  1. Potential is like milk. If you drink it and pour

  2. it out in time, it can be provision. But if

  3. you let it sit how many want to drink it

  4. after it's been sitting out for a month. It does

  5. a body good if you drink it in time, but

  6. if you let it get past that date that was

  7. put on the jug. That's why some of us are

  8. miserable because of unlived potential that's been sitting in the job,

  9. sitting on the shelf. I'm afraid to fail, so I

  10. won't try. And now my potential has become poisonous, and

  11. I'm miserable because I'm not living my potential. See the

  12. secret is, I don't really want to reach my potential.

  13. If I ever reach my potential, that means it's my funeral.

  14. So I don't want to.

  15. Reach my potential. What do I want to do? I

  16. want to do what Paul did. He said forgetting what

  17. is behind me. This is Philippians three, and straining toward

  18. what's ahead. I gotta forget about the past. My potential

  19. is not back there, and straining toward what's ahead, I

  20. gotta persevere. My potential won't come to pass if I

  21. play with it. I can't strike three times. I gotta

  22. strain towards something. I press toward the mark for the

  23. price of the high calling of God. And he said,

  24. so let me show you something. I gotta show you this,

  25. he said, He said Philippians three, verse fifteen. This is cool.

  26. He said. All of us, then, who are mature, should

  27. take such a view of things. What such a view

  28. of things? A view of things that knows that you

  29. have not arrived yet. A view of things that knows

  30. that what's behind you can't hold you, and what's ahead

  31. of you is greater than what's against you. God help

  32. me preach this message for three people who feel like

  33. it's all a God, but it's not enough. But it's

  34. all I got, But it's not enough, he said. All

  35. of us who are mature should take such a view.

  36. And if on some point you think differently, that's till

  37. God will make clear to you. In other words, if

  38. you think you've reached your full potential, if you think

  39. you've arrived, God will let sweep you to make sure

  40. you don't strut around in circles helping somebody. I'm helping somebody.

  41. I'm helping somebody. What's your name? What's your name? I'm

  42. helping you. But this one confused me. He said, only

  43. let us live up to what we have already attained.

  44. What live up? That means I'm not there? Attained That

  45. means I've arrived. Potential has potential. Keep preaching. Wayne All

  46. told me building houses is not your thing. He was

  47. kind of right, because my hands have never built a house.

  48. But I grabbed my microphone in twenty ten and I

  49. told the whole church about Love Week, and I said,

  50. we're all gonna surf. You know. I got to visit

  51. five different Habitat for Humanity sites where we were building houses,

  52. and it hit me, if I use what i'm God,

  53. God will be what I am not. How based out

  54. I thought, your neighbors say, working, working, working, working, work

  55. your wind, don't work your give work, your potential a

  56. party to its purpose. I wish this was a rowdy crowd.

  57. I wish this was a rowdy crowd. I wish y'all

  58. knew how to respond with the word of God. His storyline, potential,

  59. potential has potential. How did a microphone build a house?

  60. It's the power of potential. How did a stick park

  61. the Red Sea? It's the power of potential. How did

  62. a mustard seed become the Kingdom of God? How did

  63. a baby become the savior of the world. It's the

  64. power of potential. Only let us live up to what

  65. we've already attained. It's funny because the English translators didn't

  66. know how to translate what Paul said. What he said

  67. is let us live toward, toward, toward. I don't want

  68. to reach my potential. I want to run after it.

  69. My potential is what gives me the possibility of progress.

  70. If I was there, I wouldn't have anything to run for.

  71. That's what makes me get up in the morning. The

  72. possibility that I could be a better man today than

  73. I was yesterday, the possibility that I can fulfill. You

  74. know why I got up to preach. You know why

  75. I got up to preach. I preached the sermon on

  76. Saturday night. Some of my staff set play it back.

  77. It was good, I said, I think I could preach

  78. it better. I want to reach it. I want to

  79. reach I know I could quit, but I got some

  80. mair O slipt h. Don't play with me. This is

  81. the kind of prisson that'll mess you up. This is

  82. the kind of priation that'll stir up your tim This

  83. is the kind of preacher that'll lie a fire. Somebody

  84. sounds like you're not potential, not your place, it's not potential,

  85. not your gift.

  86. Plata I said, I says, I say, it's.

  87. In you, a sinu, a sendu, a sin you. It's

  88. in you, a sinus, in us in you. It's in you,

  89. as in Us, in us in you. It's in us

  90. Inus in you. It's in you, as in UIs in you.

  91. It's in us in you, as senuis in you. It's

  92. in you. It's in you. It's in you.

  93. Potential, initiatith, potential. Now now I know God was speaking

  94. to me before I came out. He's doing something. Before

  95. I came out, I kept thinking, initiative, initiative.

  96. There's a guy here at the church. You might meet

  97. him if you stay around a little whall. He is

  98. the campus pastor of our university City campus. And his

  99. name is Larry Brye, Larry Bryce from Minnesota. I met

  100. him in Shelby, North Carolina. I asked him to come

  101. help me start the church, and he was up had

  102. our revival and he turned over to me and he

  103. was on stage here Valentine, and he said, thank you,

  104. Pastor for seeing my potential. I never told him this

  105. till this moment, but I want to tell him right now.

  106. I didn't see potential in you. I don't have that power.

  107. I don't see potential in you. You can't see potential.

  108. None of us know. If they couldn't see it in

  109. the Beatles, and if it took Holly a full twelve

  110. months to get her act together and be interested in me,

  111. what I saw was patterns I saw. I saw patterns

  112. of initiative. I saw that when the pastor of the

  113. church that we were serving at said he wanted something,

  114. before he could get it out of his mouth, what

  115. he wanted built, Larry Bride was at loads with this

  116. pickup truck. I saw when a room needed painting, Larry

  117. Bride was out in the lobby and instead of drinking

  118. coffee over there just talking about the Good Lord, he

  119. was recruiting volunteers to paint a classroom. I said, I

  120. could use a guy like Bride. Jesus saw Peter Fishing said,

  121. I see potential. The way you throw that net is

  122. the way you're gonna preach my word. And the way

  123. you throw that net is the way you're gonna come up.

  124. I see potential. God, look to David, said, I see potential.

  125. The way you tend those sheep is the way you're

  126. gonna be king over my people. I see potential. Potential

  127. is revealed through patters. And how will you know your

  128. full potential if you don't give yourself to the process?

  129. Point number four and I'm closing with this. Process reveals potential.

  130. Write it down. Process reveals potential. You will never know

  131. what the relationship could have been if you do not

  132. embrace the process. It is in the process of trying

  133. that potential to continue is released. It is in the

  134. process of getting down to the bottom that you find

  135. out how to make it to the top. Process reveals potential.

  136. That's why God chose elif Shaw. He was plowing in

  137. the field faithfully, he was involved in the process. God

  138. picks people who aren't afraid of process. God uses people

  139. who don't run when the ground is hard. God uses

  140. people who plow in obscurity. God raises up people who

  141. have their hands sturdy, their sleeves rolled out, and embrace

  142. the process. And you will never know your potential if

  143. you keep resisting the process. By which God is trying

  144. to reveal it. You never know what your mic can do.

  145. You never know what your marriage could be. You never

  146. know what you could be as a dad. If you

  147. just keep stay stuck in the fact you didn't have one.

  148. Your past is not your potential, nor is it the

  149. best predictor of it. The limit to your potential is

  150. your purpose and your perseverance. Your purpose can't do what

  151. he didn't assign you to do, and your perseverance and

  152. he told him you should have you should have struck

  153. five or six times. My oldest son loves to argue.

  154. And you couldn't see that as a problem. I see

  155. it as potential because I feel like if we can

  156. get it applied to the right purpose. I don't have

  157. time to preach this whole sermon, but something you've been

  158. calling a problem is actually your potential in a different dimension.

  159. That he might make ten million dollars as a lawyer

  160. by the time he's twenty five and tied to me personally.

  161. Stephen Purdy incorporated ministries of Jesus Christ. It's not a

  162. real thing, and he was he was kind of arguing

  163. with me. He said, this is the most epic text

  164. in the Bible. But why not? He said, why not

  165. nine ers? Ten times? Why not fifteen or sixteen? Because

  166. the prophet was angry because here's a man named Elisha

  167. who one day, just going about the process of his life,

  168. a mantle falls on him. You can stay with me,

  169. l j. I'm closing. And when the mantle falls on him,

  170. his potential, his potential is revealed with a glimpse. It's

  171. just a glimpse. He did not fully realize his potential

  172. until fourteen years later that he was standing at the

  173. Jordan with the man that hit his shoulders while he

  174. was plowing. Because process reveals potential. God will give you

  175. a glimpse of the arrow and then he will call

  176. you to strike the ground. Process reveals potential. So why

  177. not nine times? Elija just asked a good question. Why

  178. not fifteen? I mean, if we're just striking the ground.

  179. But I had an answer because I'm not going to

  180. be out argued about the Bible by my eleven year old.

  181. Not a chance. There is no potential for that to happen.

  182. Tell somebody say you got potential. You got potential. I

  183. know you got potential, because if you didn't, God would

  184. have killed you by now, we'd be at your funeral

  185. if you didn't have potential. And what you do with

  186. it is up to you. You let it said, it'll

  187. be poisonous. You should have then you would have why

  188. five or six times? Here's my theory. It's just a theory,

  189. but it's absolutely true. Man of God was angry. You

  190. know why he said five or six times. Remember when

  191. he told him to shoot out the window. It said that,

  192. he said, take the arrow singular? What was the verse?

  193. Was it seventeen? The verse seventeen? Give it to me

  194. on the monitor. Here, everybody shot potential, You mumbled, whispered potential.

  195. I wanted you to shout potential. Shot potential. For my

  196. shout potential. Shout potential, potential, power of potential. You let

  197. it sit, it'll become poisonous. You'll start projecting onto other

  198. people the potential that you didn't fulfill. But if you

  199. release in the process, it will become your provision. So

  200. here's what the Man of God said. He said, open

  201. the east window, shoot the Lord's arrow of victory. You

  202. will completely destroy the Aramians. You will completely destroy you oppressed.

  203. Start the mark you will. You're gonna do it all

  204. verse eight. Then he said take the arrows plural. For

  205. some reason, when I used to visualize this story in

  206. my mind, I had the king with one arrow striking

  207. it over and over again. But now I realize all

  208. the prophet wanted him to do was use every arrow

  209. that was available. Why six arrows? You only did half

  210. of what you could have done. The only type of

  211. person I've ever found that God can only use in

  212. a limited measure is one who's half hearted. I've met

  213. addicted people that God used. I've met, I've met discouraged

  214. people that God used. I've met mean people that God used.

  215. Elisha was mean. One time he was walking back from

  216. healing the waters of Jericho. He had thrown some salt

  217. in the water, just like the Church needs to heal

  218. the toxic waters of our nation. Elisha took the salt.

  219. We are the salt of the earth. He threw the

  220. salt in the water. The waters became pure. It remains

  221. pure to this day, the Bible says. And the next

  222. thing he did, he's walking along and some boys come

  223. out of the woods and they start calling him baldy.

  224. It's in your Bible. Read it. Tewod Kings, chapter two

  225. verse nineteen through twenty five. They said, go on up baldy,

  226. going up baldy, And the Bible says he called down

  227. curses in the name of the Lord. When he called

  228. down curses, bears came out of the woods and killed

  229. forty two boys. You didn't learn that in Sunday school.

  230. It wasn't on your flannel graph because we don't know

  231. what to do with that. The same words that had

  232. the potential to heal had to bettential to kill. If

  233. your potential does not find its purpose, I'm telling you

  234. the pain of stopping shore, the shame of stopping shore,

  235. is worse than the pain of falling short. Why don't

  236. you press, Why don't you run, Why don't you go?

  237. Why don't you strive? Every arrow, every arrow, stand to

  238. your feet. I'm closing every arrow. I'm using every arrow.

  239. I'm using every arrow. I'm not leaving any arrows on

  240. the ground. I'm not leaving anything. Hey, thank you for watching.
