  1. Since when was the presence of an enemy and an

  2. indication of the absence of God?

  3. This is what I want to ask you.

  4. Since when did God say that I will prove that

  5. I am with you because no enemies will be against you.

  6. Since when did God tell you that the proof of

  7. his presence was the absence of trouble? But something in

  8. them got really twisted. I guess you could say they

  9. started looking at the wrong mirror, and they started talking

  10. about the Anakites. These were legendary giants that occupied the

  11. land of Canaan, and they were like, man, the grapes

  12. are big, and the and the valleys are fertile, and

  13. the land is rich, and the possibility is great, and

  14. the opportunity is open, and it's even better than we thought.

  15. It's even better than we imagine.

  16. But the giants, the giants, they're they're they're bigger than

  17. we are. And watch how their self image limited their potential.

  18. There's a there's nothing in numbers thirteen where they shrink

  19. God down. They still know they have a big God.

  20. It's not that they shrink their God, they shrink themselves

  21. to the level of their situation.

  22. I'm preaching to.

  23. Somebody today who believes that God is big. But until

  24. you see yourself as made in the image of the infinite,

  25. unlimited all wise, ever knowing God, you will stay stuck.

  26. One verse. I want to show you.

  27. I wonder if you ever felt this way, they say,

  28. And there we saw the Nephilum, the sons of Anak,

  29. who come from the Nephilum, And we seemed to ourselves

  30. like grasshoppers, and so we seem to them. That's a

  31. very powerful theological statement and psychological statement, because it says

  32. that the way you see yourself is so important that

  33. it can actually create a reality that is contradictory to

  34. your true identity. And remember, God is forming them as

  35. a nation. He's making them a nation. He's making a

  36. great nation. He saw them out of Egypt. He's done

  37. great things. But now they see a giant. And so

  38. they come to a strange conclusion. Our enemies are so big.

  39. There's no way we can do it. This challenge is

  40. so insurmountable. What's in front of us is so much

  41. bigger than us. There's no way we can do it,

  42. and we can't go forward. And they didn't, and they

  43. died in the desert. My question is why would you

  44. choose to see yourself through the eyes of your enemy?

  45. Why would you give your enemy a mirror to show

  46. you who you are? We do this all the time.

  47. We pick the worst possible thing about.

  48. Ourselves, the things that we can't change, the things that

  49. we don't like, and then we use that as a

  50. mirror to try to get a sense of who we are.

  51. And we lower our ambition to the level of our

  52. worst tendency, and we forget.

  53. That we are made in the image.

  54. Of God because we are too busy looking at our

  55. lives through the eyes of our enemy. Here's how they

  56. could have seen it. If what's in front of us

  57. that God has called us to fight is that big,

  58. I wonder what's within us that God put there to cause.

  59. Us to triumph. Y'all didn't hear me.

  60. You could have said, if God gave me a challenge

  61. this great, If God gave me a mountain this big,

  62. if God gave me this situation to overcome, I wonder

  63. what God knows about me that I don't know about me.

  64. My maker is my mirror.

  65. If he put it in front of me, he already

  66. knows how it's.

  67. Gonna fall back off.

  68. Goliath. I gotta rock in a sling shot. My maker

  69. is my mirror. You come against me with sword and shavelin,

  70. but I come against you in the name of the Lord.

  71. But Caleb had a different spirit. Caleb had a different mirror.

  72. I love him.

  73. Because he walks up to Joshua.

  74. He's like, hey, man, remember when we are at the

  75. edge of the promise and the people saw themselves small,

  76. and they held up a mirror for the rest of

  77. the nation, and the nation saw themselves small. By the way,

  78. be very careful who you surround yourself with, because some

  79. people will be little you to the point that you

  80. will start to believe it. But you are not what

  81. they said. And if they are not your maker, they

  82. don't get to be your mirror. I don't care what

  83. they thought, what they suggested, or what their actions.

  84. May be reflecting. As a matter of fact, can I.

  85. Say something, everybody's acceptance is not a blessing.

  86. Because we got some weird mirrors in the world today,

  87. and some of what the world calls normal, some.

  88. Of what people will say, some of what people will

  89. actually give you validation for, will ruin your vision of.

  90. Who you really are.

  91. I love the Bible because here's why Because it's a mirror.

  92. That's what James said. He said in James one twenty three.

  93. This is the New Testament equivalent of Caleb's speech, because

  94. Caleb was looking in a different mirror to see himself,

  95. and James says, the Word of God gives you a

  96. different mirror.

  97. Is different than your experiences.

  98. It's different than your genetics, is different than your tendencies.

  99. It's different than than than your neural patterns. It's different

  100. than all of that. It's different than your height, or

  101. your weight, or your eye color. It's different than anything

  102. you can see. The Word of God is a different mirror.

  103. But here's what we do. We forget what we saw

  104. in the Word, and we look into the world to

  105. reflect back to us what's inside of us. And so

  106. we stay outside of God's promise forfeiting our possession and

  107. our inheritance as the children of God.

  108. Is like if you.

  109. Listen to the Word and don't do what it says,

  110. you're like a man who looks intently at his natural

  111. face in a mirror.

  112. But then you go away and at once forgets what

  113. he was like. And that's what happens when you leave church.

  114. And you have to go into situations that contradict what

  115. your spirit knows. The most important mirror that I look

  116. in does not show me how to fix my hair.

  117. And y'all, I have one cawlic today.

  118. It took me like seven minutes to try to press

  119. it down, and I don't know if it's stayed or

  120. not because I can't see it right now. I thought

  121. this is so appropriate. Here I am seven minutes trying

  122. to get that hair lay down. But yet I'll leave

  123. the house with just any attitude and not check to

  124. see God.

  125. Y'all know I'm right. Y'all know I'm right.

  126. Sometimes you are seeing yourself through someone else's insecurity. How

  127. other people treat you as not necessarily howel how they

  128. feel about you. A lot of times it's how they

  129. feel about them. I'm preaching to the insides today, you know,

  130. because if somebody's making you feel stupid, guess what they feel.

  131. Their rejection is a reflection not of you, of them.

  132. But if you let them hold your mirror, if you

  133. let the giants hold your mirror, if you see yourself

  134. through your enemy's eyes, you'll start to believe that's how

  135. it really is. That's not how it really is. My

  136. maker is my mirror. My maker is my mirror. Everybody's

  137. acceptance is not a blessing, and everybody's rejection is not

  138. a curse. So Caleb's like, hey, Joshua, I know I'm old,

  139. I know I'm saggy.

  140. I know my right knee goes out, But I.

  141. This, This takes faith to see it because at first

  142. I thought he was lying right, But then I studied

  143. the language, and he said twice in verse.

  144. Ten, behold behold. It lets me know that.

  145. Caleb had a different mirror because he's looking at a

  146. natural mirror.

  147. And he's like, dangnyeah, come on, he's eighty five.

  148. There's no way that what he said is true on

  149. a tactical and practical level.

  150. Because he goes up to Joshua. He's like, I still

  151. got it.

  152. Come on, touch somebody, it'll beal fun. Say.

  153. I still got it.

  154. I went through forty five years of wildernes, but the wilderness.

  155. Didn't get in me.

  156. I still got it. I still want what God has

  157. for me. I still got a fighting spirit. In fact,

  158. what I survived didn't make me weaker. It just made

  159. me stronger. It just made me more resolved. I still

  160. got it. I still got hope, I still got a twinkle.

  161. You'll see my eyes. I still got a word. Give

  162. me my mountain. I want to live in that high.

  163. Altitude, and I'm glad that I don't have to look

  164. in the mirror of another person's.

  165. Opinion or in the mirror of a desolate situation. You know,

  166. by this point, Caleb could have been like, I'm such

  167. a failure. I tried to motivate the people to go

  168. in and they did it. He could have spent forty

  169. five years playing that story. But by this point he's

  170. in a different mirror, and he says, my strength has

  171. only gotten greater because of what I went through. I'm

  172. not ashamed of the wilderness. I'm not ashamed of the mistakes.

  173. God said, some of you keep looking into the mirror

  174. of your mistakes, and you keep reflecting your future back

  175. to yourself in through the reflection of your mistakes.

  176. But if there's one thing you notice.

  177. About a mirror, it always shows you the image backward.

  178. That's why God knows the end from the beginning. So

  179. God doesn't see your life like you see your life.

  180. He sees it in reverse, and he already sees you free.

  181. So He says that you're free because he sees that

  182. you're free even when you don't feel free.

  183. It's a word, it's a word. This is a mirror.

  184. This is a mirror for you to look into today

  185. and yourself as the image of God. Behold, I still

  186. got strength that you can't see.
