  1. I could rest you in your arms forever

  2. Cause I know nobody loves me better

  3. Hold on to me

  4. Hold on to me

  5. Hold on to me

  6. We pray for blessings

  7. We pray for peace

  8. Comfort for family

  9. Protection while we sleep

  10. The sermon title today is

  11. Inside Out and No Quit In Ya

  12. Inside Out and No Quit In Ya

  13. I know that's kind of slang and whatever

  14. But I'm hoping it helps us to remember a little bit

  15. We have been working through a series

  16. Of God's creation called

  17. Being a Fanatic

  18. And each week we've talked about

  19. What it takes to become a Fanatic

  20. And then as just a little bit of a snippet at the opening

  21. I've talked about why it is that you might want to become a Fanatic

  22. So I've just got to real quick go down the list

  23. Part one we talked about dying with Christ

  24. We talked about how we had died with Christ

  25. In fact the Bible says that

  26. Jesus died for all of us

  27. And if he died for all of us then all of us have died

  28. That's what the Bible says

  29. And we are now living beyond our own deaths

  30. If you've been saved

  31. Part two we talked about storing up treasures

  32. And how the treasure houses of our family

  33. Of the family of God, our treasure houses are in heaven

  34. And how we store up our treasures

  35. In heaven rather than on earth

  36. Part three we talked about

  37. Seeking first the Kingdom of God

  38. In particular as we talked about

  39. Seeking first the Kingdom of God

  40. We talked about seeking it

  41. In our relationships between us and other people

  42. In our person

  43. Inside us and then is the local church

  44. And we want to see the Kingdom of God come

  45. And I think that when it says in the Lord's Prayer

  46. We pray, thy Kingdom come

  47. That's what it's talking about

  48. We talked about worry and regret

  49. And we talked about the two greatest enemies

  50. In particular we talked about how God cares about us

  51. And he cares about this moment in time

  52. Right now, right here

  53. And what you do with it

  54. Matters to God

  55. Even though as we heard C.S. Lewis say

  56. Earlier

  57. God has no limit

  58. In the amount of time he can have

  59. But if he is present in every single time

  60. It makes sense that he is concerned about

  61. Every single moment in time because he is present there

  62. And that we would use it in a way

  63. That honors him not in worry

  64. Which means thinking about the things of the future

  65. Or in regret, thinking about the things of the past

  66. But living right now in the moment

  67. And then we talked about having an answer for everything

  68. Last week we talked about having an answer for everything

  69. And we essentially summed it up as

  70. That he is the answer for everything

  71. And our faith in him

  72. And scripture provides us

  73. With the right thing at the right time

  74. To deal with what we're facing

  75. And then today we're talking about

  76. Our insides out

  77. And no quit in you

  78. That's the title for today. We are not done

  79. There will be two more sermons in this series

  80. And I can tell you their titles now

  81. But I won't. You'll have to come or listen in

  82. To hear what they are, okay?

  83. And then after that point in time we will be transitioning

  84. Into kind of a new topic

  85. So that's where we're at

  86. I want to talk to you today about

  87. There's a little quote from C.S. Lewis

  88. There is one thing

  89. And only one thing

  90. Now get this, there is one thing and only one thing

  91. In the whole universe which we know more about

  92. Than we can learn

  93. From external observation

  94. And that one thing

  95. Is mankind

  96. We do not merely observe

  97. Men or women if you're a woman

  98. Rather

  99. We are men or women

  100. In this case

  101. We have so to speak

  102. Inside information

  103. You know what it is like to be a person

  104. You've been there, you've experienced it

  105. In fact you have a unique load of information

  106. About what it is like to be you

  107. And so we can say we are in the know

  108. I submit to you then

  109. Because we are in the know, we know

  110. As we've been looking at it for the last several weeks

  111. We know that we were

  112. Created to be like what we've been studying

  113. You can feel in your

  114. Inner most being a need to be

  115. A fanatic, a need to be

  116. About something, a need to be

  117. About purpose and focus

  118. One thing, and God

  119. Made us that way

  120. And as C.S. Lewis

  121. Being a theologian and a teacher

  122. And a famous author of children's stories

  123. And was on the radio

  124. In World War II explaining all the bases of Christianity

  125. All while the war was raging around them

  126. All of that was going on

  127. C.S. Lewis was making the statement

  128. That you kind of get this already

  129. Right? So I don't have to argue

  130. With you or try to convince you

  131. About becoming a fanatic

  132. Solomon said, and I'm very much paraphrasing

  133. But he said, this is the best way to go

  134. Just kind of put one foot in both worlds

  135. One in the kingdom of God and one in the kingdom of men

  136. Because there's a lot of good stuff in the kingdom of men

  137. All kinds of good things to entertain and be a part of

  138. And there's a lot of good stuff in the kingdom of God

  139. And all kinds of good things and an eternity awaiting

  140. Then later he said, oh no

  141. That was a horrible idea

  142. I was being ripped in two

  143. And I submit to you that most men lived their lives ripped in two

  144. Most people

  145. Are struggling with should I do this or should I do that

  146. Should I be like this or should I be like that

  147. And the reason is because we were

  148. Not created to have that

  149. Roaring debate going on all the time

  150. We were created to be going one way

  151. The way, the right way

  152. And going with all that we are

  153. But the world is so tempting

  154. And so full of other things

  155. Even things that will rear up and try to be gods themselves

  156. That we latch onto them

  157. As they're passing by

  158. If you

  159. Get the picture for a moment, a man on a skateboard

  160. He's going about 15 mile an hour

  161. Three times walking, max walking pace

  162. Going down the street and a car

  163. Goes by in the opposite direction

  164. Doing about 35 mile an hour

  165. Now he's thinking to himself

  166. I'm going about 15 mile an hour

  167. I'm doing pretty good, got a pretty good pace on

  168. But that car is going 35 mile an hour

  169. Now if I just reach out

  170. And latch onto that car with all

  171. My might

  172. I'll whip around and I'll be doing 35 mile an hour

  173. In that direction, it's not the direction I really want to go

  174. But I'll whip around and I'll do it

  175. And you know what the results of that are

  176. Right? So at the best you're going to crash

  177. And probably at the worst you're going to be

  178. Ripped apart, your arms are going to be ripped off

  179. Or whatever. One time I was driving

  180. Into Cedar Point and they had all

  181. These cones lined up and we were coming a little bit later

  182. And they didn't have cars lined up or anything

  183. And there was orange cones going by

  184. And I thought it would be the coolest thing to open the door

  185. And reach out and grab an orange cone

  186. We were driving by about 20 mile an hour

  187. I about broke my hand

  188. And I thought, if you're going to go one way

  189. And you should be going the other way

  190. The process of turning is

  191. A process, right?

  192. And we understand that, okay?

  193. If you say for example, like I know I should go to bed

  194. At a reasonable time every night

  195. And you say I'm going to start going to bed at a reasonable time

  196. I'm going to stop staying up late watching movies

  197. And reading books and playing games

  198. Where I'm going to go to bed at a reasonable time every night

  199. And if I want to do any of that kind of stuff

  200. I'll do it in the morning before school or before work

  201. Or when I have, and I'll be more energetic

  202. Than carrying that out and trying to do that

  203. That's another thing, right?

  204. Most of the time when you make a decision about how to change your life

  205. It just doesn't just click

  206. It's not just all of a sudden, I'm going to change this behavior

  207. And maybe if it does

  208. It goes for a while

  209. I remember years ago, Judy wanted to quit smoking so bad

  210. And she went and got hypnotized to quit smoking

  211. And she quit smoking for 60 days

  212. It lasted for 60 days after she got hypnotized

  213. And then one day

  214. She had a frustrating day and she picked up a cigarette

  215. From that moment on, she was smoking every day again

  216. And she was like, I've never smoked before

  217. And so she had that

  218. Moment in time where she made the decision

  219. She got the hypnotism and then for 60 days

  220. She was able to stop and then she was right back at it

  221. I submit to you, you've had all of these experiences

  222. You know what this is like

  223. You know what it's like to tame your doubts

  224. You know what it's like to struggle with your decisions

  225. You know what it's like to make a decision that you think will be good for yourself

  226. And be unable to carry it out

  227. The fact is, we are complex beings

  228. And we have first hand knowledge of this

  229. And some of the things I'm going to say to you

  230. They're going to go by kind of quickly

  231. But part of that reason is because you already have this experience

  232. You already know, as a human being

  233. You already know what I'm talking about

  234. Whether you're lost or saved

  235. I think saved people who have Christ, have wisdom, have the Holy Spirit

  236. They kind of can discern it a little bit

  237. And maybe see when it's one and when it's the other

  238. But everybody can feel it

  239. In Psalm 139

  240. The psalmist writes this

  241. He says in Psalm 139, 13

  242. For you formed by inward parts

  243. You wove me in my mother's womb

  244. So basically he's recognizing

  245. We have inward parts

  246. Notice it doesn't say inward part

  247. We have inward parts

  248. We have outward parts

  249. And we have inward parts

  250. If we didn't have outward parts, there would be no reason to distinguish that we have inward parts

  251. You have parts

  252. But he says, you wove me in my inward parts

  253. God did it, God authored you as a person

  254. And you can say

  255. Well, I went through this, I went through that

  256. All these things changed me

  257. I'm dealing with this lack of self-discipline

  258. Because of the experiences I had when I was a kid

  259. Yes, I get all of that

  260. In fact, the Bible says that God orchestrated

  261. All of those factors so that you might

  262. Search around for him, that's Acts 17

  263. And find him and realize he was never far away

  264. In the first place

  265. But the fact is, God wove your inner parts

  266. He made you while you were still in your mother's womb

  267. To be who you would be

  268. You have inward parts

  269. And God made them

  270. And then in 1 Samuel 16, 7 it says

  271. Now this is the story

  272. I'm going to give you the preface so you understand the story

  273. This is the story where David is being chosen as the next king

  274. And Samuel is coming to anoint the king

  275. And they bring all the brothers of David

  276. He's the smallest, probably least attractive

  277. Least masculine looking

  278. Least physical of all of them, he's young

  279. And they bring all of the older brothers

  280. Who are strong, some of them are handsome

  281. Some of them are kind of regal looking

  282. Look like they make good kings

  283. They bring all of them before Samuel

  284. And God says, nope, nope

  285. Nope, nope, nope

  286. Every single time he says, no that's not the one

  287. And finally David comes

  288. And then

  289. The Lord said to Samuel

  290. Do not judge from his appearance

  291. Or from his lofty stature

  292. Talking about whether he is able to look like a king

  293. Or not, because I have rejected him

  294. That's talking about the other brothers

  295. God does not see

  296. As a mortal who sees the appearance

  297. The Lord looks into the heart

  298. And then he goes on right after that

  299. To choose David

  300. The youngest, least regal, least strong

  301. Least attractive of all of the brothers

  302. Possibly

  303. He may have had some traits that were better than others

  304. The bottom line is

  305. God looks on that inward self

  306. Now you and I both know

  307. That the outer self

  308. While it has its troubles

  309. Is easier to change

  310. Than the inward self

  311. You get a diagnosis and the doctor says

  312. You can't eat that anymore, you can't live that way anymore

  313. Or you're going to die

  314. And you're like, I've got to change it now

  315. And you finally change it after years of trying to

  316. And it's changed, and it doesn't bounce back the other way

  317. Because your life is now at stake

  318. Or your pain goes away

  319. And you realize, hey, I had pain, now I don't have pain

  320. So changing that was the right thing to do

  321. And I'm not going to go back

  322. You were 40 pounds overweight, you worked out, you lost all the weight

  323. Now you're not going to go back to being the person before

  324. That you were

  325. It is easier to change the outward

  326. Than it is to change the inward

  327. And the inner part, he sees the interior

  328. The inward parts then include

  329. Your heart, while the outward appearance

  330. And inward heart condition

  331. Are two different things

  332. So even as you sit here today

  333. You may be coming across

  334. As a pretty good guy or a pretty good girl

  335. You may be, everyone's thinking

  336. Hey, they're in the right place, the right time, doing the right thing

  337. Look how respectful they're being

  338. Look how well they're handling themselves or whatever

  339. I'm so glad for that

  340. But God is not looking only at the outward appearance

  341. In fact, it says he judges

  342. By the inward, the heart

  343. Which then it's two different things

  344. Which is a problem

  345. Because the heart is not good

  346. Our heart is not good

  347. Jeremiah 17, 9-10

  348. Says, the heart is more deceitful

  349. Than all else and is

  350. Desperately wicked

  351. Or desperately sick

  352. Who can understand it?

  353. And then it goes on to say

  354. I the Lord search the heart

  355. I test the mind

  356. Even to give to each man according to his ways

  357. According to the results of his deeds

  358. So there's a couple things to see in there

  359. The first thing is that God, again

  360. Recognizes that your heart is messed up

  361. Or at least outside

  362. Christ is messed up, right? We'll get there in a minute

  363. The heart of man is messed up

  364. And we realize that if you're a Christian

  365. You remember what it was like when you were not

  366. I do, my heart all over the place

  367. One day this, one day that

  368. I want this, I'm going to get it no matter what it takes

  369. Now I really screwed up my life

  370. And I'm going to heal it no matter what it takes

  371. I'm going to go back the other way, I'm going to make everybody think I'm okay

  372. And so on and so on and so on

  373. Because our hearts were wicked

  374. Outside Christ, you can remember

  375. What that was like

  376. God says I search the heart

  377. I test the mind, so you've got two inward parts

  378. You've got the heart and the mind

  379. Those are both inside you

  380. Is your mind outside? You ever hear the old saying

  381. I give you a piece of my mind? What does that mean?

  382. What does it mean when somebody gives you a

  383. piece of their mind?

  384. Hannah, what does it mean?

  385. What would that mean?

  386. I'm going to give you a piece of my mind

  387. What does that mean?

  388. Have you ever heard that saying before?

  389. Yeah, had your mom ever said it?

  390. Put her on the spot

  391. Have you ever said that? Okay Holly, what does it mean?

  392. I'm going to give you a piece of my mind

  393. Yeah

  394. Yeah, so that you dress them down

  395. You yell at them, you tell them why they're wrong

  396. That's what it means to give a piece of your mind

  397. So that's an outward behavior, right?

  398. But your mind is not outward, it's inside

  399. That's what we understand

  400. Human condition, we understand these are inward parts

  401. Your mind, your heart, that's your inward parts

  402. Your actions, the things you do outside, those are your outward parts

  403. When you touch something

  404. With your hand, that is an outward action

  405. Your hand itself is an outward

  406. Action, this is the skin

  407. It's outside all of the other organs

  408. I feel it on the page

  409. The page is clearly outside me

  410. And the skin senses it outside me

  411. It is outside me as well, it is how I connect with the world

  412. My mouth, my actions, these are how I connect with the world

  413. And God is judging my heart

  414. And my mind, it says

  415. Testing my mind and judging my heart

  416. Even to give

  417. Each man according to his ways

  418. According to the results of his deeds

  419. So in other words, what you do

  420. You're going to get it back from God

  421. That's what he's saying

  422. Because he is searching your heart

  423. And testing your mind

  424. Remember, God formed our

  425. Inward parts

  426. He wove us in our womb

  427. You have inward parts, God made them

  428. But the world killed them

  429. Your inward parts

  430. You submitted

  431. Your inward parts

  432. To the world

  433. You submitted your inward parts

  434. To outward actions

  435. Had a little bit of

  436. Altercation

  437. Controversy between me and Ariana

  438. Yesterday, and then as I was explaining

  439. It to her, saying, you know, okay

  440. Our actions

  441. Govern our feelings

  442. Or our feelings

  443. Govern our actions

  444. That's the choice that people tend to make

  445. But notice that your feelings

  446. And your actions, that's

  447. Both pretty outward

  448. Your heart and your mind

  449. Govern your feelings, which then govern your actions

  450. Or your heart and your mind

  451. Govern your actions, which then govern your feelings

  452. People are so

  453. Surface

  454. Everyone's going around, he said to me, she said to me

  455. She behaved a certain way, he looked like

  456. It tasted like

  457. Everything is about the outside

  458. But God's not like that

  459. God's all about the inside

  460. Right?

  461. Some people in this room are wearing

  462. Sweatshirts, somebody in this room

  463. Is wearing a tie, I think I'm the only one

  464. Right?

  465. Neither is more appropriate for worship

  466. God is concerned about the inside

  467. Not the outside

  468. But don't kid yourself, those

  469. Outside actions, they say something about

  470. The inside

  471. You have inward parts, God made those inward parts

  472. But the world killed them

  473. You submitted those inward parts, your heart and your mind

  474. You submitted them to your actions

  475. Your actions are that which

  476. Flows out of a man

  477. Is that which makes a man unclean, Jesus said

  478. And also the wages of sin

  479. Is death, Paul wrote

  480. And so when you engage

  481. In sinful behavior

  482. You submit your insides

  483. Your heart and your mind

  484. To the effect of that sinful behavior

  485. And die, your inside dies

  486. You become separated from God

  487. Those inward parts that were created

  488. To have that perfect union with the Lord of the Universe

  489. To be one with God

  490. Are now separated by the choices

  491. That we have made

  492. Or the ignorance that we have allowed

  493. To persist

  494. That's why Peter writes

  495. This way, 1 Peter chapter 3 verses 3 and 4

    1 Peter 3:3

  496. He says, your adornment

  497. Does anybody know what that word means, adornment?

  498. It's like your dress or what's on your outside

  499. What you look like, right? Your jewelry

  500. Your dress, the hair, etc

  501. He said, your adornment

  502. Must not be merely external

  503. So in other words, you shouldn't

  504. Look like a certain thing, only on the outside

  505. It shouldn't be braiding the hair

  506. Wearing gold jewelry or putting on dresses

  507. But

  508. Let it be the hidden person

  509. Of the heart

  510. With the imperishable quality of a gentle

  511. And quiet spirit

  512. Which is precious in the sight of God

  513. In other words, you should

  514. Be walking around

  515. Looking like

  516. And hold on, because I submit you will

  517. Whether you like it or not, you should be walking around

  518. Looking like what's on the inside of you

  519. You find a young man who

  520. Looks good, acts good, talks good

  521. And you go, ah, I can have him

  522. I mean, he's alright, I can have him as a friend

  523. Or I can have him as a boyfriend, or I can have him as a husband

  524. Right?

  525. But then you get to know him a little bit

  526. And you find out the inside doesn't look like

  527. That at all, it's dirty, nasty, it's a problem

  528. It's offensive and possibly dangerous

  529. We're supposed to wear our

  530. Quiet, gentle spirit

  531. On the outside

  532. These things are precious in the sight of God

  533. You can wear all the jewelry

  534. Dress up all the fanciest, you can say all the right words

  535. You can do it all perfectly

  536. But God is looking on your heart

  537. And your mind

  538. And if you do it all perfectly and God looks at your heart and mind

  539. He's going to say, you're outside

  540. Don't look like you're inside

  541. I'm judging you not on your outsides

  542. But your insides

  543. In fact, your outsides are causing a break

  544. Between me and you

  545. This thing that I create in your insides

  546. I created that to be a perfect relationship with me

  547. But you're submitting it to your choice of actions

  548. On your outside

  549. And I can't be like that

  550. I will not walk with you

  551. I will not lie with you, I will not steal with you

  552. I will not cheat with you, I will not murder with you

  553. I will not lust with you

  554. And so you choose to do those things

  555. Outside me, away from me

  556. That's how death

  557. Enters in and we become objects

  558. Of wrath, dead in our trespasses

  559. And sin

  560. Rather Peter was saying, you can wear

  561. You can actually wear your heart condition

  562. You can choose to do so

  563. Any amount of good looks that are only

  564. External are sin

  565. Though possibly greatly desirable

  566. In the world, people think, oh he shows up on time

  567. Or he works hard, or he looks good

  568. Or he's got all these different ways that fit

  569. We're going to hire him, we're going to pay him, we're going to bless him

  570. They may even temporarily

  571. Yield wealth and great influence

  572. He always does what he says he'll do

  573. I can trust him

  574. And so then you come and you tell them

  575. What isn't true and they believe you

  576. Because as far as they know, you always do

  577. What you say you'll do

  578. But you can wear your actual heart condition

  579. And I submit to you that a lot of people do

  580. It's written this way

  581. To sum up, all of you be

  582. Harmonious, sympathetic

  583. Brotherly, kind hearted and humble

  584. In spirit, not returning

  585. Evil for evil or insult for insult

  586. But giving a blessing instead

  587. For you were called for the very purpose

  588. That you might inherit a blessing

  589. See, God has a better plan

  590. God's blessings are eternal

  591. And worth more than the world's

  592. Best rewards

  593. The problem is

  594. We bought into as

  595. Non-Christians and even as Christians sometimes

  596. We bought into this idea

  597. That we can get what we want

  598. We can make our insides feel better

  599. By taking the things of the world

  600. Let's be realistic

  601. Chocolate tastes good, produces

  602. Serotonin in your brain

  603. And you will feel better if you eat chocolate

  604. That's a reality

  605. Unless you don't like chocolate

  606. In which case your particular

  607. Thing might be something else

  608. It might be ice cream or pizza

  609. You have something that when you eat it

  610. Makes you feel better

  611. But feeling better is only surface

  612. It's not truly

  613. Affecting your heart and your mind

  614. It's temporary at best

  615. So you can wear your heart condition

  616. But you also can go after

  617. These other things that will

  618. Overcome your feeling bad

  619. About your heart condition

  620. They will make you feel better

  621. God has a better plan

  622. His blessings are eternal and worth more

  623. Than the world's best rewards

  624. There are a lot of people running around

  625. Even right now who are

  626. Putting their outside appearance

  627. Up pretty well

  628. They look pretty good on the outside

  629. It's been like that way for a long time

  630. All the way back to Adam and Eve

  631. Pretty much

  632. See Adam and Eve's insides were messed up

  633. And they knew it

  634. And they knew that as soon as they ran into God

  635. That he would know it

  636. And so they hid

  637. And that's what people are doing

  638. That looks a little bit like what God would want

  639. In Matthew 23

    Matthew 23:24

  640. Verses 24 and 28

  641. Jesus is speaking

  642. He says, you blind guides

  643. Restrain out a gnat and swallow a camel

  644. Woe to you

  645. Scribes and Pharisees

  646. Hypocrites

  647. For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish

  648. But inside they are full of robbery

  649. And self-indulgence

  650. You blind Pharisee

  651. First clean the inside of the cup and of the dish

  652. So that the outside of it may become clean also

  653. Woe to you

  654. Scribes and Pharisees

  655. Hypocrites

  656. For you are like white-washed tombs

  657. That means like white-painted with white paint

  658. Which on the outside appear beautiful

  659. But inside they are full of dead men's bones

  660. And all uncleanness

  661. So you too outwardly appear

  662. Righteous to men

  663. But inwardly you are full of hypocrisy

  664. And lawlessness

  665. Hear me now

  666. Nor will I ever call you to be a better person

  667. To look better to the world

  668. Would it be nice that we could look better to the world

  669. And everybody could think that we're honest

  670. And everybody could think that we're true

  671. And hardworking and giving and merciful

  672. And serving and all those kinds of things

  673. Would it be good so that then we could share the truth about Jesus?

  674. Well, sure, that would probably be a wonderful thing

  675. But if that becomes our motivations

  676. If our job is to be better on the outside

  677. Then we've totally missed what God has called us to

  678. You don't become a fanatic by being better

  679. In fact, there's an argument about Christianity in the early Christianity

  680. All of the disciples pretty much died for their faith, all of them

  681. They died because they believed that Jesus died and rose again

  682. And they were willing to die because they knew that if they died

  683. They too would rise again

  684. So then there's an argument that basically says

  685. That they wouldn't have died if they knew what they were dying for was a lie

  686. See, they saw Jesus alive again after his death

  687. At that point in time, what were they going to do?

  688. They saw him die, then they saw him alive again after his death

  689. So what were they going to do? Now you're going to kill me?

  690. So, no, I'm going to recant, I don't believe in Jesus

  691. No, you can't do that because they saw him dead, they saw him alive

  692. So there was no way to go back

  693. They were trapped going forward as fanatics

  694. They were crying out praises to God for him allowing them to suffer like Jesus suffered

  695. For him allowing them to die like Jesus died

  696. They were grateful for the suffering that they experienced

  697. Because they knew that Jesus, who experienced the same suffering

  698. Had come back to life in a divine form

  699. And so the argument goes like this

  700. It says that some men will die and some men will even die for a lie

  701. That's how it works in militant Muslim circles

  702. For example, they die for a lie

  703. But no men will die for a lie that they know to be a lie

  704. Why not just recant and survive? It's a lie

  705. And so that's the argument

  706. And here's what he's saying

  707. He's saying, these are men who lived a lie

  708. They were hypocrites, they cleaned the outside of the cup

  709. And I don't want to be, and I don't want you to be, a hypocrite

  710. I don't want you to clean the outside of the cup and go around looking good

  711. So that people will come to our church or serve in your ministry

  712. Or treat you with respect or pay you more money

  713. None of that matters at all

  714. Cleaning the outside of the cup for all of those purposes

  715. Leaves you where they were at

  716. It makes you a hypocrite

  717. And he says, whoa, and by the way, when God says, whoa to you, that's bad

  718. Whoa is bad

  719. And he says, whoa to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites

  720. Like whitewashed tombs, full of dead bodies, full of dead men's bones

  721. So you too outwardly appear righteous to men

  722. But inwardly you are filled full of hypocrisy and lawlessness

  723. That must not be us

  724. But again, we have a problem, don't we?

  725. We have a problem because our hearts are messed up

  726. They're wicked and nasty

  727. And they need repair

  728. Boy, you know, I bought a watch once

  729. And then after I bought the watch I was like, man, I can't figure out how to

  730. The battery went dead

  731. I'm like, I can't figure out how to get the battery changed

  732. And then I was out and about and I saw a jewelry store

  733. The jewelry store said they could change the battery

  734. I thought, well, I could just pop in there for a moment, get the battery changed

  735. And I thought about it, I'm like, I'm busy today and I won't do it

  736. I put it off a couple of times

  737. And then I thought, you know where I should take the watch back to get the battery changed?

  738. I should take it back to where I bought it

  739. And I went back there and I had a sign that says, if you buy a watch from us

  740. Your watch batteries are free for life

  741. So I had them change the watch battery

  742. I wore that watch for a long time after that

  743. I never put a second battery in it

  744. So had I, I could have got it for free

  745. But my point is this

  746. Who made your innermost parts?

  747. God did

  748. And when your innermost parts are messed up

  749. And they are because they've been submitted to your outward actions

  750. Who are you going to take them to to get them repaired?

  751. God! You go to God to get them repaired because he made them

  752. He wove them, it says

  753. From the beginning he created them

  754. You can wear an outside appearance in keeping with a heart condition

  755. Unlike your own, but it's not going to do you any good in eternity

  756. It's not going to do you any good in your relationship with God

  757. So, hint, don't do it

  758. Don't wear an outside appearance

  759. In other words, if you get all dressed up and go to a meeting and pretend to be honest

  760. And you might get the job

  761. First think about what's really inside you

  762. Is that who you are?

  763. Before you tell somebody, for example, before you begin like this way

  764. As young people are so fun

  765. Let me be honest or I'm going to be honest, right? Comma, like that

  766. We start that way, honestly, going to be honest, right?

  767. And that's the thing that people say comes from the internet

  768. It's proliferated conversation now

  769. If you go into court, by the way, you say that, you know what the opposing lawyer will say

  770. He'll say, so you say you're going to be honest, so what else are you lying about?

  771. Why do you need to say I'm going to be honest with you?

  772. Just be honest, right?

  773. So the point is, if you would say I'm going to be honest

  774. Then before you say I'm going to be honest, ask yourself, are you an honest person?

  775. Is your insides in line with that course of action?

  776. Are you just saying you're going to be honest this time?

  777. Because you're trying to convince the person that you're listening to

  778. That you mean what you say or maybe because you're hesitating to say what you're saying

  779. James writes over in James chapter 1 beginning in verse 19

    James 1 chapter mention

  780. This you know, my beloved brethren, for everyone must be quick to hear

  781. Slow to speak and slow to anger

  782. For the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God

  783. Before I go any further, I just want you to know that I have been a person

  784. And I have met many people over the years who have what I call a high sense of justice

  785. They want things to be right

  786. And when they're not right, they get angry and they get them fixed

  787. Except you know what the problem with that is, according to what we just read

  788. The anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God

  789. If you get angry and that gets it fixed, even though it is now right

  790. It is still not the righteousness of God

  791. Why do you think that is?

  792. Because that other person is responding in their outward self to your anger

  793. Rather than responding in their inward self

  794. They won't respond in their inward self because they're protecting their inward self from your anger

  795. So they're not going to change because you're misbehaving

  796. They might do what you asked them to do that time because you were mad

  797. But it's not going to bring about the righteousness of God

  798. That's what James says now on in verse 21

  799. Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all the remains of wickedness

  800. In humility, listen to this

  801. Putting aside all filthiness

  802. In humility, receive the word implanted which is able to save your souls

  803. So what is your action?

  804. What is your outward action that has the inward result of saving your inward parts?

  805. The answer is

  806. Receive the word implanted

  807. That's what you do

  808. You take the word of God and you allow it to affect you internally

  809. This is a problem because then when you read a verse that says thou shalt not bear false witness

  810. And you interpret it as you cannot lie

  811. And you become an honest person because you have an instruction not to lie

  812. Not to bear false witness

  813. You have done exactly the opposite of that which will affect your inward parts

  814. If you say I'm not going to steal because I know the Bible tells me I should not steal

  815. And you choose outwardly to never steal again

  816. And so you're never stealing

  817. Because you read a verse that says you should not steal

  818. And you mentally made a choice to follow the commands of the Lord

  819. That is not what the Bible said you were supposed to do

  820. Rather what you were supposed to do was take that word internally

  821. Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee, David wrote

  822. Take that word internally and apply it to the dark areas of your heart

  823. Apply it to the person that is in here

  824. And when you apply the word internally

  825. It is able to save, read, bring back to life into connection with God

  826. Your internal parts

  827. Receive the word implanted which is able to save your souls

  828. Then he says but prove yourself, test yourself

  829. Doers of the word and not merely hearers who delude themselves

  830. In other words if you just hear it and even if you just hear it and do

  831. For a while for example

  832. For if anyone is a hearer and not of the word and not a doer

  833. He is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror

  834. For once he's looked at himself and gone away

  835. He has immediately forgotten what kind of a person he was

  836. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty

  837. And abides by it, that means lives by it

  838. Not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer

  839. That man will be blessed in what he does

  840. The message is in there and the one has been preached so many times

  841. I've personally heard it and I've never exactly preached it

  842. But I've personally heard it preached multiple times

  843. It is if you listen to the word and actually carry it out

  844. You'll be blessed in what you do

  845. You heard that right? You heard that in there

  846. If you listen it and carry it out

  847. You will be blessed in what you do

  848. It's in there

  849. He said but one who looks and abides by it

  850. An effectual doer blessed in what he does

  851. That's one message

  852. But guess what that message is?

  853. If you on the outside, if you submit your outside to the word of God

  854. You'll be blessed in what you do

  855. Hence well, hence prosperity, trustworthiness, etc.

  856. Right?

  857. However, there is a second message in there, isn't there?

  858. The second message was

  859. Putting aside all filthiness in humility

  860. Receive the word implanted which is able to save your souls

  861. It's not good enough to get out of bed today and read

  862. Thou shalt not lie and not lie

  863. That's not good enough

  864. It really never was

  865. Because even while you were not lying

  866. You were doing something else wrong, right?

  867. You had a dirty flesh nature on the inside

  868. What is called the natural man

  869. And it was messed up and it was separate from God

  870. And so it's not good enough to start doing the right things

  871. After you've already done one thing wrong

  872. And it wasn't just one thing

  873. It was many things

  874. And then Jesus said it this way

  875. Beware of the false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing

  876. But inwardly are ravenous wolves

  877. In other words, their outsides are so much different from their insides

  878. You will know them by their fruits

  879. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?

  880. So every good tree bears good fruit

  881. In other words, the outside comes in line with the inside

  882. But the bad tree bears bad fruit

  883. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit

  884. Nor can a bad tree produce good fruit

  885. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire

  886. So then you will know them by their fruits

  887. Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven

  888. But he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven will enter

  889. Your outside appearance is tied to your actions

  890. And your actions are tied to your inside condition

  891. So yes, you can work it from the outside

  892. Say what I look like is going to be tied to what I do

  893. And what I do is supposed to be tied to who I am on the inside

  894. And as a human being, because you understand the human condition

  895. You can make a break with that

  896. You can say I'm not going to do that

  897. I'm going to be this way on the outside

  898. And make everybody think a certain thing about me

  899. While on the inside I'm all dirty and nasty and filthy and not doing it right

  900. Not really walking with the Lord

  901. God is not affecting me internally

  902. I'm doing all this on the outside

  903. That could get you through your whole life

  904. People live that way and show up

  905. And that's why he said

  906. Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven

  907. Because there were people who prophesied

  908. They said, we prophesied in your name

  909. We healed in your name

  910. And he didn't say, oh no, you did not

  911. Rather they said they prophesied in his name

  912. They healed in his name

  913. And he said, get away from me

  914. I never knew you

  915. You see, you need an internal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ

  916. That will then drive your actions

  917. Which will create your appearance

  918. When your actions bespeak an inward condition

  919. That does not truly exist

  920. Then that is hypocrisy

  921. And Jesus said, woe to you hypocrites!

  922. So first submit your inward man

  923. And then match your outward man to your inward man

  924. That's how it works

  925. Get real

  926. You as a human know that there are parts inside you that were broken

  927. They were broken by the way people treated you

  928. They were broken by the things that you did

  929. Things that you said

  930. Things that you wanted

  931. They were broken by your desires

  932. Whatever, they were broken

  933. And you needed healing

  934. And you get that healing by going to God

  935. I've recently started playing pickleball

  936. Invited out by one of my sons

  937. Kind of enjoyed it

  938. Then I read an article just recently that said there was a particular day

  939. I think it was a Friday night

  940. In which 13% of all the injuries that came into emergency rooms

  941. Across the entire country were pickleball related

  942. Is that crazy?

  943. So it was a certain evening

  944. 13% of everybody that came to the emergency room was pickleball injuries

  945. You know why that is?

  946. Because anybody can play pickleball

  947. It's fun

  948. The rules aren't hard

  949. Anybody can do it

  950. Now, not everybody's going to be great at it

  951. But you go out and play pickleball

  952. And this is what you do

  953. You play a little harder

  954. You play a little faster

  955. Now, you haven't worked out in months

  956. You don't eat right or whatever

  957. But you go and you start playing

  958. Then you play a little harder

  959. And then one moment you slam down

  960. And you tear your Achilles tendon

  961. Or whatever

  962. Strain your back, etc.

  963. And then you're done playing pickleball

  964. And you can't move the next day

  965. And you go to the emergency room

  966. What's happening is people are allowing, wanting, desiring their outward man

  967. To do something that their inward man can't do

  968. This applies to sharing the gospel

  969. You go to try to share the gospel

  970. And you just can't

  971. You're timid

  972. You're afraid

  973. You're like, I don't know how to say this

  974. I don't know what to say to this person

  975. I don't even know

  976. What if they ask me a question?

  977. I have no answers

  978. You are a human

  979. Saved by the God of the universe

  980. With mended insides

  981. You have all that you need

  982. The only problem is you need to bring your insides and your outsides together

  983. And walk like that

  984. Because that's what you were created for

  985. That's what will make you a fanatic

  986. And that's what you were created for

  987. Ezekiel 11.19 says

  988. And I will give them one heart

  989. And put a new spirit with them

  990. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh

  991. And give them a heart of flesh

  992. That they may walk in my statutes and keep my ordinances

  993. In other words, follow the rules

  994. And do them

  995. Then they will be my people

  996. And I shall be their God

  997. But as for those whose hearts go after their detestable things and abominations

  998. And as you go after the things in the world that are not of God

  999. I will bring their conduct down on their heads declares the Lord

1000. So there was a people of God

1001. There was always going to be a people of God

1002. And we can become that people of God

1003. If indeed we submit our hearts to that God

1004. And if on the other hand you submit your actions

1005. And try to work inwardly

  1006. I submit to you

1007. You'll just never get there

1008. That's why Jesus was able to say to Nicodemus on that fateful night

1009. You must be born again

  1010. Even though Nicodemus fasted

  1011. No food or water

  1012. Two days a week

  1013. Probably Tuesdays and Fridays

  1014. Nothing

  1015. 24 hours

  1016. No food or water

1017. The entire book of Genesis

  1018. Word for word

1019. We struggle to memorize verses

1020. He had the whole book of Genesis beginning to end memorized

1021. His entire preaching calendar was filled up every week

1022. In a different worship place

  1023. Synagogue, temple

1024. All the way around the circuit

1025. Because he was a desirable preacher

1026. And Jesus said to him

1027. You must be born again

1028. Or you will not see the Kingdom of God

1029. Because his inward parts were not on the course that God had set for him

1030. Because his inward parts were not aligning with his outward parts

1031. Yes he was a preacher

1032. Yes he was a faster

1033. Yes he was a teacher

  1034. Yes he was desirable

  1035. Yes he was growing

1036. But his inward parts were not aligning with his outward parts

  1037. And Jesus said

1038. You've got to be born again

  1039. It starts that way

1040. Babies don't learn to walk before they come out of the womb

1041. They don't learn to make dietary choices before they come out of the womb

1042. They don't learn to decide whether they're going to take medicine or not

1043. Before they come out of the womb

1044. First you've got to be born

1045. Then those decisions are heaped on you

1046. And it's the same way

1047. If you're trying to live as a Christian

  1048. You've not yet become a Christian

  1049. Stop now

  1050. You're wasting your time

1051. In fact you may get ahead in the world

1052. Your actions may be blessed by following the things that the Lord has led you to do

  1053. Except he's not Lord

1054. And he's not actually leading you to do that at all

1055. You're just following the instruction book for life

1056. When in reality what you need to do is submit your inward parts to the Lord of the Universe for healing and correction

1057. And then he says this

1058. 36 of the same book

  1059. Chapter 36 verse 25

1060. And that's what's been going on since the Garden of Eden

1061. That's how God can say you have no excuse

  1062. Because you're a human being

1063. And you can feel your first hand experience to know that your insides were broken, were incorrect

1064. You needed healing, you needed resetting, you needed re-birthing

  1065. You knew that

1066. And you kept making rules for yourself and living for them

1067. And then breaking the very same rules that you made for yourself

1068. Or that the world made for you

1069. Or even the ones that you learned from me

1070. Breaking them over and over again because your insides are screwed up

1071. You get your insides healed by bringing them back to the one who created them

1072. Who wove them in the first place

1073. You couldn't fix your heart, you can't even find your heart

1074. It's not the organ that beats in your body

1075. It's the center of your decision making

1076. It's the center of all that you care about and yearn for

1077. It's your heart, it's your inward being

  1078. It's a spiritual thing

1079. You can search the entire body from toe to toe

1080. You can do a PET scan and you'll never find it

  1081. It's not there

1082. It exists in a spiritual realm but it exists inside you

1083. And God can fix it

1084. And God can heal it

1085. And then you can wear it on the outside

  1086. That's what we've read

  1087. It's happened a number of times

1088. We're almost ready for that video, Arden

1089. It's happened a number of times that I've seen people get saved

1090. They've given their life over to the Lord

1091. And then they've gone back into the same environment that they lived in before

1092. Where their mom or dad are not Christians

1093. Or the people that live in their neighborhood are not godly

  1094. Or whatever

1095. And they go right back into that same environment again

1096. And they really struggle with being who it is they have now come to be in Christ

1097. You know why that is?

1098. Because their outside begins to take such a big priority

1099. Because their outside begins to take such a big priority

1100. They're worried about it again, right?

1101. And you've got to not do that

1102. It seems a little selfish but in the midst of everyone else wanting something from you

1103. There is one thing you must want more

1104. So we're going to have an object lesson and a video at the same time

1105. So first of all I need a volunteer

1106. In fact I'll take two volunteers to do a little craft

1107. There's Arden, I need one more, and Haley

1108. So I'm going to give you these two straws

1109. You guys are going to work together

1110. And while we watch this little video that we're about to watch

1111. I want you to create one single straw out of all four of those straws

1112. That is as long as you can make it

  1113. So end to end

1114. No tape allowed, you have to do it by craftiness

1115. And then we're going to watch this video for a few minutes while they do that

1116. And then we'll be in our conclusion

  1117. We can't find it

  1118. Should be okay

  1119. That's pretty close

1120. We don't have to go back

1121. Right where it ended was where we wanted to be

  1122. Unless it kept going

1123. It doesn't have to take us in the lump

  1124. Okay

  1125. Okay

  1126. Okay

  1127. Okay

  1128. That's not bad

1129. That wasn't as good as it ought to have been

  1130. The old story

1131. What you are comes out in what you do

1132. A crabapple tree can't produce eating apples

1133. As long as the old self is there

1134. Its taint will be over all we do

1135. We try to be religious and become passive

1136. We try to be kind and become patronizing

1137. Social service ends in red tape and officialdom

1138. Unselfishness becomes all showing off

1139. I don't mean of course that we're to stop crying for the good

1140. We've got to do the best we can

1141. If the soul is just fool enough to go into battle with a dirty rifle

  1142. He mustn't run away

1143. But I do mean that the rural cure lies far deeper

1144. Out of ourselves and into Christ we must go

1145. Two things to take away from the video right away

1146. Is that one, this problem that we're dealing with today

  1147. Is not new

1148. Ever since there have been Christians

1149. People have said I'm going to do the good thing

1150. I'm going to do the good thing

  1151. A Christian is a little Christ

  1152. A Christian is a little Jesus

1153. A Christian doesn't do the things that he has done

1154. Rather a Christian is a person like Jesus was

1155. In fact it says we ought to walk as he walked

1156. And that naturally will equate to being honest

1157. Trying hard, showing up, doing the work

1158. Spending your blood, sweat, and tears if necessary

1159. It will equate to letting your insides govern, drive, and show

1160. In the practical we say things like

1161. Does this course of action line up with what God wants me to do?

1162. And we say it all the time, don't we?

1163. What if that is not the right question?

1164. What if the question is does this course of action line up

1165. With who God wants me to be?

1166. And if it does, then you pour yourself into it

1167. Is this what God has shown me to be and to do?

1168. Does God's Word, which I am learning, command my choice

1169. Or disallow a certain option?

1170. There has never in all my life I sat and thought on this

1171. And meditated on this and prayed on this

1172. Been a time at which I could honestly say to you today

1173. That I asked God what I was supposed to do

1174. In a certain circumstance, did that, and regretted it later

  1175. Never once.

1176. Now, have there been times in which I asked God what I was supposed to do

1177. Did what he told me to do, and then as far as this world was concerned

1178. It sucked, somebody got mad at me, I got hurt

1179. A young man put out a hit on my life, you know, things like that

1180. Have those things, bad things like that happen?

1181. Yes, bad things sometimes come out of obedience to God in this lifetime

1182. But never have I regretted it because I could always say to myself

1183. I know, I did this, I am this because it's who God made me to be

1184. And in that moment, I felt whole

1185. And I don't know that there's any worse thing

1186. Than to feel like what you're doing is hypocritical

1187. To feel like what you're doing is not real

1188. That it's not who you are

1189. That you're somehow being forced to be something that you're not

  1190. Cassandra Clare, I won't forget you, don't worry

1191. Cassandra Clare said, and you're going to go, and right away you're going to go

1192. I have no idea who that is, and that's okay, that's good actually

1193. Says, I believe people are more than one thing

1194. It is one of the great lessons of growing up, learning that people can do both

1195. That's the exact opposite of what I'm saying today

1196. You can search that and find it all over the internet

1197. What I'm saying to you is you couldn't do both, but you're not meant to

1198. What you're meant to do is have a right relationship with God

1199. And then have all of your actions line up with Him

  1200. That's what you're meant to do

1201. Then, and we're in our conclusion now

1202. There's no quit in you

1203. There's no quit in you because not only does the eternal God of the universe

1204. Create eternity new in you so that you will go to heaven and live for what we consider to be an eternity

1205. I submit to you it's infinite, it's more than an eternity

1206. But it's infinite that we will live with God once we get there

1207. And He does that in people whose souls He mends

1208. When He saves us internally, we do that

1209. Now you can live like a dirt bag the rest of your life and still go to heaven

  1210. But you certainly shouldn't

1211. You should wear your insides that God has now created on your outside and it will lead to all form of action

1212. But it also will bring you into conflict with the world

1213. Sometimes you will not be blessed the way you would like to be blessed

1214. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, He says, and they will kill you and you will be hated by all nations because of My name

1215. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another

1216. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many

1217. Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold

1218. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved

1219. If you're living on the outside something different than what's on your inside

1220. I hate to break the news to you but you ain't gonna make it

  1221. It's not gonna happen

1222. You're just gonna wind up in the spiritual emergency room trying to figure out why your insides couldn't power your outsides to do what you did

1223. How did I wind up physically broken? How did I wind up not right? How did I wind up not able?

1224. When I thought my outsides were in line with the Lord

1225. Because your outsides in line with the Lord have to be driven by your insides in line with the Lord

1226. You've got to be born again, you've got to submit your internal for God's healing

1227. And then having done so, unified, go forward

1228. Or I would say don't go forward at all

1229. If you're not willing to do the work like stretch, eat right, get a little bit of rest

  1230. Don't get a hobby like pickleball

1231. If you're not willing to do a little bit of work, study your Bible, pray, memorize, meditate, share your faith

1232. Serve, give, practice the spiritual disciplines

1233. If you're not willing to do some work, then your hobby of Christianity

1234. A. It's gonna cost you a lot more than you're willing to pay

1235. You're gonna break up, fall apart in the process

1236. It's gonna destroy you physically while your body is not able to pay what your soul could pay

1237. But on the other hand, if you're willing to be a fanatic, you're willing to be born again, start fresh

1238. Submit yourself to the God of the universe and live forward with all that you've got

1239. Then all the rest, all your actions, your heart, your hands, your mind, your mouth, your eyes, everything

1240. All of that will come in line with your interior which has been fixed by Jesus, rewoven to be correct

1241. And you'll be able to stay the course

1242. Apply this same standard to anything we choose to do in life

1243. If you can't stay the course in a thing, if you think about something, you think, okay, like

1244. So if the persecutions truly break out next week

1245. And I don't think I'd still be doing this

1246. Let's say you're playing a game or building something or whatever

1247. And then you say, okay, but if the persecutions break out, I'm gonna be hiding my Christianity

1248. I'm gonna be doing Bible study behind closed doors, I'm gonna be worshiping on my own

1249. I'm not gonna let anybody know that I'm a Christian which means I can't do sports anymore

  1250. I can't do choir anymore, I can't do my hobbies anymore, I can't build this anymore

1251. I can't do that anymore because I'm gonna be a different person on that day

1252. Because I know right away, right around the corner is Jesus coming

1253. I'm investing in these things now because it's gonna be a long time before he gets here

1254. But now that I know he's coming like tomorrow or the next day, I'm gonna spend my time focused on God

1255. If that's the way your life is structured right now

1256. Then you need to start cutting out some things that are in your life

1257. That aren't in line with your inward person

1258. And instead build your inward person

1259. Like C.S. Lewis said, why do you think the world thinks Christianity is a little bit selfish?

1260. Because real Christians are concerned about the chief most important thing

1261. Real Christians are concerned about the chief most important thing

1262. And that is that their insides stay in line with the Savior of the universe sent by Jesus who died for that honor

1263. He's in charge of everything now, which means if he's not in charge of your inside

1264. Then something is isolating your insides from him

1265. Ephesians 2, Paul writes that we are saved by grace

1266. That means God will come and do this thing for you if you let Him

1267. He will do the work for you if you let Him

1268. But it also says that we are saved by grace through faith

1269. Now is faith an external thing?

1270. Is it something you can touch, draw, write, eat, wear?

1271. No, it is not, it is an internal thing

1272. But it is an internal thing that by the admission of that very verse

1273. It says we are saved by grace through faith

1274. It is able to create a channel between us and the living God

1275. May I borrow the straw?

1276. No, thank you very much

1277. Here's our finely crafted instrument

1278. Faith acts as a straw and if I had a cup of water here

1279. And enough reverse pressure, it looks like it probably would work

1280. I could suck some water through this straw

1281. Or if I had water pouring down here and I had an empty cup over here

1282. I could stick this straw just barely in the water that's pouring down

1283. And I could watch it drizzle into the cup

1284. I believe it would work

1285. It might fall apart in the process

1286. And it might get shorter

1287. But I guess it would only probably take the smallest little bit of this straw

1288. To redirect the flow of water

1289. You don't need much faith

1290. It exists in your human condition

1291. If you're here and you're not saved, you're not a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ

1292. And you understand you have this faith already

1293. You just need to believe in God for this salvation that he offers

1294. And then to live as a fanatic, you just align your insides with your exterior choices

1295. And wear your heart on the outside of your body

  1296. Stay the course

1297. The greatest sports players, I can't remember the commentator who said this

1298. But he said, talent's easy to come by

1299. Like there are millions of guys in the US right now who have talent in basketball

  1300. Not hundreds, but millions

1301. Talent's easy to come by

1302. And in their neighborhood, it makes them always win

1303. Because they have talent, they win all the time

1304. They're talented and nobody else has their talent

1305. Or a few guys do, but they still

1306. Maybe they mix it up with a couple of them

1307. One guy wins one time, another guy wins the other time

1308. If they're on the same team, they always win because they have talent

1309. So the guys who go pro or the guys who go the distance

1310. They don't go based on talent

1311. Because lots of people have talent

1312. I have talent in basketball and baseball

1313. I just never did anything with it

1314. I'm not a good basketball player or baseball player

1315. But I can do it as talent is when you can do it without really training in it

1316. Lots of guys have talent

1317. But when you add talent to effort

1318. It turns out when you take your talent

1319. And you wear it on the outside

1320. So you get up before everybody else gets up

1321. You show up before everybody else shows up

1322. You do the work that nobody else is willing to do

1323. You shoot a thousand baskets when everybody else shoots ten

1324. You play hours and hours of basketball

1325. When everybody else just plays around a little bit

1326. And you turn talent into something new

1327. Now talent won't get you to heaven

1328. Nor will any other interior traits

1329. Because your insides are messed up

1330. And you need them fixed up

1331. And you got them fixed up from God

1332. So what am I saying?

1333. To become a fanatic, here's what you do

1334. Open everything that's in you

  1335. To God

1336. No exclusive rooms or preferences

  1337. You're hiding nothing

1338. And you humbly come to God and say

1339. Okay God, everything that's in me

1340. I give it to you

  1341. You fix it

1342. You wove it in the first place

  1343. Now you fix it

1344. And then once you've done that

1345. You let that fixing of God

  1346. That born againness

1347. Affect everything that's on the outside

  1348. And now finally, finally

1349. You're moving all in one direction

1350. No longer are you a car or a skateboard

1351. Or going one way with a car going the other

  1352. Tempted to go

1353. Maybe I'll just latch on

  1354. When the pastor preaches

1355. Or when the Bible speaks

1356. Or when the Holy Spirit convicts

1357. You say, oh maybe I'll just do it

1358. Maybe I'll just repent and turn

1359. And go the other way

1360. Maybe I'll just look to God

1361. Maybe I'll just do it

1362. Maybe I'll just do it

1363. Always, that's the human condition

1364. Always wondering, would this work?

  1365. Can I do this?

  1366. No longer like that

1367. But now you and you

  1368. All that is you

1369. Your mind, your soul, your heart, your body

  1370. Your actions, your choices

  1371. All that is you

1372. Moving at whatever pace in one direction

1373. That's what it takes to become a fanatic

1374. You gotta have your insides on your outside

1375. And no quick in you

1376. I ask the praise team to come forward at this time

1377. And lead our closing hymn

1378. And if you're here today

1379. And you would say either A, you've never given your life

1380. To the Lord Jesus Christ in earnest

  1381. Then you do that

1382. Doesn't matter what people think

1383. Or if people think you have

1384. But if you know you haven't

1385. Then you say to God today

1386. Okay, Lord, fix my insides

1387. Come and live in me and fix my insides

1388. And then let's go forward your direction

1389. If on the other hand you'd say

  1390. I'm here and I have

1391. And I've experienced what you're talking about

1392. But I've been putting on airs

1393. Pretending to be somebody I'm not or whatever

1394. Then you turn to God again today

1395. And you say, okay, God, make my insides

  1396. Also my outsides

1397. So I can be just one person

1398. So I'll no longer be torn in two

1399. And I can be that fanatic

1400. That I know the only way I'll ever feel whole

1401. Is when it's all of me going one way

  1402. And if you respond

1403. The Lord is ready to respond

1404. You just stand with me and sing this song

1405. And if the Lord has spoken to your heart in some way today

1406. Then you respond during this time

1407. You can come forward, take my hand and pray together

1408. Or you can pray right where you are and talk to God

1409. And then let us know what conversation is taking place

1410. However you want to handle it

  1411. We are Jesus

  1412. And we cry

  1413. Holy, holy, holy

  1414. And we cry

  1415. Holy, holy, holy

  1416. And we cry

  1417. Holy, holy, holy

  1418. Is the Lamb

  1419. We fall down

  1420. We lay our crowns

1421. At the feet of Jesus

  1422. The great next-day

1423. Mercy and love at the feet of Jesus

  1424. And we cry

  1425. Holy, holy, holy

  1426. And we cry

  1427. Holy, holy, holy

  1428. And we cry

  1429. Holy, holy, holy

  1430. Is the Lamb

  1431. Holy, holy, holy

  1432. Is the Lamb

  1433. We fall down

  1434. We lay our crowns

1435. At the feet of Jesus

  1436. The great next-day

1437. Mercy and love at the feet of Jesus

  1438. And we cry

  1439. Holy, holy, holy

  1440. And we cry

  1441. Holy, holy, holy

  1442. Holy, holy, holy

  1443. Is the Lamb

  1444. Holy, holy, holy

  1445. We fall down

  1446. We lay our crowns

1447. At the feet of Jesus

  1448. The great next-day

1449. Mercy and love at the feet of Jesus

  1450. And we cry

  1451. Holy, holy, holy

  1452. And we cry

  1453. Holy, holy, holy

  1454. And we cry

  1455. Holy, holy, holy

  1456. Is the Lamb

  1457. Holy, holy, holy

  1458. Is the Lamb

  1459. Holy, holy, holy

1460. All right, so Aaron came up here today.

  1461. Come up here, son.

  1462. Sharing with me

1463. kind of the way things have been going.

1464. And just basically saying once I turn back to the Lord,

1465. I'll let you share a little bit your own words.

  1466. Yeah.

  1467. I haven't lived with the inside.

  1468. It's in my heart.

1469. On the outside, exactly the best of my ability.

1470. I haven't been the husband that I want to be.

1471. I want to show the world that what's in my heart is God.

1472. And that's inside and outside.

1473. My heart is in one place, and that's in this place where I'm looking for the Lord,

1474. for the best of my ability.

1475. I've been in prayer and repentance,

1476. so things I've done that have not shown that

1477. align with that that I have in my heart.

1478. I actually would be in prayer for Aaron then, as he's committed himself.

1479. We've already talked to the Lord.

1480. I think the Lord's already done the work here today.

1481. And now there's the living it out.

1482. And you might be in a similar place.

1483. You can be a Christian and be living what you think is right

1484. or doing quote unquote your best.

1485. And it's just not good enough.

1486. It wasn't good enough to get saved.

1487. And it's not going to be good enough going forward.

1488. God can do what we cannot do.

1489. In him, all things are possible.

  1490. He is able.

1491. There was a moment in time when Jesus said,

1492. Oh, it's hard for a rich man to come into the kingdom of God.

1493. The truth is, we're all pretty rich.

1494. Not necessarily wealthy rich, money rich, but rich in a lot of ways.

1495. And even though we're here in this building,

1496. I have this opportunity to live in the nation that we live in.

1497. There are a lot of positive things made available to us,

1498. and that would definitely have qualified.

1499. It is hard to come into the kingdom of God when you got a lot going on.

1500. You got a lot going for you when your relationships are pretty good

1501. or your money's pretty good or it's hard.

1502. So then they asked me, so well, then who can?

  1503. And God said, what?

1504. So we've got all things are possible.

1505. In other words, even a rich man can come into the kingdom of God.

  1506. Anybody can.

1507. They'll take this one step.

1508. And then I'm just I know for a fact, and I have struggled with it myself,

1509. but I know for a fact that there is only one way forward.

1510. You just you just don't get out of bed in the morning and leave your liver in the bed.

1511. You just don't get out, get up from the breakfast table,

1512. leave your feet under the table.

1513. You go wherever you're going all together, all your physically and goes from one place to the next.

1514. And it's the terrible thing to think you'd ever have to have an annotation

1515. or to have a major part of your body removed.

1516. So physically, we understand that.

1517. And yet we want to leave our heart out of this.

1518. Or leave our mind out of it.

1519. What you put in your head will affect your actions.

1520. Your mind is meant to go.

  1521. This is the hierarchy.

1522. Your heart regenerated by Christ rules your mind and your mind makes your decisions and your body does the work.

  1523. That's the hierarchy.

1524. And until you submit your heart to the Lord like that, you're not all going in the same direction at once.

1525. And we feel skittish, you know, we feel nervous.

  1526. We feel frustrated.

1527. We don't. Why is it going the way I want it to go?

1528. You know, if you're safe, your soul will die again.

1529. You won't go to hell.

1530. But you can sure feel like that's going to happen.

1531. You feel like there's a distance, a rift between you and God.

  1532. We don't want that.

  1533. I don't mean emotional, I mean spiritually.

1534. And as I share with Aaron, since we started talking about these things, words seem to fail.

1535. But this was not one sermon standing alone.

1536. Also, it's the sixth in a series.

1537. We are fanatic for Jesus.

1538. That means all of us go in his way.

1539. Whatever that is, you've got to turn your heart over.

1540. Does anybody else need to say a word?

1541. And then we're going to close in prayer.

1542. All right, to remind you, after a brief break, we will have a membership meeting today with a few very important motions on that meeting and some information that I need.

1543. Everyone is welcome, even if you be here and you're not a member of your welcome state.

1544. That is where you would appeal for membership, if you're not a member.

1545. After you say, yeah, I want to join the church or deal with any membership issues that may arise.

  1546. Yes, I'll go quick.

1547. I found out yesterday that my nephew Miguel, my sister's kind son, his dad passed away in a work-related accident.

  1548. Oh, Jesus.

  1549. Yeah.

  1550. OK.

1551. He's not taking it very well at all.

1552. So your prayers are coveted for Miguel, who's going to the loss of his dad, and unexpectedly he's going to work there.

  1553. That's very good.

1554. Father, I thank you so much for offering the opportunity, authoring the process, giving your son, Jesus, to make it work and also to make it abundantly evident.

1555. Then writing in the structure of all creation that the God of the universe alone, you alone, our master, creator,

1556. that you desire a personal relationship with us on an individual basis, one on one.

1557. It is a beautiful thing when a man and a woman get married.

1558. They love one another, hopefully, vimically, and they work toward oneness.

1559. But you made it possible for each of them to be one with you, by the death of your son, atonement, repudiation for sins, by loving us.

1560. And in your love, and in our relationship with you, we find peace.

1561. We know that you, he who is in us is greater than me that is in the world.

1562. We find hope, that hope which is in Jesus Christ who lived, died, and rose again.

1563. And I can say, and people might have a hard time understanding, but I can say that I have met him personally.

1564. I have been in his presence, he's been in me.

1565. And just the same as James, the brother of Jesus, while he was alive, might have said,

1566. he's crazy, calls himself the son of God, even though they say he does miracles, whatever, but he's crazy.

1567. And then after Jesus died and rose again, James was changed forever knowing that Jesus was indeed who he said he was.

1568. And it would have been the same for me. For 25 years I thought Christianity was nuts, it was hard work,

1569. there were so many things that I didn't want anything to do with.

1570. And then when I met Jesus, everything changed. So there might be somebody in this room who has not met you personally,

1571. not had that personal experience knowing that God has fixed their insides, that God is walking in them now,

1572. that they can walk in him now.

1573. I pray Lord that you'll be patient with that person and keep calling that person to yourself until it is so.

1574. Maybe even right now in this moment if I think, I can do this, I think I can give my life over to the Lord.

1575. And what if I did, what would that look like? And they're afraid because they know that being a fanatic means going forward,

1576. energy going forward, one direction, going forward, serving and giving and loving and living for the Lord God.

1577. And that's crazy until it's the only thing.

1578. And I pray Lord for those of us in this room who can say it's the only thing that we will be united with,

1579. our interior and our exterior. The truth, Lord, is bring our insides to the outsides so that all the world can see the love,

1580. see the mercy, see the service. As your word says, that we might be your light.

1581. In him was life and that life was the light of man. And now we are called the light of the world.

1582. Help us Lord, not contain it, but rather display it.

1583. Thank you for being with us during our service today. Bless each family, each person here as they go about living for you

1584. and discovering the universe. We pray it all in Jesus name. Amen.

1585. Thank you very much. This concludes our services, but we will be back in this room in about five minutes for the membership meeting.

1586. So if you've got some business you need to conduct, please do that and then be back.
