  1. I used to have a doctor and I really liked her.

  2. She was pretty good actually.

  3. She was kind of into treating the whole person rather than getting a shot or getting drugs

  4. every time you go in or being prescribed a medicine.

  5. And so she would help me figure out like was I vitamin deficient or did I was I not getting

  6. enough sleep wasn't I getting you know those kinds of things.

  7. And I really enjoyed that about her one time I was I was living in Perishburg at the time

  8. and I went to go see her I made an appointment.

  9. The appointment was for one o'clock right after lunch.

  10. It's a good time to make doctor's appointments actually because a lot of times the whole

  11. staff's coming right back from lunch and it's you're the first appointment you have to

  12. wait.

  13. And I got there and surprisingly enough they had changed their schedule or they just had

  14. skipped lunch or because they were so far behind or whatever.

  15. And she said the doctor will see you shortly and I sat down in the waiting room and I waited.

  16. Now if you know me at all before I got saved I'll just make this clear before I got saved

  17. I had very little patience and after I got saved I've been blessed by the fruit of patience

  18. from the Holy Spirit but I don't have a lot of patience.

  19. That's the that's the reality of it.

  20. And I sat there and after about a half an hour or so I started thinking I've been waiting

  21. too long and I got up and I went up to the nurse or office manager whoever she was sitting

  22. at the desk and I said I've been here about a half an hour.

  23. I said you said she's seen me in a few minutes and I'm still sitting here and she said yeah

  24. we're running really behind.

  25. But we we worked right through lunch or some of the people worked right through lunch or

  26. something whatever she said and she said but we'll get to you shortly.

  27. And I went back and I sat down.

  28. Now this is in the day before smartphones so I didn't whip out my smartphone and start

  29. you know surfing the Internet or the time might have passed more quickly or whatever

  30. and I didn't check my emails I just sat there and waited.

  31. In fact I had brought my paper Bible with me and I was scanning through the Bible and

  32. yet it got to be about an hour after my appointment and I heard somebody go up to the counter

  33. and ask and say I've been waiting here for an hour and a half since my appointment time

  34. and I'm still waiting.

  35. And I thought to myself if I've already been waiting an hour this person's already been

  36. waiting an hour and a half so they're ahead of me for sure.

  37. And I thought man I just I just don't have time for this and I was actually taking time

  38. out of my workday to do this appointment.

  39. And so about five minutes later I just gave up and I left I left the doctor's office and

  40. I thought well I'll make an appointment another day.

  41. Well when I left the doctor's office guess how many of the problems that I went to go

  42. see the doctor about were solved.

  43. None.

  44. I went because I was pretty sure I had an ear infection and and my doctor would be pretty

  45. good to check my ears and say okay yeah you do have an ear infection she gives you a little

  46. she was one of the doctors that give you a poke in the butt antibiotics 24 hours you

  47. feel like a new man right.

  48. And so that's why I went to the doctor and so I wound up two days later having to go

  49. to urgent care because my doctor's appointment did not solve my problem at all.

  50. So I want you to bear that thought in mind then as I say to you that concerning Jesus

  51. appointments are available today.

  52. All right.

  53. Grab your Bibles if you would maybe give me a little who to holler amen whatever you feel

  54. like as we go to Luke chapter 24.

    Luke 24 chapter mention

  55. Praise God.

  56. So this is a relatively long text but it's in story form so there's not a lot to explain

  57. as we go by.

  58. Okay.

  59. I'll try if there's anything I see anything to kind of break it down and describe it to

  60. you on the way by.

  61. So this is Luke 24 beginning of verse one it says but on the first day of the week at

  62. early dawn they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.

  63. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb and when they entered they did not find

  64. the body of the Lord Jesus and it happened that while they were perplexed about this behold

  65. two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling apparel and as the women were terrified and

  66. bowed their faces to the ground the men said to them why do you seek the living among the

  67. dead?

  68. He is not here but he has risen.

  69. Remember how he spoke to you while he was still in Galilee saying that the Son of Man

  70. must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and the third day rise

  71. again?

  72. So these ladies had heard the teaching of Jesus that this exact set of events was going

  73. to transpire so that they were terrified for the loss of Jesus for the loss of his body

  74. but now these two men dressed in sparkling clothing which is sort of a biblical formula

  75. for angels maybe are saying he told you this was going to happen now we're in verse eight

  76. and they remembered his words and returned from the tomb and reported all these things

  77. to the eleven and to all the rest.

  78. Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James also other women

  79. with them were telling these things to the apostles so they all got together and they

  80. went and witnessed to the apostles.

  81. It says in verse eleven and these words appeared to them as nonsense and they would not believe

  82. them.

  83. So the apostles thought what the women were telling was just ridiculous that can't be

  84. right something is totally wrong and they didn't just flat out believe even though they

  85. too had heard the teaching of Jesus that this is going to go exactly the way it's going.

  86. Verse twelve says but Peter arose and ran to the tomb stooping and looking in he saw

  87. the linen wrappings only and he went away to his home marveling at that which had happened.

  88. I'm going to stop there for a second I want you to hone in on the word marveling.

  89. So here is the debate that goes on here is the debate that people question was Peter

  90. beginning to believe in this moment or was he doubting?

  91. I think you know Thomas gets a lot of like bad rap because they call him doubting Thomas

  92. and he doubted the risen Savior Jesus that he wasn't there the first appearing and so

  93. he thought oh I don't know if this could be true but I submit to you that all of the disciples

  94. are full of doubt.

  95. You can kind of see that in the story where Jesus calms the storm like wow you have little

  96. faith right.

  97. So all of them are sort of full of doubt but I submit to you it's a doubt a little more

  98. like maybe like my own marveling and wondering at how awesome Jesus is and what Jesus does

  99. and how amazing that is.

  100. So he goes away marveling I submit to you that something has happened and he knows that

  101. something has happened he's not 100% sure of what has happened okay and he's in wonder

  102. or excitement about what it is exactly that has happened and I'll clarify that a little

  103. more in the points later.

  104. The story goes on now this is the same day it says in verse 13 it says and behold two

  105. of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus which was about seven miles from

  106. Jerusalem.

  107. Now we do not have the historical location of Emmaus today that village is gone and there

  108. was a lot of strife in that area and it's been kind of erased geographically speaking

  109. but we know that it was about seven miles from Jerusalem and they were conversing with

  110. each other about all these things which had taken place.

  111. So they're walking down the road talking about the amazing events as you might talk about

  112. politics or strange occurrences in your day they were doing the same thing.

  113. It came about that while they were conversing and discussing Jesus himself approached and

  114. began traveling them with them but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him so they

  115. didn't get that this was Jesus even though he's come and begun to walk along with them

  116. verse 17 and he said to them what are these words that you are exchanging with one another

  117. as you are walking and they stood still looking sad and one of them named Cleopas answered

  118. and said to him are you the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which

  119. have happened there in these days and he said to them what things and he didn't say he

  120. was unaware he just says what things and they said to him the things about Jesus the Nazarene

  121. who was a prophet mighty indeed and word in the sight of God and all the people and how

  122. the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to the sentence of death and crucified

  123. him but we were hoping that it was he who was going to redeem Israel indeed besides

  124. all this it is the third day since these things happened but also some women among us amazed

  125. us when they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body they came

  126. saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive and some

  127. of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also

  128. had said but him they did not see okay now to be clear this tells you exactly where in

  129. the stories the story these two men left right it tells you that right after those previous

  130. events they left and they don't they don't have more information than what they're relating

  131. verse 25 and he said to them oh foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the

  132. prophets have spoken was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and

  133. to enter into his glory and beginning with Moses and with all the prophets he explained

  134. to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures so basically this is Jesus

  135. remember he begins to start at Genesis 1 he talks about the fall he talks about the curse

  136. he talks about Noah and how Noah was it was a messianic figure and and protected he and

  137. his family to sustain all of mankind he talks about all that that the David did all the

  138. things that happened during David's day and the promises that were made to David then

  139. he goes he talks about everything that happened with Moses he talks about everything happened

  140. during the day of judges and how they kept spiraling further and further down into sin

  141. after they would repent after God would send a man or in certain cases a woman to call

  142. them back to goodness and they were still spiraling into sin and he continues he goes

  143. through all the prophets and all the prophets and I don't know that he gets every verse

  144. but he shows them clearly how it's all laid out in the Bible and it's all speaking about

  145. him and what would happen except they don't know it's him because their eyes have still

  146. been blocked and they approached the village this is verse 28 and they approached the village

  147. where they were going and he acted as though he would go further so to them it looked like

  148. he was going to go on he didn't say it was going to but he to them it looked like he

  149. was going to keep on traveling and they urged him saying stay with us for it's getting toward

  150. evening and the day is now nearly over and he went in to stay with them and it came about

  151. that when he had reclined at the table with them he took the bread and blessed it and

  152. breaking it he began giving it to them and their eyes were opened and they recognized

  153. him and he vanished from their sight so they were sitting there having dinner and they

  154. go oh this is Jesus that we've been walking with oh this is Jesus that has been teaching

  155. us all about Jesus and suddenly he's gone and they said to one another were not our

  156. hearts burning within us while he was speaking to us on the road while he was explaining

  157. the scriptures to us they started to realize didn't we get a recognition wasn't there

  158. something when he was walking with us on the road even though we couldn't see it was him

  159. wasn't there something happening inside us now it all makes sense they say verse 33 and

  160. they arose that very hour and returned to Jerusalem and found gathered together the

  161. eleven and those who were with him saying the Lord has really risen and has appeared

  162. to Simon and they began to relate their experiences on the road and how he was recognized by them

  163. in the breaking of bread and while they were still telling these things he himself stood

  164. in their midst but they were startled and frightened and thought they were seeing a

  165. spirit and he said to them why are you troubled why do you doubts arise in your hearts see

  166. my hands and my feet that it is I myself touch me and see for a spirit does not have flesh

  167. and bones as you see that I have and when he had said this he showed them his hands

  168. and his feet and while they still could not believe it for joy so now they're trying

  169. to believe but they're so amazed it's so exciting it's so incredible what has happened

  170. they're troubled to believe it for joy and they were marveling he said to them have you

  171. anything here to eat and they gave him a piece of broiled fish and he took it and ate it

  172. before them now he said to them these are my words which I spoke to you while I was

  173. still with you that all things which are written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets

  174. and the Psalms must be fulfilled then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures and

  175. he said to them thus it is written that the Christ should suffer and rise again from the

  176. dead the third day and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in

  177. his name to all the nations beginning from Jerusalem you are witnesses of these things

  178. and behold I am sending forth the promise of my father upon you but you are to stay

  179. in the city until you are clothed with power from on high these are the encounters most

  180. of them anyway with Jesus that occurred on the day that he came back to life I submit

  181. to you that as the disciples marveled as Peter wondered and got excited about what might have

  182. happened there were a few possibilities so first let us examine a few of the possibilities

  183. the first that we'll examine is that someone unknown something unknown the body was stolen

  184. something that they are not even sure about yet that they've never even heard about yet

  185. or whatever has occurred when we know if something that we don't know about has occurred will

  186. it be when evidence appears because they have an empty tomb so they think well could be

  187. something that we're not expecting could be something that no one has told us about something

  188. that has not been made clear I submit to you this is a place that the church sometimes

  189. goes we get wrapped up in doing things that God didn't ordain he didn't prophecy didn't

  190. say anything about that we've got a the largest church claims to be Christian in the world

  191. that has all kinds of traditions that the Bible's never Bible never taught we've got

  192. cults all over the world that believe in things that men taught them to do that have nothing

  193. to do with Jesus and this is a place we think it could be something that God has not told

  194. us was going to happen now Peter would want to go no it can't be that that doesn't make

  195. sense it could be something different so Jesus it could be that Jesus is absent from the

  196. tomb in fact this has been confirmed by various witnesses but now the Jewish guards are already

  197. lying about the fact that the body was stolen and so there is enough room to doubt enough

  198. room to wonder about how the body is absent and in any case could the body be absent because

  199. Jesus has now gone home they believed with certainty that he was from the father they

  200. believe with certainty that he was a prophet or what we would call today on the other side

  201. of the cross a saint right they believed with certainty that he would go to heaven when

  202. he died but did Jesus die and was buried and was resurrected into God's eternal kingdom

  203. and so he's no longer on the earth but the ladies say no they say Jesus is alive but

  204. we're having trouble believing what the ladies say now Peter himself encounters Jesus and

  205. he begins to say no he's alive but there's still no certainty because they don't understand

  206. what's going to happen next and then these two men come and they say we've been taught

  207. everything from the beginning of scriptures as we walk that seven mile journey he broke

  208. it all down for us and then we realized it was him and the truth becomes evident for

  209. the first time ever what's true about the empty tomb what's true about the rock rolled

  210. away what's true about men and dazzling clothes that proclaim the risen Savior it's true he

  211. is alive the truth is revealed he is the Son of God the implications are greater than simply

  212. he is no longer in the tomb he could have gone to heaven they are greater than simply

  213. he said this would happen and they did he is the ancient of days born into the present

  214. day what are the ramifications of this they go farther than we'll all go to heaven when

  215. we die if this is the risen Savior if Jesus is like this then there is a ramification

  216. of this which is discovered by the men as they walk the road and sit with him at dinner

  217. there is a ramification of this that goes far beyond anything that is taught in scripture

  218. because it is the culmination of everything that is taught in scripture Jesus said I did

  219. not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it what is Jesus's fulfillment of the law

  220. that's the question that's where they're left and they will take 40 days with Jesus to learn

  221. the fullness of it so of the things that they were thinking they began to realize that it

  222. is true that Jesus is resurrected the truth has been revealed that he is God incarnate

  223. and has come back to life this day as those men walked along the road and as Jesus walks

  224. with the 40 with the men for 40 days the promises are revealed and related to one another and

  225. make clear the ultimate truth that may make a man's heart burn if you'll stop and think

  226. about it I was on a mission trip to the UP some years ago and we were sleeping on our

  227. sleeping bags in a cafeteria no air mattresses if I did that today I'd probably get up with

  228. a crick in my back slept in the hospital floor overnight one night when Sherri was having

  229. a baby boy that would hurt for days and I was quite a bit younger then but I was sleeping

  230. on the floor in a cafeteria and we had done a devotional before we went to bed and there

  231. was a young man who was sleeping across from me on his sleeping bag and he got out his

  232. Bible and he began to look at it and as a youth director working with teenagers of like

  233. a youth getting out their Bible and looking at it without me suggesting it like I just

  234. saw a teenager actually reading his Bible without me suggesting it and that was such

  235. an encouragement and I said if I'm mad just if I could just ask you this question of what

  236. are you reading what do you what what interested you that get you started and he goes well

  237. I do try to do a devotional every night before to bed but I'll tell you what I was thinking

  238. about I was I got to thinking about Adam and Eve and I got to thinking about what they

  239. might have known or not known about what Jesus was going to do and we started to talk through

  240. the scriptures now I'm not Jesus I'm not like one gazillionth as knowledgeable as Jesus

  241. about what the scriptures say about Jesus but we began to work our way from the fall

  242. and Adam and Eve to Cain and Abel and Noah and we worked our way through the Bible that

  243. night we started at about midnight which was technically lights out but we had flashlights

  244. we finished about 430 in the morning in that church building in the UP and everybody is

  245. not now when we quit we said we're not done but as we studied the Bible with an eye toward

  246. Jesus understanding that everything that is written in this text from Genesis to Revelation

  247. is about God's redeeming love as displayed in Jesus Jesus is the embodiment of God he

  248. is what makes God clear and this word does the best it can as a written word inspired

  249. by God to make Jesus clear and as we studied the Bible till 430 in the morning in a quiet

  250. church building on a cold floor frankly in a hard floor in a sleeping bag with little

  251. flashlights I had one of those little AA flashlights that you know you can just see like two inches

  252. on the page my heart burned within me and I thought it was over and then the next morning

  253. we got up and we did our devotional with the bigger team mind you I'm on four hour

  254. sleep now if that and the Holy Spirit for lack of a better way of saying it showed Himself

  255. and we we got wrapped up in what we were reading and everybody literally like almost everybody

  256. in the room was crying and we were realizing how awesome God is the promises that have

  257. been revealed they may make a man's heart burn within him in recognition but I submit

  258. to you that the promises do not save this is heresy somewhere and someone ain't gonna

  259. like it I submit to you that the Word of God as you have it here Genesis for revelation

  260. does not save souls I'm gonna take it one step further before we're through and I'm

  261. gonna say that this Word of God as you're written does not change hearts that one hurts

  262. this Word of God as here written does not cleanse you from your sins it does not make

  263. you a better person taught by Jesus with the authority of God this Word of God is a whole

  264. other thing we come to this Word of God with our questions and the real danger is if you

  265. come to this Word of God with your questions and you seek out what you want to know you

  266. may find what you want to know and it may not have all that much to do with what God

  267. wants you to know here they those men what I understand those men walking down that road

  268. that day they may have had good chance Old Testament books memorized word for word from

  269. beginning to end they're Jewish men they don't have other books to read they've never

  270. seen a science fiction book they don't have social media or TV or anything they have zero

  271. other opportunities for mental expansion if you will and so they would study the word

  272. they would go to the synagogue and hear it read and they would memorize what was said

  273. when the when they're quote-unquote pastors they didn't have pastors obviously but when

  274. their preachers would preach or talkers would talk they would memorize what was said memorize

  275. it wrote verbatim word for word public speakers in that day would stand up and everything

  276. would rhyme for an hour not not written down but that's how they would speak and that's

  277. how people would enlarge themselves and so these men were walking down the the promises

  278. that Jesus was explaining to them as they didn't understand what was they already understood

  279. them they already had them memorized why was it so different what made it so different

  280. when he explained it why did it burn in their hearts then and not at synagogue the previous

  281. week the understanding comes not from seeing alone but from being told or taught or coming

  282. to a logical conclusion none of those things get the job done do you understand that Jesus

  283. died on the cross for sins has someone told you that and you believed it I hope so but

  284. I submit to you that that understanding that thought itself does very little to change

  285. your state your sins are not forgiven because you know that Jesus died on the cross your

  286. sins are not forgiven because you believe it this hurts because you believe that Jesus

  287. died on the cross your sins are not forgiven because you believe that Jesus died on the

  288. cross to pay for your sins am I getting a little close to somebody's sensitive spot

  289. you know but wait I thought that's how I got my sins for him because I believed in Jesus

  290. and believed that he died on the cross and so now you're telling me that's not how my

  291. sins are forgiven no your sins are forgiven because Jesus is standing at the right hand

  292. of God making intercession for believers right now the sin you commit tomorrow will be forgiven

  293. not that you should do it on purpose but the sin you could commit tomorrow will be forgiven

  294. because Jesus is standing there right now making intercession you needed a savior like

  295. that you needed a sacrifice like that that was eternal that would never stop being that

  296. sacrifice never stop being that payment never stop being the one who petitions the father

  297. to forgive your sins and he does it incessantly what we would call 24 hours a day forever

  298. that's the kind of intervention that you needed that says something more than I believed in

  299. Jesus and got saved it says something more than I believe what the pastor said and I

  300. prayed a prayer those things when people use those things to say that's what Christianity

  301. is yeah I'm saved I don't have to involve the church I don't have to serve I don't

  302. have to give I don't have to do nothing I don't have to be with other believers I don't

  303. I haven't prayed in a week or three weeks or years I haven't prayed since I prayed to

  304. accept Jesus when people say those kinds of things it's clear that they never got an understanding

  305. of the thing that the disciples needed 40 days with Jesus to fully understand that the

  306. disciples on the road needed Jesus revealed to them at dinner to truly understand this

  307. gospel these promises this truth it all matters like it matters not because of what you know

  308. but who you know it's a darn good thing because if salvation was contained in knowledge someone

  309. could forget a whole generation could forget and then salvation would never be available

  310. anymore but salvation is not contained in knowledge it is not contained in teaching

  311. right now you are not listening to the sermon to get something out of it right now you are

  312. not listening to the sermon to know something that you didn't know before right now you

  313. are not listening to the sermon to grow as a Christian ouch you are listening to this

  314. sermon with the intention of having an appointment a meeting with the risen Savior if you can't

  315. meet with Jesus while I'm preaching you're not going to get the thing that God wants

  316. you to get today understanding is not from seeing alone it's not from being told or taught

  317. or coming to a logical conclusion the effect of this unveiled truth becomes real at the

  318. revelation of Jesus alone that's when they get it he explained it all the way there and

  319. they didn't get it and he was going to go on and they said no stay with us and then

  320. over fellowship over bread at prayer he was revealed and they began to realize that everything

  321. that he had said had spoken about him I submit to you they may even have realized that everything

  322. that he had said had spoken about Jesus and still did not realize it was him don't you

  323. understand you could study your Bible every waking moment and walk into a room with Jesus

  324. and not know he's there you could memorize whole books of the Bible and walk into a room

  325. with the risen Savior Jesus himself and just think he's some other guy might be a good

  326. teacher a good explainer a good preacher might have a bold delivery you may go back I think

  327. I might want to hear that guy again listen to me hearing that guy again will not save

  328. the truth that they were revealing it was not about what they knew but who they knew

  329. because Jesus was the embodiment of God he is resurrected he is available to us and to

  330. all people that was the point that he was making that's not about right place right

  331. time and it's a darn good thing because if it was a right place right time you could

  332. be born in the wrong country never hear about Jesus and spend eternity in hell because you

  333. were born with a sinful nature and you would sin you were born with a yearning nature and

  334. you might seek for Jesus but if finding Jesus was about right place right time then you

  335. might never find him and then never finding him you would spend eternity in hell it's

  336. not luck it's not a chance it's not even a choice ouch so was it but I chose to follow

  337. Jesus choosing to follow Jesus maybe the smartest thing you could ever do in this life it can

  338. have a rough ending I'll warn you you say well I choose to follow Jesus so did Judas

  339. before you say all the disciples chose to follow Jesus all good so did Judas he followed

  340. Jesus everywhere he went choosing to follow Jesus will not save you to those who chose

  341. to follow him and already believe John 8 he said come come follow me stop there but we

  342. don't because the verse isn't out there and then you will know the truth and the truth

  343. is Jesus and then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free John 14 right

  344. I am the way the truth and the life come follow me and then you will know the truth and the

  345. truth will set you free you want to be a Gnostic that's your choice but it won't get you to

  346. heaven you want to think you're okay because you're better off than somebody else that's

  347. your choice but it won't get you to heaven now that it will not provide you with an abundant

  348. life you want to think you're better than the rest of the world because you came to

  349. church today and they didn't fine you can do that that's your choice but it won't get

  350. you to heaven you want to divide your attention between Jesus and the things of this world

  351. have one foot in all the things of the world entertained on your phone on tablet on TV

  352. playing sports exercise what all the things is what it might be whatever is good for you

  353. build your body etc and have one foot in the kingdom seeking Jesus you can do that but

  354. it won't get you to heaven because what will happen is you'll be sitting in the room with

  355. Jesus while you're on your phone you'll be sitting in the room with Jesus while you're

  356. thinking about your hobbies and be sitting in the room with Jesus you'll be at the appointment

  357. Jesus will be there and you'll be too busy to interact with him and then you'll arrive

  358. at the end of the road and he'll say get away from me I never knew you as a young couple

  359. Sherry and I had to learn that when you go on date night you got to stop answering the

  360. phone and you got to put your phone away when you sit down at the table and it hurts your

  361. butt you don't set it on the table in front of you so you can see if it rings you put

  362. it away and that's just the representative just an idea and understanding of the way

  363. we treat Jesus like yeah Jesus come on take care of my sin yeah Jesus come on take care

  364. of me yeah just provide for me right take care of my family heal everybody make everybody

  365. strong let's be bold let's advance the kingdom yeah sounds good Jesus excuse me I'm busy

  366. I got to do this over here right now Jesus can't find time to read the Bible can't find

  367. time to spend time with you can't find time to try to draw close to you nope can't do

  368. it it's about his choice he revealed his identity by fellowship with those men they sat down

  369. in fellowship with him and when they did lo and behold they knew him they walked the road

  370. with a with a teacher was able to teach them how everything through the Old Testament pointed

  371. to Jesus and still didn't get that it was Jesus and then when they fellowshiped with

  372. him when they marked out time with him when they focused on him when they made it him

  373. and him alone he was revealed to them and only then did they say wow you know it didn't

  374. our hearts burn with us while we were walking on the road the truth that is revealed and

  375. understand that Jesus is revect resurrected is he is available to you today he's able

  376. to forgive sins he's able to make intervention once for always and always ongoing he's able

  377. to do that he is available to you he is willing to do so he didn't go to the cross cuz he

  378. had to he went to the cross for the joy that was set before him subjecting himself to death

  379. even death on a cross he's willing and he is revealed in fellowship with him when you

  380. spend time with him when you come to church when you sit in your prayer closet when you

  381. get away from all distractions and practice silence and solitude when you read in your

  382. Bible it needs to be about fellowship with Jesus it needs to be about who you're with

  383. and who is in you even who is in charge you read the Bible all right guy has guy he was

  384. cool oh you made some mistakes I don't want to make the mistakes he made that's got nothing

  385. to do with it it's all about how you and Jesus are gonna walk forward after experiencing

  386. the text about Hezekiah that's what it's all about you read Isaiah oh man he was a man

  387. of sorrows he really suffered for me I owe him gratitude I should I should really submit

  388. to him I should really do what he tells me to do so for that reason alone I'm not gonna

  389. learn a lot of things that what he tells me to do because he's gonna be telling me to

  390. do a lot of stuff and then I'm gonna have to do it and then my whole life it's like

  391. Jesus will just take over my whole life I'll be some kind of Jesus freak or Bible thumper

  392. or something he'll take over my whole life if I let him yep he will and it'll be the

  393. best life you could ever have he came not to steal your life but to give you an abundant

  394. life beyond that which you can currently imagine because why because your fellowship with him

  395. has been limited if you're here today and you have not met the risen Savior you are

  396. not saved now I don't mean stand in the room with him he's wearing three-piece suit or

  397. know that he's there and suddenly he's revealed I'm not talking about a miraculous one-on-one

  398. intervention in that sense but spiritually if your spirit has not come into contact with

  399. Jesus then you're not saved and you need that you have to desire a relationship with Jesus

  400. Jesus died on the cross to have a relationship with you he is resurrected he is available

  401. to you he is willing he is revealed in fellowship come to Jesus choose to spend time with Jesus

  402. and in his presence choose to spend time with Jesus and his and in his presence over all

  403. alternatives over anything else that seems good sounds good tastes good looks good feels

  404. good works good choose Jesus over that choose Jesus over your vehicle choose Jesus over

  405. your TV choose Jesus over your relationships choose Jesus at all times and then you too

  406. will be living out the thing that they figured out on the day why was Peter marvelling because

  407. it meant something more than Jesus came back to life and went to heaven it meant something

  408. more than the grave couldn't hold him those are all true things but they are only the part of the

  409. picture they're like the border not yet filled in your life is about a relationship with God

  410. through his son Jesus Christ now the interesting thing is that educated men may recognize the

  411. difference without themselves opting into the program so you could be here and you could say

  412. well I know quite a lot about Jesus or quite a lot about the Word of God or quite I've sat under

  413. quite a few sermons in my day and you could say I know enough you could hear the scriptures in your

  414. heart burns within you they said had before Jesus was revealed to them the scripture heart-burning

  415. right they said that they looked back on it said when we were walking on the road road was not our

  416. heart burning within us your heart could be burning within you right now as you realize Jesus is here

  417. Jesus desires that appointment with you today Jesus has blocked out the time to spend time with

  418. you today and your heart begins to burn to realize that's true so educated men men who understand

  419. the basic knowledge of it they can recognize what we're talking about without themselves opting into

  420. you could leave this place without saying okay Jesus it's you and me forever you could leave

  421. this place and leave Jesus behind here if that's what you choose to do he came for the meeting

  422. did you and John 6 beginning of verse 26 it says as follows Jesus answered them and said truly truly

  423. I say to you you seek me not because you saw signs but because you ate of the loaves and were filled

  424. do not work for the food which perishes but for the food which endures to eternal life with the

  425. Son of man shall which the Son of man shall give to you for on him the Father even God has set his

  426. seal they said therefore to him what shall we do that we may work the works of God and Jesus

  427. answered and said to them this is the work of God that you believe in him whom he said not a message

  428. about him not a verse about him but in him whom he has sent they said therefore to him what then do

  429. you do for a sign that we may see and believe you see they were kind of it was a breakdown they

  430. weren't quite getting it I would love to see Jesus do something awesome they were saying what work do

  431. you perform our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness as it is written he gave them bread

  432. out of heaven to eat Jesus therefore said to them truly truly I say to you it is not Moses who has

  433. given you the bread out of heaven but it is my father who gives you the true bread out of heaven

  434. but the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world you already

  435. know what he's saying if you just listen to his words you understand what he's saying they said

  436. therefore to him Lord evermore give us this bread and Jesus said to them I am the bread of life he

  437. who comes to me shall not hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst but I say to you that

  438. you have seen me and yet do not believe all the father gives me shall come to me and the one who

  439. comes to me I will certainly not cast out let me read that verse to you again just in case you

  440. didn't it could have been the title of the sermon right all that the father gives to me shall come

  441. to me and the one who comes to me I will certainly not cast out for I have come down from heaven not

  442. to do my own will but the will of him who sent me and this is the will of him who sent me that

  443. of all that he has given me I lose nothing anything about memorizing the Bible now not that you should

  444. you should why because in memorizing the Bible you will know Jesus better your appointments will

  445. Jesus with Jesus will be more rich your appointments with Jesus will be more real they will be more

  446. fulfilling right you should do that but did he say anything about that in this in this mathematical

  447. equation of how to get where he's trying to take us no he says and this is the will of him who sent

  448. me that all that he has given me of all that he has given me I lose nothing but raise it up on the

  449. last day for this is the will of my father that everyone who beholds and Tuesday we studied that

  450. word beholds what does it mean doesn't mean to look doesn't mean to see it means to look at to

  451. focus attention on to look toward to put yourself at that thing right so we're concerned about those

  452. who are concerned about looking at what at the word right at the preaching at the teaching at

  453. the service at the given at the work at the schedule at the announcements no none of it but

  454. this is the will of the father that everyone who beholds the son and believes in him may have eternal

  455. life and I myself will raise him up on the last day and I myself well you know who you're trusting

  456. in to get to heaven it's Jesus not I trusted in Jesus so I know I'm getting to heaven it's you

  457. trust in Jesus today you trust in Jesus tomorrow you trust in Jesus next week you trust in Jesus

  458. from now until you arrive in heaven and then he will make sure you get in that's the implications

  459. of Jesus is resurrected the truth is revealed that it's Jesus Jesus and only Jesus and acts for the

  460. disciples are traveling this is after Jesus has gone back to heaven and the Holy Spirit has been

  461. sent and an amazing miracle occurs and they're challenged about it and so on and we'll begin

  462. reading and verse 11 the disciples say acts 411 he is the stone which was rejected by you the

  463. builders but which became the very cornerstone so they're accusing them the Jewish leaders of

  464. being educated men who were in the presence of Jesus but did not recognize him did not realize

  465. who he was that he was God in the flesh and that he had everything they needed and they didn't get

  466. it from him but which became the very cornerstone and there is salvation in no one else but there is

  467. no for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved

  468. well that's plainly clear verse 13 now as they observe the confidence of Peter and John and

  469. understood that they were uneducated and untrained men they were modeling and began to recognize them

  470. as having been with Jesus you see the people in your life that you're dealing with ought to

  471. recognize you as having been with Jesus if you're uneducated or untrained that's irrelevant the

  472. question is have you sat with Jesus have you been with Jesus have you invested yourself and your

  473. time and your resources and your desires in Jesus if anything else takes that place then you are at

  474. best divided in your attentions and at worst you don't know him at all now as they observed the

  475. confidence of Peter and John it says and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men they

  476. were modeling they said whoa wait a minute and they began to recognize them as having been with

  477. Jesus that's what we need church we need to stop talking about daily devotional times and start

  478. talking about appointments with Jesus stop reading your Bible to see what it says and read your Bible

  479. to spend time with Jesus stop praying to list your concerns to God and pray to spend time with

  480. Jesus one more second Peter 3 and this is our last verses of the day second Peter 3 10 through 18

  481. second Peter 3 beginning verse 10 Peter writes Peter let me emphasize Peter writes Peter the

  482. guy who marveled Peter the guy who met Jesus Peter the guy who had what we are talking about today

  483. revealed to him that he is the Son of God and God in the flesh and that salvation is accomplished

  484. through him that he is resurrected he is available to you he is willing he is revealed in fellowship

  485. time spent with Jesus that's when Jesus is revealed coming to Jesus Peter wrote what we read now but

  486. the day of the Lord will come like a thief in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and

  487. the elements will be destroyed with intense heat and the earth and its works will be burned up since

  488. all these things are to be destroyed in this way what sort of people ought you to be in holy

  489. conduct and godliness looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God on account of which

  490. the heavens will be destroyed by burning in the elements will melt with intense heat but according

  491. to his promise we are looking for a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells

  492. therefore beloved since you look for these things be diligent to be found by him in peace spotless

  493. and blameless and regard the patience of our Lord to be salvation just as also our beloved

  494. brother Paul according to the wisdom given him wrote to you as also in all his letters speaking

  495. in them of these things in which are some things hard to understand which the untaught and unstable

  496. distort as they do also the rest of the scriptures to their own destruction you therefore beloved

  497. knowing this beforehand be on your guard blessed being carried away by the error of unprincipled

  498. men you fall from your steadfastness but grow in grace and knowledge listen to this this

  499. is this is it right here but grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus

  500. Christ to him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity amen so let it be he's

  501. resurrected he's available to you he is willing he is revealed in fellowship come to Jesus

  502. come come spend time with him and in his presence over all our turn over all alternatives you

  503. know our church a little bit you know at least enough about us to know that we're called new

  504. heights fellowship our key verse is we have fellowship part of it is we have fellowship

  505. with God the Father and his son Jesus Christ our motto is reaching new heights and it could

  506. have been very well could have been the day that we wrote it and God led us to it that

  507. it would have been reaching new heights that could have been the whole motto but it isn't

  508. because God spoke up and he said no it's reaching new heights in Jesus it's not what you know

  509. it's not what you figured out it's not what you've managed to apply not even if what you

  510. manage to apply is of the scripture and biblical it's not what you've learned or what you've

  511. studied or what you've experienced or what you stumbled upon that's not what the pastor

  512. said that really affected you or your teacher said that really affected you even though

  513. all of these things may might make your life better choosing to honor the Proverbs choosing

  514. to follow the Ten Commandments those things will make your life better you could have

  515. a better life by doing what it is that God wants you to do but salvation and being part

  516. of the kingdom of God is not like that even though all of those things might make your

  517. life better it's reaching new heights in Jesus it's not what you know but who you know someone

  518. will say what I know has done me no good another will say it has done me remarkable good what

  519. I know and both of them might be lost and going to hell someone will say what I know

  520. has done me no good and someone else will say what I know of the scripture of the teaching

  521. of wisdom Proverbs of common sense of whatever you want to call it what I know has done me

  522. remarkable good and both of those two and everyone in between that's concerned about

  523. what they know very well might be lost but someone else will say I know Jesus do I know

  524. everything about Jesus no but I know him I've met him I've experienced him I've spent time

  525. with him I practice the spiritual disciplines not to become more disciplined or at least

  526. not only to become more disciplined but to spend time with Jesus do you have time Jesus

  527. has appointments available do you have time do you have time to spend time with the risen

  528. Savior I submit to you if you don't have time and you can't make time if it can't be your

  529. highest priority to spend time with Jesus then you've missed the point that Jesus is

  530. resurrected he is the son of God he is the ancient of days born into this present day

  531. the ramification of those things are Jesus is now able to stand at the right hand of

  532. the father and make intercession for you forever only Jesus not goats or rams not money given

  533. or service rendered no sacrifices whatsoever could ever accomplish that but Jesus can he

  534. began to and he can and always can in a poetic sense I submit to you that he did that even

  535. before he was crucified before he was born that was his role they trusted God in the

  536. way they would make it always the God would God would say the way would be Jesus when

  537. you study your Bible I want you to think about Jesus is here with me Jesus is in me and what

  538. do Jesus and I think about this scripture what do Jesus and I think we should do what

  539. kind of people should we be because we know that eventually everything you have your cell

  540. phone your car your hobbies your favorite foods everything all of its going up in smoke

  541. it's all going to be burnt to nothingness including the stars that we look at and are

  542. so amazed by all burnt to nothingness and then recreated in a new heaven and a new earth

  543. in which you will have the perfect body and all of this depends on who you know will you

  544. spend time with the risen Savior when we come together as a church we come together to spend

  545. time we spend time with people who have spent time with Jesus so you have a responsibility

  546. to be that so when other people come to spend time with people who have spent time with

  547. Jesus that should be you and they should be able to go yeah you spent time with Jesus

  548. she spent time with Jesus and also we come together to spend time with Jesus and in our

  549. great blessing in our day by grace that we don't deserve God has indwelt this church

  550. this people are full of Jesus but don't be a person that's full of Jesus but never spends

  551. time moreover if you make an appointment and appointments are available make sure he is

  552. the focus of that appointment too often we come to him with all of our problems and instead

  553. of saying okay Jesus what do you want with me today who are we together who are you making

  554. me to be as a reborn person we're still worried about old stuff all that stuff was put away

  555. no more regrets and no more worries because Jesus is willing and I have a praise team

  556. to come forward at this time and lead us in our closing hymn this is the last song devices

  557. Everything is Everything and the song suddenly plays in my ears no, listen to this I have

  558. ever in my life you would listen to the song of Jesus or the music of this inspectors still

  559. be I continued on this this is thanks for watching we received a couple of divine resurrected

  560. creatures of may Abrams Zoo and I have been trying to update that Ichariahload in video

  561. two deflection a couple alla
