Just Because...Doesn't Mean...(When You Are Let Down) - An Easter Message | Andy Yeoh

Hey there, you're listening to the Generation's Church podcast. We pray that the

word of God today will challenge change and channel you into your God given destiny.

Now let's get started, and this morning, I have a message to

bring to you. I'm very excited about this, and if I can just

present to you right now the title of the message, and it sounds like

this is just because dot dot doesn't mean are you ready? Just because blank

doesn't mean blank will feel those blanks this morning. There's a subtitle. The

subtitle is when you are let down. I don't know why every ister I

bring the pressing messages. This last ister, I remember preaching about doubt,

but some doubted, what a what a message to prison resurrection Sunday? Some

doubt? But I just feel led this morning to speak about this when you

are let down? My mind. I tried to prepare other messages, but

my mind kept going back to the two disciples, Clopus and his friend I

don't know what his name is, on the road to in Maeus and this

messages, these few words keep coming back just because doesn't mean when you're let

down. So let's read this passage. Look twenty four, verse thirteen of

thirty five. You can turn to your bibles. Otherwise you can make a

book mark. You read it later. I put it on a slide for

convenience. This is from the esb version verse thirteen. That very day,

two of them were going to a village named Emmaeus, about seven miles from

Jerusalem. It's a long walk, and they were talking with each other about

all these things that had happened. What had happened. Jesus died, he

was buried, stuff like that. He's gone. Jesus is gone for them

verse fifteen. While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself junior and

went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. They did

not recognize Jesus verse seventeen. But he said to them, what is this

comes that you are holding with each other as you walk? And they stood

still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Kloppus, answered him,

are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things have

happened there in these days? Strong? Would you? And he said to

them, Jesus said, he pretended what things blower? Sometimes leaders to blow?

Oh, And they said to him, concerning Jesus of nature a man

who was a prophet mighty indeed and word before God and all the people.

And how our chief prison and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death

and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem

Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day.

He's been gone for three days, third days since these things happened.

Moreover, some women of our company amazus. They were at the tomb early

in the morning, and when they did not find his body, they came

back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels who said that he

was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and

found it just as the woman had said. But him they did not see.

And he said to them, oh, foolish ones, and slow of

hard to believe all that prophets have spoken. Was it not necessary that the

Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory? And, beginning with

Moses and all the prophets he interpreted to them in all the scriptures, the

things concerning himself, Jesus preached the greatest message ever preached. Good Friday.

We heard this right, And so they drew near to the village to which

they were going. He, Jesus, acted as if he were going further

father, but they urged him strongly, saying, stay with us for eighties

towards evening in the day is not fast spent. So Jesus went into stay

with them. When he was at the table with them, he took the

bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them, And their eyes

were open, and they recognized him, and he vanished from their side.

They said to each other, they're not our hearts burn within us while he

talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the scriptures.

I mean, I prayed every time he opened the word of God, that

the fire points within us and man, that it comes alive who and it

rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found eleven and those

who were with them get it together, saying, the Lord has reason indeed,

and has appeared to Simon. Then they told what had happened on the

road and how he was known to them in the breaking of the breid Amen.

These two men, Clopos and his friend, they were let down.

They had hoped that expectation, they had once they had desires but they were

let down. Have you ever faced disappointments before? Anyone here? You must

be thinking, are you crazy? Of course, of course if I were.

If I were to interview one by one, everyone has one or more,

probably more disappointment stories. I was recently, very very disappointed. Crush

couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, couldn't live, couldn't live, couldn't live life,

Life has no meaning because Liverpool lost to Manchester United in the very last

moment. Disappointment. Did you feel my heartbreak? Come on Manchester at Evan.

You must be used to it by now. You don't know what I'm

talking about disappointment. Do you know what disappointment feels like? It feels like

four three? You know, every week Jaye and I have we have family

night already, at least we try to have one family night away and usually

watch a movie or Zarah likes to play who No. And yesterday went to

youth outing with the youth to a board games cafe. Zarah was there.

We each have to pay twenty two ring it for unlimited hours of playing and

many many different games there, very cool games. And all Zara wants to

play was oh, no, I'm like, no, no, go home

and play lot. Don't waste time here. So we have family and I

we play oh no, sometimes we play Nintendo Switch. Jay hayes it,

but Zion loves it. Sometimes before the frame night takes place and it's it's

a big thing forward to they're like, oh family nine yay. Sometimes they

go get the pop, come themselves and microwave it themselves. They all these

themselves. But sometimes J and I get into a fight before that, sometimes

sometimes like once in fifteen years or something. And then when we do get

into a fight, then I no more mood, no more mood for family

night. And then you know, usually either J or me or one of

us or go into room and then there's it, and our children will be

like, who's family and I what happened would be so disapportable. We feel

bad, but we're angry at each other. So like you already towards and

are like, oh disappointed. Have you ever felt this the moment before?

Maybe maybe not like what I said earlier, Maybe yours is I don't know.

Have you been let down by I don't know, maybe you lost a

business deal. You will promise you're going to get someone said I'm gonna get

your business deal and you you kind of plant everything around that, but you

lost it. It didn't happen, didn't materialize. Maybe, hey, singles,

you were rejected by someone who let you on. They were answering all

your messages went on, all the dates you paid for everyone, you know,

like all things are going well. Sadly to find out on Instagram did

there with another guy? M Have you ever, I don't know, been

hurt by the pastors, leaders, preachers, and they were supposed to be

the one that loved you, care for you, nurture you. But yet

maybe they manipulated you, abused you disappointed, Maybe be let down by your

husband who seems to care more about his work or his spot more than you.

Maybe, hey, students, you scored lower on the subject. Maybe

you even failed that you study, You studied very hard for you thought I'm

gonna get eighty time and then you can totally did very badly. Yeah,

something like this. You know, disappointment is caused by unmet expectations. Yes,

but is there anything wrong with the expectations? No? Really, I

just wanted my team to win. I just want to be happy. The

rest of the week say, anything wrong with my children wanting to play with

your parents? Yeah, nothing wrong, you know some some people just want

a strong business is that does well so they can put food on the table,

pay for all, pay the bills. Some people come to church to

really just worship God and be to love and to be loved, But yet

they've been hurt instead. Nothing wrong with expectations, right, Usually they're usually

innocent, good. Others just want a loving spouse. Someone and else just

wants promises to be honored. That's all, keep his word. The students

just want to pass the exams just to get through. So nothing wrong with

the expectations. Nothing wrong with these two guys who expected Jesus to do somethings

a certain way, but then they were disappointed because the expectations were not met.

Question, what do we do with disappointments? What do we do with

heartbreaks? The two friends, two disciples on the road to amirs. They

were heart broken, crushed, their hopes were dashed. You could feel it

in their words. Yeah, sometimes you read something, especially a text,

or its dangerous the text because you can you can read tone, you can

feel tone, right, so sometimes better than me face to face. But

this one. You can pretty much feel their despair, the disappointment. Look

twenty four to fourteen, and they were talking with each other, they were

processing basically seven months of process. Like, man, what happened? We

thought this? No? We oh man, how come like that one?

Why did the people turn against Jesus? Jesus, you know, such a

good man. Why did you turn against him? He could have come down

from the cross. Why didn't he What you mean, he just let pilot

and the regers push him around? Come on, what do we do now

he's gone? You could hear it. And then look twenty four fifteen to

sixteen. While they were talking and discussing together, while they were processing their

pain and the disappointment, Jesus himself drew near and when with them, he

walked beside them. He were walking with them, but their eyes were kept

from recognizing. Came my first point. Just because you don't recognize him doesn't

mean God doesn't see you. Just because you don't see him doesn't mean he

doesn't see you. Sometimes you think, because we don't see him, we

don't see him. In the situation, we don't see him. The pain

with thing, Ah, God must have forgot to me. No, He

sees you. He saw these two guys, He saw through their facades,

saw the pain, saw the condition of the heart. God sees your disappointment.

God sees your despair. God sees the discouragement. He sees you in

the crowd. He'll pick you out and man in some of you. During

the course of this message. It's gonna feel like I'm talking to you.

You're gonna feel like, oh, he's talking about me. He's talking to

me. It's not me, it's the Holy Spirit God who sees you.

I know you came in your smiles, and you came in your Eastern dress,

and today seems to be white and black. I think that I didn't

get the memo. I was trying to blend in Ah. But he sees

you, you know, behind a smile or behind the tear of whatever it

is to put on, he sees you. Just because you don't recognize him

doesn't mean God doesn't see you. Not alone, this guy is that To

the suppos, they must be thinking, oh, as if it's not bad

enough that Jesus was killed, now they stole his body and treats everyone there

is God. Those grave robbers, you think they were gonna believe the women.

He's alive. He's alive. They were like, come on, delusion,

like your please lie they We're not gonna believe them if they're done taking

risk. They follow a man that promised them freedom and he's gone, so

they're gonna take risks. They don't want to be hurt again. That's the

common reaction. Right you feel you felt it hurt by love, don't love,

promise broken, don't trust heartbroken, Never give your heart away again,

blame hearten your heart, protect yourself, save me the church hurt before.

I'm never serving again. I'm never signing up again. I'm just gonna sit

there. There's a common reaction, and I can mention these guys trust believe

Nah, not for me once. Shame on you, for me twice,

same on me. So nah. Now, guys, there's a there's a

line. It's a fine line. It's a and if you cross this line,

it could be fatal. It's the line, that fine line between disappointment

and anger, hurt and hate, so very fine line. Hurt can very

turn, can very soon turn to hate very quickly, bitterness and blame.

Very fine line. If you're nearing that line today, don't cross it.

Let me urge you don't cross it, step back. Ask yourself this,

how long am I going to pay for my disappointment? How many more days

A'm gonna let pass by wasted because of my disappointment? How long am I

going to be nursing this hurt? Because friends, at some point you have

to move on, there's no way to live. At some point you have

to heal. At some point you have to let Jesus do for you what

he did for these two guys. And what did Jesus do He came,

Amen, Jesus drew near, he came, He didn't complain. Jesus said,

are you Why won't they believe? Why so hard to please these people,

these Christians, this children of mine? Why it is so difficult to

please? God met them at the point of their pain. He will do

the same for you. Amen. Disappointment will do that to you. They

couldn't recognize Jesus, you know why. And just like us, sometimes Jesus

is right there beside us, he's around us. We don't feel him,

you know why, because of disappointment. Disappointment will do that to you.

You will blind you to the very presence of God. Discouragement will turn your

eyes inward. Felt that before. It's all about you? What about my

o? Pain? What about mind? Joy? What about it? Comes?

This discouragement will turn your eyes inward. God could be walking next to

us, but display despair will cloud our vision. We can't see him,

we can't see it. Despair will do something else. Not only does it

cloud our vision, it will harden our hearts. And that's why you could

be in the most holy place and still can't receive. Discouragement. Disappointment we

we all feel, and it may be experiencing right now, can do that

to us. We become cynical. Even when good news come. Hey,

the to me is empty. He's alive. When good news come, we

don't want to accept it. We don't dare. We don't dare join in

the celebration because I don't want to be disappointed again. I feel disappointment.

So no, Na, you can keep your good news to yourself. I'm

I'm just I'm just gonna walk on. So just because you don't recognize God

doesn't mean he doesn't see you. He sees you, he sees your pain.

Amen. And that's what happened to these two. They were so disappointed

despair hardened. Look twenty four, twenty four. More Over, some women

of our company, amazes, they were the tomb early in the morning,

and when they did not find his body, they came back saying they had

even seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. And some

of those who were with us went to the two and found it just as

the women said, but they did not see him. They did not see

It's always circling back to the disappointment. Here's my second point first, and

was what just because you don't recognize God doesn't mean he's doesn't see you.

He sees you. He sees you, He knows your name right here.

He might be hiding in the dark, but he sees you. Secondly,

just because you're stuck doesn't mean God he isn't on the move. We're saying

this now. He's on the move. Amen. We are stuck, but

he's on the move. He's doing something in your life right now as we

speak, right now, in your stuckness, right now, in your I

can't go forward, I can't go backward back what I die for, what

I died while you're stuck. God is on the move, amen. Like

I said, earlier. There is a fine line between hurt and hate,

and so at some point you've got to move on. You're stuck, someone

says God, it's so used to the pain. We don't want to move.

We don't know how to live without it. Who will pity us?

Then? Who will pity party with me? Stuck? But God is on

the move. Amen? Amen, So we cannot hurt forever. We have

to heal. Let Jesus do what he did for the two of them.

What did he do? Like I said, he came to them. He

didn't complain, he didn't scold them, he didn't say, you use the

sun atter you. He came. He came to us like the father when

he saw the prodigal son come back, he ran towards the son. God

is a very present help in time of me. He will meet you at

the point of your hurt, pain, disappointment, despair, discouragement. God

is on the move, and he's moving towards you. You're stuck, but

he's coming to you. He's coming to you. Whoever feels stuck today,

Hey, it's resurrection Sunday. God is moving towards you. Even then,

even though Jesus walking next to them Jesus came to them, these two.

They were hurt, and so they had lost hope. Look twenty four,

nineteen twenty one. And he said to them, what things? And they

said to him, considering Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet

mighty indeed and word before God and all the people, And how our chief

prison rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death and crucified him. But

we had hoped that he was the one to Rea deemed Israel. Yes,

and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

There it is there, it is we had hope. That's the disappointment.

They thought Jesus was soon to be some political hero that will drive out

this, this invaders, this, these colonists. They thought Jesus was gonna

be this warrior, this new prime minister that was saved the nation, this

this person. But he died. No hero dies, but he died.

He had hope. How many of you had hope dashed before these two?

He had hope. So here's my third point. Just because you've been hurt

doesn't mean there's no hope in God. Sometimes because you're so hurt. We

can't see the hope. Hey, but just because you're hurting doesn't mean there

is no hope. Unfield expectations. God didn't do what they wanted him to

do. Oh, they were good disciples, they had good hearts, sincere

prayers, sincere intentions, but maybe wrong expectations, just like many of us.

Nothing wrong with what we want, pure intentions. We just want life

to be better God. We just just want healing. I just want this

most of the time. It's not bad. But Jesus didn't do what they

expected him to do. Hey, question, are you glad that God didn't

do what you wanted him to do? Not a true question? Real?

Are you glad God didn't adjust his agenda to fulfill your requests? Think about

it? Quite have to answer because like, in a way I wish he

did what I wanted him to do, But in a way, if he

did it the way I wanted it, it may not be. Imagine Jesus

came and like rescue himself from the cross, and I'm powerful, you romans,

So just you think you wt hey today we're go. No, it's

no forgiven, no scenes, no salvation, nothing, Okay, okay,

assuming if you want me to do this, say, okay, I'll come

in a white hose one hand, I will wipe everybody out. Okay,

Pilot and all the whole Roman empuyer. You know, sometime my kids expect

different from me. Like last night, whole day out, Zion was holding

out. His favorite thing to do is play games on the iPad. It's

got roadblocks into this game. Now we have to collect diamonds and stuff and

keep going back to it, you know, And this is how to get

you, right, They have to get the children coming back. And so

we had promised him that now when we get home around it's something after dinner,

we'll play for half an hour. So I promised him. He played

for half an hour, went downstairs to watch a movie, came back up

again at ten thirty eleven almost and I haven't prepared my message yet, So

I took I play with you for half an hour and then I'm gonna prepare

my message. Right. He comes back eleven and wants to play again.

There he please, can we play some more? And I had to say

no. I had to say no because he's crushed. Look at his face

on Maybe I'll say yes so so, but hey, sometimes parents do know

better. You need to sleep, you need to rest, and I need

to prepare message. So sometimes God disappoints us, says no to us.

God may hear your requests. He does, but he may not heed it.

Hear my son say you want to play hour? Yeah, sure,

but I'm not hitting it. It's not good for you. God may hear

requests, but he may not heed it. Why because he knows better.

God knows better. In fact, he knows better and better he knows best.

God may allow temporary pain in order that we may have eaten a pleasure.

God may allow little delays so we may have greater delights. God may

allow us to lose some bettles so that in the end we may win the

war. Aren't we glad that God sometimes say no to our ones and yes

to our needs. Hey, we may not be happy. My son wasn't

happy. We may not be happy, We may be hurt, but God

does not harm us. Every parent here you notice there is no freaking way

you will never hurt your children. You always hurt your children when you say

no them, But no parent he will want to harm them. It's too

different thing. Hurt and harm is to different things. We have to understand.

Hurt is inevitable. Harm is something altogether. Harm is intentionally hurting,

damaging somebody. God doesn't do that. But I come promise you God won't

hurt you. Even the doctor who wants to heal you hurts you, pricks

you, cuts you, grabs you. Your bad doctor. Liah make God

such thing. So just because you've been hurt doesn't mean there's no hope in

God. God has hope for you. There is hope, amen. And

our hope in God is to know that God knows best, loves you lots,

and does great things. This is how God hope. And faith is

the conviction that God knows more than we do about this life and He will

get us through it. Somebody say, man, disappointment is caused by unmad

expectations. Therefore disappointment is cured by revamped expectations. Can I tell you a

story about a fellow who went to the pet store in search of a singing

parakeet, you know, one of those hold looking sing one. It seems

he was a bachelor and his house was too quiet, so he wanted to

find us singing bird. The store owner had just the bird for him.

Ah, I know which one I have? You you need singing bird?

Right? I have? I have so the man, but the bird.

The next day, the bachelor came home from work to a house full of

music. No no, no, no, no no. He went through

a cage to feed the bird and notice, for the first time the bird

had only one leg. He felt cheated. I paid for his bird only

one leg. He'd be sol a one ligued bird. So he called and

complained, and the sto said, what do you want? You want a

bird who can sing, a bird who can dance? Good question, in

times of disappointment, what do we want? If you're honest, we want

we want God to do what we want. That's what Jesus asked the disciples,

What do you want? What are you talking about? What do you

really want? Do you want temporary freedom, temporary relieve or do you want

eternal salvation? Freedom, liberty? And then Jesus sets about to do this,

revamped the expectation. He went into his mode of God and began to

change the expectation. So he told them the story, his story. He

shed with them the gospel. He started with Moses, and he ended up

with himself. Jesus is cure for a broken heart is the story of God.

So can I say this to you? Change the narrative. Jesus changed

the narrative. You will hear this in your counseling station. Two. Your

terrors will tell you. Okay, change narative. I give, I give

you for free. Change the narrative. Jesus is oh wow, yeah,

oh so painful. Oh yeah, okay. Let me tell you a story.

Let me tell you my story from Moses all the way to himself,

the Gospel, the good News. Turn your neighbor and say, change the

narrative. So here's the next. Just because just because you are lost doesn't

mean God is not in control. When we are disappointed, change the narrative.

Because the narrative is about you. You always feel in the dumbs.

Jesus changed the narrative because its not about It is about you kind of,

but it's not about you you. It's about giving you Amen. When we

are disappointed, change the narrative. I'm not just asking you to be delusional.

I'm not in pain, la, Nola, I'm not in pain,

lah. Change the narrative means, Hey, this pain has a purpose,

This reign has a reason. Amen. You may have lost control, but

God is still in control. We need to hear a narrative that tells us

that life's mishaps and tragedies are not a reason to build out, but they

may simply be a reason to sit tight, hang on, believe, and

trust. Amen. Corey Tanboom said this, When the train gets through a

tunnel and the world gets dark, do you jump out? Of course not?

You see still and trust the engineer to get you through. Amen.

So, just because your loss doesn't mean God is not in control. God

is still in control and He's got you. Listen to the next part.

I would say, a man who died and raised himself from the dead is

in complete control. Wouldn't you like? Dude? Seriously, he died and

raised himsel, He's in control. This is the same guy in a storm.

They both about to sink. Everyone's panicking. What's he doing? Taking

a nambro? I always try when I read the Bible? I sort to

you mentioned opposite, I sort you mentioned Jesus panicking? Oh stormer, Hey

Peter, what are you doing? Come on, scoop. If that's your

God, changed God? Seriously, if he's panicking, you better change board.

Change God. Not just in narrative just see see if God can sleep

in the storm. You two legs. Let me see's in control. It's

a storm he can sleep in, so we chill. I love that story.

Take the map and look at see your galley? I know the name

is your galley? Do you know what? This is? A lake?

It's a contained body of water you drown on, so easy to find,

no open sea, but so classical human being. Ah, this is the

worst exam ever. What the girl rejected me? A gone case like many

fishes in the ceila coffee and bagel, tinder, whatever you choose, a

generation shirts huh ah. And gods up there looking you're in a lake,

not hard to finally, who are not dying? Dying? And a saving

sleeping taking a nap. This is why sometimes it feels that God's not there

because your problem is not big enough to wake him up. He's chilling me,

like, oh what fifty million ring? That sleepers? What cancer?

I really pieces going branker. Come on, okay, I'm not saying those

those things are not scary. I'm just saying when you feel like God is

sleeping, are you God sleeping at you? You better thank God he's sleeping.

If he's panicking what you lost one, Oh, I don't know what

to do. As Buddha, No, he goes, He's got no reference.

He's God all by himself, you know, as Google, as GPT,

God has no reference. He's God all by himself. Amen. So

I'll say, a man who died and raised himself on the day, he's

in complete control. Amen. So, friends, this morning, as I

am remember the story, remembered the narrative. Christ died and rose again.

We have hope. God sees you. He's moving towards you. He has

hope for you, and he's in control, and he's got you. If

life has changed the narrative, you change it back. Because the gospel is

good news. We're not disacknowledging the pain. We're not saying what you're going

through is it is real. It is very real. The fear is very

real. All those are real. So is our God. He sees from

a different perspective. Hemen, we are down here in the lake. All

we see is what He is up there saying, Hey, I've got this.
