-
our Old Testament scripture reading
-
comes from Genesis 4:1 17- 26 then 5
-
veres 1:3 then verses 21 to 24 and 28 to
-
29 Cain knew his wife and she conceived
-
and bore Enoch when he built a city he
-
called the name of the city after the
-
name of his son Enoch to Enoch was born
-
irod and irod fathered
-
mahel and mahel fathered
-
meusel and meusel fathered lamek and
-
lamek took two wives the name of one was
-
adah and the name of the other Zilla
-
adab bore jabel he was the father of
-
those who dwell in tents and have
-
livestock his brother's name was jubil
-
he was the father of all those who play
-
the liar and
-
pipe Zilla also bore
-
tubalcain he was the forger of all
-
instruments of bronze and iron the
-
sister of Tu balane was
-
Nama lamech said to his wives
-
sorry Ada and Zilla hear my voice you
-
wives of lamek listen to what I say I
-
have killed a man for wounding me a
-
young man for striking me if Cain's
-
revenge is Sevenfold than LX is
-
77-fold and Adam knew his wife again and
-
she bore a son and called his name Seth
-
for she said God has appointed for me
-
another Offspring instead of Abel for
-
Cain killed him to Seth also a son was
-
born and he and he called his name enosh
-
at that time people began to call upon
-
the name of the Lord
-
this is the book of the generations of
-
Adam when God created man he name he
-
made him in the likeness of God male and
-
female he created them and he blessed
-
them and named them man when they were
-
created when Adam had lived 130 years he
-
fathered a son in his own likeness after
-
his image and named him
-
Seth now we're going to jump ahead to
-
verse
-
21 when Enoch had lived 65 years he
-
fathered
-
Methuselah Enoch walked with God after
-
he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had
-
other Sons and Daughters thus all the
-
days of Enoch were
-
365
-
years Enoch walked with God and he was
-
not for God took
-
him skip ahead to verse 28 when lamech
-
had lived 182 years he fought bed a son
-
and called his name Noah saying out of
-
the ground that the Lord is cursed this
-
one shall bring us relief from our work
-
and from the painful toil of our
-
hands our new testament reading comes
-
from Hebrew 11 verses 1
-
to6 now Faith is the Assurance of things
-
hoped for the conviction of Things Not
-
Seen for by it the people of old
-
received their
-
Commendation by faith we understand that
-
the Universe was created by the word of
-
God so that what is seen was not made
-
out of things that are
-
visible by faith Abel offered to God a
-
more acceptable sacrifice than Cain
-
through which he was commended as
-
righteous God commending him by
-
accepting his gifts and through his
-
faith though he died he still
-
speaks by faith en o was taken up so
-
that he should not see death and he was
-
not found because God had taken him now
-
before he was taken he was commended as
-
having pleased God and without faith it
-
is impossible to please him for whoever
-
would draw near to God must believe that
-
he exists and that he rewards those who
-
seek him this is the word of the Lord
-
thanks be to
-
God all right genealogies these these
-
are fun
-
right anybody who studied genealogy goes
-
okay how do I preach this well actually
-
this one's not that hard to preach once
-
we understand it because it's very
-
stylized to make a point it's stylized
-
in such a way that it's actually talking
-
about what's happened before these
-
genealogies first that we just studied
-
have nothing to do with what you
-
consider your family trees or your
-
genealogies they were written
-
differently they weren't concerned about
-
every body in their past being in them
-
first and number two they had a certain
-
way of taking these genealogies which
-
would skip generations to make a point
-
all right and as we see that we will see
-
that what the point's being made here is
-
that there are two roads Humanity can go
-
on that's what these genealogies are
-
showing but before I get into that the
-
first thing we have to realize is it's
-
speaking of generational sin in part
-
okay
-
most of you have heard of generational
-
sin but I'll give you an example when I
-
was a young buck 23 years old I got
-
hired as a a Child Protection Officer
-
for the uh Department of Child
-
Protection in British Columbia you
-
imagine me 23 going into homes never had
-
a kid didn't even dream of a kid at that
-
point and I was going into homes where
-
people were abusing neglecting in all
-
ways their children and you would get
-
the call I was called an intake worker
-
so you would go in and you would be the
-
front line and you would go into these
-
situations now you had these files that
-
you had to read before you went in so
-
that kind of give you an idea what's
-
going on with this family and to see if
-
there's probability you have to
-
understand that not every call was
-
necessarily mean that there was
-
something going on in fact there was uh
-
a lot of people in communities who would
-
rat out each other that they were
-
abusing their children just CU they
-
didn't like their neighbors especially
-
in small communities see would often
-
come in and you'd realize pretty quick
-
that this was a false allegation just to
-
make somebody's life uncomfortable
-
but sadly more times than not there
-
really was something to it and you
-
walked into these homes and I'm going to
-
tell you I can't even tell you guys this
-
day because you wouldn't believe me to
-
the level of dehumanization people will
-
do to their own children it's it's it
-
was stunning it it shocked me but I
-
started to real realized something as I
-
worked in that place I would start to
-
read these files and then it would say
-
see file B so I'd go to file B and the
-
file B was their parents
-
file and you realize when you read the
-
parents file that they were doing the
-
exact same thing to the ones I was
-
investigating and then I'd read a
-
grandparents file and they were doing
-
the exact same thing as the parents file
-
that and the people that I was
-
investigating and pretty soon you
-
realized you were dealing with probably
-
30 or 40 families in that city of Prince
-
George of 800,000 or sorry
-
80,000 because there was something
-
generational do you see there was
-
something that was going on where there
-
was abuse and neglect and the same kind
-
and it would often increase Generation
-
by generation it was the first time I
-
realized having grown up in a fairly
-
normal home I say fairly because I think
-
nobody has a perfect home but certainly
-
nothing like
-
this that sin leaves its Mark to the
-
Next
-
Generation evil doesn't just stop with
-
you well I got it good news for you
-
number one the Bible knows this talks
-
about it and it actually gives us
-
hope let's
-
pray heavenly father I thank you for
-
your Living Word I thank you for Jesus
-
Christ
-
breathe upon this
-
text May the words of my mouth and the
-
meditation of my heart be pleasing unto
-
you and may you and you alone receive
-
all glory and
-
honor
-
amen so I'm going to get into the text
-
right away I could have been way meaner
-
to Laura I was nice I had a whole bunch
-
of other somebody begat somebody and
-
some of these names were pretty rough
-
but I was nice that's that's why I cut
-
it out so so just so you know I happen
-
to think highly of Laura and I don't
-
want to lose my singer either so
-
um Cain knew his wife I think we all
-
know I don't have to explain that we're
-
all adults here right yeah okay and she
-
conceived and bore Enoch now this is not
-
the Enoch that you're going to think of
-
or that became famous they all had
-
similar names back then and Cain is
-
starting to have a family now what do we
-
know about Cain well we just talked
-
about him last week and it's going to
-
help us to understand that what to
-
expect in his lineage Cain is the one
-
who killed Abel remember remember Eve
-
when she was going to have Cain she said
-
ah God and I put this together she
-
almost made herself semi Divine when she
-
announces the birth of Cain you see the
-
fall coming you can be like God well by
-
the time she's having Cain she's giving
-
I guess what they'd say partial credits
-
to God so it's no surprise then that
-
Cain acts out the fruit doesn't he and
-
of course he gets jealous of Abel kills
-
him and the most amazing thing is God
-
shows Mercy he should have been killed
-
by the way according to God's justice
-
but God sends him off with the mark but
-
he says I will have Vengeance on anyone
-
who attacks you up to seven times that's
-
great mercy and you would only be able
-
to do that if he was a family member he
-
didn't even remove move him out of his
-
family out of God's
-
family so then does everything get set
-
right well no you see Cain's sin is
-
going to go down the generations and
-
that's what this is about so Cain has
-
this uh Cain and his wife have Enoch and
-
they built a city good for them why did
-
they build a city most people think CU
-
they're outside of the protection of the
-
Lord right because he's been kicked way
-
out for protection by the way who are
-
these people living in this C
-
well maybe we shouldn't read it too
-
literally maybe they were created
-
amongst a time where there were other
-
people on the Earth
-
anyways after the name of his son Enoch
-
to Enoch was born elad elad fathered
-
yeah whatever you get it same points
-
right down fed and then we get down to
-
number
-
seven now why does that matter do you
-
remember from Revelation the number
-
seven it's a very important number in
-
Judaism complete or perfection
-
so now he's seven the seventh generation
-
is going to show us what his complete
-
lineage is so lamic is the main point
-
everything else is just window dressing
-
now we get to lamic so what's happened
-
what is the perfect or complete line of
-
Cain the complete line of Eve who said I
-
could be like God what is the fal fruit
-
of the Fall well we get to lamic and
-
what does he do the first thing he does
-
is he takes how many wives
-
how many are we supposed to have in
-
Genesis
-
2 one so already he's breaking and he's
-
taking that's the language he takes
-
that's ownership folks remember the fall
-
and you will rule over them remember
-
that this is the fall on steroids it's
-
an increase of even what Adam did even
-
what Cain did he is only expanding
-
this and then he says and the name of
-
one was Ada and the name of the other
-
Zilla these are beautiful names all
-
right adaa bore jabel he was the father
-
of those who dwell in tents and have
-
livestock his brother's name was jubil
-
he was the father of those who play the
-
liar in the pipe these just mean that uh
-
he was the precursors of the Prototype
-
of people like
-
that Zilla also bore Tucan he was the
-
forger of all instruments of bronze and
-
iron the sister of tubalcain was Nama
-
and then you get this point here lch
-
we're back to him number seven what's
-
this guy like this guy who takes women
-
well listen to the fruit of Cain this is
-
like who is Cain going to be which is
-
the way can's going to be like what's
-
the fall at its full
-
Glory he said to his wives now notice he
-
they're not talking to him he's in
-
charge he's taken them he rules over
-
them the fall is in full
-
force adaa and Zilla hear my voice you
-
wives of lamek notice he owns them there
-
you wives of lamic you're mine I own
-
you listen to what I say I have killed a
-
man for
-
what not for killing somebody he
-
knew he killed them for an
-
offense you see that do you see the
-
increase of violence from Cain
-
remember they said I would sit up and
-
stand up and protect you and in case
-
somebody tries to kill you but this
-
isn't even a kill he killed for somebody
-
who simply wounded him you see the
-
increase in Injustice the increase in
-
vengence the increase in violence do you
-
see that I killed a guy for just
-
wounding me a young man for striking me
-
the guy gave him a little pop in the
-
nose and he stuck out his gun and shot
-
him he didn't have a gun
-
but if he
-
did the point of that being in there is
-
this is horrible and the reader should
-
note that this is horrible that death
-
and murder is no longer something that
-
should be abhor
-
according to God's law lamek should be
-
destroyed and he goes if Cain's revenge
-
is Sevenfold and nether in other words
-
if God was going to go and back Cain
-
Sevenfold to have Justice oh I'm going
-
to be much more vengeful than LX is 77
-
fold I'm going to double it times
-
10 you see
-
that this is showing lamek at his fruit
-
this is showing the curse and increase
-
in violence an increase in ownership of
-
women an increase of societal
-
destruction that's what's being shown in
-
this line of Cain all because Eve sees
-
herself in the line of God she's an idol
-
worshipper she sees that she's someone
-
significant and the name of Cain by the
-
way is to
-
take and out of this line we see that
-
the full fruit Seven Generations later
-
you got a guy just killing people cuz he
-
offended them marrying a couple women
-
and owning them and calling them his
-
wives not calling them partners that
-
work the Earth Genesis 2
-
so if we were the reader we might go
-
well this is not going well right what
-
hope does Humanity
-
have well genealogies are not all just
-
meant to tell us history they're also to
-
give us
-
hope so he points to another
-
genealogy and it's just opposed to the
-
can one and it starts with our friend
-
Seth it says Adam knew his wife again
-
and she bore a son and called his name
-
Seth for she said and we want to note
-
cuz remember when she said with Cain God
-
and I put this
-
together look what she says about Seth
-
because there's no Divine
-
pretense God has appointed for me
-
another Offspring instead of Abel for K
-
killed him God gave me it it wasn't me
-
and God that put it together I'm not God
-
God Gave Me Do you see that there's a
-
perception there's a thankfulness and we
-
should note then that there's going to
-
be a different fruit in this
-
genealogy unlike the Cain genealogy of
-
violence and
-
hatred this genealogy is going to be
-
much more pointing towards what could
-
have
-
been to Seth also had a son was born and
-
he called his name enosh at that time
-
people began to call him the name of the
-
Lord and then in this section because
-
she doesn't think of herself as God as a
-
procreator what do the people do instead
-
of taking violence in their own hand
-
instead of owning things they start to
-
worship God do you see the
-
difference so the Seth line is the one
-
that does begins to worship truly caring
-
about God because they recognize they
-
aren't God because in their genealogy
-
their mother didn't raise them to think
-
they were God
-
it
-
continues this is the book of the
-
generations of Adam when God and then
-
sorry and then it stops and what does
-
the writer do he does something
-
incredible he's told us about Seth and
-
his line and then he does this little
-
short set of chapters 1 and two of
-
Genesis why does he do that why does he
-
remind us of that with Seth because Cain
-
is clearly product of the Fall he does
-
this because he wants to remind us of
-
what could have been the good and Seth
-
is the possibility so what he does is he
-
retells the story of chapter 1 and two
-
this is the book of the generations of
-
Adam when God created man he made him in
-
the likeness of God chapter 1 male and
-
female he created them chapter 1 and he
-
blessed them and named man when they
-
were created chapter 2 when Adam had
-
lived for 13 SE years he fathered a son
-
in his own likeness and after his own
-
image named him Seth remember that God
-
was going to bless them so that they
-
could have children and be fellow
-
creators this is the
-
ideal God gave them he created them in
-
his likeness and he's given them the
-
right to act like him this is so unlike
-
Cain this is what could have been this
-
Seth
-
line so what should we
-
expect well we should as the reader run
-
to CH to the seventh generation of this
-
line remember lch lamic is the seventh
-
generation of Cain and it's awful what
-
do we find when we go to the seventh
-
generation of this Seth guy who's doing
-
it
-
right
-
Enoch when the Enoch had lived 65 years
-
he fathered Methuselah and what does it
-
say Enoch walked with God walked with
-
God not only there people worshiping
-
he's walking with God what what happened
-
in that
-
Garden before God and the fall he was
-
walking in the garden in the cool of the
-
day remember
-
that Enoch is doing and acting out what
-
Humanity should have been doing he's
-
walking with
-
God that's
-
incredible that's the
-
ideal for those who refuse to try and be
-
like Gods then they get to have the
-
relationship after heathered methus
-
Methuselah yeah 300 years and had other
-
Sons and Daughters thus all of the days
-
of Enoch were 365 years this is stylized
-
writing if you want to go to my Bible
-
study explained
-
why the main point of 365 years is he
-
lived a perfect life that's where the
-
3065 comes from and Enoch walked with
-
God
-
twice he says it have I ever told you
-
how important to hear something twice is
-
in Judaism they didn't have
-
punctuation okay and so when they wanted
-
to put an exclamation mark or really
-
point out this they've said something
-
twice now think of Jesus saying truly
-
truly I tell you remember those he's
-
saying you better listen to this that's
-
my exclamation mark well in this section
-
it twice notes that Enoch walked with
-
the Lord
-
that this line of Seth who is not got a
-
line of people telling us that we're
-
like God but rather she says God has
-
given me right ends with a humility and
-
in this you have the opportunity to walk
-
with God and be truly human and it says
-
Enoch walked with God and then it just
-
ends and says he was
-
not and you say he was not my mean he
-
died no it can never mean that in the
-
Hebrew it just it's a weird way of
-
saying it maybe they didn't know where
-
he left but he was gone and whatever it
-
is he's in God's sphere he didn't taste
-
death he had the Tree of Life offered to
-
him because he did it
-
right do you hear me Cain does it wrong
-
and brings death and
-
destruction
-
Enoch by not being an idolatry ID dotor
-
gets true life and
-
lives and that's what this is about this
-
whole section is about is there are two
-
ways my friends you can go the way of
-
Cain that leads to lamic and the perfect
-
vision of Cain is dominating wives and
-
killing people in Vengeance that's
-
lamic or you can go the way of
-
Seth whose mother rather than saying she
-
made him with God she said God gave me
-
him in humility and you can walk with
-
God and people we can worship Yahweh
-
because people will and ultimately in
-
the end of this line if you go that
-
way that's the way of the tree of life
-
you see it now this isn't a prescriptive
-
way on how you get saved this is a
-
reminder to an ancient people that the
-
destruction and death is not God's plan
-
and there is another way that's why this
-
was told
-
it's brilliantly told don't you
-
think it's stylized to tell us that not
-
necessarily do we have to end down this
-
whole way of
-
Cain for God took him and then you kind
-
of end this section of these two
-
geneologies but I had to add in one more
-
point you've kind of got the options
-
between men you've got cursed man in can
-
and you've got blessed man in Seth you
-
got the one who's living when creation
-
is good and then you got the one that's
-
living living when creation's bad and
-
one is living out the destruction of
-
creation bad and one is living out what
-
could be but there's one point in this
-
that we haven't hit on that the curse
-
brought and do you remember what that
-
was what was cursed beside
-
Humanity the
-
Earth and though the writer knows this
-
so he doesn't end his genealogy he ends
-
us with a
-
hope what about Earth well listen to
-
this when lamek this is a different
-
lamek it's not the lamek that was the
-
bad guy had lived 182 years he fathered
-
a son and called his name Noah saying
-
listen to this now out of the ground
-
that the Lord has cursed this one shall
-
bring us relief from the work from our
-
work and from the painful toil of our
-
hands so in this section he's shown the
-
good and the bad of humanity but also
-
the promise of New Creation
-
now Noah's not going to fully show that
-
is
-
he but what this is is this is the
-
gospel that's going to go right through
-
to Jesus
-
Christ there's a bad way there's a good
-
way and creation he's I'm not giving up
-
on it you see
-
that it's very
-
powerful when it's properly understood
-
when now to them they don't have Jesus
-
Christ yet do they so they don't know
-
how God's going to work this out and I'm
-
going to tell you the Seth line just
-
gets in as much trouble eventually it's
-
obviously not the prescriptive way to
-
become a Christ a follower of Christ
-
because they become part of humanity
-
that gets destroyed by the
-
flood right they don't keep it going but
-
this was written to show us there are
-
two roads we can go on and thank God
-
we've got the rest of the book
-
right well let me tell you first of all
-
scripture speaks about the reality of
-
generational sin
-
okay there is a reality now how many of
-
you said even jokingly sometimes oh
-
there I'm I I have said this many times
-
oh my gosh that's a Cy thing that just
-
came out anybody else done that or oh my
-
Lord you ever you who have had children
-
ever look at yourself and said oh my
-
gosh my father's in the room because of
-
the way you're talking to your
-
kids have you ever noted in your own
-
lives that there are some things that
-
probably you looked at your parents and
-
thought that's not your best part of you
-
and you struggle with it
-
later it's called generational
-
sin that's what the Bible would call it
-
something that's passed on to us and the
-
Bible speaks clearly of it and the
-
number one generational sin that causes
-
the most problem is idolatry that same
-
thing of
-
Eve you can be like God and so Exodus
-
warns us of this he says you shall not
-
not bow down to them the idols or serve
-
them for I the Lord God am your I the
-
Lord your God am a jealous God visiting
-
the iniquity of the fathers on the
-
children to the third and fourth
-
generation do you see the generational
-
thing of those who hate me but showing
-
and look at this Mercy steadfast love to
-
those thousands of those who love me and
-
keep my
-
Commandments There's Hope there too
-
again Exodus moving further down L the
-
Lord the Lord a god merciful and
-
gracious slow to anger and abounding in
-
steadfast love and faithfulness keeping
-
steadfast love to the thousands there we
-
got the thousands right forgiven
-
iniquity and transgression and sin but
-
who will by no means clear the guilty
-
visiting the iniquity of the fathers and
-
of the children and the children's
-
childrens to the third and the fourth
-
generation
-
you see there's a reality he wants to
-
pour out Grace Grace Grace but he also
-
recognizes that there are some canes in
-
the world
-
right and he will give you it's not that
-
he's angry and disciplining he giving
-
you over to your
-
sin and it becomes a generational
-
thing though even within the Old
-
Testament let me tell you in Ezekiel
-
somebody questions God about this
-
generational sin and he goes am I then
-
bound chapter 18
-
to do sin because my father and God says
-
no because if you do good you will break
-
it so even then the point being there is
-
generational
-
sin all
-
right and here's the bigger problem for
-
us not only that there's generational
-
sin but the sin is
-
universal Seth's family all died they
-
all were part of the curse they all have
-
to suffer through the flood see here's
-
the reality it isn't just whether you're
-
part of a generational sin you are under
-
the generational sin of
-
Adam do you see you are under the sin
-
all of us are we're all infected by this
-
desire to be like God right we all want
-
control or am I the only
-
one all of you are kind of like I don't
-
know m i got this figured out okay well
-
good for you
-
but in genu
-
reality every day each one of us are
-
infected by this thing this generational
-
Sin from Adam that says I can be like
-
God and it destroys Our
-
Lives
-
ironically even in the church people are
-
no longer seeing sin as a problem it's
-
just a therapeutic thing you need to
-
deal with a
-
disease you're a victim
-
unfortunately no one gets healed and no
-
one gets saved when you're a
-
victim it just doesn't happen it can't
-
happen because it's not a
-
disease it's a part of us that does
-
wrong because we want to do wrong and
-
it's in all of us in fact this whole
-
idea that original sin is kind of pass
-
and we should think of it as more as
-
medicine is the most obnoxiously silly
-
thing ever and actually in my opinion
-
discounts
-
evil when you think of the Holocaust
-
you're trying to tell me that was just
-
because some people had some
-
illness
-
right I like what uh GK Chesterton said
-
by the way if you ever want to just get
-
good quotes this old angle Catholic he
-
had great ones certain new theologians
-
dispute original sin which is the only
-
part of Christian theology which can
-
really be
-
proven anyone do a history lesson can
-
prove that guess what we've been sinning
-
for a long time and everyone's
-
guilty you ever watch the news at night
-
how does it make you feel oh good
-
everyone's happy and doing
-
well sin sin sin what about those babies
-
recently that were
-
killed do you see that little babies
-
murdered
-
all because of
-
ideology oh if you don't believe in sin
-
my friends I don't know what else to
-
say sin has hit us all again I'm going
-
to quote the great Charles Hodge
-
original sin is the only rational
-
solution of the undeniable fact of the
-
deep Universal and ear early manifested
-
sinfulness of man in all ages of every
-
class and in every part of the world
-
there's no place you can go to get out
-
of it there's no race there's no
-
gender there's nowhere you can go it's
-
in all of
-
us in fact the Bible makes it very clear
-
by the time Paul's writing that this is
-
our
-
problem why Paul says as by one man sent
-
sin entered into the world and death by
-
sin and so death passed on all men
-
for that all have sinned do you see
-
that and pretty much if you take that
-
serious we all are in the line of Seth
-
because we're all in the line of Adam we
-
all have that in us don't
-
we and really if the Bible just left it
-
at that we have no
-
hope and this is why Jesus matters so
-
much we couldn't deal with this problem
-
there's nothing we could do
-
we just keep doing it and doing it and
-
the harder we tried to do good Paul said
-
The more garbage was in his life I
-
sinned all the more says
-
Paul but we have a
-
redeemer and this is why I say to you my
-
friends you cannot save
-
yourself you need a
-
savior you can't in no matter how hard
-
you tried you can hold your breath you
-
can sit sit on a tree for 20 years all
-
by yourself sin is going to come and get
-
you I promise you there's nowh to
-
hide except
-
one Jesus of
-
Nazareth Paul wrote about how this sin
-
has infected us and then he writes this
-
beautiful thing of the Cure right after
-
in chapter 5 listen to these
-
words but the free gift is not like the
-
trespass the gift of redemption the
-
trespass Adam for if many died through
-
one man's trespass much more have the
-
grace of God and the free gift of the
-
grace of the one man Jesus Christ
-
abounded for
-
many and the free gift is not like the
-
result of that one man's sin for the
-
Judgment followed one trespass led to
-
condemnation but the free gift father
-
following many Tres trespasses brought
-
justification for if because of one
-
man's trespass day death Reign through
-
that one man much more will those who
-
receive the abundance and grace and the
-
free gifts of righteousness reign in
-
life through that one man Jesus Christ
-
he dealt with the curse and when he got
-
on that cross and he took it it no
-
longer was something that we were bound
-
voided to death because now Grace was
-
released do you see and it's bigger than
-
your sin isn't that
-
great no longer were we bound to go the
-
line of Cain now perhaps the way of Seth
-
and Enoch might be open to us because he
-
didn't give
-
up you
-
see a lot of people say well I find
-
Salvation in Buddha
-
or all or
-
I don't know new age something
-
Trump
-
whatever
-
Biden I tell you the truth my friends
-
they didn't die for
-
you none of
-
them none of them took sin on themselves
-
for
-
you only
-
one salvation is found in no other
-
in no one else for there is no other
-
name under Heaven given to mankind to
-
which we must be
-
saved that's
-
it the good news is we know that here I
-
know I'm preaching to people believe it
-
I'm trying to tell you guys wow this is
-
amazing CU we were going the way of
-
Destruction and Jesus Christ opened the
-
way of
-
Seth do you see the way that seemed
-
impossible up till Jesus Christ has now
-
been
-
opened Jesus has changed everything
-
today Jesus Christ is being dispatched
-
as a figurehead of a religion a mere
-
example he is that but he is infinitely
-
more he is salvation he is the gospel of
-
God he sets you free to go this way
-
he is it you
-
guys and it's
-
wonderful he's paid your
-
penalty and you're forgiven if you
-
believe in him isn't that amazing let me
-
tell you what that means
-
you when you die and you
-
will have access to the tree of life cuz
-
he's opened the
-
door and you will live
-
forever isn't that great
-
but I got even better news you can start
-
living it
-
now you can begin to walk with God now
-
well he didn't just pray for us he
-
didn't just pay the cost he gave us his
-
Holy
-
Spirit and here's the power that we can
-
overcome generational
-
sin you see I saw all of that darkness
-
and it was dark darks in ways you most
-
of you will never have to and I wouldn't
-
tell you and if I told you some of the
-
things I saw you wouldn't believe me
-
anyways and somebody said did you get
-
PTSD I said everybody who went in those
-
places got to touch a PTSD
-
guaranteed and I'll tell you what if I
-
didn't have this cross and this
-
Resurrection Life and the Holy Spirit I
-
wouldn't be standing
-
here but here's the truth not only did
-
he die for our sins he's given us new
-
life so we can can begin the pro
-
process of being
-
different it isn't just do we get saved
-
and go to heaven it's do we get to save
-
and get to be like we were created to be
-
walking with God remember remember this
-
quote everyone knows Micah
-
68 he has told you oh man what is good
-
and what does the Lord require of you
-
but to do
-
justice to love kindness and to what
-
walk humbly with your lord
-
we couldn't do that before
-
him but his Spirit got dropped so we can
-
now and when we walk by that we can
-
break those generational sins because we
-
can choose to not embrace them because
-
the spirit can come and convict us and
-
Empower us to walk a different way
-
that's incredible what a
-
gift what a gift I used to like this mic
-
there we go
-
and now we still have the two roads in
-
front of us even us
-
Christians which one are we going to
-
walk because the truth is oh Christian
-
are you going to walk by the spirit and
-
in the light of Jesus Christ the line of
-
Seth that leads to eternal life or are
-
you going to walk through the flesh your
-
own desires yeah I got saved but I'm
-
going to do what I want and watch your
-
life fall apart with violence and
-
control and taking
-
I think this is what Paul means when he
-
got to
-
Romans I think he's talking exactly
-
about these two roads there is therefore
-
now no condemnation to those who are on
-
Jesus Christ we're saved there's no
-
question pop back on me there
-
go but according to the spirit but who
-
do not and it goes so let's start again
-
there is therefore no condemnation of
-
those who are in Christ Jesus who do not
-
walk according to the flesh the way of
-
Cain do you see it that's the way of
-
Cain but according to the spirit the way
-
of Enoch Walking with
-
God for the law of the spirit of Life of
-
Christ Jesus has made me free from the
-
law of sin and death for what the law
-
could not do in that it made me weak
-
through the flesh God did by sending his
-
only son in the likeness of sinful Flesh
-
on account of sin he condemned sin in
-
the flesh
-
that the righteous requirement of the
-
law might be fulfilled in us and listen
-
to this this is our
-
options who do not walk according to the
-
flesh to the
-
idolatry to the Edom the eve can
-
line who choose not to go through
-
Vengeance and violence and owning women
-
and all of those evil things that come
-
out of
-
it but live according to the spirit
-
walking and worshiping like that Seth
-
line
-
did that's our options today it isn't
-
about salvation it's what you're going
-
to do I remember the great car Carl Bart
-
said to his students and it's so true I
-
wake up every morning and I had decide
-
whether I'm going to be a Christian not
-
whether I am a
-
Christian but I'm going to walk this out
-
I'm I going to walk with the Lord
-
the incredible thing my friends and this
-
is what an invitation it's not a
-
challenge it's an invitation that God
-
right now is here and he wants to walk
-
with
-
you he wants to give you Abundant
-
Life he doesn't tell you not to do
-
things because he's a party pooper he
-
says don't go that way because that way
-
leads to
-
death he tells you to walk another way
-
and he gives us his Spirit to help us
-
isn't that
-
incredible he wants you to have Abundant
-
Life right now he doesn't just want you
-
to suck it up and wait till Heaven
-
holding you know like you're sucking
-
lemons cuz life is so hard
-
now I agree with Charles uh Charles
-
uh W forget it I can't remember the name
-
Spurgeon who said we should be the
-
happiest human beings
-
Christians because we're walking with
-
the Living God
-
I think you need to understand that this
-
genealogy they had no hope through we do
-
these options are available and the door
-
has been made open to walk with God and
-
then one day be with him forever just
-
like Enoch All Because of Jesus now it's
-
our choice whether we want to walk in
-
that
-
life and T said those in whom the spirit
-
comes to live are God's new Temple
-
they are individually and corporately
-
places where Heaven and Earth meet these
-
are the people and you are
-
them you say well I haven't been a
-
Christian long
-
enough you are them I'm not good enough
-
you are
-
them do you believe Jesus Christ is your
-
lord then he's paid the price and he
-
wants to walk with you
-
today and the best news
-
just like Enoch being taken away because
-
he walked with the Lord is one day we're
-
going to walk with
-
god listen to now they're poetic words
-
in an apocalyptic genre but I think
-
you'll get the point listen to this
-
promise and
-
Revelation then I saw a new Heaven and a
-
new Earth for the first Heaven and the
-
first Earth had passed away and there
-
was no longer any sea what do we know
-
about sea now there's no longer any
-
chaos right
-
chaos is
-
gone and I saw the holy city the New
-
Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven from
-
God prepared as a bride beautifully
-
dressed for her
-
husband and I L heard a loud voice from
-
the throne saying look behold God's
-
dwelling
-
place is amongst his people and He will
-
dwell with them we will walk with him
-
again
-
they will be his people and God himself
-
will be with them and be their
-
God the Fulfillment of
-
Enoch he will wipe every tear from their
-
eyes there will be no more death or
-
Mourning or crying or pain for the old
-
order of things have passed
-
away you know I don't know why churches
-
everywhere aren't full
-
because this is the most incredible
-
story you will ever
-
hear the greatest promise not just for
-
your life of being saved but your life
-
that you can live now and the greatest
-
promise you have of The
-
Eternity why people aren't embracing
-
this shows that sin is powerful the line
-
of C is
-
strong but I promise you if we follow
-
this maybe we will be witnesses to that
-
other
-
line that there's a better
-
way and maybe they will come
-
in and have their generational sins
-
broken through the love of Jesus Christ
-
maybe they then will live the life we've
-
tasted and know that for eternity they
-
get to hang out with
-
God that's what we should be as a church
-
that's who we are this is the
-
gospel this is good news hang on to it
-
with all your life and on that day you
-
will see it face to
-
face let's
-
pray Heavenly Father we worship you for
-
you are
-
good to even put words to the goodness
-
here
-
that you showed us through those
-
genealogies that there were two ways to
-
be human and through your son Jesus
-
Christ you opened the door so that we
-
could walk with you just like Enoch that
-
you made the Tree of Life available like
-
you did for
-
Enoch all because of your sacrifice
-
because you took the curse upon
-
yourselves help us now to walk in that
-
new life
-
turning from the death of Cain the death
-
of
-
lamic turning from that line that's in
-
us and Lord put that hope within us that
-
truth that one day we will walk with you
-
in eternity and see you face to
-
face in Jesus name amen
