  1. Um

  2. I'm not too sure how many people know my

  3. story of the last 10 years.

  4. Um but it's quite a remarkable one. So

  5. um first of all I just want to before I

  6. do share I just want to acknowledge um

  7. Calvin who has been my steadfast

  8. champion. So um yeah. Yeah. And um I

  9. couldn't I couldn't really share my

  10. story without um acknowledging him

  11. because it is um he is part of my story.

  12. So um as I said, I don't know how many

  13. of you know, but 10 years ago I was

  14. diagnosed with breast cancer. Um um I'm

  15. sorry the the worship has been so um

  16. profound and all of those are my

  17. testimony songs. So it's been amazing.

  18. But so 10 years ago I was diagnosed with

  19. breast cancer. Came completely out of

  20. the blue. I was on crutches with a

  21. broken ankle and um thought that it was

  22. just a muscle that was a little bit

  23. wonky being on crutches, but no, it

  24. wasn't. Um it was breast cancer. Um and

  25. uh so what transpired was a round of um

  26. many surgeries

  27. um and um it's 10 years to the week um

  28. that I started chemotherapy.

  29. I I um went through every treatment that

  30. there is. Um, I went through

  31. chemotherapy, lost all my hair. Um, lost

  32. all my hair, which was very painful. Um,

  33. I've done radiation, lots of lots of um,

  34. lots of surgeries. However, when I

  35. started on this journey, a very precious

  36. warrior gave me a word and I said to the

  37. Lord, um, I will do this journey with

  38. tenacity.

  39. If this is a journey that you want me to

  40. go on, then I will do it with tenacity.

  41. And um the diagnosis, it wasn't good. It

  42. was breast cancer. And a dear friend

  43. gave me as I went in Exodus 14:14.

    Exodus 14:14

  44. The Lord will fight for you. You only

  45. need to be still. And I have learned to

  46. Sabbath. I consider any time that I take

  47. out take a side is to Sabbath. So I

  48. started chemotherapy and it is rough as

  49. you can imagine. There were days that I

  50. couldn't open my eyelids. There were

  51. days that I could not walk. And in those

  52. days I would have warriors, prayer

  53. warriors and my children. Max surprised

  54. us coming home and it was amazing. But

  55. it's as rough. It's as rough as you can

  56. imagine it to be. And even with a strong

  57. faith, it's still really rough. There

  58. was one day that um I felt myself I was

  59. in recovery from a surgery and I felt a

  60. demonic spirit of fear come over my life

  61. and I'm not too sure if anyone has ever

  62. experienced this and it started with a

  63. cold sweat from my head and went to my

  64. toes and I knew that if I didn't respond

  65. in a spiritual way that it was it was

  66. coming after me.

  67. I knew that the only way that I could

  68. break it was to speak the name of Jesus.

  69. And I couldn't even walk. I actually had

  70. to climb up some stairs, crawl on my

  71. hands and knees to my kitchen. I knew

  72. that somehow I had to take a communion,

  73. which is something that Calvin and I

  74. regularly do in our marriage. I knew

  75. that the only way to break the spirit of

  76. fear, and it was demonic, it was cold.

  77. It was sweaty. I've never experienced

  78. anything like it. And um I managed to

  79. get a glass of water and some cracker

  80. and I sat at the dining room table and I

  81. went, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus."

  82. That's all I could do. Jesus, Jesus,

  83. Jesus. I don't know how long I sat

  84. there. That was the only thing. And

  85. until it broke, I didn't take communion.

  86. But in that moment of intimacy with the

  87. Lord, he broke it. And I took that

  88. communion. And um the power of

  89. communion, I didn't even know that we

  90. were having communion today. So um

  91. that's that's just amazing. The power of

  92. communion can break things. It can break

  93. things. So I finished chemotherapy

  94. and um then I had to go into radiation

  95. and that was um pretty pretty tough as

  96. well. And um I felt the Lord say to me,

  97. I want you to go back a verse as I'd

  98. claimed the Lord will fight for you. You

  99. just need to be still. I went back and

  100. um the verse says the Egyptians you see

  101. today you will never see again. And I

  102. took that I'm never going to see cancer

  103. again, but I've got to go through this

  104. journey. It was pretty rough. And um so

  105. I went through that and then I finished.

  106. And the Lord said, I want you to go back

  107. again. And this is what I want you to

  108. claim over your life. Exodus 14:13, do

    Exodus 14:13

  109. not be afraid. Stand firm and you will

  110. see the deliverance of the Lord. And the

  111. the deliverance the Lord will bring you

  112. today. The Egyptians you see, you will

  113. not see again. The Lord will fight your

  114. battle. You just need to be still.

  115. And then once I was clear, I felt the

  116. Lord say, "Read on." And it was, "Raise

  117. your head. Tell Is tell the Israelites

  118. to move on. Raise your staff and stretch

  119. out your hand and move." And I've

  120. claimed that for 10 years. There's been

  121. some really tough times, some dark, dark

  122. nights. And I had no words. and I could

  123. only put Calvin's hand on my forehead

  124. and he would know to pray. Those

  125. thoughts just encompassed and consumed

  126. me. So that's just a little bit of

  127. history. So um I a couple of weeks ago I

  128. have been on estrogen blockers. Um for

  129. most women they will understand what

  130. that means. Um and it's very important

  131. for you to have estrogen in your bones

  132. for calcium. So, I've gone 10 years

  133. without um with with the possibility of

  134. my calcium being leeched out of my bones

  135. and osteoporosis

  136. and um arthritis and brittle bones. So,

  137. that's one of the side effects of the

  138. treatments. So, um I've just had my

  139. 10year clearance from my surgeon and and

  140. um

  141. and oh wait, there's more to come.

  142. And um so with that was a barrage of um

  143. scans and um mamograms and ultrasounds.

  144. So they all cleared which is fantastic.

  145. But there was one more that I had to do

  146. and that's been my bone density gr scan

  147. and that's the one that I've been a

  148. little bit anxious about. So I knew that

  149. that was coming and I started to claim

  150. Ezekiel 37. Breathe life into these

  151. bones. Breathe life into these bones

  152. Lord. breathe life into these bones. I

  153. will rest in you. I will Sabbath in you.

  154. Breathe life into these bones. So, I had

  155. this um my bone scan last week, the week

  156. or the week before. And um I was very

  157. quite anxious to know what it was about.

  158. Just because you're a woman of faith

  159. doesn't mean you don't get a little bit

  160. of anxiety. So, I went in there and I

  161. said, "I guess you can't tell me what

  162. the results are." And she said, "No, but

  163. I will show you." and I sat up and she

  164. aligned my scans and there has not been

  165. one leech, not one breach of calcium

  166. from my bones.

  167. And um and and she looked at me and she

  168. said, "This is remarkable. Your bone

  169. density is above average for a woman of

  170. your age." And um and I just went,

  171. "Thank you, Jesus." And she said,

  172. "There's lots of prayer had gone into

  173. this, isn't there?" And I said, "No,

  174. there's lots of thank you, Jesus." And

  175. um so the testimony on my lips is that

  176. it doesn't matter how dark the moment

  177. is. When our eyes are fixed on Jesus, he

  178. will take care of the detail. He just

  179. wants us to be yielded to him. And um

  180. it's remarkable that my bones are as

  181. strong as they are. There is nothing

  182. that has been leeched from them. And I'm

  183. just so grateful. The desire of my heart

  184. is to see my grandchildren get married.

  185. And that's my longevity plan which the

  186. Lord has promised me.

  187. >> Wasn't that great? Okay. So good to hear

  188. the goodness of God and uh what he's uh

  189. doing in

  190. all of our lives and just his

  191. faithfulness and uh yeah we celebrate

  192. that with you Katherine. Hey

  193. also uh this morning just want to um

  194. honor my lovely wife Sarah. Uh just a

  195. huge thank you to her who last week set

  196. up all of the memorial things and while

  197. she was going through her own grieving

  198. journey of her first Christmas without

  199. um her mom was you know down here uh all

  200. of last week just preparing things for

  201. that uh moment last Sunday. So thank you

  202. so much for that Sarah. We uh appreciate

  203. you so much.

  204. Wow.

  205. Have you ever um

  206. thought about You probably haven't.

  207. Here's a question for you. Have you ever

  208. thought that some people are a little

  209. bit like Christmas trees?

  210. Like some people are a little bit

  211. prickly, right? like uh you know uh

  212. sometimes at that particular time of

  213. year some people due to drinking a

  214. little bit too much sort of topple over

  215. a little bit like a a Christmas tree.

  216. Some people are uh artificial even

  217. though they look pretty good. They're

  218. not uh they're a little bit more plastic

  219. than they are living. Um, and uh,

  220. so you know, if you see someone running

  221. around in a Christmas tree this morning,

  222. you can remember that that you know,

  223. some people only ever come out when the

  224. presents do, right? Like it's uh, and

  225. uh, you know, like Christmas trees, some

  226. people just turn up once a year. And so

  227. um, but this morning I want to talk on

  228. the Christmas story. And it's it's an

  229. interesting thing to have to do because

  230. obviously uh if you've been coming to

  231. church for any length of time, you've

  232. heard the Christmas story a fair few

  233. times, right? Like uh you've heard the

  234. story many times and you know who the

  235. characters are. And um I I like the film

  236. franchise Fast and Furious. Any Fast and

  237. Furious fans here? Wow. I see that hand.

  238. I see that hand. That's a fantastic uh

  239. revival in church. Um and one of the

  240. interesting things about the Fast and

  241. Furious franchise is when they

  242. originally wrote the script, the main

  243. character was actually supposed to be

  244. Paul Walker. He was meant to be the main

  245. character on the script. He won the

  246. leading part. But then, let me tell you

  247. something, church. What happened was a

  248. charismatic bald man came in and uh Vin

  249. Diesel due to his charisma even though

  250. he had less lines and was supposed to be

  251. THE SUPPORTING CAST MEMBER. WOW.

  252. SOMETHING HAPPENED. HIS BOLDNESS, the

  253. charisma, the greatness took over and he

  254. became the main part even though he

  255. wasn't the main part. And it's

  256. interesting when we think of the

  257. Christmas story because uh we actually

  258. tell the Christmas story through the

  259. lens of all of the people who aren't the

  260. main part because it's hard to tell the

  261. story through the lens of a baby. I

  262. mean, we realize that the Christmas

  263. story was rec recorded by men because

  264. they didn't even put the weight in,

  265. right? Like I mean, every man knows now

  266. when they go to the hospital, they get

  267. the text, they're like, "Try and

  268. remember. try and remember my wife is

  269. going to ask how big was the baby. So we

  270. clearly the writers of the gospels were

  271. males because they didn't uh actually

  272. record uh the weight of baby Jesus but

  273. we always interpret the story of Jesus

  274. through the supporting cast right it's

  275. actually through Mary through Joseph

  276. through Elizabeth through Zechariah

  277. through the uh shepherds through the

  278. magi and uh so we we have these various

  279. characters that we are interpret the

  280. story through. And for uh Mary, you

  281. know, in Luke 1, it tells us that in the

  282. end of the sixth month, the angel

  283. Gabriel was sent um to a city in Galilee

  284. to a virgin bethrown to a man whose name

  285. was Joseph. And uh the the angel comes

  286. and says, "Greetings, O favored one. The

  287. Lord is with you." And you know, we

  288. could start with that character and it's

  289. probably a character that you're

  290. familiar with that when it comes to

  291. Christmas story, if you're particularly

  292. gifted uh a particularly gifted girl,

  293. you probably play paid the part of Mary

  294. in a school production at some time. Um

  295. uh if you are unfortunate like me, you

  296. got to play the donkey. But um you know,

  297. if you were gifted, you got to play the

  298. part of Mary or maybe an angel. And we

  299. love to remember how the angel came to

  300. Mary. And then we we go on and we have

  301. uh uh Zechariah who um uh did become the

  302. father of John the Baptist. And uh you

  303. know if you ever have someone in your

  304. life that talks too much, the Christian

  305. way of telling them to shut up is to ask

  306. for the Zechariah anointing to come.

  307. Because in the temple, the angel, he

  308. asked the angel a question and the angel

  309. said, "Because of that, you're not going

  310. to be able to speak for 6 months." I

  311. used to think when Sarah was praying for

  312. encounters that she was for me that she

  313. was uh wanting God to touch me. But I

  314. wonder now if maybe she just wanted me

  315. to shut up. And so she was uh because

  316. that's what happened uh to Zechariah.

  317. and an angel turns up in the temple and

  318. he like asks the wrong questions and

  319. they're like, "Hey, now you're not going

  320. to be able to speak till the baby

  321. comes." And maybe that's something

  322. familiar in the story. Or or we read of

  323. the shepherds who were out in the field

  324. watching their flocks and that they they

  325. again have a visitation and get led and

  326. maybe slowly we're working down the

  327. skill of drama. You know, maybe you

  328. weren't Mary or Joseph. Maybe you didn't

  329. qualify for an angel and so you

  330. qualified to be a shepherd in your

  331. school production. You know, it slowly

  332. kind of goes a bit down. Uh Auntie Sue

  333. didn't even ask me to be a part of the

  334. production this year, so I didn't even

  335. get a uh not even a token roll. Um but

  336. you know we tell the story of the

  337. shepherds and kind of what happens is to

  338. keep the story fresh people always need

  339. to come up with some new angle to tell

  340. you about what was the case of shepherds

  341. in those day. or we move on to the wise

  342. men who um you know brought the gifts to

  343. Jesus and we begin to look at hey how

  344. can we reinterpret this and so we say

  345. hey you know it's commonly known that

  346. three wise men but it doesn't say three

  347. wise men there were only three gifts we

  348. we try and find a way to retell the

  349. story with something fresh and actually

  350. I believe in later manuscripts there was

  351. actually a part that was left out in

  352. some of the earlier manuscripts where

  353. they actually said to Mary and Joseph

  354. These are both birthday and Christmas

  355. presents when they uh presented them to

  356. Jesus, but uh just missed from our

  357. translations.

  358. So, these are kind of the familiar

  359. people that we tell the story of every

  360. Christmas. And given that it's every

  361. Christmas, it amazes me that there's

  362. actually two more characters at the end

  363. of the Christmas story that actually

  364. never get a mention. It's like there's

  365. only kind of about eight or 10 people

  366. and yet two of them never ever really

  367. get mentioned when we come to tell the

  368. Christmas story. You see, we often will

  369. give a shout out to Mary, to Joseph, to

  370. uh Zachchariah, to Elizabeth, to the

  371. shepherds, to the magi. Uh, and uh, but

  372. there's actually two more characters

  373. that kind of don't really get a mention.

  374. Actually, in my uh, acting days at

  375. primary school, um, they gave me the job

  376. of holding the wall. So, there was a

  377. wall and it was a blanket and me and my

  378. friend each had to hold one side of the

  379. wall. And despite it being uh Hollywood

  380. level special effects, no one

  381. acknowledged me at the end of it. I

  382. didn't get any requests for autographs

  383. even though that wall was amazing. And

  384. uh I actually remember my whole family

  385. came to watch the production. And so my

  386. brother and sister came to watch me hold

  387. a blanket. And uh if I was holding it

  388. properly, I shouldn't even be seen. It's

  389. like they're like, "Hey, what did you

  390. do?" I'm like, "Did you see that wall?

  391. How amazing." And so I I can identify

  392. with these two characters.

  393. You see, the two people that I'm talking

  394. about are Simeon and Anna. And so what

  395. happens is baby Jesus is coming to be

  396. presented for the rituals at the temple

  397. and Simeon and Anna have been waiting.

  398. You see, the the the Jewish people

  399. believed that the Messiah was going to

  400. come as a political figure, as a figure

  401. that was potentially even a military

  402. figure that was going to help set the

  403. nation of Israel free. And so when you

  404. trace the Christmas story up until this

  405. point, what actually Mary had received

  406. from pretty much everyone was like,

  407. "Hey, this child is going to be a

  408. blessing to the Jewish people." That was

  409. the predominant message that she had

  410. received so far. This one will be the

  411. hope of Israel. And so that was the

  412. message that she had received so far.

  413. And then it tells us that Simeon was an

  414. older man and he was waiting because the

  415. Holy Spirit was on him and he had been

  416. told that he would not die until he saw

  417. the Lord's anointed. And so one day, it

  418. doesn't tell us where he is, but it

  419. tells us that he is um

  420. uh we'll we'll pick it up in Luke 2:25.

    Luke 2:25

  421. It says, "Now there was a man in

  422. Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and the

  423. man was righteous and devout, waiting

  424. for the consolation of Israel, and the

  425. Holy Spirit was upon him, and it had

  426. been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit

  427. that he would not see death before he

  428. had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came

  429. in the in that spirit into the temple."

  430. And when the parents brought in the

  431. child Jesus to do for him according to

  432. the custom of the law, he took him and

  433. said blessed uh he took him and blessed

  434. God and said, "Lord, now you are letting

  435. your servant depart in peace according

  436. to your word. For my eyes have seen your

  437. salvation that you have prepared in the

  438. presence of all peoples, a light for

  439. revelation to the Gentiles and for the

  440. glory to your people Israel." So here he

  441. gets this uh persuasion by the Holy

  442. Spirit to go to the temple and Mary and

  443. Joseph give baby Jesus into his arms.

  444. And can I just say this is not parenting

  445. advice. If you have a newborn, you come

  446. out of the ward and someone says, "I'm

  447. here by the Holy Spirit. Can I hold your

  448. baby?" Say no. But um it it it did

  449. happen. In this case, it was the Holy

  450. Spirit. And Simeon takes this baby. And

  451. you got to remember for Mary and Joseph,

  452. like they had had encounter after

  453. encounter. They had angels, then they'

  454. had the meeting with uh Zechar Zechariah

  455. and Elizabeth. That had all kinds of

  456. things going on. So they knew that Jesus

  457. was going to be something special. But

  458. when he gives this proclamation, it says

  459. they were amazed. And I think the reason

  460. why they were amazed is includes this

  461. line. You have prepared in the presence

  462. of all people a light for revelation to

  463. the Gentiles.

  464. You have prepared a light for revelation

  465. to the Gentiles. You see, up until that

  466. moment, they had been expecting Jesus to

  467. be a light for the Jewish people.

  468. But you see, for them in those days,

  469. there was nothing darker that they could

  470. think of than the nations that were

  471. oppressing them, than the other nations.

  472. And so, here in the midst of this uh

  473. baby dedication,

  474. Simeon recognizes that there is one

  475. here. You see, there was a crowd of

  476. people and no one else recognized. But

  477. Simeon because of the Holy Spirit on his

  478. life, he saw something different and he

  479. makes this proclamation that here is

  480. Jesus a light of revelation to the

  481. Gentiles. Can I tell you it does not

  482. matter how dark a place

  483. you might live in. It does not matter

  484. how dark a place is that Jesus is the

  485. light of the world. And so at Christmas,

  486. he has this revelation and he's like,

  487. "Hey, there is a light." The place that

  488. we think is the DARKEST IS THE PLACE

  489. that Jesus is going to light up. He's

  490. coming to the darkest places. And can I

  491. tell you something this morning? You

  492. might have dark areas in your life.

  493. Probably most of us do. Actual areas

  494. that we're like, "Well, yeah, that's

  495. just something that I just struggle with

  496. and that's just mine." And this morning,

  497. the words of Simeon remind us that Jesus

  498. was a light of revelation to the darkest

  499. places. And he's actually quoting from

  500. Isaiah 49

  501. um a prophetic um scripture where it

  502. says, "Is it too light a thing that you

  503. should be my servant to rise up to the

  504. tribes of Jacob and to bring back the uh

  505. preserved of Israel? I will make you as

  506. a light for the nations that my

  507. salvation may reach to the ends of the

  508. earth. Do you know geographically from

  509. Jerusalem, New Zealand is the end of the

  510. earth? Like he was actually prophesying

  511. that it's going to go all the way to the

  512. end of the earth. They didn't know even

  513. how far the ends of the earth was in

  514. those days. But he was declaring that

  515. there would be a light of Jesus that

  516. would not stop. And so sometimes we need

  517. to be remembered of the simplicity that

  518. Christmas reminds us that all of the

  519. darkness in the world, every piece of

  520. darkness is to be invaded by light.

  521. Because if God had wanted to condemn the

  522. world, he would have sent a condemmer.

  523. But he didn't send a condemmer because

  524. he wanted to save the world. So he sent

  525. a savior who is the light of the world.

  526. And this morning the good news is

  527. whether you've known Jesus for 50 years

  528. or whether you're yet to know him, if

  529. you have areas of darkness in your

  530. world, there is a light that is go wants

  531. to pour into your life. And it's not

  532. just a a um impersonal light.

  533. It's actually a relationship

  534. with a living God. Isn't it amazing that

  535. he says he's like, "I'm done." He's

  536. like, "You can take me in peace now.

  537. Like, I'm happy to go home." Such was

  538. his revelation of who Christ was that

  539. even just seeing him as a baby, he was

  540. like, "Well, I'm done. you can take me

  541. home now. Like I can see what's going to

  542. happen in people's lives as a result of

  543. this baby and I'm completely done. I'm

  544. happy to go home. Take your servant in

  545. peace. What a revelation to see Jesus

  546. that way. Because the reality is when we

  547. realize just how much he is the light of

  548. the world, everything else that we're

  549. laying our lives down for all of a

  550. sudden pales into insignificance.

  551. And we can actually be like him and say,

  552. "Wow, I have seen everything I needed to

  553. see."

  554. Maybe this morning there's an area that

  555. you've been like, "Wow, not not that

  556. area. Wow, not that pride, not that

  557. self-sufficiency,

  558. not that lust, not that relationship,

  559. not that thing. Like I can let the light

  560. into certain places, but not that." And

  561. this morning, even as we consider the

  562. baby Jesus, we are reminded of this

  563. prophetic revelation from this man that

  564. everyone forgets in the Christmas story,

  565. but that uh actually Mary and Joseph

  566. were amazed by what he said because

  567. there was so much power in that

  568. revelation that Jesus is the light of

  569. the world.

  570. You'll notice that it tends to be peers

  571. of people that that that uh Dr. Luke

  572. when he is writing is sharing these

  573. peers of people and in those days things

  574. were established by two witnesses and it

  575. says um in Luke 2:36-38

    Luke 2:36–38

  576. there was a prophetess Anna the daughter

  577. of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced

  578. in years, having lived with her husband

  579. seven years from when she was a virgin

  580. and then as a widow until she was 84.

  581. She did not depart from the temple,

  582. worshiping with fasting and prayer night

  583. and day. And coming up at that very

  584. hour, she began to give thanks to God

  585. and to speak of him to all who were

  586. waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

  587. You see, there was a crowd of people in

  588. the temple. And to most people there,

  589. there was simply a ritual happening. The

  590. dedication of a baby, something special,

  591. but something every day special. Yes,

  592. how special. They're coming to present

  593. their baby. To most people, that's all

  594. that was going on. But a Anna had

  595. something different. Someone who had

  596. prayed and fasted. She was aware of the

  597. time that she was in. You see, she had

  598. the same revelation that Simeon had in

  599. of who Christ was. But here's the thing.

  600. She began to declare and speak to him of

  601. all who were there. So uh and and custom

  602. was not for females to speak in the

  603. temple at that time. But she broke

  604. custom because she was so aware of the

  605. revelation of who Jesus is. Can I tell

  606. you maybe some of us need to remember

  607. that fresh revelation of who Jesus is

  608. because she only saw Jesus as a baby and

  609. could not stop herself from telling

  610. everyone about him. She could not stop

  611. herself even though she had only all she

  612. had seen was a baby. But she began to

  613. declare and and and and maybe for some

  614. of us, we've lived in a season of

  615. feeling like, wow, people don't really

  616. want to know about Jesus. And I guess

  617. we'll just uh live within our lives and

  618. hopefully somebody might one day ask me.

  619. Kind of like that guy who who worked at

  620. a factory and he said, you know, I'm

  621. going to just um I'm just going to let

  622. my actions speak. I'm just going to show

  623. how the love of God in practical ways,

  624. but I'm just not going to mention his

  625. name. And so this guy was the best

  626. worker in the factory. He worked hard

  627. for years. And uh after years of

  628. working, finally one day a coworker came

  629. up to him and said, "Hey, there's

  630. something different about you, isn't

  631. there?" And he said, "Yes, there is."

  632. And this was his moment. Years of sewing

  633. seeds of good works, he was now ready to

  634. share. He said, "There is." The guy

  635. said, "Don't tell me. I think I know.

  636. Are you a vegetarian?"

  637. And we should let our good deed shine be

  638. for all men that they might glorify our

  639. father. People don't want to hear from

  640. someone words if it's not backed up by a

  641. lifestyle. But what Anna reminds us is

  642. when we have a true revelation of who

  643. Christ is, it should be the natural

  644. response

  645. to share who he is to others in our

  646. world.

  647. And maybe this morning, what we're

  648. needed to be reminded from these two who

  649. are so often forgotten in the Christmas

  650. story is the wonder of transformation

  651. that we're invited into for our lives

  652. to allow the light to shine. And in the

  653. wonder of transformation that we are

  654. invited to share with others because of

  655. this one who brings light to the

  656. darkness.

  657. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth,

  658. and the life."

  659. I love what McManis says. He says this.

  660. When Jesus said, "I am the way, the

  661. truth, and the life," what he was really

  662. saying was, "There is no one else coming

  663. for you."

  664. What he was really saying was there was

  665. no one else is coming for you. Jesus is

  666. the hope of the nations. 2,000 years

  667. later, we remember a baby being born.

  668. Not because it's a great story, not

  669. because it happened, but because it

  670. happens. That he still comes to life.

  671. The light of the world stepped into the

  672. world and his light is still uh shone

  673. upon human hearts of frailty.

  674. And maybe this morning if you are

  675. comfortable, close your eyes. And if

  676. you're not comfortable, you're going to

  677. be the only one looking around. So

  678. probably close your eyes and be

  679. comfortable with it.

  680. Maybe you're here and you've been

  681. following Jesus for a long time

  682. and there's that area in your life

  683. that you don't actually believe

  684. he can set you free from or you can open

  685. up to him.

  686. And if you if that's you this morning, I

  687. want to remind you of the reality that

  688. he is the light of the world and the

  689. light shines brightest in every dark

  690. area.

  691. So Lord, this morning

  692. we open our hearts aresh to you, light

  693. of the world.

  694. Lord, if there are things we've been

  695. struggling with and we've believed a lie

  696. that it is just our lot in life to

  697. struggle with those things,

  698. Lord, we invite your light in this

  699. morning

  700. to set us free.

  701. And Lord, for those of us who have maybe

  702. lost the wonder

  703. of the light of Christmas,

  704. Lord, if we've

  705. maybe had people tell us they're not

  706. interested and it's made us maybe sh

  707. back. Lord, I pray there would be fresh

  708. faith this morning to be like Anna,

  709. Lord, to be one who would declare how

  710. good this light of the world is to those

  711. we come into contact with. Not to need

  712. to preach sermons, but to share the

  713. reality of the light of the world who

  714. transforms everyone.

  715. And Lord, this morning I bless each

  716. person here in the mighty name of Jesus

  717. to know your grace, your power, and your

  718. goodness. And uh even I'm just going to

  719. invite the music team to come. And I

  720. actually felt this morning like we were

  721. supposed to finish with a praise song

  722. and that we uh that our response was

  723. actually going to be uh that first

  724. praise song where the spirit of the Lord

  725. is there is freedom and uh that maybe

  726. this morning uh even as you begin to

  727. think about that thing that you've just

  728. given to the Lord and you wonder why

  729. will I be able to walk with you in it

  730. this time Lord that area of darkness

  731. that you would declare that there is

  732. freedom and maybe this morning. You're

  733. thinking about those situations where

  734. you need courage to share who Jesus is.

  735. That this morning, even as we declare

  736. this over our lives, that there would be

  737. a fresh release of courage and freedom

  738. in the mighty name of Jesus. Awesome.

  739. Let's go.
