Day 10

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Point Church Podcast. I'm here with Pastor Sam as we're working through the Gospel of Matthew. For our forty days, forty podcasts through Lent. today we're in day ten and we're in chapter four, starting in verse twenty three. It reads Now Jesus began to go all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, inhaling every disease and sickness among the people. Yeah. So Jesus has in the passage we just read the day before. ⁓ called the first disciples. They're following him, and now he's going out to do kind of the work that we imagine when we think about Jesus' ministry. Now he's really doing it in earnest. ⁓ teaching in the synagogues. So think of it as like local churches. You have the temple, which is in Israel, and that's where the Holy of Holies is, that's where annual sacrifices were made. But synagogues are your local church that you go to for Sabbath for every week. So he's going to these different towns in the Galilee region. Yeah. So around ⁓ the Sea of Galilee, around ⁓ where he lives, but he's still walking. Like he he's just staying in this small area for the most part. But people are like hearing the news, the youangalion in the Greek, the good news. and they're like, Not only is this man an amazing teacher, but he can work miracles. Yes. And so they're like, Could you Do this. ⁓ and you can do this. And we see it quickly snowball that like his reputation grows like immediately. Yeah. Because in verse forty four it shows that it reads, Then the news about him spread throughout Syria. So they brought to him all those who were afflicted, those suffering from various diseases and intense pain, the demon possessed, the epileptics, the per and the paralytics. Yeah. So Syria was really the larger area. It's a Providence of the Roman Empire. So the Romans, you know, occupied and ran basically every area around the Mediterranean Sea. So Syria is like a providence, and it does include Israel, but it includes nations outside of Israel. Yeah. It goes further north almost to like ⁓ Turkey, Yemen, I think modern day Yemen, you know, kind like that area. So the People from all over, the word is spreading that fast that they're like, You gotta go to Israel and you gotta go to Galilee and you gotta find this guy, and he can do anything. And what he's showing is that he has power over ⁓ those suffering of various diseases, intense pains. Then it just simply kind of throws in like, ⁓ and the demon possessed, by the way. Yeah. So he has these spiritual authorities as well. Yeah. And then you have the epileptics and the paralytics, which we're seeing as like You know, you could easily think that is demon possession, but we know there is a difference. You know, demon possession can show those symptoms, but there's also people who are just simply paralyzed. And ⁓ Jesus is like healing and showing that the kingdom of God looks like healing on the outside, but even more so healing on the inside of your soul. So he's using this to again allow people to hear the message and hear that the kingdom is here. Yeah, because ⁓ finishing that verse and then continuing on it said, and he healed them. Large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan. Yes. So Galilee is a region that he basically think of it like his neighborhood. Yeah. That's his region. The Decapolis is on the other side of the Sea of Galilee. The Decapolis is a very difficult area to describe. It's Decapolis, Decca, 10, and then like metropolis city. So it's the ten towns, is what it's called. So this is the area of the ten towns, and this is a hodgepodge of you have some people who are Jewish living there, you have ⁓ you have Romans, you have Greeks, you have outsiders. It's just this hodgepodge. Melting pot. Yes, perfect melting pot. And Jesus is even going there and ministering to those people and Then he goes to Jerusalem, the seat of power, the heart of the religious elite are in Jerusalem, goes to Judea and beyond the Jordan, which means outside of the boundary of Israel. So Jesus is not staying put. Now he's walking everywhere, but he's walking throughout Israel, but he's going everywhere. Like he is starting to show that the kingdom of God, yes, starts in Israel, but it's gonna spread for all people to come be a part of it. Yeah. Amen.
