  1. I'm preaching today to somebody who is in a transition

  2. in your life that is significant, and it is the

  3. most significant place of opportunity, and it is the most

  4. vulnerable place of insecurity at those points of transition.

  5. And maybe I should show you in the text.

  6. Go all the way back up to Acts, chapter three,

  7. verse one. Y'all feel like studying the Bible a little

  8. bit today, Let's look at it now. Peter and John,

  9. we're going up to the temple at the hour of prayer,

  10. the ninth hour, and a man who was laying from

  11. birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the

  12. gate of the temple called Beautiful to ask alms from

  13. those entering the temple. Everything I just said is transitional.

  14. Every single component of the verses I just read has

  15. a transitional element.

  16. And when I saw that in the text, I was like, this.

  17. Is perfect for what we're trying to understand in our lives,

  18. because our lives are constantly changing, and they're changing so

  19. fast that by the time we recognize the change, we

  20. don't have time to make the adjustment.

  21. By the time we know how to be.

  22. A good parent, they are fifty three years old by

  23. the time we know what we should have saved money

  24. for is too late, and the bill is already overdue.

  25. By the time we get the wisdom, we don't have

  26. to strength to implement it because we're tired from all

  27. of our dumb mistakes.

  28. So when I read it and I realized.

  29. Everything is transitional, put it up again, Acts three, verse one.

  30. Now it's a transitional word. Peter and John were going

  31. up to the temple. They were on the way somewhere

  32. at the hour of prayer. It was a transitional time.

  33. So they're going about their day and now it's time to.

  34. Pray, ding ding ding. Everybody to the temple.

  35. Peter and John are transitioning to the temple. They are

  36. transitioning in their ministry because up until this point they've

  37. all always had Jesus in human form to supervise their

  38. miracle working attempts.

  39. And efforts, and sometimes.

  40. They didn't get it right, and he was there to

  41. correct them. But he's not here in human form anymore,

  42. and they are in transition, and so now here they're

  43. going to church at three in the afternoon.

  44. That's what the ninth hour means.

  45. It's a transitional period where all good Jewish men and

  46. women would go to.

  47. The synagogue for prayer.

  48. Peter and Johnner are moving toward the temple transitional period

  49. for the church transitional moment.

  50. In their day. In between two activities.

  51. Then it says that verse two, there was a man

  52. who was being carried, whom they laid daily at the

  53. gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate.

  54. So now the church as.

  55. A whole is in transition, as the Spirit of God

  56. is beginning to manifest himself through signs, miracles, and wonders

  57. through the hands of the apostles. Peter and John are

  58. in transition on their way to the temple, which is

  59. their daily routine, and there's a man who the Bible

  60. says it is being carried. I don't know how I

  61. missed this for so many years. I always pictured this

  62. miracle with the man already laying beside the gate. But

  63. he wasn't at the gate yet. The Bible says he

  64. was in transition. He wasn't even in.

  65. The spot yet.

  66. Because see, like if you were gonna make it and

  67. you couldn't walk, you had to have a racket. And

  68. so the best place you could go pick a spot.

  69. While people are going to church and they would do

  70. it different. They wouldn't get you on the way out

  71. because you already gave an offering in church, so they

  72. would get you on the way in, right, And if

  73. you can catch them on the way in, maybe they'll

  74. drop you some change, and maybe they'll you know, is

  75. considered piety to give alms, and so they're catching people

  76. with a gift shop at the gate by the temple.

  77. He wouldn't have been the only one. This was a

  78. very commonplace to set up. But I was blessed by this,

  79. and I thought you maybe too. He wasn't even in

  80. his spot yet when God decided to give him a miracle.

  81. I think a lot of times that if I could

  82. get here, or if I could if I could if

  83. I could arrive there, or if I could accomplish this,

  84. or if I could do that, or if I could

  85. fix it, or if I could establish it, or.

  86. If I could move through it.

  87. But I want you to notice this is a transitional miracle.

  88. It means that Church hasn't even started yet, but God

  89. is already on the scene.

  90. It means that.

  91. God does not need for your life to be at

  92. a certain point where people say it should be in

  93. order to bless you. So this is for everybody who

  94. is in transition. And I don't know if you're switching jobs.

  95. I don't know if.

  96. You're switching girlfriends. I don't know if you're switching schools.

  97. I don't know if you're switching ways of living. I

  98. don't know if you're switching from You used to get

  99. high on a substance, but now you're trying to connect

  100. to Christ.

  101. I don't know what the switch is. But I love

  102. the fact.

  103. That God was waiting to bless the person before he

  104. even got to the spot. It is a transitional miracle.

  105. And here's what I wanted to say. God is gonna

  106. bless you on the way. God is gonna bless you.

  107. He's gonna meet you and cut you off on your

  108. way to your spot and bless you anyway. How many

  109. No God can cut you off and bless you. So

  110. he was about to go into the gate. And what

  111. is a gate. It's a symbol of transition. Everything in

  112. the text is pointing me to the fact that God

  113. is most active in moments.

  114. Of what I perceive to be instability and transition.

  115. Now, feel the Holy Spirit just all up in your stuff,

  116. because there's something you're trying to get through, but you

  117. don't have to wait to get through it. You can

  118. believe God right smack dab in the middle of it.

  119. It sounds good, preach is good, doesn't feel good. I mean,

  120. it's so weird how we ask God to change our

  121. lives and when he really does. Because now he changed

  122. your life. Now it's going to change your friends. Now

  123. he changed your life. Now it's gonna affect how you

  124. spend your time. Now he changed your life, and now

  125. it's gonna destabilize everything that you've come to depend on.

  126. It's a transitional text. It's a transitional moment.

  127. For the author Luke, as he's compiling.

  128. A history of the church. He's going from an explanation

  129. to a demonstration. That's when it gets good.

  130. When you go from theoretically believing something to practically acting

  131. it out.

  132. In your life. The miracle is in the transition. That's

  133. how we walk.

  134. Right, I transition the weight of my body. And until

  135. I transition the weight, I cannot move. The center of

  136. gravity must change in the same way. Every time God

  137. is moving you forward in your life, there will be

  138. a period of transitional instability. In this passage, the man

  139. has never walked before in his life.

  140. He's being carried to the gate.

  141. Peter and John are going to church, and in transition,

  142. God sets up a moment for transformation, and when it

  143. happens is so shocking, not only to the onlookers and

  144. not only to Peter and John who are just trying

  145. to get to Sunday school. Now this is important too.

  146. Can I throw this in? This is for free. I

  147. won't say it in the next service. I will just

  148. say it for you, all right, Yellow first to the trough.

  149. You know, the early bird in the worm and all that.

  150. It all applies right now, now look at me. The

  151. first miracle that is recorded in the Book of Acts

  152. was waiting in something that everybody else was stepping over

  153. to get to something they deemed more important.

  154. That's just for y'all. Now let's look at it. And Peter.

  155. Now they saw Peter and John. This man is.

  156. On his way to his spot. Peter and John are

  157. on the way to church. Study in the Bible, how

  158. many things that happen on the way. How active God

  159. is in the journey in transition. How many things that

  160. God uses to change our life happen in between two

  161. fixed points that we deem important, just all the little

  162. places Jesus would stop and do a miracle, because you

  163. know that the feeding of the five thousand was.

  164. Not on jesus itinerary.

  165. He was just trying to get somewhere else, and there

  166. happened to be twenty thousand people that wanted to hear

  167. him teach. Some of the greatest stuff that God will

  168. do in your day will not be on your calendar.

  169. Some of the greatest stuff that God will do in

  170. your life will not be in your five year plan.

  171. Come on, some of the greatest stuff that God will

  172. reveal in your life will not be on your dream board.

  173. And they're just trying to get to church, and the

  174. man is just trying to get something to eat. And

  175. they meet in transition, and God is in position, and

  176. the man is in transition, and Peter and John are

  177. in transition, and God is positioning all of it, just

  178. like he is in your life today, just like he

  179. is in your family, just like he is in your situation,

  180. just like.

  181. He is in our church. And He's arranging a meeting.

  182. And the man sees Peter and John and he asked

  183. to receive alms, and Peter verse four directed his gaze

  184. at him, as did John, and said, look at us.

  185. And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive

  186. something from them. I always like to say that he

  187. was expecting the wrong kind of change. He wanted to know,

  188. do you have a few quarters? Do you have a

  189. few dimes? And Jesus like, the one thing I've learned

  190. about him is sometimes he doesn't meet your expectation because

  191. he wants to exceed it. Don't be too disappointed if

  192. God didn't give you what you wanted.

  193. This man, in this moment is about.

  194. To receive a change that he didn't even have the

  195. faith to ask for. And God sets up at his spot,

  196. you know, the spot where he was just going to

  197. beg and get through another day and some change, some

  198. spait change, and Peter's like, oh, I got change for you.

  199. See this is a transitional moment. Remember that Jesus said

  200. that if you ask anything in my name, I'll give.

  201. It to you.

  202. His name represents his authority and his power, and so

  203. when Peter said it, what he said next in the

  204. next verse, I have no silver in gold, but what.

  205. I do have I give to you. At first, this

  206. man is thinking, oh, another one of those Christians that

  207. leaves you a track and doesn't leave you a tip

  208. at the restaurant, that'll send you straight to hell.

  209. By the way, if you don't.

  210. Tip your server twenty percent, don't come to Elevation Church

  211. twenty percent.

  212. If they spit in your drink twenty percent.

  213. But Peter is saying, now, look, let's get past what

  214. you expected. Let's get past this temporary change that you desire.

  215. I have no silver and gold. But what I do

  216. have I have a name. It is not my name,

  217. because in my name you get nothing.

  218. In my ability, there is limited strength, power and resource.

  219. But I know a name, and the one who has

  220. this name gave it to me. So I'm not operating

  221. in my own authority. But watch, this is the transition

  222. of power. Jesus said, if you wait for my spirit,

  223. you can.

  224. Receive my power. So if you don't.

  225. Get out and move the way that you think you

  226. ought to move, but wait for me to direct your path.

  227. If you will be in position, you can receive my power.

  228. Who in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise

  229. up and walk? And he took him by the right hand.

  230. Why the right hand, that's the hand of authority. Why

  231. the right hand, because all power and authority was given

  232. to Jesus. Come on, get happy with me. I don't

  233. care if it's fifty of y'all, but God said I'm

  234. standing over your situation, presiding and prevailing.
