  1. And some of us have the wrong interpreter. We are

  2. interpreting our present through our past. We are interpreting our

  3. purpose through our pain. We are interpreting our entire life

  4. through one little situation. We are interpreting our future through

  5. our flaws. When you have the wrong interpreter, messages everything up.

  6. The first time I went to speak in a country

  7. where they didn't speak English, the first international speaking.

  8. Trip that I remember was Australia.

  9. That they speak kind of English. To pick on the

  10. ussis they shorten everything. They kind of speak English, but

  11. they nickname everything. They call praise songs praises, and that's weird.

  12. And when I go over there, they don't call me Steve,

  13. and they call me Steve. And there's an inn on

  14. my name for a reason my mom put it there.

  15. Would you please let my consonants come through customs and

  16. put the in on the end of my name.

  17. I love Australia've been there many times.

  18. But one time I went to preach in a place

  19. where they didn't speak English, and I called a wiser

  20. minister who had preach many times in international settings and said,

  21. give me some just different things I need to know

  22. about preaching through an interpreter. Translator is for written, interpreter

  23. is for spoken. I said, I need I need some

  24. of your wisdom on speaking through an interpreter. He gave

  25. me a few things, but one thing he said that

  26. stood out. He said, First, pray that you get a

  27. good one. He said, because you'll think that he's saying

  28. what you said, and sometimes you can tell. I said,

  29. how will I tell if I have a bad interpreter?

  30. He said, one thing. He'll talk longer than.

  31. You When you finish your sentence, he'll say three sentences.

  32. That means he's putting something in that you didn't intend

  33. to say. Can I tell y'all something The devil has

  34. been putting some stuff in. Come on between what God

  35. has spoken to you. He puts thoughts in people's minds

  36. about you, in your mind that they weren't even thinking

  37. about you. Makes you paranoid. Oh man, look how they're

  38. looking at me. They don't like me. No, they actually

  39. don't like their husband. And they came to work in

  40. a bad mood because.

  41. Of something else that had nothing to do with you.

  42. But the devil will make you think that they don't

  43. like you because he's an interpreter.

  44. That likes to add. He puts all that you have.

  45. You ever had this happen before in a situation where

  46. you start interpreting it wrong, And now all of a sudden,

  47. you're thinking that they said things or thought things.

  48. That they didn't say or think.

  49. He said, the other extreme you got to look out for.

  50. Sometimes they won't say everything that you just said. They'll

  51. cut it short, he said. Sometimes they'll leave stuff out.

  52. And that's what the enemy will do. When you let

  53. him interpret your life. He'll only show you what's wrong

  54. with you, but he won't let you see how God

  55. is going to use everything that you consider to be

  56. a deficiency.

  57. To bring you into your destiny. So he will only

  58. keep you confined.

  59. Come on, church, that golf clap that's not even worth doing.

  60. If you're going to brace God and worship God. Well

  61. what he's spoken over your life, and the fact that

  62. no man can add to it or subtract from it.

  63. If he said it, it will happen. If he said in

  64. three days, he will rise. I might be on a

  65. cross now.

  66. Baby, but refurrection power is in my god future.

  67. So before we leave this place.

  68. Today, I just want to give you five things to

  69. pray for don't get nervous were we are now approaching

  70. our initial dissent.

  71. Make sure your bibles are securely open. But I thought

  72. we would just spell out the word.

  73. Dream, because Joseph interpreted not only the dream of the prisoners,

  74. not only the dream of Pharaoh, but his own dream

  75. that he had at seventeen years old.

  76. Not through the lens of what he had lost in

  77. his life. You know how you keep doing it?

  78. You keep get You keep focusing so much on who

  79. left you and the opportunity that you wasted, that you

  80. keep bringing that forward with you into the next opportunity.

  81. And it's messing with you. And you need the Holy Spirit.

  82. This is what the Holy Spirit does.

  83. Speak in tongues. That's awesome.

  84. Shout at the top of your lungs, that's awesome.

  85. Get a goosebump. I'll get one with you. We'll we'll goose,

  86. we'll rub our goosebumps together. It's all wonderful.

  87. But what I really need the Spirit of God for

  88. is for those groans that words can express. And I'll

  89. give them to you and we'll go and we'll call

  90. it a day, and we'll call it a series. But

  91. the first one that I'm praying for the power to interpret,

  92. like Paul said, because I know that interpretations belong to God.

  93. So I need God.

  94. God help me to interpret my desires times know why

  95. I want what I want, And neither did Paul.

  96. He was like, what I want to do it? Don't

  97. do what I don't want to do it. Don't do

  98. that didn't make any sense. If you want to do it,

  99. you want to do it. What do you mean you

  100. want to do it? You don't do it? Like, well,

  101. there's flesh, there's the spirit. I got a new nature.

  102. I love God, and then four minutes later, I really, I.

  103. Really still love God, but.

  104. I love something that's the opposite of God too, And

  105. I don't know what to do, and I need the

  106. Holy Spirit to show me why I want what I want,

  107. because if the Holy Spirit doesn't interpret my desires, I

  108. will run around my whole life trying to get what

  109. I want, and then when I get it, I won't

  110. even want what I've got. God help me interpret my desires,

  111. because sometimes what will happen is it's not like one

  112. desire is divine and one is demonic, and you know

  113. there's no devil and no angel.

  114. Some times what the enemy will do to.

  115. Me is he'll take a god given desire and distort it.

  116. And what I really want is not a bad thing.

  117. It's not a bad desire.

  118. I notice a lot of people these days seem to

  119. want to be famous, famous for what famous? So I

  120. could be famous?

  121. Have you noticed that.

  122. Fame is like the number one cultural value now? And

  123. I was thinking about that as to why everybody wants

  124. to be famous. I mean, you think about it, famous kind.

  125. Of a weird thing.

  126. People aren't really built to receive that amount of attention.

  127. And when you see the number of famous people who

  128. are famous and don't even want to go on living,

  129. it should cause you to question, what is the real

  130. thing that I want?

  131. Is it really fame?

  132. Is it really followers on some platform full of people

  133. who don't even know me, but only the presentation and

  134. projection that I choose to stage, the props that I

  135. put in my life? Is that really what I want?

  136. Do I really want to be noticed or do I

  137. really want to be known? Because I think a lot

  138. of times we're trying to be noticed, and the real

  139. desire is we want to be known. And the Spirit

  140. of God can show you your real desire, to say

  141. I know that you're doing all this to try to

  142. get people to notice you, But I'm the only one

  143. who really knows you.

  144. And see when people know you.

  145. From a distance and they notice things about you, but

  146. they don't know the real you, and you still feel lonely.

  147. It's so important that you ask the Spirit of God

  148. things like this, What am I really spending fourteen sixteen

  149. hours a day working for?

  150. Is it really to give my kids the life that

  151. they Yeah? Is it really that? Are you really trying

  152. to prove something to somebody who's not even paying attention.

  153. Like early in Joseph's life, he's like, you were all

  154. bowing down to me.

  155. It was awesome.

  156. Twenty years later, he's the one crumbling on his knees

  157. because he realized that the desire God gave him was

  158. not so he could be important, but so that he

  159. could have influence, not so he could have status, but

  160. so that he could be a servant. So, God, show

  161. me my desires, Show me which ones come from you,

  162. and help me. You know.

  163. I used to always pray some thirty seven for it says.

  164. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you

  165. the desires of your heart and an immature interpretation of

  166. that is God's going to give me what I want.

  167. You know, God's just peeling them off. You know what

  168. you want, what you want, what you want?

  169. You want.

  170. Now I look at it like He will give me

  171. the right desires. He will give me in part unto

  172. me the right desires.

  173. So I don't just.

  174. Come up wanting to impress people. But I start asking God,

  175. how can I be a blessing? Because I cannot simultaneously

  176. be a blessing if I'm trying to be impressive. So

  177. I want to get out of my own way and

  178. ask God to interpret my desires. God, I want you.

  179. I want your presence in my life.

  180. God. I want your pleasure, your smile. God.

  181. I want harmony and peace with you, even if it

  182. costs me sometimes position with people. God, I don't want

  183. to just be popular. I want to live a life

  184. of purpose. I want to know that this matters and

  185. means something at the end of it all. Sonny the

  186. power of interpretation for my desires. And see, you can't

  187. really have that if you don't get past rejection. So

  188. the second thing is, God, will you help me interpret

  189. my rejection? We help me look at my brothers not

  190. just through the lens of what they did to me,

  191. but through the lens of what you want to do

  192. through me. I did not expect an amen right there.

  193. But I didn't expect that level of silence.

  194. I'll tell you that right now, that that was just

  195. over the top.

  196. Praise Lord, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, halleluj all of them. Yeah,

  197. because he says two things. He says, you rejected me,

  198. but God protected me.

  199. Is see it? You know? I see it again on

  200. the screen, do you I can.

  201. Show it to you on the screen that push a button.

  202. It'll come right up on the screen. Genesis forty five

  203. to five. You sold me.

  204. God sent me to preserve life. So when I was seventeen,

  205. it felt like rejection. But now that I've grown, and

  206. now that I've experienced the grace of God, and now

  207. that I've let.

  208. Go of the resentment and I refuse to hold on

  209. to it, I see that what man calls.

  210. Rejection, sometimes God calls protection.

  211. Some of the.

  212. People who left you, God was removing them.

  213. God wanted to do some things for you that only

  214. he could do. And if he had let him, say yes,

  215. you wouldn't have been ready for what was next.

  216. I'm gonna come back to these and preach a whole

  217. series on them. Each one. I'm gonna preach a series

  218. on dream. I promise you I will do it. If

  219. you stay here long enough, I will do it. I

  220. might be ninety three years old porting over three.

  221. I'm apprecious thing that because I got to get God to.

  222. Help me interpret what my desires and rejection, and then

  223. I gotta make sure that God filters my emotions. So God,

  224. help me interpret my emotions because I know what I feel. Well,

  225. let me be honest as a man. Sometimes I don't

  226. even know what I feel. And being married has helped

  227. me so much with interpretation. I really love my wife.

  228. I jokingly call Holly the Holly Spirit.

  229. It's only half joking. She's a great interpreter. She interprets things.

  230. One time we were fighting about a bill. I think

  231. it was like three two hundred and forty three dollars

  232. and guess what I didn't have in the bank account

  233. three thousand, two hundred and forty whatever I said, dollars

  234. and I got so angry.

  235. And I don't yell.

  236. I'm not the kind of guy that goes around yelling

  237. at his wife.

  238. But I was yelling at her this day, this was

  239. years ago.

  240. This was like, you know, the early stage is a marriage,

  241. and so you know, you'll forgive me for being angry.

  242. But she she was At one point in the argument, goes,

  243. why are you so angry?

  244. I said that, sund you know what I was telling

  245. the truth. I wasn't really angry.

  246. I was afraid, and it was expressing itself as anger.

  247. But she was able to interpret the fear that was

  248. driving my anger. And when she realized that I wasn't

  249. mad at her, I was mad at the attorney who

  250. sent that bill, and mad at BB and T for not.

  251. Having enough money in my bank account to.

  252. Pay the attorney who sent the bill.

  253. And interpretation can change everything.

  254. She was able to realize, it's not me versus you

  255. in this moment, it's us versus this bill, and let's

  256. figure it out together. But if you don't pray for

  257. the power to interpret, you will just live at the

  258. level of the emotion and never know what is beneath

  259. the surface, and you will repeat the emotion on the

  260. next person who steps into the line of fire of

  261. your unfiltered experiences.

  262. Okay, I'm gonna download this podcast myself.

  263. I think, all right, so God help me interpret my emotions.

  264. So I say I'm depressed. I'm in depression right now.

  265. Well, maybe maybe you are depressed or maybe you know

  266. sometimes it's it's just Monday.

  267. You always feel this way.

  268. On Monday, just hadn't been outside yet. Yeah, but if

  269. you don't ask God, God, see, do not interpretations belong

  270. to God.

  271. That's what Joseph knew.

  272. That's what Joseph knew because on one hand, emotionally he's angry,

  273. he's crying, and he sends everybody out of.

  274. His presence, and beneath the emotion he realized the reason.

  275. Now here's a good question, are you living at the

  276. level of reaction or reason? Because if you always just react, react, react,

  277. but never ask God, what is the reason I'm reacting

  278. this way, you will fix the wrong factors. And this

  279. is where a lot of preaching gets so mean and

  280. hateful and impossible, because we're correcting behaviors but not addressing

  281. the beliefs that drive the behaviors. So you'll hear a

  282. preacher sometimes preach against addiction, but why is she drinking

  283. six classes? Or you'll hear it preached against, you know,

  284. pornography or sexual addiction, and the preacher will never address

  285. the fact.

  286. That you're reaching out for God. When you log on

  287. that site. You just don't know it's.

  288. God that you're reaching out for, so you're trying to

  289. fill it with something that leaves you more empty. But

  290. you're really reaching out for God. But so what you

  291. really want isn't sex, it's connection. So you run around

  292. for sex, but you don't get connection because it's empty

  293. because you never ask God why. And this takes reflection,

  294. and this takes sitting alone with God and even other

  295. people that you trust, and joining an e group and

  296. sharing some stuff that makes you uncomfortable. Shameless plug. Today

  297. there's temps outside join any group again. Interpret Pharaoh said,

  298. I need someone interpret my dream. The prisoner said, I

  299. need someone to interpret the dream. But really I need God

  300. to help me interpret not only the hard things I've

  301. been through.

  302. But look at Joseph. Now he's in a position of power.

  303. Not only does have the power of interpretation that God

  304. has given him, but he has the power to punish

  305. his brothers or provide for them.

  306. And what's he going to do with his advantage? That's

  307. the fourth one, God.

  308. Show me the advantages that you've given me, and show

  309. me why you.

  310. Gave them to me.

  311. Because when people receive advantages, but they think that the

  312. purpose for the advantage so that they can call attention

  313. to themselves, that's when leaders become toxic. That's when rich

  314. people become oppressive. The hard thing is sometimes recognizing the advantage.

  315. Because remember when David killed Goliath and Bible says that

  316. after he killed him, he took his sword.

  317. I always thought that was an.

  318. Illustration of how today's attack can become tomorrow's advantage.

  319. You sold me for God sent me, and.

  320. The whole time that people were pushing me in a pit,

  321. God was preparing me so that I could provide with

  322. the power that He's given me.

  323. And maybe the reason that you went through.

  324. The attack is so that you could have an advantage.

  325. Do you hear me?

  326. Just forget I'm talking. Hear this from God. He wanted

  327. to say this to you, and he's just using me

  328. to do it. Quit calling it an attack. It's an advantage.

  329. Quit calling it a weakness because it is in your

  330. weakness that.

  331. He is strong.

  332. Quit being ashamed of it, Quit trying to run from it,

  333. hide it and numb it and cover it up.

  334. The attack is the advantage. And you know what Paul said.

  335. He said, I am convinced that the sufferings of.

  336. This present time are not.

  337. Even worthy to be compared with the glory.

  338. That will be revealed.

  339. So I interpret my pain through the lens of God's

  340. purpose and my feelings through my faith. So God give

  341. me the power to interpret it.

  342. Not just to.

  343. When I get there, not just to interpret when it's

  344. all better, But God, help me to interpret when I'm

  345. in the middle. I'm in the middle. Joseph spent twenty

  346. years with a dream. They contradicted everything he was facing

  347. in his situation, and yet the most frequent line that

  348. is repeated in the account of his life is this,

  349. The Lord was with Joseph. You know, that's not something

  350. you always feel. That's not something that you can always prove.

  351. That's not something that you always have facts to back

  352. it up. But I don't need facts. I got faith.

  353. I don't need feelings. I've got faith God. I want

  354. to interpret my life as it unfolds through the lens

  355. that you love me and that you're with me.
