Well, good morning, Faith Alive Church. Be loving Jesus more today than we ever have before. All right, we're gonna get you there. We're excited about today. And ⁓ it's a very special Sunday here today. ⁓ but before we jump into it, I just want to ⁓ recognize a very special people group in the house here today. I need all the moms to stand in the house. Come on, show them your love, show them your appreciation. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Come on, show them your love. Yeah, yeah. Remain standing, remain standing. I want to honor you in the best way that I can. And ⁓ I think we just need to take a moment and realize all the amazing things that you do. And I just want to tell you that it does not go unnoticed. Man, it's not an exaggeration to say that mothers, whether you're a stepmom, whether you're a a mom that won that. A mom that wants to be a mom, a longing mom, longing to have children, ⁓ stepmom, a mother figure, whatever it is. Your hard work, your sacrifice does not go unnoticed. And ⁓ I know that today can be a celebration for many, but there may be some conflicted feelings on some of the moms in the place. Maybe it's a mom that has lost someone very close to them. Maybe it's a A mom that has lost a mom, like my my my wife is dealing with today, who lost her mom just a year ago. Maybe it's ⁓ somebody that is longing to be a mom. We wanted to let you know that we see you, we hear you, and ⁓ we love you, and we are thanking God for you. You are amazing, and ⁓ it's not an exaggeration to tell you that we would not be here without you in many different ways. ⁓ Amen. No matter where you find yourself today, like I said, a stepmom, ⁓ longing to be a mom, a grieving mom, a mother figure, whatever it is, ⁓ no matter where you find yourself, we thank you for who you are. And Proverbs chapter 31 says, Her children rise up and call her blessed. And we just want to extend the same blessing that you give us each and every day. We want to call blessing from the Lord upon you here in. Today, moms, you carry something very special, something very powerful. And ⁓ you have, whether you realize it or not, you have the ability to create an atmosphere of peace. You have the ability to create an atmosphere of encouragement, you have the ability to create an atmosphere of strength. So I don't know about you, and I think I could speak for many of the husbands of the sons ⁓ in this place. That ⁓ my goodness, we lean on our moms for literally everything we do. I remember when I was ⁓ just a young, a young ⁓ young boy, I I remember calling upon my mom for so many different things. Lo, you know, I I I need I need help in this area. I need help ⁓ in this area. ⁓ mom, could you give me some advice? Could you give me some of that strength? Could you maybe Make some peace out of this chaos and of this hectic time in my life. And I think it's so important that we remember that you do that. You, Mom, do that. And we are so thankful for you. So if you hear it from no one else today, which I hope it's not just me, but I want you to hear it from me. Happy, happy Mother's Day. We love you so much. You guys can have a seat. I want to do something very ⁓ exciting at the end of the service for you all as well. ⁓ but man, we are excited that you are here, that you have joined us at Faith Alive Church, and we wanted to make sure that we honor the moms in the best way possible. For those of you that have been with us the last couple of weeks, you know that we started a brand new sermon series on Acts. You will receive power. And it's all about the Holy Spirit descending. Upon his church and empowering the church to move forward in the way that God had intended. So we remember last week Jesus tells his followers to stop and wait for the promised power. He says, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. See, in Acts chapter 1, we see the promise. But in Acts chapter 2, we see the experience. Somebody say amen. So I'm excited about today. Open with me in scripture to Acts chapter 2 and verse 1. If you don't have your Bible with you, you can view it on the screen. Acts chapter 2 and verse 1. It says this: when the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. You have to realize that Pentecost was a Jewish festival. ⁓ That came just 10 days after the ascension of Christ. So we know that Jesus was killed on Passover, and that he came back under the power of the Holy Spirit, was resurrected, and spent how many days with his followers? Forty. Just 10 days after his ascension, the day of Pentecost came. Verse number two says, Suddenly a sound, like the blowing of a violent wind, came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them, somebody say all of them, all of them, that was about a hundred and twenty in the upper room there, were filled with the Holy Spirit. And began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. I want you all to hear this from me. When the Holy Spirit of God falls, things change. When the Holy Spirit of God falls, lives are transformed in a way that is that we can't even comprehend. When the Spirit of God falls, there is power, there is authority. There is amazement, there is wonder, there is miracles. I want you to know that when the Holy Spirit falls, it is a supernatural event that cannot be recreated by anything that we see in this world. When the Holy Spirit falls. Before we jump in, can you pray with me? Father, we thank you again for this wonderful, amazing Mother's Day. We pray right now, God. That you would send your Holy Spirit again. That we would feel the encouragement and the boldness. Lord Jesus, you are worthy to be praised. And we are thanking you for today. It's in the precious, in the matchless, in the amazing name of Jesus Christ. I pray these things. Amen. Amen. Acts chapter 2, verses 1 and 2, it says again, suddenly a sound like the blowing of a Violent wind came from heaven. Someone say suddenly, and someone say violent. I love that. I love that. See, this wasn't a gentle puff of air. This was a freight train of a sound that came rushing through the upper room. This was loud, this was verbose, this was amazing. See, in first Kings. Can ⁓ God came in a gentle whisper. Do you remember the story? Elijah cries out, Where is the Lord? He wasn't in the shout, he wasn't in the cloud, he was in a gentle whisper. But can I tell you that in Acts chapter 2, he came with a roar? He came with a roar. See this outpouring that came suddenly. It came, but the church was waiting. The church Was praying and they were expecting God to move. Can I speak to that for a moment? If we are waiting for the Holy Spirit of God to work and operate in our lives, my question to you is: are you prepping? Are you ready? And are you expecting God to move? See, the church in this time was praying. They were expecting. They finally understood that the promised power was coming from heaven and they were about to receive. So they were trying to get themselves ready to receive it. I am convinced that a lot of times we miss a move of the Holy Spirit because we are not ready. We are not expecting. So can I encourage you today to pray, to cry out, to shout. Unto the Lord. You guys hear me get passionate quite a bit up here. It's because I want to be ready and I want to be passionate about my Jesus. I want to be encouraged by the Lord because this is just too good. It's just too good. So the outpouring came suddenly. See, some of us feel when we're praying that the Lord has just completely skipped over our petition. He's completely stepped over our asking. But I want to encourage you today to persist. Keep praying. Keep expecting because God moves rapidly, but only after your season of preparation. It could be possible, Faith Alive Church, that you might not be ready to receive what God wants to give you. So prepare and expect God to move because God's will. For your life is for him to be known. And God's will for your life is to be moved into the place that he wants you to go. Be ready to receive him. You know what I love about the Holy Spirit? I want you to say these two words with me untamed and unscheduled. The Holy Spirit of God is untamed. ⁓ that, ⁓ He is untamed and he is unscheduled. See, we a lot of times think we know best on when a miracle, when a favor, when a blessing should happen in our lives. But who in this place knows that God's timing is so much greater? His thoughts are above our thoughts. His ways are above our ways. The Spirit of God is untamed. He's unscheduled but everyone say but very good. Just one T. Say it again, but he does respond to hunger, passion, and fervor. See, I believe that when we cry out, when we rely, when we submit, when we sacrifice, when we kneel down, when we lay on our faces before the throne of God, I do believe that God responds to that. I think he smiles down on his people and he says, Thank you for submitting. I want to move in your life. He responds to hunger, to passion, to fervor. I don't want to be found lacking in those areas. I don't know about you. But I want to be found passionate, hungry for God. See, I think that the 120 were hungry for the promise. They were hungry for a move. They were hungry to see Christ known. So my question for you all today is: are you hungry? Not physically, I know it's the third service, you might be hungry. I'm talking about spiritually. Are you hungry enough to see Christ Jesus known in this community, in this nation, and around the world? This is what God has called us to do, and under the power and authority of the Holy Spirit, we can do that. That's the power, that's the authority that He gives us. Are you hungry enough to hear from God so that He can use you as a vessel for His glory? Lord make me a vessel for your glory, not by my own strength, but by yours. That's my prayer today. Acts chapter 2, verses 3 and 4. It says they saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled. All of them were filled. Fire represents God's presence. I want you to think all the way back to Exodus chapter 3. Moses is on Mount Horeb, and he encounters a bush. That is on fire. Do you remember the story? And it just would not burn up. The Lord speaks through the bush. He says, Moses, take off your sandals because where you are standing is what? Holy ground. ⁓ There's about 18 different sermons that I could write on just these first couple of word verses that we've read. Exodus 3. Fire represents God's presence. So when we read this portion of scripture that says that they seem to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them, that means that the Spirit of God, God's very presence, rested on each and every one of the 120 in the upper room. Praise God. I want you to notice that it says all of them were filled. All were filled. Not just the leaders, not just the apostles. All of them were filled. The Holy Spirit is not reserved for a few. It's not reserved for a select people group. It's available to all believers. For those that say yes to Jesus, I want you to know that the moment that you say yes to Jesus, you are immediately filled with the Holy Spirit of God. Isn't that amazing? Isn't that amazing? When we say yes to Jesus, we immediately have access to the power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Don't ever take that for granted. There might be a moment in your life where you are. Going after somebody that you are praying for, that you are crying out for, and you just don't feel that you have the words, don't speak. Let the Holy Spirit of God speak through you. You don't have the words. Let me let me let me encourage you, you don't have the words. And that is an encouragement, because the Holy Spirit can say it a lot better than you can, sorry. The spirit that filled them is the same spirit that fills us today. Somebody say, same spirit. Say it again. Same spirit. Not a different spirit, not a lesser spirit. The same spirit is moving and operating in your life. Access it. Let him speak through you. Acts chapter 2, verses 4 through 8. It says, All were filled and began to speak in another as the Spirit enabled them. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, the Bible says, they asked, Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans, then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Can I tell you today that when the Spirit of God begins to operate in the church, it causes It causes a interest from the people around you. It causes a a ⁓ wondering, a a what is this type of thing? A crowd came together, it says, in bewilderment, because they were all, they all heard their own language being spoken. See, people from different nations began hearing the wonders of God in their own language. See, the in the the Spirit of God comes upon you to communicate the gospel message in a way that is clear and concise. Again, you might not have the words to get that across, but the Holy Spirit of God does. So let him operate through you in that. This is not about confusion, this is about clarity. If you look back at Genesis chapter 11, they are building the Tower of Babel. You guys know the story? They are so fixated on building this tower to where? The heavens. That they stopped listening to the Lord and they said, We can do this. And what did the Lord do? He sent a spirit of confusion to spread and mix up their languages. A lot of theologians feel that that's how we got. The many languages that we speak here today in the world. But in Acts chapter 2, but in Acts chapter 2, that same spirit came down. And it was a spirit that didn't confuse, but it's a spirit that united. It's a language that came together. See, God uses the power of the tongue to unite, to empower, to edify. I want you to hear me in this house here today. Mind your mouth. What you say is what comes out of your heart. For out of the heart the mouth speaks, the Bible says. So mind what you say. The power of life and death is in the tongue. Proverbs chapter 18. See, we believe that this heavenly language. That the 120 experience is the initial physical evidence of the Holy Spirit working in and through your life. Listen to me. This spirit, this speaking, these these tongues is not strange, it's not weird, it is necessary. It's necessary. The gift of tongues is something to be sought after, it is something to experience. Let me tell you, this is a gift from God. This is something that we need to operate in. See, and many feel that this outward expression, these tongues, these tongues of fire that rested on each and every one in the upper room, they feel that it was for the birth or the establishment of the church alone and not for today. But can I confront that? Can I, can I let me confront that here? Acts chapter 10 and verse 44. After the Holy Spirit had come, it says Peter was at Cornelius' home. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all that heard the message. The circumcised believers, meaning those that had covenant with God, who had come with Peter, were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in what? Tongues and praising God. If that verse ain't enough, how about Acts chapter 19 again after the Holy Spirit had been established and moved and the birth of the church had been realized? Acts chapter 19 and verse 6. While Paul was in Ephesus, it says he placed his hands on them. The Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. See, they were filled again. I said they were filled again. They were filled again. So my question for you is are you ready to be filled again? Holy Spirit of God, would you fill us again? We need you now. We need you now. Can I tell you today that culture pressure is not getting easier? Culture's pressure that's coming up against the church and against Christians. My goodness, do you see what's happening in what is it, Nigeria? My goodness, persecution of Christians. Persecution of Christians. We cannot do this on our own. We need to be filled again. The Holy Spirit was not just for the establishment of the church, it was for today, and it's for you. It is for you. It's for you. The gift of tongues is for the edification of the church. This is what I love. There's so many different ways that the Holy Spirit speaks, and it speaks to edify the church. With the interpretation of that tongue so that the body can understand, but it's also for the edification of the believer. The Holy Spirit is moving in and through it. So let him work through you and to you and in us and through us. Let him do that. Acts chapter 2, verses 7 through 13, the crowd responds to the descending Holy Spirit, utterly amazed. I'll read it again. They asked, Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of them hears them in our native language? Then verse 13, it says, Some, however, made fun of them and said, They have had too much wine. Listen, when the Holy Spirit of God moves, it will create wonder. It will create amazement, it will create curiosity, but it will also create skepticism. There will be people outside of this church that may look at something like that and say, that's interesting, that's goofy, I don't like that, but can I tell you if it's in the good book? Some will lean in, some will question, some will mock. Some will mock. But hear me today. Do not let the fear of someone's reaction stop you from seeking the Holy Spirit of God. Don't let outside pressure curve you to the place that you shouldn't go. Be rooted in Scripture and what it says. Be rooted in the Holy Spirit and be open to To his leading because we need it now. Boldness in Christ. I want you to write this down. Boldness in Christ is not the absence of opposition, it is the faithfulness in it. Boldness in Christ is not the absence of opposition. There may be people that come up against you and your walk. And can I tell you that this church, Faith Alive Church, God is taking this place and He is moving us into a new I believe that. And with that, there will come opposition. There will come skepticism. But can I tell you to stay rooted in Christ Jesus? Boldness in Christ is not the absence of opposition, it is the faithfulness in it. Be faithful unto the Lord. Walk with the Spirit, talk with the Spirit, operate in the Spirit. So, what did we learn here today? The Spirit comes suddenly. It is untamed and unscheduled. He fills us completely, he speaks to us powerfully, and he moves us missionally. See, when we are under the inspiration and the move of the Holy Spirit, watch out, world. Because we got something to say. We got something to say. See, Acts chapter 2 was not just for that, it's for Today. So can I say this? God fill us again. God fill us again. God fill us again. Would you stand with me on your feet here today? Lord, we are thankful for who you are. We're thankful for the gift that you promised. We ask right now, Father, that you would. Do it again. Holy Spirit, fill us again. We need you now. Empower us. Embolden us to share the message of Christ. We need you. We need you. I want to ask this simple question, every head bowed, every eye closed in this place. If you have not made Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, I want to give you an opportunity to do that. Because the Holy Spirit of God is for all who believe. So if you're in this house here today, I'm not going to belabor the point, but if you want to know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, lift up your hand. Nobody's looking around. Yes. Yes. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, God. Thank you, God. Thank you, God. I want each and every person to pray this prayer after me. Say, dear Jesus, I love you. I love you, I ask. That you would forgive me of my sin. Wash me clean. I believe that you came to this earth and you died for me. And I believe that you rose again on the third day and you are here with me today. I ask that you would be the Lord of my life from today until the end of my days. It's in the amazing name of Jesus I pray. Amen. Can we celebrate those that said yes to Jesus? Amazing. So thankful for those that said yes to Jesus. Many of you have heard this before, but we have what's called the what's next process. Make sure you scan that QR code. It'll take you to a five-step process of what we believe at this church and how most importantly to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ. So crucial. So crucial. Make sure that you scan that. Now I want to do something very special in the place here today. Could I have all the moms? Come down to this altar. All the moms in the place, don't be shy. All the moms in the place come down to the altar. All the moms in the place. Man, there is power at this altar. Amen. Amen. There is nothing like a woman's prayer, a mother's prayer. My goodness. I want to tell you a quick story. When I was in high school and in my early twenties, I struggled severely with obsessive compulsive disorder. Things like I couldn't set down certain things unless I turned them a certain way. I had to wash my hands a certain way. I had to turn the faucet on a certain way. It was debilitating. In fact, so much so that I couldn't wait to go back to sleep at the end of the night just so I didn't have to think about it. It was a tough moment. It was a tough season for me. It was years and years and years. And I remember. My mom. Came to me. And she saw that I was struggling and she looked at me and she laid hands on me and she said, This is not God's will for you. And I remember from that moment, from that moment, I felt God move in my life. And I'm standing here today free from OCD, from obsessive compulsive disorder. I got other issues that she's still praying for, but that one was healed in the mighty name of Jesus through my mom. There's power in a mother's prayer. You give so much to your families, to the people around you, and I want you to hear my heart in this. We love you. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for the sacrifice you make. I mean all the things that are seen, but all the things that are unseen. We don't even know what you guys do. There's so much Right? When I don't know where like my toothbrush is, I ask my wife, Where's my toothbrush? She's like, It's in the corner behind the so on so on so on. We love you. And you give and you give and you give and you sacrifice and you sacrifice and you sacrifice. So and you pray and you pray and you pray, don't you? So, I thought it'd be appropriate if you turn and face the congregation because we're gonna pray for you for a change. Can we do that? So, congregation, stretch your hands towards these amazing moms. And we're gonna ask for the Holy Spirit of God to fill them again for the empowerment of their ministry, which is motherhood. So, Father, we come before you and we thank you for each and every mom. Come on, church, can we pray for them? Lord, bless them in this time, guide them in this time, establish a new thing in their life in this moment. Open their hearts to all that you have in store. Father, we know all the amazing things that they do. Lord Jesus, can you bless them today? Grant them favor today. That they would feel your very presence today. Lord God, we are thanking you that you gave them to us. Because my goodness, how could we move on without them? So give them authority and boldness in you as they go about their day. I pray that each and every person that's praying for them would spoil them immensely. Lord God, you are worthy to be praised, and we are thankful for you.
