  1. But blame can be a way of escape.

  2. You hear me preaching to you.

  3. Today, because blame will get you out of having to

  4. take responsibility. The only problem is it gives the keys

  5. to your freedom to whoever you blame for the situation.

  6. And now you're enslaved too the very thing that you

  7. were trying to escape from. Now you're enslaved to bitterness

  8. because you escape through blame.

  9. I could do this all day long.

  10. I could talk about how when you feel trapped in something,

  11. it's important what you trust in because whatever you trust

  12. becomes your master.

  13. What are you escaping to? What are you escaping from?

  14. And have you escape to something that has now started

  15. to enslave you. Cynicism is an escape because it hurts

  16. to have hope. It opens the door to disappointment. So

  17. you just be life to the punch. You just expect

  18. the worst. That way you're not surprised and you put

  19. your faith in reverse and call it realism. So what's

  20. really sad about coming through the red sea is that

  21. after all the miracles that God does for you, and

  22. after the way that He saves you, and after the

  23. way that He becomes personal in your life. The Bible

  24. says that even after they went through the Red Sea

  25. passed under the cloud through Moses. After he references this

  26. Exodus motif that is so prevalent in the Jewish scriptures,

  27. he says in verse five, nevertheless, God was not pleased

  28. with most of them, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

  29. And that's where the battle is in the wilderness.

  30. In Jesus went through the wilderness, and what you do

  31. in the wilderness determines whether you stay enslaved or move

  32. forward into freedom. We don't just pass through the wilderness

  33. once in our lives. The wilderness is not something you

  34. did eighteen years ago. The wilderness isn't just when you

  35. lost your first job. The wilderness can happen several times

  36. any given week. I asked my friend before I came out,

  37. how was your week?

  38. And I said, I take it back.

  39. I hate that question because you could ask me that

  40. hour by hour and get a different answer. There are

  41. some weeks I have where Monday is milk and honey,

  42. and Tuesday is Canaanites, Hittites, jebuzdes perizites, termites, cellulites.

  43. And when they went to the wilderness, they were overthrown.

  44. They grumble. They wanted out, you know where they wanted

  45. to go each at least we could eat in Egypt.

  46. Never mind, you forgot about the fact that they gave

  47. you mud without straw, trying to get you to make

  48. bricks without giving you materials. Never mind that the devil

  49. has constantly been trying to keep you all your life

  50. in a state of feeling like you're not enough. You

  51. just want to go back to the world, because at

  52. least it works for a little while. So we escape.

  53. We want to build a tunnel back to Egypt, and

  54. then the tunnel becomes a trap, and they died in

  55. the wilderness. They died in the place where there was

  56. no water. They died in the place where there was

  57. no worship. They died in the place where there was

  58. no perspective. It's interesting, then, that the Bible says that

  59. Jesus is a great high priest and that he is

  60. able to be touched with the feelings of our infirmities.

  61. In fact, it says that he was tempted in every

  62. way like we are.

  63. Now. I read that and started to argue with the Bible.

  64. Jesus didn't have kids, he wasn't tempted in every way

  65. as I am. He didn't ever want to choke the

  66. very life that he produced. Jesus didn't have Amazon Prime.

  67. But yet it says that he faced every temptation, because

  68. there's really only three. I know we make it complicated,

  69. but the Bible condenses it and says that any temptation

  70. you're facing today, not just the external ones, the internal ones.

  71. The same Bible that gives commands about sexuality gives commands

  72. about worry. So don't think the temptation is only for

  73. one person. It said, in every temptation, Jesus faced it.

  74. Yet he was without sin. He was he was perfect

  75. in the ways that we will never be. And guess

  76. where he went to prove his perfection. Let me show

  77. you this. In Matthew chapter four, give me the verse,

  78. it says that Jesus was led up by the spirit

  79. into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Why

  80. would God remember the lord's prayer? My father worn't having

  81. hellpy the name Kniclon will be down.

  82. And lead us not into And the spirit.

  83. Led Jesus to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

  84. So Jesus is driven is the more accurate word than

  85. lead sounds nice, driven is more accurate.

  86. He had to go to the wilderness.

  87. Why why did Jesus have to come incarnate the word

  88. made flesh. Why did Jesus have to take on the

  89. form of human weakness and go to the wilderness. It

  90. says that they were overthrown in the wilderness when Jesus

  91. came on the scene. The true Israel, the true expression

  92. of God, the second atom. When Jesus came the man

  93. who is fully man and fully God, Jesus, who is

  94. the express image of the radiance of God, Jesus by whom,

  95. for whom through whom all things were created that were created.

  96. Jesus came to the wilderness. Watch this for a rematch.

  97. See in your flesh, in your power, in your strength,

  98. in your mind, in your human ingenuity, you are no

  99. match for the devil in the wilderness. Jesus showed up

  100. in the wilderness because of unfinished business on behalf of

  101. anyone who would believe on his name and call on

  102. him in.

  103. The day of trouble.

  104. So Jesus, after fasting for forty days and forty nights,

  105. had to pay a visit to the devil in the wilderness.

  106. Jesus came from heaven, which was Christine, to the earth

  107. to visit your enemy and pay a visit to what

  108. is tormenting you, to let the enemy know that he

  109. might be bigger than you, but you've got a big

  110. brother and a high priest who knows your weakness. And

  111. he went to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

  112. So now this is going to be interesting, because how

  113. do you tempt the son of God. Maybe if you

  114. can get him to question his identity and the devil

  115. hits him with three temptations. Remember there's only three. They're

  116. all three listed in one John two point fifteen.

  117. Spoiler alert. The devil is not creative.

  118. There's only three things he can tempt you with to

  119. try to get you to be something that you're not.

  120. There's only three things he can tempt you with. It's

  121. the lust of the flesh. That's what I feel like

  122. doing the email I feel like sending. The lust of

  123. the eyes is what my senses tell me, living by senses,

  124. living by surface appearances. And then there's the pride of life.

  125. That's what I think I know, That's what I tell

  126. myself that I know when I start being like Adam

  127. and Eve in the garden. Their sin wasn't eating an apple.

  128. Their sin will that they thought they were like God,

  129. knowing the difference between good and evil. That's what the

  130. sin was in the garden, and that's what it is today.

  131. It's the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes,

  132. the pride of life. If you're sixteen, if you're sixty one,

  133. it's the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes.

  134. The pride of life. I told God, I can't push

  135. this to the whole church.

  136. This is the youth sermon, he said, tell them just

  137. like they told them, some of them. If they would

  138. have heard this sermon when they were sixteen, they wouldn't

  139. be struggling with what they're struggling.

  140. With at sixty one. But you're hearing it now. You're

  141. hearing it now.

  142. So so the lust of the flesh he catches Jesus hungry.

  143. He's been fast than forty days, forty nights, and he's hungry.

  144. He's hungry. The devil always knows when you're hungry. And

  145. if you only come to church every five weeks when

  146. it's convenient, you are going to be too hungry to

  147. be strong.

  148. Against the tim of the enemy.

  149. I got six claps, and one is my mom.

  150. But it's true all the same.

  151. You're too hungry. You eat junk when you're hungry. You're susceptible.

  152. When you're hungry. You try to turn stones into bread.

  153. When you're hungry, you try to eat stuff that won't satisfy.

  154. You try to live up of people's compliments when only

  155. God's validation is able to sustain you. That's the lust

  156. of the flesh. It's the pride of life. He said, Okay,

  157. if you won't turn the stones into bread, then throw

  158. yourself off this cliff.

  159. Watch this. Prove it.

  160. Prove you're the child of God. Prove you're a real man.

  161. Prove your intelligence, prove your worth. Just keep earning and

  162. earning and chasing and chasing, and never stop to ask why,

  163. and never stop to be generous. Just keep proving it.

  164. Just keep going out there confident, and never really admit

  165. your need to anyone so that they can see the

  166. real you and give the water to your soul.

  167. That you need to make it. Just prove it. It's

  168. a prival life. And then there's the lust of the eyes.

  169. You know. He took him up on a high mountain,

  170. showed him all the kingdoms of the world. By the way,

  171. Jesus didn't leave the wilderness and go to another place,

  172. because the temptation is always on the movie screen in

  173. your mind. And he showed him something that looked like

  174. an opportunity. But Jesus knew that he came for the cross.

  175. The devil said, if you bow down and worship me,

  176. I'll give you all this, and you don't even have

  177. to go to the cross. Just like God will offer

  178. a way of escape, so will the enemy. But when

  179. the way of escape becomes just another set of chains,

  180. Jesus set away from me, Satan, for it is written,

  181. you shall worship the Lord God only, and him only

  182. will you serve Jesus in the wilderness forty days, forty nights.

  183. Why forty that's the exact number of years that the

  184. nation of Israel has been in the wilderness. Jesus said,

  185. I'm going to do in forty days what you couldn't

  186. do in forty years. And no temptation come on by,

  187. be lovers, No temptation has overtaken you. The same grace

  188. that enabled Jesus, the same spirit that enabled Jesus to

  189. endure the cross and despise the same and sit down

  190. at the right hand of God.

  191. This spirit lives in you. Hey, thank you for watching.
