  1. I love that song from the team this

  2. morning. I am free. It is going to be

  3. exciting. Yes, you're probably right. I

  4. probably should move this mic stand just

  5. in case I get too free up here. Hi. Uh

  6. so good to have you along here this

  7. morning. If you are new to here, if

  8. you're down visiting the promised land

  9. of Tadanga from another part of New

  10. Zealand or another another part of the

  11. world, can we just say in advance it

  12. doesn't rain often here and we are sorry

  13. that it rains on a long weekend. So,

  14. normally it is just sunshine and fairy

  15. dust all over the place. So, that is an

  16. absolute lie, but it's all right. Sales

  17. pitch here. Hi. So, my name is Paul if

  18. you haven't met me. And it's my pleasure

  19. to share with us this morning. Uh, now I

  20. have probably shared this a few times,

  21. but I just want to like misery loves

  22. company. So uh um if you don't know in

  23. my life I have a vent in my life where

  24. I'm actually color blind and I have

  25. absolutely um uh stuffed up so many

  26. things in my life because of this very

  27. much color blindness. I have got now get

  28. this I've got a painter to paint uh the

  29. entire house the wrong color because I'm

  30. color blind and I didn't know he was

  31. color blind either. The blind leading

  32. the blind. I uh like this is this is

  33. traumatic for me, but I almost like I

  34. almost turned up last week with uh green

  35. jeans on and and what I realized now is

  36. called a grape top. Now uh Jamaima did

  37. stop me before I walked got out the

  38. doors and said those two colors do not

  39. go together. So I ended up wearing black

  40. and black just in case I was uh unsure.

  41. But I have this bent in my life

  42. to see things differently than others.

  43. And we actually before we before we go

  44. into that, we're going to have a bit of

  45. a test to see any of you are also

  46. colorblind hearing. So we got the first

  47. one up here. We got a let's do a test.

  48. Can anyone see the what's written in

  49. there? What is it? 3 2 1.

  50. >> It's Jesus, guys. The answer is Jesus.

  51. Is it one?

  52. That's good. Okay. So, we got I think

  53. the second ones are slightly harder. So,

  54. what's in this one?

  55. >> It's Jesus, guys. The answer to me is

  56. always is Jesus. All right. Are you

  57. serious? Is that 74?

  58. That's very good. Thank you guys. Is

  59. anyone not seeing anything? Am I just

  60. the only one? You horrible people.

  61. Where's your Oh, we got one over here.

  62. This is fantastic. All right. This is I

  63. think this is the hardest one. Deise

  64. told me.

  65. Give me time to process here, guys.

  66. Like, you're just throwing it out there.

  67. So, is this is this is number five? So,

  68. I obviously don't see number five. I see

  69. the words because I just put it in

  70. there. Jesus. Uh because I can't see

  71. anything. Um but and mine's only very

  72. minor. I did see I could see the first

  73. one. I could see number one, but I I

  74. because of this bent in my life, right?

  75. I don't see what everyone else sees. And

  76. I in my life have learned that I have to

  77. go to an external person in my life to

  78. confirm what I'm seeing.

  79. And as we come around the scripture this

  80. morning, my prayer is this morning that

  81. we will all learn that we have a a

  82. internal wiring or a bent in our lives

  83. that we need to go that we see things

  84. differently to what the scripture says

  85. and that we need to go to an external

  86. voice in our lives so that instead of

  87. seeing number one, we see Jesus. You

  88. know,

  89. can he um can I just say God's presence

  90. in our life ignites faith in our lives,

  91. does it not? But obedience to his

  92. presence shapes and sustains our life.

  93. Letting the Holy Spirit lead and guide

  94. our lives is so important. And my prayer

  95. for us this morning is that he guides us

  96. through this text and we keep our lives

  97. on him, our eyes, our lives and eyes on

  98. him this morning because it feels like a

  99. really holy moment. So if you got your

  100. Bibles, why don't you turn to John

    John 16:7

  101. chapter 16 verse 7 and 8.

  102. And uh I'm pretty sure you guys can do

  103. this because you guys can see the color.

  104. This is fantastic. You guys are super

  105. smart people out there. I actually

  106. thought there'd be more of us. So this

  107. is all good. John chapter 16 7 and 8.

    John 16 chapter mention

  108. I'm going to read uh initially from the

  109. English Standard Version. Then I'm going

  110. to just quickly read also from the NIV

  111. version. You guys got it there? It will

  112. appear on the giant screen behind me,

  113. but it's so good to get your own Bibles

  114. out uh as well. This is fantastic. I can

  115. hear papers. Oh, you guys are just

  116. awesome Christians out there. I love it.

  117. I found my Bible the other day.

  118. Yeah. It's never a good sign when you

  119. know the pastor doesn't know where his

  120. own Bible is. Uh it's all good. Verse

  121. verse uh here we go. John chapter 16 78.

    John 16 chapter mention

  122. Now this is Jesus uh talking to his

  123. disciples

  124. uh just before he goes to the cross. Uh

  125. and if you didn't know, we're we're week

  126. three in a Holy Spirit sort of uh series

  127. we're doing here. Uh so this is week

  128. number three. Uh nevertheless, this is

  129. Jesus. This is him talking to his

  130. disciples. I tell you the truth. It is

  131. to your advantage that I go away. For if

  132. I do not go away, the helper will not

  133. come to you. But if I go, I will send

  134. him to you. And when he comes, he will

  135. convict the world concerning sin,

  136. righteousness, and judgment. It's going

  137. to read verse seven in the NIV. But

  138. truly, but very truly, I tell you, it is

  139. for your good that I'm going away. Now,

  140. let's just start there because I I think

  141. a lot of us here when we read that sort

  142. of first part of the verse is we don't

  143. fully believe it. All right? Uh I I know

  144. Eley was out there I think Tuesday night

  145. he was out fishing for 27 hours. 27

  146. hours. It just makes me feel sick

  147. thinking about it. But 27 hours out on

  148. the water and seven or 10 guys and I

  149. think they caught like seven fish

  150. between them all and just they barely

  151. had enough for me to eat. It was

  152. embarrassing. And I I can tell you what

  153. Eley would have loved for the real

  154. physical Jesus to be in that boat,

  155. right? Just uh put your net on the other

  156. side and a large catch of fish. How

  157. awesome would that be? Because I think

  158. sometimes we do read these verses and we

  159. we don't fully believe that it was

  160. actually for our good that Jesus went

  161. away. Can I say this? This girl here

  162. that is uh a lot of us believe this text

  163. as much as this little girl here. When

  164. Lara hears from her parents uh don't

  165. worry I we won't be long. Ma and P will

  166. be looking after you. There's a photo of

  167. her up here. As you can see that's the

  168. face there on the left. She doesn't

  169. believe her parents. She she goes,

  170. "What? These two are looking after me

  171. now." She she goes, "Whatever, parents."

  172. And so it is funny how we come into

  173. these scriptures and obviously when and

  174. mom comes back, look how happy she is at

  175. the end there. So we don't want to be

  176. like Lyra this morning, guys.

  177. We want to believe that it is actually

  178. for our good that the Holy Spirit has

  179. come. We don't want to just think that

  180. it was just a nice to do. It wasn't an

  181. infomercial. God wasn't just promising

  182. something and not delivering. It is for

  183. our good that Jesus went to the father

  184. and that the Holy Spirit came. We've got

  185. to start there. The foundation of this

  186. text and what is coming in this text

  187. later on is for our good. Can we get

  188. this this morning, guys? We can't move

  189. on. So, I sort of get some

  190. acknowledgement here because I'm I'm a

  191. pe I need some sort of feedback here. It

  192. is for our

  193. You guys are awesome. This you guys are

  194. fantastic. 9:00 service. You guys are

  195. amazing. A long weekend and you are

  196. engaging. This is so good. Can I It's so

  197. important that Jesus even at the start

  198. he goes very truly he double emphasizes

  199. something here because he's saying what

  200. is going to come may feel hard or a hard

  201. truth to swallow but it is for your

  202. good.

  203. What is coming is for your good. God,

  204. when God created the world, it was good.

  205. It was perfect. We stuffed it up, but it

  206. was good. God is coming to us and Jesus,

  207. he's going, "It is good." And what I'm

  208. going to say to you is that right there,

  209. guys, you guys ready? I got a prophetic

  210. word for all of you here this morning.

  211. It is starts and it's from the word of

  212. God. If you want to hear God's voice,

  213. read the Bible. Jeremiah 29:11 says

    Jeremiah 29:11

  214. this, "For I know the plans I have for

  215. you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper

  216. you and to not harm you." Come on, guys.

  217. plans to give you a hope and a future.

  218. Paul, the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 9:8

  219. 9:8 says this, "And God is able to bless

  220. you abundantly so that in all things at

  221. all times, having all that you need, you

  222. will abound in every good work." Come

  223. on, we are starting with a good father

  224. who knows how to do give us good things

  225. this morning.

  226. Come on online, you've got to get this

  227. as well. Good. This is for our good. It

  228. feels like I'm building up to something,

  229. aren't I? It feels like this is going to

  230. be bad news, but I I am so excited by

  231. this morning. I am trying not to cry.

  232. I'm trying not to have ugly snot. I am

  233. doing so well so far. You have no idea.

  234. But I I know what that word that pray

  235. song that joicing. I am free. I am free.

  236. I'm free. It's coming. It is coming.

  237. When we understand that the goodness of

  238. God sets us free. And these words that

  239. we're going to go through set us free.

  240. Oh my gosh, the sunshine that we have

  241. just feels better because we are a God

  242. who is good, who gives us good things.

  243. Wow, there it is. Come on, God. Holy

  244. Spirit, it's right here. Come on, let's

  245. carry on. Otherwise, I'm going to cry.

  246. Verse seven. Aaron beautifully uh

  247. preached about this uh last week. So, if

  248. you haven't heard it, go back and see

  249. it. I don't know where you were, but I

  250. don't know. You weren't in church, so

  251. judging eyes from up here. Just saying.

  252. No, Aaron would never judge you. I will.

  253. Um verse 7 it says but if I go I will

  254. send him to you. It's so beautiful that

  255. he sends up uh the Holy Spirit the

  256. advocate to us and it the beautiful when

  257. he the moment he sends the Holy Spirit

  258. what happens an outpouring happens fire

  259. excitement they they go out and in that

  260. one day 3,000 people get added to the

  261. church. When God sends the Holy Spirit

  262. something good happens where people get

  263. to know him. Verse eight come on here we

  264. go. John chapter 16:8.

  265. And when he comes, he will, here we go.

  266. Oh, this is a bit of a pivot here. He

  267. will convict the world. We don't like

  268. this word very much. Concerning sin and

  269. righteousness and judgment. Come on,

  270. let's break this down. Conviction.

  271. Firstly, my my understanding of

  272. conviction is this. A lot of us think

  273. the legal term, but my my one is the

  274. conviction. I have a conviction. It is a

  275. it is an unshakable belief.

  276. First thing in my mind when I hear the

  277. word conviction is I have a conviction

  278. that my father is in heaven is good.

  279. That is an unshakable belief. No matter

  280. what I go through, nothing will ever

  281. shake that. The word convict, he will

  282. convict us. The second meaning which a

  283. lot of us think it is and it is. It's an

  284. official declaration of guilt by a court

  285. of law. So the Holy Spirit comes and

  286. this is good for us. Come on guys, this

  287. is good for us. He comes and he will

  288. convict us of and we're in the world

  289. concerning sin of righteousness and

  290. judgment. Here we go. So, if you're here

  291. and you're new to faith, can I say this

  292. is such a good morning for you to be

  293. here as a Christian, if you're here this

  294. morning, you're a follower of Jesus, can

  295. I just say this is and I'm going to say

  296. the word forgiven at the end here, guys.

  297. And you guys should be cheering just in

  298. case. I'm just setting you guys. This is

  299. a soft landing for you guys. So, here's

  300. a very short sentence. As a Christian,

  301. all of your sins are forgiven. Oh, come

  302. on. That was good. That was good. This

  303. Oside over here is a little bit slower.

  304. They were just letting it process that

  305. little bit longer. As a Christian, all

  306. of your sins are what? Are forgiven.

  307. Yeah. Now, you probably believe that

  308. from the Bible. So, how do we respond to

  309. this verse when the Holy Spirit convicts

  310. us of our sin? So, this counselor once

  311. told me, see, some Christians don't

  312. really believe they have sinned.

  313. Others believe they have never really

  314. been forgiven.

  315. I would like us to help us this morning

  316. to appreciate both the reality of your

  317. sin and the reality of Christ's

  318. forgiveness.

  319. We asked this question alpha in week

  320. four. It is we asked this question. It's

  321. going to pop up. What is sin? And I tell

  322. you what, it is actually really hard to

  323. answer for a lot of people. We have a

  324. lot of people from different faiths and

  325. and different walks and the journey

  326. through a lot of things. And you come to

  327. this question and uh Ernie Ernest

  328. Hemingway probably sums up what a lot of

  329. people in alpha will will describe. They

  330. say this he says this I think it's going

  331. to come up. He say once said that if

  332. something is moral good you feel good

  333. afterwards. If immoral you feel bad

  334. afterwards. And that's kind of how most

  335. people think sin is. It's a popular view

  336. of sin. Many have lived by it but it's

  337. not actually the biblical view of sin.

  338. Can I just say biblically or simply put

  339. sin is an attitude of wanting your way

  340. instead of God's way.

  341. The word sin actually means missing the

  342. mark or falling short of the standard.

  343. But I can I just it's simply put it's an

  344. attitude of wanting your way instead of

  345. God's way. So now we know what sin is.

  346. The next question is does sin matter to

  347. God? Great question. And can I say he

  348. cannot tolerate it. Habacook uh one says

  349. this to talking about God. Your eyes are

  350. too pure to look on evil. You cannot

  351. tolerate wrong. Here we go. Come on. God

  352. in first John. God is light. In him

  353. there is no darkness at all. See this

  354. may seem unimportant to you because uh

  355. Jesus has paid for all of our sins,

  356. right? Why be so concerned with the fact

  357. that about sin when God loves us and has

  358. a wonderful plan for our lives to

  359. prosper us? Do we really care about

  360. these little things called sin? Maybe

  361. maybe you view sin is just a mistake,

  362. right? You know, chalk it up to a life

  363. lesson. You know, that was not a very

  364. good decision. Maybe like like me, you

  365. have these sayings like C's get degrees.

  366. You know, it's like close enough is good

  367. enough. Or if you're like Clinton, he's

  368. not on the house, but if you're a

  369. builder in this house, Clinton has this

  370. amazing sale, do your best and silicon

  371. the rest. Maybe that's your view of life

  372. and uh that's not how he built the

  373. offices. It's okay. It's all right. It's

  374. how he does other jobs. No, I wouldn't

  375. say that. I hope you watch this too,

  376. Clinton. This is fantastic.

  377. God never views sin as such.

  378. Because of one sin, Adam and Eve were

  379. exiled from paradise.

  380. Because of sin, God brought a flood upon

  381. the earth's inhabitants in the days of

  382. Noah. He bought fire and destroyed Sodom

  383. and Gomorrah because of their blatant

  384. sin. Sin kept the Israelite nation out

  385. of the promised land for 40 years. One

  386. lie in the New Testament about an

  387. offering being brought to the to God was

  388. enough to kill them. God hates sin.

  389. Can we say this again? To the mezzanine,

  390. God hates sin. Yet to us, sin feels good

  391. and we do it. And like Adam and Eve, we

  392. think we can eat the fruit and know good

  393. and evil and not be overcome

  394. by it. But we are not like God.

  395. There was a lie that the devil used as

  396. the humanity at the beginning. God knows

  397. the existence of evil. Yet God is not

  398. evil. Nor does he give into evil. We on

  399. the other hand are attracted to it and

  400. we give into it. However, whenever we

  401. sin, can I say God's spirit inside us is

  402. grieved. Sometimes it's because we he

  403. will cause us to feel guilty in sinning.

  404. We are choosing in that instant to live

  405. independently of the Lord's will for our

  406. life. God doesn't hate. This doesn't

  407. cause God to hate us. He still loves us.

  408. But it does sadden him. In Ephesians 4,

  409. it says, "Do not grieve the Holy

  410. Spirit." Okay. To understand how sin I'm

  411. going fast because I got a lot to cover.

  412. To understand how sin does affect you,

  413. let's look at the difference between

  414. these on these these tables over here.

  415. Hopefully, they come up. Oh, look at

  416. this. Deise, you are amazing. So on the

  417. left we have our relationship with God.

  418. This is what sin does not affect this

  419. this left hand column over here. It

  420. begins when you accept Christ as your

  421. savior. His love your relationship with

  422. God is uh everlasting. It is maintained

  423. solely by God. It never changes. These

  424. are some great verses for you guys to go

  425. through. So sin does not affect your

  426. relationship with God. Starts with us

  427. giving our lives to Christ. It is

  428. everlasting. It is maintained solely by

  429. God. It never changed. Can I say your

  430. fellowship or your, it's a really

  431. Christian word, your connection, your

  432. daily living with God is affected by

  433. God. It still begins when you receive

  434. Christ as your savior. But in Psalm 32,

  435. it says it can be hindered because of

  436. sin. Your everyday life can be hindered

  437. because of sin. It is in part maintained

  438. by you. First John, and it ch your

  439. connection with God does change when you

  440. sin. If you read Psalm 66:18,

    Psalms 66:18

  441. so sin does not affect God's, can I say

  442. this, eternal relationship with you.

  443. That was established when we trusted

  444. Christ as our savior. We took his

  445. payment for our sins. God died for our

  446. sins both past, present, and future. All

  447. that time, everything was paid for

  448. because of your faith in Jesus. You are

  449. totally forgiven. Can I say that? You

  450. are totally forgiven. When you put your

  451. faith in Jesus, your relationship with

  452. God is 100% secure. Can I say this?

  453. Foundation. He's a good father. Our

  454. relationship with him is absolutely

  455. secure. However, sin does affect your

  456. connection with God.

  457. Your daily life, your sin affects how

  458. you communicate with him, your

  459. usefulness in doing his will. Sin dulls

  460. h how the things you do for Christ and

  461. what you're thinking about. This is

  462. David. This is a this is one of the most

  463. beautiful ways in coming back to God and

  464. sort of confessing our sin in Psalm 32

  465. says the writer of David. He did so many

  466. dumb things but he he got this right.

  467. There was a time hopefully comes up on

  468. the screen when I wouldn't admit what a

  469. sinner I was

  470. but my dishonesty made me miserable

  471. and filled my days with frustration.

  472. All day and all night, your hand was

  473. heavy on me. My strength evaporated like

  474. water on a sunny day until I finally

  475. admitted my sins to you and stopped

  476. trying to hide them. I said to myself, I

  477. will confess them to you, Lord, and you

  478. forgave me and all my guilt is gone.

  479. This is the correct response to sin. He

  480. didn't deny it. He didn't become preo

  481. preoccupied with it. That's a hard word

  482. to say. He confessed it.

  483. Confessing sin and repenting. What does

  484. that mean? I'm sorry. This is I I really

  485. want to make sure this is super clear.

  486. Super clear because a lot of the time we

  487. gloss over these sorts of things. I

  488. really want this to help you guys

  489. because I don't want us to leave this

  490. place not being free this morning.

  491. Confessing sin and repenting. What does

  492. it mean to confess sins and repent?

  493. First, confession means to agree with

  494. God. He already knows you've sinned, so

  495. you might as well be honest.

  496. Come on, guys. He already knows what

  497. you've done. You might as well be honest

  498. with it. It says in First John, "If we

  499. confess our sins, he is faithful and

  500. just and will forgive us our sins and

  501. purify us from all unrighteousness."

  502. Confession means freely admitting our

  503. sin and accepting God's attitude about

  504. our sin. Confession does not mean

  505. begging God forgiveness. It doesn't mean

  506. beating yourself up and woe is me, all

  507. that sort of stuff. It simply means

  508. coming to him and uh rep confessing your

  509. sins to him. What happens when I still

  510. feel guilty? This will happen in times

  511. when I still feel guilty even after

  512. you've confessed your sin. And berating

  513. yourself and and like like beating

  514. yourself up doesn't actually help the

  515. purpose here because we've got to part

  516. of confession is I have to now see the

  517. way God sees it. Part of confession is

  518. thanking God that all of our sin has

  519. been paid for by Christ on the basis

  520. what God says in Hebrews. He goes, "I

  521. will be merciful towards their

  522. iniquities. I will remember their sins

  523. no more." So when you're beating

  524. yourself up, God's like, "What are you

  525. beating yourself up for? It's already

  526. been forgiven."

  527. Thanksgiving involves faith because you

  528. are responding to what God's word says

  529. is true about the about you instead of

  530. how you feel. Can I say that again?

  531. God's word says it is true, but you

  532. instead of how you feel. To beat

  533. yourself up focuses yourself on your sin

  534. rather than on Christ and his

  535. forgiveness.

  536. Temptation. Can I say this? Temptation

  537. is not sin.

  538. Jesus was tempted. It wasn't sin. Don't

  539. beat yourself up if you get tempted.

  540. Don't be feel guilty for being tempted.

  541. A great verse I learned is 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 10:13

  542. 10:13. No temptation was overcome or has

  543. overtaken you that is not common to man.

  544. God is faithful and he will lead you to

  545. be tempted beyond your ability. But with

  546. the temptation, he will also provide a

  547. way of escape that you may able to

  548. endure it. Can I say this again? God has

  549. completely forgiven everything you've

  550. done.

  551. God has completely forgiven

  552. you. God has completely forgiven you of

  553. everything you've done. In Romans 8,

  554. there is therefore no condemnation for

  555. those who are in Christ Jesus. He

  556. doesn't look back on your sins and your

  557. failures with condemnation, and neither

  558. should you. God says, "I will remember

  559. their sins and their lawless deeds no

  560. more." I'm really trying to get this

  561. across, guys. We are using the word of

  562. God as a mirror to see what what is in

  563. our lives. The cloud is gone. The cloud

  564. of guilt is gone. Accept God's forgi

  565. complete forgiveness.

  566. The Christian life. Oh, here we go.

  567. Romans 8:2. I told uh Lou that I was

    Romans 8:2

  568. going to go fast. For the law of the

  569. spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set

  570. you free from the law of sin and death.

  571. The Christian life is a life of freedom.

  572. Come on guys. Freedom from guilt and

  573. freedom to live as God intends which is

  574. ultimately the most satisfying life. It

  575. is a process of growth of becoming like

  576. Christ and reflecting Christ. And it

  577. takes time to grow. Can I say this? The

  578. practice of sin is not the normal

  579. lifestyle of believers.

  580. The practice of sin is not the norm not

  581. to be the normal lifestyle of believers.

  582. When we sin, it has effect upon us as

  583. well upon others. For one thing, it robs

  584. us of our ability to understand the

  585. spiritual truth from the Bible. Uh can

  586. we go the first one here? Sin diminishes

  587. our lifegiving Bible reading. Psalm 1

  588. says this, "Their delight is in the law

  589. of the Lord." We are supposed to uh Oh,

  590. there we go. We are supposed to let

  591. God's word act like a mirror to point

  592. out areas in our personal life that

  593. needs changing. Instead, we make excuses

  594. and forget to listen or forget to read

  595. and we busy ourselves with other things.

  596. But Pastor Aaron also shared that two

  597. weeks ago, so I won't go into that. Can

  598. I say sin also robs us of our joy this

  599. morning?

  600. Sin robs us of our joy. This is the a

  601. fantastic verse and I just need to get

  602. rid of this copy thing. Uh the the the

  603. Bible says that God wants our joy. These

  604. things we write to you that your joy may

  605. be full. Come on guys, we do not have to

  606. live a dry, tired, flat life. Our joy

  607. can be full. There is a freedom in

  608. Christ that our joy can be filled. This

  609. is joy is a deep satisfaction. A deep

  610. satisfaction that stems from knowing the

  611. channel is open between us and God. It

  612. is not based on our circumstance. It is

  613. not based how much money we have in our

  614. checking account to hopefully we pay our

  615. mortgage bills. It is based was that too

  616. personal. It is based on uh can knowing

  617. our connection with him is good and

  618. beautiful and true. It's an inner

  619. happiness not dependent on anyone else

  620. upon outsome circumstances and sin will

  621. rob us of that joy. An example of this

  622. again would be King David after his sin

  623. and murder and adultery. Let's just hit

  624. three of the big ones, right guys? He

  625. asked the Lord for restoration of his

  626. joy. He had the audacity after what what

  627. was it? Uh there was a murder, then

  628. there was adultery and there was other

  629. things and lying. He goes restore

  630. to me. Come on, guys. Restore to me the

  631. joy of your salvation. Uphold me in the

  632. your generous spirit, generous spirit.

  633. David knew who God was. He knew he had

  634. stuffed up. But he comes back to him and

  635. goes, "God, restore my joy of your

  636. salvation." Some of us need to do that

  637. this morning. The Christian who looks at

  638. to worldly pleasures to fill that void.

  639. It's like an anesthesia to dead in the

  640. pain of an empty heart. Sin robs us of

  641. our joy. Sin robs us of our peace. Sin

  642. also robs us of our peace. The believer

  643. is to be characterized by inner calm and

  644. a contentment not based on good

  645. circumstances. Can I say that again? On

  646. an inner calm and contentment not based

  647. on good circumstance.

  648. You can go through the valley of the

  649. shadow of death and still be at peace

  650. because his rod and his staff comfort

  651. us.

  652. So many of us our emotions are dictated

  653. by what is happening around us. What is

  654. other people doing to us?

  655. Sin robs us of our peace. And the peace

  656. of God who surpasses all understanding

  657. will guard your hearts and minds through

  658. Christ Jesus. And let the peace of God

  659. rule in your hearts to which you also

  660. were called into one body. Be thankful.

  661. All right, we're getting close, guys. We

  662. are getting close. You guys are doing so

  663. well. Sin causes feelings of separation.

  664. Sin can cause a feeling of separation

  665. between ourselves and God. Um, one John

  666. 1 says this, "If we say we have

  667. fellowship with him and walk in

  668. darkness, we live a lie."

  669. Come on. And do not practice the truth.

  670. This is a really confronting verse. If

  671. we say we are connected to God, we love

  672. Jesus, he is our life, and yet we walk

  673. in darkness, we live a lie

  674. and do not practice the truth.

  675. My last one here is our top word on this

  676. place over here. Sin robs us of our

  677. confidence in prayer.

  678. One John 3, it says this in the later

  679. part. I won't read the whole thing. We

  680. have confidence toward God. And whatever

  681. we ask, we receive from him because we

  682. keep his commandments.

  683. See how that later part is tied into

  684. having confidence with God. Our

  685. confidence comes from obeying his

  686. commandments.

  687. It is so good. Can I uh we'll get the

  688. worship team back up. Now,

  689. I have said all of this.

  690. I had the last couple weeks, this has

  691. been heavy on my heart

  692. because I know what it is in my life to

  693. to live a Christian life but still carry

  694. the weight of sin in my life.

  695. And this morning, God, I just sense in

  696. my heart of hearts that there's some

  697. people in this place

  698. that need a moment and need an

  699. opportunity to respond to the good

  700. father because this is for your good

  701. that we're going to respond here this

  702. morning. If you read further in John 16,

  703. you will see righteousness is available

  704. because Jesus pays the price. And there

  705. is deliverance from the judgment because

  706. of Jesus.

  707. But I believe this morning there is

  708. freedom. The word freedom is on God's

  709. heart this morning. Freedom from sin.

  710. Freedom from its power and its

  711. consequences. Freedom from pretending

  712. this morning. Freedom from having a mask

  713. that covers your your your your your

  714. insecurities this morning. Freedom from

  715. having to live two lives. Freedom in

  716. your whole life. There's hidden doors

  717. that you don't let anyone else into.

  718. Freedom on every aspect. Free every day,

  719. every moment. fre a freedom that is

  720. filled with joy

  721. and every day filled with joy, every day

  722. filled with peace and every day filled

  723. with a connection with God. The freedom

  724. has already been paid for, guys.

  725. It is waiting on you to confess.

  726. Can I say this? Let's not keep ourselves

  727. captive for what Jesus has already paid

  728. for.

  729. If you're sitting in here this morning

  730. going, "This is a great word for those

  731. that aren't here me. Aren't here this

  732. morning."

  733. It's good for those on the other side of

  734. the church, but you're too afraid to go

  735. there yourself because you're like that

  736. first one. Some people think they've

  737. never sinned, and some people think

  738. they've never been forgiven.

  739. What you tolerate in your life will

  740. eventually control it.

  741. If you are here this morning, you are

  742. wanting this freedom.

  743. If you are sick of hiding aspects of

  744. your life from God, if you're sick of

  745. living a double life, if you're sick of

  746. running, of sin ruining your times with

  747. God, your connection with God, your joy

  748. in your life, your peace in your life,

  749. you're sick of dry, flat times in the

  750. presence of God, this morning, let's

  751. surrender it all to God this morning.

  752. team is going to lead us in a song. I am

  753. going to we're going to stand and we're

  754. just going to have a moment of response.

  755. And how that looks to you is entire to

  756. you because the Holy Spirit leads and

  757. guides each individual person. Can I say

  758. in my life and how I do it with God and

  759. how I respond to these tough challenges

  760. is is I often often will feel in my

  761. heart to get out of my seat and come to

  762. the front. Not because it means anything

  763. to anyone else, but it means so much to

  764. me because it feels like I am physically

  765. doing something. I am getting up out of

  766. my current circumstances.

  767. I sit I'm in my current circumstances

  768. here and when I take these steps of

  769. faith, it's like I am stepping out of my

  770. current circumstances and I'm stepping

  771. into the will of God. I know this is

  772. hard for so many people here because

  773. other people they might see that you are

  774. a normal human being. Oh my gosh. But I

  775. know for me in my life when God has

  776. challenged me when I when I take these

  777. seven to 20 steps out of my seat and I

  778. walk up in humility and I come to the

  779. front and often you'll see me kneeling.

  780. I was kneeling before the the sermon

  781. because of something in my heart and I

  782. was kneeling. I come and God I just

  783. surrender it back to God. cuz I know

  784. this is the best thing for me is because

  785. my connection with God is so precious to

  786. me.

  787. So precious to me. And my encouragement

  788. this morning during this song is is I

  789. surrender all or I Holy Spirit for

  790. whatever song they're going to do. I

  791. can't tell from the music, but whatever

  792. it is and I don't know songs very well

  793. anyway.

  794. My encouragement for you, those online,

  795. those in the mezzanine, those in the

  796. back, those in the left, those in the

  797. right, those in the front row. Doesn't

  798. matter who you are. Doesn't matter what

  799. other people will think. This is a

  800. moment between you and God, not between

  801. you and your neighbor. This is not

  802. between you and the church. This is

  803. between you and God. If there

  804. are things in your heart that God is

  805. putting his finger on in a sense this

  806. morning, my encouragement to you this

  807. morning is step into that pain. Step

  808. into that humility. Step into that

  809. moment. Step out of your seats and come

  810. to the front and just kneel. Stand.

  811. Look, I'm probably going to be crying

  812. with you. It's okay. The tears are right

  813. here with me. Ugly cry. We got tissues

  814. up the front. It's okay. Someone will

  815. hand them to you. But take a moment this

  816. morning

  817. so that you can leave this morning

  818. going, "I am free.

  819. >> I am free.

  820. I am truly truly free this morning."

  821. Because when we are truly honest and

  822. truly confess God is faithful and true

  823. and will forgive.

  824. Can I just say as we one last group of

  825. people I I didn't mention this morning,

  826. but if you've come into here this

  827. morning and you don't have an active and

  828. a real relationship with God and you've

  829. heard all the talk of sin and you're

  830. like, "Oh, that's probably me." Can I

  831. say that Jesus not only died for your

  832. sins, but he died so that you can have a

  833. life filled with joy, peace, and a

  834. connection with him. And that starts

  835. with you confessing your wrongs and his

  836. rights. And if that's you this morning,

  837. I would love to pray with you. I'm just

  838. going to be down here on my left, your

  839. right. I don't care who you are, how

  840. long you've been coming, but I will

  841. stand here and I will be willing to pray

  842. for anyone, all of you, whoever you want

  843. to be prayed for, but I want to lead you

  844. into relationship with Christ because it

  845. is a it is a personal decision, but it's

  846. not a private decision. And God calls us

  847. to be a part of a family. So, if that's

  848. you here this morning, I encourage you

  849. down here, guys. Guys, I don't care if

  850. no one comes at the front. My life is

  851. good. I am free. But I'm going to

  852. encourage you this morning. If there is

  853. something in your heart, do not leave

  854. this place saying I will do it later in

  855. the privacy of my home. This is

  856. basically saying no.

  857. If God is stirring something in your

  858. heart this morning and there is a

  859. conviction or some will describe it

  860. awake or your heart's pounding, there's

  861. feels like fire, something's tingling.

  862. All these sorts of experiences are true.

  863. But if there is a something in that that

  864. is God is stirring in your heart. Can I

  865. encourage you this morning? Have the

  866. courage, have the conviction, the belief

  867. system, the unshakable belief that God

  868. is a good father and he's going to do

  869. something in my life up here in this

  870. front. Thank you. Why don't we stand to

  871. our feet, church? I think the lights are

  872. going to go down a little bit lower and

  873. I'm going to hand over to Joy and Jess

  874. is going to come wrap us up when when

  875. she feels ready. Con we take a moment as

  876. I just Holy Spirit we just invite you

  877. into this place.

  878. Holy Spirit we every life every every

  879. person in this place is so important to

  880. you. Holy Spirit we just pray right now

  881. those words in John 16 verse8 you would

  882. convict us of the sin in our lives. You

  883. would convict us of what righteousness

  884. means. Lord, you will convict us that

  885. you've already paid the judgment and

  886. there is no judgment for us when we

  887. confess our sins to you. So this

  888. morning, we open our hearts, our lives,

  889. and give us the courage to respond to

  890. you. Not to me, to you, Jesus, this

  891. morning. Come on, church. Why don't we

  892. just worship and respond as you feel

  893. led? Thanks, Joy.
