  1. fantastic if we ever got the opportunity

  2. to sing up here which which I won't so

  3. don't panic you'd have a whole new level

  4. of appreciation for what we have well

  5. this team they're fantastic I do a great

  6. job and dance yeah that'll be even worse

  7. so I won't do that either um I get to

  8. share this morning a bit uh around uh

  9. the the new upper room project the

  10. building project that we're doing so

  11. shortly we'll look at some 3D images

  12. that the Architects have done for us and

  13. just talk through some of that there but

  14. before we get on to that I you know just

  15. thinking about just how incredibly

  16. blessed we are to have this facility

  17. that we have you know and and some of us

  18. have been around long enough to remember

  19. where this all began and I'm talking

  20. just over 40 years ago in a little place

  21. in greton Cornwall Street um and it was

  22. actually uh they became my inws um I

  23. married their daughter Karen uh the

  24. pastors of that church da and bu and

  25. jackins and they came up from blenham

  26. and started that little church and it

  27. set less than 100 people and um they

  28. quickly outgrew that space and um as a

  29. result of that they did a church plant

  30. um out into Mar and um and over the

  31. years that um that church became uh

  32. teranga Christian Elum Christian Center

  33. and um and they moved around different

  34. parts of the city and we carried on with

  35. what we were doing and um eventually

  36. ended up in Christopher Street as as the

  37. church and gam began to grow um further

  38. and and we and they ran out of space so

  39. um you know we're we're pretty blessed

  40. to to be in here and we've seen God's

  41. faithfulness you know through all of

  42. those um changes through the years and

  43. um his Blessing on us as a church as

  44. things have grown but you know um but

  45. also we've seen the faithfulness of the

  46. people that have come before and and the

  47. pastors that have stepped into what the

  48. words that God has given them um and to

  49. fulfill the call on their lives and and

  50. you know we we're here as a result of

  51. that and just over um I think 10 years

  52. ago um Teran elim Christian Center and

  53. teranga um city elim um came together as

  54. one and um and you know pulled our

  55. resources and we were able to purchase

  56. this building and uh there's photos up

  57. there you can see on the screen so

  58. Christopher Street on on the left hand

  59. side was uh where we were before here

  60. and um down in Amber Cresent was where

  61. El Christian Center was so yeah so

  62. together we've managed to um you know to

  63. pull our resources and and come under

  64. here but I just again just want to honor

  65. um Pastor Trev deby for you know yeah

  66. you know he I I know he had a word from

  67. God Isaiah

    Isaiah 54:2

  68. 54:2 um that said you know enlarge the

  69. place of your tent lengthen your cords

  70. and strengthen your stakes and they were

  71. faithful to that call and you know as a

  72. result of that we've got to we get to

  73. enjoy what we have today so and so you

  74. know when we started this project this

  75. was just an empty warehouse and we would

  76. love to have at the time um continued on

  77. and and done the off is upstairs as well

  78. but we had some priorities and obviously

  79. uh one of them was making sure that we

  80. could get the church functional and

  81. Auditorium done and the kids program uh

  82. rooms finished and that that type of

  83. thing and the other priority was not to

  84. Lumber us with a um you know an

  85. unrealistic um level of debt and so we

  86. decided we could leave the officers for

  87. that reason until a later date and as

  88. Pastor Aon said last week that that time

  89. has has come so we're pretty excited

  90. about um this next stage and and what's

  91. going to happen and we know that that

  92. God's honored and you know as Pastor

  93. Aaron shared last week that you know

  94. there areas uh we just want to create a

  95. space that's inviting for people to come

  96. to be able to share their hearts you

  97. know and and to see people um you know

  98. uh set free and and uh encouraged uh to

  99. be all that God's called them to be so

  100. you know that's that's your vision for

  101. for that area we talk about officers but

  102. you know that really it creates a space

  103. for those sort of things to happen and

  104. for the team to really connect as well

  105. so that's that's our plan so we we're

  106. looking forward to what God's going to

  107. do um and the I mean at the moment what

  108. they have essentially is just a rabbit

  109. warrant of um cor store panels um it's

  110. basically every room's a freezer with a

  111. window and the window leaks so it's it's

  112. not the most inviting inviting place to

  113. be and so this morning after the service

  114. and and this is pretty exciting if you

  115. want to go for a wander through the

  116. existing offices try to hold your

  117. excitement

  118. uh Nathan's going to meet you uh up on

  119. the on the uh mezzanine or just outside

  120. the mezanine doors um and you can wander

  121. through and have a look at what the

  122. staff have been sort of putting up with

  123. and you know it hasn't been great but

  124. you know they've shown a lot of Grace

  125. it's been quite a number of years that

  126. they've sort of uh you know had to work

  127. from there so um so here we are with uh

  128. some 3D images of what we're wanting to

  129. do and you can see um mainly the the uh

  130. the main area uh where the staff will

  131. meet um it's a big open plan space and

  132. we'll have um with high raking ceilings

  133. basically following the line of the roof

  134. that's see

  135. um with skylights in there so we can

  136. flood the whole area with with natural

  137. light um which would be fantastic um

  138. Pastor Aaron's office conveniently

  139. located beside the kitchen and the

  140. coffee machine on the end there so that

  141. that should work well ER should work

  142. well so um and yeah and the the youth

  143. area um meeting room um at the moment

  144. it's a it's a pretty mcky room to be

  145. honest we've we've covered the ceiling

  146. because it was all moldy up there and

  147. it's we've had some issues so um so

  148. that's going to be fantastic for them as

  149. well just to be able to have some

  150. somewhere they can they can meet and and

  151. you know discuss things and and we see

  152. what's happening with the youth they

  153. need they need the space you know it's

  154. fantastic what God's doing um in this

  155. place so so that's what we're um looking

  156. to achieve um we're still working

  157. through the numbers on on that at the

  158. moment we're waiting for the working

  159. drawings to come so we can just nail

  160. down the the actual cost but you know

  161. it's interesting because you know

  162. recently we've had this building boom

  163. and um building cost just went crazy 30

  164. to 40% um and and uh yeah it's amazing

  165. that that you know we've had this recent

  166. um bit of a downturn in the building

  167. industry but none of those process came

  168. back so it's uh you know it seems to

  169. have been The New Normal so we know this

  170. is going to require you know a

  171. reasonably substantial investment from

  172. us to achieve what we wanted to do here

  173. and and we um you know we're we're a

  174. decent sized church and we're really

  175. believing um that you know we'll all

  176. catch that Vision um of what we wanted

  177. to do and really um you know sew into it

  178. um sew into it generously and and and

  179. you know this might for some be

  180. challenging but we believe you know

  181. we're a large enough church that we

  182. could actually raise a couple hundred

  183. thousand towards this

  184. build you know let's believe for let's

  185. step out in faith and believe you know

  186. that that we can achieve that and um you

  187. know we don't want to again we don't

  188. want to be lumbering uh a church with

  189. with huge debt either so um and you know

  190. yeah substantial investment means

  191. different things for different people

  192. but we're we're you know looking to

  193. raise at least that amount so in a

  194. couple of weeks we're going to have the

  195. um the the offering towards this

  196. building project and um yeah we' just

  197. love it if you would you know partner uh

  198. with us and with God and just um you

  199. know sew into what he's doing on this

  200. place and so there's some ways to give

  201. um up on the screen there direct debit

  202. uh credit sorry um uh yeah include your

  203. um your giving number in that um and and

  204. upper as the as the uh you need to write

  205. that on there as well as your reference

  206. um and there's AP direct credit as well

  207. just the one off payment cash whatever

  208. do we have envelopes was

  209. envelopes oh there okay you're great so

  210. we'll you L some envelopes and we can

  211. can look at that so yeah look we're just

  212. believing that God's you know God's on

  213. this and uh we look at what we have and

  214. where we've come from and his

  215. faithfulness through all that time and

  216. we know that you know this is just the

  217. next stage in the life of this church

  218. and yes I I'll just pray and then I'll

  219. hand over to Pastor AR father God lord

  220. we just thank you firstly for your

  221. goodness Lord and Lord just your

  222. faithfulness Lord we look on our on our

  223. own lives as individuals and time and

  224. time again we see your hand your hand of

  225. provision your hand of of healing Lord

  226. just your hand of goodness Lord on our

  227. lives and Lord even as a church family

  228. again father we just see your

  229. faithfulness over the years as things

  230. have grown as um we've stepped into uh

  231. in faith into what you have for us Lord

  232. You've honored that and we've just

  233. continued to see that growth and Lord

  234. we're excited about what lies ahead

  235. father God you have so much more um for

  236. us for this place Lord God and and we're

  237. just so excited about what you're doing

  238. in this place we just honor you Lord we

  239. worship you and we honor you in Jesus

  240. name amen amen amen awesome Clinton

  241. thanks

  242. mate uh so good Clinton uh was down with

  243. his boat um yesterday throwing young

  244. people off a biscuit at camp and so that

  245. was good but his brother is actually the

  246. one who uh who is the one that's a

  247. little bit ruthless when they tow the

  248. biscuit and uh reys one of our our

  249. well-built young guys he plays Prop he

  250. looked at Clinton's brother and said

  251. you'll never get me off and uh Clinton's

  252. brother turned back to to him and said 7

  253. seconds and uh he turned out to be right

  254. as Rees uh went into the water I must

  255. admit there's these young guys and they

  256. are they play first 15 rugby and they

  257. man they are cut chiseled young men and

  258. so I was a little bit unsure about

  259. whether I should swim or not because I

  260. was feeling a little bit self-conscious

  261. but in the end I did swim I thought hey

  262. that doesn't matter and um I got back

  263. and eily put his arm around me and said

  264. you were really Brave today bro and I

  265. said why is that he said well I wasn't

  266. taking my top off and so um I

  267. uh so I made myself feel better by

  268. having a cheeseburger on the drive home

  269. you know like

  270. uh hey we will also have a a sketch uh

  271. next week for what our prayer room will

  272. look like as part of the renovation so

  273. we're also going to have our prayer room

  274. as a designated prayer space with uh

  275. 24/7 access and so we really looking

  276. forward to um being able to just have a

  277. a scheme of what that might look like

  278. that we'll be able to um show you next

  279. week but before we get into the message

  280. uh can we just uh we're going to show

  281. the video that we showed last week as a

  282. church we will be uh leaning into lent

  283. this year and uh that starts on the

  284. first Wednesday in March and so if

  285. you're not familiar with what lent is I

  286. think the video is going to come up

  287. perfect hey Russian spies and fish fries

  288. this coming week Christians all over the

  289. world will observe Ash Wednesday kicking

  290. off a season that we call

  291. lent no lent if you've spent any time

  292. around Church in your life you may have

  293. heard of this season yeah isn't that the

  294. time before Easter where we give

  295. something up well kind of but lent is

  296. actually much deeper than that lent is a

  297. season on the church calendar that

  298. stretches 40 days from Ash Wednesday to

  299. Easter Sunday traditionally lent is

  300. treated as a time to reflect repent and

  301. prepare our hearts for the celebration

  302. of Easter and Christ's Resurrection from

  303. the dead but where is Lent in the Bible

  304. Well the season and observation of Lent

  305. does not actually appear in scripture

  306. well that's it I'm

  307. done however just because the season of

  308. Lent does not appear in scripture

  309. doesn't mean that it's not founded on

  310. biblical principles for example in Greek

  311. the season of Lent was originally

  312. referred to as tesser acost which means

  313. the 40 and this period of 40 days is not

  314. just some arbitrary number but 40 is a

  315. number of deep significance in the Bible

  316. this is the same duration of time that

  317. Moses spent on Mount Si and Jesus spent

  318. in the wilderness and in both of these

  319. circumstances both Moses and Jesus were

  320. fasting during these periods and because

  321. of this fasting and prayer are two of

  322. the main focuses for many Believers

  323. during Lent this is why you often see

  324. churches doing prayer journals or

  325. challenges during Lent this is also

  326. where the idea of giving something up

  327. for Lent comes from because fasting

  328. doesn't always have to just do with food

  329. you can fast from a certain type of food

  330. you can fast from television or social

  331. media in this season of Lent I'm fasting

  332. from watching the NBA it's a difficult

  333. sacrifice but if you ever ask the

  334. question why do we fast why do we give

  335. something up during Lent well I'll tell

  336. you one thing it's not because God wants

  337. us to be sad and grumpy all the time and

  338. it's not so that we can brag about how

  339. we crushed lent this year I don't even

  340. know who would be impressed by that but

  341. the idea of fasting or giving something

  342. up for Lent is so that we have more room

  343. to pursue God in our lives in essence

  344. the fasting portion of Lent means

  345. removing something to make room for the

  346. one thing it means removing a

  347. distraction or creating more room in our

  348. lives so that we can truly pursue God

  349. and His goodness and just like Moses's

  350. tesser costy or 40 days prepared him to

  351. lead God's people across the desert and

  352. just like Jesus's tesser costy prepared

  353. him for his public Ministry our season

  354. of Lent is meant to prepare us to

  355. experience the full joy and celebration

  356. of Easter so you see lent is not not

  357. just about saying no to something it's

  358. actually about saying no to something

  359. for a while to prepare ourselves to

  360. experience the full measure of God's yes

  361. and so with the season of Lent starting

  362. in a few days I want to challenge you to

  363. enter into this season resolving to

  364. pursue god with greater intensity maybe

  365. you'll do it through fasting either

  366. fasting from food or something else in

  367. your life maybe you'll do it through

  368. consistent daily prayer study or

  369. reflection maybe you'll go above and

  370. beyond in your giving and generosity

  371. whatever it is for you I want to

  372. challenge each and every one of us over

  373. the next 40 days to pursue God like

  374. never before so that we can celebrate

  375. him like never

  376. before awesome so uh yeah we're going to

  377. lean into lent uh this year as a church

  378. but if you've got your Bible you can uh

  379. turn to John Chapter 2 uh as we uh

    John 2 chapter mention

  380. continue our summer Vision Series this

  381. morning and in John 2 uh: 13-1 17 it

  382. says when it was almost time for the

  383. Jewish Passover Jesus went up to

  384. Jerusalem in the temple courts he found

  385. people selling cattle sheep and doves

  386. and others sitting at tables exchanging

  387. money so he made a whip out of cords and

  388. drove all from the temple courts both

  389. sheep and cattle he scattered the coins

  390. and money changers uh money changers and

  391. overturned their tables right now you're

  392. thinking this is a strange scripture to

  393. use for vision Sunday right um where

  394. Jesus uh makes a whip he he then says

  395. get out of here stop turning my father's

  396. house into a market his disciples

  397. remembered that it is written Zeal for

  398. your house will consume me now it's

  399. interesting uh this cleansing of the

  400. temple at the start of jesus' ministry

  401. because Jesus actually starts his

  402. ministry by turning water into wine and

  403. then after turning water into wine at

  404. the wedding he then comes in and

  405. overturns tables in the temple and what

  406. I've sort of discovered is that often as

  407. humans we tend to either have a problem

  408. with one of those two stories like it

  409. tends to either be that we sort of have

  410. a problem with the story of Jesus

  411. turning water into wine uh and making

  412. more wine for drunk people and we're

  413. kind of like wow that's an unusual thing

  414. that he did I don't know about that or

  415. maybe we have like the problem of going

  416. man I don't really know about Jesus

  417. overturning tables and upsetting the

  418. marketplace and even Jesus uh said in

  419. John 4 what he would say of that that

  420. generation was uh we played the pipe for

  421. you and you did not dance we sang A

  422. durge and you did not mourn and what he

  423. says is John came eating and drinking

  424. and they accused him of having a demon

  425. and Jesus came eating and uh sorry uh

  426. sorry Jesus came eating and drinking and

  427. they said he was a glutton so John

  428. fasted and they accused him of having a

  429. demon Jesus celebrated and they accused

  430. him of having a demon and so what he was

  431. saying was like there are some people

  432. that are like all for the celebration

  433. and then some people that are all for

  434. the mour and here in Jesus at the start

  435. of his ministry we have this idea that

  436. he both turns water into wine in at a

  437. wedding and he also overturns tables in

  438. the temple what's interesting is that

  439. Jesus actually overturned the tables not

  440. once but twice in his ministry right at

  441. the start and right at the end so Jesus

  442. chose to bookend his ministry by

  443. overturning table

  444. in a temple both uh start of his

  445. ministry and the start of passion

  446. week so it's interesting how do we

  447. interpret this

  448. story you're always suspicious of a

  449. Christian if this is their favorite

  450. picture of Jesus right what's your

  451. favorite idea of Jesus I like the one

  452. where he whipped got made a whip like

  453. you kind of a little bit funnily enough

  454. that doesn't make it to too many worship

  455. songs does it we don't kind of um we

  456. don't sort of sing about the Jesus that

  457. overturns the uh tables within the

  458. temple and sometimes it there are

  459. pictures of Jesus that are challenging

  460. for us

  461. right like if you read the gospels

  462. really honestly you will find somewhere

  463. a picture of Jesus that is challenging

  464. for you and and if we don't ever find a

  465. picture of Jesus that's challenging for

  466. us then we are in danger that we have

  467. actually created a God in our image

  468. rather than um understanding who the

  469. true God

  470. is and I do understand this morning that

  471. there will be people here that have

  472. experience toxic anger in their lives

  473. and so maybe when you read about Jesus

  474. overturning tables it's like that

  475. doesn't make much sense for us if we've

  476. experienced that through an imperfect

  477. human who has done those things in our

  478. lives and has made it feel like a very

  479. unsafe

  480. story so sometimes what happens is when

  481. we uh find something that makes us feel

  482. unsafe the thing about Modern Life is

  483. you can always find an interpretation

  484. for that scripture that makes you feel

  485. better and I believe we do need to read

  486. scripture in the historical context I

  487. believe we need to understand the

  488. culture that it was written in I believe

  489. that we need to uh you know read it

  490. within the context of the scripture and

  491. and not just the isolated verse but in

  492. what it tells us about Jesus as a whole

  493. but I also know there can be a

  494. Temptation sometimes to try and use

  495. cultural context to excuse a picture of

  496. Jesus that makes us

  497. uncomfortable so with this passage I

  498. actually some theologians um write and I

  499. I I was reading something that said a

  500. cultural understanding of Temple

  501. practices shows the following about

  502. turning over the

  503. tables Jesus understood the customs of

  504. the day and the temple protocols and it

  505. was custom for a rabbi who wanted to

  506. teach in the outer courts to let some of

  507. the Traders know he needed to use their

  508. space he would do this by turning the

  509. tables over Jesus was clearing an area

  510. of trading because he wanted to step up

  511. and teach and needed some space for

  512. people on their congregants to hear it

  513. goes on to say whoops used to clear the

  514. animals out of the area so it is more

  515. likely that Jesus made the whip for that

  516. purpose or as a sign of power not to use

  517. an anger against people which I do agree

  518. I don't think he was using it in Anger

  519. against people he would not have dead

  520. strike the animals so they would blemish

  521. them and make them unfit for sacrifice

  522. Jesus was wanting to address the whole

  523. unfair Temple system and this is why he

  524. was doing that and

  525. so I would suggest to you the this

  526. morning that that's actually an

  527. interpretation born not out of scripture

  528. and actually not out of cultural context

  529. but out of someone feeling uncomfortable

  530. about a picture of Jesus and saying hey

  531. how can I make this picture of Jesus

  532. more palatable for me well maybe it was

  533. just a cultural norm maybe he was just

  534. doing what everyone else did the issue

  535. is the disciples noticed something in

  536. what he did and they said they were

  537. reminded of Psalm 69 where and realized

  538. it was actually a prophetic song about

  539. Jesus where it says

  540. Zeal for your house will consume me and

  541. when you look at that word zeal actually

  542. uh in the Hebrew word used in the psalm

  543. its most common in uh interpretation

  544. within the scripture is actually

  545. jealousy to be zealous or jealous so

  546. here we have Jesus overturning the the

  547. the the tables within the temple and it

  548. says he was doing it because he was

  549. consumed with jealousy you ever been

  550. around a jealous person ever seen

  551. someone who was consumed with jealousy

  552. well here Jesus is consumed with

  553. jealousy and we can kind of think well

  554. that's a little bit strange isn't

  555. jealousy a negative thing but the truth

  556. is it depends what you're jealous for

  557. and what you're jealous about so I don't

  558. believe this was just normal cultural

  559. practice even if that did happen in

  560. those days clearly something else was

  561. going on because the disciples looked at

  562. it and they said wow there's something

  563. going on here he seems to be consumed

  564. with

  565. jealousy what on Earth is he jealous

  566. about and so in John Chapter 2 sorry it

    John 2 chapter mention

  567. doesn't give us the answer but in the

  568. other gospels with his second

  569. overturning of the of the at the temple

  570. uh and passion week it tells us that

  571. Jesus says my house will be called a

  572. house of prayer for all nations but you

  573. have made it a den of robbers you see

  574. it's one thing that they were trading a

  575. a and and violating things within the

  576. house of God but Jesus wasn't just

  577. motivated by the fact that they were

  578. trading he was actually jealous for

  579. something else it wasn't just a matter

  580. of him not wanting them to sell things

  581. or money change in in the temple it was

  582. also the idea that he was actually

  583. jealous for something else and and what

  584. he says is he was jealous for the temple

  585. to be a house of

  586. prayer as a a church leader I can tell

  587. you I read scriptures like this very

  588. seriously because I

  589. wonder what would Jesus overturn in our

  590. church what would Jesus overturn in my

  591. life and sometimes we have a picture of

  592. Jesus that that's not what he does but

  593. he actually book ined his ministry with

  594. it he started and he finished by

  595. overturning Temple uh tables in the

  596. temple not because he was angry for the

  597. sake of anger but because he was jealous

  598. for what the temple was supposed to be

  599. and so it wasn't that for for for a

  600. negative reason it was actually he was

  601. jealous that the temple was to be a

  602. house of

  603. prayer and in doing that he actually

  604. quotes Isaiah

  605. 567 and uh he he quotes um this second

  606. part of it but the full verse says this

  607. I will bring to my Holy Mountain and

  608. give them joy in my house of prayer

  609. their burnt offerings and sacrifices

  610. will be accepted on my Altar for my

  611. house will be called a house of prayer

  612. for all

  613. nations as a church we're leaning into

  614. prayer presence and Mission and it's

  615. always been a church that has had a

  616. culture of prayer but we believe we must

  617. continue to focus on being a house of

  618. prayer or the very Jesus that we serve

  619. may be the one who has to come and turn

  620. over some tables within our Ministries

  621. to make us realize that he actually is

  622. burning with a heart for something

  623. now it's always interesting to talk

  624. about this because when we start talking

  625. about prayer probably the most common

  626. feeling for a lot of us is guilt right

  627. we kind of think oh that and uh you know

  628. we might have the person we look up to

  629. who we see as a PRI a warrior and the

  630. rest of us kind of feel like oh that's

  631. not really me I don't really fit with

  632. that I I've tried and yes I do have my

  633. prayer times but I've never really been

  634. able to push through and get into it or

  635. is

  636. um that just

  637. me prayer is not always

  638. easy but what's beautiful is this GES

  639. the the the Aaron Isaiah that Jesus

  640. quoted was this I will bring to my Holy

  641. Mountain and give them joy in the House

  642. of Prayer that Jesus actually wants to

  643. give us joy in the place of prayer and

  644. this is actually talking about corporate

  645. prayer that there is an invitation to a

  646. place of

  647. joy in the in the House of Prayer or in

  648. the place of prayer and in the place of

  649. corporate prayer there is actually a joy

  650. of the Lord that is released and there

  651. is something that shifts in our lives I

  652. remember in alexandraa we had a a guy

  653. who had just started coming back to

  654. church he his uh he hadn't been going

  655. for a long time and his wife said hey I

  656. really want you to come back and so in

  657. the end he agreed and he started coming

  658. back to church and then one night he

  659. turned up at the prayer meeting and I

  660. was like oh that's uh I'll be honest it

  661. wasn't in my frame that he was going to

  662. come and so he came to the prayer

  663. meeting and he sat through didn't um say

  664. a prayer which is fine I I was fine with

  665. but I kind of thought and then got up

  666. and left and I kind of thought oh wonder

  667. if we'll see him again turns up the next

  668. week turns up the next week turns up the

  669. next week and so uh I think at about

  670. week seven he maybe prayed like a one-

  671. sentence prayer and so he came for about

  672. 12 weeks and the leader said hey just

  673. before we start the person who was

  674. leading the prayer meeting what I want

  675. us to go around and and do is share what

  676. prayer meeting means for us and so I'm

  677. standing there thinking oh no you're

  678. putting this guy on the spot like he's

  679. only just started coming he doesn't pray

  680. like don't make him verbalize in front

  681. of everyone you know we want a safe

  682. environment is what I'm thinking and so

  683. he was like third in lines only two

  684. other people have gone and he goes and

  685. he says well I don't know if this is the

  686. right language for it or not but what

  687. prayer meeting is like for me it's

  688. basically like a

  689. drug and he said I come in with

  690. uh so much pressure he had a high

  691. pressure job I come in with so much on

  692. my plate and I sit and I feel all that

  693. pressure go and a joy

  694. come you know that guy continued to come

  695. to our prayer meetings for the remainder

  696. of his time before he left

  697. town the number of words that he prayed

  698. out loud didn't radically increase but

  699. there was something for him that he

  700. found by being in a place of corporate

  701. prayer where something shifted off his

  702. life and Jesus is quoting Isaiah where

  703. the Prophet says I will give you Joy In

  704. My House of Prayer there is something

  705. about the corporate place of prayer

  706. where Joy is

  707. released if you've been to enough prayer

  708. meetings you'll know not every time

  709. not sometimes it's hard

  710. work sometimes it's pushing through

  711. sometimes there are hard weeks but when

  712. we commit to the priority of what

  713. Christ's priority was there becomes this

  714. joy in the place of prayer and that

  715. which was once only discipline now

  716. actually becomes

  717. delight and so Jesus over turned the

  718. tables in the temple because he was

  719. jealous for God's house to be a place of

  720. prayer and can I say I am jealous for

  721. our church to be a place of prayer I'm

  722. jealous that we would be a community

  723. that would be known as a people of

  724. prayer how good was Tuesday night seeing

  725. thousands gather for a prayer meeting in

  726. total

  727. and so my hope is that

  728. 2025 will be a year where we experience

  729. joy in the place of prayer where we

  730. would come and you might think I don't

  731. go to prayer meetings because I don't

  732. even know how to pray out loud or I feel

  733. so self-conscious do you know you can

  734. come and just sit in the presence of God

  735. do you know you can come and agree with

  736. someone else's prayer do you know you

  737. can come and set that time aside to be

  738. in his

  739. presence so as we come into 2025 there

  740. are some ways to engage with corporate

  741. prayer in the church um so during term

  742. time we have Revival prayer meeting the

  743. first one is is this coming Tuesday from

  744. 7 to 8 it's in our prayer room you've

  745. got to come around the back and and head

  746. up the stairs but from 7 to 8 we pray um

  747. every Tuesday night during school term

  748. and um it's an amazing time together and

  749. we we always say hey this is obviously

  750. an invitation not an expectation where

  751. we're like we know different people have

  752. different things on doesn't suit

  753. everyone but can I encourage

  754. you if Tuesday night's your TV

  755. night my

  756. goodness something will shift when

  757. we swap TV night for Revival prayer you

  758. know um we have pre-service prayer on a

  759. Sunday um 9: 20 in here we pray for 10

  760. to 15 minutes and just pray for the

  761. service and you know it's always such an

  762. encouraging time we start off by just

  763. walking through and praying over the

  764. cheers and it always just stirs

  765. something in me when I see you know

  766. 203 35 people walking through just

  767. declaring God's blessing over the

  768. meeting over the chair over you over uh

  769. our city and something begins to shift

  770. you know obviously all of our life

  771. groups um have prayer within them one of

  772. the awesome thing that's just happened

  773. is Street reach has just started our

  774. Wednesday night homeless uh feeding

  775. program they've actually started

  776. receiving prayer requests and letting

  777. people write down their prayer requests

  778. and how many did they have the first

  779. week Scott it was a lot right like a

  780. dozen or something like that I think

  781. Adam said they had about a dozen

  782. requests the first week where people

  783. were just like man we want you so these

  784. aren't the entirety of prayer that goes

  785. on um but what we are going to do in the

  786. lead into lent is we're actually going

  787. to have 72 hours of rostered Prayer in

  788. the prayer room so uh what that means is

  789. um the QR code that we are um really uh

  790. promoting is a great way to be able to

  791. um connect in with what we're doing

  792. you'll see on that that there is an

  793. option to sign up for 72 hours of prayer

  794. that doesn't mean you have to sign up

  795. for 72 hours that means you sign up for

  796. a 1 hour slot within it and um can I say

  797. that for some of us I know an hour

  798. praying will be a

  799. challenge and that's a wonderful

  800. Challenge and for some of us it might be

  801. that signing up for a 2hour slop was a

  802. challenge and and that's a great

  803. challenge but what we're wanting to do

  804. with that is give an opportunity and so

  805. we realize some people won't be able to

  806. come into the building so you can uh

  807. sign up and pray from home but what

  808. we're trying to get as many people as

  809. possible if you can make it in come in

  810. and we'll make sure there's access

  811. and sign up for a time to say wow maybe

  812. just maybe Jesus is saying to us that he

  813. wants his house to be a House of Prayer

  814. maybe it's not just for those who uh

  815. feel called to be an intercessor maybe

  816. it's for all of us children a a and

  817. maybe we just need to reorientate

  818. ourselves even further to that reality

  819. that jesus' Ministry was punctuated by

  820. this act of overturning tables and the

  821. reason why was he burned with

  822. jealousy that his people would be people

  823. of prayer do you know I think it's

  824. Romans 4 I think uh certainly somewhere

  825. in Romans where it tells us that Jesus

  826. is still interceding right now isn't

  827. that amazing that when we decide to go

  828. into the place of prayer we are actually

  829. mirroring the actions of our savior in

  830. heaven isn't that

  831. amazing and so I think you know if if

  832. One Hour of Prayer you're like man I

  833. don't know how I can do that do you know

  834. the beauty is you sign up and then you

  835. find a way to make it work Tyler Staten

  836. says this we learn to Pray by

  837. praying it's pretty simple that's how we

  838. learn to pray and so we may feel like

  839. wow I don't know if if I can do that

  840. that's

  841. okay we can sign up and learn to Pray by

  842. praying and so we're really excited as a

  843. church as we just lean in to uh this

  844. aspect of prayer as we lean in we know

  845. that God is calling us to

  846. this that we would be a community that

  847. would be

  848. known as a church that prays it has been

  849. for decades been known as a church that

  850. prays and I want to honor uh Michelle

  851. for the prayer line and the work that

  852. she does can we just show our

  853. appreciation for that

  854. um you know there's a whole team behind

  855. her and um you know when there's needs

  856. they get sent out and and they'll

  857. they'll send out by text and so it means

  858. in real time when someone's in need we

  859. have a an army of Prayer Warriors who

  860. pray and believe for breakthrough and

  861. that's been happening for decades under

  862. the leadership of dor and Debbie and um

  863. it's just been amazing so you know we we

  864. we have that culture but we want it to

  865. continue and we want us to shift this

  866. idea that prayer is for a particular

  867. person or it's for someone else and we

  868. want to invite you as part of the church

  869. family that there is actually a mantle

  870. on our church to step into this place of

  871. prayer there is a mantle to see break

  872. through in the place of prayer why don't

  873. you place your hand on your heart Lord

  874. Lord thank

  875. you Lord that you didn't turn over the

  876. tables in the temple because you were

  877. angry about something as much as you

  878. turned them over because you were

  879. jealous for

  880. something and Lord I pray for each one

  881. of us that our heart would be gripped

  882. with what gripped Your Heart Lord that

  883. our heart would uh sense the invitation

  884. of you

  885. into this place of prayer and Lord that

  886. would be for us individually and it

  887. would also be for us corporately as a

  888. church Lord I bless each person hearing

  889. my voice that they would know that sense

  890. of uh your presence with

  891. them Lord they know that sense of Grace

  892. Lord that they wouldn't look internally

  893. to their limitations but Lord all of us

  894. would look to you and your grace and

  895. believe that you would be empowering us

  896. to pray in Jesus Jesus mighty name amen

  897. I'll just hand over to Sarah who's just

  898. going to give us some final notices you

  899. will also see on the door out there is

  900. an envelope um if you're wanting to uh

  901. take an envelope away for the upper room

  902. project we will be creating an offering

  903. moment on the 2nd of uh March so you may

  904. want to fill in a uh envelope and we'll

  905. have an opportunity to uh present those

  906. but
