Hey, you welcome to the Generation's Church Podcast. We pray you will be
-
blessed by this message. Today I made a word of God both encouraged and
-
challenge you to be all God purpose you to be. Now, let's dive
-
right in today's title is no more stinking thinking. We're talking about change,
-
but we're talking about your mind. Change, but change your mind, Amen,
-
Romans twelve, verse two. I think we touched on this last week.
-
Do not be conformed to this world. We said last week. If
-
you're not transforming, you are then just conforming. You're just becoming like everybody
-
else or what the world wants you to be. But God wants us to
-
transform by how, by the renewing of our mind. God actually told us
-
the secret how to do this, how to become a new person by renewing
-
your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect
-
will of God. Amen. We all want to grow. Anyone here doesn't
-
want to grow, and I don't mean sideways. I mean grow in knowledge,
-
grow in heart, growing spirit, because all of us automatically grow older.
-
You are now two seconds older than before. You have no choice.
-
Growing oh is automatic. Growing up is optional. We want to grow up.
-
You know, you look around the world, there are forty year olds
-
who still behave like it's fourteen year olds because they've grown, oh, but
-
not grown up. But we want to grow up. Amen. So growth
-
that's like growth is about change. Somebody say change, growth is about change.
-
If you don't change, you're not growing. So stop changing, you
-
actually stop growing. There's no way you can grow without changing. Amen.
-
And to change your life, you must change the way you think. The
-
Bible says. You want to transform, You want to change change your mind,
-
ringing your mind because behind everything you do, behind every behavior is a
-
thought, is a thought. Whether the thought is active or is subconscious,
-
there is a thought behind every action. Amen. So if you change the
-
thought, you change the action. You change your to change your life,
-
change the thinking, because every behavior is motivated by a belief, and every
-
action is prompted by an attitude. Amen. The Bible says in Proverbs twenty
-
three, verse seven, for as he thinks in his heart, so is
-
he. So we become like what we think. The Bible says, for
-
as he thinks it is hard, so is he. As you think in
-
the inner man, is you think in your heart? That's who you become.
-
You are what you think your life. My life is shaped by our
-
thoughts, everybody. Okay, so the Bible has given a secret to transform,
-
to become a new better person. Change your mind, change the way
-
you think. It's kind of like an autopilot imagining a speedboat. Okay,
-
everybody, imagine a speedboart Okay, the speedboat, and imagine this speed boat
-
is set to autopilot to go east. Whereas is okay? Wherever is okay?
-
One way. So let's just say easy is over there. Your boat
-
is set to go to autopilot to go east. Themes a hands free it
-
will just go over there right now to make the boat go west instead.
-
When the boat has been autopiloted to go east. There's two ways you can
-
do it. One he could, by sheer strength and greet just push the
-
steirring west and make it go west. Right, And it could work,
-
right, It could work until his muscles get sore and he gets really tired
-
and he lets go for a while, and then what would the boat do?
-
Just go back east again, because it's said to the old pilot,
-
right, that's kind of like how most of us try to change our life,
-
right, our life is set to autopilot to go one way because our
-
thinking has not been renewed, so we go one way. But we share
-
determination shure, like just brute strength. We try to change our life.
-
And when our gods are down, usually when we are stressed out, our
-
gods are down, we just go back to the same ord, same old
-
habits. Because you know, this kind of determination is short term change.
-
It's good for short term change, but not long term. In fact,
-
the long term is a better, easier way change. The autopilot set it
-
to go west, and you'll go that way. That is like our mind.
-
Amen, Our mind is like that. When you change the way you
-
think, you think west, or you think is when you change the way
-
you think, then it goes that way. The actions and the behavior follows
-
the thought follow me so far? Okay? Great? So Romans twelve us
-
do says, do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by
-
the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and
-
acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans telve us to in a new living
-
translation, this is really this way because it sounds simpler. Don't copy the
-
behavior and customs of this world. But let God transform you into a new
-
person. God wants you to be a new person. Remember last week about
-
new wine into new wine skins. You are the wine skin, God's spirit.
-
God's work is the new wine. Amen. God wants to transform you
-
into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know
-
what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing
-
and perfect his will really is. Amen. So change often starts where starts
-
in your mind, because the way you think determines the way you feel,
-
and the way you feel influences the way you act the way you think.
-
So, for example, let's just say you think, simple simple example.
-
Are you think money is to be spent? I have money is to be
-
spent. Some people think money is to be saved. Some people think money
-
is to be spent. Right, So how you think we effact the way
-
you feel about money? Right? Oh, I have money. Money is
-
to be spent. So when I see something I want to buy, my
-
impulse will be to buy it because money is to be spent, not saved.
-
So you end up buying the thing whether you need it or not.
-
You see how our thinking is the root of it. And then in fact,
-
the way you feel I must I must have this iPhone fifteen my work.
-
Your current food works perfectly fine, but I gotta have this one because
-
I need it when you really just want it. You see how our thinking
-
does that. Yep, if it's in four verse seventeen to twenty four,
-
this is a neutral living translation version, right, So it's okay with the
-
Lord's authority, Paul says. Let me say this, leave no longer as
-
the ungodly do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their closed minds are full
-
of darkness. They are far away from the life of God because they have
-
shut their minds and hidden their hearts against Him. They don't care any more
-
about right and wrong, and they have given themselves over to immorl ways.
-
Their lives are filled with all kinds of impurity and greed. But that isn't
-
what you were taught when you learned about Christ. Since you have heard all
-
about Him and have learned the truth that is in Jesus, throw off your
-
old eble nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and
-
through full of lust and deception. Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal
-
of your thoughts and attitudes. You must display a new nature because you are
-
a new person created in God's likeness, righteous, holy, and true.
-
Amen. Cool. So the Bible says, don't be like the ungodly.
-
If you all claim that you're in crime, and your Christians and the followers
-
of Christ, we shouldn't be behaving like the world anymore. Right, we
-
should and the way we should not behave the way anymore is to have a
-
renewed mind in your mind. Amen. So discipleship is which is what we
-
we say we want to do in church. The great commission, the command
-
of God to us Exchristian is to make disciples. So discipleship is the process
-
where we're all going through the rest of our Christian life. Disciplosh it in
-
summary is described as to be like Christ. That's what we're being discipled to
-
be. We're not discipling you to look like the pastor or disapple you to
-
look like the church brand, or disciple you to look like I don't know
-
what. Okay, but there's no discipleship. Discipleship is let's become like Christ.
-
But to become like Christ is to develop the mind of Christ. Because
-
the way God thinks affects the way he feels, and it influences the way
-
he acts. Right Like for example, when Jesus saw the five thousand hungry
-
people, the way he thought about people intros the way he act, he
-
said, let's feed them. Was he gonna be a big problem feeding seven
-
thousand, eight thousand people? Joshua does k thing? Hey, five thousand
-
people, No joker. Imagine all the place you have to watch somebody chicken
-
you to cook, all the rubbish after that. See, that's what the
-
disciples saw. They're not bad people, they're practical people. Phelix said,
-
no money, I can do this job. The rest say, Jesus,
-
I have a batter idea. Why don't we just send them home? Let
-
them buy their own food. No, people nowadays are very fussy. You
-
know, someone k told someone you know, Vegan lah someone how to everybody,
-
but had to let them choose. You See, if I, if
-
I were one of the disciples, I would do the same thing like Jesus,
-
paciously, like let's just let's just let them go, like get us
-
some money, let him buy himself. Because I would I would have thought
-
three steps a hit, Oh the rubbish later, Oh the requests you have
-
to deal with it. Can you please give me chicken breas I don't want
-
you can tie the chicken tag, yeah, kind of have the left one
-
good left with a bit more more muscular or more linear, can because a
-
left like chicken? So like you and all the requests, no, eight
-
thousand people, all the children want to like, Oh I can I have?
-
I did want to do now bro, so send them back. See
-
the discappoos. We have thought of all the work and Jesus thought about.
-
Just know they need to be fed. Let's just feed them. See thinking
-
your mind is everything, Amen, it's really. If you don't like the
-
way your life is, right now, try changing the way you think.
-
I know it's easier sat than done, but it can be done. Otherwise
-
the Bible won't say it right. So discipleship is to be like Christ.
-
To be like Christ is to develop the minor Christ. Think like Christ and
-
you will act like Christ. That's why the word repentance. When you say
-
repent, he's not asking you to feel sorry about this thing you did last
-
night, So you, guys, you not ask you to feel sorry.
-
He's asking you to change your mind. The word repentance in the gree is
-
meta noah, which means change your mind. That's repentance, because if you
-
no longer think the same way about pawn. I know, I'm looking at
-
you porn. It's like, okay, you okay, you wouldn't do the
-
same thing we did anymore because you've changed the way you think about it.
-
You look at it. It's disgusting. This is exploiting somebody's cousin's sister,
-
brother. Yeah, okay, this is bad the way you think. Meta.
-
Noah, there's repentance. Repent I feel so bad. I watched it
-
last night. It's no, it's I don't think the same way about it
-
anymore. Amen. So repentance is changing the way you think by adopting how
-
God thinks about everything? What does God think about money? We think the
-
same way. What does God think about relationships? We think? They say,
-
what does God think about spouse? What a God think about work?
-
What does God think about money? What does God think about anything? We
-
adopt the way He think about everything, and that becomes our mindset. It
-
changes our life. Amen. That's why in Philippines two five, he says,
-
in your lives you must think and act like Christ. Jesus must think
-
and act like Christ. Jesus everybody. Okay, you look too serious?
-
Ah, do I need to tell some jokes? Huh? Okay, cool,
-
you must think and act like Jesus Christ. Okay, So Christianity,
-
discipleship, this thing we're trying to do here and live out here is not
-
just a religion. It's not just a philosophy. I know I'm talking about
-
thinking, but it's not just a philosophy. It's not just a way of
-
thinking. It's a relationship and a lifestyle that is developed by the way God
-
thinks. So if is so much to do with our minds, if we
-
have to fix this mind in order to fix our life, Okay, let's
-
address the problems with our mind. What is the problem in our mind?
-
Next live? Please see If our mind had no problem, God would have
-
pointed it out right. God, God would not say something like, don't
-
worry about tomorrow. If we don't worry about tomorrow. The problem is we
-
all worry about tomorrow. We all worry about mostly things we have no control
-
off, like tomorrow, like what our kids will do when they go over
-
season, and yeah, without us and all these things. God knows.
-
That's why he says don't worry. He knows your fears, he says,
-
don't fear. He knows our minds are messed up. That's why he said,
-
we need our minds. So what's the problem in our mind? Okay?
-
There are many people in our world today who think that the problem with
-
our mind is that it doesn't have access to all the knowledge that he needs.
-
Our brains don't know enough. We don't have enough knowledge. If only
-
I know the Bible more, then O will be more spiritual. For example,
-
if only I knew the ways to be prosperous, you know, then
-
I will be a rich person. We think the problem of mind is that
-
it doesn't have enough access to information or knowledge, or maybe we think it's
-
therefore therefore, we think, maybe the is The solution is education. The
-
more we learn, the smarter we will be, the better we'll be at
-
life. We think that that's our problem with our mind, so therefore feed
-
it with more information. It can happen in church too. We think that
-
if we just listen to enough sermons, you know, the the the more,
-
the more American, the better, or I don't know what, the
-
more and more the better, and then we'll become better. We think that
-
we think the problem of mine is information knowledge, education, and so we
-
think to fix it is to learn more, hear more, listen more.
-
But the Bible has a more profound analysis of our problem. So Effesions four
-
twenty three says, be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Some say
-
spirit. What on earth is the spirit of your mind? Mine is mind?
-
Spirit? That one? What is it? But Paul talked about the
-
spirit of your mind, and then yeah, what the world is this the
-
spirit of mind? It means at least there's a at least this that the
-
human mind is not just some sophisticated AI or authentic intelligence or computer. There
-
is a supercomputer's managing data and then processes this data and then sends this data
-
to the heart and then the feels what he feels. No, it's not
-
just a machine. It means that our mind has a spirit. Somebody say
-
spirit. In other words, our mind has this thing called a mindset.
-
It has a spirit, It has a mindset. It means that our mind
-
doesn't just have a view It has a viewpoint. Demissa, we all can
-
look and see different. So Isaac and Aidan can look at the same girl.
-
Which guy you want to look at? Me? I'm not a girl.
-
This is your turns not to confess. Whicl you want to see Jeffrey
-
okay? Cool? So he made Isaac and Aidan can look at Jeffrey and
-
go Jeff, Jeff sorry Jeff, and go ada go Wow, he's good
-
looking. I want to grow up and be like him. I know this
-
perfect weight, perfect shape. I love it. I want to be like
-
Jeff is said my goal? Are you blind? You call that good looking?
-
Let me show you good looking? And you know, take a selfie
-
of himself or something. Right. They are both looking at the same person,
-
but they're seeing very different things. One seeing him as some wow,
-
some goal to reach, and another one is like whoa, whoa, whoa,
-
hands off? Right it happens. We all look, but don't see.
-
We all have the same where we have the same view. We're looking
-
at the same thing, we're listening to the same sumon, but we have
-
a different viewpoint. We see it from a different angle. The spirit of
-
our mind. So that means our mind doesn't just have the power to perceive
-
and detect, but our minds has a posture, a spirit, a demeanor,
-
a bearing, an attitude, a bent Because the spirit of our mind.
-
Our mind has a spirit, it has attitude. It's not just machine
-
ones and zeros. It's got an attitude. Amen, So we needs to
-
it's not just some ones and zeros and just code it and then it just
-
changes. It's got resistance. He's got attitude. It's got like I don't
-
want this. No, don't try to change me. Don't don't. It's
-
got attitude. And Paul says, we need to do not just renew the
-
mind. But we knew the spirit of your mind. Are you okay?
-
So far? And then we saw this. We see this in Romans one
-
eight. Romans one today says this. And since they did not see fit
-
to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debates mind to do what
-
not to be done? Kind of like God gave up on some people who
-
will not change their mind about God. Their mind is totally against God.
-
In rebelling against God, God's like, okay, La, just just I
-
will just leave it to you, okay. But this is who we are
-
by nature. We're all born into a nature of sin. By nature,
-
we are in rebellion against God. We don't think like God. We don't
-
naturally think like God. Amen. We don't. That's how we have to
-
be renewed. We do not see God as someone worthy of knowing well and
-
not someone we treasure above all things. If you're really honest with ourself.
-
And here's the elephant, right, we say, as Christians, we've been
-
trained and groomed to say all the right hallelujahs at the right time, all
-
the right amens at the right time. Right, see all the right things
-
right. Thursday Nights, Now we have devotion with the youth on discord thirty
-
minutes, nine thirty to ten. If your kids haven't told you yet,
-
now you know. Ten Thursday Nights we for a thirty minute devotion. We
-
just go straight into the word. No games, so nothing. You just
-
goes straight into one worship song. We talk about the word. Last Thursday,
-
we asked the question what do you value most in life? I mean,
-
you hear a question like that, the Christian, you go better say
-
God, my family, All these things we will say, but I challenge
-
them, Hey, let's not just give all the right answers. Let's give
-
real answers. What do you really mostly? For example, if there was
-
a fire in your house, okay, and you're just in time, to
-
be able to run in to grab something. Who would you grab first?
-
Because that would say something right, That will say something right? What you
-
value most harmony? If you were going there and grab your bible. Ah.
-
But then you're complete saying, oh I look got the most hard what
-
a god? But you grin there and grab your phone first or something,
-
you grab your golf bag, or going in there and grab your coach back
-
your Michael, cause I don't know. He will say something about us.
-
Right, there's a fire, you're run into the house. You can grab
-
one day, you get your rubber duck. No one, no do that,
-
your cattle? No man? What do you value most? So God
-
is telling us our natural minds, we don't value God most. We don't.
-
We don't naturally do that. We don't naturally get up and want to
-
pray. There's so most of the time it's called it discipline. Yeah,
-
and so God says, okay, there's this battle in the mind Romans one
-
twenty three, and they exchange the glory of the immortal God for images resembling
-
mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. See this is called idolatry.
-
We've replaced the real God with false gods, and the false gods can
-
be anything can be black, pink can be, pokemon can be tailors,
-
sweet, your Instagram will come, your job, someone's even our own children
-
can become bad if you're not careful women. This is what human being does.
-
We now fall in mind, we replace the immortal good with mortal images.
-
And for some of us, and for many of us, if we
-
care to be honest, the mortal image we worship most is the one we
-
see in the mirror. That's the one we worship most, right, I
-
mean, just think about the time you spend the last one week. What
-
do you do? Some of you did your hair, you went to salon,
-
some of you went shopping. You bought a new belt, I don't
-
know. So you went online and uh pick for robots. You bought a
-
game or you I don't know, you bought a book because you want to
-
fied your mind, study or so many things we did? How many of
-
those things? Actually it's invested into your spirit. Most of it, most
-
of it, if you're honest, even myself, right, most of it
-
is I of physical body because we worked out, or maybe our mind because
-
we read a book, or we did research and A lot of it is
-
got to do with just the self, right, And it's why God says,
-
hey, we have exchange real, the real God, with all these
-
other lesser gods and deaths idolatry. So see, that's what's wrong with our
-
minds. That's what our minds need to change, because already it's not naturally
-
wired to behold the glory of the immortal God, and we behold the glory
-
of something else, the one in the mirror or somewhere else. So we
-
need to be renewed. Amen, Now is it any wonder now we'd be
-
reading Romans twelve verse two, right, we haven't read twelve verse one.
-
You can see what telve on one says. I beseech you. Therefore,
-
how don't you use this language? I beseech you? Who police? I
-
b sees you jan lasaman okay, I b seich you. I urge you.
-
I use everything within me to encourage you. Friends, brother and sisters,
-
please by the mercies of God, meaning because God has been so good
-
to you. Because he's been so good to you, he's given you his
-
mercy and grace, things you don't deserve. He's given you everything by virtue
-
of that please love, please wall say, please present your body's living sacrifice
-
holy acceptable to God. Which is your reasonable service. He's not even radical,
-
living wrong. We think live for good so radical. No, the
-
Bible says, what do you mean redical? It's the right thing to do.
-
He's like, if the bread is wanting to gain, you pay and
-
gain. Oh, you're so ridical. I paid money for bread. It's
-
not so, it's it's reasonable. God is saying, I've done so much
-
for your life. It's only reasonable. Reasonable you live for me. And
-
this whole thing, this whole ver was one I can summarize himTo this one
-
word, worship. All of life is about worship. Amen. And verse
-
two is telling us you can't do this if you don't change your mind.
-
You can't make all of your life into worship until God, if you don't
-
change the way you think. If some of your days in the week is
-
God cannot touch. And God can touch my Saturday. God can catch my
-
Sunday and maybe Thursday nights too. But God can't touch the other day because
-
that's mine. Then not all of life is worship. Worship is not the
-
twenty minutes before at the beginning of the service, there's four songs, two
-
songs, three songs, twenty songs. If you come from those churches,
-
I don't know. It's not that singing is part of expressional worship. But
-
worship is all of life. The Bible says presents your body as a living
-
sacrifice, living sacrifices on them. You put it on the althar, you
-
guts get you can crawl off. No, not today, God, maybe
-
tomorrow. I was sacrificed myself constantly happen. This is a self discipline to
-
put yourself on the altar every day. Okay, God, I'm yours at
-
work, I'm yours. In class, I'm yours. When nobody is looking,
-
I'm yours. How I spend my money is yours. How I don't
-
spend money is yours. How I treat people, it's yours. How I
-
treat the God that serves us every day is this worship. The aim of
-
life is worship, and we cannot do it if we don't change the way
-
we think. And seriously, if we are honest, we don't think like
-
we should think, because there are still areas we just do not want God
-
to touch. We're very protective over certain things. Amen. Again, I'm
-
not I'm not asking you to be to open yourself up to abuse. You
-
know, this is a lot of spiritual abuse in churches everywhere, right or
-
we usually scout like concepts to guilt trip you into serving and giving, and
-
I don't want to be like that. Get hold me, uncomfortable. This
-
is not what I'm trying to say. I'm not trying to say give your
-
life to the church where you know in just six days a week. Now
-
you're not holy enough. No, yeah, you know holy because you're not
-
the seven days a week. Uh, that's what I'm saying. I'm saying
-
everything's worship. Everything. How you talk to your grap driver, it's worship.
-
How to talk to your kids worship. Everything is worship. How do
-
you treat your employees? Worship Gods's do everything. Everything means what I'm sorry,
-
but everything. It's you. When you poop what you got, thiles
-
always worship you know how you poop poo? Holy? Amen? Everything means
-
everything. Amen. So we need God to renew our minds so that we
-
can worship Jesus through our very lives. This is my point today. Why
-
we need our minds renew and change is so that we can effectively worship Jesus
-
through everything, not just through songs. Until this is renewed, we can't
-
fully worship him, which is the point of life to worship Jesus. Amen,
-
we know what is important because how we think affects how we feel and
-
how we act, and how we act forms our lifestyle. All the sum
-
of your behavior becomes your lifestyle. Yeah, your lifestyle lif styf could be
-
like every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, I jog. That's your lifestyle because
-
every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, you get up and you put on your
-
shoes and you run your action. Some of your action becomes your lifestyle.
-
Every month, every morning you wrote, you do that consistently. It's your
-
lifestyle. So you want to change your lifestyle, you change the way you
-
act, You change the way you act. You have to change the way
-
you think. Now ultimately you get a you have healthy thinking, you have
-
healthy lifestyle. Follow me so far. So we need God to renew our
-
minds because that's how we can worship Jesus through our very life. Because how
-
we think affects, how we act, and how we act forms our lifestyle.
-
So if you want to live a lifestyle or worship, renew your minds.
-
Worship God in spirit and in truth. That is to say, worship
-
God both in your heart and in your mind. The hard part we can
-
understand because with most of the time worship we feel like, oh I'm so
-
