  1. It's great. We uh Yeah, perfect.

  2. We've just uh had 72 hours of prayer. Uh

  3. anyone go to the prayer room? How good

  4. was that? Wasn't that an awesome? And uh

  5. uh Sarah did an amazing job just

  6. preparing that area. Um she although she

  7. did need my help um at one point because

  8. um she said to me um there's a wasp in

  9. the prayer room. And I said, "What do

  10. you mean?" And she said, "Well, someone

  11. was obviously clever enough to capture

  12. the wasp, but then they wrote on top of

  13. the cup, be careful. There is a wasp

  14. under this cup as they had caught it."

  15. and she said, "Um, I'm um too scared to

  16. lift the" And so I was on later that day

  17. and I realized there might have been

  18. prayer warriors in the house, but no one

  19. was going to lift the cup. Like, you

  20. know, I was like, man, uh causing demons

  21. to flee, but scared of a wasp

  22. apparently. And so I um got up there and

  23. thankfully uh there was uh Eley and

  24. Sunny G who um were looked like men

  25. equipped for the job. And I said, "Hey,

  26. is there a wasp under there?" And Aussie

  27. said, "I think it might be a trick to

  28. see who lifts the cup." And I was like,

  29. "Okay." Well, I'm like, "Well, who's

  30. going to do it?" And he's like, "So, he

  31. lifted it and there was a dead wasp

  32. under the cup." So, um Oh. Oh, I didn't

  33. realize that would be a sad moment. Some

  34. some of you like wasps more than me. I

  35. thought that was a moment of rejoicing,

  36. but um apparently not. Um please don't

  37. call uh SPCA. It's okay.

  38. I'm really surprised that some people

  39. gave an awe for a wasp. Man,

  40. I hate wasps. Anyway, uh next week uh as

  41. uh Paul said, we will be uh two service

  42. times, 9 and 11:15.

  43. And uh part of the reason uh why we did

  44. 9 and 11:15 is um we really want the

  45. freedom that we have like uh we we we

  46. don't want to uh radically change who we

  47. are in the name of going to two

  48. services. we actually believe God's um

  49. doing something in our midst and we want

  50. that to continue but we realize that

  51. going to to so so some people were like

  52. well why is it 9 and 11:15 and one of

  53. the reasons why it's good that it's 9

  54. and 11:15 is it actually forces everyone

  55. to choose a new service time cuz if we

  56. did one at 10:30 everyone would just go

  57. oh I'll just come to that cuz that's

  58. really uh convenient so this this will

  59. actually mean uh you know it'll be a new

  60. service time for everyone and uh we're

  61. really excited about what God is doing.

  62. But we have been in uh we've just

  63. started a season of Lent. And I'm not

  64. going to ask you to cheer for that

  65. because uh Lent is a season of prayer

  66. and fasting and it is a rich time, but

  67. it can also be a challenging time. And I

  68. remember uh you'll see the picture

  69. behind me. Uh I mean, it's a great thing

  70. when you're believing for church growth.

  71. you start talking about a wilderness

  72. like that's a that that's a a

  73. crowdleaser right there. But this

  74. morning we're going to start our our

  75. Lent series uh called the wilderness

  76. which is going to look at Jesus' journey

  77. in Luke chapter 4. And uh Sarah and I um

    Luke 4 chapter mention

  78. uh moved to Alexandra

  79. uh in what year? I can't even think 2014

  80. something like that. Um down to

  81. Alexandria. And the thing about

  82. Alexandra is it the hills around

  83. Alexandra look pretty similar to that

  84. photo. It's actually almost like as

  85. close to a desert type climate as you

  86. can get in New Zealand. It is uh the

  87. hottest part of New Zealand in summer.

  88. It is the coldest part of New Zealand in

  89. winter, but it's actually the driest

  90. year round. And so, um, we would have

  91. this dry, um, uh, uh, culture and around

  92. the around the hills there would just

  93. be, uh, just total barrenness. And one

  94. time we had, uh, a guest speaker come

  95. and he was like, uh, afterwards I was

  96. chatting with him and he's like, "Yeah,

  97. you know, um, I understand the Lord's

  98. called you to a dry place and, you know,

  99. I realize that this place is dry." And I

  100. was like, "That's not very encouraging."

  101. And he was like, you know, but I just

  102. think if you can keep pursuing and you

  103. can keep and um I was kind of like, oh,

  104. I don't actually see what you're seeing.

  105. You see, we can say the words wilderness

  106. and it can produce certain thoughts in

  107. our mind. But it is actually just like

  108. God to choose places where we think

  109. things die to actually bring new life,

  110. to bring fresh joy, to bring all kinds

  111. of things that we need. And so, uh, as

  112. we talk about the wilderness, it will be

  113. a challenging season. Yes. But it's also

  114. an invitation of heaven into what God

  115. wants to do in our lives.

  116. >> And so, uh, we're going to be talking

  117. about, uh, Jesus' journey through the

  118. wilderness. But, uh, before we get to

  119. Luke 4, it's actually Luke chapter 3,

    Luke 3 chapter mention

  120. uh, verse 21 when Jesus is baptized. And

  121. it says this, uh, when all the people

  122. were being baptized, Jesus was baptized,

  123. too. And as he was praying, heaven was

  124. open and the Holy Spirit descended on

  125. him in bodily form like a dove and a

  126. voice came from heaven saying, "You are

  127. my son whom I am well pleased." So here

  128. we have Jesus having his baptism. And so

  129. for 30 years there's a little bit of

  130. obviously we have a lot of the story of

  131. his birth. Then we have a few mentions

  132. of him as a child and then at his

  133. baptism he has this encounter with the

  134. Holy Spirit where the Holy Spirit comes

  135. upon him in the form of a dove. And I

  136. love the story does my Pentecostal heart

  137. good that like there was a presence of

  138. God falling on Jesus. And we need to be

  139. people that create space for encounters

  140. with the presence of God. We need to be

  141. people that believe the Holy Spirit will

  142. turn up and and change lives and that

  143. encountering him can change everything

  144. in a moment. Like that is foundational

  145. to who we are. We believe that the

  146. spirit pours out on people and he

  147. changes things.

  148. And I could tell you of a number of

  149. stories in my life where I've had

  150. dramatic encounters with God that have

  151. changed the course and the direction of

  152. my life. Uh I would say one of the

  153. interesting things is though sometimes

  154. what happens is we actually tell the

  155. story of a dramatic encounter as if we

  156. live there every day. So we take our

  157. highlight story of what God did and it

  158. is powerful and we should want more and

  159. we should hunger for that. But sometimes

  160. we almost pretend like well this is what

  161. happens to me every single day. And you

  162. know um some people u may experience

  163. them as I've said before. I'm jealous of

  164. those people also skeptical but um but

  165. but but ma mainly jealous um but you

  166. know we we we do believe that there is a

  167. place where the spirit of God comes upon

  168. people in a moment of encounter and

  169. lives are transformed where where bodies

  170. are healed where drug addictions are

  171. broken in an instant where where

  172. something happens where the Holy Spirit

  173. comes upon people and there is

  174. transformation and We absolutely need to

  175. be a church and a people that pursue

  176. that.

  177. >> If you're like me, maybe you get

  178. frustrated with the term like we're in a

  179. season of preparation. Anyone ever kind

  180. of I was like, man, I realized when I

  181. was growing up in church, it was like

  182. anytime God wasn't doing what we wanted

  183. him to do, people would be like, oh,

  184. we're just in a season of preparation.

  185. I'll be like, ah, I'm actually kind of

  186. sick of being in a season of

  187. preparation. And then I'd hear people

  188. say like, then God turned up and messed

  189. everything up and we weren't even ready.

  190. And I was like, so even when we think

  191. we're prepared, we're not prepared. Cuz

  192. if we're prepared, it's like, man, it's

  193. probably not what he's going to do. And

  194. so, I don't know about you, but I was

  195. like, "Oh, I'm really sick of always

  196. being in a season of preparation." Like,

  197. it would be really nice to progress from

  198. the season of preparation into what God

  199. has for us.

  200. And so, Jesus had lived 30 years. The

  201. spirit descends upon him like a dove. He

  202. hears the voice of the father. This is

  203. my son in whom I am well pleased. So

  204. here we have this amazing moment and and

  205. so the spirit is on him in the form of a

  206. dove and and the voice of heaven, the

  207. Holy Spirit's like, "Wow, what's going

  208. to happen next?" Like 30 years. It's

  209. like finally the season of preparation

  210. is over. Jesus has spent 30 years and

  211. it's like wow I wonder what will happen

  212. next. If you didn't know the story I

  213. think for most of us it would be a bit

  214. bit of a plot twist that in Luke 4:1 it

    Luke 4:1

  215. says Jesus full of the spirit left the

  216. Jordan and was led by the spirit into

  217. the wilderness.

  218. It's like 30 years of preparation for

  219. ministry. the Holy Spirit descends on

  220. him and then the first function of the

  221. Holy Spirit is to lead him into the

  222. wilderness. I'm like, well, that doesn't

  223. really I'm like, I thought that all the

  224. preparation was gone. Now he's full of

  225. the spirit and and and then the spirit

  226. says, no, what I'm going to do is lead

  227. you into the wilderness.

  228. My goodness, that's not what I expected.

  229. And uh

  230. it's interesting because I think the

  231. Greek word will come up on the screen.

  232. It is to lead by implication to bring or

  233. to even drive. And so you have one

  234. member of the Trinity driving another

  235. member of the Trinity into uh the

  236. wilderness. And if you're wondering if

  237. you've got questions about the theology

  238. of that, Clinton would love to meet you

  239. afterwards. Uh I think he done his

  240. dissertation on that. So he will explain

  241. to you how one member of the trinity can

  242. be driving the next member of the

  243. trinity into the wilderness and how that

  244. works with the picture of the godhead.

  245. Um

  246. but we have

  247. the spirit driving Jesus into the

  248. wilderness. Isn't it amazing that the

  249. first act that we read of of the spirit

  250. in Jesus' life, obviously he was born of

  251. the spirit. We know that like uh I mean

  252. but the first after the spirit coming

  253. upon him the first thing that actually

  254. happened was he was driven to the

  255. wilderness. Like that doesn't meet my

  256. narrative of what it means to be

  257. Pentecostal. I've never had an altar

  258. call where they said who wants to

  259. receive the Holy Spirit? You receive the

  260. Holy Spirit and they say right now go to

  261. the wilderness. Like I've never

  262. encountered that before. But that's what

  263. happened to Jesus that he received the

  264. spirit then he was driven to the

  265. wilderness.

  266. And it's a pattern that doesn't match

  267. exactly but you can actually see it in

  268. many of the biblical heroes. You see a

  269. similar pattern of this wilderness

  270. space. You know, Paul after he has his

  271. Damascus road experience actually goes

  272. and spends years in the Arabian desert.

  273. Like he's finally uh um been transformed

  274. and then he just when you think, well,

  275. wow, he's going to carry the gospel. He

  276. no, he actually gets drawn into this

  277. private place. And it's interesting

  278. because I believe we need to be people

  279. that are hungry to encounter the spirit.

  280. But I also believe we need to be people

  281. that allow the spirit to lead us into

  282. spirit uh into seasons of

  283. transformation.

  284. Actually, that there are seasons of

  285. formation that the Holy Spirit wants to

  286. do in our lives. And there are things

  287. that will only happen through encounter.

  288. And there are things that will only

  289. happen through seasons.

  290. And uh in leadership we we teach this as

  291. a principle that sometimes one of the

  292. worst things you can do is try and fix a

  293. process problem with an event. You know

  294. like you have a workplace that has low

  295. morale and they go we've got low low

  296. morale. No one likes each other. I know

  297. what we'll do. We'll have a team

  298. building day. We'll grab all of the

  299. people who are disconnected and make

  300. them sit around and put stickers on and

  301. talk about feelings for eight hours and

  302. that will fix it. A and the problem is

  303. they're trying to fix a problem that is

  304. actually a process problem with an

  305. event, right? It's like no, actually

  306. people saying good morning to each other

  307. and smiling might do a whole lot better

  308. for the culture than actually a team

  309. building day that no one wants to go to.

  310. And

  311. >> sometimes what happens is we have the

  312. encounter, it's so powerful, we need it

  313. and then we think, well, what I need now

  314. is another encounter. Well, I guess that

  315. was so powerful. Just let me have

  316. another encounter. And yes, we do need

  317. another encounter. And I believe we

  318. actually need other power encounters as

  319. well. But we also need to know what it

  320. is to be led into a process where God

  321. begins to form us. And that obviously

  322. happens in our daily routine. That

  323. happens through reading the word,

  324. through praying, through setting aside

  325. time. But I believe it also happens

  326. through seasons that the Holy Spirit

  327. invites us into. Seasons of formation

  328. where we actually experience what might

  329. be called a wilderness, but we actually

  330. realize that in the kingdom great things

  331. grow in the wilderness. that we have

  332. daily patterns, but we also have seasons

  333. of leaning in and allowing things to

  334. grow.

  335. >> And so, part of the reason why we do

  336. Lent as a church is that probably about

  337. six years ago, I felt the spirit leading

  338. me into a season. I was like, uh, I'll

  339. be honest, I was kind of like, h, not

  340. totally what I want. I mean, um, Lent

  341. isn't always fun. I mean, Jesus

  342. practiced 40 days in the wilderness and

  343. the devil turned up, right? So, like, if

  344. you struggle to pray sometimes, think,

  345. "Man, my prayer time's hard." Well, just

  346. think of Jesus, the son of God. His

  347. prayer time, his time of fasting, the

  348. flipping devil turns up. So, um, that

  349. kind of made me feel a little bit better

  350. about getting hangry when I'm fasting,

  351. right? I was like, "Okay, well, at least

  352. the physical devil isn't here."

  353. But Jesus

  354. started, the spirit led him to this

  355. place. And I believe we need deep

  356. encounters.

  357. But I do believe there is something that

  358. sometimes happens uh within some

  359. charismatic circles where people are

  360. like, I just want the next encounter. I

  361. just want the next encounter. I just

  362. want the next encounter. Just give me an

  363. encounter. Just give me an encounter.

  364. And it's almost like a drug addict just

  365. going, just hype me up so I can get

  366. through the next week. And I believe we

  367. need encounters. I I burn for you to

  368. encounter the Holy Spirit. But I also

  369. believe that sometimes post the

  370. encounter, what he actually does is lead

  371. us into a season where he's like, I am

  372. going to form you into a person that can

  373. carry what I want you to carry. You see

  374. the desert, Jesus did not live the rest

  375. of his life in the desert. He was led

  376. out for divine purpose.

  377. But there is this place that he came to.

  378. So I felt my own challenge to um to

  379. begin to um practice Lent and I was

  380. like, "Oh, that's not really my

  381. tradition. Um you know, I'd rather do

  382. something else." Um and then um I really

  383. felt challenged to um to uh fast coffee

  384. for the 40 days. And um uh at that stage

  385. I was drinking probably four to five

  386. cups of coffee a day. That was 425, not

  387. 45, but still four to five cups of

  388. coffee a day. On the odd occasion it was

  389. a triple shot. So it was I was feeling

  390. humming. Like you can imagine if I'm

  391. like this on two coffees a day, you can

  392. imagine back then I'm peing pretty good.

  393. And uh

  394. Sarah was very very grateful for Lent,

  395. but not the first few days as I um had

  396. the headaches and crashed and but one of

  397. the things that had happened to me um

  398. that our local coffee shop in Alexandria

  399. um after Alexandra got power then got

  400. the internet and then we actually got an

  401. app that you could download and you

  402. could order coffee off the app and um it

  403. was good coffee. And I certainly

  404. wouldn't do it every day, but maybe like

  405. a couple of times a week, I'd be like,

  406. "I'm going to work. I can order a

  407. coffee." And what I realized was like I

  408. would order this coffee. I would um go

  409. in. It was wonderful cuz you didn't have

  410. to wait. You didn't even really have to

  411. talk to the person. It's just kind of

  412. sitting there with your name. And uh so

  413. like you order it, you pay for it

  414. without doing anything. You walk in, you

  415. pick it up, you go to your car, and then

  416. by the time you've got work, got to

  417. work, the coffee is gone anyway. You not

  418. really thought about it. Just medicating

  419. yourself with caffeine, right? And so I

  420. was kind of like, I don't know if this

  421. this is actually that healthy. Like, let

  422. me get my coffee and let me avoid people

  423. while I do it. Just give me the

  424. caffeine. I'm happy to pay someone to

  425. make me a cup of coffee that I will

  426. maybe enjoy or maybe I'll just drop down

  427. the hatch before I've even thought about

  428. it. And so I realized in the midst of

  429. that as I gave up coffee, what the Lord

  430. was actually saying to me is there is a

  431. consumer uh mindset attached to that

  432. that is in your life that is not healthy

  433. for you. And so I am inviting you into a

  434. season and yes it is a season of fasting

  435. but it's actually a season of fasting

  436. that because I have something better for

  437. you. It's not transactional that well

  438. would you give up this so you can get

  439. something. It's more like would you give

  440. up this so you can become something?

  441. Would you would you give up that so that

  442. you actually my work in your life you

  443. begin to become a different person. And

  444. I can tell you the first few days of no

  445. coffee, I did become a different person.

  446. It just wasn't one that you wanted to be

  447. around. I had headaches. I began to

  448. dream in the night. I began to do um the

  449. I I Googled it. Google told me that um

  450. because I had withdrawn so much

  451. caffeine, I was actually sleeping

  452. properly. Imagine that. And they're

  453. like, "You're having dreams because

  454. you're sleeping." And uh what was

  455. amazing was I 100% would have told you,

  456. "Oh, caffeine does not affect me." No,

  457. it doesn't. I can drink five a day. It

  458. doesn't affect me at all. Then I go off

  459. it and I'm like, "Oh, wow. I'm actually

  460. sleeping like really deep." I'm like,

  461. "Wow, this is what it looks like when

  462. you don't medicate yourself with

  463. caffeine." By the way, this is not a

  464. judgment to anyone who enjoys coffee. I

  465. drink coffee. I enjoy coffee. It's good.

  466. But like all things, it's good to have

  467. it in its right place. You're probably

  468. mature enough that it is in its right

  469. place. In my life, it wasn't. And so, I

  470. was like, man, I need to have a reset.

  471. Actually, the next year I did the 40

  472. days for Lent. I went on and actually

  473. did a year without coffee. And uh it

  474. came to the following Lent. And I was

  475. like, I don't know what I can sacrifice

  476. because I'm going to start having coffee

  477. again. And anything that I sacrifice is

  478. going to beat pale into the

  479. insignificance that I can actually drink

  480. coffee again. Cuz even after a year, I

  481. was like, uh, I still want a coffee. And

  482. so, yeah, it was a really weird Lent

  483. that one cuz I'm like, I'll sacrifice

  484. something, but it doesn't really matter

  485. because the first day of Lent was

  486. actually me getting a cup of coffee and

  487. I'm like, yes, the year is over. Lent is

  488. a joyous season this time. as I partake

  489. in coffee.

  490. And so I believe we need encounters with

  491. the spirit.

  492. And I deeply believe we also need not

  493. just moments. We do need moments every

  494. day. We need disciplines every day. But

  495. I also believe we need seasons in our

  496. life where we turn aside.

  497. And one of the things I've realized is

  498. um as I began to practice Lent, I kind

  499. of didn't intend to, but I I I begin to

  500. began to found this dual thing that

  501. would happen where, you know, as a

  502. pastor, you go to conferences and I like

  503. going to conferences, would usually go

  504. to conferences that were aimed around

  505. being filled with the spirit and those

  506. kind of things. And I would continue to

  507. go to those. What I began to feel was I

  508. was like beginers just drawing to like

  509. hey take a few days and go to a retreat

  510. center. Hey go to a a a a monastery and

  511. and spend some time there. And so I

  512. began to feel this this thing began to

  513. rise up where it was like not just uh uh

  514. conferences or encounters even though it

  515. was still that. There was also this

  516. invitation like will you put times of

  517. sight of your life aside where it is a

  518. different season because you are wanting

  519. to form I'm wanting to form you in a

  520. different way and uh pastor Trevor

  521. encouraged our men so well in that um at

  522. the at the beginning of the year the

  523. men's breakfast where he shared about

  524. just you know he was going to go to a

  525. conference and then all of a sudden the

  526. Holy Spirit convicted him and he was

  527. like not that conferences are bad we

  528. both go to conference We both went to

  529. conferences after that. But he was

  530. actually like, "No, I just need to go

  531. aside. I just need to go to a quiet

  532. place. I just need to go to a place

  533. where God is going to form something in

  534. me." So this Lent season is an

  535. invitation for us to be formed into the

  536. people that Jesus wants us to be. And my

  537. prayer is actually that just like I

  538. found where I started off, I did Lent

  539. once and thought, "Oh, that's good. I've

  540. done it. Tick the box." And then I

  541. actually began to feel the spirit

  542. leading me. Wow. Will you take a season

  543. aside here? Hey, will you go to this

  544. place? Hey, will you do that? Will you

  545. make space? Will you be led into seasons

  546. where you are formed? And so here we

  547. have Jesus full of the spirit. And the

  548. first thing that the spirit does is pull

  549. him aside. Can I tell you if we are to

  550. be true Pentecostals,

  551. to be led by the spirit, then we

  552. actually need to know what it is for the

  553. spirit to lead us into seasons of

  554. formation. And I think sometimes what

  555. has happened is that the encounter has

  556. been so powerful that we've thought, I

  557. don't actually need that season of

  558. formation, man. I was just so filled. It

  559. was so amazing. I had such breakthrough.

  560. I I I I don't need that season. I'll

  561. just uh go straight out. But here we

  562. have the son of God, sinless for 30

  563. years,

  564. born of the spirit, never done one thing

  565. wrong. Then the spirit falls upon him.

  566. He hears the voice of the father and

  567. then the very first thing the spirit

  568. does is drive him out to a place where

  569. he would pray and fast. If the spirit

  570. wanted to drive the son of God into a

  571. season of formation, can I suggest to

  572. you it is probably foundational for us

  573. to allow seasons in our life where the

  574. spirit drives us into something maybe

  575. something we wouldn't choose. And in

  576. that place, we realize that there is so

  577. much life. Yes, it can be hard, but

  578. there's life and growth and there is

  579. something. I heard Judas Smith say this

  580. prayer that he'd been praying. He said

  581. he he said he'd been praying, "God,

  582. would you save me from what I think I

  583. want?

  584. God, would you save me from what I think

  585. I want?" You see, in the desert, in the

  586. wilderness, many times what we find is

  587. our appetites actually the thing that we

  588. thought we wanted was actually not what

  589. we wanted. A and that the human heart

  590. actually burns

  591. to know him in an intimate way

  592. >> and we get these invitations

  593. to turn aside for a season. So my prayer

  594. is that um this Lent season is not

  595. simply something where you go hey I gave

  596. up something and whether you give up

  597. something or not I couldn't really care

  598. less in one sense because the goal is

  599. not to give up something. The goal is to

  600. have the spirit lead us into seasons of

  601. formation. The goal is actually to have

  602. a season where it's like wow. But can I

  603. tell you giving something up really

  604. helps. It's like, man, that daily thing

  605. of, oh, I was going to do that. Now I

  606. have a choice. Lord, would you be formed

  607. in me? Wow, now I have this constant

  608. reminder of, wow, I'm not doing that.

  609. So, Lord, would you do a work in me?

  610. God, would you produce something in me?

  611. And I think many times,

  612. I know in my life, I've felt like I'm

  613. not really growing how I want to. I

  614. mean, I don't know if anyone else would

  615. identify where they would be like,

  616. "Flip, I don't feel like I'm really

  617. growing in God the way I want to." And

  618. um I think I would still say that uh you

  619. know, to a to to to a definite extent.

  620. In fact, Joy on uh uh Wednesday night

  621. kicking off our 72 hours of prayer, they

  622. um done the song um

  623. uh what's the song called? Give me

  624. Jesus. And uh within the song there's

  625. these words that say um I don't want

  626. anything else. And I was like I was kind

  627. of reminded of that quote that

  628. Christians don't tell lies, they sing

  629. them. And I'm kind of like I don't want

  630. anything else. I'm like

  631. feeling a little bit of conviction

  632. as I'm like, "Oh, I I do want Jesus,

  633. but there are at least one or two

  634. hundred other things that I want as

  635. well." I'm like, "Man." And um I was

  636. like singing that and I was feeling

  637. really convicted. I was like, "Oh, God."

  638. Um, and then Joyce said, "Hey, maybe

  639. you're singing that and it's not true

  640. for you." And I'm like,

  641. >> "Yes." I'm like, "Oh, Lord, please don't

  642. make don't make me go to the altar."

  643. And then she said the beautiful words

  644. that during this Lent season would a

  645. grace be released over you where what

  646. you where that would become true for

  647. you. And I don't know if that I don't

  648. know if you ever get to the place of

  649. arriving where you're like where you can

  650. honestly say now I know all I want is

  651. Jesus. But I believe we can grow in the

  652. journey of that.

  653. >> And that so blessed me joy ministering

  654. that. And you know, I I got into the

  655. prayer room the next mo uh early hours

  656. of the next morning and as I came to the

  657. end of my prayer time, I was like, "Oh,

  658. wow. I I feel like I want you more than

  659. I did before.

  660. >> I I haven't arrived, but I feel like I

  661. want you more than I did before." And my

  662. prayer is for each of us that as we do

  663. this Lent season

  664. that it would not be about the mechanics

  665. but it would be about our hearts and it

  666. would actually maybe be where some of us

  667. are have felt stuck and we're like wow I

  668. just don't feel like I'm growing. We

  669. would feel an invitation. Well maybe the

  670. invitation is to formation.

  671. You know, I also believe that some of us

  672. are going to have radical encounters in

  673. Lent. That there will be transformation

  674. that will happen in an instant. But I

  675. also believe that maybe one of the

  676. miracles will be someone who felt like

  677. they were stuck, just plateaued at the

  678. same level with God for a long time,

  679. that they'd actually come into a new

  680. season, that I would come into a new

  681. season, that we would be blessed by him.

  682. And so we're going to finish in a way

  683. that I don't usually finish this

  684. morning. I'm actually going to read uh

  685. what is called a doxology overview from

  686. Jude 1:24 and then uh Pastor Paul will

    Jude 1:24

  687. come after that and close the service.

  688. But why don't you close your eyes,

  689. place your hand on your heart,

  690. Lord, as we come into this season as a

  691. church. Lord, I say

  692. over us

  693. to him who is able to keep you from

  694. stumbling

  695. and to present you before his glorious

  696. presence without fault and with great

  697. joy.

  698. Lord, I speak that over each person,

  699. Lord, that you are able to keep us from

  700. stumbling.

  701. And Lord, to come before your glorious

  702. presence without fault and with great

  703. joy. Lord, I speak that over each

  704. person. And Lord, the reason is for the

  705. only God our savior that he would have

  706. glory, majesty, power, and authority

  707. through Jesus Christ our Lord before all

  708. ages now and forever more. Lord, I bless

  709. each person,

  710. Lord, whether uh it's the first time

  711. taking a season like this, whether

  712. they're even still not sure of whether

  713. they want to partake in it. Lord, I pray

  714. we would be a church that would be

  715. formed in the fire of encounter. And

  716. Lord, we would also be formed in the

  717. fire of the desert as we pursue you in

  718. Jesus
