  1. God is about to do a miracle through something that

  2. you don't even think is worth mentioning, something so small

  3. and insignificant in your sight that your.

  4. First instinct is to not even mention it.

  5. But the enemy wants you to despise your oil because

  6. he can't steal your oil. Oil in the Bible is

  7. symbolic of the Holy Spirit. When they would anoint a

  8. king in the Bible, they would anoint the king with oil.

  9. It represented God's empowerment. It represents joy and gladness. It's

  10. symbolic of the Holy Spirit that came on the day

  11. of Pentecost.

  12. To live inside of us.

  13. And so when I preach about oil, I'm not talking

  14. about something that.

  15. You keep in your pantry.

  16. I'm talking about something that you have in.

  17. Your heart, the gift God gave you, the people God

  18. put in your life.

  19. The idea God.

  20. Gave you, the time He gave.

  21. You, the ceason you're in.

  22. If I were your enemy and I knew I couldn't

  23. take your oil, what I would do instead is to

  24. get you to think that your oil was so little

  25. that it wasn't even worth using.

  26. And that's why some people sit in.

  27. Church week after week after week after month after month

  28. after month after year after year, and stay in their

  29. deficiency and never realize that what you've got is something.

  30. Somebody's shout is not nothing. It's not nothing. Feeling in

  31. my spirit today, it's not nothing. Somebody shout, my gift

  32. is something, my life is something, My praise is something.

  33. Not high five.

  34. Somebody say, I got something? How about you? For I've

  35. been comparing my oil with yours.

  36. My oil might not be as much as yours, but

  37. God will hold me accountable for your oil.

  38. We learned this from Elijah.

  39. Go look and see if you see anything in the sky,

  40. and the servant came back nothing. Go look again, nothing,

  41. Go look again, nothing, Go look again, nothing, Go look again, nothing,

  42. Go look again nothing. This is getting really old, Steve.

  43. Can you just get to the point how old would

  44. it get if you were the one running to the

  45. top of the hill to look at nothing, and then finally,

  46. by the time you do see something is so small

  47. you minimize it. There's a cloud, somebody shout, there's a cloud.

  48. The size of a man's hand.

  49. See, it's not the size of the cloud that determines

  50. the size of the blessing. It's not the amount of

  51. the oil. It's not how smart I am, how well

  52. educated I am. It's not even my estimation of myself.

  53. If God calls me and chooses me, nothing on earth.

  54. Shall be able to stop me. Shall if you believe

  55. that in the back of the room, check your oil.

  56. It might not be much, but it's not nothing. It's

  57. not nothing. And I think it's harder than ever to

  58. feel okay about our oil because we got we got

  59. too many ways to check other people's oil, whether it's

  60. their vacation, because that's about to start, you know where

  61. everybody's posting the happiest moments of their vacation this summer,

  62. and it's going to make you feel like a crappy parent,

  63. and it's gonna make you question your oil because they're

  64. gonna all be smiling in the picture. Now, let me

  65. tell you something that happened right before the picture. It

  66. was almost a divorce. Those kids almost went up for adoption.

  67. But they can't put that on the ground. So somebody say,

  68. enjoy your oil. So I'll tell exactly what the devil's doing.

  69. He can't take your gift, he can't take your calling,

  70. the gifts and calling of God, or without repentance, God

  71. doesn't change his mind.

  72. About what he gave you.

  73. If he can get you to think it so little

  74. that you don't use it, he can starve you. I

  75. realize that God gave me a ministry. The devil can't

  76. take the ministry that God gave me. But if I

  77. give up my joy, then I will forfeit my ministry.

  78. If I give up my joy, I will forfeit my marriage.

  79. The devil can't take my marriage.

  80. But if he can get me to despise my oil,

  81. like to make me think I'm not a very good husband,

  82. or I don't have what it takes to be a dad,

  83. then I'll say it's nothing when it's really something. Noticed

  84. by the end of this passage, this woman has a

  85. house full of oil.

  86. It was not until she.

  87. Poured the oil that it became more. And when you

  88. feel poor, you.

  89. Don't poor because you hold on to what you have.

  90. So when you feel like a poor parent, it keeps

  91. you from wanting to try talk to me. And I

  92. can go from here to hear real quick as a.

  93. Parent, real really quick as a parent. You look so

  94. perfected right now.

  95. I can't figure out where one real person in this

  96. whole church is that will say that even and if

  97. you figure out how to change diapers, they stop wearing them.

  98. Doesn't work anymore. So like there are things about me

  99. and things about you that make us feel insecure and

  100. make us say, you know, it's nothing when it's really something, but.

  101. It seems small.

  102. It seems small, and it's overshadowed by something that seems

  103. when the need seems so big compared to the supply,

  104. you call it nothing and you don't use it, and

  105. so it doesn't multiply. You send the crowds away so

  106. they can get something to eat, and you give away

  107. the opportunities God gave you because it's nothing. What you

  108. have is nothing. The need the need is great. And

  109. my marriage just hit a sixteen year milestone. We celebrated

  110. sixteen years of marriage. I love when I do that

  111. because there's always people that have been forty years and

  112. they look at me like, what I think it's significant.

  113. I took Holly to Oak Steakhouse. We dined together. Let

  114. me tell you how good.

  115. The date was. The date was so good.

  116. When we got home, the babysitter was texting us that

  117. the fire alarm was going off in the house. It

  118. was a storm in Charlotte that night and something tripped

  119. the smoke alarm. Abby's freaking out on the porch, and

  120. I had other plans for post date. So I'm driving

  121. fast down the driveway, right, Can.

  122. I talk to y'all?

  123. But the kids are on the porch and the fire

  124. alarms going off in the house and it's not a fire,

  125. and it's the alarm system is bugging.

  126. Out, and she already tried to take the battery out.

  127. So Abby is freaking out, and I'm holding her because

  128. she's seven.

  129. And when I grabbed her, she stopped crying. And I

  130. felt like.

  131. The dad of the decade because I knew what to do.

  132. I knew if I started singing Hamilton from the Hamilton

  133. soundtrack that Abby would stop crying.

  134. And it worked and she stopped crying, and.

  135. I felt like the man for about five minutes until

  136. we had to call the fire department, not to put

  137. out a fire, but to turn off the alarm. What

  138. made it worse was when they got there, when only

  139. the Braves showed up at my house. They're walking down

  140. the driveway. The nicest firefighters you would ever want to see.

  141. Let's hear it for the firefighters.

  142. These men come walking down the driveway and my wife

  143. is the one in the house trying to fix the

  144. detectors because I don't know what to do, and I'm

  145. holding Abby.

  146. And five minutes.

  147. Ago I was the man, and here come the firefighters

  148. and they're looking at me like, really, dude, And I

  149. can tell that the one that's coming in first goes

  150. to the church. He didn't say it, but he had

  151. that look in his eyes, like you're my pastor, and

  152. I'm ashamed of you. You're much bigger on the screen.

  153. What kind of man are you? So I didn't make

  154. eye contact. I just thanked them for their service, and

  155. they got it off and there was no carbon monoxide

  156. and we're alive to tell about it. Isn't it funny

  157. how I was the man one minute?

  158. But then now you.

  159. Got to understand it's little stuff. It's not always some

  160. big shame that the enemy brings to make you feel.

  161. This is where I always got it wrong. I thought

  162. that you had to go through something sexual that cost

  163. you this great traumatic shame to keep you from really

  164. trusting God, or and I thought maybe you had to

  165. go through a season of your life, you know, eight

  166. years in prison or something like that. And then you

  167. would live with regrets. But I found out it is

  168. the seemingly insignificant insecurities that.

  169. Make you feel like I'm not a real man, I'm

  170. not a real mom. Now I'm yelling at my daughter

  171. just like my mom yelled at me, and I'm just

  172. repeating the cycle. And it causes you to despise your oil.

  173. And that's exactly what the enemy wants, is to use

  174. a small little thing to get you to miss.

  175. Your miracle, because your miracle is hidden in what you've
