Welcome to the one Church podcast.

Hello and welcome to the first one Church podcast of 2023,

whether you're listening to this on a morning.

Commute on a late-night run or at any point in between we are

so glad to have you with us. My name is Callan and my prayer

for you today is from Psalm 78, 24 to 25, He reigns down manner

for them to eat, he gave them bread from Heaven.

They ate the food of angels, God gave them all.

They could hold just as God provided daily for the

Israelites. I pray that, you know.

His Heavenly provision today as you listen and engage with his

word, he will receive as much food for your soul as you can

hold. So prepare yourself and be ready

to be fed as we're heading to the north site for a great

message, recorded on the 8th of January from pasta season.

So last Sunday was New Year's day.

I've not forgotten that already, I hope and it was such a great

time together. Wasn't as one church meeting

together and I hope you've caught up with David's message.

It's, they're available on the YouTube channel.

If you haven't heard it already, or if you want to catch up

again. But part of what they would

spoke from last week was from Ephesians chapter 4 and he

Ephesians 4 · chapter mention

picked out seven words for the house this year, which were

Purity. Humility others unit.

A blessing safety and Grace and those are amazing words.

I think of as we go through this year but to know as well that

the father has a plan and he has a plan not just for us

individually. But for us, as a church, moving

forward together, and as David said last week, we believe that

the Lord wants to release the ministry Gifts of Apostle

Prophet, evangelist pastor and teacher in our church to a

greater level. Why?

Well, the answer is there in Ephesians 4 and he again,

highlighted this last week to equip his people for works of

service so he wants us equipped for the mission so that the body

of Christ might be built up. So he wants us all as a body as

a group of people together, working together to be built up

until we all reach, unity in the faith.

So he wants us to walk in a spirit of unity and to become

mature. He wants us to move into greater

maturity to get strong. Ang in our faith.

So over the next six months, we're going to have an exciting

time on Sunday mornings together as we release some keynote

messages throughout this six months spoken by those with the

leaning towards those different giftings and we're going to

follow each keynote message with a series around that theme.

Just with the aim of building up the body, equipping us for our

mission with Jesus. So I think that's really

exciting. And I'm so excited about this

next six months and teaching in the life of Church.

So, I believe that David is a Pioneer.

My husband, David. If you don't know him, I'll tell

you a little bit about him because he lives so much in the

future. He's always thinking about

breaking new ground. In fact, I always think it's the

next day or the next month if I not because of living with David

and I was feeling a year older than I am because he's always

saying, well, you're nearly this age and I think that is a side

of an Apostolic gifting because as David spoke at the beginning

of the year and us together as we lead one, Church forward,

Ephesians 4 tells us that the ministry gifts, such as the

apostolic gift after the building of the whole body to be

equipped together. In other words, we believe that

intentionally releasing this Apostolic gifting intentionally,

releasing the building and the Breakthrough anointing.

The Pioneer spirit means that we're all going to become more

of a Pioneer people. If we're willing to sew over

January, we're going to teach into this whole thing of being a

Pioneer people. So what is a Pioneer?

Well, a Pioneer picture is, I was thinking of the pictures

that might go with that word pioneer.

Something like climbing the mountain cutting through the

jungle, flying to the moon going boldly, where others have not

been. So the idea is going ahead,

making a way I know when I was a little girl and if anybody else

loved these books, but I used to love these books called Little

House on the Prairie, anybody recognize that title, you know,

there was a TV Series this by the same title.

It was set in the 1870s and 80s, probably very much, a girly sort

of book. I would say maybe although if

you're a man here and you enjoyed them, don't feel that

for the in any way bad but it was all about this family in the

US and they were in the wild west, you know, traveling

through the Prairies making away.

Moving into Uncharted Territory. To be a Pioneer is the opposite

of being a settler. Now, I'm not saying by saying

that that you can't be settled in your heart, you can't be at

peace in yourself and be a Pioneer for Jesus, because I

believe that you can be both, but to be a Pioneer for Jesus is

to carry a heart for the kingdom as a whole and to be flexible

and willing to be inconvenienced.

Even if it's for the bigger good, if the, for the bigger

picture, As followers of Jesus were all called to be pioneers.

And if you don't yet know him, if you're in this room and you

don't know Jesus, then know that Jesus calls us to a life of

adventure. And I believe for all of us.

That's the life that we really have.

Always wanted to live a life of adventure and I certainly

wouldn't have believed when I was 14 years old and I sat in

the school hall in Cambridge and I heard the gospel.

I heard the good news that Jesus died for me so that I could be

forgiven and so that I could have a whole new life, a new

life that would go into eternity.

I don't think I could ever have imagined.

Does that 14 year old girl, where that would have led me

just following Jesus, where it would have led me in my life

just because I said yes to Jesus.

And we're to continue to say yes to Jesus during our prayer and

fasting time this week, someone shared a quote which just stuck

with me. It said, faith is the

stubbornness to keep living out the yes that we gave to God

yesterday. I'll say that.

Again, faith is the stubbornness to keep living out the yes that

we gave to God. God yesterday.

And how much will become pioneers and bear fruit for

Jesus. Will depend on how much we say

yes to him. I wonder how much are you

willing in your heart right now? We've just prayed, Jesus, have

it all. And we really willing to say yes

to Jesus, whatever it is. He calls us to do.

So we are a Pioneer people. And today's key passage is in

the first chapter of the Book of Joshua there, in the old part of

the Bible, in the Old Testament, a little bit of background.

The people of Israel were brought out of slavery in Egypt,

Egypt. They went through the Red Sea

and then they wandered in the desert for 40 years and this

group that's there waiting at the edge of the promised land is

an entirely different group, only Joshua and Caleb are still

alive. Having gone through the desert

because they believe God when everyone else refused to believe

and go into the promised land at the time when God intended.

And so they all died off in the wilderness.

And even Moses, their great leader who was described as

knowing god face to face as a man knows a friend.

He's died. And now a new leader has to rise

up and that is Joshua and it's time to go into the promised

land and possess the land. So this is where we catch up

with the story. So this is just your chapter one

so just read along with me. After the death of Moses, the

servant of the Lord. The Lord said to Joshua, son of

nun. Moses assistant, Moses, my

servant is dead. Now then you and all these

people get ready to cross the River.

Jordan into the land, I'm about to give them to the Israelites.

I will give you every place where you set your foot.

As I promised Moses, your territory will extend from the

desert to Lebanon. And from the Great River, the

Euphrates, all the hittite country to the Mediterranean Sea

in the west. No one will be able.

Able to stand against you all the days of your life as I was

with Moses. So I will be with you.

I will never leave you nor forsake, you be strong and

courageous because you will lead these people to inherit the

land, I swore to their ancestors to give them.

Wow, well, let's just pray for a moment.

Lord, Jesus, we thank you that you are our great Pioneer Lord.

You are the Pioneer and Perfecter of our faith and Lord

was, we unpacked this scripture Lord.

We pray that you would Inspire us.

We pray that you would Speak to our hearts Lord, you'd speak

directly to our Spirits. Lord, that we will be changed by

your word and we just open our hearts.

Lord, to hear what you want to say to us right now.

Amen. Amen.

So Miracles, laid behind the people of Israel and miracles,

lay ahead of them. And these verses are telling us

about Joshua's dramatic, commissioning from Yahweh, into

his new task, to go and possess the land and to lead the people.

So here's a few things out of that scripture.

So firstly, a chapter was Adding it says, Moses, my servant is

dead. I think that's very Stark.

It's one of the most Stark sayings in the Bible, is it

Moses? My servant is dead.

Now, I don't know if any of you have ever watched a program

called Death in Paradise, if any of you ever watch that well for

some reason, it really sort of appeals to you at this time of

the year to watch a store, some stories about people being

murdered on a beautiful paradise island in the Caribbean and

sometimes after church on a Sunday when they And I just need

a moment to like switch off, will sit and have a sandwich and

watch Death in Paradise. But one thing that we find very,

very interesting about this series and very funny apart from

the fact that there's a remarkably small police force on

the island who were very inappropriate close.

I think for being police and also a very large number of

murders, considering how small it is.

But each episode starts in a similar way.

There's usually this dramatic start.

Somebody is dead and somebody will say something like, oh,

he's dead. Ed.

And then this music comes on, it goes to do.

Do do, do, do, do do. It's like the Caribbean tune

which is really sort of like light and Lively.

And for some reason we always find that funny but here it's a

bit like that. It says Moses is dead.

Moses is dead. He's buried.

And the chapter is ended. So the end of Deuteronomy, the

book before Joshua, we now led into Joshua.

And the story moves forward and even the setting is the same

because the Israelites are still camped on the plains of Moab

east of the Jordan River and God.

Now addresses Joshua, he's saying there's no surprise that

there's going to be this new leader and that the new leader

is going to be Joshua. The people would have really

realized that by now, because he's already proven himself

Joshua, to be a man of Faith. He's Brave in battle.

He's a good leader. He's a spiritual man.

Think of all the time that Josh, you're spent you read about him

spending time. In the tent of meeting it says,

Moses will come out of the tendon, Joshua would stay in

their meeting with God. He was obedient to God.

He's even been commissioned publicly by Moses when Moses was

still alive. So it wasn't any surprise God

had said about him. He was a man in whom is the

spirit and that he followed the Lord wholeheartedly and Israel

saw that the Lord had given him. It says, in Deuteronomy, 30 for

a spirit of wisdom. So that's a great leader, isn't

it? Someone full of the spirit.

Someone Knowing the Lord wholeheartedly and with the

spirit of wisdom. So there's a new day coming.

Secondly, they had to get ready now then you and all these

people get ready. So this journey ahead was not

going to be just about the leader it says.

And all these people not even about the close team around

Joshua, the people, every single one of the people had to be

ready to step out together. How could they get ready for the

unknown? Well, any Pioneer has never been

this way before. This is going west.

This is the Great Adventure and God had already given them

promises. And he's going to lead them

step-by-step. And so often, this is the case.

Yes, God gives us great promises.

He says things to us like stand still and see what the Lord will

do. And at the same time, he says,

other things such as as you walk through the fire, I will go with

you. So we're also expected to walk

forward. They have to get ready thirdly

this was a momentous moment now then you and all these people

get ready to cross the river into the land.

I'm about to give them to the Israelites.

I will give you every place where you set your foot.

As I promised Moses, this is a truly momentous moment in the

history of the people of Israel. It was six centuries earlier God

had promised Abraham, you can read about it.

In Genesis 12, and Genesis 15 that he would possess this land.

This land will be possessed by his ancestors.

Sisters and the Jordan River now must be crossed.

It's the final barrier into this promised land and then will come

the battles the unknown ahead. They could all have been

petrified. In fact, I'm sure they had their

moments like a deer in the Headlights. but God encourages

Joshua, and he encourages all the people, Fourthly it will

mean change. So it says your territory will

extend. Now this is a change because up

till now they've been this. These people wandering in the

wilderness and now they're entering this land and its vast

and they have to possess it and they must conquer.

And Josh, your May well have remember the seen a generation

before. When people went into the land,

the spies went into the land right at the start of what was

to be, their journey in the wilderness because of their

Disobedience, the spies went into the land, under a, they

came back and they said, oh, they were huge cities there and

it was there were two fortified for us to take and they said

there were giants in the land and we look like grasshoppers in

our in our own eyes and we look like grasshoppers in their eyes

and the people didn't go in at that point.

There was a lot of fear, but somehow now, it feels different

for a star. All the doubters are dead.

Now, they're all their voices are silenced their in the grave,

but Joshua really needs to hear encouragement.

I'm sure those thoughts would have maybe gone through his

head, and he does, Fifthly as they pioneered God promised to

walk with them. God promises Joshua says as I

was with Moses, so I'll be with you.

I will never leave you or forsake.

You what? An amazing promise.

Moses and God were very close. As I said, God said about Moses.

He was like a friend. He talked to him face-to-face

and yet God is saying here I'm going to be with you just as I

was with Moses. And the words here, I will never

leave you or forsake you. They mean, I'll never relax my

efforts on your behalf or I'll never desert.

You, I'll never abandon you. Maybe you're here this morning,

you need to hear that from God, that he's never going to leave

you. He's never going to forsake you

because it's true for you as well.

But Joshua wasn't expected to do this alone and neither were the

people. The battle was the Lord's and

the Lord was with them. And 6li it would involve courage

be strong and courageous as God. In some form, God says the same

thing, three times through this passage.

So I have a feeling he wants to get his point over.

He's hammering, it home, be strong, and courageous.

He says, then he says, be strong and very courageous.

And then, finally, in a verse a little bit after, so, verse 9,

he says, have I not commanded. You be strong and courageous do

not be afraid. Do not be discouraged for the

Lord. Your God.

God will be with you wherever you go.

And suddenly they will see incredible things.

You will lead these people to inherit the land.

Says God a promise made years ago is about to be fulfilled and

is an interesting Journey they've got a head.

Okay? So that's the Israelites at this

point in their history and for us as well, we're always

pioneering because there's change and seasons and there's

much ahead. I've just been thinking about

some key moments in my own life and in mine and David's life

that led into are stepping into a new season because I feel

we're at another new season right now.

One for me, was when I finished my degree and then I did some

teacher training and I was desperate to leave Nottingham

which was the place where I was living.

I thought I would like to go and live in a different part of the

country and I tried to go somewhere else.

And it wasn't really a case of making a decision.

There was a god really literally made it very clear to me that I

was to stay in Nottingham. Now, I think about it staying in

Nottingham was something that made a massive difference in my

life and actually led to a lot of things that would never have

happened if I hadn't stayed there in 1990, I remember David

and I are leading. We used to be youth pastor.

So we're leading the youth work at our, our old church and

remember the Lord speaking to us, we had a very Lovely.

Big Hall where we met and we did a great setup each week.

It was just a great place to meet together and yet we felt

from Deuteronomy chapter 1, the Lord say you've stayed long

enough at this mountain break camp and advance and so we

rented the YMCA right down in the middle of town on a Friday

night and we used to go in and you say a whole afternoon to set

it up to make it look amazing. And we really, really grew as a

youth work in that time, just because of that little step of

obedience, Was an amazing time, amazing time of encounter and

breakthrough for those young people.

And then I was thinking about coming to Leicester where the

Lord spoke to us from Genesis chapter 12 and said go from your

Genesis 12 · chapter mention

country. Your people and your father's

household to the land, I will show you.

It doesn't seem a very big step for us going from Nottingham,

where we lived coming to Lester. And yet it was a massive step or

it felt like a massive step to come and Lead.

What was 20 Life Church? And who knows what would have

happened? If we hadn't done that, it was

an amazing thing that happened in our life and it just led to

the next step for us a new season.

And then four years ago when God said no to an additional

opportunity, that was a possibility for David and the

Lord said to him to keep on going with what he was doing.

And I know it was hard. I know it was hard for him.

That moment where he faced some disappointment in his life and

yet we were, I don't think we'd have, we'd have been here where

we are as one church right now. If David hadn't said yes to

embrace and disappointment and to embrace a new opportunity and

a new day, And right now I believe we're a changing of the

season. For some of us this big changes

ahead for others, small adjustments.

But even in our own lives, people have had babies.

There have been deaths in our family.

Parents getting older neighbors, arriving or moving changing and

job children. Getting older health challenges

breakthroughs in our walk with Jesus, there's all sorts of

things happening for just look out over any group of people,

any of our sites here in. One Church will see, people are

facing all sorts of different things.

And as a church as well, we're more than aware than ever.

That church is all about people and it's not about buildings and

we're always following our Good Shepherd.

I had a picture in worship. I shared last Sunday and it was

very, very clear of Jesus dressed as a good shepherd, with

those Shepherd's crook holding out his hand, and saying, come

with me into 2023. Follow me, and Jesus is the Good

Shepherd, and he goes ahead of us and somebody came up to me

after the service, and they were so excited.

Excited. They said at that very same

moment, I grabbed my wife because I had exactly the same

picture at the same time of Jesus saying, come and follow me

through this year. Let's just go back to the

passage. I'm going to apply it to us as a

people, as a church. So, firstly, a chapter is ending

Moses. My servant is dead.

Well, as well as changes in our lives Church.

Life is changing a bit at the moment as well.

Our leader has not died but some am grateful for that but some

things will never be the same again.

And this is going to affect some of us more than others, but we

should all be aware that it is affecting others in our body

because we're all one family, the one Center building on frog

Island will change for the better over the next six months

as it gets renovated and made into an amazing place that will

be ascending Hub. A discipleship hub for our city.

We won't drop our children off for midweek groups in high

Fields anymore. Some of you going to be very

disappointed because it's going to be so much easier to park

your cars at frog Island. But will drop them off for

number 12. And lots of not just great

parking but the room is ready and we're believing for amazing

growth over this season with our children and our young people as

we go into a new building and just even in this time of

pilgrimage this time of pioneering that we're going to

see growth. We're going to see new Harvest.

And for a period, some friends in our church may not be in the

same room. And we want to acknowledge that

for some people that's different but you know change has always

been here to stay in our church history I think of David and I

are arriving and there was one service, then it went to two

Services. Then we went to moat Community

College, then we became North Saito be site and it says and

City. Sights City site, 6 birthday

next week. Bronson side.

It's seven years today since we got the keys for the oak Center

meeting together. Then we met in the cube with met

in a re the arena and then there's the Journey of all

Nations. She's Church who were joined

with that planted out and then came back together and did all

sorts of things in in history and we rejoice in are so

grateful for yesterday. For some of us we were part of

the Journey of a past church that we were part-time and for

some of us we haven't been part of a church.

We are new to Jesus. We are new to this.

But if we're all of us, it's a new year.

And the vision continues, we're going in the same direction.

Loving God, loving people loving his mission, loving is church

and we're making adjustments together.

For some of us it's going to feel just like turning over in

bed and for others it's going to be a big like moving house or

something like that. But if we're all doing the

Christian Life, as Jesus intends us to, then all of us are going

to feel like we're on a Pioneer in Journey because he's always

calling us to follow him. And look at the life that he

lived. Secondly, we have to get ready

now then you and all these people get ready?

We get. Ready in response to his call.

Whatever is asking of each of us.

This week I've been with others ringing.

People from Central site to ask whether they'd be willing to go

and be part of the OB site. For the next six months, I have

to say, I love our church because people's response has

been so willing and so flexible and it's been amazing people

saying yes all over. The verse in Psalm 110, that

says your people be willing in the day of your power, just

definitely true of our church. But how do we prepare for the

next step, in our journey will for Joshua and the people they

were to get their supplies ready, food, water, armor

weapons, and for us to, let's make sure our devotions are in

place that we're receiving the food of the word of God, that

we're receiving, the water of the holy spirit that we putting

on the armor of God. Every day that we're lifting up

the weapons of our Warfare word and praise.

So on. It's been so good these days of

prayer and fasting but let's continue making prayer.

A big part of our life groups, for example, so that we really

support and encourage each other keep each other going.

Thirdly, this is a momentous moment.

I will give you every place where you set your foot as I

promised Moses. That was a radical promised to

Joshua as he stepped out, he would take ground.

I remember as a teacher when I was a teacher going into the

buildings of the schools where I worked and literally, I would

step over the threshold into the school building each day and say

to myself or say to the Lord. Thank you.

You give me every place where I set my feet was just something

that God called me to do. For us, he's spoken of the

future. I've never known a year as like

20, 20, 20. We've had so many words, so many

prophecies so many things. And as we step out, we're

expecting blessing, and momentum, and joy and

breakthrough. He has many people in this city.

North south east and west. So we need to believe his

promises, and we need to step out and listen to his voice and

follow. Full state will mean change your

territory will extend. We realize there's going to be

change and we all react to change differently.

I've been researching yesterday, if I must have researching how

to settle chickens, I'm not thinking of having any chickens,

but how to settle chickens into a new chicken coop.

And apparently what you do is you put them inside a box or

that's recommended that put them in a cardboard box and put them

inside the coop. So they still feel sort of quite

safe and then they graduate will come out.

But people say, I've heard it said that chickens are a bit

like people in terms of some of the earlier adopters and some of

them are later. Adopter.

So some will settle in quicker than others.

I wonder what sort of a doctor are you?

Because early adopters, you just talk to them about an idea and

they'll say, oh yeah. I was thinking about that I'm

in. The early majority will say,

hmm, let's pause will just give us a day or two and then we'll

get back to you. Then there's the late majority

who say, give us some time to think and process, I'll come

back to you in two to three weeks. and then there's the

later doctors who might say something like well it's

unlikely but we'll let you know in a year's time I wonder what

sort of chicken are you? What sort of person are you?

This isn't just change that we're doing right now in church

for change sake. It's following the cloud, it's

following what we believe God is asking us to do.

So there are a few changes. I was thinking of the people who

work in the high fields building in our preschool, for example,

it feels quiet at the moment. The tots that meets their this

week is going to be slightly different atmosphere.

After the 5th of February, we're good.

Not going to have any more togethers for a quite a few

months that will be different for all of us.

We're going to plan some encounter nights for some Sunday

evenings. Thinking about the Israelites

band of pioneers, even their food would change in Joshua 5.

It says, the next day was the first time they ate food grown

in Canaan, roasted grain and bread made without yeast.

The manner stop falling down and the Israelites no longer had

any. So the manner that they were

receiving from Heaven up till then stopped because they were

now eating the food of the land, and I have to say it, probably

tastes better. So some of this change, we're

ready to embrace it. What's coming is better than

what we've had 50. As we Pioneer, he promises to

walk with us. This is the season to lean into

him. We don't just work for him, you

know, that, don't you? We don't just work for Jesus.

We were with Jesus, and he walks with us.

So it's something we do together.

We are together. We say Lord, help us see you at

every turn. Help us to follow you at every

moment. 68 will involve courage like you said to Joshua.

And again and again, God says to us, and I want you to hear this

today. Be strong and courageous, be

strong and very courageous. And finally have I not

commanded. You be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged for the

Lord. Your God will be with you

wherever Wherever you go. So I think it's safe to say that

he's saying to me and he's saying to you be strong and

courageous, what? Amazing encouragement, what

amazing promises and like those pioneering.

Israelites, he is with us. And seventhly we will in see

incredible things. You will lead these people to

inherit the land. I just want to say to you today.

What are you believing for? What are you believing for?

What you believed me for in your own life, in your family?

What are you believing for? In this site here for reaching

out to this area of our city. What are you believing for?

What are you believing for in Leicester?

What do we believe in for in owed, be in bronston and in the

city and in the central part of our city?

So Joshua was a Pioneer and you know, his name has the same root

as the name, Jesus, it means the Lord saves and we follow him.

We bring his kingdom rule. We are Pioneer people.

So we're just going to pray for a moment.

Just want to ask you to bring your heart to Jesus because for

some of us, when we talk about pioneering, when we talk about

going forward into a new year, there's something in our heart

that just sort of holds. Back.

Which is going to bring any doubt I want to bring to bring

any doubt today, any fear? Even any cynicism you recognize

them cynicism in your heart that just says something like oh here

we go again. Oh, that's alright.

For them. And he caution I need to hear

Jesus saying to you personally, today, be strong and courageous,

be strong and very courageous. Have I?

Not commanded. You do not be terrified or

discouraged, be strong and courageous.

Could you just bring him your heart right now?

Say Lord, I'm willing to be a Pioneer for you.

I'm willing to step out and follow your voice.

I'm willing to get ready. And willing for change.

Because yes, there's a Pioneer in every one of you.

And you know how I know that because Jesus is the Pioneer and

Perfecter of our faith and he lives within us by his spirit.

So just see that you are strong in Jesus.

Q. Jesus.

God lord is speak today at over this wonderful group of people

here and everyone listening strength to bodies.

Strength to bodies right now in Jesus name that we will be

strong for this year. That would be strong in our

health will be strong, in our minds will be strong in our

relationships and every part of our Lives will be strong in our

Spirits. Thank you.

Jesus! Just receive right now that

strength from the holy spirit that strength from him to come

and fill you. If you ready to respond, just to

say, I want to be a Pioneer this year, I'm going to go where

maybe where I've never been before.

I'm going to step into something new and just stand with me right

now, where you are to stand with me.

I'm standing already because I want to Be a Pioneer.

We're called a Pioneer for Jesus of cord to go out and to make a

way for others who will come behind us.

Thank you. Jesus Lord, we worship you.

Why not start to just worship Him.

You might want to lift your hands up and handle.

If you speak in tongues, you might want to speak in tongues,

just speak out to him. Let's let praise rise in this

place. The say, Lord.

We love you. We want to follow you.

You are our strength. Be strong and courageous.

Do not worry. Do not be afraid.

He's with you. He's with you.

Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Pastor, Susan for

that message. It's going to be a brilliant
