  1. By way of start, I've invited Lisa to

  2. come and share uh a little bit of what's

  3. been happening at uh Tiny Boppers. So,

  4. can we give her a welcome? We could

  5. probably do better than that. Yeah. Come

  6. on. Come on. Bring it. Good morning,

  7. church. Um so, I'm Lisa and I have the

  8. amazing privilege of leading our Tiny

  9. Bobers team. If you don't know who we

  10. are or what we do, we meet on a Friday

  11. morning uh right next door and we

  12. minister to moms, bubs, dads, caregivers

  13. that come along. And about 6 months ago,

  14. we were averaging about 50 people. When

  15. I took it over 18 months ago, that's

  16. where we're at. And we've continued

  17. along that trajectory. It's it's gone up

  18. a little bit, it's gone down a little

  19. bit. But lately, we've been getting over

  20. a hundred people every week on a Friday

  21. morning. And most of these people, they

  22. don't come to church. They don't know

  23. what we do. It's super exciting. It's

  24. super exciting that the team get to have

  25. conversations about God. Sometimes we

  26. get to pray with people and we're just

  27. super excited as a team for what God is

  28. doing in tiny buffers in this place. So,

  29. you may not know about what we do. Uh

  30. so, that's why I'm here to tell you

  31. about how amazing God is through this

  32. program. So, what we need because of our

  33. exponential growth that God is doing is

  34. we don't want to cap numbers. We want to

  35. keep our doors open for more people. But

  36. what that means is I need more people.

  37. So, I need more people on my team. My

  38. team of 20 are amazing. They're all

  39. awesome individuals, but I'd really love

  40. more people. So, if you have some

  41. availability on a Friday morning uh

  42. between about 8:30 and 11:30, please

  43. come and see me out in the street.

  44. Otherwise, I might come and shoulder tap

  45. you. Um specifically, we need people um

  46. for we're going to have to do a pack

  47. down a setup team because we are

  48. actually planning on moving into this

  49. space in here to accommodate our growth.

  50. Okay. So, we need people for sound. We

  51. need strong men who know how to stack

  52. cars out there, you know, because the

  53. car parking is not so great. So, if

  54. you're one of those men who could help

  55. with that or help with pack down and set

  56. up of our chairs, we'd really appreciate

  57. your help once a fortnight if you could

  58. master that. So, um so that's a bit

  59. about what we do on a Friday. We just

  60. love it. We have a little music program.

  61. Then we do um an epic morning tea which

  62. Lily leads up in the kitchen. And we

  63. feed people well. And we're actually

  64. known really well in the community for

  65. feeding people. Okay? So, we feed people

  66. not only through food, but through our

  67. love. Our mantra at Tiny Boppers is to

  68. love always. And we do it so well as a

  69. team. And we're just so blessed. We've

  70. got the backing of you guys. But I also

  71. want more people on my team to just come

  72. and be connectors. So, if you can come

  73. once a fortnight and maybe you're a

  74. lovely grandma who loves to hold babies

  75. or maybe you're super young like me or

  76. somewhere in the middle um and you just

  77. want to come and give some time and

  78. maybe just connecting with moms and have

  79. the opportunity to pray with people. Um

  80. I'd really love to speak to you. So

  81. awesome. So super excited for what God

  82. is doing in Tiny Bobers. So please

  83. continue to pray for us in our ministry

  84. as we um as we go forward this year.

  85. Thanks guys.

  86. Isn't that good?

  87. So

  88. good. Wow. And Father, we do thank you

  89. for uh tiny bees. Lord, we pray that

  90. there would continue to be a harvest,

  91. Lord. Lord, even for those who have been

  92. coming for a while, Lord, may um may you

  93. touch their hearts, Lord. May they come

  94. into a relationship with you, Lord. We

  95. bless uh Lisa, we bless the team, Lord.

  96. everyone who leads in that space. God,

  97. would your grace be upon them in Jesus

  98. mighty name.

  99. Amen.

  100. Wow. It's been uh a few weeks since uh

  101. since I've shared. Someone asked me the

  102. other week, "Do you still speak here?"

  103. Um so I was like, "Yeah, I stopped

  104. speaking and numbers just kept growing

  105. up." So, you know, we'll um we'll see.

  106. Uh so it's been um awesome to have uh

  107. such amazing ministry to have uh pastor

  108. Trevor speak a few weeks ago and then to

  109. have Matt Lans down then Britney Serpel.

  110. It's been amazing right and uh as a

  111. church you know we believe that uh

  112. prayer presence and mission we believe

  113. that we are to be a place of presence

  114. and we're to know what it is to respond

  115. to the moments of the Holy Spirit. Like

  116. there are moments when the Holy Spirit

  117. is doing something and we lean into that

  118. like and sometimes those can be quite uh

  119. that can be quite a simple thing like

  120. just before at the end when I was

  121. praying that the name of Jesus would be

  122. over people's minds. That's because I

  123. sense the Holy Spirit was doing

  124. something in that moment. And so we need

  125. to be sensitive to that. We see that in

  126. the life of Jesus where he was teaching

  127. and it says in Luke 5:17 and the power

    Luke 5:17

  128. of the Lord was there to heal. So there

  129. was this moment where it was like yes

  130. it's always a good time to pray for the

  131. sick but there seemed to be this moment

  132. where it was like this is what the

  133. spirit is doing in this moment.

  134. But God, yes, he works in moments, but

  135. he also works in seasons. And so, it's

  136. one thing to know the moments of the

  137. Holy Spirit, and we need to know what

  138. the moments of the Holy Spirit are, but

  139. we also need to know what the seasons of

  140. the spirit are. And uh you know I'm

  141. familiar with different seasons when you

  142. spend some time in central

  143. Atago because when we moved down there

  144. uh we I I didn't have a job. So I

  145. applied and uh funnily enough a few

  146. people didn't want me. And so in the end

  147. I got a job at the local Nissen um as a

  148. parts advisor. The only problem was I

  149. knew nothing about car parts. And I'm

  150. not exaggerating. I knew nothing. And so

  151. what would happen is central it

  152. targetago, you know, you'd have people

  153. that would come in uh for their car

  154. chat, right? And so they'd come in and

  155. their spates drinking, deep voice,

  156. facial hair, and that was just the

  157. woman. And then, you know, the then the

  158. men would come in and they'd come in on

  159. a Saturday morning and they'd want

  160. nothing more than their bit of a car

  161. chat, you know, like, "Yeah, good day,

  162. mate. I'm looking for one of these. is

  163. it true that the the turbo on the D21

  164. slightly different than the D22? And

  165. I'll be like, I'll just go away and find

  166. out for you. You know, it was quite

  167. emasculating for me. But anyway, while I

  168. was there, funnily enough, maybe partly

  169. due to having a parts guy like me, the

  170. company wasn't doing so well. So, it was

  171. in a hard season. We had two

  172. apprentices. One of them was quite good

  173. and one of them was a work in progress

  174. would be the polite way of saying it.

  175. And uh the thing about the one who was a

  176. work in progress was whenever he didn't

  177. quite get it right, he always had an

  178. excuse, even if the excuse was no good.

  179. Like we had this uh you know new Nissan

  180. ute about to go out, brand new. It's

  181. been groomed. It's been everything. The

  182. last job was to put the number plate on

  183. it. So someone's going to pick up like a

  184. $70,000 ute including accessories. I go

  185. out to give it one look over before the

  186. customer comes and the license plate is

  187. on on an

  188. angle. And so I said to the apprentice,

  189. "Hey, hey, do you notice anything about

  190. the truck?" You know, they told me,

  191. "Don't tell. Always ask."

  192. Self-discovery. You know, people go on

  193. their journey. They learn more if you

  194. ask them to discover it themselves. So,

  195. I'm like, "Hey, open your eyes and have

  196. a look. Do you do you notice anything?"

  197. And uh straight away his response was,

  198. "Well, it was straight when I put it on.

  199. like, "Yes, yeah, someone's come and

  200. unscrewed it and twisted it in the last

  201. 3 minutes." Um, anyway, so we had he

  202. wasn't such a great apprentice. The

  203. other apprentice was an amazing

  204. apprentice. So, what happens on this day

  205. is um he decides that it's time to go

  206. and ask for a payriseise. The problem is

  207. it's in like the worst month of the

  208. company's history. And here's the tip

  209. for anyone thinking about asking for a

  210. payriseise. He also chose to do it on a

  211. Monday. Never ask for a pay rise on a

  212. Monday. Always ask for a payriseise on a

  213. Friday. Like people are happy on a

  214. Friday. You don't want to like So, you

  215. know, staff, you cannot book a meeting

  216. with me on Friday. No. Um, but don't ask

  217. for a payriseise on a Monday. But you

  218. see, he didn't realize what the season

  219. was. It was actually the season where

  220. the owner was doing everything to keep

  221. him in work. and he had the wrong

  222. season. And so when we don't understand

  223. the seasons that we're living in, the

  224. action that would be totally acceptable

  225. in one season becomes totally wrong in a

  226. different season. And Jesus talked a lot

  227. about being able to tell the signs of

  228. the times and knowing the seasons. uh

  229. Luke 5:17 um sorry not Luke 5:17 Luke

    Luke 5:17 Luke 5:17 Luke 12:56

  230. 12:56 he said you hypocrites you know

  231. how to interpret the appearance of the

  232. earth and the sky but why don't you know

  233. how to interpret this present time how

  234. come you can't interpret what's

  235. happening in the times and so we need to

  236. know what seasons we're living in

  237. sometimes uh what's happened in

  238. Pentecostal churches is we've tried to

  239. take a word and call it a season. Like

  240. people be like, "It's a season of debt

  241. recovery." And it's like, "Yeah, God

  242. might be doing that in some people's

  243. lives, but it's possibly not a season

  244. right across the earth, right? Sometimes

  245. people are like, I have the word of the

  246. Lord for

  247. 2025." And yeah, sometimes they do, but

  248. sometimes it's a personal word. It's not

  249. actually a new season. And so I wonder

  250. if we are in a new season like I believe

  251. we are, what season are we

  252. in? Because if we don't understand the

  253. season, we will not understand what we

  254. are called to do in that season.

  255. I wonder this will either prove a great

  256. point or not a great point, but we'll we

  257. we'll we'll try it out. I wonder if

  258. you're here uh if you and you have

  259. either come to Jesus, so you didn't

  260. previously have a faith in Christ and

  261. you've put your faith in Christ or uh

  262. you were away from Jesus and you've come

  263. back since 2018. Don't worry, I'm not

  264. going to get you to do anything else

  265. other than pop your hand up. If you've

  266. come back to Jesus since

  267. 2018 or you've given your life to Jesus,

  268. can you put your hand up now? Just be

  269. nice and

  270. brave. So if you look around, you can

  271. see like there are a number of hands

  272. going up. Number of hands in the Audi.

  273. Like there are um lots of hands going

  274. up. What I would say to you is if you

  275. did that 10 years ago, you would not

  276. have seen as many hands going up. You

  277. would have seen some but not as many.

  278. Sarah referenced Pastor Boyd. I showed

  279. um my notes because it was in my notes

  280. but I can provide a slight correction.

  281. It was at Elen Wimbleton he preached. Um

  282. he said uh not that you know that's a

  283. good tip there. Husbands always correct

  284. your wife in public.

  285. E hope that couch is okay

  286. tonight.

  287. Uh he said still buzzing from preaching

  288. at Elim Wimbledon yesterday. This church

  289. is on fire. Baptisms every Sunday, every

  290. service. People running to Jesus. Faith

  291. in the room. Hunger on another level. I

  292. witnessed an 84 year old get baptized

  293. last Sunday. You can't fake something

  294. like this. Isn't that awesome? That's

  295. good news.

  296. You know, I think uh for me it was the

  297. first time when the lions got baptized

  298. that I'd ever seen three generations

  299. baptized in the same day like uh last

  300. year. Wasn't that amazing? Just to see

  301. what God is doing. And then we read

  302. things or we we we we have experiences

  303. like, you know, 10 to 12 young people

  304. getting baptized every term, every time

  305. we do a baptism. I'm like, I guess it's

  306. going to be a down one this time. It

  307. might be three or four. No, it's another

  308. eight, another 10, another 12. There's

  309. just this thing that God is doing in our

  310. midst. And maybe you've come in and

  311. maybe you are new because of it. Maybe

  312. uh you've come in and and you're

  313. experiencing it and seeing, wow, it

  314. seems like God is doing something. Can I

  315. say to you, he's not just doing

  316. something here. It's actually a season.

  317. That's right. And if we can have the

  318. statistics up from uh so uh the Bible

  319. society in the UK done a study uh called

  320. the quiet revival and uh they actually

  321. hired an external polling firm. So this

  322. wasn't like just churches reporting to

  323. themselves. This was actually a a an

  324. organization called Yuggov that did a

  325. study on church attendance from 2018 to

  326. 2024. what they were asking people of do

  327. you go to church at least once a month

  328. and consider yourself a Christian so in

  329. 2018 8% of people in the UK said I go to

  330. church once a month or I'm a Christian

  331. and uh that grew over a period of 6

  332. years to be 12%. Now that's 50% increase

  333. on top of population growth. So you got

  334. population growth then you've also got

  335. increase. You'll see in 18 to 24 year

  336. olds it's grown from four to

  337. 16%. I asked AI if that continued at the

  338. same level of growth in another six

  339. years what percentage of 18 to 24 year

  340. olds would be in church and it said 64%.

  341. I was like, "Wow, that's just if the if

  342. what's happened in the last six years

  343. replicated over the next six years and

  344. you can see the different age groups um

  345. and uh and the growth or the slight

  346. decline in some age groups that there's

  347. been, but there's actually signs that

  348. this is not oneoff churches that this is

  349. something that God is doing." How is

  350. this for a headline in vanity fear?

  351. Christianity was borderline illegal in

  352. Silicon Valley and it's now the new

  353. religion. That's awesome. Isn't that

  354. amazing? Like uh the uh the Wall Street

  355. Journal did an article about Bible sales

  356. in America that said in 2023 they have

  357. grown by

  358. 22% while book uh growth grew by 1%. So

  359. books grew by 1%, Bible sales grew by

  360. 22%. You have the Wall Street Journal

  361. saying part of the reason for this is

  362. because younger people are interested in

  363. the faith.

  364. Isn't that amazing?

  365. Um and so we are in a season where God

  366. is doing

  367. something and we need to respond to

  368. that. Now, what I'm not saying is we're

  369. in a season of perfection where it means

  370. the world is all perfect. There is

  371. actually a lot of public hostility to

  372. the gospel. There is a lot of public

  373. hostility to what God is doing. But in

  374. the midst of public hostility, there's

  375. actually a huge private openness. And

  376. so, we have both of these coexisting. It

  377. doesn't mean, wow, everything in the

  378. world is now amazing. And can I say as

  379. well, it's not that we are seeking a

  380. return to cultural Christianity where

  381. it's like, well, we will be a Christian

  382. nation. No, it's not so much that. It's

  383. more that people would encounter the

  384. risen Christ and their lives would be

  385. transformed. And yes, the fruit of that

  386. might be some moral outcomes in our

  387. society, but actually the goal isn't

  388. moral outcomes. The goal is lives

  389. transformed by the reality of who Jesus

  390. is because it's a season we're walking

  391. in. Someone asked me the other week,

  392. um, hey, obviously there's been a little

  393. bit of growth in church. There's been

  394. people saved. How do you find that?

  395. Like, how's your pride level? And um I

  396. was like, well, you know, you're

  397. ignorant to ever think that you are

  398. immune from pride. So I'm like, you

  399. know, your starting point is, hey,

  400. there's probably some pride somewhere

  401. and when when I think there's the least

  402. pride, that's probably when there's

  403. more, right? But I've been in ministry

  404. for 17 years and I can tell you, I

  405. realize what's happening isn't because

  406. of Sarah and I. Like we realize that

  407. because we've done this for a while and

  408. we actually realized there was this has

  409. been happening and the momentum started

  410. years ago that even when we first came

  411. back to visit we were like wow we just

  412. noticed as we're talking to people that

  413. there were people who had come back who

  414. were saved and we're like wow God is

  415. really doing something and that was

  416. happening well before we arrived and it

  417. is accelerating but we realize man on

  418. our best

  419. day, we don't have a hope of seeing what

  420. God is doing. It's all about him. And I

  421. don't say that as some form of humble

  422. brag. It's 100% like we know that we

  423. can't do this. It's not us that's doing

  424. something. It's God that's doing

  425. something. And it's not just that he's

  426. doing it here, but he's doing it across

  427. the earth. And how amazing. So, we are

  428. in a new season.

  429. The thing that happens though is our

  430. thinking gets shaped by the seasons that

  431. we were in. So if we previously were in

  432. a season where it did seem like people

  433. weren't so open to the gospel like for a

  434. fairly long period of time, our thinking

  435. gets shaped by that season, doesn't it?

  436. So our thinking actually gets shaped by

  437. a particular season. And so one of the

  438. things that happens is when the season

  439. changes, we actually need to change our

  440. way of thinking so that we align with

  441. the new season. And and like the Lord,

  442. there's prophetic scriptures like sing

  443. to the Lord a new song. And and it's

  444. it's an invitation to actually begin to

  445. partner with a new season.

  446. And so, how was our thinking formed in

  447. the last season? You know, in

  448. Alexandria, it was funny. We uh sold our

  449. church building and and and bought a new

  450. one and we're in the middle of a

  451. building project. And um it was

  452. reasonably being a small town, um when

  453. your church goes on the market, people

  454. notice because it was on a prominent

  455. area, people drive past it all the time.

  456. And so, you would have people um I had

  457. probably three different people say to

  458. me who who weren't Christians, "Oh, I

  459. I'm sorry. I see you've had to sell your

  460. church and um oh, you know, are you

  461. going to be okay? And I'm like, oh yeah.

  462. Uh by the second one, I actually played

  463. it up a bit. I was kind of like, oh

  464. yeah, it's a real pain. We're going to

  465. have to be down at the school hall while

  466. we build our new bigger auditorium so

  467. that we can fit people in who God's

  468. bringing. And it was like, but there was

  469. this idea that wow, it must be

  470. struggling. And that has been the lot

  471. for a for an amount of time, right? Not

  472. universally. Some churches went ahead,

  473. but by and large, statistics would say

  474. Christianity was on the decline. And you

  475. know, as someone who'd been in

  476. ministering around church for a while,

  477. you know, you'd heard the saying that

  478. there will be a move of God through

  479. young people for decades.

  480. And on your worst moments, you began to

  481. think, is this just something we say to

  482. ourselves to kind of encourage ourselves

  483. as there seems to be an inevitable

  484. decline? Like there were times when it

  485. felt like that, weren't there? Like is

  486. this just something we say and a as as

  487. things go down? And then what happened

  488. was during that period there was not

  489. necessarily a whole lot of openness to

  490. the gospel. Like I think we would all

  491. acknowledge like society didn't really

  492. feel like a place where people wanted

  493. you to share their faith, your faith.

  494. And so Barner did some research because

  495. and they began to encourage us with

  496. reports that said, "Hey, this is how

  497. many interactions it takes with someone

  498. to become a follower of Christ. So if

  499. they start over here, then what happens

  500. is because the society is a lot more

  501. secular, they need a lot of

  502. interactions." And that was true for the

  503. time that people needed a lot of

  504. interactions to come to Christ. And we

  505. found often if you just went up to them,

  506. of course there were exceptions, but I'm

  507. talking in uh broad brush strokes. If

  508. you went up to them and talked to them

  509. about Jesus, generally there wasn't a

  510. straightaway response. And so we began

  511. to think, okay, we need to be a little

  512. bit more strategic. Hey, yes, they know

  513. I'm a Christian and it's a good start if

  514. they don't think I'm totally weird, only

  515. just a little bit. And then maybe, you

  516. know, I mow my neighbor's lawn and they

  517. know I'm a Christian. And so we go, hey,

  518. this is a step towards that. We begin to

  519. take these steps. And then hopefully

  520. somewhere down the track, there'll be

  521. this after years of different people uh

  522. reaching out. You know, I remember when

  523. I first started going to youth group, I

  524. would do things like arrange a cricket

  525. match between my youth group and my

  526. school cricket team. And the idea wasn't

  527. that we would share Jesus. The idea

  528. initially was just let's get some

  529. relationship happening and hey the

  530. Christians will bring the food and

  531. that's how we'll serve you because we're

  532. trying to break down barriers because it

  533. felt like there was a lot of hostility.

  534. Does anyone else kind of identify with

  535. that sort of

  536. season and so our thinking gets shaped

  537. by those seasons.

  538. I had someone across uh the road. I went

  539. to uh talk to the owner about the car

  540. park because um we needed to to get the

  541. owner of diesel mechanics to move their

  542. cars a bit better on a Sunday morning so

  543. we could uh for everyone. I was sitting

  544. in there waiting and this lady came in

  545. and sat down next to me and she said,

  546. "Oh, I'm waiting for are you waiting for

  547. your car?" And I said, "Oh, no. I'm the

  548. pastor of the church next door and I'm

  549. coming to talk to them about car

  550. parking." And she said, "Oh, you're a

  551. pastor. You don't look like a pastor." I

  552. was like, "Oh, yeah.

  553. I don't know what to make of that, but

  554. that's

  555. okay." I'm sure she meant you're better

  556. looking. Um, but maybe

  557. not. And then she said, "Oh, how's that

  558. working out for

  559. you?" And I said, "Oh, it's really

  560. good." And she said, "Cuz people aren't

  561. really that interested in church, are

  562. they?" And I was like, "Oh, your

  563. thinking's been formed by the old

  564. season." Yeah. I was like, well, I was

  565. able to say, I can tell you tonight

  566. there'll be like 120 young people

  567. gathered at church. And she was like,

  568. really? And I'm like, yeah, the reason

  569. why we need to talk to the guys is we

  570. can't get everyone parked when they come

  571. on a Sunday. So, we need these guys to

  572. clear their park. She's like, wow. And

  573. why do you think that is?

  574. And you know, I was like, "Wow, here's

  575. an opportunity to let her know it's a

  576. different

  577. season." And I think a little bit of

  578. what's happened is uh to have a little

  579. bit of cultural analysis. I definitely

  580. think it's something that God is doing.

  581. clearly the Holy Spirit, but also what's

  582. happened is you you would have seen in

  583. that quiet revival statistic that people

  584. of my age and and sort of 20 years older

  585. that 45 to 65 gap were actually the only

  586. ones that dropped off, right? And

  587. actually that was a generation uh that

  588. actually really embraced uh atheism and

  589. secularism in a in a huge way. And

  590. uh what I believe has happened is the

  591. enemy thought he was winning and

  592. actually what he has done is provide a

  593. poster child for what the next

  594. generation didn't want to

  595. be. And I don't mean this to be

  596. triggering in any way to people. I'm not

  597. meaning this disrespectfully. And

  598. there's huge grace for I know people

  599. have gone through different situations.

  600. But many of them have seen uh multiple

  601. divorces in their families and have been

  602. like wow I I I see the brokenness that's

  603. come through some of the fruits of our

  604. society. And then where that hasn't

  605. happened sometimes what they've seen is

  606. wow mom and dad are successful and that

  607. looks like flat whites Monday to

  608. Thursday a nice glass of sav on a Friday

  609. night and once a year a trip to the Gold

  610. Coast and none of those things are bad

  611. but they're going man I don't think that

  612. make that makes a good week it doesn't

  613. make a good life like it makes a good

  614. day like finishing a Friday with a glass

  615. of sav that's not a bad end to a day.

  616. But if that's the highlight of your

  617. week, they're like, "Wow, we are

  618. drowning for meaning." And so the next

  619. generation have looked and and the Holy

  620. Spirit's been moving and saying, "Wow,

  621. look at this." And so what does teenage

  622. rebellion look like to a

  623. generation that have seen their parents

  624. abandon faith? They're like, "Wow, I see

  625. the fruit of it and man, I am going to

  626. turn back to God." And so you actually

  627. have teenage rebellion is people turning

  628. to Jesus because they've seen the

  629. fruitlessness of sec of secularism.

  630. Isn't God

  631. amazing? So how do we

  632. adjust to the new season?

  633. You know, Paul encouraged Timothy to be

  634. ready in season and out of season with

  635. preaching, which actually tells us two

  636. things. Number one, we're not meant to

  637. solely be defined by the season, but

  638. there actually are in season and out of

  639. season. There are seasons where people

  640. are more receptive to the gospel and

  641. there are seasons where people are less

  642. receptive to the gospel. We need to be

  643. faithful in both of them. But there is a

  644. reality that there are seasons where

  645. people are more receptive to the gospel.

  646. And this morning really more than

  647. anything else, what I what I wanted to

  648. provoke us with is that maybe we need to

  649. change our thinking and our language

  650. about

  651. things. And you know it says

  652. in sorry let me find my

  653. scripture. It says in 1 Peter 3:14-16

    1 Peter 3:14–16

  654. but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord

  655. is holy. Always be prepared to make a

  656. defense to anyone who asks you for a

  657. reason for the hope that is in you. Yet

  658. do it with gentleness and respect having

  659. a good comp conf uh conscience. So when

  660. you are slandered, those who revile your

  661. good behavior in Christ may be put to

  662. shame. It's kind of funny. Always be

  663. willing to give an answer for the hope.

  664. And

  665. um there weren't as many people asking

  666. 10 years ago. It did happen. Not saying

  667. it wasn't at all, but there weren't as

  668. many people asking. And actually

  669. gentleness and respect look like

  670. something different when people aren't

  671. open, right? Like there's actually a

  672. respect that we have for people when

  673. they are not open. That means I'm

  674. willing to give a reason for the hope.

  675. But gentleness and respect actually

  676. means I'm not going to push it too far

  677. because I actually understand you're not

  678. open. But if the season has changed,

  679. then what does gentleness and respect

  680. look like in a season when people are

  681. open? Is it possible that some of us are

  682. are figuratively saying, "I'll I'll know

  683. my I'll mow my neighbors lawn and they

  684. know that I'm a Christian and that will

  685. be a touching to them and they're

  686. actually waiting for us to tell them

  687. about Jesus in this season." What if

  688. something that was actually a good thing

  689. in the last season if we allow that to

  690. be our thinking would actually be a

  691. hindrance in this season because that

  692. person is actually waiting for you to

  693. talk to them about Jesus, not just to

  694. have their lawn mowed. Yeah,

  695. I was outside Jordan at Jordan's rugby

  696. game the other week and you know you get

  697. there early while they warm up and um a

  698. parent said to me, "Oh, how come you've

  699. moved back up?" And I said, "Oh, I'm a

  700. I'm a pastor." And he said, "Um, how'd

  701. you get into that?" And I mean, this is

  702. kind of like there's people all around.

  703. And you know, I'm being honest, my

  704. thinking is still formed by a former

  705. season. And so I'm all of these people

  706. are around and I'm I'm not ashamed, but

  707. I'm kind of thinking, okay, I need to

  708. just kind of work out how how much do I

  709. share on the side of the rugby pitch?

  710. And so he's asked a question. So he

  711. said, hey, um, how how did you get into

  712. that? And I said, "Oh, well, I guess for

  713. me, Jesus really touched my life." And

  714. that meant, you know, as I pursued that,

  715. you know, I became a pastor. And so I

  716. kind of thought I was excited. I

  717. thought, "Hey, that's great. I got to

  718. share these guys around herd like people

  719. know I'm a Christian. How good is that?

  720. Because you

  721. know in the former season it was always

  722. like at what point do how do I get into

  723. the conversation that I'm a Christian?

  724. Right? Like I was often like hey how do

  725. I actually get it known? Like I I want

  726. to be able to drop it in in some way

  727. that's seamless, but I don't want it to

  728. be awkward but I I don't want to turn

  729. them off but I don't know what do I And

  730. so I was like ah this is cool. People

  731. have heard. And so I thought that was

  732. the end of the conversation. And then he

  733. he said to me, "Well, did you come from

  734. a relig religious family or or not?" And

  735. I'm like, "Okay, now I've got to give

  736. him my testimony because I'm like, you

  737. know, so so but here he was just open

  738. and then quite comfortable in the next

  739. uh 15 sentences to drop 38 fbombs and uh

  740. like which which I was actually okay

  741. with. I'm like he's being himself. He's

  742. just being who he is." And so, you know,

  743. sometimes we actually don't need to get

  744. too upset about that. like our ears

  745. maybe aren't as precious as we think

  746. they are. We can actually handle hearing

  747. an F-bomb and going, "Hey, that's okay.

  748. This is just who the person is. We don't

  749. need to freak out. They're not going to

  750. curse your ears." It's like, and so we

  751. just then stood on the sideline after

  752. that and had this conversation about

  753. everything. But I was like, man, that

  754. would have happened on occasions, but I

  755. can tell you just the openness to keep

  756. asking questions was something that is a

  757. new season. So, we need to be willing

  758. to move with that.

  759. The other thing we need to do is

  760. uh in Zechariah 10:1 he says ask the

    Zechariah 10:1

  761. Lord for rain in the season of rain. So

  762. it's one thing to contend for things

  763. that we want to see God do. Right?

  764. That's one aspect of prayer. There's

  765. another aspect of prayer where we see

  766. what God is doing and we pray into that.

  767. And so this is literally talking about

  768. literal rain, but it's also prophetic,

  769. right? So it's saying, "Hey, in a season

  770. of rain, ask for rain. In a season where

  771. people are coming back to Jesus, ask."

  772. And so we get to partner our prayers

  773. with what God is doing. We're not just

  774. to be casual bystanders saying, "This is

  775. the season. Wow. this is the season.

  776. Let's pour fire on it with our prayers.

  777. Let's begin to declare, you know, and so

  778. I began to as I've just been realizing

  779. this is happening everywhere. Part of my

  780. daily prayer time is actually like, wow,

  781. Lord, this season that we're in, help me

  782. be aware to it. But would you keep

  783. moving, Lord? Would you keep touching?

  784. Would young people keep coming back to

  785. you, Lord? Would there be a move of you?

  786. Let's partner with what God is doing.

  787. Let's ask for rain in the season of

  788. rain.

  789. It's quite amazing.

  790. Um,

  791. two two years ago, I um actually

  792. preached almost to the day. Um, and

  793. funnily enough, Pastor Trevor hadn't

  794. preached for three weeks in a row, just

  795. like I had hadn't preached for. and uh I

  796. was coming up to do something for growth

  797. culture and uh pastor said, "Hey, I'm

  798. going to get you to preach, but we'll do

  799. it as a surprise." Um so uh you know uh

  800. so that was on the 21st of May 2023. So,

  801. I was just here as a guest speaker and

  802. um I spoke on multigenerational revival

  803. and um I don't um it's just amazing

  804. because as I say sometimes when you're

  805. seeing a seed of something and you begin

  806. to declare it and you're like man I I

  807. don't even know is this and you know one

  808. of the quotes in that message was

  809. revival might be coming to young people

  810. but it is coming through every

  811. generation.

  812. Everybody has a part to play in a

  813. multi-generational revival.

  814. You know Jesus in John

  815. 4, he said to them, "Hey, you look and

  816. you say it is four months till harvest,

  817. but I tell you the harvest is plentiful

  818. now." now. And so he was using a natural

  819. illustration that they were an

  820. agricultural society that you believe

  821. it's this long till harvest, but I tell

  822. you the harvest is plentiful. And so I'm

  823. not doing exugesus now where this

  824. explaining what the original text meant.

  825. I I believe the Lord spoke something

  826. prophetic to me out of this passage

  827. where he was like, we as a church in New

  828. Zealand have been in a season where we

  829. have been taught it's four months till

  830. harvest. Hey, you need to have step one

  831. with the person, step two, step three,

  832. step four, step five, step six, harvest,

  833. right? And that actually was the season

  834. we were in. I know we tried to fight it.

  835. We tried to be like, "No, it's not.

  836. We're going to see." But that was the

  837. season we were in. And I believe the

  838. Lord is saying, "No longer will we say 8

  839. years to harvest. Now he is pouring

  840. something out where harvest time is

  841. now." And he's already doing it w

  842. largely without many of us being aware.

  843. Like he's been doing it since 2018. And

  844. now we're catching up going, "Oh God, we

  845. see what you're doing." And he's like,

  846. "Now I want you to change your thinking

  847. that it is no longer 4 months till

  848. harvest, but the harvest is plentiful."

  849. And so that doesn't mean you need to

  850. stand on your soapbox, but it does mean

  851. with gentleness and respect, all of us

  852. need to throw off the thinking of the

  853. old season and realize that we are in a

  854. season where people are open to hearing

  855. about Jesus.

  856. So awesome to hear uh Pastor Trevor and

  857. Pastor Debbie both ministering down in

  858. Christ Church, both seeing people saved

  859. uh in each service. And it's just

  860. happening right across the board just in

  861. so many

  862. places. And so we want to partner our

  863. hearts to the season that God is doing.

  864. We want to partner with him. And so I

  865. want to pray over us this morning that

  866. where there is thinking that has been

  867. established that really is like it's so

  868. long till harvest that maybe where some

  869. of those mindsets have come and we don't

  870. even know they're there that they would

  871. be shattered not with some foolish

  872. boldness but with a wise boldness that

  873. would love well. That wouldn't be trying

  874. to shove the gospel down people's throat

  875. but would love people well. but that we

  876. would step into a season of boldness

  877. coupled with gentleness and respect. Why

  878. don't you place your hand on your

  879. heart? Wow. Jesus, we thank you Lord

  880. that you gave your life for us and Lord

  881. that we were once

  882. lost and you made us born again of your

  883. spirit. Yeah. And Lord, we thank you for

  884. what you are doing on the earth. Lord,

  885. we acknowledge that that's not what any

  886. man is doing. It's not what any woman's

  887. doing. Lord, it's what you're doing.

  888. Jesus, you came to seek and save the

  889. lost. But Father, I ask for each one of

  890. us if we have mindsets that have been

  891. from a former season. Lord, would you

  892. convict us when we have those thought

  893. patterns? And Lord, would we be able to

  894. replace them with the truth of what you

  895. are doing? Lord, thank

  896. you, Lord, that you're

  897. moving. Jesus, may you receive all glory

  898. and honor. Lord, would we partner in

  899. prayer with what you are doing, Lord?

  900. Would we add our fuel to the fire of

  901. your spirit? Not that you need us, but

  902. you choose to use us. So God, would we

  903. be vessels used by you in Jesus' name?

  904. Amen.

  905. you know, pretty amazing. I think uh

  906. they had 36 at alpha on on um you know,

  907. again, an old season would have told me,

  908. hey, you start up here and it kind of

  909. goes down like this to the end of the

  910. 10e program, right? Like it's actually

  911. started there and it's gone up. More

  912. people coming week two than week one.

  913. Like it is a new season. And man, can I

  914. encourage you if you're like flip? Oh, I

  915. feel a bit intimidated by it being a new

  916. season. Man, there are opportunities.

  917. Sign up. Join an alpha team. Come to

  918. Street Reach on Wednesday night. Help at

  919. Tiny Boppers. Just do you, you know,

  920. there's opportunities where we can have

  921. on-ramps that are like, "Wow, I'll just

  922. God, I don't know what to do. So, I'll

  923. just turn up on a Thursday night and

  924. move chairs and pray that that as I do

  925. for the tiny boppers group coming in

  926. that they'd be saved." You know, if

  927. you're not free Friday mornings, you

  928. know, you might be like, "Well, I can't

  929. do that, but I can actually pull or take

  930. a sign up to the alpha course to help

  931. today." Like, he's more than happy to

  932. sign you up to help. And so, you might

  933. be like, "I don't know what to do."

  934. We'll free your Thursdays. My Thursday's

  935. busy. I promise you it's not that busy.

  936. Maybe it is, but you know, I promise you

  937. there's a way through. And I just want

  938. to close by just

  939. um just giving one more opportunity. And

  940. obviously we've been talking about

  941. people coming back to Jesus. And you

  942. know during worship we sung a song about

  943. the lamb of God. And for some of us we

  944. may have been like hey I don't really

  945. know what that means. But really what

  946. that's talking about is that Jesus came

  947. and sacrificed his life for us. And so

  948. maybe even as I've been speaking about

  949. that, you were like, "Well, I haven't

  950. put my hand up yet to say I was part of

  951. th those people from 2018 because I

  952. actually haven't crossed the line yet of

  953. wanting to make a decision to give my

  954. life to Jesus." We believe that the

  955. Bible teaches that all of us were lost

  956. in our sin without Jesus and that God in

  957. his loving kindness sent Jesus to the

  958. earth to die upon a cross so that we

  959. could have forgiveness of sin. He would

  960. take our junk and he would give us his

  961. life and his love and that we really get

  962. access to that by making a decision to

  963. lay our lives down and say, "Man, I want

  964. to follow God's way." And so this

  965. morning, if you are here and you're

  966. like, "Hey, I I I've never done that.

  967. I've never given my life to Jesus." Or

  968. you're in a place where you're like,

  969. "Man, I once walked with Jesus." And

  970. again, I always say this. I'm not

  971. meaning you had a bad week. Like that

  972. doesn't mean you need to respond to

  973. this. meaning, hey, if you've walked

  974. away from Jesus and and you're no longer

  975. close to him, then this morning we I

  976. would love to say a prayer that would

  977. invite you um to give your life to him.

  978. And uh sometimes we actually uh get

  979. everyone to close their eyes for for

  980. reasons of privacy. But this morning,

  981. I'm actually just going to say, hey, if

  982. that's you, if you're here this morning

  983. and you're like, "Hey, I know I need to

  984. give my life to Jesus." Then I just

  985. encourage you just to pop up your hand

  986. if you're like, "Hey Aaron, I want you

  987. to say that prayer for me." Then if you

  988. just want to pop your hand up and say,

  989. "Yeah, I I need to be included in that

  990. prayer." Awesome. I see that hand. Is

  991. there anyone else this morning that

  992. would say, "Hey, I need to give my life

  993. to

  994. Jesus." Wow. We're going to pray and if

  995. you were if you did raise your hand or

  996. if you're like hey I should have raised

  997. my hand then you can just say this

  998. prayer in your heart as to God. Um and

  999. it's not the end of something it's the

1000. beginning of something. And so what I

1001. would encourage you is if uh if you've

1002. said that then at the front at at the

1003. end there are people who would love to

1004. pray with you and so you can uh come

1005. forward and receive prayer and if you

1006. have any other need you can come and

1007. receive prayer. So we'll just pray that

1008. uh prayer now. And so if you are giving

1009. your life back to Jesus or you're

1010. committing to him for the first time,

1011. you can say this prayer in your heart.

1012. Dear Lord Jesus, I come to

1013. you. Thank you that you died for me.

1014. Lord, I choose to stop living life my

1015. way. Lord, would you forgive me of the

1016. wrong things I've done? Lord, would you

1017. make me a new person by your spirit?

1018. Lord, help me to live life your way. I

1019. give my life to you in Jesus

1020. name. Amen. Amen. Hey, as I said, if you

1021. said that prayer this morning, we would

1022. love to pray with you. If you've got any

1023. other need, there is a prayer team on

1024. this morning. They'd love to to pray

1025. with you. Don't forget, we do have our

1026. uh new people connection area out there.

1027. We'll see many of you here at 6:00

1028. tonight for the all-in team night. As we

1029. say, uh we won't always do this, but

1030. this time it's actually open to anyone

1031. uh who wants to come along who considers

1032. uh Tonga Elim their church home. And uh

1033. apart from that, have an amazing Sunday.

  1034. God bless.
