Stump The Experts: Bible Trivia
Publisher transcript
Transcript
-
Okay, so I'm going to get started. We are playing
-
Stump the Experts this evening. This is in our
-
rotation. This is the fun night. So I hope you'll
-
have a little bit of fun. It's not meant to be
-
like a big stressful thing or anything like that.
-
And so the way Stump the Experts is played is
-
I have trivia questions that are worth one, two,
-
and five points. A team of experts will be formed.
-
It can be anybody in the audience. It must be
-
composed of a minimum of one adult and a minimum
-
of one child. So you can have up to four players
-
at a time. You have one adult, one child. You
-
have to have a child. You have more than one
-
child. You have to have a child because the child
-
will operate the microphone, which is to say
-
that they will give the correct answer when the
-
correct answer has been determined. Until the
-
correct answer has been determined, you get no
-
points. Okay, we're good. All right, so the way
-
it works is that you sit in the chairs, and then
-
I am emceeing, so I will read the questions.
-
And then when you have the answer, you give the
-
answer to your child, your child speaks the answer
-
in the microphone, that's when you get the points.
-
Every question will have a reference with it.
-
So if by some chance no one on your team knows
-
the question, you can designate one person on
-
your team to look up the answer in the Bible,
-
and you'll get the reference. Sometimes you pay
-
close attention to the reference, they have the
-
answer in it, like their question might be, in
-
what book of the Bible does this happen, blah,
-
blah, blah. And then it says Genesis 17. So that
-
might be the answer to the question after the
-
book of Genesis. So you've got to pay attention
-
to the question. But read the question. And if
-
the other members of the team are shouting out
-
the answers or give us the wrong answer, none
-
of that matters. It only matters once they pass
-
the answer to the child who has the microphone.
-
Once they say the answer into the microphone,
-
whether they say it incorrectly enough that we
-
cannot understand what they're saying. take somebody's
-
wrong answer instead of somebody's right answer
-
or whatever like that then that's the answer
-
and you don't get the points yes we're going
-
to do four minutes to get four minutes to score
-
as many points as possible and then the winning
-
team will at least get bragging rights you can
-
play on more than one team if you want to hedge
-
your bets and try to be more likely to be on
-
the winning team you can do that it was not mandatory
-
for anybody to play but because You just, I mean,
-
a lot of it's educated guests or you can always
-
say, well, I'll look it up in the Bible and the
-
reference is given to you. So, you know, just
-
look it up by the reference. Anybody can do it.
-
It's not super hard, right? So what we're going
-
to do is we're going to pray and then we'll begin
-
round one of Stumpy Experts. We'll go for probably
-
four or five rounds and then we have snacks and
-
treats and drinks and we'll just have fellowship
-
in the cafeteria, okay? So we have more people
-
still want to go. People are like, hey, I didn't
-
get to do it. They'll get tested. Yes, ma 'am.
-
Nope. Nope. You're in here with us, which means
-
you can be talking into this microphone if you
-
want to. Okay? So every team must have a child.
-
So if you're a child in the room and we can't
-
get a child, we'll volunteer to come up here
-
and be the child. Okay? But I don't think we'll
-
have trouble getting it. Some children will go
-
two or three times. They like to do it. So it's
-
actually pretty fun. I would show you. I would
-
give you an example on how to do it right now.
-
I'm the MC, so that would be hard. All right,
-
so to begin with, I need a child for the microphone.
-
Going once. Okay, we're going to go with Zayden
-
first. Zayden, you're going to go first? Come
-
on, baby. Sit right here. Sit right there. Okay.
-
And then we need a minimum of one adult. One
-
adult. All right, time to date. We will. We'll
-
pray. Don't worry. All right. And then we can
-
fill the other top two spots with any volunteers
-
who want to give it a try. If you want to have
-
Tony Tate on your team, you want Zayden. It's
-
funny because I was going to say Zayden. Zayden,
-
come on. Come on. Okay. Say it. Say it now. Remember
-
the goal is to get as many points as possible.
-
Some questions are worth five points. Some questions
-
are only worth one. If you take a lot of one
-
-point questions, you may get them all right,
-
but you won't accumulate points as fast. We're
-
going to pray first, and then we'll begin. Are
-
you ready? All right, let's pray. Father in heaven,
-
we are grateful for this opportunity to kind
-
of, I mean, really it's playing is what it is.
-
Playing with your word, playing with things that
-
we could know a lot about and maybe we'll find
-
we don't know that much about them. And they're
-
all available to us. They're in your word. We
-
know this word is not just a toy. It is a weapon.
-
It is the single greatest weapon in spiritual
-
warfare. Whenever we should face a challenge,
-
a temptation, a distraction, kind of a dark feeling
-
or an emotional depression or anything, we ought
-
to be able to draw on this weapon that you have
-
made available to us. If we don't own it, boy,
-
do we know we don't own it. Because when we study
-
it, it's constantly affecting us, constantly
-
changing us, constantly working to remind us
-
of our failures and also our successes and what
-
real success is available through Jesus Christ.
-
And so we ask you, Lord, as we do this, maybe
-
somebody will hear something. Maybe somebody
-
will be touched by something. Maybe somebody
-
affected by time together with believers who
-
will just stick their neck out a little bit,
-
stand up for you, and have a little fun in the
-
process. And we praise you for all that's going
-
to go on. And we do this in Jesus' name. Amen.
-
Okay, so check your microphone, make sure it's
-
working. And you're going to want your chair
-
up a little bit because they're going to give
-
you the answers, remember? Now, if I read a question,
-
Zaden, and you're sure that you know the answer,
-
you can just immediately speak it into the microphone
-
or realize that if you get it wrong, your team
-
gets no points. Okay? So it's a good idea to
-
listen to them. And you might have to pick. Like,
-
Sean might say it's one thing, and Tony might
-
say it's another, and you have to pick between
-
them. Whatever you say into the microphone, that's
-
the one that counts. All right? Okay. Who's going
-
to be my timer? We need someone keeping score
-
and we need someone running a timer. Okay, can
-
you set it for four minutes? Yes. And we'll start
-
it when we're ready. Bibles are allowed. You
-
can't look it up unless you designate a person.
-
And if you designate a person to look it up...
-
then that person cannot help with any other questions
-
until they're done. Okay? So you can't look it
-
up unless you designate that person to look it
-
up, and once they're designated to look it up,
-
that's all they can do until they're done. Now,
-
they can give a wrong answer to get out of that
-
if they're stuck and can't find it, but you won't
-
get any points for that. Okay? All right. The
-
first question of every round will be a one -point
-
question. After that, we'll have Spade in to
-
pick. Put the microphone by your mouth and stop
-
playing with it. Okay? All right. Here we go.
-
Mark, get set, start the timer. Who said, I am
-
a man which I'm a Jew of Tarsus, a city of Cilicia?
-
You're thinking, someone's going to look it up
-
if you don't know the answer. You have to get
-
rid of it. You have to either get the wrong answer
-
or tell us. I don't have to give you the reference
-
unless someone's going to look it up. Okay, so
-
Jason's going to look it up. So Jason will be
-
out of play until he's done looking it up. Okay,
-
the next question. Who said, I am Esau thy firstborn?
-
I'm sorry, Acts 21 -39. Who said, I am Esau thy
-
firstborn? What? Okay, I need an answer. I am
-
Esau thy firstborn. Okay. Acts 21 .39 is the
-
reference. Who said, I am Esau by firstborn?
-
As soon as you get one correct, you can pick
-
what points you want. Do you have an answer?
-
Yeah. Yeah, that's the answer. He's got to say
-
it in the microphone. Rachel is incorrect. Would
-
you like a one -point, two -point, or five -point
-
question? Oh, he's going with the glory. Okay,
-
here we go. Who said, I am innocent of the blood
-
of this just person? Okay. Judas Iscariot. Judas
-
Iscariot is incorrect. Which of Joseph's brothers
-
suggested they sell him to the Ishmaelites? Did
-
you find that answer, Jason? You didn't find
-
it? Okay, you can either give a wrong answer
-
or you're going to be stuck there staring at
-
that violin for the last two and a half minutes.
-
What's the reference? One and a half minutes.
-
What's the reference? The reference was Acts
-
21. 27. 2719. I think I gave you the wrong reference.
-
I think I said 21 last time. Who said... Which
-
of Joseph's brothers suggested that they sell
-
him to the Israelites? I literally just read
-
this story during camp. Did you say David? Is
-
that what you said? He said David. You're better
-
off to make a guess and get on to a cheaper question.
-
Let's just do it. Reuben. Reuben is incorrect.
-
Okay, now we're going to one point question time.
-
Right now we've got zero, so let's get on with
-
it. Okay. Who said we ought to obey God rather
-
than men? 35. 35 seconds. Peter. Peter is correct.
-
Next question. Yes. What was Zacharias unable
-
to do after the angel spoke to him? I know the
-
answer. You can just say it. That's correct.
-
Okay, what is the first command line? That's
-
correct. Seven points total and we're out of
-
time. This team is dismissed, but you can volunteer
-
again if you want. Let's go. Other people want
-
a chance before you get your next chance. Let's
-
go. So far, you said pull ahead. You only need
-
eight points. We need a kid. Who's our kid? You're
-
not a kid. I'll let you go. Don't worry. Not
-
yet. All right. We need a minimum of one adult.
-
Chris, come on, Chris. Your wife's always throwing
-
you out of the dog bus. We're about to leave.
-
All right, we need two people to fill in. So,
-
Haley. One more. Tommy. All right, let's go.
-
It's Tomas. Yeah, remember, two more Tomas. You
-
can always look it up if it's really struggling.
-
All right, we have the timer on. Fifteen twenty
-
-one point, guys. Better than seven to be in
-
the lead. Ready? And are you ready? Remember,
-
you're the only one who can talk to the microphone.
-
You're the only one who can ultimately answer
-
the question. So as soon as they give you the
-
answer, or if you already know it, you can just
-
say it. Okay? Alright, here we go. Start the
-
timer. Was Solomon made king before or after
-
David died? Was he made king before or after
-
David died? Again. Say again. The four is correct.
-
That's one point. One, two, or five? Five it
-
is. One for the glory. Okay, here we go. In Jewish
-
money, how many shekels equal one talent? And
-
there is no reference, so you'd have to figure
-
out a way to look it up on your own, like in
-
a study Bible or something. You can always guess.
-
If you get it wrong, you just go on to the next
-
question. Just say 20. We're burning time. Say
-
20, and then you'll be out of the questions.
-
20 is incorrect. Do you want a 5 again, or do
-
you want to go down? 2 it is. Okay, here we go.
-
In what city did Solomon build the temple? Jerusalem.
-
Jerusalem. Jerusalem. Jerusalem is correct. Two
-
points. Two again? Two again? Okay, here we go.
-
How old was Moses when he first appeared before
-
Pharaoh to deliver the children of Israel? How
-
old was Moses when he first appeared before Pharaoh
-
to deliver the children of Israel? Yes, there
-
is. The reference is Exodus 7 -7. We will be
-
out until he answers the question. Two again.
-
Which of the Gospels was written by a man who
-
was a publican? Okay, I got it. Okay, you can
-
give it to her any time. Say 80 years. 80 years
-
is correct with two points. The current question
-
is, which of the Gospels was written by a man
-
who was a publican? A publican. A publican, like
-
a politician, working together. Which of the
-
Gospels? There's only four Gospels. You got it?
-
25 % chance. Matthew is correct for two points.
-
Another two? What did Paul tell the Philippian
-
jailer to do in order to be saved? What did he
-
tell the Philippian jailer to do in order to
-
be saved? Yes, there is. Okay? The reference
-
is Acts 16 .31. 1, 2, or 5. Do it again. Acts
-
16 .31. Who said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
-
and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior?
-
My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit
-
hath rejoiced in God my Savior. Who said that?
-
My brain is hard today. I meant to be easy. Easy
-
ones are in the one bucket. Somebody can look
-
it up. The reference is Luke 1, 46 -47. You'll
-
be out of the mix until you guys want to take
-
a one. Just you and Chris. Here we go. Luke 1,
-
46 -47. How did Peter escape from prison the
-
night before Herod planned to kill him? How did
-
Peter escape from prison the night before Herod
-
planned to kill him? Time. Mine is Mary. So we
-
won't get that one. You can finish these two
-
that you were looking at. The first question
-
was, who set my soul to magnify the Lord? Mary.
-
Mary, that's correct for two points. And then
-
what did Paul tell the Philippian jailer to do
-
in order to be saved in Acts 16 .31? We're going
-
to have to play the telephone game to get it
-
down better. We need the Lord Jesus and we will
-
be saved. That is correct for two points. Okay,
-
what did they get? Eleven. Eleven. Eleven is
-
the new number to eat. Okay, you guys are good.
-
Would you sit down? Okay, it's always going to
-
be your kids, so we're going to need a good team
-
to back her up up here. First, we need a minimum
-
of one adult. You're going to talk right into
-
it and put your mouth right on it. Say your name.
-
What's your name? We're going to need a new timer
-
because our timer is playing. Who's timing me?
-
All right, Haley's got the timer. Hey, your first
-
question has to come from the one bucket. Remember,
-
you can only use your Bibles if you're out of
-
the mix to look up a specific question. Are we
-
ready? Start the timer. What gift of God was
-
given the church on the day of Pentecost? For
-
one point. The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is
-
correct for one point. Would you like one, two,
-
or five? Five. Oh, boy. Make it hard on you.
-
Make it hard on you. Okay. All right. Who was
-
called the weeping prophet of Judah? Oh, man.
-
For five points. A great opportunity to get five
-
points. That's a three -pointer. There is no
-
reference, however. What? So the only way you
-
can figure it out is you can study Bible. Who
-
was called the weeping prophet of Judah? Do we
-
have an answer? Don't waste a lot of time on
-
it. Who was called the weeping prophet of Judah?
-
All right, Caleb, you're out of the mix until
-
you get an answer, right or wrong. Zoe, one,
-
two, or five. Two it is. There is no reference.
-
Go in the back of the dictionary section. Okay.
-
Who said it is not good that man should be alone?
-
For two points. God. That is correct. God. Two
-
points. Very good. Two again? One. Okay. One
-
to one. Who was called the weeping prophet of
-
Judah? Who said, I will serve thee seven years
-
for Rachel, your younger daughter? That should
-
be a two or five. I did this to my dad. Take
-
him out of the mix. That's why I gave it to you.
-
You can always guess and miss it and move on.
-
Joseph is incorrect. Sorry. One, two, or five?
-
One. One it is. That was a tough one, that last
-
one. Okay, here we go. What did Paul say should
-
not exist among the brethren? What did Paul say
-
should not exist among the brethren? Just the
-
name of a prophet. Maybe we'll get it lucky.
-
What did Paul say should not exist among the
-
brethren? Sin. Sin is incorrect, although it's
-
kind of a sin. Are you guessing, Caleb? There
-
we go. Malachi is incorrect. Caleb is back in.
-
In the beginning, what did God create? For one
-
point. How many years did the children of Israel
-
sojourn in Egypt? How many years were they stuck
-
in Egypt? There is a reference. The reference
-
is Exodus 12 .40. RJ is looking it up. A quick
-
video one. What was it, Exodus 1240? Yes, 1240.
-
Okay, and the question is, who was the father
-
of Seth? Who was the father of Seth? It is 430,
-
but she said 440. I'm sorry. She can't pronounce
-
it. She didn't feel the pronounces she misheard
-
it from you so she did a good job. Who was the
-
father of seven? We got the time up. Who was
-
the father of seven? Give it up. Okay. All right.
-
How did they get? Oh man. Okay. They would have
-
had nine. Yeah. Good stuff. Good stuff. All right.
-
Clear the chairs. It sounded like 440. Would
-
you like me to clarify with her? Because she
-
won't find it. Here you go. I'm going to ask
-
you a question. When you're answering that question,
-
you need to say 430 or 440. 430. We're going
-
to give them the five points. They'll be at nine.
-
Alright, here we go, be the team. Who's our kid
-
that hasn't gone yet? Alright, who's our adult?
-
We won't force her to do it. Tony Tate will go
-
again unless we can talk another room. You want
-
to go again? He wants to cry and make you start
-
showing. This time he volunteered himself. The
-
highest score ever is like 40, so it is pretty,
-
you know, that was pretty impressive. Sherry's
-
in. Is there somebody else that hasn't gone?
-
Anybody else haven't gone? Okay, so the first
-
question will be from one. Remember, if you try
-
to look something up, you're out until you either
-
look it up or give a wrong answer. Are you ready?
-
Do we have a timer, Haley? Where was Joseph sent
-
when he refused to sin? There is a reference.
-
At one point, where was he sent when he refused
-
to sin? Joseph. The reference is Genesis 39,
-
20. The next question is, who wrote, in the beginning
-
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
-
the Word was God? You can answer any time if
-
you have it already. Prison. Prison is correct
-
for one point. Who wrote, in the beginning was
-
the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
-
Word was God? John. You have to pick one. Oh,
-
he did. You're right. That's right. John is correct
-
for one point. One, two, or five. Okay. What
-
does testament mean? As in the New and Old Testament.
-
What does it mean? And there is no reference.
-
You can always take a guess. If you get it wrong,
-
move on. Scripture is incorrect. Five, two, or
-
one? Two. Two it is. In what did Paul counsel
-
Timothy to be strong? And there is a reference.
-
What pitfall counseled Timothy to be strong?
-
Second Timothy 2 .1. You look it up for two points.
-
Sherry, that'll mix. One, two, or five. How many
-
daughters did the priest of Midian have? How
-
many daughters did the priest of Midian have?
-
Grace is correct. Two points. How many daughters
-
did the priest of Midian have and there is a
-
reference? What's the reference? Exodus 2 .16.
-
That's all. One to arrive. In Bible times, what
-
coin was considered fair compensation for a day's
-
labor? For one day's labor, how much did people
-
get paid? You can answer that question anytime
-
if you have it. Seven. Seven is correct. In Bible
-
times, that was five points. In Bible times,
-
what coin was considered fair compensation for
-
a day's labor? Talent. Talent is incorrect. One,
-
two, or five? Five. One for the glory. I'm not
-
a bad caller. Who wrote the book of Lamentations?
-
Who wrote the book of Lamentations for five points?
-
Who wrote the book of Lamentations? Awesome.
-
Take a guess. Does the group have a guess? Nope?
-
Okay. How many points? How many was it? Nine
-
points. Okay, clear the chairs. We need a child.
-
We need an adult. The only volunteer I had before
-
was Tony Tate. Come on, Tony Tate. Do it afterwards.
-
All right. We've got two chairs left. Who hasn't
-
gone yet? Everybody raise your hand if you've
-
gone once. Abby, you haven't been on that side
-
though, right? You can go up there. Anybody else
-
hasn't been on that side? What would you say?
-
We should switch. Go ahead. If there was a question
-
that you heard that you don't know the answer
-
to, you'll have to remember it and ask it at
-
the end. In Bible times, what coin was considered
-
pure compensation for a day's labor? We had this
-
question. Do you know the answer? The last guess
-
was a talent and it was incorrect. I know. Okay.
-
I'm thinking whether we want to give that answer.
-
I'm going to say that's incorrect. The value
-
is approximately correct. The correct answer
-
is a Roman pen. I'll take it out so we can all
-
begin. Who killed James, the brother of John?
-
Who killed James, the brother of John? One point.
-
There is a reference. The Pharisees. The Pharisees
-
is incorrect. It's one, two, or five. The big
-
one. You want all the five ones? Yeah, I know.
-
Let's do it. Hopefully it's one you can look
-
up. It does have reference. Okay. Who was the
-
king of Babylon that destroyed Jerusalem? I don't
-
know. Who was the king of Babylon that destroyed
-
Jerusalem? Reference? You want to look it up?
-
2 Kings 25 .1. You're stuck in the five bucket.
-
Here we go. Next question. How many Assyrians
-
were slain near Jerusalem? How many Assyrians
-
were slain near Jerusalem? There is a reference.
-
That was a five point? I'll take the reference.
-
2 Kings 19 .35. Two five -point questions. All
-
right. Okay. It is Nebuchadnezzar. All right.
-
Say it. Nebuchadnezzar. Very good. For five points,
-
Nebuchadnezzar is correct. Comment back into
-
the mix. Who said, and he shall bring forth a
-
son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus? I'll
-
give you that. It's the angel of the Lord. Okay.
-
That was two points. Okay. One, two, or five.
-
That is correct. $185 ,000 for five points. Boom.
-
Okay. One, two, or five? Two it is. In 1 Kings,
-
how was the unfaithful man of God killed? In
-
1 Kings, how was the unfaithful man of God killed?
-
It does have a reference. Sword in the stone.
-
That is incorrect. One, two, or five. One, two,
-
or five. Run them. Run them. The name of what
-
place means hitherto hath the Lord helped us.
-
Hitherto hath the Lord helped us. What place?
-
It does. 1 Samuel 7, 12. This is five points.
-
One, two, or five. Do a two. Thank you. Eve was
-
created from what part of Adam's body? I hope
-
it's not a big... The rib. The rib is correct
-
for two points. One, two, or five. I'll give
-
you that. That was for five points. One, two,
-
or five. Where was two points? Which book tells
-
of seven seals, seven vials, and seven trumpets?
-
Seven seals, seven vials, and seven trumpets.
-
Revelation is correct with two points. Two points.
-
This will probably be your last question. For
-
two points, how many books are in the Bible?
-
Sixty -six. Sixty -six is correct. I'm sure I
-
won. Is that it? That's it. How many points?
-
Twenty -five. Twenty -five. The all -time leader.
-
Fist bump. Incorrect, incorrect, incorrect. All
-
