  1. introduce our [music] guest speaker

  2. today. I kind of feel like when I first

  3. met Bonnie, she was way above my league

  4. mate and and I feel that God's brought a

  5. great man of God, a humble servant of

  6. the Lord in Mark Verge to minister

  7. [music] to us as quite a very

  8. significant special day for us. Uh Mark

  9. is the founder and global pastor of city

  10. [music] uh kingdom city all over the

  11. world. 22 nations. I think they'll hit

  12. 30 by the end of the year. uh 45

  13. locations, 70,000 people. But here's

  14. what's astounding. They're in revival in

  15. just 20 short years. It is nothing short

  16. [music] of a move of God. And you just

  17. see the influence of Kingdom City across

  18. nations. It's astounding. And we get the

  19. great honor to have him minister to us

  20. [music] today. But also the behind the

  21. scenes story um is I've often showed

  22. this photo of a a vision or a dream that

  23. God gave me of this waterfall and it's

  24. really [music] impacted my life over the

  25. last couple of months and our church

  26. actually it's why we got the series near

  27. it was was out of what happened here and

  28. this image is the Holy Spirit the power

  29. the magnets magnificent God mighty

  30. powerful just pouring his spirit out

  31. he's big he's bigger than [music] your

  32. problem. He He's bigger than your

  33. biggest fear. He's bigger than your

  34. biggest worry. He's He's a big God. He

  35. wants to pour his spirit out. He wants

  36. to fill you. And this is a representing

  37. of me and our church that that we're

  38. just humbly, unassumingly, God, fill us.

  39. God, we're here. Not not in a big crowd,

  40. but we're just worshiping, surrendering,

  41. hungry for God. And then what you don't

  42. see is the streams of living water that

  43. come out [music] and just fill the

  44. barren land. and see souls saved and

  45. lives changed. Well, this came [music]

  46. to me when I was at a conference and the

  47. guest speaker spoke a powerful word on

  48. faith and something triggered in me. I I

  49. can't put words on it. I don't know how

  50. or why, but that message just gripped me

  51. and I found myself up the front at the

  52. altar, hands raised, just being filled,

  53. got that dream, got that vision just

  54. stirred and just started me on a

  55. journey. Well, the speaker of the night

  56. and the person praying was Mark Vergeis

  57. and and that moment a couple months back

  58. in Adelaide marked me and he became the

  59. loudest voice in my leadership of church

  60. that I have. What does that mean? Well,

  61. I I got every podcast I could find. I I

  62. I read his book. I I I I watched his

  63. messages [music]

  64. and I even pursued a coach to be coached

  65. by David [music] Stora uh who was his

  66. pastor because I was just so hungry for

  67. what God [music] was doing. So it wasn't

  68. so much I don't want to give glory to a

  69. man. I want to give glory to God what

  70. God is doing through a man. And I

  71. believe this is a significant moment for

  72. us as a church. And this message is one

  73. that I want us to lean [music] into. Let

  74. God speak to you today.

  75. Let God minister [music] to you today.

  76. And let this be a word of the Lord for

  77. us

  78. >> as a church. All our six locations.

  79. We're recording [music] this message

  80. that'll go out that we can be aligned,

  81. unified as God takes us into our next

  82. step. Who's excited to hear the word of

  83. the Lord? Who's excited to hear God

  84. minister to us through his servant? Can

  85. you all stand and honor God's word?

  86. Honor God's servant, but most of all,

  87. honor the King of Kings and the Lord of

  88. Lords.

  89. [music]

  90. Well, welcome to church. Everyone doing

  91. all right.

  92. >> Can you help me welcome everyone around

  93. Australia as well? Give a big hand to

  94. everyone in Canes, in Sydney, at the

  95. hills, in Penri, in Manra and in

  96. Melbourne, and everyone in the Gold

  97. Coast as well. Um, it's a delight. It's

  98. a huge honor to be here. Can you also

  99. show some love to your pastors, Miles

  100. and Bonnie and to all the pastors around

  101. Australia as well. Grateful for you.

  102. Very humbled to be here and to add a

  103. little piece to this amazing church and

  104. what God has done done. You might be new

  105. in any of the locations. You might be

  106. new here. And um, this is a great place

  107. to call home. If you're looking for a

  108. home, it's important you have a home.

  109. And I want to encourage you to do that.

  110. But while we're standing, I'd love to

  111. pray. Can we do that? We pray together.

  112. Father, I thank you that you are

  113. omniresent. Which means wherever two or

  114. three are gathered, you were already

  115. there. But Father, let's let our

  116. awareness be shifted toward you. Let us

  117. not become aware of every other

  118. distraction and every other objection.

  119. But Lord, we just open our hearts to be

  120. totally receptive to you. Thank you for

  121. Elevation Church. Thank you for all the

  122. pastors and all the locations. Thank you

  123. for what you're doing in 2026.

  124. Lord, we bring our faith from the past

  125. and we pull it in from the future and we

  126. anchor it in the present right now. That

  127. God, this moment you would speak to the

  128. unique circumstances of everyone, the

  129. young, the old, the rich, the poor.

  130. Lord, every color, every creed, every

  131. tribe, every tongue. You are God over

  132. all. Father, I pray those who don't know

  133. you will something would come alive in

  134. their heart. They would come alive to

  135. know that you are real and God that

  136. there's a plan and a purpose for every

  137. person. No coincidence. Everyone was

  138. meant to be in the room today. So have

  139. your way. Have your say in Jesus name we

  140. pray. And everyone said amen.

  141. >> Amen. Wonderful. Can you give the Lord

  142. just one more shout of praise? That's

  143. it. Give him an offering of thanksgiving

  144. and expression.

  145. And then after you've done that, high

  146. five your neighbor. Say hi to two or

  147. three people. And then you may please

  148. take your seats.

  149. I want to add to this incredible vision

  150. you have for this year about making

  151. room. You know, I'm reminded when God

  152. turned up on earth, a virgin by the name

  153. of Mary was supernaturally

  154. impregnated by the spirit of God and

  155. Jesus growing within the womb of a woman

  156. confined to human flesh. Divine God

  157. turned up as a baby. And you know, you

  158. would think out of all the births in the

  159. history of the world, this would be the

  160. most significant one. And yet when Mary

  161. and Joseph responding to a census go

  162. back to Bethlehem and uh looking for a

  163. place all they got told was because of

  164. the crowds there was no room everywhere.

  165. No room. No room. No room. No room. And

  166. one inkeeper

  167. who should be given the greatest pay

  168. rise in employment history

  169. found room.

  170. >> He made room. It was only a stable. But

  171. let me tell you, God does not fuss where

  172. he turns up.

  173. >> And when you make room, he'll turn up

  174. >> in in the humble context of your world

  175. and your life. And you know, I've been

  176. to Israel and now the most famous

  177. birthplace of inevits.

  178. You know, you go to Israel now, there's

  179. three places where apparently Jesus was

  180. born and you're like, which one? Can you

  181. decide between you, but they all want to

  182. make money and they all, you know,

  183. touristically converted their spot into,

  184. no, he was born here and now he's and I

  185. went to all three and I'm like, Lord, I

  186. don't know where you were born, but

  187. whatever. I'll

  188. And yet at the time, only one person was

  189. willing to make room.

  190. You know, in hindsight, there'll be

  191. amazing stories that come out of 2026.

  192. But in the moment, it's a sacrifice to

  193. make some room.

  194. >> And yes, make room is an invitation

  195. personally to enlarge the space. But

  196. Isaiah 54 speaks not just of a personal

  197. willingness to make room, but a

  198. corporate willingness to make room.

  199. Enlarge the place of your tent. Let them

  200. stretch out. More will be the children

  201. of the desolate than the children of the

  202. married woman. That's that's incredible.

  203. That that's God saying have some faith

  204. and when you make some room I can

  205. actually fill it. And I want to speak

  206. for a few minutes today about making

  207. room in the context of Elevation Church

  208. in the context of us together. Your

  209. pastors in all the cities have not asked

  210. me to speak this. This is if you're mad

  211. at this message direct it purely at me

  212. not your pastors. They didn't tell me

  213. and they may after this sermon have to

  214. fix a lot of things. But I want to speak

  215. from John chapter 21. And the principle

    John 21 chapter mention

  216. of making room is illustrated in this

  217. story where the disciples go fishing

  218. after Jesus had died. They think he's

  219. permanently dead. He rose from the

  220. grave, but they didn't know it. And so

  221. then Simon Peter says to them, verse

  222. three of chapter 21, Simon Peter said to

  223. them, I'm going fishing. They say, we're

  224. going with you. They went out that

  225. night. They caught nothing. Deja vu.

  226. Because this happened earlier in their

  227. lives. But when the morning had now

  228. come, Jesus stood on the shore. Yet the

  229. disciples didn't know it was Jesus

  230. because they thought he was dead. Then

  231. Jesus says to them, "Children, do you

  232. got anything?" And they said, "Nah." I'm

  233. just paraphrasing here. And he said to

  234. them, "Cast the net on the right side of

  235. the boat and you will find some." So

  236. they cast, and now they were not able to

  237. draw it in because of the multitude of

  238. fish. I want you to pay attention to one

  239. little side tangental thought this

  240. morning. you know, they were not able to

  241. catch any fish.

  242. Then Jesus turns up, does a miracle, and

  243. there's too many fish. Now they're not

  244. able to bring the net in. It's so

  245. refreshing to know we're always not

  246. able. Whether there's nothing going on,

  247. we're not able. Or whether there's too

  248. much going on, we're not able. God, I'm

  249. so lonely. Give me someone. You need

  250. God. God, I'm married with too many

  251. kids. I need you. You always need God.

  252. Whether you got nothing going on or too

  253. much going on, God, you know, I remember

  254. a guy who got prayer in our church in

  255. Botswana many years ago. There's a small

  256. testimony, but it stuck with me because

  257. our pastor told the story about how he

  258. came forward for prayer like you guys

  259. would probably at the end of service. He

  260. came forward and our pastor there, he

  261. said, "What do you need prayer for?" He

  262. says, "I run a production company and

  263. I've got no business. The bills are

  264. getting high. I I'm could go under." So,

  265. he prays a simple prayer for him. Lord,

  266. just provide. Anyway, about four weeks

  267. later, he sees the same guy coming

  268. forward for prayer again, and he

  269. remembers, "Oh, that's the guy with the

  270. production business. I wonder if he's

  271. doing all right. He must be still

  272. struggling. He's come for prayer again."

  273. So, he said, "Yeah, how's your business?

  274. Is still struggling?" He goes, "No, no."

  275. He goes, "Why are you up for prayer?"

  276. "Well, when you prayed last time, so

  277. much business came in. I need prayer now

  278. because I can't handle it. It's too

  279. much."

  280. And I thought, wow, isn't that a

  281. beautiful picture of there's no season

  282. where you don't walk to the front.

  283. Whether you got nothing going on or you

  284. got too much going on, we're always

  285. dependent on God. Never graduate from

  286. dependency on God.

  287. >> You might say, I've been a Christian for

  288. many decades. You still need God as much

  289. today as you needed him when he's pulled

  290. you out of hell. Because God is always

  291. the oxygen, the sustenance, the origin.

  292. He's not just the Genesis, he's the

  293. revelation. He's just not the first,

  294. he's the last. He's not just the

  295. beginning, he's the end.

  296. >> And so the disciples find themselves

  297. unable. And that's just a good thing. If

  298. you're a disciple, just be comfortable

  299. with being unable. I'm unable to catch

  300. fish. I'm unable to draw in the net.

  301. Either way, God's involved. I still need

  302. him. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved,

  303. verse seven, says to Peter, "It's the

  304. Lord." Now Simon Peter heard it was the

  305. Lord and he put on his outer garment for

  306. he had removed it and plunged into the

  307. sea which is really weird. Who puts on

  308. clothes to go swimming?

  309. Peter. You know why? Because in the past

  310. he had one experience where he walked on

  311. water and he thought, "Well, this is how

  312. God must do it all the time."

  313. >> Don't ever think just because that's how

  314. God did it in that season, that's how

  315. he's going to do it in the next. And so

  316. Peter learned a lesson because he put on

  317. his clothes and he fell straight in. No

  318. walking this time. But the other thing

  319. that's fascinating is John

  320. who writes this book. John, it's named

  321. after him. He describes himself as

  322. therefore the disciple whom Jesus loved

  323. said to Peter. That's a lot of words to

  324. basically said I said to Peter. So John

  325. John had a favorite complex. He just

  326. knew he was the favorite. Anyone here

  327. grew up in your house and you knew you

  328. were the favorite? Let's don't don't

  329. pretend you weren't. You just knew you

  330. were. Not everyone, but yes, some of

  331. you. Yeah, good on you. Don't be ashamed

  332. of it. In every family, there's a

  333. favorite. In every church, there's a

  334. favorite. There's the favorite and then

  335. Peter's the famous. John and Peter. When

  336. you go to Bible quizzes, nobody asks you

  337. about Thaddius and Bartholomew. They

  338. only ask you about John or Peter. John's

  339. the favorite. Peter's the famous. Peter

  340. was given the mic for the early church.

  341. Peter is the guy cutting off years.

  342. Peter's the guy denying Christ, calling

  343. him Lord. He's just he's just always,

  344. he's the guy walking on water. Peter is

  345. just activity central. You got the

  346. famous and the featured. But you know

  347. what? The church isn't built on the

  348. famous or the featured. Verse eight, I

  349. love this. But the other disciples.

  350. >> Oh, thank God for the other disciples.

  351. The nameless faceless don't make it that

  352. far. But the other disciples actually

  353. came in the boat and they dragged the

  354. net with fish. You know, there'd be no

  355. Elevation Church if not for the other

  356. disciples. So, I'm happy for the famous

  357. and I'm glad for the favorite, BUT THANK

  358. GOD for the other disciples. If you're

  359. another disciples, make some noise.

  360. >> Yeah. And in fact, if you're sitting

  361. next to another Listen, we can't all be

  362. the favorite and can't all be the

  363. famous. In fact, I would rather hide in

  364. the background and just pick up the net

  365. and just bring the catch to shore

  366. because that is ultimately what will

  367. build the church.

  368. >> They turn up. There's They turn up

  369. there. There's fish there. Jesus says,

  370. "Bring some of the fish which you've

  371. caught." Verse 11, here's where I want

  372. to land. Simon Peter went up, dragged

  373. the net to land full of large fish.

  374. 153.

  375. And although there were so many, the net

  376. was not broken. Another version says

  377. that the nets were strained to breaking

  378. point, but they didn't break. Here's the

  379. point.

  380. The miracle of God doing 0 to 153 is

  381. incredible. It's spectacular. No fish,

  382. suddenly having fish. That is our God.

  383. Never forget he's a miracle working God.

  384. He's able to do incredible things from

  385. nothing. He can make nothing become

  386. something. That is who God is. That's my

  387. definite. I believe in process. I

  388. believe in journey. I believe in all of

  389. that. But God transcends all of that. He

  390. uses journey. He uses process. But never

  391. rule out the fact that God is able to do

  392. exceedingly abundantly above. That's the

  393. God you're worshiping. That's the God

  394. you're serving. Don't limit him to just

  395. a natural God who only does things the

  396. normal way. He uses normal process. But

  397. I want to tell you, he can do

  398. supernatural things. And often he's

  399. looking for obedience. He just said,

  400. "Cast the net on the other side." So

  401. many of the miracles of Jesus were

  402. triggered by simple obedience.

  403. >> Often when you're in a in a rut, we

  404. often ask God for strategy. God is just

  405. asking us for obedience. like, "Lord,

  406. what's the strategy? I'm catching no

  407. fish." And he didn't say, "Change the

  408. crew, find a new lake, get a new boat."

  409. He just said, "Cast the net on the right

  410. side." Sometimes it's the smallest

  411. change

  412. >> that makes the biggest difference.

  413. >> It just doesn't make sense. It's an

  414. insult to fishermen who've been fishing

  415. all night. But God will ask you to do

  416. the most simple things. Forgive your

  417. mother-in-law

  418. >> because she's the one that often needs

  419. the most forgiveness.

  420. All right, Lord. I forgive her.

  421. And and by the way, I love my

  422. mother-in-law in case she ever hears

  423. this podcast. Um,

  424. and I love your mother-in-law. She's

  425. probably awesome, too. I'm just saying.

  426. I'm trying to dig myself out here. Um,

  427. and but you you you forgive that person

  428. that you've got a grudge against and and

  429. then you find God heals your back and

  430. you're like, what does healing of my

  431. back got to do with that? I don't know.

  432. But when you obey God, miracles happen.

  433. >> There are some of the smallest thing. Go

  434. wash in the pool of Sil. Why? I don't

  435. know. just do it. Amazing things happen

  436. when you just do what the Lord told you

  437. to do. And and and here we have this

  438. incredibly significant miracle, which is

  439. incredible. But that's actually not the

  440. miracle I want to focus on. There's

  441. another miracle which some of you may

  442. not even call a miracle, but it's the

  443. miracle that is a lot less spectacular,

  444. but is just as significant. It's the

  445. fact that the net was at breaking point

  446. and it didn't break. You're like,

  447. "What's the miracle?" God held the net

  448. together. You're like, "That doesn't

  449. sound that miraculous." Well, you'd be

  450. amazed how many times your life has been

  451. at breaking point. And the only reason

  452. you're here still today in July 2026 is

  453. because God held your sanity together.

  454. God held your marriage together. God

  455. held your life together. God held you

  456. through the divorce. He held you through

  457. the breakup. He held you through the

  458. bankruptcy. He held you together. You're

  459. here today because God held the net.

  460. >> And you're like, "That's not that

  461. doesn't seem as amazing as the other

  462. one." Yes. But I would say it's more

  463. significant.

  464. Because think about it. If not for the

  465. second miracle of God holding the net

  466. together, the first miracle is wasted.

  467. What's the point of 153 fish if the net

  468. breaks? And if the net breaks, the first

  469. miracle is lost.

  470. >> There are some miracles in your life

  471. that only have credibility because God

  472. held your life together. We should all

  473. be so grateful that God has held our

  474. life together. In our worst moments, in

  475. our toughest moments, in our darkest

  476. moments, he held you together. Is there

  477. anybody whose God has ever held together

  478. in the storms of life? Anyone been

  479. through a storm? But you're here today.

  480. Whether you're in Canes or in Sydney or

  481. in Melbourne or Manra, it doesn't

  482. matter. You're here today because God

  483. held you together. That alone makes him

  484. worthy of worship. That alone makes him

  485. worthy of praise. He doesn't have to do

  486. the spectacular to be worthy. He just

  487. held your life together. And for that,

  488. I'm grateful.

  489. >> But it begs the question, why did the

  490. Bible mention

  491. 153 fish specifically? I've heard many

  492. good sermons on why, and they're all

  493. probably correct, but I'm a simple guy.

  494. I I I just like to think

  495. 153 was not some numer numerology sort

  496. of sermon. I just think that's all the

  497. net could handle. I my theory is the

  498. 154th fish would have snapped the net.

  499. So that's what God bought in. Now here's

  500. what I learned. God actually respects

  501. our capacity.

  502. Some of us, the problem is we're praying

  503. prayers for things that are going to

  504. kill us.

  505. >> So God says, "No, not because he hates

  506. you,

  507. >> but he knows what your net can handle."

  508. >> And he wants to hold your net together.

  509. And we pray for things like I I said,

  510. "Lord, I want to get married at 22. I

  511. got married at 32. Nothing wrong with me

  512. at 22. I was very good-looking back in

  513. the day, 28 kilos ago, not just 28 years

  514. ago. I was fine specimen. I was a

  515. groomsman nine times. All my mates got

  516. married nine times. I mean, the first

  517. time it was a privilege. The fourth time

  518. it was getting expensive. By the eighth

  519. time I didn't want to be there. They're

  520. like, "Don't feel sorry for yourself.

  521. You know, you know, start mentoring

  522. young guys." I did. They got married.

  523. And they're like, you know, are they

  524. having kids and can you be our

  525. godfather? I'm like, oh. I'm like,

  526. what's wrong with me, Lord? But God, you

  527. know, I what I was praying for, I wasn't

  528. ready to handle. Some of us pray

  529. prayers, but God knows your capacity. If

  530. God gave me my wife at 22, my net would

  531. have snapped.

  532. Some things you're believing for will

  533. snap your net.

  534. >> And so you have to learn to trust the

  535. Lord. All right, God. I still pray big

  536. prayers, but he know you know this is

  537. right through the scripture. There's a

  538. story of a woman who poured who God you

  539. supernaturally increased a jar of oil

  540. and he said, "Bring all the empty

  541. vessels." The prophet said, "Bring all

  542. the empty vessels." They laid out all

  543. the empty vessels and the oil kept

  544. flowing. Did not stop until

  545. the vessel stopped because God knows

  546. your capacity.

  547. When you run out of capacity, when you

  548. run out of room,

  549. >> bless you, God will stop pouring the

  550. oil. Heaven is no shortage of oil.

  551. >> Earth just ran out of capacity.

  552. That's why it's a great theme this year

  553. for all of elevation to say, Lord, make

  554. room. Make room in my heart. I take the

  555. no room sign off. But God knows 153

  556. fish. That's what you can handle. That's

  557. what he'll give. There are business guys

  558. I've heard pressed. God, make me rich,

  559. Lord, for your glory.

  560. Give me billions of dollars for your

  561. kingdom, Lord. That's clearly. And

  562. heaven must be laughing going, "We know

  563. him.

  564. cute prayer request.

  565. But if we actually answered the prayer,

  566. it'll snap his net.

  567. We'll never see him again. He'll be on

  568. the Mediterranean on his New York Yacht.

  569. He'll probably leave his wife.

  570. God knows what we can handle. Even in

  571. temptation, he says he'll never allow

  572. you to go through than more you can

  573. handle. He knows our capacity.

  574. >> So if you're frustrated at how much is

  575. in your life, ask God for greater

  576. capacity. Don't just ask him for more.

  577. Lord, give me more. He goes, I can't

  578. pour more in. You've got Netflix,

  579. Amazon, shopping,

  580. your girls night out, blah, blah. I got

  581. no more space to pour anything into your

  582. life. So, make room is a good prayer.

  583. >> But, but what if but Lord, what do you

  584. want to do in our church? Like,

  585. individually, yeah, but what about

  586. together? Well, we're all part of the

  587. capacity of the church. And if you like,

  588. think of yourselves today across the

  589. whole nation as a giant net. You know,

  590. each of us is a thread in this

  591. incredible net. And I want to I want to

  592. encourage you that God will not pour new

  593. wine or more wine into old wine skin

  594. because the wine will be wasted and the

  595. vessel will be spoiled. God does not

  596. want to spoil you. God does not want to

  597. hurt me. God does not want to snap your

  598. net. So it doesn't mean you don't pray

  599. prayers, you change the prayer not from

  600. God give me more, give me more to Lord

  601. enlarge me, help me to make room in my

  602. life so that you can pour more fish into

  603. my heart. Do you know when we started

  604. our church in Malaysia, I've got this

  605. terrible picture. In fact, they might

  606. have it up here. This this is a this is

  607. I here's what happened on the Gold

  608. Coast. I had an encounter with the Lord

  609. and it was so real that I went home,

  610. told my folks I was 30 years of age. I

  611. had worked as a lawyer for five years. I

  612. gave that up, went into ministry, got

  613. disillusioned, didn't I like God, I

  614. didn't like the church. It's like I like

  615. the restaurant, but I couldn't handle

  616. the kitchen. And I'm like, this is not

  617. for me. And then I have this encounter

  618. with the Lord. It was so radical and

  619. such a turnaround. I went home, sold my

  620. house in Perth, bought a one-way ticket

  621. to an Islamic country without a visa to

  622. plant a church.

  623. >> Crazy. I was single, I was slim, I had

  624. black hair and I was ready to go. And so

  625. I go and I don't know anybody. I mean,

  626. our family grew up in Malaysia. Our

  627. father, my dad, who's now in heaven, he

  628. m he helped us migrate to Perth. We

  629. moved to Perth in 1984.

  630. And I he, you know, went through uni. So

  631. he worked hard to move us out of

  632. Malaysia and to educate me to become a

  633. lawyer. I quit law and then I quit

  634. Australia. So I literally reversed

  635. everything he worked so hard to set us

  636. up for.

  637. He was a godly man. He encouraged me. He

  638. said, "No problem." He was very

  639. supportive.

  640. But I'm in Malaysia going, "How on earth

  641. did you start a church? I don't know

  642. what to do." So I met one guy. His name

  643. was Jai. And I said, "Jai, do you have

  644. any friends? Because let's start a

  645. church." He's like, "I'm in." He was

  646. just an adventure. clearly was bored. He

  647. had nothing going on either. So, he was

  648. willing to say yes, but I don't know

  649. anyone, but he knows people. He said,

  650. "I've got a friend who's got an

  651. apartment." I said, "Let's meet there."

  652. And I said, "Invite your friends. Tell

  653. them all. I'll buy them noodles. Turn up

  654. at 5:00 p.m. and I'll tell them what

  655. we're doing." So, about 11 people turned

  656. up and these are the only two photos

  657. from that first day. It looks like 1975,

  658. but it's 2006.

  659. That's me on the left. It's the first

  660. service. I'm already tired. I'm sitting

  661. down. this the five guys on the right

  662. who look like they're under arrest are

  663. just random strangers who turned up for

  664. noodles. They're like, "What are we

  665. doing here?" And I'm like, "Listen,

  666. guys." And I'm sitting down in the

  667. lounge chair saying, "We're going to

  668. start a church." I mean, the world map

  669. looks impressive and the documentary

  670. looks amazing, but that there was no

  671. world map and no documentary. I was I

  672. didn't even have a visa. I don't know if

  673. they're going to kick me out of country

  674. in three months. And they're like,

  675. "Church? Where's the noodles?" Someone

  676. said, "If we come here, there's

  677. noodles." And I said, "No, we're going

  678. to have a hundred people in this church

  679. one day." That's all the faith I had

  680. for. And they're like, "Hundred people?

  681. I don't know who these people are. Where

  682. are the noodles?" Like, it was genuinely

  683. so awkward. But I had I was full of

  684. faith. I'm like, "Let's do this." I

  685. mean, thank God a hundred people didn't

  686. show up the next week. Firstly, the

  687. apartment wouldn't be able to handle it.

  688. Secondly, I wouldn't have known what to

  689. do. I'd be like, "Please go home. I

  690. don't have enough noodles for any of you

  691. and I don't have enough patience or

  692. capacity to help you. Thank God he knew

  693. the capacity. So maybe two turned up.

  694. But he knows the capacity of every

  695. believer of every church of every

  696. family. I mean now around the world

  697. there's amazing numbers and lots of

  698. zeros and 7 800 new people turn up every

  699. week around the world. But thank God

  700. 7800 people didn't turn up when I

  701. started

  702. >> because he knows my capacity.

  703. >> He knows your capacity. So the only way

  704. that God's going to grow what God is

  705. doing in this amazing church is if

  706. everyone says, "Lord, enlarge my

  707. capacity. Make room. Lord, let this net

  708. grow." So 153 is not the lid. Is not the

  709. limit. God looks at it and says, "Oh,

  710. you business guy, you want millions of B

  711. dollars, huh?" Okay, let's see what I

  712. can trust you with. Try 153 bucks. See

  713. how you go with that. He knows what's

  714. going to keep our net together. Although

  715. the net was strained, it didn't break.

  716. And I wrote an equation which I saw the

  717. guys put up here. Capacity because we're

  718. talking about room is a function of two

  719. very simple things in the kingdom of

  720. God. In the kingdom of God, it's the

  721. connections you have and your

  722. willingness to contribute or to carry.

  723. If you would like any maths equation, if

  724. you increase either your connect or your

  725. carry, your capacity grows. So, let me

  726. explain it to you using the analogy of a

  727. net since that's what we're talking

  728. about. Imagine, use your imagination for

  729. a second that we're all individual

  730. threads in a net. What is connection?

  731. It's not just, hey, can you say hi to

  732. your neighbor?

  733. Do you realize that God designed

  734. partnership? He designed connection. He

  735. designed relationship to actually be a

  736. catalyst to enlarge your capacity. Most

  737. people think, you know, when the pastor

  738. pastor gets up and says, "Join a life

  739. group. Join a life group. Join a life

  740. group. Join a life group. Join a life."

  741. You're like, "I'm sick of this." You

  742. don't You don't need more friends maybe,

  743. but you might need more godly friends.

  744. See, as Aussies, we sometimes just love

  745. mates who will drink with us in the

  746. ditch. But you don't need someone to

  747. drink with you in the ditch. You need

  748. someone to lift you out of the ditch.

  749. >> And you can't do that if you're

  750. isolated. If you come to church and you

  751. don't know anyone, but you just go, "Oh,

  752. I just come because I like the song or

  753. maybe I like the sermon and then I

  754. leave." You're robbing the capacity of

  755. this net because you imagine if we're

  756. all just individual threads but we're

  757. not connected. What makes a net a net is

  758. all the threads are

  759. >> connected. If there's no connection,

  760. there is no net.

  761. >> It's a hole.

  762. >> And yet all of us are individual lines.

  763. And it's our willingness to connect that

  764. gives this house capacity.

  765. >> Imagine if 11 fishermen were just using

  766. fishing lines. Imagine if they were just

  767. all went fishing because that's what

  768. they did. But instead of a net, they all

  769. 11 guys because one of them was no

  770. longer there. They're all fishing

  771. and they catch nothing. And Jesus turns

  772. up to the shore and says

  773. instantly they have how many fish? 11.

  774. Because a single fishing line can only

  775. catch one fish.

  776. And yet all Jesus would be able to do in

  777. that case is 0 to 11, not 0 to 153.

  778. Because when we're separated, our

  779. capacity is limited. But you imagine if

  780. we bring all our 11 fishing lines and

  781. they brought it to the feet of Jesus and

  782. said, "Can you stitch this whole line

  783. and make it a net?" Something happens

  784. when you connect individual threads.

  785. That's why wherever you came from and

  786. you landed in this church, bring your

  787. fishing line to the house and say, "God,

  788. use it to be a part of something bigger

  789. than just myself." And when we all get

  790. genuinely divinely connected, capacity

  791. increases. In Belgium, there's a horse

  792. called a draft horse that can pull a

  793. certain number of kilos. I can't

  794. remember. But two horses when yolked

  795. together don't pull twice the weight.

  796. They pull three times the weight. Why?

  797. Because there's a synergy in connection.

  798. Even if you're in business, the people

  799. you connect to, the voices you allow to

  800. speak into your life ultimately

  801. determine your capacity. If you're

  802. always connected to the wrong people, it

  803. will affect your capacity. Your

  804. connections genuinely make a difference.

  805. There is an old African proverb, if you

  806. want to go fast,

  807. >> go alone. If you want to go far, go

  808. together.

  809. And you know, there's a verse in Romans

  810. 16 which I love. And I first time I read

  811. it, I probably read it wrong. He It

  812. says, "Let those of us that are strong

  813. lift up them that are weak." And I

  814. thought, Jesus, please let me be the

  815. strong guy. I don't want to be the weak

  816. guy. And I read it as if let those of us

  817. who are strong lift up them that are

  818. weak meant there were two categories of

  819. Christians. Strong Christians and weak

  820. Christians. But do you realize that

  821. strong and weak are not labels on your

  822. life. They are seasons in your life.

  823. >> So there are seasons you're strong and

  824. there are seasons you're weak. It's not

  825. who you are. It's just what you're going

  826. through. And it really should be read

  827. this way. Let those of us who are in a

  828. season of strength lift up those of us

  829. who are in a season of weakness. Which

  830. means there's some seasons I lift you

  831. up, but there are other seasons you lift

  832. me up.

  833. >> Because you're not strong or weak as a

  834. person. You're strong or weak in a

  835. season.

  836. >> And you can only get that support if

  837. we're connected.

  838. >> Right now, you're probably sitting next

  839. to two neighbors. Find the one you like

  840. more and just say, "I'm connected to

  841. you." I know you've just rejected

  842. someone, but look at the other person

  843. because we're a church and say to them,

  844. "I'm connected to you, too." There's

  845. something about connection that I think

  846. you read all the Bible stories and it

  847. looks different.

  848. That was really awkward. You had to pick

  849. between your husband and your father. I

  850. just realized. Okay. Anyway,

  851. you know the three guys in the fire,

  852. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. You I'm

  853. using Bible stories. I don't have time

  854. to explain them all, but I reckon they

  855. were three ordinary Aussie guys. They

  856. weren't Aussie at all, but they were

  857. three guys, no superstars. They

  858. probably, you know, there's a whole king

  859. with a fire threatening to burn anybody

  860. who doesn't bow to the statue. And these

  861. three Aussie kids probably thought, "No,

  862. we're not doing it because we're

  863. independent. We don't like listening to

  864. all these people." Hands in, right? No

  865. bow. In three, three, two, one, no bow.

  866. Let's go. They walk out. They see

  867. everyone bowing. They see the fire.

  868. They're like, "Oh, man." AND THE KING

  869. SAYS, "BOW OR WE BURN YOU." There's the

  870. paraphrase version. I reckon one of them

  871. was probably the the ring leader, the

  872. guy who liked to be known as the leader.

  873. So, HE'S LIKE, "WE'RE NOT GOING TO BOW,

  874. GUYS." And maybe the other guy who had

  875. peer pressure issues and just always

  876. wanted to be like, "Yeah, yeah, I'm with

  877. him." And the third guy who's like, "Oh,

  878. man. Here we go again." I don't know. I

  879. just like to think they're ordinary

  880. guys. They weren't giants of faith. But

  881. together, connected,

  882. >> connected, they turned a nation upside

  883. down.

  884. >> Three connected, brought a fourth man

  885. into the fire.

  886. >> I mean, imagine if three people got out

  887. of the boat with Peter. You know the

  888. story about Peter walking on water?

  889. Well, he walked out by himself. That's

  890. why when the wind and waves came, it's

  891. like, oh my gosh, begins to sink. But

  892. imagine if two others, maybe not Thomas

  893. or Judas, but maybe two others just

  894. decided, "Come on, Pete, I'll come with

  895. you." Maybe then when Peter goes, "Oh

  896. no, the wind and the waves." Someone

  897. would have gone, "Focus. It's Jesus."

  898. There's there's a wonderful autocorrect

  899. in the herd.

  900. You don't lose your individuality,

  901. but your connections do matter.

  902. >> You're like, "God, make room." Well,

  903. make room in your heart to become

  904. vulnerable with someone. Share your

  905. heart. Open your house. Become part of a

  906. life group. do something because God

  907. actually grows your capacity when you

  908. increase your connections. But the

  909. second the second part of it, thank you

  910. the four of you who are clapping. The

  911. rest of you keep processing.

  912. Here's the second half of the equation.

  913. Your capacity grows not just by your

  914. connection, but by your willingness to

  915. contribute. Think of the net analogy

  916. again. Think of the fact that we're all

  917. individual threads in a big net. You

  918. know, a net is strong when it's

  919. connected. But you imagine if you're a

  920. thread in the net and you love the

  921. connections, but you just don't want to

  922. carry any weight. Everyone has one

  923. friend who's like that. You know that

  924. that's the friend when you all go out

  925. for dinner, they always forget their

  926. wallet.

  927. That's the friend who never offers to

  928. buy the drinks. That's the friend when

  929. everyone brings a dish, they bring a

  930. pack of cheeels.

  931. the one that loves the hangs but doesn't

  932. like to contribute.

  933. >> Those friends don't really end up

  934. lasting a long time. But here's the

  935. thing about church. Every one of you in

  936. this room, you have a gift. You have an

  937. ability. You might say, "No, I don't."

  938. Yes, you do. God made you with talent,

  939. with ability. You might not be able to

  940. sing like Lachlan, but don't worry. No,

  941. most people can't. You can all We can

  942. all do something. We can all chip in. We

  943. can all help. We can all make a small

  944. difference. Why? Because we are the body

  945. of Christ. If in your physical body any

  946. part of it stopped working, you would go

  947. see a doctor. But in church, we think

  948. it's normal that only a few of us should

  949. do all the heavy lifting.

  950. >> In the natural body, there's both muscle

  951. and fat. The muscles doing the hard work

  952. and the fats enjoying the journey.

  953. I'm not fat shaming anyone. I have no

  954. leg to stand on. I'm just saying in the

  955. body of Christ, are you muscle or are

  956. you fat? Are you just enjoying the ride

  957. while someone else comes and sets up?

  958. Someone else does the work, someone else

  959. does the hospitality, someone else does

  960. the No, no, no. Listen, there's seasons

  961. we all have to be carried. But you're

  962. like, "But I'm pastor. I'm pretty new

  963. here." Ah, you know, when Jesus healed a

  964. paralyzed guy, he was very new. He was

  965. carried by four friends who literally

  966. cut a hole in the roof. They let him

  967. down. Jesus heals him, forgives him, and

  968. then says, "Become an usher." Like,

  969. "What did he say that?" Yeah. He said,

  970. "Pick up your mat."

  971. Like, you know, think about it. This

  972. guy's new to church. His friends brought

  973. him. You might be new to church today

  974. going, "Who is this lunatic?" Listen,

  975. I'm just passionate about the fact that

  976. everyone has a gift and everyone can

  977. contribute. And if we all carry,

  978. we make room together.

  979. No point praying for revival. God, save

  980. my whole street, but don't let them

  981. knock on my door after seven.

  982. >> Lord, double our church, but Lord, make

  983. sure my seat's still there when I come

  984. next week. You can't you can't ask God

  985. for things and not make room.

  986. >> That's why this room, this this vision

  987. is exciting because who knows what the

  988. Lord's going to do in 2027 in all the

  989. cities. Why? Because we're together

  990. individually making room, but

  991. collectively saying, "God, I want to be

  992. connected. I want to be strong. I want

  993. to be part of what you're doing and I

  994. want to actually make a difference. This

  995. paralyzed guy literally gets healed.

  996. It's his first service. Some of you it's

  997. your first service. And Jesus says,

  998. "Pick up your mat." Obviously, that was

  999. part of the evidence of him getting

1000. healed. Like, prove you're strong that

1001. you can pick it up. But it was also

1002. prophetic in that it was a shift. Your

1003. whole life you've been carried now. I

1004. healed you. I forgave you. Become a

  1005. carrier.

  1006. >> And that that's disciplehip. That's

  1007. awesome.

  1008. >> And and you know, it's it's it's like he

  1009. could have said, "Well, Lord, I I I'm

1010. just new. I just like to check out this

1011. church for six months." Jesus didn't

1012. say, "Click on the red tab on the hello

1013. and just scan and we will talk to you in

1014. nine months when you've had time to

1015. process emotionally where you're at on

1016. this journey." No. Day one, minute one,

1017. become an asher. Pick up your mat.

  1018. You're like, "Pastor Mark, that's very

1019. harsh. You can't talk to the new people

1020. like that." No, I'm not talking because

1021. this is part of the wonder that God made

1022. you. He made you with an ability to

  1023. contribute.

1024. >> You know, you're like, "Yeah, but the

1025. church is a hospital. Stop making people

1026. do stuff." Well, who someone has to do

1027. it? And people think, "Well, that's the

1028. pastor's job." You know, when the

1029. worship leader gets up and says, "Lift

1030. your hands." You're like, "No, you lift

1031. your hands. That's why they pay you."

1032. You know, Aussies have such a bent to

  1033. independence

1034. that we just don't like being told

1035. anything. And yet we have a Lord. We

  1036. have a God. That's a problem.

  1037. He's actually in charge.

1038. >> Yeah. But Oh, yeah.

1039. But the capacity of what God can do in

1040. this church is when we all bend our

  1041. knee,

1042. lay low, and say, "Father, we'll be part

1043. of a net. I don't want to be an

1044. individual fishing line on my own just

1045. coming and going when I want. Lord,

1046. connect me to what you are doing." And

1047. Lord, I know I'm connected to some frail

1048. people and I know that no church is

1049. perfect, but God, I want to be a part of

1050. what you are doing. Do you know

  1051. I I I remember friend and I we went to

1052. Malaysia and he lost his wallet on the

1053. plane and um we went to the airport to

1054. the lost and found counter because we

1055. had to report it missing. We couldn't go

1056. back on the plane. So, he's a bit shy.

1057. So, I did the talking for him and I said

1058. um my mate said, "Excuse me." And the

1059. lady took a couple of minutes to come

1060. out, which is fine. But then she says,

1061. "Can I help you?" And as soon as I told

1062. her that my friend lost his wallet, she

1063. looked disgusted. She was like

1064. shook her head and with this patronizing

1065. look and then just stared. I said, "Um,

  1066. can we report it?"

  1067. She stared.

  1068. I'm going, "What's her problem?" She

1069. works at the lost and found counter.

1070. This is her job. Why is she disgusted?

1071. Why is she giving us moral eyes? Like as

  1072. if he's irresponsible. Of course, he's

1073. irresponsible, but this is your job. You

1074. work here. What is your problem? Please

  1075. help us.

  1076. She turns around slowly.

1077. About five minutes later, gives out a

1078. form, fill it in. I'm like, man, she's

1079. had a bad day. But then I realized, even

1080. though this is a job, she probably likes

1081. the other half of the job. She probably

1082. likes the found part. She probably likes

1083. the part of you bringing the wallet.

1084. She's like, a thank you. And some people

1085. in the church are like that. We like the

1086. found part. We don't like the lost part.

1087. But we're into the business of lost and

1088. found. The lost shall be found. Which

1089. means we have to have a heart. We have

1090. to make room. We have to be willing.

1091. This is not a recruitment drive. Don't

  1092. worry, I'm leaving. But we're not

1093. recruiting you. We're actually saying

1094. this is what you were born for. We're

1095. all part of it. It should affect your

1096. mentality. Do you know even when I pray

1097. for someone, if someone if you come to

1098. me and go, I've got a sore shoulder.

1099. Please pray for me. You know my prayer.

1100. I'm not saying, "Oh, God, please take

1101. the pain away. It must be terrible." I'm

  1102. praying that it's a fine prayer. But I'm

1103. saying, "Lord, heal this shoulder so

1104. radically that it'll be stronger than

1105. it's ever been and we can lift again."

1106. That's the mentality when you pray. If a

1107. couple come to me and they're going

1108. through a trauma, I'm not saying, "Oh,

1109. God, keep them away from the divorce

1110. courts." I'm saying, "No, Lord, heal

1111. this marriage so radically that they

1112. will start a marriage ministry and

1113. they'll be able to help other couples

1114. who go through betrayal and pain."

1115. That's what God wants to do.

1116. >> You know, Lord, Lord, Lord, this

1117. business guys is is really struggling.

1118. I'm not saying, God, keep him away from

  1119. bankruptcy. That's a good prayer. But

1120. I'm praying, God, turn it around so

1121. radically. See, this is why I believe

1122. when people say to me, "Pastor, the

1123. church is a hospital." I'm like, "Yeah,

  1124. it's a hospital, but it's not a normal

1125. hospital." It's the only hospital where

1126. you come in as a sick patient and you

  1127. leave as a physician.

1128. >> He goes, "Now go lay hands on the sick."

1129. Oh, but I was sick. Yeah. Now you go and

1130. forgive others just like I forgave you.

1131. You come in a spectator, but you leave a

1132. soldier. You come in lame, but you leave

1133. leaping. You come in crippled, but you

1134. leave a carrier. That's the body of

1135. Christ. And you're like, "Yeah, but I

1136. got problems." We all have problems. If

1137. you have no problems, your first problem

1138. is denial. We all have problems. The

1139. thing about the volunteers in Elevation

1140. Church, you don't have a clue. They have

  1141. major problems.

1142. All of them. all of us and sometimes I

  1143. don't want to join as I don't like

  1144. hypocrites. Don't call anyone a

1145. hypocrite because all of us have

  1146. inconsistencies.

1147. >> The minute you label someone a

1148. hypocrite, be very careful because you

  1149. too have inconsistencies.

1150. Have you ever met a teacher who's

  1151. unteachable,

  1152. inconsistent,

1153. educating everyone but won't learn

1154. anything? Have you ever met a nurse who

  1155. smokes,

1156. helping the sick and killing herself?

1157. Have you ever met an overweight personal

  1158. trainer?

1159. >> Have you ever met a pastor who doesn't

1160. like people? Have you met a counselor

  1161. who's got issues?

  1162. Inconsist. Everybody has

1163. inconsistencies. So don't stay away

1164. because of in We're all on the journey.

  1165. That's why we NEED A SAVIOR. THAT'S why

1166. we NEED GOD. THAT'S why we need one

1167. another. This church is made up of

1168. imperfect people all saying yes to being

1169. part of a net. God, I'll be part of what

1170. you are doing. And let me close with

  1171. this.

1172. What if the 154th fish

  1173. was your loved one?

1174. But there's no capacity because we won't

  1175. make room.

1176. We make room as an internal posture. And

1177. in a few moments, you're going to get

1178. that opportunity in every location,

1179. every city to make room in your heart

1180. for Jesus. Just like the inkeeper did

  1181. 2,000 years ago.

1182. Some inkeeper made room and Jesus was

  1183. birthed on the planet.

1184. Make room in your heart for God. And

1185. you'll be amazed at what he does in your

1186. life. But when you do that, you're a

  1187. part of a community. You're a part of a

  1188. net. You're a part of a movement that

1189. God wants to connect. God wants to

1190. unite. See, that's why the enemy will

  1191. try and isolate you

1192. and he'll try and offend you

1193. because we were always meant to be

1194. together and we're always meant to

  1195. actually contribute.

1196. It's the natural function. You know, you

1197. might say, "But excuse me, pastor, I'm

  1198. 70. I'm 80. You don't have to carry

1199. chairs. You can carry prayer."

1200. >> You might be young and say, "I don't

1201. have any money." Well, you don't have to

1202. give into the offering if you got no

1203. money, but you can serve and you can

1204. help. You might be a business guy. I

1205. can't be an usher. I'm traveling all the

1206. time. Well, you can fund the kingdom.

1207. Everyone has something. I'm a single mom

1208. with kids. I can't leave my house. Well,

1209. maybe I can host a life group. I mean,

1210. we all can do something. We can all in

1211. some way in encouragement, in prayer, in

1212. some way. You were born to function. If

1213. you read the obituaries this morning and

1214. your name wasn't on there, you still

  1215. have a plan.

  1216. >> There's still a purpose for your life.

1217. And so I'm going to invite everybody in

1218. every church to stand right now across

1219. elevation because I want to close in

1220. prayer before I hand back to your

1221. pastor. And I specifically want to pray

1222. for people who you relate to the full

1223. net because maybe it's something going

  1224. on. You're struggling. Maybe you can't

1225. catch any fish right now. Maybe there's

1226. too many fish right now. but all across

  1227. Australia, wherever you're at. If you're

1228. saying, "God, I need your grace cuz my

1229. nets are strained and I feel like I'm at

1230. the edge of myself." I want to tell you

1231. the Lord is holding you together. And I

1232. want to confirm that he and his grace is

1233. all you need. He's holding your life.

1234. He's holding you together. But I want to

1235. pray for those who need that right now.

1236. So in every city, in every location,

1237. including here, if you need that, just

1238. lift your hand towards heaven right now

1239. because God is in the room. He's

1240. present. [music] And father, I'm praying

1241. right now for everyone in Canes and

1242. Melbourne, in Manra and Sydney, and

1243. Penri in the G Coast. Lord, everyone

1244. across Australia that Lord has a need.

1245. They feel like their net is snapping.

1246. God, let your grace hold them because

1247. your grace is sufficient for us. And

1248. father, I pray that they will look back

1249. and see their capacity enlarged. That

1250. the season did not sink them. The storm

1251. did not drown them. The weight did not

1252. break them. But Lord, you only [music]

1253. simply enlarge them for what is to come.

1254. You know, just one last thing. I don't

1255. know if you know the person next to you

1256. or if you like them, but can you just

1257. put your hand on their shoulder or if

1258. they're not offended by that or maybe

1259. hold their hand or whatever

1260. because right across this room is a

1261. giant net. We're not individual fishing

1262. lions coming on a journey. We're all

1263. unique, but God is knitting unique lions

1264. together for a greater good. So, Father,

1265. I thank you for the net that is

1266. Elevation Church for 2026. You are

1267. making room for something that's still

1268. to come. Father, we thank you that there

1269. would be such a supernatural [music]

1270. sense of unity and a wonderful sense of

1271. activity. And Lord, there would be an

1272. awakening in every heart that Lord all

1273. our days we would not be isolated. We

1274. would not be offended. We would not be

1275. divided. Father, I thank you for this

1276. giant net across this church that Lord,

1277. you would entrust them with even more.

1278. Lord, even more favor, more salvations,

1279. more stories. Lord, for the new person

1280. who's here and never been to a church

1281. before. Thank you. You have a plan for

1282. them, too. Thank you, Lord, for the

1283. youngest to the oldest, from the richest

1284. to the poorest, [music] from the shiest

1285. to the boldest. Everybody's included in

1286. your plan. Father, I thank you, Lord,

1287. for this net. Have your way. Take 30

1288. seconds and can you bless them? Can you

1289. pray for them right now? Even if you're

1290. not a big prayer, just say a prayer for

1291. them. Say, Lord, strengthen the net.

1292. Strengthen my sister. [music] Strengthen

1293. my brother. Strengthen my friend.

  1294. Strengthen this person. I don't know

1295. their life, Lord, but Lord, strengthen

1296. them. Use them for your glory. And let

1297. God enlarge what he wants to do in Jesus

  1298. name.
