Sermon: "John 14:16-17" Guest Speaker Aaron Wheeler

We've covered this in Sunday School coping well last week

and half and your heart and you can't shake it,

and I've been I've been toss and turn over this

for several weeks. When a pastor asked me if if

I wanted to deliver it a passage, I knew that

this is where it was going to go. But in

that me law of hard work me because I've got

to start over night and my ideas and putting stuff

on paper and face that conviction head on, you know.

So that condition for me.

This morning was taking the presence of the Holy Spirit

living in and us for granted.

Being John Chapter fourteen Versus sixteen through twenty. This morning,

You're welcome to the.

Turn air with me or following on the screen. So

John chapter fourteen, verse sixteen, I will ask for the Father,

and he will give you another helper, that he may

be with you forever. That is the spirit of Truth,

whom the world cannot receive because it does not see

him or know him. But you know him because he

abides with you and will be in you. All right, Jesus,

love you and baably thank you for the word and.

This hon Us that.

Actually giving us. The Holy Spirit will be with us

and in us, because oh if your love that you

poured that upon it, with your spirit, I just a

fear that she would open hearts and open years and

just reveal yourself to us this morning. And she's.

All right.

So we all take things for granted, usually something in

the background, something you don't really think about until it

quick working or it's just not there anymore. And most

of you know that I worked for a public utility.

I think these kind of services are one of the

most often things that we've taken for granted. Just last weekend,

four o'clock in the morning, I got out of bed.

We were out of power. My fan quit. I couldn't

sleep anymore, you know, it's.

Hot in there.

I didn't have noise anymore.

Whenever you flip one in the powers which power always

comes on whenever you well, for us old people, you know, white,

the landline is you pick up the phone, there's always

a dial phone, You turn on a faucet, there's always

water coming out, and it always goes away. You know,

you just don't think about those things. Now. I can't

tell you much about water or about power and phone,

but I can't.

Tell you a lot about water and waste. Water stressful here.

So every job water that we use in this building.

You know, it has been made, paddle down around lake's

traveled through two water systems, been bought and sold.

Before it gets here.

It goes into one hundred and fifteen thousand gallon water

sword tank, get its pumped out at into a two

hundred and twenty thousand gallon water tank up up.

Up there, highly interstate. And that's how we hit the

pressure in this building.

We get one kind of the pressure for.

Every two point three one feet of water inside that tank.

You know.

So a lot of people just take that stuff for granted.

But why do I know so much more about it?

I know it's it's my job to know about it

for one thing. Yes, But but I spent the time

to take to learn about it.

I've got a relationship with this place. I've really taken

the time to get to know it. You know, there

are times where myself, especially, I've taken the the.

Presence of the Boy experience.

I don't be for granted. You know, we also we

all often hear that the the Holy experit works in

us and through us, that it's just kind of become normal.

We stopped, we are forget to really tip. I'm thinking

about what that means and what it costs. In John sixteen,

verse seven. Yeah, nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It

is to your advantage that I go away. For if

I do not go away, the helper will not come

to you. But if I go I will send him

to you. Jesus Christ had to go away in order

or of the helpers to come for the presence of

the Holy Spirit dwelling in anxiety of you as a believer.

Cast the Son of God is life, that the creator,

God of the universe sent him to form of himself.

With walking among us little life.

That we should but we can't die death, that we

deserved one that he didn't. Also that he considered a

helper to every believer, so we will never be along.

It was to our advantage that he go away. While

Jesus was on earth.

He's don't want to be in one place at a time.

But the Holy Spirit, however, can can can cover the

entire world at all times. Henry said, Christ's bodily presence

was a comfortable, but the Spirit is more intimately a

comforter and in Christ and a specially presers because the

Spirit can comfort all believers that wants in all places,

while Christ's bodily presence can comfort but a few, and

that only in one place at a time.

The benefit of Christ's presence was.

Great, but the advantage of his spiritsal renovation and holy

inspiration is much greater. So even though Jesus had to leave,

he promised he wouldn't leave us as long.

John fourteen eighteen s I will not leave you as orphans.

I will come to you.

God wants a relationship with us to the point that

that he's willing to live an insiety's every believer. He

wants it so badly that he sent his son to

pay that Christ for it, and you just said he

wants that relationship. He doesn't need our relationship. He wants

our relationship, which makes it so much greater. So how

do we really pay the love that God has shown

us for that? You know, by by a comment here

once a week, praying at newal times.

And He's just so much more than that.

So you know, I didn't learn all that stuff about

the water sits somebody by.

Just showing up once a week.

You know, I've that's forty plus hours a week for

the last eight, sixteen, seventeen years.

You know, I just we're showing you my gud like

my job.

You know, how awesome would that be?

But the good news is we can we can know

God like that.

We can know God like a close personal friend, and

all we have to do is have a covenant relationship

with him. So what is a covenant relationship? A covenant

relationship is an awesome promise of God. It's a covenant

is a relationship between two partners making by any and

promises to each other to work together and reach tim

and gold, like an agreement based on love and commitment.

So we were created for this relationship. In Genesis too,

we read for we read how it's not good for

man to be alone. Then the Lord said, it's not

good the man.

Should be alone. A man came a helper fit for him.

And in verse twenty four, so therefore a man should

leave his father and mother and hold fast to his

wife and hl become one flesh. Since the beginning of creation,

Guy has desired a relationship from us and for us

with the other believers. But how do we build that

relationship with the Holy Spirit. How do you really get

to know someone. You have to spend quality time with him.

You have to seek him.

Twenty nine thirteen. You will seek me and find me

when you seek me with all your heart.

God has more grace and enjoyment for those who earnestly

seek him. It's just happen to seek the spirit. Number one,

search and study what God has said in his scriptures.

He has shown a connection between the spirit and his word.

John six, verse sixty three.

It is a spirit who get his life. But the

flesh is no hell of it all. But the words

I have spoken to you are a spirit and life.

We can also look at the loss in the sixteen.

But the word of Christ well and you racially teaching.

And admonishing one of the other in all wisdoms, singing

pombs and hymns.

And spiritual songs.

But the thankfulness to the thankfulness in your hearts to

God Ephesians chapter five or eighteen nineteen. Do you not

get drunk with the wind, for that is the boctory,

But he filled with the spirit, addressing him one another

in songs and sircal songs, singing and making melody to

the Lord in your heart. By diving into God's word

and celebrating and worship, we can experience the Spirit living

inside of us.

Point umber two. Believe in what you read and study.

Faith in the spirit is a product of belief Galatious

three to fourteen, So that in Christ Jesus, the blessing

of Abraham might comes to the gentiles, so that we

might received the promised Spirit through faith.

Believe what God has promised to us in number three.

Be obedience to what you hear and believe John fourteen

twenty one. Whoever keeps my commandments, or whoever had my

commandments and keeps him, he is who loves me. And

he who loves me will be loved by my Father,

and I will love him and manufact manifest myself to him,

hold fact of which you will lead, and he will

be into your calling. None before we long to be

with him when we were apart from someone we love,

don't don't we We just long to be with that person.

Songs forty two. You wanted to as dear pants for

the flowing extreams. So do my soul pants for you God,

my soul thirst for God, for the living God. When

shall I come and to prepare before God? We should

desire to be into the presence of God, both here

and now and for all future eternity. John fifteen thirteen.

All right, one out there, John fifteen thirteen.

Great love has known this Someone laid down his life

for his friends.

The Son of God loved us enough to lay down

his life for us. We should long to be with

him in that love. But Jean, have to do on

this hallway yourself. You know there's times when I really

struggle the focus uh and and my reading.

And my praying and my worship.

You know, we know that we always have the spirit.

But you'alls have this entire body of brothers and sisters here.

Any one of us will come alongside you to encourage you,

hold you accountable.

Meet up with one another. I'm really looking forward.

To it won't be hopefully much longer, will be starting

off or kicking off our cock excuse me, our co

our community. Years again, it's been a few years since

you had those. Really looking forward to to breaking bread

with with with with people on setting structure. You know, just.

When we we read strict together.

So often I'll get something out of it that Jason doesn't,

and Gabe doesn't, Jared doesn't that uh, and and they

get something out of it that that I don't even see,

you know, because we're all different walks in our faith

and different walks in our life, and just script reveal

stuff to a different one. We have to read our

Bible through different lenses. One of the I s I

conferences we got to hear from Chris Harper. He's the

CEO of an organization called Better Man, and he throws

out there like.

This, he tries to read his Bible through three different lenses.

He says, read your.

Bible as a son or a daughter.

You know, the Bible is God's word written for you.

Read it as if it was a letter from your father,

and try to gain something from that. Read your Bible

as a brother.

Or a sister.

It was a small group of people and read short

passages together. He's currently going through over to the Bible,

and every.

Every day they've got a short piece of that they.

Text message and they just they just fire back with

what God has revealed to them that morning. It doesn't

have to be long, short and quick and just daily accountability.

And you can read the Bible as a father or

a mother.

You read the Bible to get something out of it

that that you can you can pass on to someone

else you know. And and our walkheads believers, we we

really need to strive to be to continue to be

disciple and to seek someone to disciple when he should

always be looking forward to to passing on what you know,

it was someone else.

So kind of close things up here.

How do we build our relationship with the Holy Spirit

by diving into God's word, by rejoicing with him in worship,

by being in relationship with other others in Christ to

walk along the side as the hole accountable. Encourage us.

By intentionally focusing.

On these ones and striving me to be in the

presence of God.

How can we take the presence out of the Holy

sperent for granted.

Whenever he is not in the background but.

In the forefront, we can't help but keep our eyes

on him.

Jesus died so we can have this relationship.

Let's not slaughter it. So let's pray.

Well, Jesus, we love you and Father. We thank you

for the time together to just gather with with your

people and break down your word. We just pray that

she would.

Reach those who who are on the fence, who don't

realize that they do have the power of hole speri

inside of it.

God, you just.

We just call through beans to be not merely here yours.

And we thank you for this word and your sons

and He's going to be prayer.

Amen.
