  1. Hey, you welcome to the Generation's Church podcast. We pray you will be

  2. blessed by this message today made a word of God both encouraged and challenge you

  3. to be all God purpose you to be. Now let's dive right in.

  4. Hey, church, I'm really excited about the discipleship series we're about to embark

  5. on. I'm calling the b Attitudes of Following Jesus. I will explain what

  6. the title means, but model come in the weeks to come, all right,

  7. But I'm really excited about it because I think that a Church of Jesus

  8. Christ, we cannot run away from our call to make disciples. That's literally

  9. the mission of the church. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.

  10. So we really got to understand what this all means. So we're about to

  11. embark on a very exciting journey of learning from Jesus and the Word of God

  12. what discipleship means. But today, this this message is a part two of

  13. a prelude to that message, because I'm trying to set some foundation here and

  14. you will all start to make more and more sense as we go along the

  15. series. But today there's something I need to address before we move further,

  16. and the title of the message is a form of a question, and it

  17. is this, how big is your heart? We all have a heart,

  18. but how big is it? Right? How big is it? The Bible

  19. says in Matthew twenty two, verse thirty six to forty some people came with

  20. Jesus, and they asked him, teacher, which is the great commandment in

  21. the Law. And Jesus said to him, you shall love the Law your

  22. God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your

  23. mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like

  24. it, You shall love your neighbor. Ask yourself on these two commandments depend

  25. all the law and the prophets, so Jesus is saying. And I know

  26. you guys, where you guys are coming from. You've been brought up to

  27. kind of like follow and live by a whole bunch of rules. You know,

  28. my father gave ten to the people, and the Pharises made it six

  29. hundred plus. And then you know, you guys are confused, and you're

  30. asking me which is the greatest And I'm telling you, you know what,

  31. everything can be summarizing into these too. In fact, these two is kind

  32. of like one. The second and the first one is one and the same

  33. because you can't really do one without the other. Basically, it's you know,

  34. if if I were to periphrase and make it really simple, it's love

  35. God and love people. So he's saying, love the Lord your God,

  36. all your hearts, all mine and strength. And the second one is love

  37. a neighbor is yourself. Now it starts with love the Lord your God,

  38. with all your heart. There's something about the heart that God wants. This

  39. verses tells us that what God wants from us is first and foremost our heart.

  40. God knows that when he has our heart, he has us. If

  41. you give God your money, he may not have you. If you got

  42. your car, your possession, you know, he may not have you.

  43. But when God has your heart, that's when he knows he has you.

  44. And there's something about the heart that got ones and that's why you know.

  45. You probably have heard worship songs, love songs sometimes somehow it's just it's the

  46. heart. Like you don't hear people sing Lord, I give you my lungs.

  47. It just doesn't work. Even if you have two pieces. A lung

  48. comes in a pair, right, you got a left one right one the

  49. heart. It's just one. I mean, you can't justify and say,

  50. oh God, I'm giving you my lungs. It's much bigger. It's got

  51. two pieces. I'm giving you more of me than if I give you my

  52. heart. Right, this just doesn't work, or you can't just you can

  53. sing if you want on my nose, you got it, you got it.

  54. It just doesn't work. It's got to be the heart. I know

  55. that's this is a funny way of looking at it. But you know,

  56. you know what God means when he says, heard, it's not just that

  57. organ that pumps blood, but the very center of you. And God is

  58. saying we've got to love him with our heart first? Why does God want

  59. our heart? Our heart is not even the biggest organ in our body.

  60. But why the heart? And it brings it begs the question actually talking about,

  61. you know, not being the biggest organ in the body. How big

  62. is our heart? It's so big that you can keep on trying with things

  63. that fill your heart. You know, you can put in Bible, study

  64. cams, whatever else of fitness, nutrition, and it was still not feeling

  65. up. Our heart is that big? Where do I get this idea?

  66. From where do I get this illustration? From very simple the word of God.

  67. It cissp to three verse eleven. It says God, he has made

  68. everything beautiful in its time. Also he has put eternity into man's heart yet

  69. so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the

  70. end. God can put something called eternity in your heart. How big is

  71. eternity? Huge? Humongous? Massive? Right? And therefore, if our

  72. heart can contain something like eternity, no matter what finite things you put in

  73. there, food, finances, uh, fitness, whatever, the fish,

  74. whatever else, all these things are finite, it will never feel a heart

  75. that is filled with eternity. Only an eternal thing, only something eternal.

  76. Someone who is internal can feel the heart. So you can feel the heart

  77. with girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse, kids, cousins, nephew, auntie,

  78. uncle, neighbors, and still it will not be full, or he will

  79. not be complete. Only God can feel a heart like that. And I

  80. tell you why that is so, Because God is intentionally designed our heart to

  81. only be filled be full with Him. Amen. Our hearts can only be

  82. complete with Him. Amen. So the first point is this, only God

  83. ultimately satisfies. Only God satisfies. Nothing else, not a great career,

  84. not a fast car, not a big fat bank account, not popularity,

  85. not three point five million forwards on the Instagram, not in all a billion

  86. robocks on your roadblocks account. None of these things. All those things are

  87. great. It makes you happy while you're here. It will last for a

  88. while, the happiness. But after a while you realize, you know what,

  89. my heart is still not feeled, because our heart is just that that

  90. bait. God has put eternity in our hearts, and only God can feel

  91. the heart. Therefore, only God can satisfy, And satisfy means made complete.

  92. Have you ever been to a buffet? Great? Your relationis you probably

  93. have been to one, I'm sure. But have you ever been to a

  94. bad buffet? That's right? Quite a few of us, right you,

  95. And you know, bad buffet or not, you're still gotta pay money.

  96. And usually because you paid money, even though you realize you know what,

  97. Wow, this is, this is a scam. I paid one hundred fifty

  98. er and gay but the food is not good. But you know I paid

  99. one hundred fifty gears. I got to eat. So you eat anyway,

  100. and you try to find you know, probably the best of the worst food

  101. that is there, okay, and you kind of just target that and eat

  102. that and fill your stomachs with that. Uh, and then and then you're

  103. likely will leave the buffet, the bad buffet full, right right, because

  104. you know, to make your money's worth. But you know there's a big

  105. difference. You can be full and still not fulfilled. That's what going to

  106. a bad buffets like. You'll leave the buffet full because you gotta make sure

  107. you don't waste money. So you eat anyway, and you leave the place

  108. so full, but not fulfilled. You're not satisfied, You're not happy.

  109. The same is with our lives. You know, our lives can be so

  110. full, full of things, full of things to do for the projects,

  111. events, programs, think, you know, just task full with people,

  112. full of friends, even maybe followers, full of so many different things that

  113. are finite. But a virtually fulfilled that is the real question. I vitually

  114. fulfilled. And the thing is this that the truth is we will never be

  115. fulfilled unless God feels it. So. Actually, our heart, what a

  116. heart is longing for is a relationship with God. What a heart is really

  117. longing for is the presence of God. We want God present in our heart,

  118. but many of us don't know it, so we think that something else

  119. can feel it, and when we realize it doesn't, we find something else

  120. to feel up the emptiness and we keep trying to feel and that's how we

  121. end up being full and still not fulfilled. Our hearts actually longs for God.

  122. The Bible says in Psalms to the self of us, for delight yourself

  123. in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

  124. When you get your desires of your heart, you will be satisfied and fulfill

  125. and you feel like you're complete. But something comes before that. Delight yourself

  126. in the Lord. Delight yourself in the Lord. It's not just like,

  127. Ah, just smile when you come to church, or just look happy,

  128. dress bride and cheerful. No. Delight yourself in the Lord is to enjoy

  129. God. To genuinely, authentically, honestly enjoy God. And that includes enjoy

  130. the things of God like coming to church, actually wanting to be here,

  131. like worshipping and singing those songs and actually wanting to and meaning them. Ay

  132. Man, God wants us to delight ourselves in Him. Because He delights in

  133. us. He wants to spend time, spend time with us. He wants

  134. to love us, he wants to give to us, he wants to bless

  135. us wife. Because God is honestly, genuinely, authentically, really delighting himself

  136. in us, and he wants to respond, He wants us to respond to

  137. him the same. He wants us to delight ourself in Him. And when

  138. we delight ourselves in Hi, where we genuinely enjoy being with God, when

  139. we genuinely enjoy doing the things that God wants us to do, when we

  140. genuinely enjoy following him, he will have no issue, no problem granting us

  141. the desires of how in fact, you know, what will happened, what

  142. might happen? Actually, when we delight ourselves in God, when we genuinely

  143. align our hearts to God, we like what he likes, we hate what

  144. he hates. We go after what he goes after. We stay ay from

  145. what he says, stay away from. When we genuinely delay ourselves in Him,

  146. we might even change the desires of heart. What we what we used

  147. to like, or what we used to want, we may not want anymore.

  148. We may not like anymore once we have spent so much time and be

  149. so intimate with God. So God knows that the key to our lives is

  150. that we learn to delight ourselves in Him. When we delight ourselves in Him,

  151. he feel our hearts. Our hearts are complete, we are satisfied.

  152. Amen, Then the true desires of heart. You know you said before.

  153. God doesn't just give us what we want. He gives us what we need

  154. need. He knows what a heart needs. Amen. You know. Matthew

  155. six twenty one says, for where your treasure is, that your heart will

  156. be. Also imagine God being your treasure. Imagine God being the thing that

  157. is worth the most to you. In fact, that's what worship is.

  158. Worship is worth ship. It's giving worth to the one you value. That's

  159. what worship is. Not just singing songs. I'm not saying don't sing songs,

  160. because he was not about songs. I'm saying worship songs is an expression

  161. of worship. When we do sing those songs, can we sing them with

  162. out all? Because God? This is out all, Because that's how much

  163. He is worth. That's where our heart will be when we treasure God.

  164. For where your treasure is that your heart will be also Amen. And when

  165. all that happens, some stony verse all reminds us with God, he will

  166. grant you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans. But it is God

  167. who will do it. Only God can grant you the desires of your heart,

  168. and only God can fulfill your plans and our plans. Like I said

  169. earlier, when we center our lives around God, our plans becomes more God

  170. centered too. And some of our plans may actually drop off because they are

  171. not God centered. You see how it works. And God is designers in

  172. such a way that our hearts need to long after him. Our hearts need

  173. to go after him. That's why he described David as a man of all

  174. the things that God can describe. David as a warrior, a worshiper,

  175. a wise, so many different things. God choses chooses the phrase a man

  176. after my own heart some of the chases after God's heart. I pray the

  177. church as we embark on this journey of learning what discipleship is, and not

  178. just learning what it is, but actually practicing being disciples of Jesus. I

  179. pray and hope that we understand is starts with our desire for God, our

  180. delight for Him, understanding that you know, you know what, any other

  181. day we are doing disciplesh it because I the other day that's what our heart

  182. really wants following after Jesus and only he fulfiels. I don't have time to

  183. elaborate on all the other points, but I would just give them to you.

  184. And I believe that just the first point is good enough for the context

  185. of UH the series on discipleship that will be coming. But besides only God

  186. satisfies, there are three other things we have to understand that only God justifies.

  187. Only God and justifies means made right. Justified means made right. Whatever

  188. your heart condition is in right now, maybe you've been hurt before. Maybe

  189. you've done Disapo discipleship before some other place and it didn't go well for you.

  190. Maybe it was too controlling, maybe it was too too liberal, and

  191. you didn't really get what the world of God means. Whatever your heart is,

  192. and maybe your heart has been hurt, maybe your heart has been broken,

  193. maybe your heart has been betrayed. God can give you a new heart.

  194. Only He can make right your heart that has been wronged. And and

  195. you know so besides God being the only one that can satisfy our heart.

  196. God is the only one that can justify our heart. He can make right

  197. our heart. He can give us a new heart. Amen. Thirdly is

  198. only God qualifies. Only God qualifies once he justifies our heart, make right

  199. our heart. Only he can make good our heart. Qualified means made good

  200. problems. One was to say, it's every way of a man is right

  201. in his own eyes. But the Lord weighs the hearts. The lord who

  202. can value the heart. It's the Lord who can make good our heart is

  203. the Lord who who can qualify your heart. So if we want a good

  204. heart, it's not just doing good things. That's part of it. But

  205. good things can only flow out of a good heart. Because a tree who's

  206. got bad roots will produce bad fruits, but good roots will produce good fruits.

  207. So a good heart will produce good things. So God can make a

  208. heart good. And we need God to kind of like turn our hearts around

  209. so that we will have a good heart and that good have produces good things.

  210. Fourthly, and the last point is this, only God beautifies. Only

  211. God can make a heart beautiful. You know, we can dress it up

  212. with whatever you can name it. You can think of whatever it is you

  213. want to dress your heart up with ministries, you know, curated Instagram polls,

  214. whatever. But in the other day, it's only God who can make

  215. a heart beautiful. You know, even even those who have been broken before

  216. can be beautiful. God can do that. Even if you're poor, God

  217. can make you beautiful, even if you have been betrayed. Only God can

  218. make you beautiful. Because the Bible says it sounds one for seven US three.

  219. He heals the broken heart and binds up their wounds. And only He

  220. can do that. Only He can do that. Amen. So only God

  221. satisfies, Only God justifies. Only God qualifies, and only Got beautifies.

  222. And why is all these things important? Because we're about to go into just

  223. learning and journeying on what discipleship really means. When we get deeper and deeper

  224. into it, you realize that, like I said, like how we started,

  225. what God wants is your heart, not just your behavior. A lot

  226. of times discipleship is kind of like focused on behaviors. Do this, does

  227. do these? Do this? Yes? Behavior is I mean if you're not

  228. doers of the word. Faith without action is dead. Our Christian life is

  229. dead without the right actions. But sometimes we focus so much on the actions

  230. we become just performance and not really follow us. And God wants us to

  231. be follow us. So yeah, a lot of times dec we focus so

  232. much on the behavior. But end of the day, what God wants is

  233. the attitude. And that's why I call it the bee attitudes of following Jesus.

  234. What is what are the kind of attitudes that we must have before we

  235. even go to the behavior, because if you get your attitude right, your

  236. heart right, your behavior will follow. So that's what we can look forward

  237. to in the weeks and maybe even months to come as we learn what Jesus

  238. means when he said come and follow me, and when he said take up

  239. your cross daily and follow me, when he said die to yourself? What

  240. is strong words? What does he mean? But it's a beautiful thing to

  241. follow Jesus. Thank you for joining us. We trust you have been blessed
