  8. now as we hear from God's word, All right, let's

  9. get get on with it, shall we. The food is

  10. awaiting and we're gonna.

  11. Hear what God has to say to us this morning

  12. In Romans.

  13. Romans, We're gonna look at chapter six, in verses one

  14. through five, So if you have your Bibles you can

  15. turn there. If not, you can read along entitled Today's

  16. message Like Him in Death and His Resurrection, Romani one

  17. through five, Verse one. What shall we say, then, are

  18. we to continue in sin that grace may abound by

  19. no means?

  20. How can we who died to sin still live in it?

  21. Do you not know that all of us who have

  22. been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death.

  23. We were buried.

  24. Therefore with him by baptism into death in order that

  25. just as Christ was raised from the dead by the

  26. glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness

  27. of life. For if we have been united with Him

  28. in a death like his, we shall certainly be united

  29. with him in.

  30. A resurrection like his. Wow.

  31. What a powerful scripture verse, a powerful proclamation of who

  32. we are in Christ. But Paul addresses this thing of

  33. sin in us, and we have to face it, we

  34. have to talk about it, we have to deal with it,

  35. because it's something that all of us deals with. And

  36. you've no doubt heard the definition of insanity, right. Insanity

  37. is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting

  38. different results. And if that's true, then we have all

  39. experienced insanity to one degree or another.

  40. Right, because so often in our lives.

  41. We think we keep doing it, we're gonna see a

  42. different result, and so often that it's.

  43. Just not true.

  44. But some Christians live their life that way, some who

  45. claim to the follow Christ, and those who do follow Christ,

  46. they allow themselves to be caught up in the same

  47. loop of sinful activity and then wonder why they can't

  48. get out of it, or wonder why there's no growth

  49. or there's no victory in their life. It happens in marriages,

  50. it happens in job performances, it happens in toxic relationships

  51. and friendships.

  52. And the easy thing to say is stop doing those things.

  53. Does that work? Or just or get out of that relationship?

  54. Does that work? If you want to get out of

  55. a sinful cycle, stop doing those things.

  56. And that's easy to say to someone, But it's certainly

  57. not always so easy to break out of rarely is it.

  58. So Paul says it in verse two, says, how can

  59. we who died to sin still that's a that's a

  60. that's a this black and white, plain.

  61. And simple question. How can we who have died to

  62. sin still live in it?

  63. When we repented of the old sins of our old life,

  64. what did we do?

  65. We put them to death? They no longer sin, no

  66. longer has a hold on us.

  67. We've been set free from the power and the curse

  68. of sin.

  69. That's true.

  70. It's it's a fact.

  71. Of knowing Jesus and meaning in Christ, we have been

  72. set free from.

  73. The power and the curse of sin Galatians five to one.

  74. Paul says, for freedom, Christ has said us.

  75. Free, So stand.

  76. Firm therefore, and do not do not submit again to

  77. a yoke.

  78. Of slavery, slavery to sin and Romans eight two.

  79. For the law of the spirit of life has set

  80. you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin

  81. and death.

  82. In Christ, we are.

  83. Dead to sin, meaning we should no longer respond to

  84. its enticements.

  85. And when you say, would you say that that's easier

  86. said than done.

  87. Even though we are dead to sin, we have been

  88. reckoned dead to sin in Christ, we should no longer respond.

  89. To its enticements.

  90. I don't know if I've ever shared this example before,

  91. but it's.

  92. Such a great example.

  93. Someone who is physically dead, they no longer respond to anything.

  94. Right, you're dead, You're dead, you know, I mean, you know,

  95. a dead person. You know they're not gonna respond to that. Right,

  96. I'm I'm respond.

  97. But there's there's no longer there's no longer a response

  98. because there's death.

  99. And that's how we should be to the enticement of sin.

  100. And I think we would all agree all degree.

  101. Yes, it's easy to say that I'm dead to the

  102. enticement of sin, but it's it's not so easy to

  103. live out.

  104. It's a battle it's a battle. It's a battle every day.

  105. It's a battle many many times a day to be

  106. dead to sin. And then each is an easy question

  107. for you. How how would you define death?

  108. I think one of the best descriptions is unresponsive. No,

  109. I I'm not like I'm not like eating up with

  110. cop shows. But you watched one and then come across

  111. somebody who's dead. What's the report?

  112. Who's unresponsive? Right, that's how we should be to the

  113. enticement of sin.

  114. The only response that we should give to sin is

  115. the example of Jesus.

  116. And he gave the word of God. Right, get thee

  117. behind me.

  118. Satan Classians three, verses five through eight.

  119. Paul speaking, he says, put to death. Therefore, what is

  120. earthly in you?

  121. Sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, consciousness, which is idolatry?

  122. I want you to listen to the verse five in

  123. the amplified version. Okay, before I move on, listen to

  124. the verse five in the amplified version. So kill the

  125. evil desire lurking in your members, those animal pulses, and

  126. all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin.

  127. It makes us a little more powerful.

  128. Kill us.

  129. Verse six on an account of these. The wrath of

  130. God is coming in these. You two once walked when

  131. you were living in them, But now you must put

  132. them all away. Anger, wrath, mouice, slender, and an obscene

  133. talk from your mouth.

  134. So kill the evil desires within you. There's another question

  135. for you.

  136. Have you ever tried to rebuke the sin that you

  137. deal with?

  138. You ever just trying to rebuke it? What happens?

  139. It always reappears right, but it never really goes away.

  140. You cannot rebuke the cycle of sin in you.

  141. You have to kill it. You have to put it

  142. to death, You and I in Christ.

  143. That's our position, right, our position in Christ born again.

  144. We should reckon meaning it means to consider or to

  145. view ourselves as dead to sin, by putting to death

  146. the members of the body that cause us to sin.

  147. So we have to.

  148. Reckon our eyes as dead to sin. We have to

  149. reckon our hands as dead to sin. Wreckon your feet

  150. as dead to sin.

  151. Walk away from that which causes you to sin.

  152. And the King James version of verse five, the word

  153. mortify is used to mortify. Therefore your members which are

  154. upon the earth, and the word mortify, and the Greek

  155. means to make dead, make it dead.

  156. Hold you're getting with the picture what this is all

  157. about here?

  158. As we deal with sin in our life, you can't

  159. simply rebuke.

  160. It and tell it to lay down and leave you alone.

  161. You have to reckon yourself dead to it. And repentance

  162. and baptism. We died with Christ to sin. We leave

  163. the old life behind, and we are raised to new

  164. life in Christ Second Corinthians five seventeen. Therefore, if anyone

  165. is in Christ, he is a new creation.

  166. What does it say?

  167. The old is passed away and the new has come.

  168. So Paul wraps up Chapter five of Romans with verses

  169. twenty and twenty one, and he says this. He says,

  170. but where where sin increased, grace abounded all the more

  171. and arts glad, so that as sin reigned in death,

  172. grace also might reign through righteousness, leading to eternal life

  173. through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Is there any more important

  174. word in scripture than grace?

  175. We can, we can, We can come up with.

  176. A whole bunch of important words, right, But it's by grace.

  177. We were saved through faith.

  178. I don't know if any other important word that.

  179. We could put it at the top of the list

  180. than God's grace has, say death, Where would we be?

  181. Where would you and I be without the grace of God?

  182. And we would be bound by the letter of the

  183. Old Testament law, and we will be.

  184. Bound for hell right because we can't. We can't keep

  185. up with that standard.

  186. But the praise God. Where sin increased, grace abounded.

  187. All the more, leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ,

  188. our Lord. And the amplified version says that grace may

  189. multiply and overflow.

  190. You get to the picture here.

  191. Grace is is abundant, It overflows. Grace is more than

  192. your sin, whatever sin has been committed. Grace is more,

  193. Praise God. So grace abounds even as sin increases. Grace

  194. abounds and multiplies, it overflows. So see, if this has

  195. never been your mentality before, maybe you've heard it before.

  196. So if grace abounds more as sin increases, can't I

  197. just go on sinning that I might experience the abounding

  198. grace of God? Is that what Paul is saying. If

  199. grace abounds more than sin, won't I always be covered?

  200. And can't I just go.

  201. On sinning and sinning and sinning and sinning.

  202. So that the grace of God will be will be

  203. shown and cover my sin.

  204. Yeah. Chapter six, verses one and two.

  205. Why shall we say, then, says Paul, are we to

  206. continue in sin that grace may abound.

  207. Verse two? By no means? How can we who died

  208. to sin still live in it?

  209. And that's a great question that Paul, he asks emphatically.

  210. Grace multiplies it over why because sin is so rampant.

  211. That's why grace abounds all the more. Grace does not abound. Listen,

  212. Grace does not abound.

  213. To give us a green light to sin.

  214. More So, Paul asks, how can you.

  215. Continue in something that has been reckoned dead in.

  216. You, the Cross of Jesus. It's foolish.

  217. It's foolish to reason that I can still sin all

  218. I want because grace will always abound more than my sin.

  219. That's just that's stinking thinking, scookie talk.

  220. Our position in Christ is that we are dead to sin.

  221. That's our position as He was dead to sin, As

  222. Jesus died to sin, unresponsive to its temptations, so we

  223. also are dead to sin and should be unresponsive to

  224. its temptation.

  225. Li Verses three and four.

  226. Paul says, do you not know that all of us

  227. who have been baptized into Christ, Jesus were baptized into

  228. his death. We were buried therefore with him by baptism

  229. into death, in order that just.

  230. As Christ was raised from the dead.

  231. By the glory of the Father, we too might walk

  232. in newness of life.

  233. Praise God. Praise God.

  234. What a picture of death and the resurrection that we

  235. have in baptism. Baptism is our identification, Amen. Baptism is

  236. our identification with Jesus Christ. Jesus was buried in the

  237. ground that he rose again, and the outward sign that

  238. we give is baptism. We have chosen to identify with

  239. the death, burial.

  240. And resurrection of Jesus Christ. And listen to this.

  241. There are some people that have this next part wrong.

  242. Baptism. You're getting ahead of myself.

  243. We are not baptized into a denomination. Okay, We're not

  244. baptized into a denomination.

  245. We are baptized into Christ.

  246. We are not baptized to identify with the denomination. We

  247. are baptized to identify with Jesus Christ.

  248. Anything else is man made.

  249. Baptism is the funeral of your old self.

  250. All that I was as a sinful son of Adam

  251. was put to death at the cross of Jesus Christ.

  252. And now it is no longer I who live, but

  253. Christ lives in me.

  254. Amen. That's Galatians to twenty. I no longer live, but

  255. Christ lives in me and through me. Let's look at

  256. the verse five. For if we have been united.

  257. With Him in a death like his, he shall certainly

  258. be united with him in.

  259. A resurrection like his. What a great promise, you men.

  260. That's the key.

  261. If you want to be identified with Christ at his return,

  262. then you must identify with Him in his death, in

  263. repentance and death to sin.

  264. To walk in newness of life. So how do you

  265. how do you?

  266. How do you identify with Jesus in your life?

  267. How do you identify with Jesus? Are you saved? If yes,

  268. are you baptized?

  269. The waters of baptism do not save your soul, but

  270. they do represent.

  271. What has transpired in your life.

  272. The waters of baptism represent repentance, they represent death to

  273. your old self, and they represent the resurrection.

  274. To newness of life in Jesus Christ.

  275. It's powerful.

  276. It's not just a little simple thing we do to

  277. get wet or to write another name on the annual report.

  278. It's powerful. It's a powerful identification. It's a powerful practice.

  279. If you will to identify with Jesus. And if you

  280. are saved and you are not baptized, what is keeping

  281. you from identifying with Jesus Christ.

  282. In the waters of the baptism? What is keeping you

  283. from it?

  284. If that's your identity, If that's how you want to

  285. be identified and recognized as the follower.

  286. Of Jesus, how we do it?

  287. According to scripture, this is baptism. So as believers in Jesus,

  288. as Christians, should we should we put the abundance of

  289. grace on display by putting sin on display, knowing that

  290. because of grace we will.

  291. Be a forgiven I don't you think that's a stupid question.

  292. That's the mentality of people, right, And of course not.

  293. That's a slap in God's face.

  294. That's the ultimate abuse of God's indescribable gift of grace.

  295. So should we sin?

  296. No?

  297. We should not sin? Do we sin? Yes? We do? Yes,

  298. we do many times. As the alarm.

  299. Plot goes off, repentance should be quickly on our tongue.

  300. So what what do we do with the sin that

  301. makes its way into our lives. This has been a

  302. hard message so far, right, it's been there. It's been

  303. a hard message. The disciples told.

  304. Jesus that's a hard message. What are we going to

  305. do with it? Sin is something in our life. It

  306. has to be done with. It has to be Sin

  307. has to be killed. We have to put it to death.

  308. But what do we do with it? All right?

  309. Number one, I don't have this on the screen. If

  310. you want to write it down, you can. If you

  311. want to ask me about later, I'll be the lads

  312. who to provide this for you. What do we do

  313. with the sin that makes its way into our lives?

  314. Number one, We realize that the death, burial, and resurrection

  315. of Jesus covers all of our sin for all time, past, present,

  316. and future. Sins are covered Romans six'.

  317. Ten for the death he, died he died to sin

  318. once for All hebrews ten.

  319. Fourteen for by a single offering he has perfected for.

  320. All time and those who are being.

  321. Sanctified so realize that our sin is.

  322. Covered you repentive your. Sin you come To jesus in

  323. humility and call on his. Name you. Forgiveness it is,

  324. Complete it's. Done number, two.

  325. Live a life of daily, repentance not to be re

  326. saved every, day but to remain aligned with The word Of.

  327. God.

  328. Man and this is so important to keep The Holy

  329. spirit free flowing in your. Life what happens when you

  330. get a bunch of gunk down your drain at, Home

  331. it clogs it, up it it inhibits the free flow of.

  332. Water send us the same.

  333. Thing if we have unconfessed to sin in our lives

  334. and we just go on and on and, on and

  335. we never repent, it and we never come to The

  336. lord and, say, Oh i've messed. Up.

  337. LORD i don't want. TO i don't want. TO i

  338. want The Holy spirit to the.

  339. Fall freely in my life WHEN i come to The

  340. lord daily in.

  341. Repentance number, three die to sin every. Day temptation to

  342. sin comes every. Day remind yourself that In, christ you.

  343. Are not bound by sin. Anymore you are dead to

  344. it and you are alive In. Christ and number four

  345. remember this when you do sin and we all, do

  346. you have an. Advocate you have someone that's on your, side.

  347. Someone who has the, power someone who has the authority

  348. and the abounding grace to forgive you.

  349. No matter what you've.

  350. Done listen to What john says In First, John chapter,

  351. two verses one and.

  352. Two AND i love this because the heart.

  353. Of a, pastor the heart of a pastor comes through

  354. my little. CHILDREN i am writing these things to you

  355. so that you may not.

  356. Sin but if anyone does, sin we have an advocate

  357. with The, Father Jesus christ is the. Righteous he is.

  358. The propitiation for our, sins and not only for ours,

  359. only but also for the sins of the whole. World

  360. So paul gives us such a strong, message and that

  361. has to be. Strong you can't pet sin and, say good,

  362. boy just lay there and leave me.

  363. Alonge sin has to be put to. Death it has

  364. to be. Killed and that's the word That paul gives.

  365. Us don't take advantage Of god's grace by sinning, more

  366. because that's just foolish and it's. Reckless and Then john

  367. gives us a great, reminder as.

  368. A fatherly pastor, should and he, says you know, WHAT

  369. i hope you know.

  370. Sin whatever you, Do jesus is waiting to forgive you.

  371. Because his grace is offered in abundance.

  372. Far more than your. Sin. Amen let's Pray Heavenly, Father thank.

  373. YOU i thank you so, Much.

  374. Lord that your word gives us such strong warnings and,

  375. word this is one of the strongest. Ones don't, sin don't,

  376. sin don't, sin don't take advantage Of god's grace by

  377. sinning more.

  378. That grace may. Abound don't do.

  379. That that's the, reckless that's a slap in the face Of.

  380. God So, lord we should we should not. Sin we

  381. should be dead to.

  382. Sin we should reckon our bodies as dead to.

  383. Sin but we also Know lord that.

  384. That it's we're gonna. Fail we're gonna fail, often and

  385. sometimes we even do that on.

  386. Purpose so how can we continue.

  387. To do that which we have been reckoned? Dead So,

  388. lord my hope is that is that we would not.

  389. Sin but if we, do and when we, do we

  390. have an.

  391. Advocate we have one who has been through it, all

  392. who has been tempted in every way that we have been.

  393. Tempted, Yes, lord you never, Sinned.

  394. You were dead to, it and your only response to

  395. the temptation of sin was the word Of.

  396. God So, LORD i pray that today we would.

  397. We would live our lives according to the, spirit trusting

  398. you to strengthen.

  399. Us to help us to put it to. Death the

  400. sin in our.

  401. Life But, lord when we, fail when we.

  402. Mess, up we know that your, Grace we know that

  403. your grace.

  404. Abounds your grace is always greater than the sin that we.

  405. Commit thank, You.

  406. So, LORD i asked that you have your way in

  407. this place because we all need to deal with. Sin

  408. we all need to stop just telling it to leave

  409. us a, loan.

  410. And we need to kill. It we needed to put

  411. it to, death and we need to be reckoned dead.

  412. Man thank, You, lord And jesus saying. Amen thank you
