  1. so you're in the market to buy a new

  2. house like good for you glad you can

  3. afford one um so you've uh set your

  4. non-negotiables you know it's got to

  5. like have a hot tub in the backyard it's

  6. got to have so many acres it's got to be

  7. in such and such a school district it's

  8. you set your price point you got all

  9. your information ahead of time so you

  10. pull up to the curb with the realer and

  11. you look at the house from the curb and

  12. you tell the realtor "I'll take it." And

  13. the realtor's like "Don't you want to go

  14. in first and like make sure it has all

  15. the stuff that you want?" You're like

  16. "Nope I'll just take the house where do

  17. I sign?" No one's going to do that when

  18. they're buying a house but unfortunately

  19. a lot of us do that with our salvation

  20. we do that with Jesus we're just like

  21. "Okay I I trust you with my eternal

  22. salvation but I don't even know who you

  23. are." So this sermon is designed to

  24. teach you what you believe because it's

  25. my conviction that every believer

  26. whether you're a a seasoned adult or

  27. whether you are a teenager or even a

  28. child every believer should have a

  29. defense or an answer for why they have

  30. placed their faith in Jesus look I don't

  31. want you to believe just because your

  32. your parents told you that Jesus is the

  33. only way i don't want you to believe

  34. just because your grandparents told you

  35. that Jesus is the only way to heaven i

  36. don't want you to believe just because

  37. your pastor told you that Jesus is the

  38. only way to heaven now kudos to all

  39. those people for telling you the truth

  40. but you can't inherit somebody else's

  41. faith and so what I want you to be able

  42. to do is actually have an argument for

  43. why you believe what you believe this is

  44. a four-part sermon really uh it's going

  45. to go through the whole month of April

  46. uh we're going to start off with some

  47. like statist some uh history today uh

  48. and then we're going to move into

  49. something uh a little bit more powerful

  50. as we move through the month of April

  51. but what it's designed to do is help you

  52. establish a faith-based response to the

  53. gospel that's more in line with the

  54. biblical definition of faith which we

  55. will learn in Hebrews

    Hebrews 11:1

  56. 11:1 which says "Now faith is the

  57. reality of what is hoped for it is the

  58. proof of what is not seen so I want to

  59. give you some reality and I want to give

  60. you some proof that Jesus is who he says

  61. he is so let's pray and then we'll get

  62. started father as we open your word as

  63. we look at some historical evidence for

  64. the existence of Jesus I pray that those

  65. who receive this message would be

  66. encouraged in their faith that they

  67. would begin to put together an

  68. apologetic or a an argument for why they

  69. believe what they believe and for others

  70. Lord maybe this is the first time

  71. they've actually thought about the fact

  72. that Jesus may or may not be real and so

  73. I pray Lord that today through this

  74. evidence that they will see that you

  75. will draw them closer to you and help

  76. them to see that faith is not something

  77. they can just inherit from their friends

  78. or their family faith is something that

  79. they have to come to on their own and so

  80. Lord I pray that you would give them

  81. through the power of your Holy Spirit uh

  82. a reality check about who you are so

  83. they can be confident on who they're

  84. building their life around it's in Jesus

  85. name I pray amen give a shout out to

  86. Pastor John McKenzie at Hope Fellowship

  87. and also Josh McDow who wrote the book

  88. New Evidence that Demands a Verdict for

  89. uh giving a lot of the information that

  90. you'll be receiving today so first of

  91. all we got to talk about the question of

  92. Jesus because there are people outside

  93. the faith that will tell you that Jesus

  94. was just a good idea in fact most of our

  95. universities in this country if you take

  96. any kind of religion class they will

  97. tell you that the Jesus that we study

  98. from the Bible is more akin to a myth or

  99. a legend than a real person who actually

  100. existed and so we need to be able to

  101. answer this question is there historical

  102. evidence that Jesus really lived the

  103. life that the Bible says that he lived

  104. apart from the Bible okay so I'm not

  105. throwing out the Bible as evidence i

  106. mean that wouldn't make any sense like

  107. if you're studying George Washington you

  108. wouldn't just throw out all the

  109. English-speaking American authors

  110. because they were too close to George to

  111. be able to write a story about him right

  112. so you wouldn't do that when studying

  113. any other historical figure so I'm not

  114. going to do that with Jesus either

  115. however I do believe that it is edifying

  116. for us to look at sources outside of the

  117. Bible that prove that Jesus is who he

  118. says that he is so have you ever heard

  119. of

  120. Confucious really have you ever heard of

  121. Socrates plato not Plato

  122. plato

  123. Aristotle have you heard of Muhammad

  124. alexander the Great maybe William

  125. Wallace braveheart you've heard of these

  126. people do you believe they were

  127. real well here's the deal there is more

  128. historical evidence that Jesus is real

  129. than there is for all of those people

  130. combined there are secular authorities

  131. on the evidence of Jesus that we're

  132. going to look at today they're going to

  133. be on the screen they're also in your

  134. notes and uh if you want to go back and

  135. do your own research on this I would

  136. encourage you to do so but I do want to

  137. walk through these uh with you today

  138. first of all we have Cornelius Tactus he

  139. was the first century Roman historian he

  140. wrote a book called Annals and in his

  141. book not not he's not a Christian but in

  142. his book he says that Christians were

  143. followers of Christ which would be short

  144. for Christ or Jesus and he says who was

  145. executed by Pontius Pilate during the

  146. reign of Tiberius he says they existed

  147. separate of the Jews and that the

  148. emperor Nero blamed them for the fire

  149. that took place in 64 AD we have Lucian

  150. of Samosota and death of the paragine he

  151. wrote that Christians believe that they

  152. are immortal immortal for all time which

  153. he saw as the reason for Christians

  154. contempt of death and self-devotion he

  155. also notes that Christians consider

  156. themselves brothers from the time of

  157. their conversion he says that they

  158. denied the Greek gods and that they

  159. worship a crucified sage we have

  160. Satonius in lives of the 12 Caesars in

  161. an account of Emperor Claudius he

  162. mentions that Claudius expelled the Jews

  163. from Rome because they were causing

  164. disturbances at the instigation of a man

  165. named Christ in his account of Emperor

  166. Nero he mentions that Nero punished

  167. Christians because he saw them as a

  168. group of quote new and mischievous

  169. superstition that's pretty cool pony the

  170. Younger he uh was the governor of

  171. Bethnia in Asia Minor this is like

  172. second century stuff and in his letter

  173. to Emperor Traan he asks him how many

  174. Christians the emperor wants him to kill

  175. basically because they were killing so

  176. many Christians that he's arguing that

  177. perhaps they should just kill the

  178. leaders of the Christians instead of all

  179. the Christians because they're having to

  180. kill so many people he then asks him if

  181. they recant from Christ if he could

  182. spare their lives and then he asks if

  183. the mention of Christianity alone is

  184. worth a punishment he also mentions that

  185. there was a man named Jesus that was

  186. crucified so Emperor Traan writes back

  187. to Pelony the Younger and he says "If

  188. the accused are found guilty of being a

  189. Christian then they must be punished."

  190. He says "If the accused deny that they

  191. are Christians and show proof that they

  192. are worshiping other gods then they will

  193. be spared or pardoned." Yep thalus this

  194. Roman historian in the first century

  195. wrote a three volume work of the history

  196. of the Mediterranean and in it he

  197. attempts to explain the darkness during

  198. Jesus crucifixion you remember when

  199. Jesus died on the cross and it said that

  200. darkness covered the whole land he he

  201. explains that he tries to explain that

  202. as some type of a celestial event rather

  203. than a supernatural event and then you

  204. have Fleon who was also a first century

  205. Roman historian that said the same thing

  206. there was a complete blackout when this

  207. man Jesus died on the cross and he was

  208. blaming it on a solar eclipse instead of

  209. a supernatural event then finally you

  210. have Mara Barerpion first century Syrian

  211. philosopher in a letter to his son he

  212. writes these words he says but Socrates

  213. did not die for good he lived on through

  214. the teaching of Plato for Pythagoras did

  215. not die for good he lived on in the

  216. statue of Hera nor did the wise king die

  217. for good because he lived on in the

  218. teachings which he had given later on in

  219. that letter he defines the wise king as

  220. the the king that the Jews had crucified

  221. pointing of course to Jesus then you

  222. have these Jewish references to Jesus

  223. remember the Jews did not believe Jesus

  224. was the son of God so this still counts

  225. as non-Christian evidence and in their

  226. Babylonian Talmet that it contains a lot

  227. of passages that portray Yeshua or Jesus

  228. as a sorcerer and an enticer who

  229. rightfully was executed on the eve of

  230. Passover for leading Israel astray and

  231. in the trackctate Sanhedrin page 43a it

  232. says Yeshua's execution on Passover Eve

  233. came with a herald proclaiming his

  234. crimes and calling for anyone with

  235. evidence to exonerate him remember how

  236. Pilate asked if there was any more

  237. evidence that would save Jesus and even

  238. offered a substitute for him because he

  239. did not think he was guilty then you

  240. have a man named Josephus first century

  241. Jewish historian recorded all the

  242. happenings in Rome and in in his book

  243. Antiquities of the Jews he mentions

  244. Jesus describing him as a wise man who

  245. performed surprising deeds a teacher who

  246. drew many Jews and Gentiles to him and a

  247. man that was crucified by Pilate all

  248. non-Christian sources talking about the

  249. same stuff that is in your Bible so why

  250. are we having this history lesson this

  251. morning here's why i went to Chick-fil-A

  252. on

  253. Friday smooth transition you like that i

  254. went to Chick-fil-A on Friday at 8:59 i

  255. pulled into their parking lot they

  256. closed at 9:00 so I saw one of the

  257. employees come out of the store as soon

  258. as I pulled into the parking lot and I'm

  259. like "Oh no she's not." because I saw

  260. her walk walking right toward that

  261. drive-thru entrance so I went as fast as

  262. I could around that turn and through the

  263. parking lot and right before I got to

  264. the drive-through entrance you know what

  265. she had the nerve to do she took that

  266. little yellow chain and locked it right

  267. in front of my car pray for her she's

  268. not a Christian she's working at

  269. Chick-fil-A i was like "Thanks a lot."

  270. She's like "My pleasure." I'm

  271. like drove around the building went to

  272. Burger King

  273. anyway access denied look the reason

  274. we're having this history lesson this

  275. morning is I do not want anyone in your

  276. life to be able to come and and talk to

  277. you about your faith and and

  278. metaphorically pull a yellow chain

  279. across your faith and lock you out from

  280. believing what you believe i want you to

  281. have solid biblical evidence i want you

  282. to know that the historical fact of

  283. Jesus and his crucifixion is

  284. absolutely undeniable in the writings of

  285. numerous hundreds even thousands of

  286. non-Christian sources but we also have

  287. some Christian authorities on the

  288. evidence of Jesus my favorite of all of

  289. them is the pre-New Testament Credle

  290. Confessions i had to write a thesis

  291. paper on this back when I was in

  292. seminary studied all of the early creeds

  293. these things are amazing because early

  294. on the apostles who dispersed after

  295. Jesus went back to heaven they went all

  296. over the world and they wanted to make

  297. sure factually that they taught people

  298. exactly the same doctrine and so before

  299. they dispersed they came up with what's

  300. known as the Apostles Creed so that when

  301. people came to Christ they would have to

  302. recite the Apostles Creed at the moment

  303. of their baptism and it just made sure

  304. everybody believed the same thing

  305. because we didn't have the New Testament

  306. written yet and so they needed this

  307. statement of faith in order to make sure

  308. we're all on the same page and in the

  309. first apostles creed which was said by

  310. people that were led to Jesus by the

  311. original apostles and the Apostle Paul

  312. this statement says this as you were

  313. being baptized you would say "I believe

  314. in God the Father Almighty creator of

  315. heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ his

  316. only son our Lord who was conceived by

  317. the Holy Spirit born by the Virgin Mary

  318. suffered under Pontious Pilate was

  319. crucified died and was buried he

  320. descended into hell and on the third day

  321. he rose again from the dead he ascended

  322. into heaven and is seated at the right

  323. hand of God the Father Almighty from

  324. there he will come to judge the living

  325. and the dead you have credle statements

  326. before the New Testament was ever

  327. written that showed the historical

  328. accuracy of your scripture you you have

  329. these New Testament documents we've

  330. talked about this before there are

  331. 5800 manuscripts written in Greek of the

  332. Bible the New Testament part of your

  333. Bible there are 10,000 Latin manuscripts

  334. there are 9,300 manuscripts written in

  335. completely uh different languages that

  336. all are used to translate your Bible

  337. into English so we know that this is the

  338. unified word of God there is more

  339. manuscript evidence for the Bible the

  340. New Testament part of the Bible being

  341. accurate and true than any other book in

  342. human history and it's not even close

  343. thousands of creeds thousands of

  344. documents that affirm the absolutely

  345. undeniable life death resurrection and

  346. ascension into heaven of Jesus Christ

  347. then you have the

  348. post-apocalyptic writers the the people

  349. that that the Apostle Paul and the other

  350. apostles led to the Lord that became

  351. leaders in the very first churches you

  352. got guys like Clement of Rome Ignatius

  353. Cuadraius uh Barnabas Aristades Justin

  354. Martyr these are all first generation

  355. church leaders that put their lives on

  356. the line and even died for their faith

  357. to affirm the absolutely undeniable

  358. truth of the life death resurrection and

  359. ascension of Jesus you have guys like

  360. Microbius in the fifth century and his

  361. Satanella recounts that King Herod

  362. ordered the execution of young boys in

  363. Bethlehem because he was scared that the

  364. new king was being born in Bethlehem

  365. exactly what your Bible teaches we have

  366. guys like Thomas Pas Antonius Pas he he

  367. received a letter from Justin Marty

  368. mentioning that Jesus was the son of God

  369. who taught Christians you have juvenile

  370. coolest name in scripture juvenile the

  371. OG juvenile uh it was among those who

  372. affirmed the union of the two natures of

  373. Jesus divine and the human coming

  374. together without separation or or

  375. mixture 100% God 100% man explain that

  376. you have Cynica who lived during the

  377. time of Jesus and he wrote all about the

  378. teachings of Jesus on living a virtuous

  379. life and how that impacted his life you

  380. got Herokles who criticized Jesus

  381. portraying him as a gang leader with

  382. uneducated followers who tried to

  383. discredit Jesus miracles not by saying

  384. them that the miracles weren't true but

  385. by saying that there were other great

  386. feats performed by the Greek gods that

  387. were more impressive than what Jesus was

  388. doing here's the point of that history

  389. lesson anyone who says there's not

  390. enough historical evidence for Jesus is

  391. absolutely positively wrong here's

  392. another way of saying that it takes more

  393. faith to deny the existence of the

  394. historical Jesus than it does to believe

  395. the scripture and to believe the other

  396. documents that we have about

  397. him howard Marshall says it this way he

  398. says it is impossible to explain the

  399. rise of the Christian church or the

  400. writings of the gospels and the stream

  401. of tradition that lies behind them

  402. without accepting the fact that the

  403. founder of Christianity actually existed

  404. there is a historical figure named Jesus

  405. and he is absolutely historically

  406. undeniable but there's a problem with

  407. him there's a problem with Jesus and the

  408. problem is the claims that Jesus made

  409. see it's not too hard to convince people

  410. that the man Jesus actually existed and

  411. that he did all the things that he he

  412. said the Bible says that he did that's

  413. not a hard thing for any historian to

  414. uncover what's hard are the claims that

  415. Jesus makes this is what takes actual

  416. faith because Jesus in John

    John 14:6

  417. 14:6 says "I am the way i am the truth

  418. and I am the life and then he goes on to

  419. say that no one comes to the father

  420. nobody goes to heaven nobody is saved

  421. except through him and then he did stuff

  422. like in Markap

  423. 2:5 where it says "Seeing their faith

  424. Jesus told the paralytic son your sins

  425. are forgiven." But some of the scribes

  426. were sitting there questioning in their

  427. hearts why does he speak like this he is

  428. blaspheming because no one can forgive

  429. sins but God alone see there are people

  430. that struggle with the claims of Jesus

  431. to be the only way to forgiveness and

  432. the only way to eternal life the

  433. Sadducees and the Pharisees hated his

  434. teaching and this is what led him to be

  435. crucified by

  436. them so we had our directory pictures uh

  437. taken well I had mine taken on Saturday

  438. yesterday and uh everything was going

  439. great till I had to get my picture taken

  440. with my wife and so he tells me to sit

  441. right beside her on this stool and then

  442. uh he goes to the camera he grabs the

  443. camera then he puts the camera down

  444. without taking the picture and I'm like

  445. "Come on man." And he comes over to him

  446. he's like "Stand up real quick let me

  447. raise this stool so you'll be the same

  448. height as your wife." Right in front of

  449. a whole room full of people i'm like

  450. "Dude couldn't you be a little bit more

  451. discreet?" Then we go over to the place

  452. where you buy the pictures and the lady

  453. looks at me not not my daughter not my

  454. wife looks me right in the eye and says

  455. "Don't worry we can touch up any

  456. blemishes and even whiten your teeth."

  457. And I was like "Why don't you just get

  458. Channing Tatum to sit here beside my

  459. wife next time if that's what you want

  460. to do look it's fake it's fake." Okay

  461. but that's the way the Pharisees and the

  462. Sadducees saw the law so if you followed

  463. all of the the thousand commandments in

  464. the Old Testament they saw that as being

  465. externally clean they saw that as

  466. allowing you to be seen in the eyes of

  467. God as somebody that's worthy of

  468. salvation that this is how you earn your

  469. salvation and then Jesus comes along and

  470. he claims to be the only way to g to to

  471. God he's like "No the Jesus is like "No

  472. this this Old Testament this law this is

  473. to show you that you can't fulfill the

  474. law that there's no way that anyone

  475. could live a perfect life a sinless

  476. life." He says that this is like a

  477. mirror showing you the the the disease

  478. that you have the stain on your tie the

  479. showing you the sin in your life so that

  480. you'll know that you need a savior that

  481. you need the Messiah that you need faith

  482. and they hated him for saying that and

  483. they still hate Jesus

  484. today there's a lot of uh animosity I

  485. don't know if you've noticed outside the

  486. walls of this church when you talk about

  487. the the statements the claims that Jesus

  488. made to be the only way to

  489. heaven but this exclusivity that that

  490. people hate so much is not exclusivity

  491. it's actually the most inclusive

  492. exclusive statement that's ever been

  493. made in human history jesus said himself

  494. in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world

    John 3:16

  495. that he gave his only begotten son that

  496. some people who believe," what's it say

  497. that the rich people no that the good

  498. people no no no it says that whosoever

  499. believes that's everybody that the

  500. ground is level at the foot of the cross

  501. we're all at the foot of the cross we're

  502. all equal there anyone who wants to

  503. believe in Jesus can be saved you don't

  504. have to follow all the laws because you

  505. can't you don't have to do more good

  506. things than bad things because really

  507. you can't what Jesus is saying is that

  508. eternal life is available for all these

  509. claims are incredible forgiveness and

  510. eternal life they come from one

  511. source they're wonderful and they're

  512. undeniable

  513. but are they true see we can prove Jesus

  514. was the historical Jesus but can we

  515. actually prove truthfully that Jesus

  516. came back from the dead because that's

  517. the the crux of

  518. Christianity paul says if that's not

  519. true we should be pied more than any

  520. other group of people because we have

  521. been lied

  522. to if Jesus did not come back from the

  523. dead then all of this is a lie

  524. so what we need to do is we need to have

  525. faith we need to prove that Jesus came

  526. back from the dead well how do you do

  527. that well you take scripture you read it

  528. and you believe it or there's another

  529. way ask yourself this how did a small

  530. sect of people called

  531. Christians in a Roman world that was

  532. littered with literally thousands of

  533. religions thousands of gods this little

  534. group of when Jesus left around 120

  535. people how did their belief system

  536. spread around the world as fast as it

  537. did well the reason is the undeniable

  538. resurrection of

  539. Jesus ask yourself this why did the

  540. apostles go from these guys that are

  541. hiding in an upper room when Jesus had

  542. died because they think that they're

  543. next right they're hiding in an upper

  544. room and then all of the sudden they all

  545. die for their faith telling people about

  546. Jesus how did they go from cowards to

  547. courageous men just seemingly overnight

  548. the answer is they met the

  549. undeniable resurrected

  550. Jesus why were there so many Christians

  551. read the book of Hebrews why were there

  552. so many Christians that were willing to

  553. go to the grave for their

  554. faith the undeniable

  555. resurrection of Jesus

  556. i love this one james the the

  557. half-brother of Jesus he hated his

  558. brother so much for leaving the family

  559. business behind as the oldest in the

  560. family Jesus was supposed to take over

  561. for Joseph when Joseph died and we do

  562. believe that Joseph died relatively

  563. young because he kind of disappears from

  564. scripture even though we see Mary

  565. popping up all the time so Joseph is

  566. probably dead and Jesus is in charge of

  567. the family business and at 30 years old

  568. he walks away from it to go into

  569. ministry and his halfb brotherthers

  570. hated him for that they hated him so

  571. much that they did not even come to his

  572. crucifixion we know Mary was there and

  573. so Jesus asked the apostle John to take

  574. care of Mary in her time of of suffering

  575. in her time of bereiement because his

  576. brothers did not even show up but then

  577. James goes and writes books of the Bible

  578. what happened in that man's life to make

  579. him hate his brother so much that he

  580. wouldn't come to his crucifixion to

  581. being someone that writes books of the

  582. Bible proclaiming Jesus to be God's son

  583. the answer is simple it's the

  584. resurrection of Jesus that was

  585. undeniable he saw Jesus alive after he

  586. was dead ask yourself this too why did

  587. the Romans who wanted to snuff out

  588. Christianity why did they not just

  589. produce the body of dead Jesus that's

  590. all they had to do go open the tomb put

  591. the body of Jesus up front say "Look

  592. he's dead and the uprising is over." Why

  593. couldn't they do that any

  594. guesses because the tomb was empty you

  595. say "Well maybe the ro maybe the Roman

  596. soldiers were paid off to give the

  597. disciples the body of Jesus." If they

  598. were to lose the body that they were in

  599. charge of they would also lose their

  600. life there was no money on earth that

  601. was worth losing your life

  602. over if you're going to start a a cult

  603. or a false belief you would not start by

  604. allowing women to be the first witnesses

  605. of the resurrected Jesus not at this

  606. time in this culture because women had

  607. no rights they were treated about as

  608. equally as livestock back then so if

  609. you're the disciples and you want to

  610. convince everybody that Jesus is alive

  611. you would not allow the women to be the

  612. first ones to have testimony because

  613. they weren't even allowed to testify in

  614. court think about it how did the faith

  615. get all the way around the world to here

  616. in Camden County and the answer is that

  617. Jesus undeniably rose from the

  618. dead and here's where I want to end

  619. today so we have this historical Jesus

  620. it's very easy to prove that everything

  621. the Bible says is real and we have this

  622. this claim of Jesus to be God's son the

  623. only way to heaven the only way to

  624. forgiveness and salvation and we can

  625. prove that pretty well as as well apart

  626. from

  627. scripture but what was his mission what

  628. was his purpose well it says in

  629. Colossians that Colossians chapter 1

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  630. that he is the visible image of the

  631. invisible God so as God's representation

  632. when Jesus came to Earth it just blows

  633. my mind that when he walked onto this

  634. planet and saw just how badly we had

  635. messed things up it it blows my mind

  636. that he wouldn't just be like "All right

  637. it's time to get things in order it's

  638. time to get this fixed." Like I would

  639. picture Jesus coming to this earth and

  640. looking around at all the sin around him

  641. and grabbing a sword and just going to

  642. town right but he didn't come with a

  643. sword he came with an invitation in

  644. Matthew chapter

    Matthew 11 chapter mention

  645. 11 this is his invitation he says "Come

  646. to me all of you who are weary and

  647. burdened and I will give you rest." He

  648. says "Take my yoke upon you and learn

  649. from me because I am lowly and humble of

  650. heart and you will find rest for your

  651. souls for my yoke is easy and my burden

  652. is light." Jesus tells us that he came

  653. to fulfill the law to do for us what we

  654. could not do for ourselves to live a a

  655. perfect life that we could never live

  656. and to take our punishment on the cross

  657. our punishment for sin that we would

  658. never want to pay ourselves he says

  659. "Come to me all of you who are burdened

  660. by your sin and I'm going to teach you

  661. my ways." And by the way my ways are

  662. easy and light he's talking about your

  663. purpose your purpose is easy and it's

  664. light it's to love God and enjoy him

  665. forever so Jesus this undeniable

  666. historical figure who claimed to be

  667. God's son who claimed to be able to

  668. forgive sins who claimed to be the only

  669. way to truth and life said to us that we

  670. don't have to be perfect in order to be

  671. saved we just have to

  672. believe that's why the gospel is called

  673. good news

  674. all we have to do is believe in him

  675. jesus said all that he said and did all

  676. that he did so that we could find rest

  677. and we could find purpose that's the

  678. invitation he says "Come to me and allow

  679. me to lift the burden of your sin off of

  680. your shoulders and replace that with

  681. righteousness and give you this eternal

  682. life and then set you out on your

  683. mission which is to be the salt and the

  684. life the light in a broken world

  685. jesus and his claims are

  686. undeniably real so the question we're

  687. left with this morning is the thing we

  688. have to decide is are we going to accept

  689. his invitation or not so we're going to

  690. dig into this more over the next three

  691. weeks but today I just want to leave us

  692. with that thought are we going to accept

  693. the invitation of the historical Jesus

  694. who made these incredible claims are we

  695. going to accept the invitation of our

  696. undeniable Lord close your eyes for just

  697. a

  698. moment i want you to think about that

  699. question

  700. ask

  701. yourself if this is

  702. true if all these historical sources are

  703. to be

  704. trusted if all these claims are

  705. real if the world really did change that

  706. day when Jesus came back from the

  707. dead if that's the reality of the

  708. kingdom that I live in here on

  709. earth then have I aligned myself with

  710. the

  711. king has there been a time in my

  712. life where I've recognized my sinfulness

  713. and asked Jesus to forgive me has there

  714. been a time in my life where I've given

  715. my life to him through faith and allowed

  716. him to cleanse me of my unrighteousness

  717. and adopt me into the family of God to

  718. relieve this sin burden that I've been

  719. carrying around for all these years and

  720. replace it with this purpose this

  721. incredible purpose that only God can

  722. give us

  723. that's a question that deserves an

  724. answer and unfortunately I can't answer

  725. it for you your mom your dad they can't

  726. answer it for you your grandparents

  727. cannot answer it for you only you can

  728. answer that question do I

  729. believe friends if the answer is no this

  730. morning I would just encourage you to

  731. not leave this place without giving your

  732. life to Jesus it's a simple little

  733. prayer you just say something like this

  734. say "I know I'm a sinner and I need a

  735. savior and I believe that savior's name

  736. is

  737. Jesus and I give my life completely and

  738. fully to

  739. him i believe he lived a perfect life i

  740. believe he died on the cross and I

  741. believe he rose from the

  742. dead so I trust

  743. him to me he is undeniable

  744. for the rest of us father I pray that

  745. today would be a great reminder a more

  746. one of those solidifying moments in our

  747. lives where we realize that faith isn't

  748. just some abstract thing where we have

  749. to turn our brain off to believe no

  750. faith is real it's grounded in reality

  751. it's grounded in the historical

  752. undeniable Jesus and the claims that he

  753. made to be the son of God and the only

  754. way to him so Lord help us today to take

  755. that message to a community that needs

  756. to hear it lord help us not to waste

  757. opportunities when we have them to share

  758. the gospel help us to take every moment

  759. to fulfill our purpose to be the salt

  760. and the light lord I thank you for what

  761. you're doing in this this church and

  762. other churches in our community that are

  763. preaching the gospel lord that mission

  764. field is so vast out there and so I

  765. thank you for calling disciples from

  766. these places to go out to those fields

  767. that are white for the harvest and I

  768. pray that the Holy Spirit would go

  769. before us that would prepare hearts and

  770. minds and gospel conversation

  771. opportunities and that when that door

  772. opens Lord help us to have the courage

  773. to step through it and engage knowing

  774. that the Holy Spirit will give us the

  775. words to say as we proceed

  776. father as we close this part of the

  777. service with song of invitation I pray

  778. that if there are any that need prayer

  779. any that need to just come to the altar

  780. and kneel before you and pray for a lost

  781. loved one any that need to rededicate

  782. their lives Lord or any that may want to

  783. get baptized or saved I pray that today

  784. that you will have full access to their

  785. heart that you will reign supreme in

  786. them and they will listen to that still

  787. small voice of the Holy Spirit telling

  788. them what to do in these moments in

  789. Jesus name I pray amen
