  1. Don't you know that when opportunity comes to the door,

  2. opposition comes with it. Don't you know that sometimes they

  3. are one and the same. This is what I'm learning.

  4. I'm learning that a lot of times, when I open

  5. the door and see something that I would love to

  6. send away in my life, a challenge that I wish

  7. didn't come, it is actually the opportunity for God to

  8. teach me to trust him. Kind Of hard to say

  9. amen to that, because usually you want God to knock

  10. and come in with a flower bouquet. It's kind of

  11. hard to know that it's God knocking unless you walk

  12. with him a while, and then you hear the knock

  13. the next time, and you know, whatever is at the door,

  14. even if God.

  15. Didn't send it, he's going to use it.

  16. And the church is praying for Peter, but they're still

  17. broken hearted about James. Did you notice that part in

  18. the passage where it said that he had just killed

  19. James with the sword. That means he cut his head off.

  20. That means that he was coming after the head. He

  21. was trying to stop the movement of Christianity because he

  22. knew it would appease the Jews, and he knew that

  23. in this great time of opportunity for the church.

  24. It was a time of opportunity for him to advance

  25. his human agenda. And so the church is praying.

  26. That the church is knocking on the door of heaven

  27. asking God to do something in the situation, and Peter

  28. is in prison while the church is praying. Now, one

  29. interesting thing about this text, Is it right if I

  30. teach the Bible for a minute?

  31. Okay?

  32. Because it's interesting to note that that Peter has no

  33. idea at this moment what the people are doing, and

  34. the people have no idea how Peter is doing. Sometimes

  35. you've got to pray by faith, not even knowing if

  36. it's doing any good in your life. And sometimes the

  37. proof that your prayers and faith are working is that

  38. the opposition increases. Good God, help me get this message

  39. to the back row, because somebody has been wondering, is

  40. God even still with me?

  41. Is God using me? Is this even worth it?

  42. But there's something about that that should let you know

  43. that if the devil showed up in the first place,

  44. there must be something important, and he must be defending

  45. his territory.

  46. Or else he wouldn't bother with you. So Peter was

  47. in prison, but the church was praying.

  48. And and now would be a good time for us

  49. to check on Peter, right because we got to see

  50. we know what the church was doing. They gathered together

  51. for prayer meeting, and they got in there and they

  52. started joining their faith together. And Peter is in prison,

  53. and he's just hours away from his trial, and if

  54. it turns out the same way that James has turned out,

  55. this will be his last night on the planet. So

  56. it's that kind of pressure. Let's see what he's doing.

  57. Let's check in on a nannycam on Peter the Rock.

  58. Let's check on Peter on the eve of his potential

  59. probable execution.

  60. Verse six.

  61. The night before pard was to bring him to trial,

  62. Peter was, I need somebody to fix that in the back.

  63. That can't be with the verses, How are you going

  64. to sleep when your life is on the line? Y'all

  65. need to fix that verse because that's not That's not possible,

  66. is it.

  67. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial,

  68. Peter was what.

  69. Pacing, praising, praying, how can you sleep at a time

  70. like this?

  71. That really got me because I did not expect Peter

  72. to be sleeping at this moment.

  73. I did not there is Let me tell you this

  74. right now, and this is just a confession. There is

  75. not enough lu NESSA in the pharmacy. There is not

  76. enough ambient on earth.

  77. That I could sleep when I have to, especially after

  78. what happened to James, especially knowing this might not turn

  79. out well. We prayed for James, and look what happened

  80. to him, And now they got me too.

  81. And Peter put it back up.

  82. There is sleeping between two. So how about that? Have

  83. you ever had to sleep in between? Come on, y'all,

  84. I came back to preach. I didn't come back to

  85. have coffee. Have you ever had to sleep between? I

  86. don't know how this is gonna turn out, but I

  87. got to sleep in between.

  88. I gotta sleep.

  89. I don't really know if this situation is gonna get

  90. better or what the doctor's gonna say next time I

  91. go back, but I got to sleep in between. I'm

  92. in a tight space and I don't know if I'm

  93. gonna make it out, but I got to sleep in between.

  94. Peter was sleeping in between. No, He's come a long way,

  95. hasn't he? Remember when Jesus was telling Peter, you gotta

  96. go to the cross and Peter's arguing with Jesus, and

  97. he's trying.

  98. To tell Jesus, you'll never go to the cross. He's

  99. trying to give Jesus his plan for Jesus. He's trying

  100. to create the.

  101. Itinerary for the son of God who created time. And

  102. now he's sleeping. What did Peter know that enabled him

  103. to sleep between two soldiers? He was sleeping. Put it

  104. back up. I'm not done with a verse. He was

  105. sleeping in the greatest trial of his life. He was

  106. sleeping between two soldiers bound with two chains. Some scholars

  107. think that Lil Wayne could have been in the next cell.

  108. A lot of people were there, and Sentry stood guard

  109. at the entrance, and so he was sleeping.

  110. What did he know that enabled him to sleep in between?

  111. What did he maybe suggestion?

  112. He wasn't sleeping because of something he knew with his senses.

  113. Maybe he was sleeping because of something that he saw

  114. in his spirit. And maybe what he saw in his

  115. spirit was a direct reflection of an experience that he

  116. had with Jesus. Because remember in the boat one night

  117. when they were going to the other side. But then

  118. in between where they were and where they were going,

  119. they hit a storm.

  120. Sometimes you set.

  121. Out for the destination, but it's in between that your

  122. faith has to kick in to believe God. And when

  123. all the disciples were straining, the Bible says they were

  124. straining at the ore. They were straining against the wind,

  125. they were straining against the waves. And while they were straining,

  126. they went down to check out Jesus, and they were

  127. surprised to find out that while they were straining, Jesus sleeping.

  128. So maybe when Peter found out, they might kill me.

  129. He decided, there's only so much I can do about this,

  130. and when I get to the other side, I'm gonna

  131. need all my strength. So I'm gonna sleep in between.

  132. This is God's word for somebody. God said, I can

  133. do more while you're sleeping than you can while you're straining.

  134. And if you will get out of the way and

  135. out of your flesh and out of your anxiety, the

  136. disciple said.

  137. Jesus, don't you care we're in this storm.

  138. Jesus said, this is how I fight mine.

  139. My friend Joseph Prince says, rip rest is power.

  140. And so it's a beautiful picture that he would sleep

  141. and trust God. When Herod comes knocking Peter's faith answers

  142. the door.

  143. Coming to get you, Peter, but he's learned something.

  144. He's learned that obedience always comes before freedom. Now I

  145. mentioned this because I see a lot of people on Instagram.

  146. I haven't been on Instagram in two months, y'all. And

  147. let me tell you, it's amazing. The birds are chirping,

  148. the sun is beautiful.

  149. You'd be shocked how nice the world looks when there's

  150. not a screen in front of your face, a pretend universe.

  151. Just a thought. I've had a great summer.

  152. I got ten I detox from everybody's pretend life, and

  153. I'm just happy about it. And then, and then, and

  154. then Peter has to do something that's very difficult to

  155. do because you know, we all we all want opportunities

  156. to come our way, and opportunities are weird because they

  157. don't show up looking like opportunities.

  158. When they knock, they just look like obedience.

  159. Everybody will say like I want to kill my Goliath.

  160. I want to take down my giant. You know, in

  161. church we say stuff like that. I probably don't say

  162. that if they don't go to church. But you know, well,

  163. Goliath didn't come knocking on David's door.

  164. Hey David, I'm Deliath. If you come me today, you

  165. can become a king of Israel and have great status.

  166. And well, no, that's it.

  167. David's dad came to his door, say get this bread

  168. down to your brothers, because when opportunity knocks, it just

  169. looks like obedience. That's all it looks like.

  170. It doesn't look like something big, it doesn't look like

  171. something extraordinary.

  172. Now Peter's about to get a big miracle, but I

  173. want you to notice how he gets it, and most

  174. of us would not have gotten it because spoiler alert,

  175. Peter's about to get out of jail.

  176. He's not going to die. He's still got work to do.

  177. Peter's not going to die in this moment because God

  178. still has a purpose, because Peter is invincible until God's

  179. purpose for him is completed. And so Peter's not going

  180. to die in this but he doesn't know that yet.

  181. As far as he knows, it's over. But he's sleeping.

  182. And so while he's asleep, look at verse six and

  183. how God God interrupts his what.

  184. Do you call it?

  185. Rim cycle? Because Peter's in a deep sleep. I'll show

  186. you in a minute's in the text Bible is so

  187. fun to read. I want you to read it between Sundays.

  188. It's real good. It's real good without me here talking

  189. about it. It's real good. So it says, suddenly verse seven,

  190. just like in a deep sleep bow, suddenly an angel

  191. of the Lord appeared. And he didn't not He just

  192. came in and and a light shone in the cell.

  193. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up.

  194. And I guess Peter wasn't all the way awake because

  195. the angel said, quick get up, and the chains fell

  196. off Peter's wrists.

  197. Now, please leave that verse on the screen because I

  198. want to show something.

  199. It said, quick get up, and the chains fell off

  200. Peter's wrist. Now the natural sequence would be the chains

  201. fell off Peter's wrist, and so he got up, But.

  202. It doesn't say that.

  203. It says that the angel told him get up, and

  204. when he got up, the chains.

  205. Fell off his wrist. You see it.

  206. So we think the chains are gonna fall off, and

  207. it's gonna get easier, and we're gonna feel free and

  208. then we can obey God.

  209. No, you get up and then chains.

  210. Fall off, because obedience comes before freedom. You got to

  211. answer the door and knock, even if you're not.

  212. Sure it's God.

  213. You gotta be kind to people, even if you don't

  214. know if they're gonna do anything for you in return.

  215. So obedience that creates freedom, freedom from what, freedom from

  216. needing to know the outcome before you take the step.
