  22. We um have been experimenting by uh a

  24. declaration

  25. consecrating ourselves really for what

  26. God has for us in this space. So this is

  27. an hour that we set apart for God. So,

  28. what does it look like to begin our time

  29. giving ourselves to God and giving this

  30. space to God? If we can read this

  31. together, I think it it might be

  32. helpful. We are here to encounter the

  284. >> [music]

  285. >> Every week [music] we come to the table

  286. of Jesus.

  287. This table is more than just a ritual.

  288. It's a place where we encounter the

  289. living Christ, remember his [music]

  290. sacrifice, and proclaim his death and

  291. resurrection until he comes again. This

  292. table is a sacred space where heaven and

  293. earth meet. A place of grace [music]

  294. where all are invited to experience the

  295. presence of Christ. As we gather at the

  296. table, we remember that this is not our

  297. [music] table. It is the Lord's table.

  298. Jesus invites all who follow him to come

  299. not because we are worthy but because he

  300. has made a way through his [music] love

  301. and sacrifice. This is a table of grace

  302. open to all who trust in him. In [music]

  303. 1 Corinthians 11:es 23-26 we read from

  304. the Apostle Paul. For I receive from the

  305. Lord what I also passed [music] on to

  306. you. The Lord Jesus on the night he was

  307. betrayed took bread and when he had

  308. given thanks, he broke it and said,

  309. "This is my body which is for you. Do

  310. this in remembrance of me." In the same

  311. way, after supper, he took the cup,

  312. saying, "This cup is the new covenant in

  313. my blood. Do this whenever you drink it

  314. in remembrance of me. For whenever you

  315. eat this bread [music] and drink this

  316. cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until

  317. he comes."

  318. The table of Jesus is a place of unity.

  319. As we share in this meal, we remember

  320. that we are one body called to love one

  321. another as Christ [music] loves us.

  322. If there is anything that stands between

  323. you and a brother or sister, let this be

  324. a time to seek forgiveness and

  325. reconciliation.

  326. The table is a reminder that we are not

  327. alone. We are part of the family of God,

  328. joined together in his love. If the

  329. communion servers would please come

  330. forward to prepare your stations.

  331. In [music] a moment, I will invite you

  332. to come forward to receive the elements.

  333. Please come down these interior aisles

  334. and dip the gluten-free cracker into the

  335. grape juice. And you can exit out the

  336. outer aisles or you may take one of the

  337. prepackage elements [music] we have.

  338. The table is a reminder that we are not

  339. alone. We are part [music] of the family

  340. of God.

  341. As you dip the bread into the juice,

  342. remember the body of Christ broken for

  343. you and the blood of Christ shed for

  344. you. [music]

  345. Take a moment to confess, reflect, pray,

  346. and receive his grace as you partake. By

  347. sharing this meal, [music] we proclaim

  348. the mystery of our faith. Christ has

  349. died. Christ is risen, [music] and

  350. Christ will come again. This table is a

  351. foretaste of the great banquet that we

  352. will share with Christ in his kingdom.

  353. Until that day, we eat and [music] drink

  354. and hope, knowing that the same power

  355. that raised Jesus from the dead is at

  356. work in us. Let us [music] pray.

  357. Lord Jesus, we thank you for this meal

  358. that you have given us. We thank you for

  359. your [music] sacrifice, your presence,

  360. and the hope that you bring. As we share

  361. in this bread and [music] cup, may we be

  362. strengthened to live for you, united in

  363. your love, and filled with your spirit.

  364. Help us to be your hands and feet in the

  365. [music] world, proclaiming your gospel

  366. until you come again. In your name,

  367. Jesus, we pray. Amen. Please come to the

  368. table of Jesus.

  369. >> [music]

  370. >> I

  371. abide [music and singing]

  372. in you.

  373. I [music]

  374. [singing]

  375. abide

  376. in you.

  377. >> [music]

  378. >> I

  379. [singing] abide

  380. in [music] you.

  381. I

  382. [singing] abide [music]

  383. in you.

  384. [music]

  385. >> You have planted [singing]

  386. trees

  387. in the good soil of my heart.

  388. and know it's just [singing] a star.

  389. >> Give me patience. [music]

  390. Pour over [singing and music] these

  391. seeds.

  392. The water of your plants.

  393. My life is in [singing] your hands.

  394. My [singing and music] foundation

  395. strength,

  396. my strength [singing]

  397. is in you. [music] Oh

  398. my hope

  399. is in you. My [singing]

  400. life found in you.

  401. Strength,

  402. our strength [singing]

  403. is [music] in you. Hope [singing]

  404. our hope

  405. [music] is [singing] in you. Life,

  406. our life [music]

  407. found [singing] in you.

  408. Oh Lord, I thank you so much that

  409. everything we [music] need and

  410. everything we have comes from you, Lord.

  411. Our strength, our hope, everything,

  412. Lord, we found it in [music] you. I

  413. would like to invite you, if you're

  414. able, to stand with me as we say the

  415. Lord's Prayer together. It is on the

  416. [music] screen in English and in

  417. Spanish, but please feel free to say it

  418. in your heart language. Our [music]

  419. Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

  420. thy name, thy kingdom [music] come, thy

  421. will be done, on earth as it is in

  422. heaven. Give us [music] this day our

  423. daily bread, and forgive us our

  424. trespasses as we forgive those who

  425. trespass against us, and lead us not

  426. into temptation, but deliver [music] us

  427. from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and

  428. the power, and the glory forever and

  429. ever. Amen. Take a moment and greet a

  430. neighbor or refresh your coffee and

  431. we'll [music] be back in a few moments

  432. with announcements.

  433. [music]

  434. >> Thank you guys.

  435. >> Need coffee.

  436. and

  437. all the cross I must confess.

  438. Confess.

  439. [music]

  440. I wonder your redeeming [singing]

  441. love and how great is your faithfulness.

  442. At the cross you beckon me.

  443. You draw me gently

  444. to my knees and I lost so lost in love.

  445. I'm sweetly broken.

  446. Holy surrender

  447. at the cross. You You be me.

  448. You draw [music] me gently

  449. to my knees. I am lost for a soul. Lost

  450. in love. I am sweetly [music] broken.

  451. Holy surrender.

  452. Yeah.

  453. I'm broken for you.

  454. I'm broken

  455. for you.

  456. Jesus

  457. love is there.

  458. I am [music] sweetly broken.

  459. [music]

  460. morning. Good morning.

  461. If you could slowly start making your

  462. way back to your seats,

  463. that would be awesome.

  464. Good morning.

  465. Welcome. Welcome this morning. It was so

  466. good to see everybody chatting and

  467. enjoying each other's company on this

  468. weird day in between Christmas and New

  469. Year's where we don't really know what

  470. day it is. If not for Sunday, we

  471. wouldn't know what day it is. But we're

  472. so glad you chose to worship with us

  473. whether here in person or online. Um if

  474. I didn't share my name yet, my name is

  475. Arita and I'm happy to welcome you this

  476. morning. If this is your first time

  477. visiting with us, we have a welcome bag

  478. for you. If you didn't already receive

  479. one, please make sure you grab one on

  480. your way out. Um, inside this bag is

  481. some information about the vineyard

  482. movement, Jesus, um, some more

  483. information about our church, as

  484. [snorts] well as something we call a

  485. mana bag. So, this is our gift to you

  486. for you to give away. And we do have

  487. extras on the back table, but oftentimes

  488. as we're driving about the city, we

  489. encounter people who are in need. And we

  490. would like to extend um, a practical way

  491. to extend God's love to our neighbors as

  492. we're driving around. And so, feel free

  493. to take this with you and keep it in

  494. your car and pass it out as you see fit.

  495. This is a great way again to share the

  496. love of Christ with our neighbors in a

  497. practical way. Also, in our welcome bag,

  498. we have a connect card. You can fill us

  499. out the paper form or you can fill it

  500. out online. Um either way, whatever

  501. information you share, we promise we

  502. won't sell it or anything like that. If

  503. you give your email address, we'll add

  504. you to our newsletter that we send out

  505. periodically about what's going on in

  506. the life of the church. And just a

  507. simple welcome email. And then if you

  508. share your mailing address, Pastor John

  509. will send you a thank you note in the

  510. mail. just this little getting real

  511. snail mail is exciting sometimes. So

  512. feel free to share what you wish. Um and

  513. you can put this in the giving basket in

  514. a few moments or you can put it bring

  515. this to the back table at the end of the

  516. service. On the back side of the connect

  517. card is a prayer request card. This is

  518. for anyone who wants to fill out prayer

  519. request. Every Tuesday we have a team of

  520. people that pray for the needs of our

  521. community. And if you have a prayer

  522. request or a praise or anything like

  523. that that you would like the church to

  524. know about and pray for, you can even be

  525. anonymous. we'd be happy to pray for

  526. you. So, feel free again to put that in

  527. the giving baskets in a few moments or

  528. you can give it to the at the welcome

  529. table at the end of the service. We have

  530. a couple of quick announcements um this

  531. morning. Um you all if you don't have

  532. one of these on your chair, there are

  533. more on the welcome table, but this is

  534. some information about what's going on

  535. in the next two months here in the life

  536. of Mission Vineyard. One of the benefits

  537. of uh our movement vineyard USA having

  538. events in New Bronals is that people

  539. come in to San Antonio to go to said new

  540. events in New Bronals and then they want

  541. to come to our church. So we have a

  542. couple of national leaders that are

  543. going to be with us in February and in

  544. January for different reasons. And so

  545. they'll be here on Sunday mornings and

  546. doing other events um throughout the

  547. week. So, there's some information on

  548. the air about that as well as our sermon

  549. series, small groups that are coming up

  550. and restarting.

  551. Um, and next Sunday,

  552. we are having a postchurch

  553. servant appreciation party. We're

  554. calling an Epiphany party. Um, for those

  555. who don't know, Christmas actually goes

  556. from Christmas Day through January 6,

  557. which is Epiphany, the day that we

  558. celebrate um the wise men bringing the

  559. gifts to Jesus. And instead of adding to

  560. the holiday busyiness by adding another

  561. Christmas party for Mission Vineyard in

  562. December, we celebrate you, the church,

  563. the gift that you are to this body by um

  564. our pastoral team, um our staff team, uh

  565. serving you um as a token of our

  566. appreciation for how you serve our

  567. community. And you're like, "Wait, I

  568. don't actually serve at this church."

  569. You're still welcome to the lunch. So,

  570. we're going to have it here after church

  571. next Sunday. We will be providing the

  572. lunch. The kids will come down from

  573. their class and we'll all have a lovely

  574. meal together. um celebrating you and

  575. also inviting you to serve in the coming

  576. year if you are interested. But whether

  577. you've served communion or greeted

  578. people at the door or helped pick up

  579. signs, every single part um of what

  580. happens here on a Sunday morning and

  581. during the week, whether it's hosting,

  582. leading small group, attending prayer

  583. meetings, all of that stuff really is um

  584. valuable to the life of this body. And

  585. so we want to say thank you. So that's

  586. next Sunday after church. If you haven't

  587. received the email invitation, let me

  588. know and I'll make sure that it gets in

  589. your inbox so we can have the right

  590. headcount for food. But that's next

  591. Sunday here in this room after church.

  592. I'm going to ask the people who are

  593. passing the giving baskets to come

  594. forward, please. I'm going to pray for

  595. the giving and the rest of the service.

  596. Heavenly Father, [sighs] I thank you.

  597. I thank you, Lord, for just the way you

  598. move, the places that we see you and the

  599. places that we don't. and we wait for

  600. you Lord. I pray Lord that every penny

  601. that is given to Mission Vine will be

  602. used for your kingdom work in us and

  603. through us. I pray Lord that you would

  604. [clears throat] fill John with your his

  605. with your Holy Spirit Lord um as he

  606. prepares to lead us in the sermon this

  607. morning. I pray all this in Jesus name.

  608. Amen.

  609. Well, it's coming to the end of 2025.

  610. I wrote the date 2026 the other day and

  611. it kind of freaked me out like I was

  612. wrong, but it's it's coming and it's

  613. here. And one of the things that we

  614. don't often do because I don't know, we

  615. like going on to the next fun thing,

  616. right? Next fun thing, next fun thing.

  617. But we as a church, I think uh our

  618. mission is to welcome Jesus into all of

  619. life. So what would it look like at the

  620. end of the year to take a moment and

  621. welcome Jesus into our memories as a

  622. church? What does it look like? And I

  623. know we did some of this over

  624. Thanksgiving, but I wanted to maybe even

  625. do it again. What would it look like to

  626. make time to say what God had done for

  627. me through the local church? And so, I

  628. have somebody that wrote in and somebody

  629. else that signed up, but get ready. I'm

  630. going to leave an awkward amount of

  631. silence for some of you to come up. And

  632. if you do want to share what has God

  633. done for me through this local church,

  634. we'd love to hear it from you. So, I'm

  635. going to read one and then David, would

  636. you come up? Where are you, David? Yeah,

  637. David, I want I want you to be ready to

  638. come up, my friend.

  639. Um, Amanda McMullen, John and Amanda are

  640. serving in the kids ministry upstairs

  641. today. And Amanda emailed me. She said,

  642. "I can't talk because I'll be upstairs."

  643. But she wanted to say this.

  644. God has been faithful in showing us the

  645. beauty of community from investing more

  646. time in the little kids ministry

  647. recently planning the yearly curriculum

  648. with Berkeley. Berkeley is our kids

  649. director and hosting worship at our

  650. house. There's a a worship night that's

  651. happening on Saturday nights multiple

  652. times every month now. He's been

  653. faithful to the word we received about

  654. why we were supposed to be at Mission

  655. Vineyard in the first place. the

  656. relationships.

  657. I'm so blessed by everyone we know and

  658. have met, parents, children, regular

  659. members, and those passing through. I'm

  660. blessed by the prayers I receive from

  661. others and even the prayers I pray for

  662. others. I'm grateful to attend church

  663. where everyone gets to play. Sort of a

  664. motto around here, everyone gets to play

  665. because it's invited us to collaborate

  666. with God in new spaces like kids

  667. ministry and worship. I thank God for

  668. Mission Vineyard, its genuine leaders,

  669. humble congregants. We are so blessed

  670. and we wanted to say thank you. And

  671. thank you to Amanda and John serving

  672. upstairs with their kids. David, I asked

  673. for the congregation 90 testimonies.

  674. Come on up. Would you just share with us

  675. what's God done? It's been a year, man.

  676. It's been a year you've been engaged in

  677. the church this year. What's it been

  678. like? What's God been doing in you

  679. vineyard? main thing is love. Um, God

  680. has been showing me over the years you

  681. need to love people. My last job, I had

  682. a bully, a boss. He did bad things, said

  683. horrible things to the older ladies and

  684. uh, legally and the right thing. I dealt

  685. with them respectfully and um, it just

  686. messed up.

  687. I didn't do nothing wrong, but and when

  688. I came here, I kept on hearing the

  689. scriptures, love your neighbor. So, my

  690. new job, I was being very badly treated

  691. by a couple employees, real bad, like

  692. very disrespectful.

  693. And uh I just told one lady, "Hey, I'm

  694. just going to love you. I'm just going

  695. to pray for you in Jesus name." Okay.

  696. And the other employee was like, "What

  697. the heck? David tripping." And then the

  698. other lady came up to me, has been there

  699. 20 years. It's a small company. She

  700. blasted me. I made a mistake. She

  701. blasted me. So, I was like, "I'm fired.

  702. God, I'm fired. I've only been there

  703. five months. I'm fired because they fire

  704. people left and right. They don't care.

  705. You know, it's just they can do whatever

  706. they want. We're in Texas at will. And I

  707. just let her yell at me. I let her blast

  708. me. I just kept on saying, "I got to

  709. love her. I just got to love her. I hate

  710. what she's doing. I got to love her."

  711. And everything changed in the whole

  712. place. It was amazing. I was like, "Wow,

  713. God." There's times to engage on people,

  714. but that love is the most powerful

  715. thing. So, as I stay here, I'm learning

  716. that God's showing me the world's very

  717. hateful. They respond more to anger,

  718. meanness, toughness,

  719. warriors,

  720. but love's the answer. And if we have to

  721. take a few hits, uh, I didn't believe

  722. that before. It's worth it. It's very

  723. important because God loves people all

  724. the way to hell. They go to hell. A lot

  725. of people go to hell. They're not going

  726. to make it. But he loves them. and he's

  727. been teaching me if you're in my

  728. kingdom, my second most important

  729. commandment is love thy neighbor as

  730. thyself. So I said, "Okay, God, you're

  731. gonna have to help me do it." And it's

  732. it's getting better. Makes better

  733. health, better peace in your mind.

  734. Doesn't change people. Doesn't stop the

  735. things they say or do to you sometimes,

  736. but it does make a big difference.

  737. Let me pray for you. Lord Jesus, thank

  738. you for David and for the love that

  739. you've shown him. I pray for more God at

  740. work and at home as he pours out love.

  741. Fill him with your love, more of your

  742. love, God, and let this community be a

  743. place where he gets filled with your

  744. love. Ask in Jesus name. Amen. Thank

  745. you, David. You too.

  746. [applause]

  747. Anyone else? Awkward silence now until

  748. somebody raises up and grabs this

  749. microphone.

  750. In 2025, what has it been like to be in

  751. this church? How have you experienced

  752. God's love? Ashley.

  753. >> Um, even though I've only been here for

  754. the last few months of this year, um,

  755. I'm just seeing how much God has placed

  756. us directly here and his hand has been

  757. upon us this very tough really year and

  758. a half. Um, and I feel like this is home

  759. and this is family already. And um, I

  760. have struggled in times past to make

  761. friends. And when we left church a

  762. couple weeks ago, Chris was like, "Man,

  763. I had no idea you had so many friends in

  764. church." And I was like, "It's because

  765. God is working and moving in that." And

  766. so, I just wanted to thank everyone here

  767. for being so loving and kind to us and

  768. allowing us to step into this tight

  769. community and feel like we've been here

  770. all the years you've had the church

  771. here. So, thank you.

  772. >> Let me pray for you. Jesus, thank you so

  773. much for the friendships that you're

  774. making and uh God, for the family that

  775. you've made for Ashley and Chris and

  776. their whole family. Continue to bless

  777. them in community, Lord, that their home

  778. would be a place of that kind of

  779. friendship and love. Uh and continue to

  780. do that here at Mission Vineyard in

  781. Jesus name. Amen. Thanks, Ashley.

  782. >> Yeah. Come on up, Christine.

  783. As the dium opens, we can hear them

  784. announcing,

  785. >> "Hello, my name is Christine Seir and um

  786. I'm from San Antonio. I moved up north

  787. to Maryland DC area for 25 years." And

  788. then my son said, "Time to come home."

  789. And I said, "I can't come home. I have a

  790. church family here. I I belong. We do

  791. things, you know, we have so much fun

  792. with each other. We we're like brothers

  793. and sisters." And I thought, "I'll never

  794. find that in San Antonio. It's never

  795. been like that for me." So I come back

  796. and I'm looking on on I I had to go to

  797. church. So I look I Googled it and I

  798. said closest church to me. So I walk in

  799. here. I'm sitting down in this sermon.

  800. What does John say? We're a doing

  801. church. And I thought, "Oh, that's what

  802. I was going to be missing from my other

  803. churches." So I I just came in and we

  804. started doing things and he includes me

  805. included me in everything. Whatever you

  806. want to do, you do. You know, you help

  807. out. And it's been my whole life. It

  808. just it gave me friends right away. And

  809. uh it's it just it brings joy to my

  810. heart just to be able to say, you know,

  811. that I love each and every one of you.

  812. It's fantastic to greet you in the

  813. mornings. So, thank you, Mission

  814. Vineyard, for accepting me.

  815. [applause]

  816. >> So, Lord Jesus, more of that on

  817. Christine. Just more of your uh your

  818. spirit. She wants to do so much, God.

  819. Thank you for continuing to heal her and

  820. for giving her your spirit as she greets

  821. other people. We bless her in Jesus

  822. name. Amen. Thanks, Christine.

  823. 90 seconds. Robert, can you keep it in?

  824. >> You're great. You're great.

  825. >> Uh, for those of you guys don't know, my

  826. wife and I, Haley, have been coming here

  827. for the last few months. And, uh, I've

  828. known John for well over a decade, which

  829. is crazy to think about now. Um, but

  830. when we first got married, uh, Haley had

  831. some past things of where it's like we

  832. both wanted to be in church, but also

  833. like we both have been hurt by different

  834. churches in the past. And so whenever we

  835. started looking and we're like, "Okay,

  836. well, what are we going to do? What do

  837. we want to look like? What kind of

  838. church?" And I was like, you know, I

  839. know who is like someone that God has

  840. placed like in my heart and in my life

  841. who like he is a safe space for anyone

  842. and everyone. And so we talked about it

  843. and I said, "Well, why don't we just

  844. check out Mission Vineyard? Like let's

  845. go check it out. We'll go talk to John."

  846. And in doing that, Haley has like had so

  847. much like love and care from everybody

  848. as we expect our newborn, our first

  849. child. Um, and not just prayer healing,

  850. not just community healing, but just

  851. such a phenomenal community that God has

  852. placed in our lives that has been so

  853. supportive and so loving. But also like

  854. we wanted to strengthen our marriage to

  855. make sure because we heard so much stuff

  856. of like whenever you have your first

  857. born that you're gonna go through all

  858. this stuff and like John and our leader

  859. took time to like really pour into our

  860. marriage and like gave us stuff to have

  861. supportive things. We have supportive

  862. families here who have like taken time.

  863. We just moved and I hadn't even met

  864. Emily really. I don't think we ever

  865. talked but she literally took time to

  866. help us move. This community has been so

  867. [clears throat]

  868. so good to us

  869. and God has been so good to us. So,

  870. thank you guys all so much for caring

  871. and for loving and to really show us

  872. God's love here.

  873. I know it's been a while since I've

  874. grown. [laughter]

  875. >> Lord Jesus, thank you for Robert and

  876. Haley and their child come. Thank you

  877. for the love that we experienced. Lord,

  878. we ask for more.

  879. God, thank you for the love of 2025.

  880. Fill them with your love. Fill their

  881. home with your love, their new home. We

  882. pray for beautiful delivery,

  883. beautiful

  884. beginning of child coming into their

  885. family. Come Holy Spirit, fill them

  886. aresh in Jesus name. Amen.

  887. >> Wow.

  888. Wow.

  889. I I guess we could keep going. Um,

  890. I uh sorry, I just sometimes just feel

  891. like I need to wait for a second.

  892. Sometimes God does more and we wait.

  893. When I was in high school, I was in a

  894. fantastic small group. Thankfully, I I I

  895. grew up in the church and uh because of

  896. that, I had men around me that helped me

  897. uh learn the scripture and I remembered

  898. I memorized a couple different

  899. scriptures, but one became my favorite

  900. of all. It's Lamentations 3:22 and 23.

    Lamentations 3:22

  901. What I don't often remember is what

  902. leads up to it. And I felt like as we

  903. waited,

  904. um the Lord wanted me to share just a

  905. little bit from my heart what my heart

  906. has been like.

  907. and uh

  908. what it's meant for me to be in this

  909. church in 2025.

  910. Lamentations is a is a book that uh well

  911. to lament means to just go this is

  912. horrible.

  913. And so Lamentations 3 is full of that.

  914. Uh he has shot his arrows deep into my

  915. heart. My own people laugh at me all day

  916. long. They sing their mocking songs.

  917. This is like if you if you wanted to

  918. open up the scriptures and get like the

  919. encouraging word of the day, this is not

  920. where you should open up your Bible, you

  921. know, if you're playing, you know, Bible

  922. roulette or whatever you want to call

  923. it. Uh my own people laugh at me. God,

  924. this is not what I needed today. He's

  925. filled me with bitterness, gave me a cup

  926. of bitter sorrow to drink. He's made me

  927. chew on gravel, rolled me in the dust.

  928. Peace has been stripped away, and I have

  929. forgotten what prosperity is. I CRY OUT,

  930. "MY SPLENDOR IS GONE. EVERYTHING I HAD

  931. HOPED FOR FROM THE LORD IS LOST." AMEN.

  932. THANKFULLY, and I'm I'm a pretty

  933. dramatic guy. Thankfully, the scripture

  934. is always more dramatic than I am

  935. through the Psalms, through

  936. lamentations. And so, God says, "Yeah,

  937. you know, your life, you think it's so

  938. bad, it's really not compared."

  939. But verse 19 starts like this. And and I

  940. I think for me, I'd want to read it to

  941. you, church, as your pastor in thinking

  942. about 2025.

  943. The thought of my suffering and

  944. homelessness is beyond words. I'll never

  945. forget this awful time as I grieve over

  946. my loss. Yet, I still dare to hope when

  947. I remember this. The faithful love of

  948. the Lord never ends. His mercies never

  949. cease.

  950. The faithful love of the Lord never

  951. ends. His mercies never cease. Church,

  952. that's what it's been like for me to be

  953. at Mission Vineyard this year. That's

  954. why I'm thankful for you because the

  955. faithful love of the Lord has never

  956. ended through you all. His mercies has

  957. never ceased through you all. Great is

  958. his faithfulness. The scripture says,

  959. his mercies begin aresh every morning. I

  960. say to myself, the Lord is my

  961. inheritance. Therefore, I will hope in

  962. him. The Lord is good to those who

  963. depend on him, to those who search for

  964. him. So, it's good to wait quietly for

  965. salvation from the Lord.

  966. It's good. It's good to wait.

  967. 2025 in this church has been a year

  968. where you go, "Oh, Lord, again, another

  969. loss."

  970. We had a building that was donated to us

  971. for three years and we had to move out.

  972. We had mentor pastors who were

  973. journeyied with us for nine years and

  974. they moved away.

  975. One thing after another after another,

  976. we had someone in our congregation pass

  977. away and another family deal with the

  978. loss of a child.

  979. Over and over again, we think, God, why?

  980. Why? What are you doing? What are you

  981. doing?

  982. And it's good to wait patiently for the

  983. Lord. Because of the Lord's great love,

  984. we're not consumed. For his compassions

  985. never fail. They're new every morning.

  986. Great is thy faithfulness.

  987. It's been that church for me.

  988. And so I want to dig into the scripture

  989. today. We've we've been planning on this

  990. scripture all year long that we would

  991. end the year like this. And so I want to

  992. engage the scripture with you from

  993. Isaiah chapter 9. But if you don't

    Isaiah 9 chapter mention

  994. remember anything from today, what I

  995. want you to remember, what I'd love for

  996. you to leave with is God brings his

  997. greatest light from our darkest places.

  998. God brings his greatest light from our

  999. darkest places. God is good.

  1000. God is good.

1001. Jesus is born and we remember that he's

1002. the light. But not just that, he planned

1003. on being the light and he had prophets

1004. speak to this. This is Isaiah chapter 9

    Isaiah 9 chapter mention

1005. beginning in verse one. And again, we've

1006. dealt with this already in Thanksgiving,

1007. but I thought it'd be good to engage it

  1008. again.

1009. If I can open up my notes correctly.

1010. That's okay. I'll read from the screen.

1011. It'll be better for everybody, I think.

1012. Nevertheless, that time of darkness and

1013. despair will not go on forever. The land

1014. of Zebulun and Nahali will be humbled.

1015. But there will be a time in the future

1016. when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies

1017. along the road that runs between the

1018. Jordan and the Sea, will be filled with

1019. glory. Now, this sounds like probably

1020. what you'd expect out of the Lord of the

  1021. Rings.

1022. Anybody ever seen The Lord of the Rings?

1023. Read the Lord of the Rings?

1024. That language actually comes from

1025. scriptures. This kind of prophetic

1026. language scripture of what's happening

1027. in towns and cities far away. and the

1028. towns and cities that they're talking

1029. about here. This is Isaiah and he's

1030. writing from Jerusalem or around there.

1031. And he's writing about areas of Israel

1032. in the north that are being conquered by

  1033. the Assyrians,

  1034. been torn apart.

1035. And those two names, the land of Zebulun

1036. and Naphali, are names of the tribes of

1037. Israel, two tribes of Israel that got

  1038. their inheritance up there.

1039. But they're getting destroyed. And so

1040. Isaiah hears from the Lord that their

1041. destruction is not the end of the story.

1042. You hear me? What this scripture is

1043. about is that God always has a plan when

  1044. we see destruction.

1045. God always has a plan when we see

1046. destruction. So, nevertheless, that time

1047. of darkness and despair that's happening

1048. in those tribal areas, in those uh

  1049. northern territories of Israel

1050. will not go on forever. The land of

1051. Zebulun and Napali will be humbled. But

1052. there will be a time in the future when

1053. Galilee of the Gentiles, Galilee is up

1054. there and of the Gentiles, who would

1055. think that this is the land of of

1056. Israel, but the land of the Gentiles,

1057. those who are not Jews, those who are

1058. not generally included in God's

  1059. inheritance. There'll be a time when

  1060. they

1061. who runs along the road between the

1062. Jordan and the Sea will be filled with

  1063. glory.

1064. God's glory is going to fall upon

1065. everybody even though they have fallen

  1066. under destruction. So, you've got a

1067. sheet in front of you in order to

1068. process all this. And I'd ask you when

1069. you look in the 2025 rearview mirror,

  1070. what do you see?

1071. What are the places of loss that you

1072. see? What are the places that you wish

  1073. could have been better?

1074. The scripture that God is welcoming us

1075. into today are saying that the people

1076. who walk in darkness will see a great

  1077. light.

1078. How do you see light

  1079. when you're in darkness?

1080. I love I'm getting suggestions from the

  1081. audience. Close your eyes.

1082. The the picture I had of this week was

1083. of a of a side view mirror.

1084. I I don't know if you know what it says

1085. in a side view mirror. Typically, the

  1086. objects may appear

  1087. or objects are

1088. closer than they may appear.

  1089. And I think oftentimes

1090. it's not just what's happened in our

1091. lives in 2025, but it's also the

1092. spiritual battle that goes on with what

1093. happens in our history. Any of you all

1094. ever remember something and it's really

1095. not that big of a deal, especially

1096. because you live in Jesus and Jesus has

1097. your life. Like there really shouldn't

1098. be anything that conquers over you.

1099. But sometimes, and I don't know about

1100. you, it's it's when I wake up in the

1101. morning, an idea or a memory will come

1102. to mind and it will just try to conquer

1103. me. Have you ever felt that way?

  1104. Anybody?

1105. Where a memory of the past that

1106. shouldn't conquer over you all of a

1107. sudden tries to conquer you.

1108. Sometimes I think the enemy tries to

1109. make the rear view mirror appear bigger

  1110. than it is.

  1111. And we lose sight

1112. of Jesus being in our life which is

1113. actually greater than what we can see.

1114. We often don't see how great Jesus has

1115. been in making new things in the midst

1116. of the darkness. For those who live in a

1117. land of deep darkness, a light will

  1118. shine

1119. in Jesus. Those things that we thought

1120. would conquer us don't actually conquer

1121. us. And so he continues, if you can keep

1122. going, Elena, I appreciate you leading

1123. my scripture today. You will enlarge the

1124. nation of Israel. Its people will

1125. rejoice. They'll rejoice before you as

1126. people rejoice at the harvest. And like

1127. warriors dividing plunder, imagine if

1128. you were one of those people that won

1129. that big lottery. How much was it? $1.5

1130. billion or something like that.

1131. How much would you celebrate? This is

1132. this is the example that Isaiah is

1133. giving here. It is AS IF YOU GOD'S

1134. GLORY, HIS LIGHT WILL SHINE IN THE

1135. DARKNESS AS IF YOU WON $1.8 BILLION AND

1136. YOU JUST WANTED TO THROW IT at

  1137. everybody.

1138. You get a thousand. You get It's like

1139. Mr. Beast in a line of cars to say,

1140. "Hey, you get a thousand. You get a

1141. thousand. You get a thousand." I used to

1142. use an Oprah reference and then I

1143. realized how old I was.

1144. When light comes in the darkness,

1145. it is as if you won the lottery because

1146. all of a sudden those dark places that

1147. used to conquer you get blown up. For

1148. you will break the yoke of their slavery

1149. and lift the heavy burden from their

1150. shoulders. You will break the

1151. oppressor's rod just as you did when you

1152. destroyed the army of Midian. The boots

1153. of the warrior, the uniforms of

1154. bloodstained war will all be burned.

1155. You ever had an old girlfriend and you

  1156. needed to burn everything?

1157. This is about as close as we can get to

  1158. that.

1159. Imagine all those battles that you had

1160. and everything that you had

1161. rem reminding of you of those battles.

1162. For them, it was literal battle and

1163. their clothes were filled with the blood

1164. of that battle. All of a sudden, Isaiah

1165. says, "It's not going to be like that.

1166. You won't be remembering that bloodshed

  1167. anymore. Burn them all.

1168. I'm making you brand new.

1169. For a child is born to us, a son is

1170. given to us. The government will rest on

1171. his shoulders. And he will be called,

1172. and I love this name, wonderful

  1173. counselor, mighty God, everlasting

1174. father, prince of peace." It's all one

1175. word. It's all one name. It's on your

1176. sheet so you can have it forever.

1177. Basically saying God is the counselor

1178. that takes us out of the darkness,

  1179. gives us light,

1180. destroys all the things that remind us

  1181. of those old things,

1182. and then leads us by his counsel into

  1183. hope.

1184. Now, I don't know about you, but

1185. sometimes I like to lead myself into

1186. hope without God. And I usually do that

1187. by distracting myself. And usually it

1188. has to do with spending money. Anybody

  1189. else?

1190. In 2025, you may have made some

1191. mistakes. And some of it may have been

1192. because you've tried to counsel yourself

1193. out of a place of hurt. And sometimes

1194. you haven't invited Jesus into that. And

1195. God wants to tell you today, he is the

  1196. wonderful counselor, mighty God,

1197. everlasting father, prince of peace that

1198. takes you from the places of

1199. discouragement into hope. He is the

  1200. light in the darkness.

1201. And his government, his rule and reign

1202. over you is different than your own rule

1203. and reign over your own heart. You don't

1204. have to work anything up. He comes with

1205. his peace and he leads

1206. and the throne of his ancestor David for

1207. all of eternity. He will rule with

  1208. justice and fairness.

1209. The passionate commitment of the Lord's

1210. heaven's armies will do this. So this

  1211. prophecy which is 700ish

1212. BC is talking about Jesus.

1213. Do you know where Jesus was from? Where

  1214. his family was from?

1215. that land that was conquered by the

  1216. Assyrians.

1217. Isaiah is talking about a time of

  1218. darkness. They're getting conquered.

1219. There's destruction all over them. But

1220. God's giving him a word. The savior of

1221. all salvation, of all people, of people

1222. included in covenant, not included in

1223. covenant. Everybody's going to be saved

1224. by someone who comes from your land of

  1225. destruction.

1226. I wonder church what it would look like.

1227. I think God's looking for people who are

  1228. willing to believe

1229. that he can bring amazing things out of

1230. the destruction of the past. I think

1231. God's looking for people who are willing

1232. to hope and believe that he's a good God

1233. even though we've experienced less than

1234. what we think is good.

1235. An extraordinary counselor is the

1236. warrior God. John Golden Gay is a

1237. theologian. He says the name makes some

1238. declarations about God. The warrior God

1239. is an extraordinary counselor or

1240. planner. That is Yahweh is an expert at

1241. determining what the future should bring

1242. and seeing that it does so. And Yahweh

1243. is capable of making plans that bring

1244. about vents, events that one would never

1245. have guessed. Church, do you want events

1246. to happen in your life that are so good

1247. and so well led that you would have

1248. never guessed that they could have ever

1249. happened? This is what God can do.

  1250. It's easy. It's easy. It's easy to get

  1251. discouraged because whatever has

1252. happened in this past year feels like it

1253. has conquered you and you feel like you

  1254. are at a negative.

1255. God is looking for people that are

1256. willing to look at the negative with him

1257. and say, "Would you let me give you hope

  1258. and a future?

1259. Would you let me be a good God that is

1260. able to bring light from the darkness?"

1261. Jesus, this is John verse uh uh chapter

1262. 8:12, he spoke to the people once more.

1263. He says, "I am the light of the world.

1264. If you follow me, you won't have to walk

1265. in darkness because you will have the

1266. light that leads to life. And so, I'm

1267. sorry, church, there will not be a list

1268. of things that you can do in order to

1269. have life in your life or light in your

1270. life. The thing that God does not let us

1271. off the hook with is going along with a

1272. plan that we can do on our own. He

1273. requires that we walk with him. And it's

  1274. good.

1275. It's good that we walk with him. It's

1276. good that we don't walk alone in our own

1277. plans. If you follow me, you will have

1278. the light that leads to life. And if

1279. that's true, church, Psalm 27 says this,

1280. "The Lord is my light and my salvation."

1281. So why should I be afraid? I am not

1282. afraid of 2026, church. Because God is a

1283. good God and he has bring light into the

  1284. darkness.

1285. The light shines in the darkness and the

1286. darkness can never extinguish it. The

1287. one who is the true light who gives

1288. light to the world is Jesus and he's

  1289. here.

1290. And so I want to encourage you that the

1291. light has come to our darkest places.

1292. Where have you given up hope? Where are

1293. you most discouraged? Where do you feel

1294. the most conquered? Where have you felt

1295. your worst? Where do you carry the most

  1296. fear?

  1297. Welcome Jesus right there.

1298. And would you trust God's plan for your

1299. life? What would it look like to welcome

1300. an extraordinary counselor, the warrior,

1301. God, the everlasting father is an

1302. officer for well-being to help you

1303. instead of helping yourself? What would

1304. it look like to allow God to direct you

1305. this year? Where are you making plans,

1306. but you haven't asked for God's advice?

1307. Where have you lost imagination for what

  1308. God could do?

  1309. And then finally,

1310. if the light has come and he's leading

1311. you, what is the story of deliverance?

1312. What if the cross could be bigger in our

1313. side view mirror than our fears?

  1314. When I look back

1315. on my life and I remember how much the

1316. cross has covered, I remember a lot of

  1317. sin.

  1318. I remember a lot of wounding.

  1319. I remember a lot of hurt.

  1320. Here's my trouble. And I don't know if

1321. you you struggle with this at all. I

1322. want the new programming of God's

1323. salvation and his light to work for me.

  1324. But sometimes I don't want to work. I

1325. don't want it to work for the people

  1326. that have hurt me.

1327. I want the new programming for me. Thank

1328. you, Lord. I live in your forgiveness,

1329. the cross over my life. I don't have to

1330. worry about my sin anymore. You've

1331. forgiven me. Even all the bad things

1332. I've done, God, thank you so much. I'm

1333. free. Except for that person from my

1334. past that I still hold anger against.

1335. Sometimes we're okay with light in our

1336. own life as long as we can hold darkness

  1337. over another light.

1338. And the truth is, if light's going to

1339. operate in our lives, it must operate in

  1340. their lives, too.

1341. What would it look like to extend the

1342. same grace that God has given you? the

1343. big cross in the rearview mirror that's

1344. actually larger than it appears

1345. over the lives who maybe have brought

1346. you hurt this past year. What would it

1347. look like to extend light out?

1348. And maybe not just to them. What would

1349. it look like for a friend and neighbor

1350. not to hear about how wonderful your

1351. church is or how wonderful your

1352. Instagram is or how wonderful you've

1353. served the homeless? It's wonderful. But

1354. what the cross has covered over your

1355. life and the freedom that it's given

1356. you, the goodness of God in your life.

1357. What would that look like?

1358. Well, I'm going to invite Steve. He's

1359. stopped being Santa today, but I like

1360. the green shirt. No more hat. At our

1361. church, uh, every week we have a prayer

1362. team that prays before the church

1363. service in hope that God would bring

1364. light into the darkness. And so we

  1365. intentionally

1366. take a risk for what God might want to

1367. do, how he might want to pray. Uh I I

1368. we don't always do this, but I want to

1369. stay with you in this. I feel like God

1370. might want to do something in in the

1371. midst of this prayer time to deliver

  1372. people.

1373. >> But there's some words that they wrote

1374. down in faith that God might be wanting

1375. to pray for one of you. So Steve, would

1376. you talk to us about that?

  1377. >> Yes. Yes.

1378. And by the way, something uh I heard a

1379. teacher uh this this week where he said

1380. uh you know when we're facing a bunch of

  1381. opposition

  1382. um

  1383. maybe that's because we're going the

1384. right way. The enemy doesn't want us.

  1385. Maybe it's a sign that we're going the

1386. right way. The enemy opposes us. if

1387. everything's going well or going

  1388. smoothly,

1389. uh maybe we're going his way.

1390. So, that was an interesting thought.

  1391. >> Yeah.

1392. >> As we prayed this morning, a couple of

1393. things uh that came out that relate

1394. actually to what John had to share with

  1395. us today. Emmanuel,

1396. remember Jesus, one of his names. He is

  1397. always

1398. here for you. God with us.

  1399. Freedom from depression.

  1400. A parent

1401. is concerned about a child's health and

  1402. development.

1403. We want to pray with you about that.

1404. You need assurance that God hears your

1405. praise. God, are you hearing me? I'm

1406. trying to praise you. Yes, he does. He

  1407. sees your heart.

1408. A picture of a middle schooler playing

1409. basketball outside and injuring the

  1410. shoulder.

  1411. And

  1412. enter 2026 with expectation.

1413. expectation that God is with us. He's

  1414. got something for us.

  1415. Okay. So,

1416. we would if any of these things speak to

1417. you, we would love to join you in prayer

1418. about that over here in the corner. Or

1419. if you have some other physical need or

  1420. or other issue,

1421. we would love to pray for you.

1422. I wonder, Steve. You know, typically we

1423. send people over that corner and prayer

1424. teams, thank you for going over there,

1425. but would you come back?

1426. >> Um, I'm gonna ask us to be just a little

1427. bit more bold because this is a

1428. wide-ranging list and I think it might

1429. be fun for our community to love on one

  1430. another a little bit.

  1431. >> Uhhuh.

1432. >> Uh, and so if there's something on this

1433. list that you feel like, yeah, God, God

1434. got my number, would you have the

1435. courage to just stand up right now if

1436. any of those things refer to you?

1437. the the other thing. So this uh freedom

  1438. from depression

1439. sometimes there there are psycho

1440. physical emotional things and sometimes

1441. there are spiritual things that God

1442. wants to take care of. God's been doing

1443. a lot of deliverance in our church

1444. recently. And so if you have if you came

1445. into the church service especially I'm

1446. gonna again I'll give a wider invitation

1447. so you won't feel poked out but if

  1448. you've been feeling darkness

1449. God wants to deliver you from that and

1450. he has the power to do that. We are not

1451. meant to live with darkness over us. No

1452. matter what we've done or what anybody

1453. has done to us. He wants to deliver us

1454. to the light. And so again, anything on

1455. this list or if you've never said yes to

1456. Jesus and given yourself completely to

1457. him to guide you, we want you to stand.

1458. And so again, if any of these things

1459. refer to you, would you just stand up

1460. and and and raise your hand?

1461. Yeah. And then people around you,

1462. there's one over here, couple over here.

1463. uh if you've been trained, we have a

1464. simple five-step prayer model. It just

1465. helps keep dignity in our prayer

1466. ministry times. Would you surround these

1467. people and begin to pray for them? And

1468. typically like we would play like some

1469. worship music right now and try to

1470. distract you from what's going on. But I

1471. think God wants to wants us to pay

  1472. attention in this moment.

1473. Be those people that are standing, start

1474. to surround them, begin praying.

1475. Yeah, if you've been trained, you are

  1476. assigned. Go

1477. just start praying for people. And those

1478. of you who are in the seats, you're

1479. like, "Well, what do I do? I don't have

1480. any problems and I'm not praying for

1481. anybody." Just wait and start praying.

1482. And and if you don't know how to pray,

1483. there's a simple prayer uh in in Matthew

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

1484. chapter 6. You can Google it and it's

1485. our father who art in heaven hallowed be

1486. thy name thy kingdom come thy will be

1487. done just start praying thy kingdom come

1488. thy will be done on the people around

1489. you start lifting them up in prayer.

1490. If while these prayers are happening,

1491. you go, "Well, you know, maybe there is

  1492. something

1493. I need prayer for," go ahead and stand

1494. up and raise your hand. Make sure

  1495. somebody sees you. And

  1496. if you're a visitor, we're not always

1497. this awkward or weird, but

1498. we like following what God's up to.

1499. Jesus is always here for you. Freedom

  1500. from depression, deliverance from

1501. depression, a parent concerned about

  1502. health and development, needing

1503. assurance that God hears your praise. A

1504. picture of a middle schooler playing

1505. basketball or outside and injuring the

  1506. shoulder. Entering 2026 with

1507. expectation. Again, if any of those

  1508. things are for you,

1509. I'm going to wait an awkward amount of

1510. time for you to stand.

  1511. People

1512. are still getting prayer. I'll ask for

1513. the worship team to come up now. I just

  1514. don't like distracting. Even though it's

  1515. weird. I don't like distracting from

1516. what God actually wants to do. Sometimes

1517. we we just sort of run it over like let

  1518. that pass.

1519. And as the rest are getting prayer, you

  1520. can stand with us.

1521. We're going to close our time church

  1522. today with a song.

  1523. [music]

  1524. >> [music]

1525. >> Falling on my knees [singing and music]

  1526. in worship,

1527. giving all I am to seek [music] your

  1528. face,

1529. Lord. All I am is [singing] yours.

1530. My whole life I [singing and music]

1531. place in your hands. God of mercy,

  1532. humble, I [music]

  1533. bow down

1534. in your [singing] presence at your

  1535. throne.

  1536. [music]

  1537. And I called,

  1538. you [singing] answered

  1539. [music]

1540. >> and you came [singing]

1541. to my rescue. And I

1542. want [music] to be where [singing] you

  1543. are.

  1544. And I called,

  1545. you answered

1546. and you came [singing and music] to my

  1547. rescue. And I

  1548. want to be where

  1549. you are.

1550. Would you stand with us?

1551. My whole [singing] life I place in your

1552. hands. God of mercy, humbled

  1553. abound

1554. in your presence [singing and music]

  1555. at your throne.

  1556. [music]

  1557. I [singing] called

  1558. you answered

  1559. [music]

1560. and you [singing] came to my rescue. And

  1561. I

1562. want [music] to be where

  1563. you are.

  1564. Yeah. I called. [singing]

  1565. You answered

1566. and you [music and singing] came to my

  1567. rescue and I

1568. want [music] to be [singing] where

  1569. you are.

  1570. >> [music]

  1571. [music]

  1572. >> In my life

1573. [music] be lifted. [singing] ed high and

  1574. our world

1575. be lifted high [singing and music] and

  1576. our love

  1577. be lifted [singing] high

  1578. in my life.

1579. be lifted [singing] high and our world

1580. be lifted high and our love

  1581. be lifted high.

  1582. Oh,

1583. I [singing and music] called.

  1584. You answered

1585. and you came [singing] to my rescue.

  1586. [music] And I

1587. want to [singing] be where

  1588. you are.

  1589. >> Yeah. I [singing] called, [music]

  1590. you answered

  1591. [music]

1592. >> and you [singing] came to my rescue. And

  1593. I

1594. want to be where [singing] you

  1595. are.

  1596. I [singing] call

  1597. you [music] answer

  1598. [singing]

1599. and [music] you came to my rescue. And I

  1600. want to be where

  1601. you are.

  1602. I call [singing]

  1603. you [music]

  1604. answer.

  1605. >> [music]

1606. >> And [singing] you came to my rescue. And

  1607. I

1608. want to be [music and singing] where

  1609. you

  1610. are.

  1611. [music]

1612. And so we end the service with a

1613. declaration as well up on the screen for

1614. you. Would you read with me? Filled with

1615. the Holy Spirit and grounded in God's

1616. love, we're sent [music] out to join in

1617. God's kingdom with impact through his

1618. word and his works. Deeply rooted in the

1619. Father, Son, and [music] Holy Spirit, we

1620. help others to follow Jesus, bringing

1621. good news to the poor, [music] sight to

1622. the blind, freedom for captives, and

1623. blessing to our family, friends, and

1624. neighbors in [music] Jesus' name. Amen.

1625. Would you receive this blessing as we

1626. send you out in the name of the Father

1627. and the Son and the Holy Spirit? Would

1628. you go out filled with the Holy Spirit,

1629. filled with his light in the darkness,

1630. reaching for his hope and sharing the

1631. good news of the cross [music] in your

1632. life. I bless you in Jesus name. Amen.

1633. Go in peace. For those who want to

1634. continue to worship, we're going to

1635. [music] play a few more songs. For those

1636. who want to leave or you want to hang

1637. out with friends, you can go towards the

1638. door, grab some more coffee. [music]

1639. sort of a choose your own adventure at

  1640. this point

  1641. [music]

  1642. in [singing] my
