  1. There are times when the challenge of responsibility will make

  2. you walk away from something that you actually love, and

  3. people will judge you in that moment, and they will

  4. think you're walking away because you're lazy. But you're not

  5. walking away because you're lazy. You're walking away because deep

  6. down inside, I don't know if I have what it takes.

  7. And this is the danger of di engagement. It is

  8. when you find yourself in a state of shame or fear,

  9. or trauma or exhaustion and you walk away from what

  10. God gave you because you don't know how to manage it.

  11. It is the danger of this engagement. It is the

  12. danger of showing up in body and not in mind.

  13. I've learned that there's a big difference between coming to church.

  14. And being in church.

  15. Learned that there is a big difference between coming home

  16. and being home. Y'all ain't gonna say nothing to me

  17. all year? Is that how it's gonna be. You're gonna

  18. look at me crazy all year?

  19. Like that?

  20. There is a big difference between having a child and

  21. being a mom. And sometimes the temptation is not to

  22. exactly run away, but to just disengage. I'm disengaged, not

  23. because I don't care, but just because I'm afraid.

  24. I don't know if I have what it takes. David

  25. was shaken.

  26. The death of Absolom represented his own failure.

  27. If only did you hear him, if only I had

  28. died instead of you, it's my fault. I didn't give

  29. you what you needed, And it's my fault you're dead.

  30. And now it's caught up with him, and he's shaken

  31. and he's disengaged.

  32. He's not defeated, he's disengaged. He has the victory, but

  33. he's not acting like it. He's the king, but he's

  34. not where the king is supposed to be.

  35. See, he's lost his sense.

  36. Of passion because he's moved from his position.

  37. In ancient times, the cities were well.

  38. Guarded by gates. Now David is in Mahanaim, which is

  39. not Jerusalem, the capital city. Apslom is there and he's

  40. going to drive him out, but not yet. The first

  41. thing he has to do is relocate himself around the city.

  42. Are two gates, everybody say two gates. Our theme for

  43. the new year is gates. I want you to pay

  44. great attention right now.

  45. This is very important.

  46. In each city there would be an outer gate that

  47. everybody saw. We all have one of those. We all

  48. have the outer gate that people see. It's our personality

  49. that we rejecting to the world, so people won't judge us,

  50. so we will appear successful. Then there is the inner gate.

  51. It's the second line of defense. We all have one

  52. of those two. It's our actions.

  53. Two gates, two gates, two gates, two dates, two gates,

  54. and the action happens.

  55. Watch this between the gates. The Bible does not say,

  56. put my verse up again? Is my theme verse that

  57. David took his seat at verse eight at the gate,

  58. it says that he got up and took his seat.

  59. What where now?

  60. Up until this point, he's been near the gate, but

  61. he wasn't in it. He was in isolation above the gate,

  62. like a lot of us live our lives watching events unfold,

  63. but not taking responsibility for our outcomes. When we live

  64. online in an ecosystem of pretension and narcissism and opinions,

  65. but don't really make a commitment to make a difference

  66. in the world, and we show up in the places

  67. that are most convenient to our ego, but refuse to confront.

  68. The issues that sabotage our soul.

  69. The action happened between the gates, not outside and not inside,

  70. but often between the gates, transactions would be made.

  71. It was like a market place of the day.

  72. But between the gates of the city there would be

  73. buying and selling and negotiation.

  74. Between the gates.

  75. Profits like Amos would prophesy to maintain justice in the gates.

  76. In the gates.

  77. When Ruth, if you remember the Old Testament story, was

  78. claimed by Boass her kinsman redeemer, he did the deal

  79. in the presence of ten witnesses in the gate.

  80. When Abraham bought the burial.

  81. Ground for Sarah and the Old Testament, he bought it

  82. in the presence of witnesses in the gate. It's where

  83. the witnesses were, It's where the judges would sit, It's

  84. where negotiations happened. It's where the conscience of the nation

  85. was developed. It's where Absalom would stand at the gate

  86. and before people could.

  87. Go through, turn them back.

  88. After he had promoted his own agenda, and everything changed

  89. for David when he did something so simple.

  90. The Bible says that after all.

  91. He had lost, and after all the tears he had cried,

  92. and after all the mistakes he had made. He did

  93. something so simple and so profound. The king got up,

  94. left his chamber.

  95. And took his seat.

  96. In the gate. In other words, I hear David saying,

  97. like Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'm back. My heart is broken, but

  98. i'm back. I made some mistakes, but i'm back. I

  99. wish I could go back and change some things, but

  100. I can't.

  101. But I'm back.

  102. I'm devastated about what happened, but i'm back. I'm uncertain

  103. about the future. I don't know where it's gonna go

  104. from here. I'm a long way from home, but i'm back.

  105. Now.

  106. What I picture in my mind is today thousands of

  107. people who have gathered to hear this message online or

  108. in person at every location. And I see you getting

  109. up from the failure and the shame and the regret

  110. that has kept you paralyzed, and taking your stand in

  111. the Gate of Praise and entering his caates with thanksgiving.

  112. I wish seventy people would sup up on your feet

  113. right now and shout at the top of your lungs.

  114. I'm back.

  115. I'm back. I'm back. Let the devil know I'm back.

  116. Let condemnation know I'm back. Let my pass know I'm back.

  117. I'm not perfect, but I'm back. I don't have it

  118. planned down again, but I'm back.

  119. I don't know what tomorrow's.

  120. Gonna bring, but I'm back. I'm fine. Everybody you can

  121. reach tell me I'm bad.

  122. I'm back in it. I'm pack in it.

  123. Not gonna stand over my life blaming people for the

  124. next twenty years because of the last twenty get they.

  125. May hide me, Satan, I'm bad.

  126. And with the enemy comes, with.

  127. His accusations and his excuses. I want you to look

  128. him square in the eye before the year even gets started,

  129. good and tell him.

  130. Tell them this seat is taken. I set. This seat

  131. is taken.

  132. No room for you to run my life because I

  133. am seated in heavenly.

  134. Places with christ Ah. I'm back in position. I'm back

  135. in purpose.

  136. Get back in the gate. Get back in the gate.

  137. You cannot change what you tolerate. Get back in the gate.

  138. You cannot change what you won't face. Get back in

  139. the gate. You can't change it by complaining. You can't

  140. change it by if only, but now, if you will

  141. take your seat. God has prepared a place for you

  142. in the presence of your enemies.

  143. I not read you of your problems, but he has

  144. given you his freendless get that.
