  1. Awesome.

  2. You can

  3. grab a seat. I uh the other day I saw um

  4. something that said uh I

  5. decided to run a social experiment and

  6. put my son in a Manchester United shirt

  7. for a week to see what would happen. And

  8. uh so far he's been bitten, teased, and

  9. kicked. and I'm really wondering what's

  10. going to happen when he leaves the

  11. house. And so, uh, that one's for Pastor

  12. Trevor, uh, who is a Manchester United

  13. fan. Um, but good morning. Welcome. Hey,

  14. it's great to, uh, have you with us and

  15. to gather in the name of Jesus. And uh

  16. hey, in just a couple of weeks, we will

  17. actually be having uh moving to two

  18. Sunday morning services where one will

  19. be at 9 and one will be at 11:15

  20. a.m. And some people are excited. Um and

  21. that's good. Um and so I think it's it's

  22. it's going to be so uh amazing to see

  23. what God does. And when I think about

  24. that, I think of kind of the three ways

  25. that we're making room. And we'll be

  26. making room for some more people, which

  27. will be amazing for them to encounter

  28. Jesus. We'll also uh be able to push the

  29. chairs back a little bit. So, we

  30. actually be making room for a bigger

  31. altar. So, that's good. We're not just

  32. believing that, wow, we'll all of a

  33. sudden become some slick streamline

  34. service. No, that actually we'll make

  35. space for even more of the spirit moving

  36. in our midst. And then we're also going

  37. to have a less packed street which

  38. actually means we'll be able to connect

  39. and see one another better and it won't

  40. be quite so full in there and it will

  41. just enable that opportunity for us to

  42. connect together. So we're really

  43. looking forward to everything that God

  44. is going to do through that. Can I also

  45. encourage uh you uh add my encouragement

  46. to Jess's Lent is starting with 72 hours

  47. of prayer. You can sign up for a oneh

  48. hour slot to pray in our prayer room if

  49. you're like what does that look like? We

  50. we set up the station. So there is uh

  51. aids to help you pray into certain areas

  52. if that's what you want to do or you can

  53. just come and take the hour by yourself.

  54. You can come some with someone if you

  55. want to, but you can also totally just

  56. book that time in and come by yourself.

  57. And uh I must say much to surprise

  58. there's still a 400 a.m. slot available.

  59. So if anyone is uh keen for that, you

  60. can uh avail yourself of a 400 a.m.

  61. prayer time. Um but it would be awesome.

  62. You know, my heart is that we would see

  63. um just everyone sign up and come and

  64. pray like that. We would uh you know uh

  65. Tyler Sten says we uh learn to pray by

  66. praying. And sometimes um you know it's

  67. like well what are the steps? What are

  68. the Well, the best step to pray is go

  69. shut yourself in a room for an hour and

  70. every time your mind wanders, just bring

  71. it back to Jesus and start to pray

  72. again. And we learn to pray. But you

  73. will have noticed when you came in uh on

  74. your seat was a lifeg group signup

  75. sheet. And one of the things when I

  76. share is that um intentionally I hope

  77. when I share that most of the time you

  78. don't actually know where I'm going.

  79. Some of the time I know where I'm going,

  80. but hopefully most of the time I kind of

  81. part of my aim is that you actually

  82. don't know whereabouts is the message

  83. going. But of course, this week we kind

  84. of put a piece of paper on your seat

  85. which gives you a bit of a blueprint of

  86. where the message is going. And this

  87. week is what we call sign up Sunday for

  88. our small groups. And so my hope at the

  89. end of this uh time is that there'll be

  90. some people who have never been to a

  91. small group before that will be like,

  92. "Man, I'm going to sign up for a life

  93. group." That there'll be some people who

  94. are like, "Man, I've done that before

  95. and thought I was over it, but maybe I

  96. need to re-engage." That there'll be

  97. some people who are like, "Man, I was

  98. wondering if I should keep going to my

  99. small group." And my hope is that uh

  100. through that that we all um decide wow

  101. you know this is something that could be

  102. of value to our lives. But the vision is

  103. not to simply run small groups. And can

  104. we have that first scripture up please

  105. in second Corinthians? It tells us that

  106. we are to be transformed

  107. into the image of Christ. that the Lord

  108. is working in our lives through a whole

  109. lot of different ways to transform us

  110. into the image of Christ. And so even as

  111. we talk as a church about small groups,

  112. our desire is not that you go to a small

  113. group, our desire is that you become

  114. more like Jesus.

  115. >> And uh is it simply that you go to a

  116. small group and all of a sudden you're

  117. exactly like Jesus? No. But relationship

  118. and relating to one another is one of

  119. the ways that we become more like Jesus.

  120. >> You see, we are transformed in our

  121. relationship with the Lord. As we spend

  122. time with him, time in his word, uh you

  123. know, as we practice spiritual

  124. disciplines, we are transformed into the

  125. image of Christ. But here's the reality.

  126. We are also transformed into the image

  127. of Christ as we live in relationship

  128. with one another.

  129. See, we are transformed through both

  130. spiritual disciplines and our connection

  131. to Christ and also our connection to

  132. Christ through one another. And so the

  133. reason why we take a week aside to have

  134. sign up Sunday twice a year is that we

  135. say, "Hey, we believe that we are

  136. actually called into relationships that

  137. help us become more like Jesus."

  138. And so in the scriptures, you'll find uh

  139. the next scripture, Jesus had uh

  140. different groups of people that he

  141. interacted with. He had the three um

  142. that were his close three and he would

  143. often uh just pull aside with just those

  144. three. And all of us in our lives need a

  145. small number of people that can speak

  146. very deeply into our world. And uh

  147. sometimes it's really important to

  148. define those relationships. I actually

  149. went out with someone uh last year who I

  150. was um asking if they would speak into

  151. my life in a greater measure. And I was

  152. like, "Yeah, I really want you to do

  153. this." and they said, "Yeah, I see it

  154. more like a friend. I see it's like a

  155. friendship." And I'm like, "No, I don't

  156. want a friendship. I need someone that

  157. can speak into my life." And and and and

  158. so Jesus had this three. And then we see

  159. that Jesus also had the 72. And uh the

  160. 72 even though they were a a wider group

  161. and a collective group, they actually

  162. went still went out two by two. So they

  163. would grow go out in groups of two.

  164. Pastor Trevor taught us that on the Fiji

  165. mission trip. I remember being in a

  166. hospital uh next to Clinton and uh I was

  167. pretty pleased that we were two by two

  168. because Clinton said to the person in

  169. the hospital, "What can I pray for you

  170. for?" And the guy said, "I'm crazy." And

  171. actually did the hand signal in case we

  172. didn't get the English. And uh Clinton

  173. prayed with his eyes open um as we were

  174. two by two. But this So Jesus had the 72

  175. and then he also had the 12 disciples.

  176. And we can see in the scriptures that he

  177. pulled aside with the 12. And there were

  178. times where he actually just called the

  179. 12 to himself. Now I want to be very

  180. clear because the Bible is really

  181. important to us. It's the word of God. I

  182. am not saying that um our life groups

  183. are the 12 disciples like we're not um

  184. saying that this is exactly the same

  185. thing. But what we are saying is when we

  186. look at the life of Jesus, we can see

  187. that he had different sized groups. And

  188. if he is our model, there was clearly

  189. something in this that he would have

  190. different size groups that he would pull

  191. together.

  192. >> What's interesting when you look at the

  193. disciples, if you've ever been to a life

  194. group and you've thought, flip, I don't

  195. know if I really fit here, and if you've

  196. even thought, I I know no one else ever

  197. would have thought this, but I don't

  198. know if I actually like all these

  199. people.

  200. like,

  201. you know, in those other churches you've

  202. been to, not the life groups here. It's

  203. really interesting when Jesus came to

  204. choose his 12 because he actually didn't

  205. go and find a best friend circle and

  206. say, "Hey, there's 12 best friends. I'm

  207. going to pull them all together." It's

  208. actually really interesting when you

  209. look at the makeup of his group. He had

  210. Matthew, who was a tax collector, and

  211. Simon, who was a zealot, in the same

  212. group. Now, what a zealot was was they

  213. were people that were trying to covertly

  214. overthrow the Roman Empire. And so, uh,

  215. some of that sect would actually, um,

  216. like kill officials within the Roman

  217. Empire. Matthew as a tax collector was

  218. an official within the Roman Empire.

  219. Like, that's an interesting life group

  220. when you say, "What have you been doing

  221. at work this week?" Well, I've been

  222. collect collecting tax for Rome. Oh,

  223. I've been trying to kill tax collectors.

  224. Like that's an awkward moment at life

  225. group right there.

  226. I don't know if I really fit.

  227. See, Jesus didn't necessarily grab 12

  228. people together where it was like, "Wow,

  229. this is the most comfortable group of

  230. people possible that I'm going to

  231. assemble." He actually grabbed a group,

  232. a cross mixture of tax collectors and

  233. fishermans and treasurers and a thief

  234. and all of these people together and was

  235. like, "Hey, let's journey together."

  236. And you know, we have words in Christian

  237. culture like, "We do life together."

  238. And um that's really good. I just think

  239. we don't realize how messy that is. Like

  240. we do life together. like, yeah, we do

  241. life together. That's actually an

  242. invitation into a little bit of mess.

  243. >> And so we run these small groups and we

  244. don't believe this is the entirety that

  245. this is the only way you grow in God.

  246. But we do believe within our cultural

  247. moment, this is one powerful moment of

  248. how we can set aside the intentional

  249. practice of walking together with other

  250. believers to become more like Christ.

  251. And is it like an for all time this is

  252. the only way to do it? No. But we do

  253. believe there are biblical principles

  254. that are met and and ways of fellowship

  255. that can happen. Like there are things

  256. that will happen in a small group that

  257. won't happen in an auditorium like this.

  258. And then there are things that will

  259. happen in a group of 12 that won't

  260. happen in a group of three. And so

  261. there's just this growing in Christ that

  262. we have. So historically, you know, the

  263. purpose of a life group is to study the

  264. Bible. And we do believe that's 100%

  265. important to come together. We're not

  266. just coming together to discuss the

  267. weather or to talk about um

  268. >> the warriors or whatever else. We're

  269. actually coming together to open the

  270. scriptures, to encourage one another, to

  271. come around the word word and see what

  272. it says to us. But at the same time, we

  273. realize that's not the entirety of what

  274. we're trying to do. We're trying to do

  275. that in the context of relationship

  276. where we love one another. You see, the

  277. goal is not simply to know more. The

  278. goal is to love more.

  279. That the Christian maturity is not just

  280. measured in what we know. And sometimes

  281. we do need to know more. We believe in

  282. knowing the word, that we need to read

  283. the Bible, that we need that. But we

  284. also believe that that purpose of that

  285. is that we become people of love and we

  286. learn to love one another more. I

  287. remember talking to uh a friend of mine

  288. and asking him for some advice a number

  289. of years ago. I was journeying with a

  290. particular person and I was spending

  291. time with them and um you know I said to

  292. uh my mentor I was like hey I'm spending

  293. this time and I'm just not seeing really

  294. the change in their life that I'd love

  295. to see and uh you know I kind of just

  296. wonder it doesn't really feel like it's

  297. going anywhere doesn't really feel like

  298. it's doing much and um I remember being

  299. so challenged because my mentor said to

  300. me are you the kind of person that's

  301. only going to love when you can see the

  302. right level of change in the other

  303. person.

  304. Or are you a person of love that

  305. actually you're going to continue to

  306. love even if it doesn't result in the

  307. 100% outcome that you want. You see,

  308. sometimes what we need to do is learn to

  309. grow in love. And sometimes that looks

  310. like not always having everything run

  311. exactly how we want, but we actually

  312. relationally journey with people. And

  313. even when there's differences and

  314. differences of opinion, we continue to

  315. love well.

  316. >> See, we've been talking about Lent and

  317. the season of self-denial that we're

  318. coming into. And I believe practices of

  319. self-denial are so so important. But the

  320. interesting thing about practices of

  321. self-denial is sometimes subtly the

  322. focus can still be on self like I'm

  323. denying this thing. This is me denying

  324. it. And I do believe we we should have

  325. that as a practice.

  326. But you know one of the best ways to

  327. practice self-denial

  328. is to commit to loving a group of

  329. people.

  330. >> Like you can spend all your time

  331. wondering how do I deny myself? I'll

  332. deny myself this. I'll deny myself that.

  333. But I can promise you if you get into a

  334. group and decide, I'm not just here just

  335. to have a conversation, but I'm actually

  336. here to love. Well, do you know you'll

  337. find yourself invited into self-denial?

  338. >> Like the next morning in your prayer

  339. time, you're like busy praying. You got

  340. all the things you want to pray for and

  341. then you remember, oh, that person at

  342. Lifeg Group. Wow, I need to just deny my

  343. prayer lists and begin to bring them

  344. before. Wow, I was home and I was

  345. rushing to cook the meal for my family

  346. and then I remember, wow, I've got to

  347. actually cook a meal for that person in

  348. my life group who's sick. And so all of

  349. a sudden, we actually find in the

  350. process of uh loving others

  351. intentionally,

  352. if it's true biblical love, it actually

  353. requires me to deny myself. And that's

  354. why in Philippians 2, it actually says

  355. it talks about Jesus and us imitating

  356. Jesus. But what's interesting is it says

  357. starts by saying in your relationships

  358. with one another have the same attitude

  359. as Christ Jesus. And then it goes on to

  360. talk about him dying on the cross. You

  361. see, so part of self-denial is actually

  362. achieved when we realize I want to love

  363. like Jesus loved. And part of the denial

  364. actually means I don't have to focus on

  365. all of these things I have to deny. I

  366. just need to get around people with the

  367. intention of loving them and straight

  368. away it's actually going to cause

  369. self-denial.

  370. >> But if we don't realize that's what's

  371. actually being caused, we'll see it as

  372. inconvenience and we'll think, "Flip,

  373. who wants to go to a life group?

  374. I thought I was turning up to do a Bible

  375. study and now I'm cooking a meal for

  376. someone."

  377. And if we don't realize that actually

  378. there is a greater purpose of what Jesus

  379. is trying to do in our midst to develop

  380. us into a loving people, we sometimes

  381. will actually despise the very mechanism

  382. that he is using. The reason why it

  383. feels uncomfortable is that we are being

  384. encouraged to grow in love.

  385. >> We do life together.

  386. That's messy.

  387. I mean, we believe that we should pursue

  388. Jesus in a way that his grace works in

  389. our life and that we walk out holiness.

  390. Like we do actually believe we should be

  391. transformed to become more like Christ.

  392. That we actually should be growing more

  393. and more like him. That we should be

  394. turning away from sin. that that as the

  395. people of God in our relationship with

  396. Jesus we realize we can't do it on our

  397. own but through the Holy Spirit through

  398. the encouragement of others we should be

  399. becoming more like Christ

  400. but at the same time I can tell you if

  401. you are going to be around people and

  402. love them it will be incredibly messy

  403. it's a little bit like the guy who was

  404. on a deserted island and uh he'd been

  405. stranded for two years and finally they

  406. came and they picked him up. They found

  407. him and the and the guy who rescued

  408. him's like, "Wow, you know, get on

  409. board. You're free." And as they're

  410. going away, there's three shacks in a

  411. row. And the guy turns and he says,

  412. "Well, what are the three shacks?" He

  413. says, "Well, the first shack is my

  414. house." And he says, "Well, that makes

  415. sense." He says, "What's the second

  416. shack?" He says, "Well, the second shack

  417. was my church." He says, "Well, that

  418. makes sense." He's like, "What's the

  419. third shack?" The third shack was the

  420. church I used to go to.

  421. And the idea being man if there are

  422. going to be people around us there is

  423. going to be mess

  424. >> there like we should do our best to not

  425. have it we should never just excuse

  426. things but at the same time it is the

  427. reality of the kingdom and it's actually

  428. part of the love that we're invited to

  429. display not to have perfectly clean

  430. groups but to have groups that are

  431. trying to be more like Jesus that love

  432. one another in the midst of our journey

  433. as we go.

  434. >> As a pastor, people say things like to

  435. you like, "We need to get back to the

  436. early church." And I agree. Like, you

  437. can see some amazing things that the

  438. early church done. I often think they're

  439. reading through rose tinted glasses,

  440. though. I'm like, "Well, what parts of

  441. the early church do you want to get back

  442. to?" Like, do you want to get back to

  443. the part where they had to have uh call

  444. and find people that were full enough of

  445. the spirit so that food would no longer

  446. be distributed along racial lines

  447. like in the New Testament church or an

  448. apostolic leader like Peter that's

  449. acting one way in front of people uh

  450. when certain people are around and then

  451. acts different when other people are

  452. around. And people are like, "Man, we

  453. need to get back to the early church."

  454. I'm like, "Yes, I agree. We do need to

  455. get back to the early church. But if you

  456. think you can say, "Let's get back to

  457. the early church." And it means that we

  458. no longer need to be around broken

  459. people, that's not what it means. It

  460. does not mean, "Wow, all of a sudden, we

  461. have this perfect community where

  462. everything's just lovely and and there's

  463. no mess." No. Getting back to the early

  464. church means we pursue Jesus. We pursue

  465. the word. We pursue the spirit. and we

  466. pursue relationship in the midst of all

  467. the messiness.

  468. >> Now, it goes without saying, but I know

  469. we're in a cultural moment where there

  470. are have been real um hurts and abuses

  471. in the church. And so, when I say we

  472. need to be around each other and mess,

  473. we're not talking about capital T

  474. traumas. We're not talking about being

  475. around abusers and that kind of thing.

  476. What we are saying is that if we are to

  477. love one another, well, we actually need

  478. to understand that that's not going to

  479. be comfortable. It's not an invitation

  480. just into a comfortable, but it's

  481. actually an invitation to love well in

  482. the midst of mess.

  483. And so,

  484. in just a moment, we are going to have

  485. an opportunity to sign up for life

  486. groups. And I guess what I would

  487. encourage everyone is if you are part of

  488. a life group, man, my encouragement

  489. would be what would it look like to

  490. approach it as this is a group where I

  491. am striving to become more like Jesus

  492. through iron sharpens iron and through

  493. loving well.

  494. >> It's a radically different change. If

  495. you're at home thinking, I need to go to

  496. group. Yes, I want to have conversations

  497. and be shaped by the word, but I

  498. actually want to live it out that people

  499. would be loved well by me. God, could

  500. you help me with that?

  501. >> You know, and all of a sudden it's it

  502. changes the attitude. It's like, well,

  503. all of a sudden it's like, I'm not going

  504. to stop going because that person

  505. overshares and they won't shut up. It's

  506. like,

  507. >> come on.

  508. >> What would it look like to love that

  509. person? so well to where they actually

  510. felt known

  511. >> and they didn't need to overshare

  512. because they were no longer insecure

  513. because they felt like they had been

  514. embraced by a community of people who

  515. loved them just as they are. What if

  516. rather than like that's a frustration

  517. and a stench to me. It was actually like

  518. that's an invitation to push past and

  519. love well in the midst of it. And don't

  520. worry, we do coach our life group

  521. leaders on how to redirect people who

  522. talk a little bit too much. But anyway,

  523. that's okay.

  524. You know, John Mark says this, "If we're

  525. too busy to follow Jesus, then we're too

  526. busy."

  527. >> And

  528. I honestly believe that in some way,

  529. it's not just life groups, but if you

  530. are going to follow Jesus, you need some

  531. form of relational group that you are

  532. journeying with. You don't want to call

  533. it a life group. Call it whatever you

  534. want. But you need people in your world

  535. that you are journeying with. And can I

  536. say in love, if we are too busy for

  537. that, then we're too busy to follow

  538. Jesus.

  539. Because if the son of God had his 12 in

  540. the midst of coming to reconcile God to

  541. man, I promise you, you can fit

  542. relational journey into your schedule.

  543. like three and a half years of ministry,

  544. everything that Jesus accomplished and

  545. in the midst of it, he was present and

  546. with a small group. Can I suggest that

  547. for any of us here, if we're actually

  548. like, man, no, I just don't have time,

  549. then we actually need to relook at our

  550. schedules. And I say that in love, not

  551. because we want to have so many groups,

  552. but because we want to see people

  553. transformed into the image of Jesus.

  554. That we actually need to push past that

  555. which is comfortable. And sometimes

  556. realize that that which is uncomfortable

  557. is actually an invitation to love well,

  558. that we would

  559. become more like Christ.

  560. Loving one another is messy. Having a

  561. group of people that I'm committed to

  562. loving is actually really hard because

  563. it's really easy to love the church.

  564. Like, oh, I love all of you guys because

  565. that that's really easy. Like it's it's

  566. nice and comfortable. I love you by

  567. sharing the word on a Sunday morning.

  568. And that kind of love does not cause me

  569. to have to bump into you and you feel my

  570. prickles and I feel yours. But there is

  571. something different when it's actually

  572. like now love actually looks like a

  573. particular group of people.

  574. >> And maybe they're not everyone I would

  575. have chosen.

  576. >> I mean, you can imagine

  577. Matthew going, "Why on earth is there a

  578. zealot in our group? Aren't those guys

  579. killing people?"

  580. and Simon going, "Why on earth is there

  581. a tax collector in our group? Aren't

  582. they exploiting people?" And somehow in

  583. the midst of it, Jesus calls a group of

  584. imperfect people together and says, "I

  585. want to put my spirit in you, on you,

  586. through you, let's encourage one

  587. another, build one another up, and go

  588. and change the world."

  589. >> And that is his heart. And so in just a

  590. moment um I'm going to pray and then uh

  591. the lifeg group leaders are going to pop

  592. out after that and uh they're going to

  593. be at barrels out in the foyer. Sarah's

  594. going to come and give us some

  595. instructions and and we're going to have

  596. the opportunity where you can sign up to

  597. a life group. And um you know we do also

  598. say I do get hey not every group will

  599. actually work for every person. You may

  600. end up going to a group and go actually

  601. no this isn't the group of people I'm

  602. called to love. Um, and that's okay.

  603. It's a life group, not a life sentence.

  604. But, um, there can be a fine line

  605. sometimes between a long life group and

  606. a hostage situation. But anyway, um

  607. you can uh

  608. but I want to challenge you, you know,

  609. if you've been

  610. following Jesus for a long time,

  611. there's possibly the mindset of like,

  612. well, actually, I don't know if I really

  613. need that anymore because, you know,

  614. I've possibly been through a similar

  615. Bible study to what they're discing.

  616. blessing or I don't know if I need that

  617. information. Can I tell you I think we

  618. can all continue to grow in our

  619. knowledge of the Lord. But bigger than

  620. that, even if there's some information

  621. that's on repeat, can I tell you I'm

  622. sure there's someone that you need to

  623. love? Can I tell you, I'm sure there's

  624. someone that the spirit of God wants to

  625. put something in your life that you

  626. would reach out and love and that man

  627. actually what you might find is the

  628. crazy thing I think you find is when you

  629. go with an idea of loving people well

  630. you actually get so much out of the

  631. discussion you get so much you find you

  632. learn so much you actually when that

  633. heart changes you know if you turn up

  634. for the study you kind of often actually

  635. end up going I don't know if that was

  636. really deep enough what I found is when

  637. you turn up to love people well, you end

  638. up with both. You actually learn and you

  639. grow and you see transformation. Jesus,

  640. thank you Lord that you

  641. want to transform us into your image.

  642. And Lord, I pray that

  643. uh we would be open

  644. to being in relationship with the people

  645. that you're calling us to be in

  646. relationship to loving well those who

  647. you are calling us to love. And Lord, I

  648. bless each of our life groups. Lord, I

  649. pray they would be places of biblical

  650. truth. Lord, there will be places of

  651. robust discussion and uh just um iron

  652. sharpening iron. And Lord, in the midst

  653. of that though, there would be places of

  654. great love where people would come to

  655. love and be loved, to know and be known,

  656. Lord, where people would journey

  657. together through all the ups and downs,

  658. the messes, the awkwardness, and Lord,

  659. somehow in the midst of committing to

  660. loving other people well. We would find

  661. ourselves in a self-denial story where

  662. we would take on the attitude of Jesus

  663. who did not consider himself but humbled

  664. himself. And God, I pray that that would

  665. be true for each one of us and it will

  666. be true for the groups in our church in

  667. Jesus' mighty name. Amen. Amen. Awesome.

  668. What's going to happen now is I'm going

  669. to invite the life group leaders can go

  670. out to their uh sign up posts and uh

  671. Pastor Sarah's going to come and give us

  672. uh a little bit of an overview of how

  673. the next little bit's going to work.

  674. >> Amazing. What a great message, huh? So,

  675. so good. Um yeah, so Aaron has explained

  676. the why behind life groups. I'm here to

  677. talk about the where, what, when, how

  678. it's all happening. So um we have

  679. amazing life group leaders. I'm so

  680. grateful to each one of them. They are

  681. running incredible life groups, but um

  682. we've got those slides up here. So here

  683. are I'm just quickly going to go through

  684. our life groups. Um these groups are

  685. more connect groups. They're based

  686. around an interest or activity. So,

  687. we've got Francis and Jerry running a

  688. family group on Sundays. That's um

  689. that's around food and fun and um it's

  690. always great. Amy is running Creative

  691. Connect. Up to now, it's been Crochet

  692. Connect. She has changed it to Creative

  693. Connect. Looking um Yeah, just just for

  694. those creative people who want to um get

  695. into that. Malcolm's got table tennis

  696. who likes to be competitive. Yes. And um

  697. Ann is doing a flax weaving connect. Um

  698. she did some flax weaving for a ladies

  699. event last year and she's going to

  700. continue that on. So that is quite

  701. exciting. Next slide. All right. Oxygen.

  702. I believe your life groups have gone

  703. from two to four this year. Is that

  704. right? That is awesome. And I understand

  705. that the boys one is meeting in my

  706. lounge on Tuesday. That'll be fun. Um

  707. Jess has got a young adults. Uh Lucian

  708. is continuing on with 60 plus. They do

  709. awesome. And a new one this year is Emma

  710. and Robert are running Youth Parents

  711. Connect. So you can drop your youth here

  712. on Friday nights. Hang at their house

  713. for a little bit and then pick your

  714. youth up. How good is that? Okay, these

  715. are our Bible study life groups. So we

  716. have Hannah in the Lakes with ladies

  717. ages 25 to 45. We have a new group with

  718. Sue for single inspired ladies connect

  719. silk. How good is that? We have Aaron

  720. and Lucian continuing on a midweek

  721. daytime group and Eley is starting a

  722. shift workers group. So we can't tell

  723. you the time and venue for that. It

  724. changes every time, but he will have a

  725. WhatsApp group up for you. How good is

  726. that? Next slide.

  727. It's coming. It's coming.

  728. >> No, there's more. Um, these are life

  729. groups in our suburbs. We have Papamoa,

  730. Mata, Bethlehem, and another Bethlehem.

  731. And the next slide, Madam Mattera,

  732. Lakespar, and our business focus group

  733. for business owners to um come and

  734. connect together. And lastly, um I have

  735. three groups that I've got on my heart

  736. that I believe God wants to start up

  737. this year, but we just don't have

  738. leaders or hosts for them yet. So, I'm

  739. putting it out there. I will be out

  740. here. If it's something that you've got

  741. on your heart, we have Omokuroa Tapuna

  742. who lives out north of Todonga. That's a

  743. great place. There's quite a few people

  744. out there. Um, Welcome Bay and

  745. Mangatapu. We'd love to set up a life

  746. group in that area. And the other one

  747. that we've had interest in is young

  748. families. So, this is when the men all

  749. come together and meet one week and then

  750. the women get together the next week

  751. while the men are looking after the

  752. children and then perhaps once a month

  753. everyone gets together for a shared meal

  754. or something. Does that sound good?

  755. Awesome. So, our lifeg group leaders are

  756. keen and ready to meet you. So,

  757. basically from this side of the street

  758. this way, all the lifeg group leaders

  759. are ready. They've got sign up forms

  760. where you can um sign up today and then

  761. during next week they'll get in contact

  762. with you with um the details of their

  763. groups. Um

  764. also, if you've already signed up to a

  765. life group, you can go out there and

  766. say, "Hey, put me down again because

  767. there is a baking treat out there."

  768. Thank you to E and um Ally who have done

  769. some baking for me. So there's a yummy

  770. treat. Um but yeah, just go out, talk to

  771. the life group leaders, ask them any

  772. questions that you have and um it's

  773. going to be good. Does that sound good?

  774. Let me bless you.

  775. Lord Jesus, I thank you for this great

  776. church.

  777. I thank you that we can live in

  778. community, that we can come and be part

  779. of a small group, that we can encourage

  780. each other, that we can love on each

  781. other.

  782. And particularly this week, Lord Jesus,

  783. as we start this Lenton journey,

  784. Lord, would you be so close to us? Would

  785. you speak to us? Would you be with us?

  786. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
