  1. Obedience that creates freedom, freedom from what, freedom from needing

  2. to know the outcome before you take the step. So

  3. if he doesn't get up, the chain stay on. And

  4. if you don't do what God has told you to

  5. do right now, God can't do what he's going to

  6. do that you don't know he's going to do. God

  7. already intended to take his chains off. But if he

  8. waits till the chains fall off to get up, he's

  9. never gonna get up because the chains aren't gonna fall off.

  10. When I get my financial situation in order, I'll tell

  11. you I'm gonna put God first, because I've heard about that,

  12. and raising the Lord and putting him first with the

  13. first fruits of my womb and.

  14. All the and all the things that the Bible says,

  15. I'm gonna do it. No, you're not not if you

  16. won't do it with a little. Because he who is

  17. faithful in a little so is that first step is

  18. getting up, Get up, and the chains will fall off.

  19. Get up, and you say, God, take the chains.

  20. Off, and I'll get up.

  21. No, get up, and the change will fall up. And

  22. I love this part because there is no indication in

  23. this text that Peter had faith to be free from prison.

  24. All he's doing is going through the motions, and sometimes

  25. that's all you can do. Sometimes all you can do

  26. is come to church and fake, I mean, faith it

  27. until you feel it. Now, most of us wouldn't have

  28. gotten a miracle if we were in Act chapter twelve,

  29. if we were in here at a grip of the

  30. first prison, we'd stay right there because we wouldn't. We

  31. wouldn't follow instructions until we knew details. We'd be like,

  32. get up, Why who are you? Let me see some identification? No, no, no,

  33. is this God? Is this? No? No? He Just get up.

  34. Get up, And when you're in a place of rest,

  35. you're able to respond without overthinking it. Just get up.

  36. Some of y'all think too hard when we're worshiping in here.

  37. You know you're thinking too hard.

  38. You're thinking too hard. I'm gonna see you a victim.

  39. I can't sing that.

  40. I don't know if I really am.

  41. You need to start singing it so you can start

  42. seeing it. Because faith is the substance of things hoped

  43. for and the evidence of things not seeing.

  44. So help me show him God.

  45. The old Peter, Remember the old Peter who argued all

  46. the time the old Peter would have been like, get

  47. up for what?

  48. God?

  49. For what? I don't understand. I was getting some sleep

  50. while I interrupt my sleep. I'm trying to get in

  51. a good and I sleep. I got a big day tomorrow.

  52. It's a really important day.

  53. I need to be sharp so I can offend myself.

  54. But he just did it in this place. In fact,

  55. that's exactly what the Bible said. It's a quick get up.

  56. And the chains fell off, ver safe. And then the

  57. angel said to him, put on your clothes and sandals.

  58. He has still not told him his destination. But faith

  59. is getting dressed even when you don't know where you're going.

  60. And Peter did so he got dressed with no destination.

  61. Is this God, I hope? So no details, just obedience,

  62. not a Peter, get up, get dressed. You know how

  63. God knocks just little things, and you know it's him,

  64. You know it's him, Just little things. The littlest thing

  65. can happen. Put on your cloak and sandals. To me,

  66. this all, this whole, this whole thing seems like very small.

  67. Like I don't mind getting out of here in my underwear.

  68. If we're getting out of prison, why am I getting

  69. dressed for it. But but that's that's us trying to

  70. make sense of things. This is a different kind of freedom.

  71. This is not a freedom that can be achieved in

  72. your mind. The Angel said to him, put on your

  73. clothes and sandals, and Peter did so. Just that simple,

  74. wrap your cloak around you, and follow me, the angel

  75. told him. And notice what Peter didn't ask, where are

  76. we going? Just follow I'm just following Grace, I'm just

  77. following Mercy. I'm just I'm just following cooperating with God.

  78. I'm getting my heart in harmony with what he's doing

  79. in this season. I'm coming into agreement and acceptance of

  80. the situation that he's placed me in. Step by step.

  81. You know the thing on your GPS where you know

  82. if you put it on, at least on mind. I

  83. use Google Maps looking for a sponsorship, where it just

  84. tells you the next turn. But then if you click

  85. on and you can see details, and that'll tell you

  86. every turn. And for somebody like me that has no

  87. sense of direction, I never put on the details because

  88. it'll get me lost. I can't think seven turns ahead.

  89. I just need to know the next one. We all,

  90. like sheep, have gone astray, And so all Peter has

  91. to do is the next thing. That's all you have

  92. to do, the next thing. Anything else is too much

  93. right now. You don't have to be Peter to be

  94. in prison. You don't have to be some important apostle

  95. to be in prison. Addiction is a prison, Depression is

  96. a prison. You don't have to be Peter to be

  97. in prison. Mindsets are a prison, Rumination is a prison.

  98. Trauma can be a prison. Prison. Isolation can be a prison.

  99. Never really engaging in real relationships can be a prison.

  100. Hiding and concealing it can be a prison. But if

  101. you've been in prison lately, all you need to do

  102. is the next thing. You can't predict the path of

  103. your freedom. You can only respond to the light that

  104. you have that's shone in yourself. And so when Peter

  105. got up, this is a very profound moment in Peter's life,

  106. and he doesn't know it yet. For all he knows,

  107. he's just dreaming. He doesn't even know yet. Read it

  108. in the passage with Me. Peter followed him out of

  109. the prison, but he had no idea that what the

  110. angel was doing was really happening. He thought he was

  111. seeing a vision. You know, most of the time you

  112. don't even know that it was God until after the fact.

  113. While you're in it, it feels so confusing and so

  114. uns and you're like, I don't even know, I don't

  115. know what this is right now. It is only after

  116. you have been through it that Romans eight twenty eight

  117. makes sense and then you can say all things work

  118. together for the good. But it's hard to say that

  119. in the process of it. And Peter's just going through

  120. the motions. He's just worshiping, he's just moving, he's just obeying,

  121. he's just doing the next practical thing. And then he

  122. then he kind of has this moment when he passes

  123. verse ten, the first and second Guards and came to

  124. the iron gate leading to the city. And WA's what

  125. happened to the gate? It opened for them by itself.

  126. You know, God will do for you what you can't

  127. do for you. Now your uncle clap for this one,

  128. but he won't do for you what you can do

  129. for you. So God opened the gate for Peter. But

  130. watch what Peter did when they had walked through it.

  131. They walked through it. Angel didn't carry Peter through the

  132. gate piggyback style, Peter's too big to be carried through

  133. the gate.

  134. Now you got to go through it.

  135. Do me a real truth favor. Look at your neighbor

  136. with eye contacts, say you got to go through it.

  137. You know how many people that are listening to me

  138. preach right now are standing and knocking at a door

  139. that's already opened. The gate was open. You can stand

  140. there and knock all you want, but you got to

  141. go through it. And every second we spend not going

  142. through it, every second that we spend wishing that it

  143. wasn't there, every second we spend waiting for something miraculous

  144. to happen, It already happened. It already happened. The worst

  145. thing that could happen already happened on the cross. It

  146. was already transformed into resurrection power in your spirit. So

  147. it already happened, is already open, But you've got to

  148. go through it. And when you go through it, that

  149. is the proof that you trust God even while you're

  150. in it, that you stay in the fire, that you

  151. stay in the furnace, and you still survive. And he

  152. walked through the gate. Now the power of God did

  153. not prevent the attack, but it protected Peter within it,

  154. and it enabled him to go through it. God is

  155. going to get me through this. I don't know how,

  156. I don't know when, but God is going to get

  157. me through this. The gate is open, the way is made.

  158. Faith has already provided for me the grace that I need.

  159. And when they hid walked the length tenby of one street,

  160. suddenly the angel left him and now he's got to

  161. figure out where to go, and suddenly wakes up and

  162. he comes to this moment that I believe we come

  163. to sometimes when when God knocks on our situation, or

  164. when the when the enemy knocks to come get us,

  165. but God won't let him. He comes to this realization.

  166. He's like, I gotta go, and I wonder what door

  167. he's gonna knock on. See, it's really important that you

  168. know where to knock when you're in trouble. That's how

  169. some of us got our hearts broken and our minds

  170. messed up because we knocked on the wrong door. And

  171. you know what was really weird about it. Sometimes we

  172. run back to the same door that disappointed us last time,

  173. knocking on it as if there's anything inside that's crazy.

  174. And Christians will do this, they'll pray the devil away

  175. and knock when and he knocks on the door, leave

  176. it wide open for him to come in, and put

  177. out a fruit basket and welcome him as a guest.

  178. With the monogram towel.

  179. Just leaving yourself wide open to everything. But when you

  180. run around knocking on the wrong doors and the wrong

  181. people and the wrong patterns, and you keep going back

  182. to that place, it's very important that you know where

  183. to knock. And thank God that Peter knew where to knock.

  184. See, he knew.

  185. About John Mark's mother's house. Apparently this was the same

  186. place that they had been praying for James, and he

  187. knew that if he would knock on that door there

  188. would be some praying people. I want to say something

  189. to everybody who came to church today. Okay, I don't

  190. know what your life is like right now, and I

  191. don't know what you need God to do, but you

  192. knocked on the right door today, because everything you need

  193. is in the presence of God. Come on, look at

  194. somebody say, you knocked on the right door today. God

  195. has God what you need. The fridge is full, the

  196. bet is me. There's a prayer meeting going on, there's

  197. a fire in the kitchen. So watch this. I gotta

  198. show you something. Somebody say, knock, knock. Peter said, Now

  199. I know without a doubt it was the Lord coming

  200. into my prison cell. It wasn't Herod's intention that brought

  201. me here. It was God's purpose. The Lord sent his

  202. angel and rescued me from Herod's clutches and from everything

  203. the Jewish people were anticipating. You know what he was saying.

  204. Herod came knocking, He came to get me. It came

  205. to kill me, but it couldn't have me. That's how

  206. I know God was with me because it came for me,

  207. but it couldn't kill me. It came for me, but

  208. it couldn't take me out. It came for me, but

  209. it couldn't have me. And now I know that God

  210. was with me. And when this had dawned on in

  211. verse twelve, he went to the house of Mary, the

  212. mother of John also called Mark, where many people had

  213. gathered and were praying. Ended amazing that they were still praying,

  214. still asking, still seeking, still knocking, because like, really, I

  215. don't know if I would have if I prayed for

  216. James and they cut his head off. I don't know

  217. if I would have faith to pray for Peter. I

  218. think a lot of us pray for things, or hope

  219. for things, or secretly wish for things that we really

  220. don't believe could even happen. We sing things that we

  221. no longer believe really happened. We sing a freedom, but

  222. we learned a long time ago to stop dreaming about it.

  223. And Peter is out of prison, but they don't know

  224. it yet, but they're still praying. Ah. That takes faith, man,

  225. It takes faith to pray for Peter when you just

  226. lost James. It takes faith to believe in this situation,

  227. because you know, when you've seen him move the mountain

  228. and you believe he can do it again, it's one thing.

  229. But when that.

  230. Mountain is still there and you got to pray about

  231. that one, this is a difficult moment.

  232. And yet it.

  233. Didn't stop their prayer, It didn't stop their persistence.

  234. It didn't stop.

  235. So Peter shows up and they're still praying. And when

  236. he got there verse thirteen, the Bible says, Peter.

  237. My knuckle is so sore, I'm gonna have to ice

  238. it before the eleven thirty Peter, Well, come on, this

  239. is Peter you know, Peter's loud.

  240. Peter. Peter's not knocking like Abby. Peter's banging on the

  241. door because they're still looking for him. He just broke

  242. out of prison. You knock different when you're desperate. You

  243. pray different when you know you need God. Peter knocked

  244. at the outer entrance and a servant girl named Rhoda

  245. came to answer the door while they were praying for Peter.

  246. And he's at the door. Their prayer request is standing

  247. in the form of an answer on the other side

  248. of the door. And when looking forwardeen, when she recognized

  249. Peter's voice, I think she recognized as not and nobody

  250. knocking as loud as Peter. Nobody knocks like Peter. Nobody

  251. is persistent like Peter. Nobody makes it through denying them

  252. three times and comes back to preach on Pentecost. My

  253. failures taught me persistence. Nobody knocks like Peter. Nobody knocks

  254. like the one who knows that even through my mistakes,

  255. God is working the miracles in this moment.

  256. Nobody knocks like Peter.

  257. And when she recognized his voice, Hey, she was so

  258. overjoyed that she ran back without opening it and told

  259. the people Peter is at the door. It's Peter, y'all.

  260. Hey guys, it's Peter. Hey guys, Peter wrote as a

  261. fourteen year old white girl in my mind, Hey guys,

  262. just Peter, and watch what they say. You're out of

  263. your mind. Well that's a compliment because my mind has

  264. been my prison all along. That's that's what I've been

  265. trying to get, is out of my mind.

  266. That's what's making.

  267. Me miserable, being in my mind and my thoughts, for

  268. his thoughts are higher than my thoughts, and his ways

  269. are higher than my ways.

  270. Out of my mind.

  271. Rhoda said no, no, She kept insisting that it was so,

  272. and they said, watch how much faith they had must

  273. be his angel. It was easier for them to believe

  274. that Peter died and his angel came to the door

  275. than it was actually him. Sometimes it is easier for

  276. you to believe that you are worthless. It is easier

  277. for you to believe that it's over, than it is

  278. for you to believe that dry bones can live again

  279. at the word of the Lord. But Peter kept on knocking,

  280. and I hear God saying to somebody today, don't stop knocking.

  281. You're at the right door.

  282. Don't stop knocking just because Rhoda ran back and the

  283. people didn't believe. God can use even the imperfect faith

  284. of a hurting church to break Peter out of prison.

  285. And if you keep knocking, if.

  286. You keep knocking, keep asking.

  287. Yeah, I know you don't have the answers yet, but

  288. now you're learning the questions. If you keep seeking, if

  289. you keep knocking, I'm declared in the name of Jesus,

  290. Peter is at the door. Hey, thank you for watching.
