  1. We Are One church. We love God love.

  2. People love his mission and love his church.

  3. Welcome to the one Church podcast.

  4. Hello, my name is Alice and this is the one Church podcast.

  5. It says, in Psalm 136, he remembered us, when we were in

  6. trouble, his love continues forever.

  7. Today we can be assured of the fact that God remembers us, no

  8. matter what we're facing, no matter what troubles we have in

  9. our lives, whether we're broken or whether we're rejoicing, his

  10. love for us continues forever and he remembers us today, we're

  11. Blessed to have the next installment of our Pioneer.

  12. People series from Pastor David at the Central site.

  13. It's so good to see you today. And for those visiting in the

  14. room, I'm David and along with my wife, Susan, and an amazing

  15. team. Here, we have the privilege of

  16. leading one church, and for those of you joining today on

  17. our podcast and listening throughout the week, welcome

  18. may, you be blessed as you listen.

  19. We're in an exciting season as a church, And I know site in

  20. Beaumont Lee's the last two weeks have been two of the

  21. largest ever attendances with people coming and it great sense

  22. of momentum happening over there.

  23. North of the city, in our city site, which is in the to Funky

  24. night club in the city center meeting right now.

  25. We celebrated our sixth birthday last Sunday and in a full room,

  26. we announce with real excitement that we're moving to two

  27. Services there on February the 12th.

  28. Let's have a bit more excitement in the room and I'm just, I'm

  29. just so excited about that. We've seen dozens, and dozens of

  30. mostly young adults, find Jesus be baptized be engaged in church

  31. life and be helped to move on. And we just creating another wad

  32. of space for people to find Jesus and find home in our

  33. Bronson site that's meeting right now, we meet in a

  34. community center in a challenging area of our city and

  35. that Community Center we run. All week is being transformed,

  36. the Outreach continues to grow. And, you know, that last year we

  37. averaged three thousand visits to that Center of month with

  38. people coming in and in the safe environment, being able to be

  39. supported and have fun. And also know about Jesus in our

  40. OB site meeting right now, Susan.

  41. Speaking there, this morning, we're preparing for change a 60

  42. to 70 of you move from here to there in a couple of weeks time.

  43. And as we strengthen, Earning and getting really under people.

  44. There are so excited about welcoming.

  45. Those of you that are going and it's going to be a great

  46. journey, and a fun time. And here, in central we're

  47. preparing. We're preparing next week will

  48. be the last time we ever meet in this Hall as it is as a site

  49. here. So don't miss it with baptizing

  50. some people in fact, can I just say if you've not been baptized

  51. in water You know, if you're a young person here, you're under

  52. 18 and you've not been baptized in water, honestly, if you think

  53. I'm going to wait a bit longer, if you here thinking, I'm not

  54. quite you ready. Jesus said, repent, and be

  55. baptized, and I think there's already about five people being

  56. baptized next week, but it's I wonder if there's anyone.

  57. Anyone else been thinking about they'd like to be baptized and I

  58. think maybe it's time and because I've mentioned it, you

  59. feeling all uncomfortable. But it would do you good to go?

  60. I think I need to be baptized in water.

  61. Anyone here anyone else know, you think?

  62. I think that would be good for me.

  63. You sure you sure, no one else. I don't know.

  64. I can hang in there. But if you, if you have bit

  65. nervous about putting your hand up, come and talk to Pastor,

  66. James past the Claire at the end and just say, I'd like some

  67. teaching this week, so I can get baptized next week.

  68. But here, our Central, we're preparing.

  69. And we're moving from this beautiful room into a beautiful

  70. room next door, that's smaller. So we're going to go to two

  71. Services as well as sending out for a few months.

  72. Some people to our OB site and we're expecting powerful Sundays

  73. and counters and community. And we know it's a A time of

  74. change. We had the Mets way guys here on

  75. Friday with our building team talking about some of the

  76. changes that will happen on February.

  77. The 7th, we will take every piece of equipment out of this

  78. building every table and chair and everything that doesn't want

  79. to get destroyed when we're going to store it somewhere else

  80. and that in itself is a miracle in work.

  81. Lord, Jesus. Thank you for your help.

  82. And this building is going to be gutted over that week and we'll

  83. be in our This is upstairs, they said they might be a little bit

  84. of noise. And they'll be a lot of noise,

  85. but that's part of the fun. And this is going to be

  86. transformed over the next six months.

  87. And we know it's a time of change.

  88. We know it's a time of change for us here.

  89. Keep connecting with people that you might not see every week,

  90. you can text. You can go for meals, you can go

  91. to different small groups, you can connect and keep friendships

  92. and keep encouraging. We are one church.

  93. We just happen to be in different places.

  94. Get yourself in a small group. Throw yourself in let's as a

  95. site be next door every week, we're going to fit lots of

  96. people in there. We've got ideas to make it work.

  97. We've got space for kids. It's going to be fantastic.

  98. I can't wait and I looking forward to being their first

  99. week and cheering everybody on with all that we're doing and

  100. you're going to be able to follow week by week.

  101. What's happening in this building?

  102. They'll be an online facility where we'll upload photographs

  103. of what's happened this week and you can lie, Out one on the

  104. screen there, keep up to speed with what's happening and keep

  105. asking questions. And as I said before some of you

  106. love change and some of you, it unsettles you, I understand

  107. don't be unsettled. We're going to be okay.

  108. Jesus is Lord of his church and we're simply listening to him.

  109. We're Pioneers on New Year's Day.

  110. Here seems so long ago, but I know it wasn't seems a long time

  111. ago. I looked at Ephesians chapter 4

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  112. as It speaks about five gifts of the church, five people Gifts of

  113. an Apostle Prophet evangelist pastor and teacher.

  114. And we believe in this season, that Jesus is wanting to release

  115. these gifts in our church, to a greater level or why.

  116. That passage says that to acquit, the people for works of

  117. service. We believe God this year wants

  118. to equip us for the mission. The passage says so that the

  119. body of Christ may be built. We believe that during this

  120. season, he wants all of us as a body, too.

  121. Built up and the passage says, until we reach unity in the

  122. faith. He wants us in this season to

  123. walk in a spirit of unity together.

  124. And lastly, it says and to become mature.

  125. He wants all of us in this season to move into greater

  126. maturity. So, at the start of each month,

  127. this year will have a keynote message to everyone either in

  128. person or on video so that we all get the same message at the

  129. same time and it will be spoken by different people with a

  130. leaning. Odds these Ephesians 4 gifting

  131. and then we'll follow each keynote message with a series

  132. aimed at building up the body and equipping.

  133. All of us for the mission of Jesus.

  134. Now, a part of my gifting I believe is Apostolic and on

  135. January the first, I launched the series here about being a

  136. Pioneer and that Series has continued into parts of it about

  137. being a Pioneer people and how, as Pioneers.

  138. We see the possibilities Pioneers, go.

  139. Head, they break new ground, they make away and we are called

  140. to be Pioneers for Jesus. How many of you know Susan on my

  141. journey last year encountering? God on a small mountain in

  142. Wales. And last Sunday morning we were

  143. away and we went to up the same mountain and stood at the top in

  144. a watchtower and knelt down and just invited him this year to

  145. come and do something so extraordinary that only he can

  146. get the credit because God is about Something and we are

  147. simply following what he says and we just returned full of

  148. faith and expectation. What a wonderful Jesus.

  149. What a Wonderful Life, what? A wonderful body of people.

  150. One churches. And today, we're looking at the

  151. reality that our Pioneer has to move and take a step, you can

  152. have a dream and a vision and you can write me pray and wait

  153. but sometimes there comes a moment where as a pioneer You

  154. need to take a step and move. And here we are in Luke chapter

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  155. 10. We're going to read a few verses

  156. together they'll come up on the screen and reading from the NIV,

  157. that's a version of the Bible that I mostly use in my

  158. devotions and studies after this, the Lord appointed seventy

  159. two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to go to every

  160. town and place where he was about to go.

  161. And he told them the Harvest is plentiful, but the workers are

  162. few. Wow, you worker ready to go

  163. because the Harvest is plentiful as the lord of the Harvest,

  164. therefore to send out workers into his Harvest field.

  165. I'd like to believe one day that one church is filled in which

  166. 99% of people are, actively involved in workers in the

  167. Harvest field and the other percent are new Believers,

  168. getting themselves healed, and ready and sorted.

  169. To be used as workers go. He says, I'm sending you out

  170. like Lambs Among Wolves. Sorry about that.

  171. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals, do not greet.

  172. Anyone on the road and when you enter house, say peace to this

  173. house and if someone who promotes pieces, there your

  174. peace will rest on them. If not, it will return to you

  175. and stay there eating and drinking whatever they give you

  176. for the worker deserves his wages.

  177. Do not move around from house to house.

  178. And when you enter a town and are welcomed eat, what is

  179. offered to you. The sake of that, tell them the

  180. kingdom of God has come near to you and the 72 returned with joy

  181. and said, Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name and he

  182. replied. I saw Satan fall, like,

  183. lightning from Heaven, I've given you authority to trample

  184. on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the

  185. enemy, nothing will harm you however, do not rejoice that the

  186. spirits submit to you, but Rejoice, that your names are

  187. written in heaven. The passage starts with those

  188. interesting words, after After this after what?

  189. Well imagine Matthew Matthew, The extact Collector with his

  190. little notebook, taking notes while the chapter before after

  191. this the chapter is talking about was intense, Jesus had

  192. sent out the twelve had fed the 5,000.

  193. He'd Peter declared that Jesus was the Messiah.

  194. Jesus had been transfigured on a mountain and it had been a

  195. moment. They those there.

  196. Never would forget. Jesus had healed.

  197. Lots of people in welcome children and he demonstrated It

  198. for all eternity, how important children are to the heart of

  199. God. Children's work is to be at the

  200. very core, some of the best things we do as a church and it

  201. I'm so grateful for all that happens here, they had faced

  202. opposition and Jesus had told them, if you're going to follow

  203. me, it's pretty radical and you're going to suffer and you

  204. can't look back. And now he says, I'm sending you

  205. out to a bigger group and think about this moment, the feelings

  206. of these guys. Sure, some of them said, well,

  207. we didn't know that he was sending us out in this way.

  208. We didn't think we'd signed up for this.

  209. We thought we would just following Jesus and listening to

  210. him. But now it seems that he's

  211. calling us to go and he's saying that following him means us

  212. being sent out. And more than that, he says,

  213. we're being sent out into the unknown.

  214. Listen for to every town and place where he was about to go

  215. being sent out into possible danger, like Lambs Among Wolves.

  216. Thank you. Come, come be a lamb.

  217. Amongst wolves with very little equipment.

  218. Don't take a purse or a bag or sandals.

  219. Now they obviously have a context but just the challenge

  220. and I imagine these 72 disciples felt a bit vulnerable.

  221. What's going to happen and for us as Pioneers today, it might

  222. look different but it's the same in principle.

  223. So I want to look what it was like for these pioneers.

  224. And then what is it like for us as we step out into the unknown?

  225. Whether that means in the room or crossing the see, what do we

  226. see in this passage? Well as ever.

  227. It's all about Jesus first see, Jesus sends out Pioneers where

  228. he will visit. I love that.

  229. The 72. Go ahead to every town and place

  230. where he was about to go. They ought to be the

  231. forerunners. Announcing Jesus is here,

  232. demonstrating his rule, but more than that, he sends them out

  233. together with a purpose. They're not sent alone.

  234. He understands the importance of going together of being

  235. community, and he Paints the picture of why they are to go.

  236. Why there is a harvest of souls waiting, to be gathered in

  237. nothing's changed. There's a harvest of souls

  238. waiting to be gathered in thirdly.

  239. Jesus gives them a choice. He says, you know, go on sending

  240. you buddy they then have to choose to go.

  241. Jesus says pray but then be an answer to your own prayers go

  242. but they still could say yes or no.

  243. What Adventures might just the disciples have missed.

  244. If they weren't willing to step out and go who might not have

  245. heard the good news fourthly. We see that.

  246. Jesus asks for a radical Reliance.

  247. Don't take stuff with. You don't get distracted on the

  248. way. Remember what this is all about?

  249. Preparing the way for me, he then gives them a strategy as

  250. well as sharing the why there's a harvest.

  251. He gives them a, how a plan to follow.

  252. And then he says, I am expecting them.

  253. You to see Miracles heal those who are ill on the journey,

  254. powerful wording, you go and heal, you go and demonstrate.

  255. Straight my rules. So they go out and return to

  256. Jesus with joy that even the demons submit to us.

  257. I like to think that Jesus smile.

  258. And then he reminds them of something that's deeper than

  259. their stories. He brings them back to what is

  260. important. Don't just Rejoice that demon

  261. submit to you rejoice. That your name is written in

  262. heaven. He says, your deepest.

  263. Joy is not in your achievement or even Miracles, but it's in

  264. your relationship with me. And what about you and me and

  265. what about one church? If that was, then that's the

  266. story we're reading in the Bible and the words come out the page

  267. and they come alive as a holy spirit brings different phrases

  268. to us. What About Us?

  269. Jesus is still calling for pioneers and then sending them

  270. out to make the way to do. What?

  271. They've not done before to step. Out is good.

  272. Yes. We encounter his presence.

  273. Yes. We Revel in his love and

  274. embrace. Yes we will keep the the wonder

  275. that we know him but then we remember he still calls us out

  276. to step out. So how do these verses impact

  277. us? And what Represent together

  278. today. Well, Jesus sends us out as

  279. Pioneers where he is going to visit.

  280. I think that phrase listen to that phrase.

  281. Go ahead to every town and place where I am about to go.

  282. I so powerful, you go, because I'm on my way to join you.

  283. Jesus has a plan. We are to go ahead.

  284. We are to be forerunners announcing.

  285. Jesus is here. What John the Baptist did is

  286. also the call of Our Lives. John went preparing the way for

  287. the Lord. After me is coming.

  288. Someone whose sandals. I am not worthy to untie.

  289. And here we are to go ahead. Announcing Jesus is here.

  290. Of course he's gone ahead of us as well.

  291. Susan's been having a lot of Dreams recently.

  292. She's been reading a great book by Pete, Grieg about hearing the

  293. voice of God. It's a really great read that

  294. book and how to pray by Pete Grieg.

  295. I recommend them both excellent books but she's been reading

  296. about having dreams and she's asked the law for more dreams

  297. and she's having lots of dreams and trying to see what God wants

  298. to say. But she had a dream of standing

  299. on a stone. And realizing that she had got

  300. to step out where there was no stone and seeing that picture.

  301. That as she stepped out the next part of the stones appeared, The

  302. path appeared where she would go and she felt the Lord speak to

  303. from Psalm 77. Which says this your road LED

  304. through the see your pathway was through the mighty Waters a

  305. pathway. No one knew was there, are we

  306. listening God's always got a plan?

  307. It's not necessarily the what you think is going to be you.

  308. Led your people along that road through the see, through the

  309. waters, like a flock of sheep with Moses and Aaron as their

  310. Shepherds, whatever obstacle, whatever challenge he knows.

  311. As the way through as a church, this means we're going to stay

  312. close to his heartbeat and do what he says he wants us to do,

  313. because he loves our city and county and he still has many

  314. people here that are going to find him.

  315. But Jesus also wants to visit your street and your neighbors

  316. and your family, your workplace, he has a plan and you are

  317. preparing the way. He's gone ahead of you.

  318. But listen also where I am about Go, you go.

  319. We'll look at how but it starts with the Revelation that the

  320. king is stepping in to where you are, Jesus sends us as Pioneers

  321. where he will visit. But more than that, he sends us

  322. out together with a purpose, Eugene Peterson, whose author of

  323. the message, paraphrase of the Bible.

  324. A translation is more linked to the text of paraphrase is often

  325. someone's interpretation of those texts and they can be very

  326. good. Good for Revelation, but I

  327. always recommend you read a translation of the Bible.

  328. Alongside a paraphrase of the Bible.

  329. That Eugene Peterson offered, the message, paraphrase of the

  330. Bible says this one of the immediate changes that the

  331. gospel makes is grammatical in our lives.

  332. We become we instead of I our instead of my us instead of me,

  333. I love that. And what a family we are.

  334. Pete Grieg writes, this about visiting a monkey and Owl

  335. Sanctuary on the Isle of Wight. I don't know, any of you been

  336. there to the monkey and Owl Sanctuary on the Isle of Wight.

  337. He says, for a start, he says why monkeys and owls together.

  338. He said he was a great place to go.

  339. Every animal had a plaque, telling a story of Abandonment

  340. and eccentricity tragedy and joy.

  341. There was the cross-eyed Gibbon whose legs were too short.

  342. The one eyed owl called Nelson, the rhesus monkey that kept

  343. slapping its keeper. The punk head, Maga Bay called

  344. Jimmy, who had been found loping along next to a busy, German

  345. Motorway. And the writer says this as we

  346. wandered around from one story and One cute face to the next.

  347. Something started to feel really familiar and dawned on me that

  348. it was a lot like the church a community of Oddities A

  349. menagerie of rescues a collection of broken backgrounds

  350. that would never Belong Together.

  351. That is if Jesus had not chosen the foolish and the weak and the

  352. lowly to shame the wise. He says we're an amazing

  353. collection of people and he's chosen us to be his family and

  354. yet we are the ones. He's chosen to step out and

  355. share him with the world. He is with us.

  356. And we go together, he sends us out with a purpose.

  357. The church is a family, it's care, it's confession, it's

  358. forgiveness, it's love, it's Grace, its support its

  359. acceptance, It's not judgmental. That's the group of people that

  360. we are called to be together. It's small groups.

  361. It's growing its connections. You know have somebody around

  362. for dinner soon. The church is to be a safe place

  363. and we're sent out He knows you and he knows me.

  364. And he walks with us. We're never alone, but we're

  365. called to go. And Jesus includes Us in this

  366. great Mission. It's about a harvest of people

  367. follow me. He says, and I will make you and

  368. then the Great Commission go and make a difference.

  369. How do we do this? He sends us out to love the

  370. poor, have a heart for the world.

  371. Celebrate other churches, preach the gospel, keep lost people in

  372. our hearts and our program. Be good news in the community

  373. before of Hope and go listening. And when he says go, we go We

  374. love people. We live in truth.

  375. We care. We don't discriminate.

  376. We pray for others. Where great neighbors were

  377. great. Employees were good.

  378. Friends were loyal. We're available and we say, here

  379. I am. You don't have to be answer able

  380. to answer every question or to be perfect as an evangelist.

  381. You just have to be willing to go.

  382. I love that you've come up now Jason perhaps about a couple of

  383. minutes early but I love that you're here.

  384. I obviously gave you a wave that I scratch, my nose and I became

  385. a keep going because I love it. I had two amazing conversations

  386. last week the place where Susan and I went on holiday has a gym

  387. and a spa next to it and I go in there and I believe to sit with

  388. someone and have an opportunity. It goes like this.

  389. You go and sit down. Someone's there.

  390. Hello, what you been doing today?

  391. All that sounds a great day. What have you been today?

  392. All? We've been doing this.

  393. Yeah. Yes.

  394. What are you did that as a career?

  395. That's interesting. What you do?

  396. I lead a church or what's that like?

  397. Oh let me tell you about the visit and the conversation

  398. starts and I love it. I pursue conversations with

  399. people to give them a different picture about Jesus.

  400. I talked to a manager just being diagnosed with the second batch

  401. of cancer. Talk to me about hope, talk to

  402. another man who is very scientific and didn't believe

  403. Anything, but I encouraged him to go away and think again, and

  404. he sends us out with a purpose. But Jesus also gives us a choice

  405. like he did. I'm sending you Among Wolves but

  406. you've got this Choice. Do you want to do it?

  407. The extent to, which will be true Pioneers for Jesus and live

  408. the life for us to live. Depends on how much we say yes

  409. to him. You can just be a Pew filler a

  410. seat filler. Come and go.

  411. That's it. Or you can say I'm willing to

  412. go, you know, if the hole wider Church of Jesus becomes more

  413. bothered about Services than people or businesses, Buildings

  414. than Community. We miss the heart of God.

  415. This is a family of Believers. We are called to love him and

  416. love people to stay together. And to go, you know, in part of

  417. his church here, we've got a choice in.

  418. We say again, there's no place for religion.

  419. Here, there's no room for Idols here.

  420. There's no place for Superstars here.

  421. There's no time for Pride here. No, look at us, aren't we?

  422. Great. But there's lots of time for

  423. Jesus. And more love of people.

  424. And the words I shared on January the first about more

  425. Purity, more humility more about others, more unity and more

  426. grace. And you and me.

  427. We've got this Choice. It gives us a choice.

  428. You live, where you live to be a light.

  429. Those neighbors that you're there to reach them your work

  430. where you work is so that you can be a light, your family is a

  431. place where he wants you to be a light.

  432. The first thing you needs from us is here, I am available to

  433. you. He then is the door own.

  434. Philip were on our podcast last week from the OB site told a

  435. story that deeply impacted me when they organized through our

  436. tops groups, a trip to Belton house, and, and Tom and feel

  437. love belt and how so many happy memories, When the kids were

  438. little, but it was really difficult to fill the boss.

  439. Don't you remember that? I think it may have been that

  440. who when they got there and it was a long way from the car park

  441. to the place. And there's only one Lou, I

  442. think it was Matt, or someone said, have you heard of Abby

  443. Park, it's much easier and they came back to your, it was hard

  444. to fill it hard and it wasn't the greatest trip.

  445. But some months later months and months afterwards, she sat with

  446. a Muslim friend, That's about to be led to Jesus and the lady

  447. says do you remember that time you organize that trip?

  448. And we went as a family to belt and house.

  449. I'll never forget how precious that was to me.

  450. I love it. Gives us a choice when we make

  451. ourselves available. He does amazing things.

  452. Jesus sends us out as Pioneers where he's going to visit.

  453. He sends us together, he gives us a choice and then he asked

  454. for radical Reliance to trust him on the journey to realize

  455. that we can't do it without him. Listen.

  456. The Lord has given me natural gifts, but I want to tell you I

  457. cannot lead without him. I cannot lead this work without

  458. him. I can't bring Vision without

  459. him. I can do nothing without him.

  460. But you and I we can do all things through Christ who gives

  461. us strength. This is the Journey of Faith.

  462. This is the what it means to be called a Pioneer, we're relying

  463. on him here. We're aiming and trying to be

  464. obedient in the little to fill his call.

  465. Trusting him in every season when we've got the answers.

  466. And when it's difficult when were hurting and when were

  467. running, Give me a Pioneer heart.

  471. She was going like a bomb. Like I was exhausted looking at

  472. but I felt intimidated, he's just going.

  473. And I said to her and you know, hello.

  475. In January, 5, K every day in January to raise.

  476. As money for tier van, I said, oh Christian, charity said, oh

  477. yes, I said, are you a Jesus followers?

  478. She says, I am and all my family is, we love Jesus.

  479. And I said, how did you become a Christian?

  480. And she said, we all became a Christian in the Methodist

  481. Children's Program when we were little and someone had written

  482. those materials and we all got saved as a family and they were

  483. all there. She was there with her brothers

  484. and sisters and How to talk about the Methodist church and

  485. we pray for it today. Fire come again at the Spirit of

  486. John that impacted. John Wesley come upon the

  487. Methodist Church dealing with liberalism and criticism.

  488. May they be of the fire of God again but what she was, she was

  489. relying on him. I was inspired with by this

  490. lady. A Pioneer steps out, a Pioneer

  491. steps out, Jesus gives us a strategy he said to them Go go.

  492. Go now would go it do this to the he gives us a strategy and

  505. without him. Honestly kneeling down at the

  506. top of that mountain. Last Sunday, thinking of all the

  507. Lord has done in the last 12 months in our house.

  508. Thank you. Thank you.

  509. To you be all the glory. I know it starts with prayer but

  510. he's going to require you to step out expecting miracles on

  511. the way. When all this has happened, he's

  512. going to bring us back to what's most important, where does our

  513. worth and value? Come from.

  591. only free, but bring into a time of light and blessing, and joy,

  592. the name of Jesus or just as you stand those, the musicians, come

  593. back on the stage. We're going to worship as we
