he had surrounded himself with heroic people

  721. people who were also engaging in incredible activities similar to that which he wanted to be able to do

  722. so he was training with other powerful warriors

  723. he was engaging in the activities that powerful warriors engage in

  724. and so we can get from that example

  725. if we were going to ever arrive at a moment in our time where we're going to fight a lion in a pit on a snowy day

  726. then we need to have the right people around us

  727. we need to be engaged in the right activities

  728. and we need to be training for that moment in time

  729. now you're thinking to yourself, well I really don't want to fight a lion in a snowy pit anyway

  730. notice also that there was a decisiveness or a seize the opportunity about Vinaya

  731. he said, hey, here's a lion caught in a pit on a snowy day

  732. hmm, wonder what I could do with that

  733. wonder how I could use that

  734. there is considerable risk here

  735. but he responded with courage and I would say even faith

  736. he had seized the opportunity in the past, fought the Egyptian, fought the brothers, done other things of heroic nature

  737. he realized that when he had seized the opportunity in the past

  738. it had benefited him

  739. he'd come out good

  740. he was getting promotions, he was getting recognized, he was standing out of the crowd

  741. there were lots of mighty men

  742. of the 30, he was on the rise to become one of the most known

  743. he had not yet been called as the leader of David's guard

  744. but he would love to do that

  745. the king, that God would say that he would be the king

  746. and that he and his descendants would reign on the throne of Israel forever

  747. who wouldn't want to be the king, the leader of the royal guard of the God's king

  748. who wouldn't want to do that

  749. that would be awesome

  750. and that yet had not happened

  751. but in the past he had seized in major moments of triumph

  752. he had past victories

  753. and he realized that his past victories and his past seizing of the moment

  754. his past courage and faith meant something in that moment

  755. now a lion is a noble beast

  756. a recognized warrior

  757. and so the fact that it is a lion is something significant

  758. the truth is, as I said, you and I would probably never fight a lion

  759. most of us will never even be in the same room as a lion

  760. you might see one in the circus or something

  761. unless you get a career, a trainer, something, probably not

  762. go to the zoo, right?

  763. there's no lion, no physical actual real lion going to come to your house

  764. be in your yard or in this room

  765. it's not likely to happen

  766. Baniah trusted God with the possibility of perceived failure

  767. he could have failed

  768. he could have went into the pit that day

  769. and that lion could have killed him

  770. and the truth is, it was a somewhat theoretically unnecessary fight, wasn't it?

  771. the lion's down in the pit, you can kill him from up above

  772. you don't have to go down and fight the lion

  773. so this is Baniah decisively, courageously seizing on an opportunity

  774. that he believes God has given him to do something

  775. and he trusted God with the possibility of his perceived failure

  776. Christians are to do the same thing

  777. the Bible says, Paul writes to Timothy

  778. that God is able to bring to completion that thing which he's begun in you

  779. and so each day, each time you face a trial or a difficulty

  780. it's the same kind of thing

  781. is God going to make me succeed?

  782. well what if he doesn't?

  783. what if it doesn't work out?

  784. what if you don't get the promotion?

  785. what if you don't get the health boost?

  786. what if you don't solve the relationship difficulty or come to the bottom of the problem?

  787. is that the end?

  788. it's the young and the unwise that think that every problem that is in any way, shape or unsolved is the end of life

  789. it's just not

  790. the end of life is the only thing that's the end of life

  791. I remember when there was a girl who came over to my house and I was in high school

  792. and I thought she was kind of cute

  793. and my girlfriend that I was dating at the time

  794. had been very aloof, very standoffish or whatever

  795. and I thought, well this other girl clearly likes me

  796. and the girl that I'm dating

  797. not really into me all that much at the moment

  798. and so I called her on the phone and I broke up with her

  799. so that I could pursue the possibility of being with this other girl

  800. as soon as the other girl found out that I broke up with the first girl

  801. she left and I'm like, ah, crud

  802. why did I do that? that was really dumb

  803. I gave up the first relationship for the risk of the second

  804. but the truth was, the first one wasn't any good anyway

  805. and that's how we're living all the time

  806. we're thinking like, oh, I lost, I failed

  807. now I'll never get by, I'll never be okay again

  808. and that's just not true, you have to be ready to risk failure

  809. if you never do anything that can end in failure

  810. you're just not really alive

  811. and there's a lot of people that are doing that

  812. every opportunity that they could possibly fail

  813. they run away from it and they avoid any risk of failure

  814. they avoid risking their money, their time, their other people's opinions of them, etc.

  815. notice that it came to that moment in time at which Vinaya had to decide

  816. either go down in the pit or not

  817. and at go time, Vinaya chose to go

  818. there were a lot of men around

  819. and many of them could have offered to go down and fight the lion

  820. or they could have just stood up at the top

  821. and nobody wanted to go down and fight him

  822. eventually they would have just stood up at the top probably

  823. and killed him from a distance

  824. but at that moment in time, Vinaya was ready to go

  825. when God wants to do something amazing in your life

  826. and you've got an opportunity

  827. you're going to need to be ready to go

  828. that's a problem because life is filled with a lot of distractions

  829. there are a lot of good things

  830. a lot of good things

  831. and you can fill your day every single day

  832. now the same good things that we're talking about

  833. a lot of people use to run from opportunities

  834. so you'll play 40-50 hours of video games in a week

  835. or you spend your time in the kitchen or painting or in the park or whatever

  836. you do all of these things and miss the opportunity that God gives you

  837. at the moment God says, will you do this?

  838. you're like, but I already have plans to do this

  839. and you can be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ

  840. and still find yourself in that place

  841. you can be saying, okay God

  842. whatever you tell me to do, I'm ready to do it

  843. and then God says, here's an opportunity

  844. God doesn't say go and share with this person specifically or whatever

  845. but you already know you're commanded to do that

  846. so here's an opportunity, God makes it obvious

  847. and you don't take it because you've already got plans

  848. there are so many distractions

  849. there are so many other things that Vinaya could have done on that day

  850. then there are inconveniences

  851. like he could have waited for a thaw

  852. in the snow, in the cold of the snow

  853. holding a spear is more challenging

  854. and a lion is perfectly equipped to fight in the snow

  855. they're not going to have any problem

  856. in fact lions struggle with overheating

  857. did you know that?

  858. one of the primary things that keeps a lion from being a long-term fighter and runner

  859. is they struggle with overheating

  860. they get tired, their exertion requires so much energy and so much overheating

  861. that on a cold day, a lion is actually probably more dangerous when it comes to fatigue

  862. and so he went down on the cold snowy day

  863. inconveniences were nothing to him

  864. perceived hazards, the lion itself, lions are dangerous

  865. did you know that a well-trained warrior with a spear probably will die to a lion nine times out of ten?

  866. they're fast and they're wary and they're intelligent

  867. and you probe the lion, you push forward with a spear

  868. and then all of a sudden he lunges

  869. they come so fast and get past that spear one time

  870. and even if you manage to spear them

  871. unless it's specifically a boar spear that has a cross piece

  872. the lion will slide down the spear

  873. and its claws will rip you open completely before you can blink

  874. even as you run it through with a spear

  875. you've got to hit it in the head or the heart

  876. the neck, the body's not going to do it

  877. the paws, no, none of that's going to stop the lion from coming

  878. and people have died many times

  879. one-on-one versus a lion

  880. since the beginning of history

  881. there's no reason

  882. no logic

  883. no thought process

  884. that takes him down in there

  885. except for he sees an opportunity

  886. and he realizes that distractions won't stop him

  887. inconveniences are not going to stop him

  888. perceived hazards are not going to stop him

  889. and he says by faith I will walk

  890. not by sight, I see this

  891. I will do what it is that God has prepared me to do

  892. here is my opportunity

  893. if you do anything other than following God

  894. you wind up taking your cues from something else

  895. CUE, taking your cues from something else

  896. and at best you wind up in the cue

  897. which means you wind up in line

  898. because the whole world is taking their cues from what they see

  899. what they feel, what they think, what they've been through

  900. what somebody asked them to do

  901. what somebody said to them, what they saw on TV

  902. what they read in a book, what they read in a magazine, etc.

  903. and you can become one of the most learned and intelligent individuals

  904. and take your cues from the knowledge that you have gathered

  905. and all that's going to happen is you're going to wind up standing in line

  906. behind people that are stronger, smarter, faster, more capable

  907. already thought of it

  908. back in the day I was working at Radio Shack

  909. 1990, circa 1990

  910. and we sold resistors and transformers

  911. and diodes and every kind of little electronic part

  912. you could build electronics from scratch back in the day

  913. now if you want to get that stuff at Radio Shack

  914. it's available in extremely limited supply

  915. you pretty much order it online, pick it up at the store

  916. or have it shipped to you

  917. you can probably buy most of it on Amazon or eBay

  918. but back then we were the only place in town

  919. we commanded the market for diodes and resistors

  920. and I had a guy come in and he said

  921. I'm trying to build a converter

  922. he said in fact the world knows now

  923. that the next rich person, the next millionaire

  924. is going to build a converter

  925. that you can plug into the cigarette lighter in your car

  926. and then plug an AC outlet

  927. like you would plug in your house, a cord

  928. into that cigarette lighter

  929. it does not exist

  930. in fact science says that you cannot convert

  931. DC electricity to AC electricity

  932. now, has anyone ever seen one of those things?

  933. most people have them now, right?

  934. because you can, by certain science, convert

  935. now the way they do it is you have to

  936. create a device that alternates the current

  937. it switches the positive and the negative back and forth

  938. then takes the 12 volt and steps it up to a higher level

  939. and that's what they built, right?

  940. this guy comes in and he says

  941. everybody's saying if you can just build that

  942. you'll be the next millionaire

  943. and a millionaire was a big thing back in that day

  944. now I'd say probably a billionaire

  945. and he said, so I'm trying to build one

  946. and I know other guys who are trying to build one

  947. and I thought, well that's the first I ever heard of it

  948. so later that day I had another guy come in

  949. one guy after another

  950. after another, after another

  951. came in to buy the necessary diodes

  952. resistors and whatever that they needed

  953. to build this thing

  954. this transformer from DC to AC power

  955. and I'm thinking to myself the whole time

  956. they're probably going to fail

  957. they're probably not going to build it

  958. science says you can't make it

  959. then you probably can't make it, right?

  960. that's what I'm thinking to myself

  961. and they just kept coming in

  962. and they're buying all the same parts

  963. my boss is now buying these certain resistors

  964. and he's buying cases of them to keep them in stock

  965. because everybody and their brothers trying to buy the electronics

  966. to build the DC to AC transformer

  967. and that's several weeks

  968. and then at the end, at the rush ended

  969. and it came out in the

  970. magazines and stuff, peer review

  971. that somebody had already built the transformer

  972. DC to AC and already applied for the patent

  973. and we had a box of resistors of the right kind

  974. unfortunately they're not very expensive

  975. sitting in the back room at Radio Shack

  976. and when I left there a year and a half later

  977. that box of resistors was still sitting there

  978. what I'm saying to you, it doesn't matter how smart you are

  979. it doesn't matter how capable you are

  980. if you get your cues from what you see in the world

  981. or what you think is going on

  982. if you don't have some kind of other worldly knowledge

  983. some kind of spiritual awareness

  984. then all you're going to do is wind up

  985. waiting in line behind everybody else

  986. and that is not what you're called to

  987. you are called to walk

  988. your life and deal with your problems

  989. deal with the things that you're facing on a daily basis

  990. you are

  991. 100% equal with every

  992. other human being, not because you have the same

  993. skin color, same financial background

  994. same problems you've dealt with, same capabilities

  995. skills, training, education, whatever

  996. that's not why you're equal

  997. you're equal because you're unique

  998. right? One equals one

  999. if it's a different one it's still one

1000. if you compare apples to oranges, an apple is a

1001. completely different thing from an orange

1002. but if you have one apple, one orange, you have one

1003. so well how many you got? One

1004. I have one whole apple and I have one whole orange

1005. an orange and an apple are not the same thing

  1006. but I've got one

1007. and that's what you are, you're one

1008. and people are less than one

1009. when they start running away from their problems and start

1010. taking their cues from the things of the world

1011. instead of what God created them to be

1012. well Baniah was not going to do that

1013. it came to be go time and he was ready to go

1014. he crossed the line of distractions

  1015. inconveniences, perceived hazards

1016. he walked by faith, not by sight

1017. and he said I'm going to do this

  1018. now I know a lion

1019. not a thing that we're going to encounter

1020. and so fighting a lion

1021. seems like an unnecessary skill these days, doesn't it?

1022. except, you know who else is characterized as a lion?

  1023. interesting

1024. in your Bibles if you're following along

1025. we're going to go to the book of Luke chapter 10

    Luke 10 chapter mention

1026. we talked about Luke a little bit on Tuesday

1027. because somebody listed it as their favorite book

1028. the week before and then we challenged ourselves

1029. and so somebody listed it as their favorite book

1030. and then we challenged somebody else to read the entire book

1031. and then they gave us a little snippet

1032. this past Tuesday that was an activity we did over the last two weeks

1033. and it was kind of enjoyable

1034. now in Luke chapter 10 Jesus is

    Luke 10 chapter mention

1035. God the flesh walking on the earth

1036. and he's teaching the disciples about God

1037. and there's a certain moment in time

1038. in the earlier part of Luke chapter 10

    Luke 10 chapter mention

1039. where Jesus sent out 70 of his disciples

1040. to combat evil spirits and demons

1041. and they were seen healing people

  1042. and doing various things

1043. and every time they would

1044. cast out a demon or an evil spirit

1045. their situation would be made better

1046. and usually it was in health

1047. then we get to verse, let's see

  1048. we'll start in 17

1049. and so in 10, 17 it says

1050. and the 70 returned with joy saying

1051. Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name

  1052. verse 18 says

1053. and he said to them

1054. I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning

1055. behold, I have given you authority to tread upon

1056. serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy

1057. and nothing shall injure you

1058. and so while a lion is not mentioned here

1059. you could see going down in a pit against a scorpion

1060. or a serpent would be equally bad

1061. maybe not quite equally bad but definitely very bad

1062. and then it says all the power of the enemy is listed

1063. and so then if you look at 1 Peter chapter 5

    1 Peter 5 chapter mention

1064. you can follow my logic here I think pretty easily

  1065. 1 Peter chapter 5

    1 Peter 5 chapter mention

1066. and we're going to read in verses 8 and 9

  1067. so 1 Peter chapter 5 and verses 8 and 9

    1 Peter 5 chapter mention

  1068. and it says

  1069. be of sober spirit

1070. that means be in control of yourself

  1071. practice self control

  1072. beyond the alert

  1073. that means pay attention

1074. understand what's going on around you

  1075. your adversary

1076. that's the one who is against you

  1077. the devil

  1078. that's Satan

1079. the one who God will ultimately cast into hell forever

  1080. prowls about

1081. that means he's sneaking around the edges

  1082. like ready to ambush

  1083. like a roaring lion

  1084. that means he's scary

  1085. seeking someone to devour

1086. so now we have an imagery where the power of the enemy

1087. is being depicted exactly like a lion

1088. so ultimately I submit to you

1089. while the idea of fighting an actual lion

  1090. may not be valuable

1091. we need to realize that it's entirely possible

1092. that we may be fighting a lion on a daily basis

1093. now notice that it does not say

  1094. run!

  1095. run! you're in trouble!

1096. it says practice self control

1097. submit yourself to what you know to be right in the Lord

  1098. practice self control

1099. be sober minded, let's take this seriously

1100. be alert and pay attention

1101. because there is an enemy

1102. and he is seeking to devour you

1103. now he's not physically seeking to devour you

  1104. to my knowledge

1105. I'm not sure if it's true or not

1106. I guess it could be true in some way

1107. but to my knowledge the devil does not eat people

  1108. he's not a cannibal

  1109. that wouldn't be a cannibal anyway

1110. because technically he's kind of more like an angel

1111. but he doesn't eat people as far as we know

1112. but he certainly wants to bring your soul

1113. down to the pits of hell with him

  1114. that is his goal

1115. in fact he's not really even after you at all

1116. he really wants to hurt God

  1117. now the truth is

  1118. with a little effort

1119. you could avoid all conflicts with lions and pits on snowy days

1120. it wouldn't take that much

1121. all you got to do is go back and reverse the things that Baniah did

1122. don't win any spiritual battles

1123. in fact don't spend your time

  1124. with Christians

1125. and don't fight in the spiritual realm

1126. where the enemy is really proficient

1127. if you can just avoid those things

1128. then the truth is you'll never face Satan

1129. or any of his tactics head on

1130. he'll be prowling around the outside

1131. and you'll be living your life avoiding any real trouble

  1132. in the spiritual realm

1133. and you'll not have to face him

1134. but what kind of person will you be

1135. if you never win a spiritual battle

  1136. you'll be tempted

1137. and you'll be giving in to temptation

1138. you'll be living according to the way the world lives

1139. taking your cues from what you know, what you think, what others have done

1140. what they say, their example from your parents

1141. and most young people grow up and don't want to be like their parents

1142. while in Christian homes a lot of times young people grow up and go

1143. I see my dad made certain mistakes

1144. I don't want to be like his mistakes but I do want to be like his fate

1145. but a lot of times that isn't the case

1146. men who claim to be followers of the Lord Jesus Christ

1147. but don't practice to be ready to fight spiritual battles

1148. their kids grow up and they want to be like them

1149. and then they are unprepared for the spiritual battles that they face

1150. so there is some variety there

1151. the bottom line is if you don't want to face the enemy

1152. one on one down in a pit on a snowy day

1153. then don't win any spiritual battles

1154. don't spend your time with Christians

1155. or at least not in the active fellowship of called out believers that is the church

1156. and don't train with the sword of the spirit which is the word of God

1157. and by all means not jump into spiritual warfare or dabble in the spiritual

1158. where the devil, the lion stalks his favorite prey

1159. it's pretty easy to avoid that kind of trouble then

1160. but if Baniah set any example for us

1161. and if Jesus set any example for us

1162. and the disciples set any example for us

1163. then I don't think you really do want to avoid that trouble

1164. what you really want to do is be ready for it when it comes

1165. please consider that this lion has no desire to rip you apart

1166. he actually wants to hurt God

1167. and that desire means that if you do not once and for all overcome him

1168. and Jesus has done that for us

1169. then while you may escape the pit in this lifetime

1170. you will spend eternity in the pit with the lion

1171. and no weapons to protect yourself in the next one

1172. that's the order of events as they unfold

1173. when it says he is seeking to devour

1174. it means he wants to bring you down with him

1175. by the way that is how a lion fights

1176. he grabs you with one paw, he grabs you with the other

1177. and then if you've ever seen a cat fight

1178. falls on the ground and rakes you with his hind legs

  1179. that's how a lion fights

1180. now if you can just bite your head off in one fall swoop he'll do that

1181. but most often they lead with their paw

1182. just in case the enemy has some defenses

1183. so they step up and that paw is mighty enough to literally pull your shoulder off

1184. in a half strength swing

1185. just go grab your shoulder blade and just rip it right off your body

1186. while you're still standing there

1187. that's the kind of power a lion has

1188. and that's the kind of power this picture the enemy has

1189. for those who will not stand against the enemy

  1190. take your stand

1191. please consider that this lion has no desire to rip you apart

1192. rather he really wants to hurt God

1193. and his desire to hurt God means

1194. that if you do not once and for all overcome him

1195. and Jesus has already done that for us

1196. and trusting in him will get that done

1197. but if you do not do that in this lifetime

1198. then you will eventually face him

1199. or maybe you think you can run your whole life

1200. you'll just keep running away from the fact that

1201. God has already pronounced judgment on his chief enemy

  1202. which is Satan

1203. and all of his enemies which are the demons and evil spirits

1204. and all of his enemies who are humans

1205. the Bible says that you were dead in your trespasses and sins

1206. but it also says you were subject to wrath

1207. we were subject to wrath

  1208. objects of wrath

1209. which means we opposed God

1210. when you don't believe in Jesus we don't trust

1211. Jesus said I did not come to condemn the world

1212. but rather you're condemned already by what you do with the son of God

  1213. why?

1214. because there has to be a moment in time

1215. when you wrestle with the truth

1216. and if you will not wrestle with the truth

1217. and come to grips with reality

1218. and you will instead take your cues from everything you've learned

1219. and everything you've seen in the world

1220. then you'll always wind up standing in line

1221. how many people are standing in line right now

1222. and ultimately will plummet into hell for an eternity

1223. and they're standing in line waiting for their ship to come in

1224. they're standing in line waiting for things to go better

1225. standing in line waiting for somebody to tell them what they need to know

1226. standing in line waiting for somebody else to defeat their enemy

1227. to give them that easy path to glory

1228. a side job that can make a million dollars today

  1229. whatever they are

  1230. everybody's waiting for something

1231. and then those people who are waiting

1232. they get to panicking because it isn't working out

1233. and then they wind up under the control of the enemy

1234. and now you've got people who will vote a certain way

  1235. act a certain way

  1236. live a certain way

  1237. talk a certain way

  1238. whatever

1239. because somebody else is telling them

1240. that it's really urgent or important that they do that

1241. don't take your cues from the world

1242. take your cues from God

1243. don't stand in line for destruction

1244. rather stand in line for the opportunity that God has given you

  1245. whatever that is

1246. and when it comes, be ready

1247. be ready to fight in the spiritual realm

1248. do spend your time with Christians

  1249. do prep yourself

1250. do be more like Jesus each day

1251. engaging in the activities that Jesus gave us to engage into

1252. so that we will be more like Him

1253. do get involved with training

1254. do spend time with the church

  1255. do seize opportunities

1256. and then as each opportunity is seized

1257. and you see how God has glorified success or failure

1258. use those things to launch yourself on new opportunities

1259. and keep building on what you have learned

  1260. past victories mean something

1261. they mean that God has been at work

1262. when we got to that moment in time, Sheri and I did

1263. where we were going to lose everything

1264. both houses going into foreclosure

1265. the one we couldn't sell in Ohio

1266. the one we couldn't live in anymore in Michigan

  1267. both going into foreclosure

1268. she called me on the phone right before that

1269. and she said, I'm losing my job

1270. we're going to lose everything

1271. and in that moment I could have said anything

1272. and almost anything I could have said

1273. 80% of what I might have said might have ruined my marriage

1274. it might have been the end of our relationship

1275. we might have never been together in the way that we were

  1276. in Christ ever again

1277. but God lead me to say this

1278. He said, all that matters is, we'll be together

1279. now I wouldn't have said that normally

1280. all that matters is, we'll be together

1281. I might have said, we'll figure something out

1282. listen, when you're faced with an opportunity

1283. to stand down in a pit on a snowy day, don't you ever say

  1284. we'll figure something out

1285. God doesn't want you to figure something out

1286. God wants you to seize the opportunity

1287. to act the way He created you in Christ

1288. to do what it is that He's leading you to do

  1289. go on go

  1290. God says, 1, 2, 3, go

  1291. you go on go

  1292. God says, jump

1293. you don't say how high, you just jump

1294. God will determine how high

1295. the difference is, you're walking by faith not by sight

1296. so you give, you serve

1297. you worship, you show up

1298. you do the work of the Lord to

1299. combat the enemy every day

  1300. I read a story

  1301. so long ago I couldn't remember

  1302. where I read it at and I couldn't

1303. quote the person, this is not meant to be plagiarism

1304. or anything like that, it was a story about a dog

  1305. a man got a dog

1306. a fighting dog, and he thought, well I'm gonna

1307. get this dog for my kids

1308. well you know how well that goes, right, once a dog's been a fighting dog

1309. it's hard to get a dog to ever be calm

1310. with your kids after that, because frankly

1311. kids are mean, and when a kid's mean to the dog

1312. the dog's gonna respond like he would to another dog

1313. who's mean to him, so he got a fighting dog

1314. and he thought he was gonna, well he couldn't keep with his kids

1315. and so they wound up when the kids were playing

1316. in the house and stuff, a lot of times they wound up having to keep

1317. the dog in a cage

1318. so that their dog and the kids

  1319. wouldn't have a problem

1320. and all the dog tried to do all the time

1321. was a fighting dog, he was just always trying to get out of the cage

1322. and on at the cage, where the fighting dog

1323. is pretty big, and so fighting dog

1324. got out of the cage

  1325. while they were gone

1326. big dog got out of the cage

1327. only to find out he was in a cage

1328. now what do I mean by that?

  1329. still in the house

1330. still in the house, right

1331. so then he starts fighting to get out of the house

1332. he's fight chewing up the door

1333. busting it, finally, finally he managed

1334. to bust a window out, or I think he pushed an air conditioner

1335. out the window, pushed the air

1336. conditioner out the window and got out of the house

1337. only to find out he was still

1338. in a cage, what do I mean by that?

1339. he was in the yard, the yard was fenced in

1340. he couldn't get out of the yard, so he spent all

1341. day, all afternoon trying to

1342. dig, and he dug under the neighbors

1343. he dug, I found a soft spot, he dug

1344. under the fence, into the neighbors

1345. yard, only to find out

1346. he was still in a cage, because

1347. the neighbor had a fence too

1348. you see, this is what we do, we go

1349. from one problem to the next

1350. and all we want to do is solve it the way the world

1351. solves a problem, and all you do is wind up in another

  1352. cage, hear me now

1353. your life can be one of two things

1354. it can be moving forward

1355. serving God, seizing the moment

1356. to kill the beast, and take on

1357. the opportunities and things that God has given you

1358. to do, and the way that God would have you to do them

1359. and how do you do that? You spend your time with Christians

1360. you learn the way God would have you learn, you sharpen your

1361. sword of the spirit, which is the word of God

1362. it means you learn what the word says, and you're prepared to use it

1363. and if you would really do this the way

1364. it was meant to be, if Satan himself

1365. which is unlikely to ever happen, but if Satan himself

1366. came up to you, you would be ready

1367. with the word of God to rebuke him just the way Jesus

1368. did. Jesus did not rebuke

1369. Satan as the son of God, God in the

1370. flesh, he rebuked him as a man

1371. who knew what God says

1372. why? Because he was setting

1373. an example for us to rebuke Satan

1374. the same way. Satan if he ever

1375. came in person, and every evil spirit you ever deal

1376. with, and every problem you ever arrive at, you ought

1377. to have a word for that moment in time

1378. and you get that by perfecting your use

1379. of the sword of the spirit which is the word of God

  1380. the point is

1381. if you will think of it this way

1382. there are two roads, two choices

1383. that you can make. You can be ready

1384. to go down to the pit on a snowy day

1385. if that's what it takes to seize

1386. the opportunity and do what it is that God has for you

1387. you can do that, and you learn to do that

1388. by those things that I'm talking about

1389. or you can say, no, we just

1390. kill it from a distance

1391. take the easy road, not do

1392. it God's way, not walk by faith

1393. but take the easy road

1394. running, and the easy road

1395. running away from the problem

1396. see a lion in a snowy pit, he's going up

1397. somebody else will take care of it

1398. I don't have to overcome inconvenience today

1399. I don't have to overcome distractions today

1400. somebody else will take care of it

1401. I'm so sick and tired of Christians

1402. saying somebody else will take care of it

1403. what if you are the only person

  1404. in this room

1405. now, I will tell you I believe in Jesus

1406. I love Jesus, I'm following the Lord, I hope I'm going to heaven

1407. I'm trying to live for the Lord every day

  1408. but I could be

1409. somehow some kind of eloquent speaker

1410. and the truth is, I could be going to hell

1411. but even if I am, this is the

1412. word of God, and you better figure out

1413. what it means and apply it in your life

1414. and be ready to go down in a pit on a snowy day

1415. because if I'm not ready to go down in a pit on a snowy day

1416. you still have to be ready

1417. to go down in a pit on a snowy day if that's what the Lord

1418. has you do. What if you're the

1419. only person in the room who is for sure

1420. walking into glory? You're just going to

1421. let the rest of us go to hell?

  1422. Seriously?

  1423. If I'm not saved, I'm waiting

1424. to be saved for sure

1425. I want to be saved, I want to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ

1426. and there are other people in this room, young people and

1427. adults, people you know in your life, family members

1428. people that you work with, people you go to

1429. school with, that need to know about

1430. the truth that Jesus Christ died on

1431. the cross for sins and your sins can

1432. be paid for and there is a once and

1433. for all final victory in Jesus

1434. and that as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, He

1435. teaches us how to live so that we

1436. are ready to go down in a pit on a snowy

1437. day if that's what God calls us to

1438. Now if you arrive at a pit on a snowy day

1439. and there's a lion down there and God says don't go down there

1440. that lion will kill you, then you'd be an idiot to jump

1441. in the pit and fight the lion because you're going to die

1442. even though God told you not to

1443. God's not telling you to waste your life

1444. He's telling you to live your life

1445. The greatest tragedy would be that you arrive at the end of your

1446. life, fall into the grips of Satan for eternity

1447. not that he's going to rule over hell, he's going to be suffering

1448. just the same as we are, but he gets

1449. to take us with him into hell

  1450. never having lived

  1451. What a waste

  1452. Don't do it, instead

1453. prepare yourself for those moments

1454. and opportunities, it starts with accepting

1455. Jesus Christ as Lord, that means He tells

1456. you what to do when you do it

  1457. It starts with believing

1458. in the salvation that He provided

1459. having victory over the enemy who

1460. would bring you down, whatever that is, your own sin, your own

1461. temptation, the world's system, evil spirits, demons

1462. Satan, whatever who is trying to bring you down today

1463. having victory over that in Christ

1464. that's where it starts at

1465. the old you is now dead

1466. He can go to hell

  1467. and He would have

1468. but now He's been reborn, transformed

1469. made new, and it's you, and you're walking

1470. for Christ now, put the rest of it

1471. behind you and say, okay, God sends me into a

1472. pit on a snowy day versus a lion, I'm going

  1473. and realize that lion

  1474. is in your life

1475. and so you're either in a cage

  1476. with Him, or

  1477. you're free

1478. and if you're not free in Jesus Christ

1479. then you're in a cage with that lion

  1480. right now

1481. accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior

1482. and say, okay, God, I'm ready at go time

  1483. but the truth is

1484. for the big thing that God has for you

1485. down the road, a year from now, five years from now

1486. ten years from now if you're still here

1487. for that moment in time, your particular

1488. down in a pit on a snowy day

  1489. with a lion, you're not ready

1490. right now, as you sit here right now

1491. you're not ready, now Jesus is

1492. and so if you went in that situation, you could be

1493. Jesus could come as the fourth man in the furnace

1494. and He can say, okay, I gave you ten years to get

1495. rid of this day, it's not happening

1496. you didn't do it, ten years, you could have studied

1497. every day, you could have served every day, you could have

1498. gave every day, you didn't do it, but I'm here with you

1499. now, we're going to get through it, it's going to be fine

1500. and that's what He promises, that's the minimum

1501. but what He desires for you

1502. is that when you get to that moment in time of ten years

1503. He's there with you, and you and

1504. Him are rejoicing through the moment

  1505. see, this lion, He's a pussycat

  1506. He can't touch me

1507. greater is He that is in you

1508. than He that is in the world, means

1509. that when you arrive at the moment where you truly

1510. have to fight, the devil

1511. if you would, or evil spirits or temptations

1512. or whatever it is, when you have to fight in that moment

1513. you run roughshod right over

1514. top of it, we're acting

1515. like we're subject to temptation

1516. like anybody else, you're not, you've got

1517. the Holy Spirit in you, conviction, God's Word

  1518. spiritual gifts, you're thirsty

  1519. for chocolate, sing praises

1520. it literally has the same effect

1521. science will tell you, it has eating

1522. chocolate, singing praises to God

1523. check the endorphins in your brain, literally

  1524. the same effect

1525. but most of us don't want to sing at all

1526. in worship with other Christians, on the

1527. road, we were, Ariana and I got

1528. in the van, we were going to the YMCA

  1529. to practice basketball

  1530. and the truth is

1531. the last couple of weeks

1532. I've had some pretty vicious

  1533. days

1534. days where one thing after another came against me

1535. and I was trying, I was just

1536. taking them on with Jesus, I'm like, Jesus

1537. we got this, we're going to do this, we've got this, we're not going to quit

  1538. and I'm keeping a harrowing

  1539. schedule as it is

1540. we're driving to basketball, and I thought

1541. I'm going to put on Turbulent

1542. Skies by Lauren Daigle, because when I did my Sabbath

1543. two songs, Turbulent Skies and These

1544. Are The Days, it means, Turbulent Skies

1545. means you're going to go through some rough stuff, but it's going to be okay because

1546. he's going to be with you, that's what the message to that song is

1547. and the other song was, These Are The Days

1548. means even if you're going through rough stuff, these are the days

1549. that God has promised, something amazing, something

1550. incredible, God is doing something

1551. so I'm going to put on Turbulent Skies by Lauren Daigle

  1552. push the button

  1553. on my phone

  1554. and Alexa says

1555. Amazon Music is currently streaming on another

1556. device, would you like to stream

1557. Amazon Music on this device instead?

1558. Well Sherry's driving back from Columbus

1559. so clearly she's listening to Amazon

1560. Music, and so I said no

1561. I'm not going to take Sherry's Amazon Music away

1562. not anytime under the sun would I ever do that

1563. Amazon Music might be next to nothing, not even be a big

1564. deal to you or to anybody else, and it might not have been a big

1565. deal if I had taken it away from her, she could have listened to something

1566. else, but no way, I'm taking anything away

1567. from my wife at any time if I can help it

1568. and so I said no, and Ariana said

1569. what'd you say no for?

1570. and I said well because mom must be listening

1571. to Amazon Music right now and I'm not going to take that away from her

1572. and she said, oh, that's

  1573. nice

1574. the rest of the way to the YMCA we started picking out

  1575. praise songs

1576. I Will Call Upon the Lord

  1577. Sanctuary

1578. I only know like three

1579. I've been a Christian for 30 years and I only know like three

1580. almost, and I only know like three praise songs

1581. so we started picking out praise songs and singing them

1582. and you know, as I look back

1583. at my week this week, even in victories and talking

1584. to other Christians and cool things going on

  1585. that moment, that drive

1586. it feels a little bit

1587. like down in a pit

1588. with a lion on a snowy day

  1589. and those praise songs

1590. feel like a little bit like

  1591. that spear

1592. that belonged to that Egyptian

  1593. when we got to

  1594. basketball and practice and

  1595. we got some dinner

  1596. it was good

  1597. are you good?

1598. are you better than okay?

  1599. are you facing something?

1600. maybe this is your pit

  1601. on a snowy day

1602. and maybe you're not ready because

1603. the last several years you were supposed to get ready

1604. well don't worry, Jesus is not going to

1605. abandon you, he's going to get you through it

1606. but learn something from it when he gets you through it

1607. and go, okay, I probably should

  1608. be

1609. practicing my sword of the spirit

1610. which is the word of God, I probably

1611. should be active in my disciplines, I should

1612. be hanging out with Christians instead of the other things

1613. that I'm doing, I should be serving in the church

1614. when I have a couple hours of my schedule in the middle

1615. of the week, I should be praising God

1616. or studying or praying or reaching out to

1617. somebody in the church and saying how can I help, what can I do

1618. who can I serve, I should be going out, I should be

1619. Caitlyn paying for the people

1620. food behind me at McDonald's assuming I have

1621. enough money to do so, I should be doing that

  1622. and when she says

1623. can I give you a hug, I should be saying yes

1624. because she clearly needs a hug

  1625. you see?

  1626. you can't do this

1627. you can't keep living like Christians

1628. who go, we're just going to stab it in the pit

1629. and when it's out of the pit

  1630. we're going to run

  1631. no

1632. you need to live like a Christian who's preparing, who's fighting in the spiritual realms

1633. making a difference for the people

1634. around you and winning the day

  1635. it's go time

  1636. ready to go?

1637. I'm going to ask the praise team to come forward

1638. and read our, sorry, sing our

1639. final song today and as we sing

1640. this song I'm asking you, if you're here today

1641. and you're not in your earnest, if that's the least price of your Lord

1642. and Savior, then all you gotta do

1643. right now, you should be doing it right now

1644. do I need to do this?

1645. am I supposed to turn my light?

1646. and you'll hear God saying, that's you

1647. you'll feel that little tug

1648. you may not recognize your voice very well

1649. because you might not have a lot of experience with it, but if you're here

1650. and you're doing that, you just listen, you'll feel it

1651. I need to earnestly give my life

1652. over to the Lord right now

1653. and if you've already done that

1654. and you realize that you've not been prepared for this fight

1655. you've been maybe running away from your problems

  1656. or you've been

1657. trying to stab it down in the pit rather than

1658. taking on where God says, walk by faith

1659. not by sight, and taking these things on by faith

  1660. then you repent today

1661. and you turn your life over to the Lord

1662. you commit yourself to do the things that God

1663. has given you to do, to be the kind of person that

1664. God has made you to be

1665. and anything else is less

  1666. anything else is less

1667. so as we sing this song

1668. you respond to the Lord's leading tune, you come forward

1669. and you say, Pastor Dan, I gave my life

1670. to the Lord today, or, Pastor Dan, I

1671. recommitted my life to the Lord today, I'm gonna live the way God

1672. comparing me to whatever it is

  1673. maybe you're here today

1674. and you say I need to be baptized, or you need to join the church

1675. or I need to be

1676. a local church near me that I can be part of

1677. a fellowship with real Christians, and people really want to serve the Lord

  1678. ordinary people

  1679. screw ups

1680. serve in Jesus and made powerful

  1681. because, not because

1682. power or anything, but because Jesus

  1683. is Jesus

1684. that's the kind of church we are

1685. reaching, we like Jesus, and no matter where we're at

1686. we're gonna be one more step

1687. so as we sing this song, you respond to the Lord's leading tune

1688. you do that, and you let us know what's on your heart today

1689. great, would you stand with me and sing

1690. the song coming up on the screen
