  1. Amen. Amen. All right. Thank you. Uh,

  2. you probably know the name David, the

  3. biblical figure. And whether or not you

  4. are like super biblically knowledgeable

  5. or maybe less so, you know David because

  6. of the famous fight he had with Goliath,

  7. right? It is the stuff of underdogs

  8. defeating the um the overdog,

  9. the favorite. Um

  10. David ends up being the fir uh not the

  11. first but the second king of Israel.

  12. And for the first, call it 20 years of

  13. his 40-year reign, it's really

  14. successful. Like he is conquering all

  15. the neighboring enemies of Israel,

  16. expanding the territory. It's win after

  17. win after win. And then David gets it in

  18. his head. He's like, "You know what? I

  19. want to build a building for God. I want

  20. to build a temple." See, up to that

  21. point, since the Exodus and Moses, the

  22. people of Israel had been meeting with

  23. God in a tabernacle, an elaborate tent.

  24. And David said, "That's not right. All

  25. these other gods of these lands I've

  26. conquered, they've got buildings for

  27. their God. Our God should have a

  28. building." And so he tells the prophet

  29. Nathan, he's like, "That's what I'm

  30. going to do." Nathan's like, "Go for

  31. it." And then that night, God's like,

  32. "Nathan, go back to David." And this is

  33. what God says to him.

  34. He says, "David, I took you from the

  35. pasture from following sheep, that you

  36. should be prince over my people Israel,

  37. and I've been with you wherever you

  38. went, and have cut off all your enemies

  39. from before you. and I will make for you

  40. a great name like the name of the great

  41. ones of the earth. What's the reason why

  42. you know who David is? Who he was king

  43. 3,000 years ago of a tiny country. He's

  44. no Alexander the Great. How why do you

  45. know him? Well, because of what God said

  46. there. God said, "I'm going to give you

  47. a name."

  48. And then he goes on, God says, "And I

  49. will appoint a place for my people and

  50. will plant them so that they may dwell

  51. in their own place and be disturbed no

  52. more and violent men shall afflict them

  53. no more as formerly from the time that I

  54. appointed judges over my people Israel.

  55. And I will give you rest from all your

  56. enemies." And then he says this,

  57. "Moreover, the Lord declares to you,

  58. David, that the Lord will make you a

  59. house." And what God does is he he turns

  60. he he's playing with the words a little

  61. bit. It doesn't mean house building. He

  62. means house dynasty. He goes, "I'm going

  63. to build you a lineage."

  64. And then God says, "When your days are

  65. fulfilled and you lie down with your

  66. fathers, I will raise up your offspring

  67. after you shall come from your body and

  68. I will establish his kingdom. He shall

  69. build a house for my name." That's going

  70. to be Solomon. But then he's going to

  71. shift it again. And God's going to look

  72. forward. And he says, "I will establish

  73. the throne of his kingdom forever." And

  74. God closes with this verse 16, 2 Samuel

  75. 7. And your house, your lineage, and

  76. your kingdom shall be made sure forever

  77. before me, and your throne shall be

  78. established forever.

  79. And what does that have to do with

  80. Christmas? If you're a Jew in the first

  81. century, this is the promise you've been

  82. waiting for.

  83. And you've been waiting for 1,000

  84. years.

  85. And here was the challenge in the first

  86. century. Most of the Jews, they missed

  87. it.

  88. They missed the king. The king came and

  89. they didn't even notice. Why? They were

  90. looking for the wrong king.

  91. Why? Well, you're a Jew in the first

  92. century. You know what? You want your

  93. king to be? Giant slayer.

  94. Why? I'm tired of these Romans. I'm

  95. tired of Caesar ruling over us. I'm

  96. tired of paying taxes to him. I want to

  97. govern myself. Any American want to do

  98. that? I don't need a king. I can do it.

  99. So all the Jews in the first century, if

  100. you come to them and say, "What kind of

  101. king are you looking for?" One like

  102. David, just like uh 2 Samuel 7 says,

  103. that's gonna man wipe the Romans off the

  104. map. Let's get on with this thing.

  105. And isn't that what God said?

  106. Well, yes and no. For sure, the king

  107. that's going to come is going to set

  108. right everything that needs to get set

  109. right. And anyone who stands against him

  110. is going to get what's coming.

  111. And no,

  112. because what people missed is that the

  113. biggest giant they needed slayed was not

  114. outside of them. The Romans weren't

  115. actually their biggest problem.

  116. Which leaves us where? You know what

  117. happens in 2025?

  118. Most people miss this king, too.

  119. Why? Well, you've got stuff in your life

  120. you need fixing.

  121. You know what? We all We all want a

  122. giant slayer. We all want a king who's

  123. going to come and set right what needs

  124. to get set right. And all the people who

  125. need to get told what for get told what

  126. for.

  127. And everyone who's looking for that

  128. first

  129. is going to miss him.

  130. But not you.

  131. Not this year. Because we're going to

  132. look for this promised king in the way

  133. that he shows up in the story that

  134. likely you are very familiar with that I

  135. hope like if we if we took the diamond

  136. and and just turned it a little and you

  137. saw it in a different facet and you saw

  138. the light refracted a little differently

  139. that this story would become new because

  140. you know what? You need the promised

  141. king just as much. And guess what? He

  142. actually came. So, grab your vi uh

  143. Bibles. We're going to be in Luke

    Luke 1 chapter mention

  144. chapter 1 and we're going to look at who

  145. this promised king actually is, what

  146. he's come to do and how it matters for

  147. us. We're going to be in uh Luke

    Luke 1:26

  148. 1 verse 26

  149. and we're going to go through 38.

  150. But the first truth that Luke is going

  151. to help us unpack is that the promised

  152. king is gracious.

  153. This promised king

  154. is gracious.

  155. So again, Luke 1, starting in verse 26,

  156. God's word says that in the sixth month,

  157. the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a

  158. city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a

  159. virgin betrothed to a man whose name was

  160. Joseph of the house of David. And the

  161. virgin's name was Mary.

  162. Luke, the historian, physician, always

  163. puts in certain details. And he says,

  164. first, it's the sixth month. Um, Jewish

  165. calendars offset from ours a little bit.

  166. June is our sixth month. Here, think

  167. August, September. Their first month was

  168. later according to our calendar. And

  169. this angel is Gabriel. If you'd been

  170. reading your Old Testament, again,

  171. chronologically, you had about a th000

  172. BC. David comes to the throne. In 600

  173. BC, Gabriel is sent to a prophet named

  174. Daniel in order to deliver another

  175. message. And then Daniel shows up here

  176. with Mary and she lives in a little town

  177. called Nazareth. It's in the north of

  178. the country. It's where Galilee is, the

  179. Sea of Galilee, if you ever heard that

  180. term. And it's a backwater town. It's a

  181. one-stoplight town. One saloon. I don't

  182. know if they had a saloon.

  183. But it's also one of those towns where

  184. it's like you're trying to get out of

  185. there. If you're a high school student,

  186. you you want to you want to you're tired

  187. of small little Nazareth. And it's also

  188. one of those towns where like people in

  189. the big city would would thumb their

  190. nose at little Podunk Nazareth. It's

  191. important to know that. We'll come back

  192. to that.

  193. But notice this. It'll you'll start to

  194. hear the echoes of 2 Samuel 7

  195. because this virgin is betrod to a man

  196. whose name is Joseph of the house of

  197. David. He is in the line. He is a

  198. descendant, a blood descendant of David,

  199. which means that whatever son comes from

  200. this family is in that line that he

  201. needs to come. So verse 28, this is the

  202. message that Gabriel has. And he came to

  203. her and said, "Greetings,

  204. oh favored one." Underline that,

  205. highlight it. The Lord is with you. But

  206. she was greatly troubled at the saying

  207. and tried to discern what sort of

  208. greeting this might be. The angel said

  209. to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you

  210. have found second time favor with God.

  211. And behold, you will conceive in your

  212. womb and bear a son, and you shall call

  213. his name Jesus." In Hebrew, Yeshua

  214. basically means the Lord saves.

  215. So, you can imagine, put yourself in the

  216. story. You're Mary. You're a teenage

  217. girl. You're betrothed. You're looking

  218. forward to your wedding to Joseph. Could

  219. be the next 6 to 12 months. You don't

  220. know. You're so excited. You're

  221. scrolling Instagram for wedding dress

  222. ideas.

  223. You see your post from your brother.

  224. You're like, I don't know what 67 means.

  225. What is this?

  226. All right. Maybe a little imagination

  227. there. Probably didn't have Instagram

  228. then. Um, and this all of a sudden a

  229. warrior angel of light shows up in her

  230. living room, which makes sense why she's

  231. greatly disturbed trying to figure out

  232. what in the world is going on here. Why?

  233. Two reasons. It's the wrong setting and

  234. it's the wrong message.

  235. What do I mean? Um, you know what the

  236. right setting is for Gabriel to show up

  237. at? He should be in Rome.

  238. He should be showing up in the Senate

  239. with Caesar on the throne and all the

  240. Roman senators around in order to

  241. deliver this message. Your time has

  242. come.

  243. The king is coming. And if you don't

  244. bend your knee, he's going to bend your

  245. knee.

  246. Again, if you're a Jew in the first

  247. century, that's exactly the setting and

  248. the message you want.

  249. That's the Goliath slayer you're looking

  250. for.

  251. But where is he?

  252. He's in a backwater town.

  253. Teenage girl.

  254. Nobody knows her name.

  255. And this is where God sends his

  256. messenger. The same messenger he sent to

  257. Daniel.

  258. Why? Well, it's what he says.

  259. Because this king first comes with

  260. favor.

  261. He first comes the Greek word there uh

  262. translated favor is chorus. Um most

  263. times in the New Testament it's

  264. translated

  265. grace.

  266. Why do you know what you need and I need

  267. more than a giant slayer king?

  268. The king who comes first with grace.

  269. And there's Mary trying to parse in real

  270. time like this news. She got she got

  271. news that was like, "What is going on

  272. here?" But the message is one of grace.

  273. Um, have you ever been in a relationship

  274. and the person you're in the

  275. relationship says this to you? We need

  276. to talk. Have you ever been there?

  277. What's What's your first thought when

  278. you get the we need to talk message? Oh,

  279. it's probably good. Probably gonna give

  280. me an attab boy for something.

  281. Love the we need to talk message. Or or

  282. maybe this version. Uh you're at work,

  283. someone swings by your office and says,

  284. "Hey, boss needs to see you."

  285. What did I do? I didn't do it. I wasn't

  286. even there. I couldn't be like I all my

  287. stuff's in on time. Like what? Anybody

  288. else's blood pressure go up? Just me.

  289. Um, I'm sitting in the squadron spaces

  290. at my desk one day and the phone on my

  291. desk rings. Uh, sorry. Phones used to be

  292. these boxes with buttons that you pushed

  293. on them. The really old ones you did

  294. this number and then you picked up a

  295. thing and there was a cord and that's

  296. how you talk to people. And uh, it was

  297. Colonel Shahada and Colonel Shahada

  298. said, "Hey Creekmore, get down to my

  299. office." Roger that, sir. I hung up and

  300. then freaked out. That's what I did.

  301. That's what I did. Why? Bec. Let me tell

  302. you something you already know. All

  303. right. Uh, Marine Lieutenant Colonel

  304. Fighter Squadron commanding officers

  305. aren't like the Hey buddy, how are you

  306. doing? Like, it never happened to me one

  307. time ever. So, I'm walking down the

  308. hallway trying to do the mental

  309. gymnastics of what' I do? I didn't do

  310. it.

  311. I get to the office and it gets worse.

  312. Why? because he gave me this number.

  313. Close the door. Ah,

  314. now we're closing the door. Oh, this is

  315. no good.

  316. I sit down and he's got the flight

  317. schedule in front of him. And he says,

  318. "Uh, later today I fly with Lieutenant

  319. Smith. You flew with him yesterday. What

  320. does he need to work on?"

  321. Couldn't you have told me I wasn't in

  322. trouble when you said come down?

  323. I was like, "Yeah, Smith needs to work

  324. on this. This and he's a new guy, new

  325. pilot squadron.

  326. I got grace."

  327. He didn't catch me on the things I did

  328. mess up. Um,

  329. do you know what you need in your king?

  330. You need him to come with grace first.

  331. Why? Because the Romans aren't your

  332. biggest problem.

  333. That's what the Jews missed. The Jews

  334. thought, "You know what? Rome's our

  335. biggest problem." And God was like,

  336. "Rome's not your biggest problem."

  337. Who's your biggest problem? Don't answer

  338. that.

  339. I'll answer it. You know who my biggest

  340. problem in life is? Me.

  341. You know who the biggest problem in my

  342. marriage is? Me. You know who my biggest

  343. problem is in my parenting?

  344. me. Like, if I could just get me to do

  345. what I'm supposed to do, my life would

  346. go a lot easier, would it not?

  347. What's the problem you have? You think

  348. something else is the problem?

  349. If he came as a giant slayer, you know

  350. what we would all do? Run.

  351. But that's not how he comes.

  352. That's not how he comes.

  353. How does he come to you?

  354. Grace.

  355. Grace. Why do we know this conversation

  356. between Mary and Gabriel that there were

  357. no other witnesses to?

  358. Because God thought that you needed to

  359. hear it.

  360. So, this is my favorite part in this

  361. message right now.

  362. because I'm going to get to do it.

  363. Greetings, O favored one. The Lord is

  364. with you.

  365. You have found favor with God.

  366. Greetings, O favored one. The Lord is

  367. with you.

  368. Greetings, oh faithful Lord. You have

  369. found favor with God.

  370. It's the most important thing you're

  371. ever going to hear in your life.

  372. And notice that's where he starts.

  373. He's going to get to all the giants.

  374. They're going to get what's coming. I

  375. promise you.

  376. It's just not where he's going to start.

  377. Why?

  378. Because that's what you need.

  379. That's what I need.

  380. Who does God need to work on more than

  381. anybody else in your life?

  382. How does he work on you?

  383. Like a giant slayer.

  384. Better get your act together.

  385. No

  386. favored one.

  387. Grace recipient.

  388. Now the question that should be coming

  389. up in your head and heart is what kind

  390. of response should you and I have if

  391. that's how our king comes.

  392. Hold that thought. That's point three.

  393. Because point two is the promised king

  394. is God himself. Look at verse 32.

  395. Gabriel goes on. He says of this king,

  396. he will be great and will be called son

  397. of the most high and the Lord God. And

  398. now you're going to start to hear the

  399. echoes even more clearly of second se uh

  400. 2 Samuel 7. And the Lord God will give

  401. to him the throne of his father David.

  402. Check. That's number one. We need the

  403. king to do that. Then verse 33. And he

  404. will reign over the house of Jacob,

  405. which is shorthand for Israel or God's

  406. people. You and I can include ourselves

  407. there. And he will reign over the house

  408. of Jacob. How long? Forever.

  409. Check. Number three. And of his kingdom

  410. there will be no end. Yes, that's what

  411. I'm talking about. That's what we need.

  412. That's exactly what God said to David.

  413. But there was a piece in here that

  414. Gabriel added that wasn't in 2 Samuel 7.

  415. Did you catch it?

  416. How does he start? He will be great and

  417. would be called what? The son of the

  418. most high. This this king, he's not just

  419. going to be a son of David. Who's he

  420. going to be a son of? God.

  421. Um,

  422. since you and I have the challenge

  423. likely of of being too familiar with the

  424. Christmas story, that doesn't shock you

  425. the way it should shock you.

  426. Hold on. You mean to tell me God's

  427. coming? Like, that was good when it was

  428. like like another Solomon in David's

  429. lineage, but God's going to show up. You

  430. realize this is the only place in the

  431. world

  432. in history where this happens. Here's

  433. what I mean. If you are a founder of a

  434. religion, do you know what you have

  435. always said? I am here from God and I'm

  436. here to give you God's instructions of

  437. how you get right with him and get to

  438. him. That's what every other

  439. religion founder, belief system founder

  440. has said. So what did Muhammad do that

  441. founded Islam? He came. He said, 'I

  442. talked to an angel. Angel gave me the

  443. instructions and I'm here to tell you

  444. how you get right with Allah so Allah

  445. will accept you. Joseph Smith, who was

  446. the founder of Mormonism,

  447. not a Christian religion.

  448. I'll unpack that in a future sermon.

  449. Very interesting. Guess what Joseph

  450. Smith did? He ran into an angel in

  451. upstate New York. I kid you not. And

  452. what did he say? This is the

  453. instructions for how you become godlike

  454. like Jesus. That's what he said today.

  455. The the spirit of the age that you and I

  456. live in is what I call secular humanism.

  457. This is the you bump into it all the

  458. time. You do you, right? Search your

  459. heart. Pull out your your greatest

  460. passion and desires and live your best

  461. life. Right? Notice it's all the same

  462. play. Satan only has a few cards and he

  463. plays them on repeat. Why? Because all

  464. the gurus of today tell you is what?

  465. Here are your instructions in order to

  466. work your way in order to have a great

  467. life. Do you see the thread

  468. versus

  469. this is the only story where God says

  470. I'm coming.

  471. Which means what?

  472. It's actually not about the rules.

  473. What does he want?

  474. Relationship.

  475. Every other guru, everyone else, it's

  476. about the rules. How do you work your

  477. way? Work your way. Earn your way. Do

  478. right.

  479. Only this king, he says, I'm coming

  480. myself because I want to come for you.

  481. The rules will come. But it starts with

  482. relationship. We looked at this verse

  483. last week, John 17. And this is eternal

  484. life. Or another way of saying, what

  485. makes for salvation? How do I get saved

  486. that they know you? Notice it doesn't

  487. say this is eternal life that they kept

  488. the rules. This is eternal life that

  489. they climbed the mountain. This is

  490. eternal life that they worked really

  491. hard. No, this is eternal life that they

  492. know you.

  493. The only true God. How do I know the

  494. true God? Well, it's through Jesus

  495. Christ whom you have sent.

  496. Why?

  497. The giant slayer doesn't come to be your

  498. buddy,

  499. but your king does.

  500. Do um do you remember co

  501. remember this?

  502. Um that was fun, wasn't it? Oh my gosh.

  503. Some I don't know about you, but

  504. sometimes like I like I'll have like a

  505. COVID flashback and I'll be like, did

  506. that really happen? Like was that a bad

  507. dream? I think it was a bad

  508. Um, do you remember fighting over masks?

  509. That was fun, wasn't it? That was a good

  510. time. Or, um, social distancing. Do you

  511. remember this? Couldn't be within six

  512. feet of someone else. That was a good

  513. time. Um,

  514. I I do as I as I thought about it, there

  515. was at least the beginning some good

  516. things maybe. Uh, do you remember not

  517. having to sit in traffic for a couple

  518. months?

  519. I was a fan of that. Um, remember how

  520. you could just like roll out of bed, put

  521. on basically a shirt,

  522. hopefully it was ironed, and just open

  523. your laptop and you're at work. Remember

  524. that after you learned how to use Zoom?

  525. That was that was okay, right? I

  526. basically shaved less. I was like, "Oh,

  527. this is there's all the introverts, they

  528. didn't tell you because they're

  529. introverted, but then they're like, let

  530. me get this straight. We're all just

  531. going to stay home.

  532. So good. So good. Um,

  533. but then what happened? I don't know.

  534. Like some of you, you've been working

  535. remote for years and you're like,

  536. "That's my happy place. I love it." Um,

  537. you know what? I got to the point like I

  538. hate Zoom. Like if I get on a Zoom call

  539. now, like,

  540. and then I'm really thankful that it's

  541. not Zoom call after Zoom call after Zoom

  542. call for eight hours. I'm really I'm

  543. sorry if you like that. I pray for you.

  544. Um I don't know how you do it. I don't

  545. know. But here's what's interesting. And

  546. even more recently, companies started um

  547. going this route. What do they What do

  548. you Can you stay home anymore? No.

  549. Making you come in, right? Why?

  550. It's actually better to be together.

  551. is the same thing God thought.

  552. It's actually better to be together.

  553. Again, our familiarity with the story,

  554. you know, Jesus is God's son.

  555. You also know that he came.

  556. There's no other story like this.

  557. There's no other story like this

  558. that he saw. Like, if you were the only

  559. person that was going to believe, he

  560. still would have come.

  561. like you were that important to him that

  562. he left heaven to come for you.

  563. Just one brief application. If you ever

  564. struggle with um being rejected,

  565. being dismissed,

  566. friends don't get you, family doesn't

  567. get you, um overlooked,

  568. passed over.

  569. I think for all of us, we'll find

  570. relationships and seasons where that's

  571. us.

  572. Just look back to Christmas

  573. and the God who came for you

  574. that he thought it was important enough

  575. for him. He's like, I'm coming. Why?

  576. Because it's not about you keeping the

  577. rules.

  578. He loves you without the rules. And then

  579. an amazing thing that only the gospel,

  580. only God could have figured out. You

  581. mean to tell me that like after I'm in

  582. relationship with you, then I'm going to

  583. want to do right? Yes.

  584. Yes.

  585. So, this promised king is gracious. This

  586. promised king is God himself. And this

  587. promised king, what should we respond

  588. with? Humility. We should respond with

  589. humility. Look at verse 34.

  590. And Mary said to the angel, "How will

  591. this be since I'm a virgin?" Great

  592. question.

  593. Verse 35, the angel answered her, "The

  594. Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the

  595. power of the most high will overshadow

  596. you. Therefore, the child to be born

  597. will be called holy, the son of God."

  598. Again, don't ask me how that works or

  599. how that happened. God knew. God figured

  600. it out.

  601. But in just a again tremendous grace to

  602. Mary, look at what verse 36 says. And

  603. behold, your relative Elizabeth,

  604. probably an aunt, maybe a cousin, in her

  605. old age, has conceived a son, and this

  606. is the sixth month with her who was

  607. called barren. So Elizabeth can't have

  608. kids and now is miraculously going to

  609. have a kid. Who's her son? John the

  610. Baptist. Right? So in in Luke's gospel

  611. in the first several chapters, there's

  612. these parallel birth narratives. The

  613. birth narrative of Jesus and the birth

  614. narrative of John the Baptist. And the

  615. grace to these two women that they would

  616. be in the same family line or however

  617. they were related that they like who

  618. else is going to get you ladies? How'd

  619. you get pregnant?

  620. They have each other.

  621. Look what God did with you. Look what

  622. God did with me,

  623. man.

  624. Look, he he gets all the details.

  625. And then verse 37, if you don't have

  626. this highlighted already or underlined,

  627. how can this be? Well, for nothing will

  628. be impossible with God.

  629. And then verse 38, and Mary said,

  630. "Behold,"

  631. here's here's probably the most humble

  632. statement in the Bible.

  633. And Mary said, "Behold,

  634. I'm the servant of the Lord. Let it be

  635. to me according to your word."

  636. We um we've said in our new church that

  637. our mission is help people make the

  638. trade. If you haven't heard that it

  639. we're helping people, hey, trade a life

  640. apart from Jesus for a life with him.

  641. What does Mary say? I've made the trade.

  642. Why? Because most people, like I've been

  643. doing this for a number of years. You

  644. know where most people get stuck? They

  645. want to stay the king.

  646. What happens for most people and where

  647. they don't make the trade is they come

  648. to passages of scripture and they stay

  649. like this. They're like, "Oh, that's

  650. interesting. Oh, you know what? I'll

  651. consider it. You know, is this something

  652. I want to do? Is this going to mess up

  653. my life too much? Can I fit it in?"

  654. And again, the people who miss it, the

  655. people who miss the king want to stay

  656. the king. That's the problem.

  657. And Mary says, "Behold,

  658. I'm a servant of the Lord. Let it be to

  659. me according to your word."

  660. My uh my wife, she uh she writes books

  661. and through her writing, uh she's had

  662. ladies over the years reach out to her

  663. because of what she talks about in her

  664. books. They're like, "I struggle with

  665. that. Can you help me?" And so what

  666. started as just trying to tell her story

  667. like has led to a lot of coaching. And

  668. so ladies will reach out to work with my

  669. wife. And uh it's been interesting over

  670. the years to see how um my wife comes

  671. out of her office after one of her

  672. initial coaching calls which are on

  673. Zoom. So I guess it is helpful. Um

  674. because she either comes out of the

  675. office like

  676. right or

  677. like that. And here's what I've learned.

  678. Right. There's basically two groups of

  679. people and two groups of clients that

  680. she works with. Group one we'll call

  681. basically put together.

  682. I got my stuff handled. I could use a

  683. little help in this area, a little help

  684. in this area. Let me see if this lady

  685. here can help me. Right?

  686. Group two are people who on that first

  687. Zoom call usually say something like,

  688. "I've been battling this for years and I

  689. can't fix it and can you help me

  690. please?"

  691. Now,

  692. I put it to your reasonable people.

  693. Which group do you think sees more

  694. change?

  695. Do you need to pray about it?

  696. No. No.

  697. Why? It's always the humble people.

  698. It's always the people who like Mary can

  699. say, "It's not about me.

  700. Lord, whatever you want to do, I'm in

  701. for that."

  702. Imagine this.

  703. Lord,

  704. in my marriage,

  705. I'm just a servant.

  706. Let my marriage be according to your

  707. word.

  708. Lord, I'm a mom. I'm a dad.

  709. I'm just a servant.

  710. Let my parenting be according to your

  711. word.

  712. God, I have this job. I have this

  713. career, but I'm just a servant.

  714. Let me do my career according to your

  715. word.

  716. Lord, I'm in my retirement years,

  717. but I'm your servant.

  718. Let these years be according to your

  719. word.

  720. Lord, I have these gifts, these

  721. abilities,

  722. but I'm just a servant.

  723. Let me use them according to your word.

  724. I'm a student. I'm in high school. I'm

  725. in college. Lord,

  726. I'm your servant.

  727. Let me use these years according to your

  728. word.

  729. Let me tell you something you already

  730. know.

  731. The life that you and I want to live is

  732. on the other side of Mary's statement.

  733. the more there's only room, you know

  734. this, there's only room on the throne

  735. for how many kings,

  736. which means you and I need to get off.

  737. If you were a Jew in the first century,

  738. like us today,

  739. you were hoping for a Goliath slayer.

  740. Guess what? You got something better.

  741. and you still got a Goliath slayer.

  742. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for

  743. this morning. We thank you for your

  744. word. We thank you for your goodness and

  745. kindness to us. We thank you that you

  746. are doing far more than we can ask or

  747. imagine. I pray for my own heart. But I

  748. pray for my brothers and sisters that

  749. you would continue little by little,

  750. grace by grace to take the truth of who

  751. Jesus is as king

  752. and may it change us.

  753. And may we be a people who little by

  754. little and grace by grace look more like

  755. him this Christmas season. And we give

  756. you all the praise. And everyone said,

  757. "Amen.
