  1. When you are positioning yourself according to the peace and

  2. the purpose of God, and when you are present in

  3. the situation where he has placed you, God said, all

  4. the other things that people run after, I'm going.

  5. To bring it to you.

  6. If you want in on this word, shout, God's going

  7. to bring it to me. Come on, tell the person

  8. next to you, I don't have to chase it, stress

  9. about it, cheat to get it, violate my morality or

  10. my ethics. God's going to bring it to me. This

  11. is the covenant of grace. Watch this. I tried to

  12. get to God.

  13. I couldn't.

  14. So he ripped open heaven, stepped down to come inside

  15. of me so that the righteous requirements of the law

  16. might be fully met in us. No, I cannot achieve

  17. his holiness, but God's gonna bring it to me. Heaven's

  18. gonna come to my house. Heaven's gonna come to my mind.

  19. Peace is gonna come to my marriage. God's gonna bring

  20. it to me. I want to shut the whole sermon

  21. down for a minute and give God praise by faith

  22. that he's going to bring it to me.

  23. What you need, he's got it. God's going to bring

  24. it to me. God's going to bring it to me.

  25. When our praise and.

  26. Blessings come down, God's going to bring it to me.

  27. I don't have to beg him. God's going to bring it.

  28. Peter wasn't looking for a vision for his life. God

  29. brought it to him. All he did was go to Joppa.

  30. Can we talk about Joppa for a minute?

  31. Joppa. Everybody say Joppa.

  32. I thought about calling this message the Jopper-tunity of a lifetime,

  33. but that was corny.

  34. Yeah, I scratched that one out real quick. You can

  35. have it.

  36. That's not a good title for a message but it

  37. got me that he was in joppa because i was

  38. like hmm joppa.

  39. Joppa joppa joppa joppa joppa joppa.

  40. Okay support city i know that they put the timber

  41. there they would take the timber and the timber came

  42. there when they built solomon's temple i think i think

  43. they brought the timber from lebanon to joppa because it's

  44. on the mediterranean coast They brought timber there and then

  45. they sent it to build the temple. Oh, maybe Joppa

  46. is something where God takes the raw materials.

  47. Joppa. No, that's not it.

  48. Joppa, Joppa, Joppa, Joppa. Why does it say over and

  49. over again he was in Joppa? Go to Acts 10

    Acts 10:1

  50. verse 1. It says it a couple times. Because remember,

  51. Peter got in trouble. He didn't have to go looking

  52. for trouble. Trouble came looking for him. Well, y'all were

  53. shouting a minute ago.

  54. We just killed the vibe. I think we killed the vibe.

  55. Peter wasn't looking for controversy, wasn't looking for conflict, wasn't

  56. looking for problems.

  57. He was in.

  58. Joppa because there was a woman in the church at

  59. Joppa who was very important to the believers there, and

  60. he was in Lydda raising people from the dead, you know,

  61. just the stuff you do. And when he was in

  62. the middle of this crazy revival in Lydda, which wasn't

  63. too far from Joppa, this amazing E-Kids volunteer died. Her

  64. name was Dorcas. Her Greek name was Dorcas. Her name

  65. was also Tabitha. And they asked Peter if he would

  66. come to comfort them.

  67. And he got there.

  68. And he saw how important she was to all of

  69. them in Joppa. And he started looking at all the

  70. clothes that she sewed for widows. And she had a

  71. ministry to the poor. She cared about people. She served

  72. on the parking team. She cared about people. She worked

  73. on production at Raleigh-Durham. They hated to lose Dorcas. And

  74. Peter got kind of bored. You know, he was a

  75. man of action. So he's like, this is cool, like

  76. taking a tour of everything she did.

  77. But y'all leave the room. Check out this scripture real quick.

  78. I know I said Acts 10, but I want to

  79. go back to Acts 9 real quick. I want to

  80. give you the whole story. Because we know what happened

  81. when he got to Joppa. How did he get there?

  82. It's important. He went to Joppa to visit Dorcas. Give

  83. me 940. Peter sent them all out of the room.

  84. She's been washed and placed for burial in the upper room.

  85. And as they're memorializing her, he got down on his

  86. knees and prayed. And turning toward the dead woman, he said, Tabitha,

  87. get up. Peter's like, we can have a funeral or

  88. we could.

  89. Have a resurrection.

  90. Peter was bull. He tried it like Jesus one time.

  91. Jesus did the same exact thing, but it was with.

  92. A little girl.

  93. This little girl was dead and Jesus sent everybody out

  94. of the room because he knew that if they stayed

  95. in the room, that their doubt might make it impossible

  96. for faith to really do.

  97. What faith can do when it is unencumbered by doubt.

  98. What's the title of this message? Make room for the new.

  99. And when Jesus sent them all out, he said something

  100. in Aramaic, Talitha kum, means little girl, get up. Little girl,

  101. get up. Now watch Peter imitating his master. He sent

  102. them all out of the room and turned toward the

  103. woman and said, Tabitha, get up.

  104. It's almost like Talitha. It's just one letter different.

  105. And he thought something, if he did it, if Jesus

  106. did it, and if his spirit lives in me, I

  107. came with a message for somebody. Make room for resurrection.

  108. Make room for things in your life that you were

  109. just about ready to bury, to breathe again. Tabitha did up.

  110. And she did. She opened her eyes and seeing Peter,

  111. she sat up. Well, I guess so. She sat up

  112. and he stayed in Joppa a little while and they

  113. liked him. He was very popular in Joppa.

  114. Peter could have run for mayor of Joppa because he

  115. demonstrated great power in Joppa.

  116. Joppa. Joppa.

  117. It's a place where you don't expect anything great to happen,

  118. but something does.

  119. Joppa. Joppa is like your job. Joppa. Joppa.

  120. He was just doing his job, just going to see it,

  121. and a miracle happened. He was just going to see

  122. it and a miracle happened. He was just going to

  123. see it and going to comfort them and going to

  124. do what he did, and a miracle happened.

  125. Joppa. Joppa. A place where God put stuff together.

  126. Joppa.

  127. While he was in Joppa. Joppa.

  128. It's kind of familiar. Who else went to Joppa in

  129. the Bible? I was trying to remember. I was talking

  130. to the interns this weekend. I put them on the spot.

  131. We had such a good time, didn't we? I said,

  132. who else went to Joppa? They went through every character in.

  133. The Bible guessing. Zacchaeus, Bartimaeus, Luke, Matthew, John. I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no.

  134. It's somebody in the Bible. I'm going to give you

  135. a hint. It involves a fish. Rhymes with Jonah went

  136. to Joppa. But watch what he did in Joppa. You ready?

  137. Jonah 1.3 says, Jonah ran away from the Lord and

  138. headed to Tarshish. He went down to Joppa where he

  139. found a ship bound for that port. God called him

  140. to Nineveh, but he resisted it. He resisted going to

  141. Nineveh because those were not the people he expected God

  142. to bless. He resisted what he did not understand. He

  143. resisted what he could not conceptualize. He resisted what he

  144. had no frame of reference for. He went down to

  145. Joppa and boarded a ship heading away from the Lord.

  146. So now I've got a contrast and I want to ask, what.

  147. Will you do in Joppa? Will you be like Peter?

  148. Who when he got to Joppa and God sent him

  149. an opportunity to say, Peter, I want you to make

  150. room for something new. I want you to believe that

  151. I can break a barrier in your life.

  152. I want you to believe that I'm.

  153. About to do something that your mind has not conceived.

  154. Will you be like Peter who went with it? Or

  155. are you going to be like Jonah who ran from it?

  156. Peter went. to Joppa.

  157. While he was in Joppa praying, he saw something amazing

  158. that he didn't expect. And he looked and he saw

  159. a sheep from the four corners. Four corners representing the

  160. four corners of the earth. God's like, I'm about to

  161. break all of your barriers. I'm about to break through

  162. your unbelief. See, we talk about making room for the new.

  163. You want to go have a yard sale or something

  164. like that or put everything on.

  165. It's not about closet space.

  166. It's not about clearing out your closet. It's about the

  167. transformation of your mind. Do you have room for the

  168. new in your mind?

  169. Because they didn't. Peter didn't. When God showed Peter.

  170. What he was about to do, like this is the

  171. way it always is. When God shows us something, we

  172. compare it to our previous point of reference.

  173. And then we start consulting.

  174. Our resources and God wants to bring us new relationships.

  175. But watch this.

  176. If you're not ready for new people in your life,

  177. you will bring the same patterns to the new relationships

  178. that you brought to the old relationships. And we literally

  179. keep people out of our lives that God wants to

  180. send because we are holding on to the hurts from

  181. the one who have already left. I feel the spirit

  182. of God breaking barriers as I preach right now. Because

  183. you're like, what does this message have to do to me?

  184. I'm not getting on an airplane and going to preach

  185. to somebody in Caesarea like Peter did.

  186. You don't have to.

  187. All you have to do is dare to believe. That

  188. God is making room for the new in your life

  189. right now.

  190. And even sometimes when it was painful.

  191. For me and I thought I was losing things in

  192. my life, I wasn't losing it. God was moving it.

  193. Who is this for? I just need to know. Probably

  194. about 20 people. You didn't lose it. God moved it.

  195. He said you will still be eating last year's harvest

  196. when you have.

  197. To move it out. Somebody shout, move it out, God.

  198. Anything that is in the way of me being who

  199. I need to be in this season.

  200. Get it out of my heart. Get it out of

  201. my mind. Get it out of my habits. You can

  202. have it, God. I don't want it. I want what

  203. you've got.

  204. So you can't receive new miracles with old mindsets.

  205. Make room for the new. It looks like this. Emptying yourself,

  206. humbling yourself.

  207. And asking God, what do you want to do in

  208. my job?

  209. Or you can run from it and resist it.

  210. You can keep remembering when the kids were so cute.

  211. They are 43 now. They stopped being cute quite a

  212. while ago. The church was trying to figure out, how

  213. do we protect what we loved while we embrace what

  214. is new? I don't know.

  215. I think there are at least three lessons in this text.

  216. Do you all have a minute?

  217. Make room for the new. Number one, God says this.

  218. Don't limit yourself by labels. The first thing God told Peter,

  219. he said, you've got your nice little neat categories. Because

  220. when the sheep came down, Peter saw all kinds of animals.

  221. And y'all need to know, in this culture, they respected visions.

  222. This was not like Peter's hallucination or you know how

  223. some people now are so weird and they're like, well,

  224. the Lord showed me a vision of us walking on

  225. the beach. It's like, bro, you need to ask her

  226. out and stop trying to embed it in this weird spirituality.

  227. So Peter actually saw something, but remember, there's sometimes a

  228. tension between what you thought God showed you.

  229. It's a tension. And that tension is a real gift

  230. because that's where growth happens.

  231. Where it's like, God, I thought I thought I was

  232. going to be married to her the rest of my life,

  233. but I'm not.

  234. We're not married now. And that's painful.

  235. But what you do with it becomes your Joppa, which

  236. determines do you run from God's purpose for your future

  237. or do you run toward it?

  238. That's Joppa. And the word God gave me was don't

  239. limit it with a label.

  240. Because the first thing he told Peter, he said, Peter

  241. said in verse 6, Acts 11, I looked into it

  242. and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles,

  243. and birds. And then after he saw the pigs in

  244. a blanket, he said, I try.

  245. To keep y'all awake.

  246. Then I heard a voice telling me, get up, Peter,

  247. kill and eat. Now, when I read that, I said,

  248. God was trying to get Peter to go hunting? No,

  249. it wasn't about the animals. He was about to send Cornelius,

  250. who Peter saw as an unclean Gentile. So he was

  251. using this. It wasn't about bacon. It was about barriers,

  252. mental barriers. So when he said, get up, Peter, kill

  253. and eat, it wasn't that God wanted Peter to kill

  254. a pig. It was that he was trying to kill

  255. Peter's categories. In this season of your life, God is

  256. trying to kill your categories. He's going to use people

  257. you did not even like.

  258. To grow you up and mature you. There was one

  259. person the other.

  260. Day that shared a Bible verse with one of my kids,

  261. and they left our church years ago. They didn't even

  262. like me when they left.

  263. But when they gave a.

  264. Bible verse to my kids, I said, God, I don't

  265. care who hands them the Scriptures. Yes. I'll take a

  266. cold cup of water in the pit of hell from anybody.

  267. I don't care who hands it to them. Use who

  268. you want to use, God. Do what you want to do.

  269. Kill my categories.

  270. As a matter of.

  271. Fact, when we say all things work together for the good,

  272. what we mean when we quote Romans 8.28 out of context,

  273. because Romans 8.28 is connected and conjoined, incidentally, to Romans 8.29,

  274. which says, according to his purpose. So what it means

  275. by good is it's going to fulfill his purpose, not

  276. my preference. Y'all can shout right now. What it means

  277. is I can't categorize. That's God's job. It is God's

  278. job to know what's best for me. It is God's

  279. job to know what needs to happen. It is God's

  280. job to know what experiences I need to get. So

  281. God says, stop.

  282. Limiting it by labels. Hey, thank you for watching.
