  1. And a good question to ask about that stuff in

  2. your life is.

  3. Where did it come from?

  4. How did I How did I.

  5. Take that out on somebody who didn't even do anything

  6. to me?

  7. See, because usually where.

  8. It comes out is not where it comes from. We

  9. don't usually get angry and lose our temper with people

  10. who were actually mad at We lose our temper with

  11. people who we know will forgive us. And now you're

  12. taking out something on the people that you love the most.

  13. But where it's.

  14. Coming out is different than where it's coming from.

  15. And if we don't get honest.

  16. About what we need from God this year, we will

  17. spend yet another year mopping up the floor without finding

  18. the pipe that was busted that was causing the leak

  19. to begin with.

  20. Come on, you know, this is the truth.

  21. A lot of times, when I'm angry, it's not really

  22. even that I'm angry, It's that I'm afraid.

  23. And rather than be.

  24. Vulnerable in my fear, I'd rather express my fear through

  25. anger as a protective mechanism.

  26. And so I'm trying to work on my temper.

  27. But really what I need to work on is my trust,

  28. because if I trusted God more, I wouldn't be afraid,

  29. And if I wasn't afraid, I wouldn't find an expression

  30. of anger.

  31. Where's this coming from.

  32. It's great to make a list at the beginning of

  33. the year of the things that you'd like to do differently,

  34. but it's better to find out where it's coming from, so.

  35. You don't just recreate a different issue that was caused

  36. by the same disease because you only learn to take

  37. ibuprofen for the symptoms, but you never underwent the surgery

  38. to understand some of the beliefs beneath the behavior. Even

  39. in relating to people, I have to remember that even

  40. the way they're treating me might not be a reflection

  41. of how they feel about me. It might be a

  42. reflection of how they feel about themselves. It might be

  43. a reflection of what they're dealing with in their own

  44. time alone in the way that they push me away.

  45. And that's why you really.

  46. Got to be careful not to let rejection take root

  47. in your heart, because sometimes people are pushing you away

  48. not because of anything that is undesirable about you, but

  49. it's actually that the person finds themselves so undesirable that

  50. they don't know how to let anyone get close, because

  51. to let any body close carries a risk with it

  52. that they will be seen and found out to be

  53. less than which they already believed that they are. And

  54. you are spending all of your time trying to love

  55. someone who is unable to receive your love, and.

  56. The rejection is not proof of your defection.

  57. It is proof of something in their own life. But

  58. where it shows up is not necessarily where it starts.

  59. And Jesus knew that.

  60. He knew that, which is why he didn't go back

  61. and forth.

  62. With these pharisees.

  63. He knew better. He knew where he came from, and

  64. he knew that every plant that my father does not plant.

  65. Will be plucked up. So he knew that.

  66. Where it comes from determines how it comes out. Can

  67. I preach a little bit today?

  68. I know you've got a.

  69. Lot on your minds, and you've got to pack lone

  70. just for the kids and get back to school, and

  71. I know all of that, but I want to stop

  72. and ask the question today, where did it come from?

  73. And in my life, so often I have been dealing

  74. with things at the level of visibility, and because I'm

  75. dealing with things at the level of Jesus takes us inside.

  76. He says, when food goes into the stomach and comes

  77. out the body, it is like a thought that goes

  78. in the heart and comes out the mouth. He's making

  79. an analogy, and there's not a lot of scientific, you know, explanation.

  80. It's not a biology lesson necessarily. He's not going into

  81. the small intestine and the secretion of the fluids of

  82. the kidney and the pancreas.

  83. Did that make any sense?

  84. But he's giving us something to understand about how we

  85. metabolize our thoughts and our lives and even our disappointments

  86. and our failures.

  87. And I think it's so valuable because a lot of

  88. us started this year.

  89. Counting calories, counting carbs.

  90. Some of y'all are on Paleo and keto and counting macros.

  91. I still don't know what macros are, but I heard

  92. a lot of people have been counting them.

  93. And I wish you the best with that, because we

  94. all got to count something. We've all got to count something,

  95. or we're gonna keep counting our waistline as it expands

  96. like the prayer of Jabez and.

  97. God enlarges your territory.

  98. I gotta count something at some point, like when I

  99. first married Holly, she started the demon of fried Rice

  100. came into our house, like how everything's a demon today?

  101. The demon of Dorito's got in our house. And when

  102. I got to size thirty eight, and.

  103. It was bulgin.

  104. I mean, I had a graded belt stretched across those

  105. size thirty eights and I started size thirty eighteen months later,

  106. I said, I gotta start counting carbs. I gotta start

  107. eating bacon. I gotta get a healthy alternative. I gotta

  108. get the Atkins diet. I gotta have a low carb lifestyle.

  109. And you know what the Lord told me last year,

  110. I was letting all this toxic talk and toxic thoughts

  111. just get all in my spirit, and it got me

  112. to a real dark place. And God said, if you

  113. would count your complaints like you count your carbs. And

  114. it's funny because the majority of things we think we

  115. need to do better this year have to do with

  116. putting stuff in our mouth.

  117. What we put in our mouth, and.

  118. Maybe you do need to stop putting some stuff in

  119. your mouth, but maybe the priority, flip the flow is

  120. what you put in your heart, because where it comes

  121. from determines where it comes out. Now, I'm not telling

  122. you what movies to watch or what music.

  123. To listen to this year.

  124. I'm not that kind of preacher. In fact, I.

  125. Think sometimes some of the stuff that we put in

  126. our heart that hurts.

  127. Us the most has nothing to do with bad words.

  128. Man, I've heard I've heard Pagans speak a word of

  129. God with bad language in it, and Christians curse without saying.

  130. A single four letter word.

  131. I've heard Christians say some of the most hateful, judgmental,

  132. fear inducing condemnation you've ever heard in your life.

  133. And listen, this year, I'm guarding my heart. And I

  134. don't mean that.

  135. I'm not watching Netflix, and I don't mean That's not

  136. what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about reading the

  137. Old Testament before next Sunday. I'm talking about really paying

  138. attention to the types of a pattern of thought that

  139. you allow.

  140. Your heart to digest, because your spirit has a digestive system.

  141. Jesus said this out of your heart. That's causing you

  142. the real problem. You know, Pharisees are like offended.

  143. Jesus because you said that they don't have to wash

  144. their hands before they eat.

  145. Well, they don't. Only Aaron and the priest had to

  146. wash their hands.

  147. But they put traditions on top of truth and made

  148. it something that was.

  149. Never supposed to be.

  150. You can wash your hands all you want. You can

  151. break out your hands sanitizer every time pastor says.

  152. Touch your neighbor and squirt it on.

  153. Don't you wish they made heart sanitizer for some of

  154. these people that we have to deal with, for some

  155. of these these thoughts, some of these memories, some of

  156. these habits. Wouldn't that be wouldn't that be marketable? I

  157. know how to wash my hands. I know how to

  158. make people think I'm doing okay. I know how to

  159. smile and say I'm fine. I know how to crop

  160. the picture twelve times.

  161. And post hashtag. Woke up like this.

  162. I know how to I know how to wash my hands.

  163. How do I wash my heart? And this is where

  164. Jesus is greater than Moses. Moses went up the mountain

  165. and came down with the law. Jesus went up on

  166. a mountain and taught a sermon and said, I didn't

  167. come to abolish the law, but I came to fulfill it.

  168. I didn't come to do away with it. I didn't

  169. come so that the law would not exist. I came

  170. so that I could flip it and watch this, that

  171. the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met

  172. in us.

  173. Not bias.

  174. For you to start this year thinking that there's a

  175. future version of you that God will like more, or

  176. a future version of you that can be happier, is

  177. to negate the very nature of the grace you came

  178. to celebrate. Because Jesus came not to require righteousness, but

  179. to enable righteousness.

  180. That's what the cross. You understand that when.

  181. Jesus died on the cross, the angels did not get

  182. nervous in heaven. The angels didn't wring their hands in heaven.

  183. The angels didn't start devising a backup plan in heaven,

  184. because the angels in heaven knew where Jesus came from.

  185. And when you know where it comes from, you know

  186. how it comes out. And even when they beat him,

  187. and even when they mocked him, my voice is tired.

  188. I preached three times I could use some help. Even

  189. when they buried him in the grave of Joseph a pharmatheon,

  190. Heaven didn't get nervous because we know where he came from,

  191. so we know how this comes out.

  192. Even before I go through the trial this year.

  193. I know how this comes out, because He who began

  194. a good work in me will be faithful to you.

  195. Completed shout for nineteen seconds. If you've got faith.

  196. That's why Zosha was said, shout.

  197. Before the first brick hits the ground.

  198. I know where the command came from, so I know

  199. how the battle turns out.

  200. It's the spirit of faith to let you know that

  201. if it comes from God, if he called you, if

  202. he formed you, if your help comes from Him, you

  203. can predict in advance how this comes out.

  204. I already know the outcome. Even when I.

  205. Was reading the scripture, God said flip it because it

  206. said evil thoughts come from your heart.

  207. And this a hard thing to sort through your heart,

  208. to know.

  209. What thoughts came from God, and what thoughts came from Ego,

  210. and what thoughts came from Grandpa, and what thoughts came

  211. from Fox News and what thoughts came from Bloomberg and

  212. what thoughts came from Twitter? And what thoughts came from

  213. what thoughts came from What's the other one?

  214. CNN?

  215. And Facebook and Uncle Ray and Uncle Tim and Aunt

  216. Cindy and Aunt Martha it's hard to know. It's hard

  217. to know, it's hard to know what's in your heart.

  218. That's why we need the Holy Spirit this year. That's

  219. why we need Jesus. I know it sounds simple, and

  220. maybe this teaching is too elementary and some people are

  221. a little bored with it.

  222. But I need help with my heart this year.

  223. I need help because.

  224. Some stuff in there is from God and some stuff

  225. is not, and I need help sorting it out. Because

  226. I sent Pastor Craig some Christmas gifts this year. Always

  227. send him clothes for Christmas in case he wants to

  228. wear him to preach in the New Year. And he's

  229. like one of my best friends, so it's not weird

  230. when I send him clothes.

  231. He gets it.

  232. He doesn't take it as an insult, like I think

  233. he doesn't know how to dress, but he likes what

  234. I send him. I keep it a little on the

  235. youthful side for him. He's fifty one, but.

  236. I feel like I don't want to push him too far.

  237. I'm not going to have him up there dripping in

  238. off white looking ridiculous from head to toe, and so

  239. I don't know just where to push him.

  240. So he trusts me he trusts me. That's the point

  241. I want to make.

  242. He trusts me, and this year I send him a

  243. nice little, nice little box of clothes.

  244. His two shirts in the box.

  245. It was one of them was like a.

  246. A zip, kind of like a zip sweater thing came

  247. right there. And then a shirt shirt Birdberry shirt to

  248. put under the sweater. And I told him in the note,

  249. Merry Christmas, here's your clothes. You can wear it three

  250. different ways, the.

  251. Sweater without the shirt, the shirt without the sweater, the

  252. shirt under the sweater.

  253. You're welcome, Merry Christmas. I am an efficient stylist.

  254. I'm thinking about having a side hustle dressing preachers.

  255. But that's not the point.

  256. The point is he sent me a picture of him

  257. wearing the clothes, and he put on the clothes to

  258. put the first of all, the sweater on, look good.

  259. Then he put the shirt on, look good. Then there

  260. was a third picture and he was wearing something I

  261. never saw before in my life.

  262. It was baggy bright red. Am I telling the truth?

  263. Because I sent it to Jess, who works in my

  264. office now for almost ten years. I said, we didn't

  265. send him this, did we?

  266. She said, no, sir, I never saw that before in my.

  267. Life, and I texted him back to good news. First,

  268. all the stuff I sent you is dope good news.

  269. The bad news is that third thing you put on.

  270. I don't know where that came from.

  271. But he trusted me so much that he said, if

  272. it came from Ferdick, this is real faith, y'all, he said,

  273. even though I think it looks ridiculous if it came

  274. from Ferdick. And I said, but it didn't come from Ferdick,

  275. not this one. I am not taking credit for this

  276. fashioned decision. This did not come from Ferdie.

  277. You need to find out what happened. And he found out.

  278. What happened because one of his staff members, who knew

  279. how much he trusted me, saw the box that came

  280. from me and decided to go in the box, open

  281. the box. Can y'all believe this? Find the ugliest sweater

  282. they could find. Stick it in the box under the

  283. stuff that I picked. And they knew he trusted me

  284. so much that he would wear whatever he thought came

  285. from me.

  286. But the devil is a liar.

  287. I texted him and I said, you need to take

  288. that out, the box that was not from me. I

  289. hear the spirit of God, saying, you've been wearing some

  290. stuff in twenty eighteen that I.

  291. Did not put in your box. It's time for you

  292. to go.

  293. Through the box and everything that does not look like

  294. joy and the garment of praise.

  295. Take it off. Everything that does not.

  296. Look like the Armor of God, take it off. Everything

  297. that doesn't look like victory, take it off. I'm coming

  298. into a new year driven. I'm not coming into a

  299. new year wearing racks.

  300. His righteousness is my garment, and his victory is not guaranteed.

  301. Salamize her.

  302. I fear the Holy col.
