  3. called the haunting cries of

  4. crucify echoed Through the streets a

  5. rugged cross a crown of thorns were

  6. gifts I

  7. had for this king to be

  8. seen on crucif

  9. [Music]

  10. day as he laid on

  11. his

  12. arms wide I held his hands and feet in

  13. place

  14. it was time for him to die the crowd

  15. began to cheer me as I brought my hammer

  16. down

  17. but at that very

  18. moment all of heaven heard a

  19. [Music]

  20. sound my name rang

  21. louder heaven won the

  22. victory the lamb has prevailed

  23. angels bow to worship him the one who

  24. could not

  25. [Music]

  26. fail my name ring louder

  27. than the nails

  28. i will

  29. cling to the

  30. old

  31. rug

  32. cross for

  33. it

  34. there he bore all my

  35. sin and shame

  36. [Music]

  37. my

  38. [Music]

  39. name heaven won the

  40. victory the lamb has

  41. prevailed i must bow to worship him the

  42. one who could not fail

  43. my name ring louder

  44. than the

  45. [Music]

  46. nails my name ring louder

  47. than the

  48. [Music]

  49. nails name I pray amen title of this

  50. message is family survival kit so my job

  51. uh as we started hiking a couple years

  52. ago my job was to be the pack mule

  53. basically uh so I found a cool little

  54. Osprey hiking backpack at a yard sale

  55. for like two bucks and so I bought it

  56. and I started to uh fill it up with

  57. essentials for this family hiking trip

  58. that we were about to go on so I put all

  59. the stuff that you have to have in the

  60. bag a knife and water bottles and

  61. sunscreen and trail mix and a bit of

  62. honeys and cho sticks and jack link

  63. jerky uh Pringles oatmeal cream pies and

  64. Skittles i had all that in my packing so

  65. we were ready to go so we go on this

  66. hike we're in the middle of nowhere and

  67. uh all of a sudden it starts to rain and

  68. my wife looks at me and she says "Well

  69. where are the ponchos?" I'm like "You

  70. want some trail mix

  71. i I didn't prepare for the storm the the

  72. weather didn't say there was going to be

  73. a storm that day but there was a storm

  74. that day and so we got to enjoy each

  75. other's company under a tree for two

  76. hours no internet as well so I was not

  77. prepared for the storm and my family

  78. paid the price so in this series we're

  79. going to talk about how to build a

  80. family that can withstand all of life's

  81. storms and since everything in our life

  82. is predicated upon the resurrection of

  83. Jesus Christ from the dead I'm going to

  84. teach you how to bring your family

  85. relationships to the one who laid down

  86. his life and picked it up again because

  87. that's where you have to start you got

  88. to start with the one who makes the

  89. impossible possible you have to bring

  90. your families to Jesus if your family is

  91. going to be strong so at the conclusion

  92. of Jesus message sermon on the mount in

  93. Matthew chapter 7 he gives an

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  94. illustration and he says that the thing

  95. that determines how a home how a a

  96. family does in a storm is the foundation

  97. that that home is actually built upon

  98. jesus says there's this foolish man who

  99. built his house on the sand and the

  100. house looked amazing the house was the

  101. kind of house that's Instagram worthy

  102. it's the house that you would want your

  103. house to look like but the problem is

  104. that house was built on human opinions

  105. and human feelings and human emotions

  106. and so when that storm came the

  107. scripture says that the house was

  108. destroyed and Jesus even says "Great was

  109. its collapse." But there's another man

  110. in this illustration there's a a man who

  111. built his house on the rock there was a

  112. man who knows the word of God and a man

  113. who does the word of God and that family

  114. faced the exact same storm that

  115. hurricane of life hit both of those

  116. houses at the exact same time the winds

  117. and the rain were beating on both of the

  118. houses in exactly the same way but this

  119. house was left standing because this

  120. house was built on the rock so what's

  121. great about this scripture is that the

  122. promises that are contained in Matthew

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  123. chapter 7 these these illustrations that

  124. Jesus uses to teach us how to build our

  125. lives on the rock were actually formed

  126. out of Psalm 128 so Jesus had Psalm 128

  127. on his mind as he was writing the

  128. closing illustration for the greatest

  129. sermon that's ever been preached

  130. so the takeaway here is that God wants

  131. our homes to be built on a solid

  132. foundation and he tells us that the way

  133. to do that is to understand biblical

  134. teaching and not just understand it but

  135. actually obey it it's really as simple

  136. as that you hear the word of God and you

  137. obey the word of God and your family

  138. become stronger because of it so in this

  139. day of confusion in this day of

  140. distortion in a day where people and

  141. culture are basing things off of their

  142. feelings and not on the actual word of

  143. God and what God has to say we're going

  144. to turn our attention to the scripture

  145. that inspired the closing illustration

  146. of the greatest sermon that's ever been

  147. preached which again is Psalm 128 so

  148. would you join me there in verse one

  149. Psalm 128

  150. how happy that word could be translated

  151. blessed as well how happy is everyone

  152. who fears the Lord who walks in his ways

  153. you will surely eat what your hands have

  154. worked for you will be happy and it will

  155. go well with you your wife will be like

  156. a fruitful vine within your house your

  157. children like young olive trees around

  158. the table in this very way the man who

  159. fears the Lord will be blessed may the

  160. Lord bless you from Zion so that you

  161. will see the prosperity of Jerusalem all

  162. the days of your life and you will see

  163. your children's

  164. children peace be with

  165. Israel so this psalm was on Jesus

  166. playlist as he made his way up to

  167. Jerusalem these are called the Psalms of

  168. ascent they're songs that would have

  169. been sung by people going on their

  170. pilgrimage to Jerusalem it was part of

  171. Jesus road trip playlist and now one of

  172. the great passions of my life is to

  173. actually manage and and curate playlists

  174. on my Apple Music playlist section i I

  175. got playlists for workouts i got

  176. playlists for road trips like Life is a

  177. Highway i'm sorry um but one of my

  178. fondest memories of one of the playlists

  179. that I created it just made my heart

  180. smile so much is when I took a trip down

  181. to Atlanta with a few people from this

  182. church for a conference and I had a '9s

  183. a clean edited '9s hiphop playlist that

  184. I put on in the church van and what blew

  185. my mind is David Burgess Jr knew every

  186. single lyric to every single hip-hop

  187. song that was written in the 90s and he

  188. was singing it out in the church van it

  189. was so incredible it made me feel so

  190. good because that was my playlist and he

  191. enjoyed it so much one of my personal

  192. favorite memories is driving over the

  193. Blue Ridge Parkway on my way back to

  194. West Virginia for the first time in a

  195. long time and I remember I put on

  196. country roads and it just kind of it

  197. hits you in the fields the right music

  198. at the right time really can change your

  199. perspective on life and so Jesus he sang

  200. song Psalm 128 with his disciples every

  201. time they would go on one of three

  202. pilgrimages to Jerusalem for festivals

  203. can you imagine that three Thanksgiving

  204. meals per year why don't we follow that

  205. calendar i would love that i don't do

  206. any of the cooking so of course I would

  207. love that if we had three Thanksgiving

  208. meals a year but that's what God's word

  209. commanded his people to do go to

  210. Jerusalem for a festival three different

  211. times per year people joke Baptists

  212. about how much we eat man we're just

  213. being biblical right like we're just

  214. following what God told us to do we're

  215. honoring his traditions but but God is

  216. like "Here's a party there's a party."

  217. God clearly loves a party god loves it

  218. when his people get together and

  219. celebrate life and provision and

  220. protection and the love and the grace

  221. and the mercy and the forgiveness that

  222. he has given them and the Bible tells us

  223. that those parties are just a symbol of

  224. what's to come because as soon as Jesus

  225. comes back and raptures the living and

  226. the dead and we all go to heaven

  227. together the very first thing we do is

  228. we have a party it says that Jesus is

  229. going to sing to us and provide the meal

  230. for us believers from all over the globe

  231. from all the different generations past

  232. and all the generations to come th this

  233. song these psalms of ascent were meant

  234. to be on this playlist so it would drag

  235. us into this understanding of what God

  236. is doing and what he will continue to do

  237. for all of eternity so Psalm 128 was on

  238. the playlist on the way to the festival

  239. and by the way they're called the Psalms

  240. of Ascent because Jerusalem is a city on

  241. a hill and so as you went to Jerusalem

  242. you would ascend into uh the city but it

  243. was on these Psalms of ascent were on

  244. the playlist and this one specifically

  245. because it was it was strategically

  246. placed there so that Jesus God could

  247. tell people about what a vision of

  248. building your house on the rock actually

  249. looks like and what it would lead to in

  250. the lives of the families that took

  251. God's word seriously look at the

  252. heartbeat of the psalm

  253. god is saying that the best thing that

  254. you and I can do for our world is to

  255. have a strong and healthy family and

  256. then he says the best thing that you can

  257. you and I can do for our families is to

  258. have a strong and healthy marriage and

  259. then it says the best thing that you and

  260. I can do for our marriage is to have a

  261. strong and healthy soul so when you

  262. watch the news and you see about another

  263. shakeup in your community and it kind of

  264. rattles you and you ask that question

  265. what can I do to make my world a better

  266. place the answer is have a strong and

  267. healthy family and then you're like well

  268. what what can I do how can I have a a

  269. strong and healthy family well have a

  270. strong and healthy marriage well how can

  271. I have a strong and healthy marriage

  272. have a strong and healthy soul

  273. psalm 128

  274. is the beginning of the ripples the

  275. ramifications of a blessed world

  276. understand that the the blessing that

  277. we're talking about here flows from a

  278. person in verse one who fears God and

  279. walks in his

  280. ways so healthy families they they bring

  281. a blessing to Jerusalem which is a city

  282. and then it says that this creates peace

  283. in Israel which is a country and then it

  284. says that it produces positive vibes all

  285. across the world that'll bless your

  286. children's children where does it start

  287. with a person who fears God and walks in

  288. his ways so basically he's saying

  289. "Change your heart change your family

  290. and then you will be able to change your

  291. world."

  292. So for all the single people all the

  293. dating people all the engaged people all

  294. the married people the key to finding

  295. happiness according to God's word is

  296. fearing God and walking in his ways look

  297. at verse one how happy is everyone who

  298. fears the Lord and walks in his ways and

  299. some of you are like "Man I was really

  300. hoping you would give me like five steps

  301. to being a better husband i was really

  302. hoping you would tell us to like go on a

  303. marriage retreat and to to read a a

  304. healthy marriage book." And hey good all

  305. those things all those things are

  306. excellent you should do all of them but

  307. here at Sawers Creek we preach the word

  308. of God and the word of God says step one

  309. of finding a healthy marriage and a

  310. healthy family is that you have to be

  311. able to fear God look Solomon was the

  312. wisest person that ever existed he wrote

  313. the Proverbs and he went on this life

  314. journey where he explored every avenue

  315. that you could ever explore in a life he

  316. had all the all the knowledge in the

  317. world he had all the money in the world

  318. and so he could do anything he wanted to

  319. do and so he tried to distill life down

  320. into one simple statement and he says at

  321. the end of all of his studies that there

  322. is only one thing that matters and that

  323. is a healthy fear of God says in

  324. Proverbs 19:23 "The fear of the Lord

    Proverbs 19:23

  325. leads to life and he who has it will

  326. abide in satisfaction." Anybody want

  327. satisfaction today

  328. you can't get

  329. no well the reason you can't get no

  330. satisfaction means that you do not have

  331. a healthy fear of God the apostle Peter

  332. when he did the exact same thing tried

  333. to figure out what is life all about he

  334. boiled it down to one simple statement

  335. and it was fear God how do we see our

  336. parenting dynamic change how do we see

  337. our family structure change how do we

  338. see our marriages change how do we see

  339. our world change it starts with a

  340. healthy fear of God so what does it mean

  341. to fear God good question glad you asked

  342. two types of

  343. fear there's a bad fear which the word

  344. equals terror okay so I have four huge

  345. fears going in in descending order

  346. number four for me is heights number

  347. three is

  348. clowns number two is middle schoolers

  349. and number one by a large margin is

  350. slugs i've never talked about this

  351. publicly it's the first time for me so

  352. please don't judge me it's slugs now I

  353. would rather be trapped on the top of

  354. the Empire State Building by a bunch of

  355. middle school age clowns than I would to

  356. touch a slug i hate slugs slugs are

  357. disgusting creatures the devil gets in

  358. my house sometimes in the form of a slug

  359. i have a normal house a clean house

  360. there's no reason for a slug to ever be

  361. in my house but there have been

  362. occasions where I'll be sitting on my

  363. couch and I'll look down and there'll be

  364. a slug on my leg where does it come from

  365. the devil put it there that's all I can

  366. figure i hate slugs and I was telling I

  367. did the reason I don't talk about this

  368. publicly is because I had this pastor

  369. friend and I told him that you know I

  370. was I was scared of uh slugs and he

  371. quoted 2 Timothy 1:7 to me he said "God

    2 Timothy 1:7

  372. has not given us a spirit of fear." I'm

  373. like "God didn't know about slugs

  374. apparently cuz they're creepy man." And

  375. then he says "If God didn't give it to

  376. you then you don't have to keep it." And

  377. he didn't give you a spirit of fear so I

  378. smacked him and we're no longer friends

  379. anymore because I'm like man that's

  380. terrible

  381. advice that's the definition of an

  382. unhealthy fear that is terror that is

  383. not the word that is used in the Bible

  384. when it's talking about fearing God he

  385. does not want you to be terrified of him

  386. as if he was a slug or a clown or a high

  387. place there is another type of fear that

  388. is in your Bible and it's used in the

  389. Old Testament and New Testament and the

  390. words translate the exact same healthy

  391. holy fear there's a healthy holy fear i

  392. did a lot of research on this i wanted

  393. to find the easiest way to explain it

  394. and I came across a quote by Levi Lusco

  395. that I think is absolutely brilliant

  396. speaking of a healthy holy fear he says

  397. it's like a playing with a kitten in a

  398. thunderstorm like being in the presence

  399. of a kitten and also experiencing the

  400. power the bone rattling humbling power

  401. that comes when you are in the presence

  402. of thunder and I thought about that like

  403. when the thunder claps like

  404. conversations stop and people start to

  405. assess their life they're like are we in

  406. danger how far away is the lightning

  407. because lightning is no respector of

  408. persons the thunder reminds you of just

  409. how frail you are so in the Bible we see

  410. a perfect illustration of this in the

  411. Apostle John the Apostle John is the

  412. disciple whom Jesus loved he was the one

  413. that was probably uh more intimate with

  414. Jesus than any of the other disciples

  415. but it says in scripture that there was

  416. a a time when the Apostle John saw the

  417. power of Jesus on full display and it

  418. says that he fell before him as though

  419. he were dead this kind of stops that

  420. flippant conversation we often have

  421. about Jo about Jesus when we're like

  422. "Well when I get to heaven he's going to

  423. have some explaining to do." You know

  424. actually no he doesn't and he's not

  425. going to explain mosquitoes to you

  426. because I've actually said that about

  427. mosquitoes but um when you get to heaven

  428. he's not going to have to explain

  429. himself to you because you will be on

  430. your knees or on your face the Bible

  431. says that in the presence of the Lord

  432. every knee will bow and every tongue

  433. will confess that he is God's son and

  434. you will lay there until Jesus says "Get

  435. up and do not be afraid." So you have

  436. the apostle John who fell as though dead

  437. before Jesus when he saw his mighty

  438. power a power that he could not even

  439. fathom but this is also the same

  440. disciple that at the Lord's supper laid

  441. his head on Jesus chest as they ate cs

  442. Lewis famously uh And Alon the the lion

  443. uh who represents Jesus in the

  444. Chronicles of Narnia he describes this

  445. great lion as both love and thunder

  446. jesus is the lamb that was it's the the

  447. first song that we sang he is the lamb

  448. that is led to slaughter but he's also

  449. the fierce lion of Judah he roars like a

  450. lion he bled as a lamb think about it

  451. this way every star every planet every

  452. galaxy that's ever been spoken into

  453. existence was spoken into existence by

  454. Jesus himself and that same voice that

  455. spoke reality into being also speaks to

  456. you in a whisper because he's that close

  457. to where you're at when you stand on the

  458. the banks of the the Outer Banks and you

  459. look at the the ocean and you hear its

  460. pounding waves and you realize that

  461. Jesus controls all of that he holds all

  462. of that together he sustains the oceans

  463. and yet he was willing to package

  464. himself up in the form of a man and go

  465. to the cross for you when you stand at

  466. the foot of the cross in your mind's eye

  467. and you look up at your bleeding savior

  468. who has all the power and fury of

  469. lightning in his eyes but he chose to

  470. stay there because he loves you and you

  471. hear him say to you that he's got your

  472. name engraved on the palm of his hand

  473. when you hear him say to you that for

  474. the joy set before him that's you he

  475. endured the cross that experience that's

  476. love and that thunder in the same place

  477. produces a healthy fear of

  478. God let's go again says it's not fear

  479. that'll smite us down it's a profound

  480. reverential awe that comes over your

  481. heart that is marked by the cost of

  482. God's amazing

  483. grace so what does this fear do why are

  484. we talking about it today why is it so

  485. important for your families well fear

  486. leads to according to verse one walking

  487. says "How happy is everyone who fears

  488. the Lord and then the result of fearing

  489. God is you actually walk in his ways."

  490. The fear of the Lord leads you to

  491. walking in his ways with your feet and

  492. when you walk in the ways of the Lord in

  493. verse two it tells us that that's going

  494. to impact your finances

  495. says "You will surely eat what your

  496. hands have worked for you will be happy

  497. and it will go well for you." So when we

  498. fear God we have a different spirit

  499. about us we have a a different work

  500. ethic about us we have a different

  501. mentality about us when we go to work

  502. we're not working for our boss we're not

  503. working for the company we're working

  504. for the Lord and so when we go to work

  505. as Christians we often should have the

  506. feeling of of a blessing a satisfaction

  507. knowing that we get to honor God that

  508. day even if our job is miserable and

  509. hard and we're not being paid enough for

  510. it we can still go to work and see that

  511. as our mission field and thank God that

  512. we're able to work so we can actually

  513. eat that work ethic leads to eating the

  514. fruit of your hands andy Stanley says

  515. "Following Jesus will not just make your

  516. life better it will also make you better

  517. at life." And this is why because when

  518. you receive money your money will now be

  519. seen as something that you steward and

  520. you'll start to use your money with a

  521. kingdom vision in mind so our mission

  522. statement here at this church is share

  523. Jesus and serve others and we had a a

  524. wonderful meeting with Dennis Connor

  525. from the state convention on Thursday

  526. here at the church and he was trying to

  527. help us figure out what we should do

  528. with our our space issues and as we

  529. talked through that we were thinking

  530. like sharing Jesus man we got to open up

  531. new opportunities for people to worship

  532. we got to open up new opportunities for

  533. disciplem because that's who we are

  534. we're sharing Jesus and then serving

  535. others what does that look like is that

  536. just individuals or can we actually

  537. serve churches as well and we we were

  538. looking at different things like

  539. planting churches and replanting

  540. churches and all these amazing options

  541. that God has not clarified yet but has

  542. given us a starting point on and the

  543. reason I mention that is because those

  544. things take money and so people who are

  545. walking in the ways of the world or the

  546. ways of the Lord they will use their

  547. finances to uh to to push into that

  548. kingdom vision that God has laid on

  549. their heart and when you do what God

  550. wants you to do when you steward his

  551. money well number one he gives you more

  552. of it and then number two it gives you

  553. the satisfaction and the joy of being a

  554. part of something that is much larger

  555. than yourself but that's not the focus

  556. of this sermon series also it says that

  557. the fear of the Lord will impact the way

  558. that you walk in your feelings it

  559. literally says you will be happy and I

  560. did a sermon a couple years ago i don't

  561. know the title of it i I was going to I

  562. was going to promote it today but I

  563. don't remember what it actually was but

  564. I remember talking about what the word

  565. happy meant and it means or blessed me

  566. it means happy happy so if you want to

  567. be happy happy in your life then walk in

  568. the ways of the Lord number three it

  569. tells us that it's going to impact our

  570. future notice that that phrase there

  571. says it will go well for you that's a

  572. future tense not not just right now

  573. it'll go well for you but into the

  574. future friends I don't know what the

  575. economy is going to do i don't know

  576. who's going to win the next election but

  577. what I do know is that if you fear God

  578. and you walk in his ways that it will go

  579. well for you isaiah 43 talks about how

  580. that the fire is going to show up and

  581. the floods are going to show up but the

  582. people that fear God and walk in the

  583. ways of the Lord they don't have to

  584. worry about the water and they don't

  585. have to worry about the flame the

  586. scripture says that even when you walk

  587. through the valley of the shadow of

  588. death you're going to be able to pass

  589. through that moment i mean who else can

  590. say "Oh it's going to be well for you

  591. even when you die." Where else can you

  592. find that kind of

  593. assurance other than in God so the best

  594. really is yet to come but again that's

  595. not the focus of this series

  596. the focus of this series is to talk

  597. about how walking with God and fearing

  598. the Lord is the best thing that you can

  599. do for your family so look there in

  600. verse three

  601. now says "Your wife will be like a

  602. fruitful vine within your house and your

  603. children like young olive trees around

  604. your table so if you fear God and you

  605. walk in his ways your family will be

  606. blessed and your wife specifically will

  607. be blessed and maybe just maybe you'll

  608. be blessed by having little olive trees

  609. that come home on spring break from

  610. college and eat all of the food in your

  611. house maybe you'll be blessed that way

  612. sorry so I don't want to I don't want to

  613. spend a lot of time on that today

  614. because that's the next sermon so if you

  615. want to hear more about how this impacts

  616. your family in relation to your marriage

  617. and your children I'd encourage you to

  618. come back next week for that but I just

  619. want to close today by uh pointing out

  620. three things that practical things that

  621. we can ask ourselves that will literally

  622. change your life today that'll change

  623. your world today remember you change

  624. your heart you change your family you

  625. change the world so question number one

  626. is for all the singles that are ready to

  627. mingle people um if that's you today you

  628. need to ask yourself this question when

  629. you find that that person you need to

  630. ask yourself do they have a healthy fear

  631. of the Lord and are they walking in his

  632. ways if you will ask yourself that

  633. question number one it's going to

  634. disqualify a lot of people from dating

  635. you i'm sorry about that but what it is

  636. going to do is it's going to filter out

  637. the ones that God doesn't want you to be

  638. with and you're going to find your one

  639. but maybe you're a married couple and uh

  640. God has not blessed you with those young

  641. olive trees yet um maybe he he won't but

  642. that's fine too uh if that's you though

  643. you need to be asking yourself this

  644. question about your marriage do I have a

  645. healthy fear of God and am I walking in

  646. his ways if you want to make your

  647. marriage better you don't have to go pay

  648. thousands of dollars for conferences you

  649. just have to be able to answer that

  650. question do I have a healthy fear of God

  651. and am I walking in his ways and if you

  652. get to the point where you can say yes

  653. then I promise you this your marriage

  654. will get

  655. better now keep in mind that there's two

  656. of you engaged in that that marriage and

  657. so maybe one of you grows and the other

  658. one doesn't but still the scripture does

  659. not come back void you will have a

  660. better marriage if you fear God and keep

  661. his commandments and if you have

  662. children if you've been blessed by these

  663. little olive trees that run around and

  664. and take all of your resources from you

  665. and turn you into a Uber driver and um

  666. anyway I've got some issues it's fine

  667. um you got to ask yourself this

  668. question am I developing a healthy fear

  669. of God in my children am I developing a

  670. child who wants to walk in the ways of

  671. the Lord see fearing God leads to

  672. walking in his ways and when you walk in

  673. his ways it leads to better finances it

  674. leads to happy feelings it leads to a

  675. blessed future and a much stronger

  676. family and what I love about this is it

  677. takes the pressure off of wives and

  678. husbands and fathers and mothers because

  679. you don't have to try to figure out ways

  680. to purchase safety you don't have to try

  681. to figure out ways to manipulate the

  682. world around you into creating a safe

  683. place and a safe heaven for your family

  684. because all you have to do is build your

  685. house on the rock and when the storms

  686. come knocking at your door the fear of

  687. God and walking in his commands will

  688. keep you from being destroyed by

  689. whatever that storm

  690. is so I just want to close by giving a

  691. shout out to my mom and dad my mom grew

  692. up in a environment where her father was

  693. a a Baptist minister in a bunch of small

  694. town churches and uh it was it was a

  695. difficult life for him uh a lot of

  696. churches loved him and received him and

  697. loved his word but there were other

  698. churches that they that did not like the

  699. way that he preached the truth he didn't

  700. tickle any ears and so sometimes they

  701. would push back against him and often my

  702. my grandmother specifically would be

  703. broken over the ways that the the pastor

  704. was treated in these churches and so my

  705. mom as a young lady had every

  706. opportunity when she got older and had a

  707. family to say "You know what those

  708. churches are not good for me or my

  709. family and so we're not going to go

  710. there anymore." But instead of doing

  711. that she and my father made sure that we

  712. went to church and built our house on

  713. the rock and as I got older in middle

  714. school and high school we went through

  715. four church splits in a seven-year

  716. period and to me from my perspective I

  717. don't know the whole stories but for me

  718. and from my perspective the bad guys

  719. always won in every single one of those

  720. situations and so for my father and my

  721. mother it would have been very easy for

  722. them to say "You know what all these

  723. churches are toxic and so we're not

  724. going to go anymore." But you know what

  725. they did they loaded up that old blue

  726. S10 with all three of us and we would

  727. drive to church on Sunday because they

  728. believed in building their house on the

  729. rock and you talk about changing a life

  730. changing my life so it would go better

  731. for their children and their children's

  732. children which are their grandkids now

  733. the fact that they did not allow the

  734. enemy to push them out of a church

  735. established a tradition and a foundation

  736. that we're still building our lives on

  737. today and yes those blessings are

  738. flowing through our finances they're

  739. flowing through our feelings they're

  740. flowing through our our family and I

  741. know they're going to flow into our

  742. future so I did just want to take a

  743. moment um to thank my parents for

  744. building our house on the

  745. rock

  746. father thank you for that uh been able

  747. to make that public testimony

  748. of how my life has been and the way that

  749. I was raised but I I know that my story

  750. is not everyone's story and I know there

  751. are probably people in the sound of my

  752. voice that come from houses that were

  753. not established on that rock but the

  754. beauty of the scripture is that it can

  755. start today and it can start with the

  756. people that are here listening and the

  757. people online that are watching it can

  758. start today this new generation can be

  759. raised in a house that is built upon a

  760. foundation that will withstand all of

  761. the storms father we want to be happy we

  762. want to be blessed financially we want

  763. to be secure into our future we want our

  764. families to be stronger we want to

  765. change our hearts and change our

  766. families so we can change the world and

  767. Lord we know that that starts in one

  768. place in one place alone and that is

  769. submitting ourselves to the word of God

  770. and walking in your ways so Lord I pray

  771. that everyone in this room will receive

  772. that message and see that it's not about

  773. uh manipulating God or manipulating

  774. their environment it's simply about

  775. obeying you and Lord you're going to

  776. take care of all the rest Lord it

  777. doesn't mean that there's not going to

  778. be any bad days what it does mean is

  779. when those storms come we're going to be

  780. able to stand strong against them united

  781. as a family so as we look at this family

  782. survival kit I pray that today uh people

  783. would start to take it up and apply it

  784. Lord that they would they would uh

  785. prioritize church and small group and

  786. Bible studies that they would pray

  787. together in their homes that they would

  788. worship in front of their children that

  789. they would show them not just tell them

  790. what's important but show them what's

  791. important lord I pray that we would see

  792. a families strengthened in this branch

  793. of your family tree but not just here

  794. Lord all the way in our community from

  795. all the other churches that are

  796. preaching your your word this morning i

  797. pray your blessings upon those families

  798. that are gathered there and Lord also

  799. pray for the the singles and the widowed

  800. Lord that uh are doing this by

  801. themselves i pray that they would still

  802. find their foundation in you lord even

  803. though their loved one is gone or they

  804. haven't met that person yet Lord I pray

  805. that they would see their their

  806. satisfaction and their safety in you i

  807. pray that you would show up in their

  808. lives and wrap your loving arms around

  809. them and help them to see that they are

  810. complete with you that they need nothing

  811. else lord I thank you for being able to

  812. preach your word this morning i thank

  813. you for what you've started to do in our

  814. lives today and I just pray that these

  815. blessings would continue to flow from

  816. the doors of this place into the

  817. community around us i pray your

  818. blessings upon all those that are

  819. battling storms today i pray that you

  820. would just call clear skies to them so

  821. they could have a break from the battle

  822. and be able to focus on what you want

  823. them to focus on and Lord we pray these

  824. things with confidence because right now

  825. we're praying in the beautiful name of

  826. Jesus Christ amen
