The Gospel Is...: The Simplicity Of The Gospel | Ps Daz Chettle

It's lovely to be here. Thank you guys

for uh having me. Uh we've had we've had

a couple of cool days. Friday night was

super fun. The uh men's breakfast

yesterday was pretty raw. It's pretty

real. It's pretty in your face, but I

think it's time for men to be men.

>> And uh you know, not just rock up at

church on Sunday and lift holy hands.

Actually have holy hands during the

week. Amen. Um, hey, I've got a photo of

my beautiful family to show you. That's

cool. So, uh, we took that at Christmas.

That's my daughter over there. And I

said, shy, like, I'll give you $20 if

you smile.

That's definitely not a $20 smile.

So, that uh my little boy Benji, my wee

boy there, and my beautiful wife,

they've just landed uh an hour ago in

Sydney. I haven't seen them for 10 days.

So, I'm very excited this afternoon to

to see my little boy and my wife. It's

going to be awesome. And uh I was uh in

Melbourne before I came here and uh on

the uh Easter Friday, I saw 750 people

get baptized. That's a lot of people,

man. It was so amazing at Frankston

Beach. It was It was really, really

special. Really, really beautiful. But

today, I want to I want to sort of

encourage you to shine Jesus every day.

>> But here's the deal. You can't give what

you haven't got. And and I want to I

want to help you with that today. I

believe God wants to invade your life so

you're never the same again. I'm I'm

about to say like I had a communication

coach and he traveled with me for a few

years and he said, "Look, your first

minute is is so important whether people

will like you or not." So, I'm about to

say something that you might not like me

after I say this.

Are you ready?

Are you sure?

If your Christian life is boring,

that's because you're boring.

You have God living inside of you.

>> We're not supposed to live these

comfortable Christian lives. If you're

living this life of just Christian

comfort, then there's actually no need

for the comforter.

All he wants

is all of you. And he'll do something so

beautiful when he really gets a hold of

you. So this morning, my message is the

simplicity of the gospel because I think

so often we can over complicate the

gospel. Actually, before I do that, I've

got some books. I've actually got my

friend here too, my caregiver. Um, so

this is Lee now. Stand up, Lee. Lee,

stand up.

This is Lee.

So, uh, Lee's going to be sharing

tonight of his story. It is very

powerful. And if there was ever a night

5:00 service tonight, it's 5:00. If

there was ever a night to to put the

remote down and don't worry about

Netflix, don't worry about the NRL or

the AFL or the PWL or whatever else you

watch. Tonight is the night to invite

someone and come to church.

>> Because I'm telling you, tonight, if you

bring people tonight, they'll get saved.

Why do I say that? Because when the

gospel's preached, the gospel happens.

Amen.

>> So your job today is to invite people

tonight and the least story will really

impact your life. So this book here,

it's called The Lonely Pulpit. It's

pretty much I I released it a couple of

months ago. Uh it's a snapshot of what

ministry looks like um as an itinerate

preacher over the last nine years. The

good, the bad, and there's a little bit

of the ugly in here. So uh is anyone in

the room I'm going to give this to

someone. And by the way, they're out

there. They're $25. I've got my other

book, The Pub to the Pull Pit. I do not

want to take them home. So, you buying

them actually helps us do what we do.

you actually feel the call of God to be

see that that that's on you because I

righty. So, I was thinking, what's a

cool story? I I woke up at 4:00 am

because my body clock is still in New

Zealand time and and I went for a we

drive and and I and I was thinking,

what's a cool story that that paints a a

a good picture of the simplicity of the

gospel? And I got one. So Breezy and I,

my wife and I, we got invited. I'm with

New Life Churches in New Zealand,

ordained and credentialed. So you can go

fuel, he's not going to do anything

outrageous. That's good. Uh and so we we

got invited to this retreat, a pastor's

retreat, uh with all of our pastors and

and we were staying at this like it was

like cabins, a camping ground and the

food, oh my goodness, the food was so

bad. Like it was like it was like prison

food. Well, not that I really know, but

uh but it was so bad. It was like

rubber. And after a few days, and it

went for a week, I said to Bri, I said,

"Hey, look, I'm worried about the food."

And she said, "Why?" And I said, "Well,

I haven't been eating it and I'm just

getting quite thin and I'm wondering if

I could get fish and chips." And uh cuz

Bree's very healthy. And she said,

"Yeah, okay. We can get you some fish

and chips." It probably You probably

sound a wee bit different to me, don't

you? Fish and chips. Anyway, so we go to

the fish and chip shop and uh and I

order the food and then we go back to

the the camp where where I'm staying and

I and I start opening it up and I'm Oh,

this is going to be really good. It's

like it's like almost like breaking a

fast really. And I was very excited. I

went to grab my phone and I realized I

didn't have my phone on me. My phone

wasn't in my pocket. And I said to

Breezy, "Oh, have you got my phone?" And

she said, "No." And so we rang it and no

one answered.

And so I'm sitting there and I thought I

left it at the fish and chip shop and I

said, "Breezy, I reckon someone at the

fish and chip shop's taking my phone. I

got a plan." And she's actually the the

ideas filter in the marriage. Breezy is

she's definitely the ideas filter cuz I

said, "What we're going to do, we're

going to go back to the fish and chip

shop. We're going to walk in. You're

going to ring my phone. I'm going to

hear it ringing. I'm going to jump over

the counter. The counter's that high. I

didn't kind of think how I'm going to do

that, but I'm going to jump over the

counter and then grab my phone and then

share the gospel with them. I said,

"This is going to be a winner." And

she's going, "Oh my goodness." So, we we

get there and she rings the phone and we

can't hear it. I go, "Ring it again.

Ring it again." So, she rings the phone

again. This time, someone answers it.

How's it? And Breezy goes, "Oh, hi.

You've got my husband's phone." And the

guy goes, "Oh, you Well, where are you?

because we'd like to come and get it.

And he told us where he was. He was

working on on on doing some roing. So,

we drive around and I get out of the car

and I walk over to him and I go, "Hey,

bro. Thank you so much, man. You got my

phone?" He goes, "Oh, yeah." And I said,

"Um, where was it?" He goes, "Oh, it was

on the counter at the fish and chip

shop." I said, "Oh, okay. Cool." I said,

"Bro,

you stole my phone." He goes, "Yeah, I

wanted an iPhone, eh?"

Hello? I said, "Why did you answer it

then?" And he said, "Because every time

it would ring, this was your screen

saver."

You see the simplicity of the gospel.

We over complicate it. WE OVER

COMPLICATE IT. ISN'T it interesting that

THE THIEF ON THE CROSS DIDN'T TICK ALL

OF OUR BOXES? HE DIDN'T SAY THE SINNER'S

PRAYER. DO YOU KNOW THE SINNER'S PRAYER

IS NOT EVEN IN THE BIBLE. WE MADE IT UP

80 YEARS AGO.

It's about heart.

THIS WHOLE THING CALLED CHRISTIANITY.

IT'S ABOUT HEART. AND HE, BY THE WAY, HE

DOESN'T SEE YOU GUYS as Christians.

That's an intentional pause. It's called

the power of the pause. I just did it.

He sees you as sons and daughters.

He's aba father. He loves you.

And the gospel is not the gospel without

sin,

without repentance,

without heaven and hell. And I think

sometimes we be we can become so numb to

the truth of the gospel and and that

really scares me, man.

You know, there's people in your world,

possibly people in this room, if you

were to die today.

It wouldn't be a good day.

You see, there's a lot of people in the

room that they'll know a lot about

Jesus. And they'll sing the songs,

you're worthy of it all. And and that's

cool for Sunday, but what does Monday

look like?

What would our little lives look like if

we actually live those songs that we

sing?

Because I don't believe I share the

gospel because I'm an evangelist at all.

I think that's a life in the pit of

hell.

I simply share the gospel because he's

worthy to be talked about.

The job of the evangelist is to equip

the church. The job of the of the Bible

believing Christians is to

share Jesus wherever we go.

I remember and and I was thinking about

this when I was speaking to Pastor Miles

about coming. Miles is such a champion

man. I met him in Lagos, Nigeria at

Reinhard Bonkey's farewell. 750,000

people in attendance. That's quite a

lot.

So I met him there and uh he he actually

organized we weren't allowed to leave

the the base where where we're staying

because it's very dangerous obviously.

and and Miles organized he organized uh

taxis and then he organized a boat. So

we jump in these taxis then we go to the

harbor. We jump in a boat to go surfing.

It was so cool. It was so cool. It was

so dangerous but it was so cool. Yeah. I

love him. I love him heaps. So a few

years ago I was preaching at Lachlan

Jones's church. You know you guys know

Locky. He's a really really really close

friend of mine. So, I was preaching this

church and on the morning then uh at

Elevation Gold Coast um Sunday night.

So, I had a little bit of downtime and I

got a little video I'm going to play and

I think it's a perfect video for this

church, hence elevation. And uh so I

went I was with a maid and we go and

jump in the pool. We have a swim and

then we jump in the spa pool, this

outdoor spa where I've staying and we're

just kind of chilling out before the

night service at Elevation on the Gold

Coast. And uh and we're in the pool just

talking. Then two ladies come in the

pool and we're just chatting and one of

them goes, "Oh, to me, what do you do

for a job?" And I said, "Oh, I'm a

preacher." She said, "Really? You don't

look like a preacher." And I said,

"Well, I'm I'm an undercover one." And

and she said, "Oh, tell me your story."

And I said, "No, no, no. Come to church

tonight just down the road at Elevation

and I'll I'll tell you the story then."

And she goes, "Oh, no, no. We're here uh

we're here to party and we're here to do

this and that." I said, "Oh, that's

cool." And she said, "Please tell me the

story." And I said, "No, come to church.

You got to come to church." And I said,

"No, no, we're not come to church." And

her friend wasn't that keen at all. Like

every time I was talking, her friend was

doing those sides like,

so I knew she wasn't digging me at all.

And that's okay. It is what it is.

>> Takes all types. And uh so as I get out

of the pool, the friend that doesn't

really like me goes, "Oh man, my back."

So, as I get out of the pool, I just

grab her hand and I said, "Give me a

hand." I grab it and I say, "Jesus, I

ask you to heal her back, Lord, but more

importantly, heal heal her heart in your

precious eyes open. When you're praying

for someone, keep your eyes open. You

don't want to miss a miracle. Keep your

eyes open." So, I had my eyes open. I

said, "Jesus name." I said, "See you

tonight, ladies." And they said, "No,

no, we're not coming." And it's gone.

>> So, we'll play this little video from

preaching at uh Elevation Gold Coast.

>> Bang. I didn't I didn't grab your back

down, but I grabbed your hand and

started praying for it.

>> And the sparkle, that's normal

Christianity, man.

>> Because I BELIEVE THERE'S A LIVING GOD

THAT LIVES INSIDE ME AND HE WANTS OUT.

>> COME ON.

>> BUT YOU CAN'T GIVE WHAT YOU HAVEN'T GOT.

>> BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL SEE RIGHT THROUGH

IT. YOU can tell a fake mile.

>> Oh, they're here. Hey, this is my free

time.

>> Well, that could have gone awkward.

>> BUT YOU SEE, THAT'S NORMAL CHRISTIANITY.

>> THAT'S JUST LOVING TWO PEOPLE THAT ARE

IN A POLE.

Beautiful. E,

so the the beautiful thing about that

night is I did an alter call like I'm

going to do in about 15 minutes. I'm

doing an alter call in here. If you're

in here today and you need to get right

with God, if you've never given your

life to Jesus, if you're feeling trapped

in sin and lost, today is your day.

Today is your day. So, I didn't the

solder call and uh they were the first

two people that responded, kneeling

down, tears pouring down their cheeks.

You see, that started in a spa pool a

few hours earlier. That's the simplicity

of the gospel.

I want to read you a poem. Who likes

poems?

I don't look like the poetry type, do I?

Here's a poem. It's called My Friend. My

friend, I stand in judgment now, and I

feel that you are to blame somehow. On

earth, I walked with you by day, but

never did you show me the way. You knew

the Savior in truth and glory, but never

did you tell me his story. My knowledge

then was very dim, but you could have

led me safe to him. Although we lived

together here on earth, you never talked

to me about a second birth. And now I

stand before eternal hell. Because of

heaven's glory, you did not tell.

This is pretty real, eh?

Is what you're living for

worth what Christ died for?

You see, all he wants

is all of you.

And often I'm in a different church

pretty much every weekend. Well, most

weekends.

And often when I'm talking and doing

that poem and

being quite real, it offends people

because it offends the lifestyle that so

many Christians are living in.

Do you know the Bible says if you are

lukewarm,

he will vomit you from his mouth.

You see, often we we kind of forget

about this and we lock ourselves into

YouTube or podcast

and we start feeding on that. What I I'm

not saying, don't hear what I'm not

saying. I'm not saying podcast and

YouTube's bad, but what I am saying is

this book here is way better.

Your paper Bible, there's some and I

know you do your apps and everything.

Praise God. Great. But this here is

precious to me, man. If you don't want

to become a Christian flake, you need to

be stuck in this word. This is the word

of God. People often say to me, "How do

you hear from God?" And not even being

cheeky, I say, "I read the word."

>> Hello.

Word of God, daily bread.

>> And I encourage you to get your the

app's cool. I personally not an app kind

of guy because when I read this, I don't

get distracted with notifications.

This has got a good battery life.

Wouldn't it be interesting if this book

here had a like our phones do screen

time for screen time for the week?

Wouldn't it be interesting how much time

we spend in here per week? It's pretty

important, man.

This is what the Bible says.

For God so loved the world, he didn't

just love you. We so loved you that he

gave his only actually just on that he

gave you know the the DNA of a

bibleelving bornagain spiritfilled

Christian we should be the most generous

people in Sydney we should be known for

our generosity

cuz that's the DNA that we've been

birthed into through Christ for God so

loved the world that he gave his only

begotten son that Whoever are you a

whoever

that whoever would believe in him would

not perish that means go to hell

just keeping it real but have

everlasting life

you know those those times where Holy

Ghost will

he'll just put someone on your heart or

those times where you'll you'll just be

thinking I I really need to reach out to

so so and so or I I need to I need to do

this or I need to do that. There are

those moments when Holy Ghost is

speaking to you to go and do something

to impact someone's life. And sometimes

it's not going to be easy. It's not

supposed to be easy and sometimes it's

going to cost.

There's a cost to this. The Bible says

pick up your cross

daily. cross is a is a instrument of

execution.

It's not a handbag. Pick up your cross.

So there's things that Holy Ghost is

going to ask us to do and want us to do.

And I believe with all my heart success

in the kingdom of God is obedience.

I came over to I come over to Oz quite a

bit preaching and I I one of the trips I

I bought this surfboard and and because

you can't get it in New Zealand and it

was like my like my fave. It was just so

amazing and it was quite expensive and

you buy all the bits and pieces with it

and and so I was very excited about it.

I surfed it a couple of times on the

Gold Coast and then took it home and

when I got home I I felt God say you

need to give that away.

And I didn't think that was a great

idea.

I said, "I'm not sure about that one."

He said, "You need to give it away." And

I don't know about you, do you ever

negotiate with God?

>> Yeah. Well, I do. And uh I said, "Well,

why don't I give two of my older ones

away?

Then the person will get two or we can

bless two people. That makes sense."

Hey,

he said, "Give it away."

And for a week,

every time I'd look at it, I knew it

wasn't mine anymore. So I I made myself

text the guy and go, "Hey, bro, I've got

something for you." Because I I knew if

I text him, I'll do it. As Christians,

we need to make sure our yes is our yes

and our no is our no.

>> Let's not be flakes. And uh here's a

little story

about that surfboard I gave away.

I I was over in Aussie preaching and I I

bought a surfboard, sitting on my chair

and I was just looking at the boards and

I felt the Lord say, "You need to give

that away." Like this thing, I've surfed

it two times. It's immaculate. And I

thought, "No, no, no, no, no, no. That

was not God. That was not God. If that's

God, I need 16 confirmations. That was

not God." And I kind of wrestled with it

for about a week, and I've got older

ones. He wouldn't know. He He doesn't

know. He said, and I was just wrestling,

wrestling, wrestling cuz it was a

condition of the heart. So then I'm

thinking, what have I done? What have I

done? I've given away my best surfboard.

How ridiculous. And he rang me. He said,

"I just need to know one thing. Did God

tell you to give me that surfboard?" I

said, "100%." I said, "Actually, bro, I

really didn't want to. It took a week

for me to actually give it to you, man."

>> Yeah. when you gave me the board, it's

like that just felt like super generous,

but I couldn't understand why am I

getting a board? Like I don't deserve

it. As a week later, I had a call from a

neurosurgeon just saying, "There's a

tumor on your brain. We better operate

on it."

At the time that you gave me the board,

I didn't, you know, I didn't know what

was coming. I had an MRI a month before.

At the time that you gave me the board,

there was kind of nothing going on

except I had some symptoms there. I

actually felt a lot of tension within me

because I'm like, I'm not actually

worthy of this gift. And as as you know,

I didn't want to take it. And then um as

a week later, I had a call from a

neurosurgeon just saying, "Look, there's

a tumor on your brain. We better operate

on it." I said, "Well, I'm going on a

plane in a couple of weeks." He said,

"Well, you'll probably die if you go on

the plane or

>> something bad will happen. You better

not go." As a father, I felt like he

said, "Hey,

I'm giving you the board for a reason.

You're going to go through something,

but regardless, the board is there as

evidence to say one day you'll surf on

that again." I was in hospital a few

months. I lost control of everything in

my ability. I had to be turned over for

a few months with by nurses. I couldn't

move much. I had to really learn how to

well I had to learn how to balance again

or sit up without flopping over. Um then

how to how to walk. I just thought one

day I'll surf on that board again. It

doesn't matter how long it'll take.

>> Yeah.

>> I'll surf on that board again.

>> As a father is speaking to me saying,

"Hey, you're okay, son. You you you'll

be okay." I think I would be a bit of a

mess if it wasn't for that board. And I

just feel like, man, I'm so privileged

to have this awful experience happen,

but God's been with me in this. And so

the the board is just that evidence of

his love to me.

>> Wow.

>> I do not know how I would be without

that board. Um, honestly, and I'm

grateful for people that can hear God

and respond to prophetic words and act

on that. I'm grateful for what Daz did.

Actually,

>> have you stood up on that surfboard

that's sitting behind?

>> I have uh for

>> split seconds.

>> Doesn't matter.

>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, I've taken it out

a few times. I It takes me a lot of

energy to get out in the surf these

days, which is amazing. I I didn't even

think I would ever surf again except for

that promise.

So he he he couldn't even have sheets on

his body in the hospital because of the

brain injury cuz the sheets would hurt

his skin. But he he had that that and

the doctors are saying really bad news

to him. But he had that surfboard in the

corner of his room in the hospital and

he kept looking at that board going,

"God, you've told me that I'll surf on

that again. So you're telling me that

I'm going to walk again?" It was that

surfboard that that little we surfboard.

It's just such a small thing in the big

picture, but it was that board that got

him through the most horrendous season

of his life with his brain tumor. How

good is God?

So when he prompts you, you need to step

into it. I don't know about you, but I

would way rather be wet in the arms of

Jesus than dry sitting in a boat.

We're going to um

we're going to sing that song again,

worthy of it all.

And I want you to check your heart.

I want you to look at the condition of

your heart.

I want you to look at your lifestyle

and does your lifestyle back up your

belief system. See, you may be in here

and you may be one of the leaders, but

you know you're not living how you need

to be living. You know, everyone's so

after revival.

I went to Brownsville twice

standing in a line to get into a church

at 7:00 in the morning till you're in

there all day till they open the doors

at 6:30 at night. I get what revival is.

I've seen it with my own eyes.

The key to revival is repentance

and getting this thing here called heart

right.

And I know some of you are going to go,

"Oh, I'm sorted on the way home. I don't

need to do it publicly." Jesus died on

the cross publicly for you.

And you may be thinking, "Well, I don't

want people to know, and that's a bit of

a secret area in my life, and this and

that."

If pride

can kick an angel out of heaven, an

archangel, a beautiful archangel called

Lucifer. If pride can kick an archangel

out of heaven, what on earth could pride

do in a broken heart? Don't let pride

rob you this morning.

So, we're going to sing. I want you to

just focus on Jesus. Check the condition

of your heart. And then I'm after we

stop singing, I'm going to give you an

opportunity to stand up. And for some of

you, it's going to be super scary. For

others, you you'll as you change your

posture

and come forward,

you'll feel the chains and the shackles

break cuz he's a good good father.
