  2. Old Testament reading comes from Ezekiel

  3. 36

  4. 22-28.

  5. Therefore I say to the house of Israel,

  6. thus says the Lord God, it is not for

  7. your sake, oh house of Israel, that I am

  8. about to act, but for the sake of my

  9. holy name, which you have profained

  10. among the nations to which you came.

  11. And I will vindicate the holiness of my

  12. great name which has been profained

  13. among the nations and which you have

  14. profained among them. And the nations

  15. will know that I am the Lord, declares

  16. the Lord God. When through you I

  17. vindicate my holiness before their eyes.

  18. I will take you from the nations and

  19. gather you from all the countries and

  20. bring you into your own land. I will

  21. sprinkle clean water on you and you

  22. shall be clean from all your

  23. uncleannesses and from all your idols I

  24. will cleanse you and I will give you a

  25. new heart and a new spirit I will put

  26. within you and I will remove the heart

  27. of stone from your flesh and give you a

  28. heart of flesh and I will put my spirit

  29. within you and cause you to walk in my

  30. statutes and be careful to obey all my

  31. rules. You shall dwell in the land that

  32. I gave to your fathers and you shall be

  33. my people and I will be your God. Our

  34. New Testament reading comes from John

  35. 3:es 1-13.

  36. Now there was a man of the Pharisees

  37. named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

  38. This man came to Jesus by night and said

  39. to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a

  40. teacher come from God, for no one can do

  41. these signs that you do unless God is

  42. with him." Jesus answered him, "Truly,

  43. truly, I say to you, unless one is born

  44. again, he cannot see the kingdom of

  45. God."

  46. Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be

  47. born when he is old? Can he enter a

  48. second time into his mother's womb and

  49. be born?

  50. Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to

  51. you, unless one is born of water and the

  52. spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of

  53. God. That which is born of flesh is

  54. flesh, and that which is born of the

  55. spirit is spirit." Do not marvel that I

  56. said to you, you must be born again. The

  57. wind blows where it wishes, and you hear

  58. its sound, but you do not know where it

  59. comes from or where it goes. So it is

  60. with everyone who is born of the

  61. spirit."

  62. Nicodemus said to him, "How can these

  63. things be?" Jesus answered him, "Are you

  64. the teacher of Israel, and yet you do

  65. not understand these things?

  66. Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of

  67. what we know and bear witness to what we

  68. have seen, but you do not receive our

  69. testimony.

  70. If I have told you earthly things and

  71. you do not believe, how can you believe

  72. if I tell you heavenly things?

  73. No one has ascended into heaven except

  74. he who descended from heaven, the Son of

  75. Man. This is the word of the Lord.

  76. >> Thanks be to God.

  77. Thank you. Um, I ran out to get some

  78. sinus pills. I didn't have to use the

  79. bathroom. I just want to clarify

  80. cuz I know you're all thinking it. So,

  81. it's it's much more mundane than most

  82. people think.

  83. Um,

  84. you know, there's a a myth, I call it a

  85. very strong myth in our culture that

  86. there will be a separation of uh church

  87. and state. Have you heard this? I'm

  88. going to tell you something. It is not

  89. going to happen. It's not going to

  90. happen on the right and it's not going

  91. to happen on the left. Within the last

  92. week, I saw a picture and they're all

  93. sitting around the Oval Office praying

  94. and laying hands on Donald Trump. It's

  95. not a judgment. Just saying this is a

  96. myth that we accept.

  97. And then and this is what I'll be

  98. speaking on today. I got inundated after

  99. Tuesday about some guy from Texas who

  100. won the Democrat primary. You see, I got

  101. hit because he claims to be a

  102. Presbyterian.

  103. And they're going, "What is this guy

  104. saying?"

  105. His name is Here he is. He's cute. Jim

  106. Tali Yako.

  107. Kind of think he looks like the guy from

  108. the Mad Magazine. You remember that guy

  109. a little bit. You won't unsee it now.

  110. Anyways,

  111. I'm not here to talk about his politics,

  112. which I can guess, but that wasn't what

  113. everyone was sending me. See, Mr.

  114. Talako, he sells himself as a Christian,

  115. and that's his main political move. and

  116. he sells himself as a true Christian who

  117. really understands. Warning number one,

  118. when somebody says they've got it

  119. figured out and 2,000 years missed it,

  120. that's a red flag. If you're on a date

  121. with a guy like that, hit the other way.

  122. [snorts]

  123. So, here's this guy. He got up and of

  124. course, I'm getting nothing but boom,

  125. boom, boom, boom, boom. And I got uh

  126. what did he say? We should be ashamed of

  127. our whiteness. Whiteness is a virus

  128. because God showed him that.

  129. We should uh um be feminists because we

  130. need the Gospel of Thomas which is a

  131. long thrown out considered a heresy

  132. text.

  133. Um he also said of course all of the

  134. things that the world says around

  135. sexuality and gender. In fact, he told

  136. us that uh there are not just two

  137. genders but six genders and that God

  138. himself is non-binary.

  139. He's a very busy guy and he did all this

  140. from the uh place of being a he's some

  141. sort of a state representative. Now he's

  142. going to be the Senate person. Now the

  143. reason I bring him up is not because

  144. he's new. By the way, the crazy

  145. theology, and I'm not yet done with you,

  146. Jimmy, um, that he speaks has been going

  147. around for a while. It's exactly exactly

  148. because somebody like him has the

  149. worldview he has. That, by the way, in

  150. case you're wondering why the

  151. Presbyterians, Anglicans, Lutherans, and

  152. United are all dead.

  153. Because these guys got control of the

  154. top.

  155. Okay? And these guys are very, very

  156. political. He wants to use his politics

  157. and he sees it as he'll use his religion

  158. in Texas. Remember this is Texas

  159. where he's going to tell everyone that

  160. they don't really have God figured out.

  161. In fact, the God they have is one of

  162. many gods. He says,

  163. that's what he says. There is no one

  164. way. There is no one truth. He says,

  165. "Somehow I think in Texas that dog's not

  166. going to hunt."

  167. Why do I bring him up?

  168. Because there's nothing new.

  169. There is nothing new.

  170. People are always seeking political

  171. power and people are always using

  172. religion to get it.

  173. And the question is,

  174. are they right to do so?

  175. or how can they get it so wrong when

  176. they don't?

  177. You see, I've been asked over the years,

  178. every time I teach a gospel text, people

  179. ask me, "If these Pharisees knew so

  180. much, if they had memorized the Gospels,

  181. if they had done all of these things, if

  182. they had worked, they were the doctors

  183. of the time, how could they have got it

  184. wrong?"

  185. I'm going to give you a little hint

  186. right now. You ready?

  187. There's nothing that will blind

  188. a person more than religion.

  189. And there's nothing that will destroy a

  190. soul as one who thinks they're right

  191. with God who is not.

  192. Let's pray.

  193. Heavenly Father, we thank you so much

  194. for your grace to us.

  195. We thank you for your love and your

  196. care.

  197. Help us to see you through this time.

  198. Help us to be a part of who you are

  199. and make us a people

  200. that seek after you and you alone.

  201. And give us the discernment to point to

  202. those who are not

  203. who are telling us about you but don't

  204. know you.

  205. Amen.

  206. Well, let me go back to another guy who

  207. was very very very very very very very

  208. political, very different politics and

  209. very very very very religious and he

  210. used his very very very very deep

  211. political pockets to make himself a very

  212. very popular leader and his name was

  213. Nick. Nicodemus. That is one thing you

  214. got to know about Nick is Nick was a

  215. Pharisee. And these guys were a very

  216. humble lot in the sense of they called

  217. themselves the separate ones. In other

  218. words, they didn't hang out with the

  219. rest. We're separate. We're above.

  220. And these guys were very political in

  221. the sense of they were very concerned

  222. about Israel's geopolitical health.

  223. See, they have been under the under the

  224. thumb of Rome for a long time. And

  225. before that, the Greeks and the

  226. Egyptians and you name who else has been

  227. above them.

  228. And these Pharisees are longing for

  229. deliverance, longing for it. And so what

  230. they've done is they're a people of God.

  231. Then they become they become to this

  232. point where they figure out what

  233. religious system will save us which will

  234. get God to send his deliverer down, his

  235. Messiah.

  236. Now, I'm not talking Trump Messiah. I'm

  237. talking Messiah.

  238. I say Trump Messiah because that's what

  239. people call him. Not him.

  240. This guy they're looking for is not a

  241. politician who wins

  242. once every four years.

  243. This guy is going to come with a sword

  244. mighty and powerful and wipe out us

  245. Gentiles. That's what they long for. And

  246. the reason why Nicodemus is walking

  247. around Israel interviewing people like

  248. Jesus is he wants to make sure they got

  249. the religion right so that God will

  250. forgive them and then blessings will

  251. fall on the land.

  252. You see for them they believed the truth

  253. that said in seven days if seven days we

  254. can keep Torah this was a Pharisee

  255. saying then God will deliver us and send

  256. his deliverer. They believed that and

  257. they longed for this wonderful day. So

  258. when Nicodemus comes in, he is a

  259. politician, religious figure like James

  260. Talico. They're the exact same in that

  261. sense. Their theology not so much.

  262. And he's coming in and he's looking at

  263. Jesus and he's looking at Jesus

  264. questioning, is this guy going to throw

  265. things off or is he going to set things

  266. right? Okay. And you got to remember

  267. this is important because one thing

  268. Nicodemus knew is we're saved because of

  269. our bloodline.

  270. Because we're Jews, that's why we're

  271. saved. We're not going to heaven, by the

  272. way. We're going to get a resurrection.

  273. That's what he longed for. We're saved

  274. by that. And we keep that salvation by

  275. obeying Torah. Okay? That's what he

  276. believed. And he's coming in to make

  277. sure Jesus is the same view that this is

  278. how you remain as it were a people of

  279. God.

  280. Well, he puts Jesus under trial.

  281. Unfortunately, Jesus, as he always does,

  282. flips the script.

  283. Now, there was a man of the Pharisees

  284. named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

  285. So, right there, we see they got the

  286. religious and the political in one.

  287. This man came to Jesus by night. Well,

  288. there's a hint for us, my friends.

  289. John's gospel uses day and night so

  290. beautifully. Every time it's a day, they

  291. have revelation. They see Jesus, the

  292. woman at the well. It's in the highest

  293. point of the day, revelation.

  294. But when it's dark and it's in the deep

  295. dark, like it says here in this

  296. particular Greek word, we don't expect

  297. that. We expect blindness.

  298. And said to him, Raboni, this is not a

  299. rabbi as we understand it today. They

  300. didn't have positional rabbis. This was

  301. a position of teacher, someone who might

  302. be an itinerant preacher that walked

  303. around Jerusalem. They won't have

  304. professional rabbis till after the

  305. temple falls and there's a different

  306. style of Jud Judaism.

  307. So he goes, Raboni,

  308. we know that you are a teacher come from

  309. God. That's pretty high praise.

  310. He's saying to them, we know you're a

  311. teacher come from God because no one can

  312. do these signs that you do unless God is

  313. with him.

  314. What are the signs he's talking about?

  315. We don't know all of them. But the

  316. wedding at the the wedding at Kaa

  317. perhaps he thought even the cleansing of

  318. the temple was a sign.

  319. We don't know. But the one point he's

  320. trying to say is you would ne we would

  321. not know you or we recognize you as a

  322. man of God because you have done these

  323. signs. That's why we know. And that's

  324. wonderful. and he's laying the

  325. foundation and you can say that they are

  326. giving him the stamp of approval of

  327. Pharisees. Do you see that? They think

  328. they are judging him whether he's

  329. allowed to work in their world. Right?

  330. You know, one thing I like about Jesus,

  331. he flips the script pretty quick

  332. and within 10 seconds,

  333. Nicodemus realizes it's he

  334. that's under judgment. It's he that's in

  335. the dock.

  336. Jesus began and he answered him, "Truly,

  337. truly, oh, when you hear those two

  338. amens, that means you better pay

  339. attention, my friend. I say to you,

  340. unless one is born again, it says in our

  341. text." But here's my problem with that

  342. Greek word, and I think this is why we

  343. get this whole text mixed up sometimes.

  344. That Greek word means two things

  345. equally.

  346. Yes, it means born again. But more

  347. likely in this case, it's born from

  348. above. Okay? So, it could mean born

  349. again or born from above.

  350. Unless one is born above or again, we're

  351. going to go with that. He cannot see the

  352. kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is

  353. that's the language they used of

  354. salvation.

  355. This was the time when the king would

  356. come in and God would rule over the

  357. nation again and they will never see it

  358. unless they are born as Nicodemus hears

  359. this again because he can only hear it

  360. through the physical world. But I

  361. believe Jesus is saying born from above.

  362. I'll show you why. Nicodemus says as we

  363. would all do if we were asking ourselves

  364. him some questions. We're like he just

  365. said to him you're such a good guy and a

  366. a teacher. And Jesus throws back to you,

  367. you got to be born again. His first

  368. answer is probably the logical one most

  369. of us would say. How can a man be born

  370. when he is old?

  371. Like in other words, you're nuts.

  372. How can he enter? Can he enter a a a

  373. second time into his mother's womb and

  374. be born? Obviously, the question is no.

  375. Or it would take a miracle. It's

  376. interesting he says that because he just

  377. told Jesus that, "Wow, you're quite the

  378. miracle worker.

  379. doesn't it? But all he can do is hear

  380. this born again through the physical

  381. world. He can only see it through the

  382. literal.

  383. But Jesus is going to do something much

  384. greater than that. Jesus says to him,

  385. "Truly, truly I say unto you, oh double

  386. truly trulies." You got to really listen

  387. to this. Unless one is born of water and

  388. spirit,

  389. he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

  390. Now, this has led to some very unusual

  391. commentaries.

  392. What does he mean? Some people think,

  393. well, he must mean the water of baptism

  394. and the spirit of Pentecost.

  395. The problem with that is, how would

  396. Nicodemus have any reference for that?

  397. Right.

  398. Well, what about the birth? Born of

  399. birthly water. You know, the water that

  400. happens when you're born and then some

  401. sort of spirit person you become later.

  402. That's another translation.

  403. That must be it, right? Well, no.

  404. Well, how do we know what he means? Why

  405. is he

  406. using these words? And why will he in a

  407. bit give Nicodemus heck for not knowing

  408. this? He says, "You're a teacher of God.

  409. How can you not know this?" Well, what

  410. book did Nicodemus live out of every

  411. day? Do you remember

  412. the Old Testament, the Jewish

  413. scriptures, the prophets? Right? So,

  414. there's something about being born into

  415. water and the spirit

  416. that they should know.

  417. And Jesus is saying, "And you don't know

  418. this because you're too caught up in

  419. this world."

  420. So if we were to figure out what it

  421. means, Jesus says, "To be born of the

  422. water and the spirit, where should we

  423. then go to figure this out?"

  424. I'm going to say it. If you're not going

  425. to say it, the Old Testament, right? The

  426. prophets.

  427. I'm telling you what, I just saw a study

  428. that said 75% of evangelical children

  429. under 50 think the Old Testament is pass

  430. and shouldn't be read.

  431. So encouraging.

  432. You can't understand Jesus Christ. You

  433. cannot understand the gospel. You'll

  434. never understand Paul unless you get the

  435. Old Testament down. Okay.

  436. So what do we do? We go back to our Old

  437. Testament and we go to the point where

  438. God is promising that he's going to

  439. bring them out of exile. That's what

  440. Jesus is promising. I'm going to take

  441. you out of exile. This one great time

  442. where he would take them out of exile

  443. and then he would do something among

  444. them so that they would be his people.

  445. Okay? And that one spot is right after

  446. the dry bones in Ezekiel and it's

  447. Ezekiel 36:28

    Ezekiel 36:28

  448. 24-28. And listen to what it says.

  449. I will take you from the nations and

  450. gather you from all the countries and I

  451. will bring you into your own land. I'm

  452. going to take you out of exile.

  453. I will sprinkle clean

  454. water. I will sprinkle clean water on

  455. you and you shall be clean from all your

  456. uncleanliness and from all your idols I

  457. will cleanse you. What just happened in

  458. chapter 2 at the wedding of Canaa? What

  459. was that all about?

  460. Do you remember yet?

  461. There were the jugs of that you could

  462. wash the uncleanliness off yourself. Do

  463. you remember that? They remember the

  464. uncleanliness. Jesus turns them into

  465. water. What does the water mean?

  466. The blood of Christ, right?

  467. He goes up onto the cross and he takes

  468. the old wine. Only place he drinks it,

  469. right?

  470. drinks it. But out of him comes when

  471. they cut his side, blood and water.

  472. The cleansing water comes out of his

  473. side. He took in the bad and he comes in

  474. and he cleanses up and out of his side

  475. comes blood and water.

  476. So when he says, "I will sprinkle clean

  477. water on you," he's talking about the

  478. blood of Christ.

  479. That is the fulfillment. This is what

  480. must happen.

  481. And what does John's epistle say? And we

  482. will be cleansed by the blood of Jesus.

  483. So that's the first part. That's the

  484. water. And you shall be clean from all

  485. your uncleanliness and from your idols.

  486. We will be cleansed. But Ezekiel doesn't

  487. end there.

  488. And I will give you a new heart and a

  489. new

  490. right there.

  491. Jesus is saying to this guy who says he

  492. knows the Old Testament that you need to

  493. have water and spirit. And it's right

  494. there in his text. And no wonder he's

  495. mad that he doesn't get it. And a new

  496. spirit I will put within you. And I'll

  497. remove your heart of stone from your

  498. flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And

  499. I will put my spirit within you.

  500. This is what we need for salvation.

  501. Pentecost, right, folks? and cause you

  502. to walk in my statutes and be careful to

  503. obey my rules. And when he says, you

  504. shall dwell in the land that I gave your

  505. fathers and you,

  506. you people who have been cleansed by the

  507. water, you people who have been filled

  508. with the spirit shall be my people and I

  509. will be your God.

  510. What Jesus is saying is this was always

  511. the plan of how you become part of the

  512. people of God. Nicodemus says you have

  513. to have the right right bloodline and

  514. obey tra. What Ezekiel was pointing to

  515. and what Jesus is pointing to is it was

  516. always we had to have our sins cleansed

  517. and a new spirit put within us.

  518. And Nicodemus cannot comprehend this.

  519. Then Jesus says that which is born of

  520. flesh is flesh and that which is born of

  521. spirit is spirit. Well, this can become

  522. confusing because now is he talk about

  523. is this what he talking about birth

  524. again born of the flesh is a little baby

  525. versus some sort of spirit baby.

  526. Not at all because we have to know what

  527. the word flesh means. The flesh doesn't

  528. just mean your body.

  529. The flesh means every part of you that's

  530. that is in contrast to the living God.

  531. Every part of you in rebellion with God.

  532. Some of times that means the physical

  533. body, but it just as much means your

  534. spiritual intent, your physical intent,

  535. your psychological intent. And what he's

  536. saying is that which is born of flesh,

  537. the first Adam,

  538. is someone who has no ability to be

  539. saved because they are bound to their

  540. natural desires.

  541. Okay? That's what it means to be born in

  542. the flesh. And all of us, by the way,

  543. have been born in the flesh, in case you

  544. didn't know.

  545. That's why we do really stupid things.

  546. And we think we're better than the other

  547. people down the pew who think who do

  548. really stupid things, too.

  549. That's our natural condition. And what

  550. Jesus is saying, that which is born of

  551. like Adam is like Adam. And that which

  552. is born of the spirit, this gift that

  553. comes from above that falls upon us.

  554. Praise God for Pentecost, my friends,

  555. because we wouldn't be the church.

  556. That which is born of the spirit is

  557. spirit. And we become alive new because

  558. we're no longer bound just to our

  559. natural desires, but the spirit comes

  560. in, takes shelter in us, and begins to

  561. make us look like him.

  562. Does that make sense?

  563. He says, "Do not marvel that I said to

  564. you that you must be born from above."

  565. Then he says this, "The wind wind blows

  566. where it wishes and you hear it sound."

  567. What is the spirit's metaphor throughout

  568. scripture? God's breath or wind.

  569. But you do not know where it comes from

  570. or where it is going. Oh, what a slight

  571. to a Nicodemus whose religion's got

  572. things tight.

  573. You have no idea what's going on. So it

  574. is with everyone who is born of the

  575. spirit. You cannot tell who's going to

  576. get this stuff. Oh boy, that's going to

  577. shake up the sociological cart.

  578. This is a threat to the very core of

  579. what does it mean to be Israel? Because

  580. next thing you know, if you say that,

  581. maybe the wind blows on those Gentiles.

  582. Maybe it blows on a Sadducee. Do you

  583. see?

  584. Nicodemus said to him, "How can these

  585. things be?" Here we go. Jesus answered,

  586. "Are you a teacher of Israel and you do

  587. not yet understand these things?" He has

  588. spent his life studying Ezekiel and all

  589. of these things. And yet he has such a

  590. warped theological view that only good

  591. Jews could make it.

  592. Truly, truly, I say unto you, and now he

  593. flips it. Remember they said, he said,

  594. Nicodemus at the beginning, we know

  595. you're from God. Watch what Jesus does.

  596. I love this move. I say to you, we who

  597. do you think he means by we?

  598. Father, Son, and Spirit. He hasn't got

  599. anybody else around him.

  600. We speak of what we know and bear

  601. witness to what we have seen. And then

  602. goes back to chapter one. But you do not

  603. receive our testimony. The religious

  604. people are sure of themselves and yet

  605. they completely deny Christ.

  606. If I had told you earthly things, he

  607. says, in other words, if I explain this

  608. like spirit and water in earthly ways

  609. and you do not believe, how can you

  610. believe if I tell you of heavenly

  611. things? If I start telling you of things

  612. you can't know because you haven't been

  613. there,

  614. you don't even understand what I'm

  615. talking about that I've shown the

  616. prophets in the in the in this world.

  617. And then he goes, "No one has ascended

  618. into heaven." They used to say a lot of

  619. people ascended into heaven in the mid

  620. mid between the testaments. Lots of

  621. stories. You got guys hopping on um

  622. chariots. You got lots of this stuff

  623. going up. Jesus' point is no one has

  624. ascended to heaven except he who

  625. descended from heaven. The only one

  626. who's been to heaven that can actually

  627. tell you what's going on is his main

  628. point is he who descended from heaven.

  629. And then he uses the son of man. And

  630. what does the son of man do in Daniel 7?

  631. He ascends to the ancient of days,

  632. doesn't he?

  633. So here he's playing on the fact that he

  634. is the only one, and this is the

  635. important point, that can tell this

  636. truth. And he is trying to tell them,

  637. and they don't even understand.

  638. They can't even understand. Even though

  639. he's told the prophets, even though he's

  640. pointed them that something very

  641. different was going to happen, they were

  642. unable because they had a worldview.

  643. They had a tight worldview. They had a

  644. cultural worldview and they preached out

  645. of that.

  646. You see, the problem Nicodemus had is

  647. the same problem James Talico has and

  648. everyone else who decides to use

  649. religion for power

  650. or used God in a wrong way. We all are

  651. born blind.

  652. I can't say this enough.

  653. Every one of us by our nature are blind

  654. to who God is. And that includes all of

  655. us.

  656. That all of us do not see correctly.

  657. After that moment

  658. where we gave up that relationship with

  659. God,

  660. what happened was we started to worship

  661. idols. And the scripture describes the

  662. worshiping of idols as being without

  663. sight,

  664. being without be able to hear, without

  665. being able to speak because we become

  666. like the stone idols because we make

  667. them in our image. And we're all bound

  668. by this. There's not one person on this

  669. planet that sees the kingdom.

  670. Not one.

  671. But there's lots of people who don't see

  672. who say they do. James Talico,

  673. Nicodemus.

  674. What do you do with that? In our

  675. culture, we're just told to be nice.

  676. Well, he must liked God somewhat. He's

  677. just he he talked about God. He's so

  678. nice. We need to have to empathy with

  679. him. Let's not shake the couple card.

  680. Who cares if he leads everyone astray?

  681. Let me give you an example of why I'm

  682. saying this. Mr. Talico was preaching in

  683. a church

  684. and I've never heard anything like this.

  685. This took some hubris, man. He got up

  686. and said that we should have abortions.

  687. Ready for this? Because of the virgin

  688. birth.

  689. I'm not online. You can look this up,

  690. right? It's it's there. And you also

  691. realize that the crowd in the

  692. congregation are all very old white

  693. people.

  694. And his argument was this that the angel

  695. came down and said, "Hey,

  696. do you want to have a baby?"

  697. And he said, "Mary got to say no. She

  698. had a choice."

  699. So God showing us we have a choice.

  700. So go off and knock those babies out of

  701. your wombs, babies, cuz you're like

  702. Mary. Actually, you're a Catholic.

  703. That's a great thing.

  704. Doesn't actually say that, by the way.

  705. Go back and look. He says, Mary is I

  706. have found favor on you. I actually did

  707. double check because I thought I must

  708. have missed something. [clears throat]

  709. And he says, you will be having this.

  710. And then she says, "In the end, let it

  711. be done as to me as you will." Do you

  712. remember that? That's hardly her making

  713. a choice. He's already said it's going

  714. to happen, right?

  715. How can somebody say that abortion is

  716. okay through the very high point of

  717. creation, the creation of the living

  718. God? That if that doesn't shock you,

  719. nothing will.

  720. How in the world could someone be that

  721. evil?

  722. and it is evil. Well, guess what guys?

  723. I'm actually enjoying this because I've

  724. been hanging around this because I'm a

  725. Presbyterian and there's lots of James

  726. Talos in my denomination and they're all

  727. as dumb as him.

  728. They really are. And they're all going

  729. to go meet soon at a place called

  730. General Assembly and they're all going

  731. to talk and they're all going to make

  732. themselves universally dumber.

  733. And they are.

  734. and they have creeped into the Anglican

  735. church and the United Church and the

  736. Lutheran Church and they are heretics.

  737. I'll say it, I'll look right on the

  738. thing and I'm not scared of them at all.

  739. The only thing I like in life at times

  740. and I shouldn't is when I they'll

  741. actually take the risk of to debate me.

  742. Oh, I love that

  743. it's all about power and prestige. And

  744. this man, the only reason I'm mentioning

  745. it is not because of his politics. I

  746. don't care about his politics. But when

  747. he goes out there and says, "I'm a

  748. Presbyterian seminarian and this is

  749. truth." Some Presbyterian better get up

  750. and say he's full of crap.

  751. Let me be the first to say he's

  752. absolutely full of crap.

  753. Okay?

  754. And I'm not saying now let's become

  755. fundamentalists or Christian

  756. nationalists. Please believe me.

  757. What I'm saying is that we are all born

  758. blind and there are people out there who

  759. say they see and they don't. And Jesus

  760. had a special little thing for them.

  761. Let's look on in John. Then Jesus told

  762. him, "I entered this world to render

  763. judgment, to give sight to the blind,

  764. and to show those that think they see

  765. that they are blind.

  766. Some Pharisees who were standing nearby

  767. heard him and asked, "Are you saying

  768. we're blind?

  769. If you were blind, you wouldn't be

  770. guilty."

  771. Jesus replied, "But you remain guilty

  772. because you claim to see."

  773. Our Lord came to do something wonderful

  774. and that is give us sight. And I can

  775. assure you, my friends, there are people

  776. in religion and in politics who really

  777. want to keep you from getting that. And

  778. they need to be called out just like

  779. Paul did.

  780. The advice of Oswald Chamber at this

  781. point I want to share because this has

  782. bothered me. Trust no one, not even the

  783. finest saint who ever walked the earth.

  784. Ignore him if he hinders your sight of

  785. Jesus Christ.

  786. James Talico was leading them away from

  787. Jesus Christ. So was Nicodemus, by the

  788. way.

  789. I'm not talking about how moral they

  790. are. I'm telling you, they were out.

  791. So how do we go from there? Well, let's

  792. go with Jesus.

  793. Number one, sight is given only by God.

  794. Here's the truth that I've learned over

  795. my limited time. First of all, and I

  796. will be the first to tell you in the

  797. academic, theological, re religious

  798. world, I have met some of the most

  799. amazing Christian people. So, it's not a

  800. correlation to that.

  801. But I will tell you one thing. I've also

  802. sound found some pretty amazing awesome

  803. Christian people in all walks of life.

  804. I've met them in jail. I've met them in

  805. pubs.

  806. I've met them all over. It was a plumber

  807. in my house one time who blew my mind on

  808. his faith. You see, because that wind is

  809. blowing and it isn't just blowing in

  810. here right now.

  811. That wind of the spirit that is opening

  812. eyes can go everywhere and touch anyone.

  813. And if we think it can't happen,

  814. we've missed who Jesus is.

  815. The truth is there is nothing in us that

  816. deserves to see the good news as he

  817. wants us to see.

  818. Carl Bart said the reference to this

  819. unique event of salvation in a man's

  820. life which can be expected and affected

  821. only from above from God. The event of

  822. his total transportion into one who may

  823. see the kingdom of God and who may thus

  824. enter it receiving active part is

  825. receiving an active part in its

  826. establishment. The references to you a

  827. unique event in a man's life that cannot

  828. be expected

  829. cannot be put on by us.

  830. That is what he's talking about. He's

  831. talking about an event where you and I

  832. awake to Jesus Christ.

  833. And that is by the grace of God alone.

  834. And it has nothing to do with when we

  835. think we figured it out. In fact, if we

  836. think we figured it out, guess what? You

  837. might want to wonder on where you're at.

  838. You want to know how I know this is

  839. true? I'm pretty educated guy. I know

  840. scripture pretty well. And I'm going to

  841. tell you, when the Lord hit me and he

  842. opened his eyes and he decided to bless

  843. me with his Holy Spirit, I was so smart.

  844. I thought that going to a job thing at a

  845. church meant it was about a job

  846. opportunity.

  847. That's the brilliance of Emory. But I

  848. loved the Lord

  849. and I began to see it and I began to

  850. fall in love with it and I kept it

  851. going. I'm telling you right now,

  852. Nicodemus, who you knew so much, there

  853. are going to be people that are going to

  854. surprise you, like prostitutes and tax

  855. collectors who are going to follow Jesus

  856. Christ pretty soon,

  857. and they're not going to look right,

  858. even Gentiles,

  859. because it's only given by God.

  860. And he only gives it this one way, and

  861. this is what we need.

  862. water and spirit.

  863. See, once he touches us, there's two

  864. things that make us the people of God.

  865. It isn't our bloodline. It's not even

  866. particularly our confession. Our

  867. confessions are great. It points out to

  868. who we already are, but something else

  869. has to happen. Number one, we have to be

  870. cleansed inside.

  871. You and I are dirty.

  872. We are unclean. We are unholy. We need

  873. something to step in. And that's what

  874. the cross is about.

  875. When he died for our sins, he provided

  876. the forgiveness and the cleansing into

  877. our very inner being to wash that which

  878. needs to go to the depth of our hateful,

  879. harmful intentions.

  880. When you come to this table today, what

  881. a gift.

  882. And the blood of Christ will wash us

  883. clean from our sin.

  884. What a gift to us who, by the way, I

  885. know the little secret that we all keep

  886. sinning. What a gift for us who feel

  887. like we need to be cleansed again to

  888. come up back to this table. Wasn't this

  889. great?

  890. Because it represents what he does in

  891. us. We need the water. We need the

  892. cleansing. We need to be set free.

  893. But it doesn't end there. We need his

  894. spirit.

  895. The difference between religion and

  896. faith is the Holy Spirit.

  897. Anyone can be religious,

  898. but only one can live in faith and be

  899. part of the people of God when one has a

  900. taste and a filling of the Holy Spirit.

  901. Because if you live by your flesh,

  902. whether you're religious or not, it

  903. leads to destruction.

  904. But if you live by your spirit, that

  905. spirit that's put in you, you get new

  906. life.

  907. You get life out of death. And he has

  908. given it to us.

  909. This is just Romans, isn't it? Romans 8.

  910. For those who live according to the

  911. flesh set their minds on the things of

  912. the flesh, but those who live according

  913. to the spirit set their minds on the

  914. things of the spirit. For to set your

  915. mind on the flesh is death, but to set

  916. the mind on the spirit is life and

  917. peace.

  918. The only way that can happen is if God

  919. encounters us, if God awakens us, and if

  920. God shows us. And the only thing I can

  921. say to Nicodemus and James Talico is you

  922. need to be saved.

  923. The good news maybe Nicodemus was

  924. according to history. The good news is

  925. maybe James will be too.

  926. But let us stop playing games and

  927. saying, "Oh, that's just another nice."

  928. It's his perspective.

  929. I'm so sick of that crap.

  930. Because it destroys souls and empties

  931. churches.

  932. The thing about this book and what Jesus

  933. is trying to do is get us to have new

  934. life.

  935. That's the whole point. He wants you and

  936. me to read and study and get all this.

  937. He wants you and I to be different, to

  938. have life, to have abundant life, to

  939. have life overflowing.

  940. I mean, read it again. But these are

  941. written to you that you may believe

  942. Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God,

  943. and by believing you may have life in

  944. his name. Let me assure you, my friends,

  945. that life in his name will only come

  946. through his spirit and his water

  947. by your sin being cleansed and your eyes

  948. being open. And when your eyes are

  949. opened, you will start to see garbage

  950. for what it is.

  951. When you have that spirit cleansed you

  952. and you have someone getting up and

  953. saying, "Well, God doesn't really care

  954. what you do with your body."

  955. I mean, this man is walking around with

  956. theological reasons to have children

  957. have their body parts chopped off if

  958. they're confused about their gender.

  959. That and he makes theological arguments

  960. for it.

  961. Even the world's saying that's a bad

  962. idea.

  963. That's not life.

  964. But we have life

  965. in Jesus Christ.

  966. Lesie Nubigan

  967. first that to experience the kingship of

  968. God as a present reality not merely a

  969. future hope can only be the result of an

  970. act of God himself.

  971. It is always a miracle, a mystery, an

  972. action from above.

  973. It is not and can never be the direct

  974. result either of the reasoning of the

  975. theologian or the technique of the

  976. successful evangelists.

  977. Second, and this is so important, to

  978. experience the kingship of God as a

  979. present reality is not simply a matter

  980. of illumination. It is a matter of

  981. regeneration.

  982. It is not just now seeing but now

  983. believing.

  984. My friends,

  985. don't listen to this garbage.

  986. This person is saying there's no need

  987. for regeneration. Just keep doing what

  988. the world says.

  989. I'm promising you that part that's

  990. broken that you hate, God's regenerating

  991. that.

  992. That part that you have done in your

  993. life that you know is wrong, he's

  994. cleansing you from it.

  995. and he is putting new life within you.

  996. This is the good news. This is the

  997. kingdom of God.

  998. This is the only thing worth living for.

  999. You are going to hear about this guy and

  1000. you're going to hear he's a

  1001. Presbyterian.

  1002. Remember what I said.

1003. He's may be Presbyterian on label, but

1004. he's not biblical or a minister in

  1005. truth.

  1006. Let's pray.

1007. Heavenly Father, we thank you for your

1008. amazing grace. We thank you that you

1009. have poured your spirit down upon us.

1010. We thank you that you are faithful.

1011. I pray personally for James Terko

1012. that his eyes will be open that he will

  1013. see.

1014. I pray for those who are under his

1015. teaching that their ears will be blocked

  1016. from his lies.

1017. I pray Lord that you by your spirit will
