  14. Sue, listen to me. Stand up. Audrey,

  15. Jarusha, you were in the kitchen. Were

  16. there any girls on our um dance at the

  35. desires of their heart as they have

  36. given so much to us as ladies this

  37. weekend. I pray that you meet them, that

  38. you bless them. In Jesus' name I pray.

  39. Amen.

  40. >> Amen.

  41. All right, let me get my notes out.

  42. So, um, 20 20 plus years ago, Aaron and

  43. I, we've been married for a year. And

  44. during that first year of marriage,

  45. actually, we planned an amazing trip

  46. around Europe. And it took us all year

  47. as we planned it. And um we had

  48. everything. It was a lot of fun just

  49. like figuring out where we're going to

  50. go and where we're going to stay and

  51. different um things we're going to do at

  52. each destination. And um I probably took

  53. it one step further and I had it all in

  54. a spreadsheet because I love a good

  55. spreadsheet. And I had it all budgeted

  56. exactly what we would spend each day

  57. like on food, accommodation, travel,

  58. activities. It was down to the tea of

  59. exactly what we would do. There was no

  60. room. There was no wiggle room. But we

  61. got to our last destination, Rome, and

  62. we were staying at an accommodation

  63. place probably about 20 minutes outside

  64. of Ren. It was kind of like a a little

  65. bit of a holiday park type vibe. It was

  66. quite cool. And um we got to the

  67. reception desk, checked in, and then it

  68. was like this lovely little lane down to

  69. where all the accommodation places was.

  70. I remember the first place I I went to,

  71. I saw the bathroom, the abolution block

  72. there, and it was amazing. It was all

  73. marble, like there was no other

  74. material. It was all marble. There was a

  75. um a fountain, a marble fountain in the

  76. middle of the bathroom block. It was

  77. incredible. My expectations were up

  78. here. It was amazing. And as we kind of

  79. walked down and down and down this lane,

  80. the accommodations just got a little bit

  81. worse and worse and worse until we got

  82. to our accommodation. And it was this

  83. kind of porticcomicom type cabin at the

  84. end and um with two rooms with bunk beds

  85. and these really skinny mattresses and

  86. um they'd obviously been airing the room

  87. out cuz you walked in and it was black

  88. with bugs. There was just the ceiling

  89. was just thick with bugs and um and

  90. there was one toilet and sink in between

  91. the two rooms, but you you could smell

  92. the toilets before before you got there.

  93. it would you just wouldn't use it. You'd

  94. go to the marble toilets down the road.

  95. And um and then the other room was being

  96. used by, let's just say, three European

  97. lads who um the the mess was just kind

  98. of spilling out the room. And they

  99. stayed up till I think about 3:00 a.m.

  100. in the morning talking and chatting and

  101. drinking and all that stuff. And we

  102. didn't get a lot of sleep. It wasn't a

  103. lot of fun. So we reworked the budget

  104. the next morning. We thought we can't do

  105. this. And we'd seen those other um

  106. cabins. There was no air con. There was

  107. no fan. It was stinking hot. It was it

  108. was June. It was stinking hot in um in

  109. Europe. And so we we reworked the budget

  110. the next morning. And we're like, "No,

  111. we can do this. We can get an upgrade.

  112. We can go for that aircon room with the

  113. TV." I don't think we'd had a TV the

  114. whole way around. And we were just so

  115. excited to go out, explore Rome for the

  116. day, get back, put our feet up in the

  117. air con and watch some TV as you do. Um

  118. and so we went to the reception. They

  119. said, "Yeah, sure, Mr. and Mrs. Moore.

  120. That's fine. we'll have your room ready

  121. for you when you come back from your day

  122. in Rome. So off we went to Rome and and

  123. we were that day we were um in St.

  124. Peter's Square in the Vatican and you

  125. know there's heaps of queuing and it's

  126. really hot and I remember there were

  127. some steps to go up to look down onto

  128. the St. Peter Square and we like should

  129. we or shouldn't we like people were

  130. fainting in the heat of there was like a

  131. heat wave thing happening you know and

  132. um and so we're like no we can do it

  133. because we're going back to that air

  134. conditioned room we got the promiser air

  135. conditioned room right so we can do this

  136. we climbed those steps we did the view

  137. we got back to the accommodation place

  138. and Aaron said you go and pack the bags

  139. and I'll go get the key sweet so I went

  140. down and then about a few minutes later

  141. he followed me back to the room we were

  142. staying in and without te and he said

  143. there was no room. They've made a

  144. mistake and there's no room for us. They

  145. they they didn't take the booking or

  146. something something's happened but there

  147. was there was no key and so there was a

  148. little bit of tension between us. We've

  149. been married a year

  150. and um I was like what what do you mean

  151. there's no key? There has to be a key.

  152. had promised us this new room and um

  153. we'd been looking forward to it so much

  154. that day. We were exhausted, we were

  155. hot, we were tired, we just wanted that

  156. room. And so Aaron said, "Fine, you go

  157. talk to them then if you don't believe

  158. me, you know." And so I I'm I'm usually

  159. quite a nice person.

  160. I don't like conflict. I don't, you

  161. know, but that day got me and I stormed

  162. down that lane to the reception area. I

  163. think the woman saw me coming

  164. and I stormed in and and said, you know,

  165. we we we booked this and she kind of she

  166. stopped at the reception desk and she

  167. looks like this and she just looks at me

  168. and and I was kind of a bit confused and

  169. she goes, "You look like somebody." And

  170. I was and then this is kind of in an

  171. Italian accent as well. though. And she

  172. goes, "H,

  173. you look like Renee Zelwigger."

  174. And I was like, "What?

  175. What's Renee Zelwigger got to do with

  176. anything? Come on." And she goes, "You

  177. are, aren't you? You're Renee

  178. Zilwigger."

  179. And I must admit, I I, you know, I'm a

  180. good Christian pastor's wife. I don't

  181. lie. But I didn't say no.

  182. I just smiled. at her because I was a

  183. little bit confused as well. And um she

  184. said she looked down at her her book and

  185. she was like, "Yeah, yeah, we do have a

  186. room for you. That's right." And she

  187. gave me the key.

  188. Yes. So I walked back to Aaron quite

  189. proud of myself and said, "Here's the

  190. key. Let's go to that air conditioned

  191. room." It was so good. The um Yeah. Our

  192. theme of replenish conference is um that

  193. his promises are yes and amen. And we've

  194. got a scripture we're going to put up

  195. there. Got a scripture coming. Um 2

    2 Corinthians 1:20

  196. Corinthians 1:20 says, "For all God's

  197. promises," it's gone from up on the wall

  198. there. Oh, with a resound um Okay, I'm

  199. facing this way. For all of God's

  200. promises have been fulfilled in Christ

  201. with a resounding yes and through Christ

  202. our amen which means yes ascends to God

  203. for his glory. So my message today is

  204. waiting between the in between in

  205. between the yes and the amen because um

  206. it was only a day that we waited

  207. for that promise to um be fulfilled of

  208. an air conditioned room. But I know that

  209. for some people there's a long painful

  210. gap between that yes and the amen. You

  211. see in that verse when um it talks about

  212. the yes. The promises of God are yes.

  213. And we've got this huge big Bible on the

  214. stage here. It's pretty chunky. And if

  215. you find a promise in there, it is

  216. always yes. God's promises are always

  217. yes. There is no doubt in that. They are

  218. there in the Bible and they are yes. But

  219. that amen part that sometimes that's

  220. about us. That's about the waiting.

  221. That's about us coming in line with his

  222. promises. And sometimes there is a gap

  223. between that yes and that amen.

  224. See, I got the promise fairly quickly

  225. that day with a little bit of false

  226. recognition. Um it still doesn't help

  227. those of us who are left waiting for

  228. their promise. So, my message is about

  229. how do we respond in the waiting?

  230. Let's get into the Bible. Huh? Um, I

  231. sometimes think, what if I were a

  232. disciple walking with Jesus each day of

  233. his ministry? At what point would I have

  234. realized that Jesus is the Messiah

  235. talked about for generations past? Would

  236. there have been behind the-do

  237. conversations with other disciples

  238. wondering too, trying to fit all the

  239. pieces together? or would it just feel

  240. so foreign that the Messiah would want

  241. to hang out with me?

  242. Peter realized and was bold enough to

  243. profess when Jesus asked his disciples,

  244. "But what about you? Who do you say I

  245. am?" And Peter answers, "You are the

  246. Messiah." I mean, what a moment that

  247. would have been. Imagine being there

  248. when it was professed, Jesus, you are

  249. the desire. Yet shortly after complete

  250. disappointment as Jesus hung on the

  251. cross in what seemed like story over.

  252. All that they had hoped that you know

  253. that that that Jesus would bring change

  254. to the world would restore hope and make

  255. everything right. Instead it seemed like

  256. another story of promise ending in

  257. disappointment. Does this sound familiar

  258. to you? what hopes, dreams, ideas you've

  259. had have ended in disappointment or had

  260. not panned out the way that perhaps you

  261. thought they would.

  262. Some of us may cling to the scripture

  263. that he will do exceedingly abundantly

  264. more than we could ever think or dream

  265. of. And that is great. Yet also, we're

  266. humans and in our human nature, the very

  267. human feelings of frustration

  268. unfold. Again,

  269. the truth is God always wins. He always

  270. claims the victory.

  271. We um we had an amazing testimony

  272. yesterday on session four of um

  273. replenish. Anna shared about her and

  274. Kyle's um story of infertility and the

  275. the really real

  276. really really real feelings of

  277. frustration of anger and everything that

  278. went through that and it was beautiful

  279. to listen to that and um but as we heard

  280. actually she started with with the

  281. victory that God um God claimed the

  282. victory in the end.

  283. You see, I could never try to outthink

  284. God of how a situation is going to work

  285. out because he's way too creative and

  286. out of the box for me.

  287. Maybe I just need to give it all to God.

  288. >> So, how do we sit and wait for the

  289. promise? Well, I have three P's. P for

  290. promise. Three Ps. Okay. So, number one,

  291. perceive or recognize that Jesus is

  292. Lord. Matthew 16:156-16

  293. says, "But what about you?" He asked,

  294. "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter

  295. answered, "You are the Messiah, the son

  296. of the living God." You see, in my story

  297. of being falsely recognized as Renee

  298. Zelwiger, it led to the promise of an

  299. airon room. And my discomfort was

  300. removed.

  301. The disciples, they recognized that

  302. their rabbi, their teacher was far more

  303. than that. He was the Messiah.

  304. Imagine that moment when it suddenly

  305. dawned on them. when the scriptures they

  306. studied came to life that they

  307. understood that the Messiah was Jesus.

  308. The promise of salvation, the promise of

  309. his spirit living within us is the

  310. greatest of all. Before anything else,

  311. we need to recognize we need to

  312. acknowledge and perceive that Jesus

  313. Christ is Lord. Point one. Point two, we

  314. need to position ourselves with Christ.

  315. Mark 3:14 says, "He appointed 12 that

    Mark 3:14

  316. they might be with him and that he might

  317. send them out."

  318. So, um, yeah, the disciples, they

  319. positioned themselves for Christ for

  320. three years before they truly realized

  321. who he was. We already know who he is.

  322. We've seen what he did on the cross and

  323. his resurrection, but we need to learn

  324. to walk with him as the disciples did.

  325. So, how does that look like? How do you

  326. position how do we position ourselves

  327. with Christ as as the disciples did?

  328. Matthew 4:19 it says come follow me and

    Matthew 4:19

  329. I'll make you fishes of men. So that's

  330. the first thing we need to do. We need

  331. to answer the call to follow him.

  332. Secondly um the disciples they observed

  333. Jesus' character, his maturity, his

  334. prayer life. They observed that he was

  335. sinless, that he had no sin and they

  336. imitated him as much as they could in

  337. their human nature. Their desire was to

  338. be sinless, too. 2 Corinthians 5:21

    2 Corinthians 5:21

  339. says, "God made him who had no sin to be

  340. sin for us so that in him we might

  341. become the righteousness of God."

  342. Thirdly, they sat under Jesus' teaching.

  343. They opened the scripture, the Torah

  344. together, and studied the word of God.

  345. And I'm sure they would have done this

  346. every single day probably. I like to

  347. think around a bit of a campfire. Um

  348. this weekend over replenish we have

  349. pulled out so many promises that are in

  350. the Bible. We had these stations all

  351. around the church. We got to have a good

  352. look around the church, don't we ladies?

  353. And um there were Bible verses at each

  354. and every station declaring the promises

  355. that are spoken over us. And my hope is

  356. that there would have been one or two of

  357. those that really resonated with ladies

  358. over this weekend. Number four, they

  359. lived life together. Interestingly, that

  360. is the catchphrase of our church life

  361. groups. Bit of a plug there. They were

  362. there for each other in the daily grind

  363. of life.

  364. Jesus chose 12 knowing he would speak

  365. into each of their lives. Who are your

  366. 12? Who speaks into your life? Whose

  367. lives do you speak into?

  368. And number five, they served others. I

  369. love this. They didn't position

  370. themselves for prestige, but they

  371. demonstrated selfless love by prior

  372. prioritizing others needs.

  373. So that's how we position ourselves with

  374. Jesus. And thirdly, my third point is

  375. that we posture. We posture ourselves

  376. before Christ. Psalm 95:6 says, "Oh

    Psalms 95:6

  377. come, let us worship and bow down. Let

  378. us kneel before the Lord our maker."

  379. If positioning ourselves is an outward

  380. expression in our actions to receive the

  381. promises of God, then our third P that

  382. of posture is an inward expression or

  383. alignment of our heart and our will.

  384. This is more than a physical position.

  385. It is about how we approach him. In

  386. Matthew 28:16-17,

    Matthew 28:16–17

  387. it says, "When Jesus returned and gave

  388. the great commission to his disciples,

  389. when they first truly recognized him as

  390. the Messiah, they bowed down and they

  391. worshiped him." The Bible talks about

  392. four different types of postures that

  393. I'm going to run through. Some of these

  394. postures might be comfortable to you.

  395. you're used to being in that place of

  396. posture and others might be not so

  397. comfortable. Um, the first one I have is

  398. lifting your hands. This one is quite

  399. familiar to me if I'm honest. Um, it's

  400. an outward expression of openness. It's

  401. praising God's greatness and releasing

  402. control to him. It is an act or

  403. expression of surrendering everything to

  404. him.

  405. In 1 Timothy 2:8, Paul tells Timothy,

    1 Timothy 2:8

  406. "Therefore, I want the men in every

  407. place to pray, lifting up holy hands."

  408. Another type of posture is kneeling or

  409. bowing, symbolizing submission of your

  410. will to his, acknowledging his lordship

  411. over your life. It is an act of

  412. humility.

  413. In Acts 21:5, Paul says, "When it was

    Acts 21:5

  414. time to leave, we left and continued on

  415. our way. and all of them, including

  416. wives and children, accompanied us out

  417. of the city. And there on the beach, we

  418. knelt and we prayed together.

  419. A third type of posture is being still

  420. and silent before God.

  421. This allows you to focus on his presence

  422. and recognize that he is God. You're

  423. being reverent to him. Of course, a

  424. favorite scripture is Psalm 46:10. be

    Psalms 46:10

  425. still and know that I am God. And

  426. sometimes in the chaos around us, in the

  427. noise of life, we just need to take time

  428. to be still and silent in his presence.

  429. And fourthly,

  430. my last posture I'm going to share today

  431. is lying prostrate with your face to the

  432. ground.

  433. This acknowledges your unworthiness,

  434. your brokenness, your total dependence

  435. on his mercy.

  436. When we are succumbed by him and we are

  437. overwhelmed by his greatness, scripture

  438. tells us that when the wise men first

  439. saw Jesus in his mother's arms, they

  440. fell down and worshiped him completely

  441. overwhelmed by his greatness.

  442. Um,

  443. a few a few probably about six weeks

  444. ago, I um, God was teaching me some

  445. things and I dropped my boys off at

  446. youth on a Friday night and I was

  447. already in my Friday night lounging

  448. clothes if I'm honest. I didn't want to

  449. see anyone. I just wanted to drop them

  450. off, get out of there and and then I

  451. remembered I needed to get something

  452. from the office and I was like, it's

  453. okay. I can just still just park down

  454. here. Don't need to see anyone. Just

  455. quickly go up, get it, get it. And then

  456. as I got to the door, I realized I'd

  457. left my phone on the charger at home and

  458. now everything is by the app on your

  459. phone to get into this place. And I was

  460. like, "Oh, darn it. Okay, I can do this.

  461. Just keep my head down. Don't make any

  462. eye contact." I'll run through those

  463. doors there where the youth will come in

  464. and I'll quickly scoot around up the

  465. stairs out. No one will see me. Just

  466. don't make eye contact, Sarah. It'll be

  467. okay.

  468. And so I'm I'm pretty sure that Lou and

  469. um Grace were maybe I didn't see because

  470. I kept my head down at the door checking

  471. checking youth in. And then there was

  472. all these youth sitting around the

  473. couches there. I don't know how it

  474. happened but I walked in quickly came

  475. around one foot went out and I ended up

  476. on one knee. Now I must say it was quite

  477. gracious. I was quite proud of myself.

  478. It was beautiful moments of just this

  479. whoosh down on one knee, but all these

  480. young people I just remember looking up

  481. and they all kind of went, "Are you

  482. okay, old lady?"

  483. And so I quickly picked myself up, kind

  484. of went and just walked on and um got my

  485. stuff, got out of there. What was that

  486. about? And I looked back and there was

  487. nothing on the floor. It wasn't like it

  488. was even wet. I didn't even know how I'd

  489. done it. But I went down on one knee.

  490. And then about a week 10 days later, I

  491. was at my ladies life group. I love my

  492. ladies life group. And um we were we

  493. watched the video on the on the TV and

  494. then we go into discussion questions,

  495. but I needed to go to the bathroom. So I

  496. jumped up and I said, "Just go to the

  497. lady to the bathroom ladies." And I

  498. where we meet at Helen's um house, she's

  499. kind of got like the sunken lounge, you

  500. know, like three steps down into the

  501. lounge. And so I jumped up and I Oh my

  502. gosh, I don't know what I did. I got my

  503. big right toe stuck in the other trails

  504. leg

  505. as I'm going up the stairs

  506. and I ended up thump on the top of these

  507. three steps. And it was not gracious

  508. this time. It was an almighty thud down.

  509. It was so loud. Well, it felt like it to

  510. me. And um and all the ladies were then

  511. behind me and I just heard this and I

  512. was like, "Oh my gosh." And I jumped up

  513. really quick. I said, "I'm fine. I'm

  514. fine. I'm fine." And I wasn't hurt my

  515. knee a bit, but I was like, you know,

  516. "I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm fine. I've got

  517. to go to the toilets." And I ran out to

  518. the bathroom and I sat on the toilet and

  519. I just went, "Oh my gosh, what is wrong

  520. to with me? Why do I keep falling on my

  521. knees?" And at that moment sitting on

  522. the toilets in Helen's bathroom, God

  523. spoke to me and said, "Because I'm

  524. telling you, Sarah, you need to get down

  525. on your knees and worship me." And um so

  526. that was a moment in my life where God

  527. has been speaking to me about my posture

  528. that I need to get on my knees more and

  529. um symbolizing that submission and and

  530. as an act of humility. Um, that's

  531. somewhere where where God is speaking to

  532. me. But how about you? What's God

  533. speaking to you about? Where is God

  534. asking you to posture your heart? Where

  535. is he asking you to um move past your

  536. comfort zone where you're comfortable

  537. posturing yourself and move into that

  538. next area? You see, my message in

  539. between the yes and the amen. There's no

  540. magical formula to receive your promise.

  541. Not even a Renee Zelwagger lookalike

  542. apparently 20 years ago like me has the

  543. magical formula for that. But what it

  544. is, it's an invitation to consider your

  545. actions, your positioning, and to

  546. consider your heart, your posture.

  547. I'm going to finish this message now if

  548. um maybe the music team want to head up.

  549. Um, and we're going to finish with a

  550. song and an invitation to perceive, to

  551. position, and to posture your heart

  552. before God.

  553. Now, this will look different to

  554. everyone

  555. at the foot of the cross over here.

  556. We're going to have a an opportunity for

  557. you. If your first step is that you need

  558. to accept Jesus into your heart and you

  559. need to to say that repentance prayer

  560. and acknowledge that he is Lord of your

  561. life, then we're going to have um

  562. leaders down here who would love to lead

  563. you to Jesus. All you need to do is

  564. during our time of worship come out of

  565. your st your seats and come down the

  566. front and they will lead you through

  567. that prayer. They would be privileged to

  568. do that.

  569. Um

  570. during your worship, you may want to ask

  571. God, what are ways you can position

  572. yourself for the promise? Is there

  573. something that I need to do? Is there

  574. someone that I need to forgive to

  575. position yourself

  576. to receive that promise? What action do

  577. I need to take? Ask God that and I'm

  578. sure he will speak to you. And thirdly,

  579. you may may need to posture yourself in

  580. order to allow God to do the unthinkable

  581. in your circumstances.

  582. Posturing yourself in sacrifice to let

  583. God take control. Posturing yourself

  584. simply to be in his presence. And so

  585. we're going to have a time as we sing

  586. that you can come down the front and

  587. posture yourselves however you feel that

  588. God is calling you to or even in your

  589. seats if you just want to stand in awe

  590. of him. That's absolutely fine.

  591. But I encourage you to to talk to God

  592. during this moment and ask him what what

  593. is your next steps.

  594. No one's going to come and pray for you

  595. up the front. It's just a time between

  596. you and God.

  597. May you be blessed as you posture

  598. yourself in his presence.
