  1. Because in order for God to bring something new, he

  2. has to disrupt something normal. When I was saying position

  3. for a miracle, I can almost feel you shouting through

  4. the screen. You're like, yes, Lord, pay it off, take

  5. it away, do it God. But this passage is going

  6. to show us a different way to look at it,

  7. that as we're coming into one new thing, we're leaving another.

  8. And I want to read the scripture to you.

  9. Starting in verse one, it says, early in the morning,

  10. Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shitam. That's

  11. a long eye. Stop playing pastor, appreciate the worth. Let

  12. me start over. Y'all know I love you. Right early

  13. in the morning, Joshua and all the Israelites set out

  14. from Shitam. So they're going somewhere. Somebody say, I'm going somewhere.

  15. I'm going somewhere.

  16. Say it in the chat, say it in the comments.

  17. I'm going somewhere. I'm going somewhere. I'm going somewhere. I'm

  18. going somewhere. God's hand is on me. I'm going somewhere.

  19. God is taking me somewhere. God has not left me.

  20. God will not forsake me, God will not abandon me.

  21. God will let me see the kay.

  22. He will never leave the righteous forsaken or see begging

  23. for Brad. God will feed me and lead me and

  24. guide me and protect me. He said he would, He

  25. promised he would. That's what he does.

  26. Okay.

  27. This God is our God, forever and ever. He will

  28. be our guide, even to the end. Holly was preaching

  29. the other day on Facebook. She said, we want God

  30. to be our ride, but God said he would be

  31. our guide. And I was like, girl, that doctor susse

  32. annoying looks sexy on you. That is so good because

  33. we want God to be like an uber, like Hey,

  34. I'm gonna get back here, and I don't want to

  35. talk to you. I just want you to take me here. Now,

  36. here's where I want to go. I want, I want

  37. a new job. I want I want my wife to

  38. start respecting me. I want my kids to get straight

  39. a's A plus. Why not just go for it? God,

  40. get him into Harvard, Yale, Harvard, Harvard undergrad and Yale

  41. for the doctor God, And we want God to just

  42. get us there. But we're going to see something today

  43. about when God says stop okay, And one thing we

  44. need to stop doing is looking at God. As a

  45. means and starts seeing that He is the end his presence,

  46. to know him, to be strengthened by him. And even

  47. though I'm going somewhere, it's not so important. Just about

  48. where God takes me is what he shows me along

  49. the way. And this is a pivotal moment in my

  50. life and your life, because we're not really sure about

  51. the destination or how long, you know, how long is

  52. the coronavirus going to dominate our headlines? And then even

  53. after that, how long is it going to terrorize our economy?

  54. And we don't know.

  55. And it's interesting because the Bible says, let me just

  56. read the scripture.

  57. I'm so excited. Can you tell? The Lord has really

  58. been speaking to me?

  59. And God's word never stops, it never returns void. So

  60. it's almost like the more trouble we get in, the

  61. more of God's presence and more of God's grace and

  62. more of God's work, he just makes it available to us.

  63. And so the Lord has really been overflowing in my heart.

  64. It said early in the morning, Joshua and all the Israelites,

  65. somebody say, all the Israelites, put a couple extra a's

  66. in the chat. Just say all the Israelites. I'm gonna

  67. check on y'all and make sure y'all are doing it.

  68. Say all the Israelites. Come on. It doesn't cost you

  69. nothing for an extra vowel on YouTube. Just say, oh,

  70. this is real life. Oh man, this is good because

  71. the first thing that God said stopped to me. He said,

  72. stop acting like you're the only one, like I'm the

  73. only one, like I'm the only one scared right now,

  74. like I'm the only one struggling right now, or even

  75. for America, like we've got a global fam We call

  76. it etham. It used to stand for extended. Now it

  77. stands for everywhere because we're all etham. Even our local

  78. congregation is having to experience God's word kind of from

  79. a distance. But one thing that people keep saying that

  80. bothers me is like, well, we're all in the same boat.

  81. No we're not. We're not all in the same boat

  82. this storm that we're going through.

  83. If I can use that analogy, it affects all of

  84. us in different ways. So while one man in my

  85. church right now might be.

  86. Kind of thinking, well, this is good for me.

  87. I get a break, you know, I get a break

  88. from the stress of life, and maybe the shutdown of

  89. commerce and industry to that man represents a break or

  90. sense of relief, or a welcome interruption of the rhythm.

  91. About the time he's feeling relief, somebody else in my

  92. church just laid off one hundred and fifty employees. And

  93. that happened this week. This is not theoretical hypothetical. As

  94. a pastor, I get to see how something affects all

  95. the people, okay, And I think it's really arrogant when

  96. we put ourselves at the center of a struggle. And

  97. another thing that it does is it increases our anxiety

  98. because we start thinking we are the first ones to

  99. ever go through anything. And then if you get that

  100. self centered, you get short sighted. So then you start

  101. thinking like, this is the only thing that I've ever

  102. been through like this.

  103. I heard someone say that the other day.

  104. They said, uh, We've never been through anything like this before. Hello,

  105. nineteen eighteen the influenza that killed Look somebody from nineteen

  106. eighteen is watching us from heaven right now go through

  107. this and not understanding our frame of reference can be

  108. detrimental to our revelation of God's power because when we

  109. think we're the first ones who ever went through anything before. Long,

  110. we start thinking that this is unlike anything else that

  111. we've ever been through. And so I want to remind

  112. you today that you are not the only one. I'm

  113. not the only one scared. I'm not the only one uncertain.

  114. I'm not the only one with questions. And we are

  115. going through this together.

  116. Now. Here's what's interesting.

  117. We are all always going through something, but right now

  118. it kind of feels like we're going through the same thing.

  119. And yet although we're going through the same storm, we're

  120. not all in the same boat. Some people are going

  121. through this current crisis in like a I don't know,

  122. like a battleship, barely feeling it. It's like, oh man,

  123. you know, you can almost see them on Instagram all

  124. the time.

  125. They make you sick. They're like, I'm all out.

  126. Of Cheetos, got to move to Doritos now, quarantine problems,

  127. you know what I'm saying? Like WHOA Somebody else is

  128. in a kayak going through the storm and they're like,

  129. I'm thinking about feeding my family on minimum wage and

  130. what this opportunity. When I said we're positioned for a miracle,

  131. I think that God is positioning us for the miracle

  132. of empathy to really be able to stop for a

  133. moment disagreeing about petty stuff, stupid stuff, stop arguing for

  134. a minute about stupid stuff, because they all had to

  135. go through together. Now, this is the passage to the

  136. promised land, right, And we're not going into like a

  137. geographical land here. We're don't about the promises of God

  138. everything that he's promised you, peace, provision, protection, all the

  139. stuff we want.

  140. Right, But they all had to go through together.

  141. That really touched me, man, It touched me because I

  142. have three kids.

  143. This is two million people.

  144. I can't even get my three kids to get in

  145. the car to get across South Charlotte to get to

  146. school before seven thirty am. Together, and now Joshua has

  147. to lead. It says in the scripture, all all the people. Well,

  148. this is a miracle. I can't even get my kids

  149. to agree on what show to watch, and Joshua has

  150. to get all the people across This is a miracle.

  151. And you know, Graham asked me the other day, this

  152. is funny. Actually this was several months ago. He came

  153. up to me.

  154. He was in a Bible class.

  155. He goes to this Christian school and he was asking

  156. me a theological question.

  157. He goes, Dad, why.

  158. Do you think God stopped doing so many miracles like

  159. he did in Bible times?

  160. And I don't know. Why do you think? He said?

  161. Maybe because he was younger back then and had more energy.

  162. I love it. This is the Old.

  163. Testament, right, And we're all like, oh, God, I know

  164. this story. Joshua three got part of the waters and

  165. all the people went through. Why doesn't God still do

  166. miracles like that? And yet you are holding a phone

  167. in your hand right now, or you are watching on

  168. Roku or Apple TV or some new fangled technological device.

  169. Thank you, Steve Jobs for making this moment possible. But

  170. yet we will sit in a miracle and not recognize

  171. it as a miracle, because see, we have a very

  172. difficult time appreciating a miracle when we're in it.

  173. We have a very.

  174. Difficult time appreciating a good moment when we're in it.

  175. So then we start looking back at old times.

  176. Oh, those are the good old days, you know, flashback

  177. Friday and throw back Thursday, and it's like we want

  178. to be anywhere but here, And then so God gives

  179. us a moment where we have to stop and be

  180. here because March Madness was canceled. The whole NBA just stopped.

  181. That's when I knew this was bad. When the NBA stopped,

  182. I was like, Oh God, this is real. Somebody put

  183. in the comments it just got real and put it

  184. like that too. It just got real. It just got real.

  185. And there's a moment in this scripture. I was reading

  186. it just word for word. It's amazing how the little

  187. things in scripture come alive when you stop and think about,

  188. you know, just go through them. And since this message

  189. is called when God says stop, I want to stop

  190. on something as significant. Early in the morning, Joshua and

  191. all the Israelites there you go. All the Israelites set

  192. out from Shidam and went to the Jordan, which is

  193. the place where God always reveals identity. You remember, that's

  194. where Jesus went to be baptized the Jordan. This is

  195. my son, That's where God always shows you who you

  196. really are by what he brings you through.

  197. That spoke to me.

  198. When we're going through something, the goal isn't just to

  199. get through it. The goal is for God to show

  200. us something in it that will make us better.

  201. On the other side. I'm going to be better on

  202. the other side. I'm going to be better on the

  203. other side. It may look different. It's not going to

  204. be normal. It's not.

  205. We're not going back to normal, but but I'm going

  206. to be better on the other side of this. You

  207. got to go in with that assurance or else you're

  208. gonna stand like the Israelites stayed for forty years on

  209. the wrong.

  210. Side of the Jordan. And I'm gonna tell you something else.

  211. God didn't stop them from going into the Promised Land.

  212. God didn't stop them.

  213. I used to preach that they got stuck in the wilderness,

  214. and how some of us get stuck in temptation, or

  215. we get stuck in unbelief, or we get stuck in fear.

  216. And one day I was preaching that and the Lord

  217. slowed me down and said, they didn't get stuck, they stopped.

  218. There was nothing keeping them in. There's nothing keeping us

  219. right now from being grateful.

  220. Well, well, you hadn't seen my bank acount.

  221. I'm going to talk aboutr bank account and talk about your

  222. belief system. I'm talking about you believe that God is

  223. good at the bottom, and you have this hope as

  224. an anchor for your soul. That's a rock, that's a foundation.

  225. It can't be shaken by a storm. The winds can come,

  226. the streams can rise, beat against the house, and it

  227. didn't fall. It only showed the foundation for what it was.

  228. And so when they crossed the Jordan, they were doing

  229. what the previous generation could have done.

  230. But they stopped. They stopped, they stopped.

  231. Sometimes we tell ourselves that we're stuck, when the fact

  232. is we just stopped. Oh man, I've just been depressed lately,

  233. Like just like everywhere I look is bad news. Stop

  234. watching it. I feel an anointing on one word because

  235. I praise so many sermons on go go. You know,

  236. God told Abraham go to the land I will show you.

  237. He said, go and make disciples. That was the great commission, Go, go, go.

  238. But what about when God says stop stop?

  239. I believe God is issuing, Like like I yelled at

  240. the top of my lungs the other day, stop stop scrolling.

  241. Oh I wonder why I don't have any peace. God

  242. give me peace. But you got a leaky bucket that

  243. you're asking God to put peace in because you won't

  244. turn off your phone. It needs to charge. It's getting hot.

  245. It's burning your hand, so you're gonna feed yourself fear

  246. and then pray for more faith.

  247. God said, stop stop, yeah, will the need to be informed.

  248. Hey, nobody knows right now, nobody knows.

  249. I mean you know everything. Everybody knows right now.

  250. You know enough, you know enough, you know enough, and

  251. I'm wanna tell you something else.

  252. You know enough about.

  253. God to get you through this valley we talk about

  254. going through.

  255. I know I'm gonna get through this.

  256. And I don't say that in a callous way or

  257. a cliche way or a hash kind of faid. I'm saying,

  258. the Lord is my shepherd. I know that he's my guide.

  259. I know that I shall not want. Hang on a second,

  260. there's a weird part of this passage. It says, the

  261. Lord's my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me

  262. lie down in green pastors. It's like you're saying, God

  263. will guide you, guide you, and sometimes in order to

  264. get you to green pastors, he has to give you

  265. a red light.

  266. He makes me.

  267. Lie down, he makes me lie down, And it's right

  268. there in Joshua three.

  269. He's right there.

  270. How God is leading his people, He's led them forty

  271. years in a wilderness. They've been through things before, but

  272. now they're standing at something new, just like we are.

  273. Some of you. God has seen you through divorce. He's

  274. seen you through a miscarriage. He's seen you through a

  275. suicidal impulse that you almost took your own life and

  276. then you didn't. He saw you through the worst decision

  277. of your life. He saw you through financial mistakes. He

  278. saw you through all of that. And now you are

  279. standing at this and you're like, I've never been here before.

  280. And it's like, but in that moment, what you know

  281. has to take over what you feel. And that's what

  282. I want to illustrate in the text. When God says

  283. stop living by feelings and start living by faith, stop

  284. living by sight, I feel the Holy Spirit when God

  285. says stop is so important that we listen to the

  286. Holy Spirit. When he says stop, stop, stop playing out

  287. all the worst what if scenarios in your brain.

  288. You've gone way past planning. I'm just gutting. A plan

  289. is so what you call it a plan?

  290. When you're projecting every possible scenario trying to predict, you

  291. think you're miss Cleo or something like that.

  292. You ain't a prophet and give.

  293. Yourself an ulcir, I prophesy peptobismal in your future every

  294. night before you go to bed if you don't stop it.

  295. And I love what God gave them, and how the

  296. presence of God sometimes will tell you to stop. Give

  297. me verse one again, all this in verse one, and

  298. don't y'all get scared.

  299. But I got like seventeen verses.

  300. Okay, but I will stop at some point so the

  301. next service can run. But it says early in the

  302. morning Josh, when all the Israelites set out from Shitham

  303. and went to the Jordan, the place of identity, and

  304. the instruction was camp before crossing over.

  305. And that cool.

  306. How God was bringing them into something new, and before

  307. he could bring them into this new space, he told

  308. him to stop and camp. And what he tells them

  309. to do next. I want to give you as a

  310. prophetic word for what God might be saying to you

  311. for this season of your life. We're all going through

  312. this at the same time, but we're not all going

  313. through the same thing. Some people are making real decisions

  314. right now, Like our church. All week, it was just

  315. decision after decision after decision.

  316. And the problem is, you know, we're all trying to. Okay,

  317. I'll go ahead and give you the next point. You're ready.

  318. Stop wasting today's strength fighting tomorrow's battles.

  319. Stop stop.

  320. Stop trying to stop trying to defend yourself against doomsday

  321. that may or may not happen.

  322. Make decisions, Make decisions.

  323. God will give you the wisdom for the decisions you

  324. need to make right now.

  325. I believe that he will. I'm believing that for every

  326. healthcare worker. I'm believing that for our leaders.

  327. I'm believing that God is going to bring our country

  328. together in a way right now.

  329. That we're going to figure out some stuff.

  330. That we needed to fix for a long time, and

  331. your nation and God that's gonna bring us together.

  332. We're positioned for a miracle, but we gotta go through together. Hey,

  333. thank you for watching.
