Genesis chapter
Genesis 9 chapter mention
-
9 and God blessed Noah and his sons and
-
said to them be fruitful and multiply
-
and fill the Earth the fear of you and
-
the dread of you shall be upon every
-
beast of the earth and upon every bird
-
of the heavens upon everything that
-
creeps on the ground and all the fish of
-
the sea into the your hand they are
-
delivered every moving thing that lives
-
shall be food for you and as I gave you
-
the green plants I give you
-
everything but you shall not eat flesh
-
with its life that is its blood and for
-
your lifeblood I will require a
-
reckoning from every Beast I will
-
require it and from man from his fellow
-
man I will require a reckoning for the
-
life of man
-
whoever sheds the blood of Man by man
-
shall his blood be shed for God made man
-
in his own
-
image and you be fruitful and multiply
-
increase greatly on the earth and
-
multiply in
-
it then God said to Noah and to his sons
-
with him behold I establish my Covenant
-
with you and your Offspring after you
-
and with every living living creature
-
that is with you the birds the livestock
-
and every beast of the Earth with you
-
and as many as came out of the
-
Ark it is for every beast of the
-
earth I establish my Covenant with you
-
that never again shall All Flesh be cut
-
off By the Waters of the flood and never
-
again shall there be a flood to destroy
-
all the
-
Earth and God said this is the sign of
-
the Covenant that I make between between
-
me and you and every living creature
-
that is with you for all future
-
Generations I have set my bow in the
-
cloud and it shall be a sign of the
-
Covenant between me and the earth when I
-
bring clouds over the earth and the bow
-
is seen in the clouds I will remember my
-
Covenant that is between me and you and
-
every living creature of All
-
Flesh when the bow was in the clouds I
-
will see it and remember the Everlasting
-
Covenant between God and every living
-
creature of All Flesh that is on the
-
earth God said to Noah this is the sign
-
of the Covenant that I have established
-
between me and All Flesh that is on the
-
earth the sons of Noah who went forth
-
from the ark were Shem ham and
-
japheth ham was the father of Canaan
-
these three were the sons of Noah and
-
from these the people of the whole earth
-
were
-
dispersed Noah began to be a man of the
-
soil and he planted a
-
Vineyard he drank of the wine and became
-
drunk and lay uncovered in his
-
tent and ham the father of Canaan saw
-
the nakedness of his father and told his
-
two brothers
-
outside then sham and japheth took a
-
garment laid it on both their shoulders
-
and walked backward and covered the
-
nakedness of their
-
father their faces were turned backward
-
and they did not see their father's
-
nakedness when Noah awoke from his wine
-
and knew what his youngest son had done
-
to him he said cursed be Canan a servant
-
of servants shall he be to his
-
brothers he also said blessed be the
-
Lord the god of Shem and let Canaan be
-
his
-
servant may God enlarge japheth and let
-
him dwell in the tents of Shem and let
-
Canan be his
-
servant After the flood Noah lived 350
-
years all the days of Noah were 950
-
years and he
-
died the New Testament reading is for 1
-
Corinthians
-
15: 20-
-
28 but in fact Christ has been raised
-
from the dead the first fruits of those
-
who have fallen
-
asleep for as by a Man Came Death by a
-
man has come also the resurrection of
-
the
-
Dead for as in Adam all die so also in
-
Christ shall all be made alive
-
but each in his own
-
order Christ the first fruits then at
-
his coming those who belong to
-
Christ then comes the end when he
-
delivers the kingdom to God the Father
-
after destroying every Rule and every
-
Authority and
-
power for he must Reign until he has put
-
all his enemies under his feet The Last
-
Enemy to be destroyed is death
-
for God has put all things in subjection
-
under his
-
feet but when it says all things are put
-
in
-
subjection it is plain that he is
-
accepted who put all things in
-
subjection under
-
him when all things are subjected to him
-
then the son himself will also be
-
subjected to him who put all things in
-
subjection under him that God May be all
-
in all this is the word of the Lord
-
thanks be to
-
God wow thanks again for these texts why
-
didn't we stop at chapter 3 like I
-
asked Noah's nakedness yeah thanks
-
guys there's actually sense to it but
-
you're going to have to give me a
-
minute this text is a profound text
-
they're all profound but it's building
-
on what's happened before it comes from
-
this ancient genre called creation
-
narratives it isn't a modern historical
-
telling it's crafted in a way that's
-
just opposing to the other creation
-
narratives around it it's saying this is
-
what our God looks like not like the
-
other gods it's written to an ancient
-
people for us but not to us so to
-
understand this text we're going to have
-
to allow ourselves once again to live in
-
their world live in their shoes and then
-
apply to
-
ourselves now when I'm sitting there
-
thinking how I'm going to preach this
-
thing I thought of a time I was in jail
-
yes I did
-
time as a
-
guard and there was one particular
-
gentleman I I I always say that guard
-
part because one time I said it and I
-
forgot to say it and a older lady in my
-
last Church prayed for me all the time
-
for this inmate that had spent all this
-
time in
-
jail now when you're in jail you don't
-
have a lot of relationship with the
-
inmates and anyone who's done time knows
-
why you don't they don't want it it
-
looks bad for them and you kind of do
-
your best to be polite but there was one
-
particular guy he was in remand do you
-
know what remand is he's remanded to
-
custody he's in jail but he hasn't been
-
fully charged yet and in Prince George
-
we had a remand unit and he was charged
-
and you never knew what these guys were
-
going to be charged cuz some of them
-
came to remand and were innocent and
-
ended up leaving others ended up being
-
convicted well this particular gentleman
-
who was very polite and kind I went to
-
his one time I'd been working with him
-
for about 4 months which is a long time
-
in remand and I would always kind of as
-
far as you get to have a relationship we
-
were able to have a bit of a connection
-
and I figured I could say something nice
-
to him because I was locking him up for
-
J uh uh December
-
31st so I said something stupid I know
-
that shocks some of
-
you but the foot in the mouth came
-
out and and I slow closed his door and
-
in the most innocent way said Happy New
-
Year and for the first time I saw
-
another side to my
-
friend he vined right up to the C the
-
cage and said what's going to be happy
-
about it emry I'm going to spend the
-
rest of the year right here in fact I'm
-
going to spend the rest of my life in
-
here now that shocked me cuz because he
-
didn't come across as a lifer and by the
-
way another lesson that every guard
-
needs to realize do not read the book by
-
the
-
cover read the story I see Val nodding
-
we were in the same
-
business
-
anyways so it turned out I went into his
-
file I hadn't even gone into his file
-
just couldn't think he was that bad and
-
he had just been convicted for a group
-
gruesome murder of a taxi driver where
-
he made
-
$50
-
yeah some immigrant guy just driving
-
home and I was
-
shocked and all of those thoughts come
-
back to you when you see that I thought
-
about the people who suffered because it
-
was graveyard you have lots of time to
-
think I read the F and it was
-
bad one of the worst I
-
read and it makes you sit there and
-
wonder how does somebody get to that
-
point it sits there and makes you wonder
-
Where's God in all this it
-
does it it to make you wonder who is the
-
real guy the guy who's been talking to
-
me for four months or the guy who did
-
that
-
well I think those are good questions I
-
think these are questions ultimately
-
maybe in different ways you guys are all
-
going to have to face because you're
-
going to realize that this world isn't
-
what it's going to
-
be and if you're going to be honest this
-
world is messed
-
up and the question is how do we deal
-
with that and I'm going to argue to you
-
this is exactly the questions that this
-
text is
-
answering let's
-
pray Heavenly Father you are so good
-
you're so gracious to US Open up our
-
eyes and ears and give us wisdom
-
in jesus' name amen well like I told you
-
this text is written against another
-
text and I'm going to invite you please
-
my friends take the moment if you find
-
this interesting read The Lost World of
-
the flood by John Walton or just go back
-
and read the Gilgamesh epic and you'll
-
realize that this Noah story was an
-
Assyrian Mesopotamian story that was
-
there way way before Israel this is in
-
the collective memory of these people
-
and the main point is the Gilgamesh epic
-
story is telling the exact same Noah
-
story but in completely different ways
-
and the reason why is the Gilgamesh epic
-
which is a creation story that has a
-
flood and the guy hops on a boat and
-
takes all the
-
animals has a very different God and a
-
very different purpose I want to remind
-
you again in Noah's story with it's not
-
Noah's story it's enu story in the
-
Gilgamesh epic he hops on the boat
-
because he gets tricked by the gods
-
because they flooded the Earth why
-
because they were trying to sleep and
-
Humanity got too noisy it's a true
-
story sounds silly doesn't it it's like
-
that upstairs neighbor that evicts you
-
because you had your music on too late
-
with
-
water a
-
joke it's quite strange and in the end
-
of this
-
story when they finally find land it's a
-
little God that tricked the other gods
-
that said oh we better keep Humanity
-
together so he saves this one guy in one
-
boat why does he save them so that they
-
can live and be able to feed the gods
-
cuz the gods get
-
hungry do you
-
see and in that case that guy named U
-
enu whatever I can't I can't speak
-
ancient Assyrian
-
um he ends up becoming like a god does
-
that sound familiar he becomes Divine
-
because he helped the gods survive and
-
then Humanity was there ready to be
-
slaves again to feed the gods and that's
-
what their story is our story is way
-
different I think it's based on the same
-
event but God breathed on our
-
Storyteller and said not like that God I
-
do this because of
-
Justice I do this because the world has
-
become chaos I am the good god I've made
-
order and now it's disorder and so I've
-
allowed the chaos Waters right we talked
-
about that to go come back and fill the
-
Earth but he doesn't doesn't give up and
-
why does he save because he needs humans
-
to feed him he needs nothing Our God he
-
saves by Mercy
-
alone and what he does is he recreates
-
in the Noah story right that's what the
-
Noah story is about you remember the
-
land coming out of the water Genesis 1
-
the land coming out of the primordial
-
Seas the big breath blowing over it
-
Genesis 1 the big breath blowing over it
-
I saw an African-American gentleman who
-
does reals of Theology and he does it in
-
the urban
-
tongue and I'll tell you what you got to
-
watch this because it'll give you a
-
different
-
perspective and he said I tell you if
-
you think God doesn't judge he put a
-
whole new reboot on this creation one
-
time he rebooted the whole thing I like
-
that God had rebooted
-
creation and his reason was Justice and
-
to destroy chaos
-
so now we're at the story where Noah's
-
arrived the question has to be has
-
everything
-
changed is evil gone is it done do you
-
see the questions are Cain and Abel and
-
all of that stuff and all of the stuff
-
of the I'm going to say it Nephilim
-
done I hope so because I'm never
-
teaching that
-
again well here comes the answer and the
-
writer knows what he's doing he starts
-
off with them coming off the boat and
-
God blessed Noah and his sons it starts
-
off with a blessing just like in the
-
original creation story and said to them
-
just like the original creation story to
-
Adam and Eve be fruitful and multiply
-
and fill the Earth he begins he's still
-
blessing and then right after he does
-
that we realize something's
-
changed that in some ways it's not even
-
that the bad is still there it's
-
actually gotten worse do you remember in
-
the Genesis story he tells them to be
-
fruitful and multiple and he's talking
-
but with the animals and then he says
-
what are you to do Rule and subdue do
-
you remember
-
that kingly language kingly language of
-
taking care of but no there's two words
-
now that
-
change and he goes to the side of the
-
animal and he says the fear of you and
-
Dread fear and dread has taken over Rule
-
and
-
subdue of you shall be on every beast of
-
the earth and upon every bird of the
-
heaven and upon everything that creeps
-
on the ground and all the fish of the
-
sea into your hands they are delivered
-
now rather than Rule and subdue name the
-
animals we have a change human beings
-
and the animal kingdom are a
-
conflict and a human beings the greatest
-
Hunters are now the ones to be afraid
-
of he
-
continues every moving thing that lives
-
shall be food for you and as I give you
-
the green plants I give you
-
everything he didn't give them
-
everything at the beginning now he has
-
but he says cuz things are going to get
-
worse you shall not eat flesh with its
-
life that is its
-
blood why does he put that in there
-
because God loves the animals he does
-
love the animals they're good they're
-
part of the good part of creation and in
-
Antiquity in Assyria they did eat the
-
animal live because they believe they
-
could suck the soul not soul for God's
-
people and that's why that rule is there
-
and and then he gives this rule that
-
many pro capital punishment people point
-
to it's a foundational law because it
-
comes from God right from the beginning
-
and for your life blood I will require a
-
reckoning from every Beast I will
-
require it and from man from his fellow
-
man I will require a reckoning from
-
fellow man whoever sheds the blood of a
-
man by man shall his blood be shed for
-
God made man in his own image
-
but something radically changed here
-
folks this is different God has changed
-
the game right after the creation story
-
and the good came and then they fell who
-
brought the Judgment against Cain do you
-
remember
-
God who had mercy on
-
Cain God who brings all the Judgment up
-
to this point god notice what's changed
-
here he's moved the judge to
-
humanity you notice that it's no longer
-
going to be God doing the direct
-
judgment he's going to empower His Image
-
bearers to begin to bring the justice
-
and he uses the image of death because
-
he showed what he did in the death in
-
Canaan abble there all these ties are
-
together and he's saying listen there is
-
going to be murder there's going to be
-
death and you guys have to deal with it
-
and you deal with it because we were
-
made in God's image and it's a big
-
offense do you see
-
that and then he stops and we're back to
-
blessing and you be fruitful and
-
multiply increase greatly on the earth
-
and multiply you're going to see a lot
-
of repetition in these texts can I tell
-
you why they're there when they repeat
-
something they're like listen it's like
-
you with your kid right you repeat
-
yourself you need to listen to
-
this increase greatly on the earth and
-
multiply it then God said to No One his
-
sons behold I have established a
-
covenant with you our first one and your
-
Offspring after you and with every
-
living creature with you the birds the
-
livestock and every beast of the Earth
-
with you as many as it came out of the
-
Ark it is for every beast of the earth
-
you notice that this blessing is not
-
just for humans I got to tell you
-
something that's crazy about our God
-
that none of the other gods he really
-
cares about the animal kingdom he places
-
us right with
-
them you notice
-
that no other gods like that so if
-
you're a person who likes animals he
-
this is your
-
god I establish my Covenant you that
-
never again shall All Flesh be cut off
-
By the Waters of the flood in other
-
words I am no longer going to use chaos
-
to destroy chaos doesn't mean he won't
-
bring judgment and it will be localized
-
but he's no longer going to destroy the
-
world and never again shall there be a
-
flood to destroy the Earth and here we
-
get the reput because this is really
-
important and God said this is the sign
-
of the Covenant that I make between you
-
and the living creatures and every
-
living creatures that is with you for
-
all generations and he uses a symbol now
-
you have to understand that ancient
-
Mesopotamian symbol when they saw the
-
bow the bow represented the attack
-
weapon for the
-
gods all gods so when you go back to
-
back into Antiquity the bow is always
-
used as the arrow and bow that the gods
-
would use and they would use these to
-
fight one another what God is saying
-
here is I'm hanging up my
-
bow you see
-
that this is a different time it's the
-
process of this God that's ultimately
-
going to be in
-
peace I have set my bow in the cloud and
-
it shall be a sign of the Covenant
-
between me and the earth when I bring
-
clouds over the earth and the bow bow is
-
seen in the clouds I will remember my
-
Covenant that is between me and you and
-
every living creature do you see the
-
repetition are you
-
listening and the water shall never
-
again become flawed and destroy all the
-
flesh continued said again when the bow
-
is in the cloud said again I will see it
-
and remember the Everlasting Covenant
-
between God and every living creature of
-
All Flesh that is on the earth said
-
again it seems almost too repetitious
-
doesn't it maybe he's saying
-
listen this is really important
-
and God said to Noah well here we go
-
again this is the sign of the Covenant
-
that I have established between you and
-
All Flesh that is on
-
Earth five
-
times God's making a point that's what's
-
changed God is no longer going to be the
-
one that brings ultimate judgment in
-
fact I'm going to pass judgment on to
-
you okay God but has anything changed
-
with us I mean yeah the animals are
-
afraid of us but what about us well
-
there we get to our story about good old
-
drunken
-
Noah the sons of Noah went forth from
-
the ark where Shem ham and japeth and
-
then he explains ham is a father of
-
Canaan I'm not going to describe that
-
you can go to my Bible study if you want
-
to know why these three were the sons of
-
Noah and from these the people of the
-
whole world Earth were
-
dispersed these are the
-
foundations and then we begin our story
-
that seems really strange but he puts
-
this in to make a point nothing's really
-
changed it might have got
-
worse Noah began to be be a man of the
-
soil and he planted a Vineyard and he
-
drank of the wine and be got liquored up
-
and lay uncovered in his
-
tent there is no theme here that this is
-
good or bad he's kind of a flat
-
character
-
Noah and that's not the main point the
-
main point is now
-
what well then you got this ham the
-
father of Canaan and he says he saw the
-
nakedness of his brother the exposed
-
sensuality the nakedness of his father
-
and he goes and told his two brothers
-
outside now this is supposed to be
-
something really
-
bad what could be so bad I
-
unfortunately have seen my
-
father in the swim
-
pool it's not
-
enjoyable but I don't think he'd curse
-
me for it my sons have seen me and it's
-
even less
-
enjoyable so the question we rightly
-
have is what is going on here were they
-
just prudes in the ancient
-
world no you see what we do know and
-
there we have to go back to their world
-
is when they use this is a nice way of
-
saying he saw his wife Noah's wife cuz
-
his nakedness Noah's nakedness back then
-
meant the nakedness of his sensual one
-
or his wife okay and why does he go and
-
the first reason we can connect it with
-
the fall is remember what Eve did when
-
she saw that fruit it says she saw and
-
what does she do she goes and tells Adam
-
this is a literary technique they he
-
sees the fruit the sensuality of Noah
-
the nakedness of Noah meaning again
-
almost guaranteed his wife and whatever
-
we take out of this he went and told his
-
brothers trying to draw them in just
-
like Eve tried to draw Adam
-
in that's your problem I'm not going to
-
go any deeper I'll let your
-
imaginations go to what you think our
-
good friend ham was thinking of
-
doing but the good
-
news then shed and hath took the Garment
-
laid it on both of their shoulders and
-
walked backward and covered the
-
nakedness of the father again this
-
language meant the wife beside you the
-
nakedness of the father was the person
-
he was with that's how it worked that's
-
how their language worked their faces
-
were turned backwards and they did not
-
see their father's nakedness when okay
-
so now that's it you've got the same sin
-
but you've got this time at least two
-
that aren't going to follow through but
-
it's still going to be bad
-
it's going to continue and then we find
-
that what God's kind of promised that
-
now I'm not going to judge you are
-
that's exactly what happens now it's not
-
God that brings the Judgment it's Noah
-
the human when Noah woke from his wine
-
he knew what his younger son had done to
-
him and he said cursed do you see it who
-
else said cursed in chapter 3 who was
-
the only one who said cursed
-
God but it's moved on hasn't it God's
-
passed judgment on humans to humans and
-
now Noah can say cursed be Canan a
-
servant of servants shall he be to his
-
brothers he also said
-
blessed another word god uses be the
-
Lord the god of sheeman then let Canaan
-
be his servant and may God enlarge jath
-
and let him dwell in the tents of Shem
-
and let Canaan be his
-
servant the judgment has come and it's
-
human
-
judgment the world is turned and God's
-
no longer going to he's going to let
-
human beings try and work through the
-
knowledge of Good and Evil the very
-
thing that destroyed
-
them and this is going to bring us on a
-
story of tragedy and ultimately
-
Redemption and then afterwards it says
-
he lived 350 years and all died of
-
nowhere were 950 years after he died
-
which if you're keeping notes at home
-
just before the flight said he wasn't
-
going to live more than 120 years so
-
obviously they're doing something with
-
numbers that are beyond the way we use
-
numbers which is
-
common so you've got this story laid out
-
folks God blesses says very clearly if
-
somebody dies they're made in God's
-
image they should be killed you got this
-
blessing and this Covenant I'm no longer
-
going to destroy and then he passes on
-
the judgment to humanity and we have
-
this story that the sin of Eve
-
is still with
-
us and nothing ultimately has changed
-
you can imagine that early Community
-
asking the question they just saw the
-
world quote unquote go through a
-
reboot they're asking themselves has
-
things changed that's the main question
-
and it
-
hasn't well let me ask you a question
-
when I'm sitting in
-
that unit and I see this guy and he's
-
done what he's done I can't help but
-
Wonder has anything changed I'm a
-
Christian
-
right I have a story about God coming
-
down and dying for our sins and
-
resurrection and I read this story what
-
happened to this
-
guy well in a way nothing's changed in a
-
way don't give up on me you see here's
-
the reality folks we live in
-
a culture of death did you know
-
that we live right now in our culture as
-
a culture of death we celebrate death we
-
actually see death as an option out we
-
see it very lightly and Loosely and why
-
do we do that because we don't see
-
people made in God's
-
image that's Long
-
Gone Going
-
Back Francis schaer man made in the
-
image of God has a purpose to be in
-
relationship to God who is there man
-
forgets his purpose and thus he for for
-
gets who he is and what life
-
means and when you forget why you're
-
there and what life means then you're
-
stuck celebrating
-
death you say well Amry come on we're
-
not in a in a death culture are we we've
-
been in a death culture for about 500
-
years did you know that didn't start
-
with Trump or Biden or Trudeau or POV or
-
whoever your latest one
-
is it didn't
-
started in the 16th century when the
-
philosophers started to go around and
-
they decided that they were going to
-
figure out Humanity without god well
-
they paid lip service to God but they
-
were going to figure out
-
God and soon you see this in the
-
European culture that people started to
-
look sideways at God they they did
-
religious actions but they didn't really
-
care about God and the way they looked
-
at humans were
-
different and got to the point to the
-
19th century where a very smart by the
-
way and very messed up human being and
-
the smartest philosopher finally said
-
the
-
truth
-
death is
-
come and we have killed God as
-
philosophers and it's infecting our
-
culture do you know who that philosopher
-
would
-
be
-
nii listen to his word
-
this is Tim to his philosophical
-
people God is dead God remains dead and
-
we have killed him how shall we Comfort
-
ourselves the murderer of all
-
murderers what was Holiness and mess of
-
who what was holiest and mightiest of
-
all that the world has yet known has
-
bled to death under our knives who will
-
wipe his blood from us what water is
-
there for us to clean ourselves what
-
festival of atonement what sacred Games
-
Shall we have to
-
invent what he said is the truth that
-
the Western culture had abandoned God
-
and only gave it lip service and finally
-
nii said let's be honest and admit God
-
is dead and there was another guy with a
-
big beard named Carl marks and he said
-
amen
-
right agree with
-
that and thus became the rise of what we
-
call atheism
-
frankly and and out of this
-
world the world embraced to the God's
-
really irrelevant even people going to
-
church even theologians started to talk
-
as if he was a set of ideas a set of
-
morals not a living
-
God well there was another contemporary
-
of these
-
two
-
dovi a
-
Christian and he said if God is dead
-
everything is
-
allowed and he prophesied the 20th
-
century you see why do I say we're in a
-
culture of death because These Guys
-
these two philosophers nii and Mark's
-
influence they were both dead the 20th
-
century how well do you know who Adolf
-
Hitler have you heard his
-
name do you know who his favorite
-
philosopher was want to
-
guess
-
nii and he embraced with all of his
-
heart art Superman uberon he could go
-
and take over the world cuz it's all
-
about power and there is no
-
God but being no God then people weren't
-
made in the image of God so what did he
-
do with anybody he didn't
-
like if God is dead everything's allowed
-
do you
-
see and all the fascists killed 62
-
million people in the 20th century think
-
of that
-
and the other fun guy the bearded guy
-
the other guy who hated God he too sent
-
out his men and you know who his biggest
-
fan was there were
-
two
-
lenon and
-
Ma how did they do with their
-
people you see people no longer were
-
made in God's image and so again Fodor
-
dovi if God is everything is allowed and
-
they thought you think you Nazis have it
-
figured out with your 62 million we
-
did
-
115 Million
-
Dead you think we live in a culture of
-
death you see what's happened is the
-
philosophers laid in the 16th century
-
the truth that nii said we've killed God
-
and what's happened in our culture and
-
what you're seeing in your culture is a
-
culture of death that started years
-
before you came around and it hasn't
-
stopped how many people do you really
-
believe in your political leaders
-
believe human beings are made in God's
-
image there's probably
-
some but do you really believe that
-
that's the way the culture looks at
-
it I would argue to you our culture our
-
capitalist economic consumer culture is
-
just as bad
-
they value you as long as you have
-
value but if you don't have value or if
-
you step away from your
-
value well if God is dead everything is
-
allowed
-
so sometime if you're wondering if the
-
culture of dead lives go out to your
-
local friend and say what do you think
-
about The Unborn
-
if you want to see if that is not
-
hopping go ask them about
-
maid and who should get
-
it go ask
-
them about what we should do with those
-
who struggle or those who oppose
-
us go down to imperialist
-
America and ask him what we should do
-
with those who aren't our
-
friends we live in a death
-
cult we live live in a death cult that
-
does not believe people are made in
-
God's image so let me bring it back to
-
my friend at the
-
beginning he did a heinous
-
crime but I guarantee he grew up in the
-
same world I did we were not taught to
-
look at people as made in God's
-
image and so he was an
-
object and if God is
-
dead everything's
-
allowed you see the the problem we have
-
is the same problem the world always has
-
once God gets moved out people get
-
destroyed
-
right yes maybe okay um the tough crowd
-
today and this is predicted by Noah's
-
story do you see that it's predicted
-
what's going to
-
happen
-
H but what about us who know Jesus
-
I mean no one his brothers they didn't
-
have Jesus they didn't even have good
-
news really did they except oh boy we
-
didn't have to go for a
-
swim that was their good
-
news what about
-
us when you're sitting there and you're
-
taking a child as I did out of a home
-
out of the most brutal circumstances
-
what about us who hear these stories
-
about the resurrection and New Life
-
well we have to come to terms with
-
something
-
Christian we live in the not
-
yet whatever else you're going to do
-
whatever else Jesus resurrection did it
-
did not stop
-
evil evil was allowed to rain the neros
-
the the neros the the de I can't think
-
of their
-
names dation thank
-
you the
-
ulas they lived and they persecuted
-
didn't
-
they and yet generation after generation
-
has had Tyrant after Tyrant highlighted
-
by Hitler and Adolf Adolf Hitler
-
and Donald Trump no joking it's a joke
-
that was a joke that was a
-
joke that was a joke I'm really joking
-
okay oh I only because it's out there
-
right now and it's stupid
-
emry wisdom use
-
it but the reality is we do live in a
-
world of suffering of pain and dominance
-
don't we and we live in the not yet and
-
we look around it and here's the other
-
problem here's the worst problem for me
-
I look at myself and I'm going have I
-
changed anyone else been
-
there anybody else have one of those
-
days you're like I'm not sure that what
-
I believe I know how to do
-
right in many ways the Jesus
-
thing doesn't seem to have changed
-
much even Martin
-
Luther we are not yet well we what she
-
we shall be but we are growing towards
-
it the process is not yet finished so in
-
this world we ourselves are on a journey
-
let alone the people around us who deny
-
him so should we be surprised when we
-
see all of the death that's
-
celebrated
-
no
-
no now the good
-
news I left you
-
hanging
-
but something has
-
changed right you see there's something
-
that's changed and there's a reason
-
you're sitting
-
here CU something changed in you
-
because in Jesus Christ unlike the Noah
-
story where there really was no good
-
news in the end he definitely did
-
something this
-
time he brought New Creation he didn't
-
just recreate he didn't just reboot he
-
brought a whole new
-
program and he showed he was doing it
-
remember it his baptism and he's going
-
into those Waters
-
[Music]
-
water and he goes under those Waters
-
and he comes out and what comes down
-
from heaven the Holy Spirit like
-
a what does Noah let out of his
-
boat you don't think there's new
-
creation going on
-
here New Creation not Recreation New
-
Creations
-
come and what does he do he goes on and
-
he brings order and all of a sudden even
-
in his death in John's gospel he's
-
sitting there and what does Eve he calls
-
her
-
woman see when she sees Jesus he thinks
-
he's a what a gardener who's a gardener
-
in the creation
-
story you see it a new Adam what about
-
the thorns and thistles the curse on the
-
ground what happens at that cross what's
-
placed on his
-
head thorns and thistles oh my friends
-
the gospel I could sit here all day and
-
tell you again and again all the
-
symbolism but God beat
-
this he
-
destroyed
-
this in Jesus Christ and he took the
-
number one curse and he hung on the
-
cross and he said it is finished and
-
that's what he was talking
-
about that's what he was talking
-
about and my friends he didn't just
-
leave it there he did something crazy
-
that same spirit that came like a dove
-
that new creation it fell on us the
-
church
-
so we're not the same we're not just
-
Bound by the stuff that some days we
-
feel like we are we have been given the
-
Holy Spirit and what does Paul call us
-
in First Corinthians right after talking
-
about the spirit you all are
-
New
-
Creation he already has come as well and
-
we should celebrate that and we should
-
celebrate Ella cuz that's new creation
-
that's the Fulfillment of bearing fruit
-
this is all good stuff and the great
-
news is we have been changed we really
-
have we can't just live in the sadness
-
I've also been there with people who
-
have changed and watched their lives
-
change because the spirit has come and
-
taken that dead flesh and given them
-
life
-
amen aliser beg the outpour of the
-
spirit of God on the day of Pentecost is
-
the part is part of the saving work of
-
Christ it is the grand finale that he
-
will set forward his purpose and he for
-
his people until the time he returns we
-
have been given that we are not just
-
Bound by what
-
was but now we live in attention don't
-
we do you know why you feel so bummed on
-
those days where you're wondering am I
-
even a Christian do you know why because
-
non-christians aren't worried about
-
that you know why the holy
-
spirit because he wants to see you
-
become truly human to be the man you
-
were created to be the woman you were
-
created to be and that's good news when
-
you feel that conviction it's the
-
greatest gift God gives
-
you next time you think oh God doesn't
-
like me first of all he does and number
-
two I've been stupid that's his gift to
-
remind you of that
-
and you might not like
-
it I can't help but think of my father
-
my father was a a
-
uh uh I don't want to explain it a
-
Prince George
-
dad and so my dad didn't have a lot of
-
what you call touchy feely Progressive
-
ideology and he would come home and I
-
would do something stupid and he'd say
-
boy you're an
-
idiot straight up
-
because I
-
was and you know what he did though is
-
he loved me and he called me out on it
-
and you know what that was the best
-
thing ever I know I'm going to get
-
letters for this you you were abused I
-
wasn't
-
abused I had a dad who loved me and
-
wanted the best for me boy we need more
-
parents like that today and our father
-
comes in and we do suck sometimes and he
-
says
-
hey hello
-
cuz he loves
-
us the already is coming and then he
-
brings that peace and joy doesn't he if
-
you ever been
-
there where you're worshiping and then
-
you feel his
-
love we do have the
-
already and we live in tension but I got
-
a promise I have to end on the
-
best we
-
win Noah didn't know that Shem didn't
-
know that the other guy who I can't
-
can't remember his
-
name JP paath or something forget
-
it because in the end this is what
-
happens it's
-
guaranteed one day that garbage in us
-
that not yet in the world and in us will
-
be
-
gone one day we will be renewed and
-
resurrected we will be the creation he
-
meant to be
-
and yes up to that time we're going to
-
have to listen to people who say God is
-
dead and kill each other because of it
-
but I'm going to quote Carl Bart who
-
clapped back at them and I love this
-
clapping
-
back he said the statement that God Is
-
Dead comes from nii and has recently be
-
trumpeted abroad by some German and
-
American theologians but the good Lord
-
has not
-
died of
-
this he who dwells in the heavens laughs
-
at
-
them because we have a
-
resurrection so what about the
-
now well now we live with our eyes
-
focused focused on that day and we live
-
today in our Brokenness like that is
-
true and we wait for it with
-
longing and we become the most
-
optimistic realist there's ever
-
been realist cuz the world is what it is
-
but optimistic cuz the kingdom is
-
coming Austina hippo he who loves the
-
coming of the Lord is not he who affirms
-
that it is far
-
off nor is it he who says it is
-
near it is he who whether it be far or
-
near awaits it with sincere Faith
-
steadfast hope and fervent
-
love a started with a
-
murder here's the craziest part if he
-
had done that in the time of Noah there
-
was no hope and there was evil and he
-
would have been
-
killed but he did that post the
-
resurrection and here's the craziest
-
part that murderer could be
-
saved he could encounter the Living God
-
in Jesus Christ that's how good it is
-
and if he did even for the awful things
-
he did and he
-
did he could be like the rest of us and
-
looking for the kingdom that's
-
coming going to end with aliser beg the
-
return of Jesus is an absolute certainty
-
it is personal visible Cosmic and
-
glorious
-
live your life like that's
-
true live it like it's true when you've
-
had a terrible
-
day live it like it's true when you've
-
had a beautiful
-
day live it like it's
-
true in
-
confession live it like it's true in
-
praise and one day you will see
-
it and it's going to be better than
-
anything you could have
-
imagined and you will hear the those
-
words on that
-
day well done my good and faithful
-
servant let's
-
pray Heavenly Father we thank you that
-
you're faithful that you blessed Noah we
-
thank you that you have blessed
-
us we live in a world that's Dark Lord
-
but you have redeemed it remind us even
-
in the darkest times that you were King
-
of Kings people who are here that are
-
going through the darkness we ask you to
-
lift it to remind them that you've
-
already
-
won and that you have
-
overcome and remind us that the days are
-
short that you will
-
return help us to focus on that fill us
-
with your spirit so we may be New
-
Creations and light in this world
-
and make us a
-
people that when they walk by us our
-
neighbors our friends or strangers they
-
say these people have been with
-
Jesus amen
