  1. Hey there, you're listening to the Generation's Church podcast. We

  2. pray that the word of God today will challenge, change

  3. and channel you into your God given destiny. Now let's

  4. get started.

  5. Today. Let's move on to the second goal.

  6. The second beattitude of this journey called discipleship and needs

  7. to become like Jesus every single day as we learn

  8. to spend time with him. What are we trying to do?

  9. We are trying to become more and more like this

  10. person we are following. I want to give you a

  11. picture Jesus's invitation of follow me. That invitation can be

  12. described this way. It's like an open door and a

  13. narrow way. Why open door. It's not a closed door.

  14. It's an open door. Why because Jesus said, whoever wants

  15. to follow me.

  16. It doesn't matter your.

  17. Your social status, It doesn't me your accolades, your medals,

  18. anyone whoever wants to come and follow me. This life

  19. of the suppleship is for anyone and everyone and whoever

  20. who wants to It's an wide open door. There's no key,

  21. there's no like knock, knock, knock, Just come in. Is

  22. an open door. Whoever, it's a door, it's open but

  23. because it's a door, there is a need to walk

  24. through it to walk into it. You can't just like

  25. that's nice, thanks, Jesus, nice phrase. Follow you Yahaha, I'll

  26. do it from here. You can't do that. You can't

  27. just like, okay, Jesus, I'll do following you from here.

  28. You gotta walk through this open door. But when you

  29. walk through this open door, you're gonna discover the way

  30. is very narrow.

  31. Open door, narrow way.

  32. Now you know what, Jesus really really needs a marketing person,

  33. a PR person, because he's definitely not selling this very well. Right,

  34. Come follow me. Your life will be hard. Come follow me.

  35. You have no place to lay your head. Come follow me,

  36. what barefoot? Come follow me the wake up early in

  37. the morning and pray three hours. He's like, how do

  38. you market that? He really needed a PR person, But

  39. Jesus did say he did say some very marketable and

  40. very p R phrases. He did say those things. I'll

  41. show them to you. He said, guys, don't worry about tomorrow.

  42. He's saying, you don't worry, be happy. It's okay, that's marketable,

  43. that's very PR nice. He also said, ask and you'll

  44. be given not and you will. It will be open seeking.

  45. You're fine, hey, very good. He also said, come, come,

  46. come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,

  47. and I will give you rests. I'll have you chills.

  48. Have you rest come to me. Oh this one is marketable.

  49. He also said, this is a good one.

  50. He's a good one.

  51. He said, I have come that you all may have

  52. life and have it to have it more abundantly.

  53. Oh, you're gonna have so.

  54. Much blessings and goodness. It's great now.

  55. If Jesus would just stop there a he didn't.

  56. He also said things like, whoever wants to be my disciples,

  57. that's a big open door. Have to deny yourself. Here's

  58. the narrow way. Take up your cross, you know the

  59. cross thing that that killed me. Yeah, take that up

  60. every day, not just set the day or Sunday, every day,

  61. and then come follow me. He also said, enter through

  62. the narrow gate. For why it is the gate and

  63. broad is the road that leads to destruction. You will

  64. actually fail, you actually be destroyed, you will actually be

  65. gone if you take this road. He means his words.

  66. He didn't make it lighter, He just went for it.

  67. Then he said but small is the gate and narrow

  68. the road that leads to life. You want to live,

  69. you want your best life. Take this small git, this

  70. small road. And then he says, only if you find it,

  71. he could really use a pr person.

  72. Ah.

  73. Look, so Jesus is saying, the lifelong journey of the

  74. supper Ship is an intentional one. One you have to

  75. choose and make decisions every day to follow. Is not

  76. always an easy one, but there's a promise. It leads

  77. to life. It leads to life, your best life. And

  78. by best life, I don't mean dream car, dream house,

  79. dream vacation. Only it means the life you are meant

  80. to live. So, friends, the past few weeks, we've learned

  81. a lot of words, Greek words, Hebrew words, English words,

  82. scientific words, psychological words. Here's a not a word, spiritual formation.

  83. This journey, this.

  84. Process, this system, whatever you're wanna call it, this way,

  85. it's called spiritual formation. Spirit doesn't mean it just forms

  86. you in the spiritual sense, but not in natural sense.

  87. Doesn't mean that.

  88. It means spirit means inside, means formation that happens from

  89. the inside out. So discipleship is becoming like Jesus, becoming

  90. like Jesus is a process, and the process is called

  91. what spiritual formation. In other words, discipleship equals spiritual formation.

  92. Spiritualformation equals becoming like Jesus equals disciple shape. But spiritual

  93. formation in the way of Jesus. You're being formed his

  94. way into his way. So discipleship is a way of life,

  95. and it is the Jesus way of life. Okay, your

  96. way of life, my way of life, His way of life,

  97. their way of life, not some guru, not some psychological expert.

  98. Is Jesus' way of life, his way of delivering offenses,

  99. his way of dealing with bribery, his way of dealing

  100. with betrayal, his way of dealing with pain and suffering,

  101. his way of dealing with love and everything else.

  102. Spiritual formation. Amen.

  103. Now we live a day and age where maybe you've

  104. been exposed, maybe you're not. Some of us have, but

  105. it seems to be a buzzword these days. Spiritual formation

  106. actually is not a very new concept. Is a very

  107. old concept way back then in the fourth century and

  108. all that they've been talking about this already spiritual formation.

  109. Now it's gonna sound like some scholars who talk like

  110. that and books who uses words like this, but actually

  111. you know what this word, this concept is in the Bible.

  112. Paul Paul is well known.

  113. He's he often talks about spiritual formation. There are some

  114. interchangeable words like renew world like transformation. Those are the

  115. words that Paul would use to describe spiritual formation. Second

  116. Corinthian Street eighteen for example. And we all with unveiled

  117. face beholding. Remember this word beholding is to look at

  118. Jesus spending time with God, enjoying him.

  119. Discipleshit beholding the glory of the.

  120. Lord are being transformed into the same image from one

  121. degree of glory. Remember, not perfection, persistent, consistency, lifelong journey,

  122. even pulsated. You get changed one degree at a time.

  123. Transformation spiritual formation. For this comes from the Lord, who

  124. is spirit efficient for twenty to twenty four. But that

  125. is not the way you learn Christ, assuming that you

  126. have heard about Him and were taught in Him as

  127. the truth is, Jesus put off your old self, which

  128. belongs to your former manner of life and its corrupt

  129. to civil desires, and to be renewed in the spirit

  130. of your minds. This means spiritual formation, being renewed, being changed,

  131. being more and more glorified, one degree after another. In

  132. the spirit of your mind, we talk a lot about

  133. the mind in the last two part, and it sounded

  134. like some psychological talk.

  135. It's not.

  136. The Bible talks about the spirit of the mind.

  137. Remember when you were told the Holy Spirit is a person.

  138. So when the Bible says spirit of the mind, we're

  139. talking about how your mind forms you into a type

  140. of person and poorly saying that spirit of your mind.

  141. Need to be renewed.

  142. You need to adjust, You need to redirect your consciousness

  143. towards God. Otherwise it's not in our autopilot moving away

  144. from God because of sin Colosure Street ten to eleven.

  145. Put on your new nature and be renewed as you

  146. learn to know your Creator and become like him in

  147. this new life. It doesn't matter if you're a Jew

  148. or gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, safe or free,

  149. open door crimes is all that matters, and He lives

  150. in all of us abiding. Finally, first May four seventy

  151. eight have nothing to do with irrelevant silly myth. Rather

  152. train yourself for all these words. Have you noticed we

  153. just be using different words. We say discipline intentional, Yeah, habitual,

  154. Paul is just using a different word. He says, Train

  155. yourself means wake, come in the morning and think about

  156. God first, go to bed at night, anything about God. Loss,

  157. Train yourself, currate your consciousness, abiding Jesus. Follow this way,

  158. turn yourself for godliness, become like God for while bodily training.

  159. All these other disciplines, intentionality, habits that you have in

  160. your life, they are good, they have some value, Pol says,

  161. But Godliness is of value. In every way you have

  162. Godliness in your life, you are a success, a preference

  163. hit above all in every area of your life.

  164. Amen.

  165. As this as it holds promised for the present life

  166. and the life to come, Paul, and Jesus is not

  167. asking you to do this discaple ship just so that

  168. you can tahan earth and go to heaven and live free.

  169. Is telling you if you live this.

  170. Way here on earth while waiting for Heaven, your life

  171. here will be the best you can live.

  172. Amen.

  173. So, spiritual formation is that process of becoming like someone.

  174. I haven't put over Jesus there yet, I'll explain. But

  175. spiritual formation as it is, is the process of becoming

  176. like someone in other whats I'm suggesting you can be

  177. spiritually formed to become like Leonardo da Vinci or Elon Mask.

  178. So in other words, it's a process, meaning if you

  179. follow a particular way over a long period of time,

  180. you become that someone. Spiritual formation is not a Christian

  181. thing only. It's not even a religious thing, although it

  182. sounds like it.

  183. It's a human thing.

  184. Spiritual formation is another word or label for the development

  185. of the soul. And if you if you study theology nowadays,

  186. there are people who tell you the soul and the

  187. spirit is actually the same thing. So those people will

  188. tell you we only have a body, and so that's it,

  189. not three parts. It's basically saying there is an external

  190. you and it there's an internal you.

  191. Okay.

  192. So spiritual formation is not a religious thing, Christian thing.

  193. Non Christians go to spiritual formation too. Atheists go through

  194. spiritual format too. Everybody goes to spiritual formation.

  195. White.

  196. Spiritual information being formed from the inside out. Amen, your

  197. soul is being developed, so spiritual information is happening.

  198. Amen.

  199. Everyone have been through, is going through and will go

  200. through spiritual formation. So a saintly person like Mother Thrisa

  201. was a product of spiritual formation but so was Hitler.

  202. They both have been spiritually formed, just very, very differently.

  203. So don't we city and think, oh, spiritual formation is

  204. for the church leaders.

  205. Oh it's for the missionaries. Oh it's them. No.

  206. No, you, while you were sleeping, you, while you were

  207. to your old kid, and have no consciousness of this.

  208. You have been spiritually formed.

  209. There is not one person in this world or in

  210. your life that is not spiritually formed. There has not

  211. been formed from the inside out to become a certain kind.

  212. Of a person.

  213. The kind of person you are today is a result

  214. and the product of all the spiritual information that has

  215. been happening in your life up till this date. You know,

  216. all of us, one day in the future, sooner than

  217. you think. One day, you're going to wake up in

  218. the morning or afternoon. For some of you, you're gonna

  219. wake up and then you're gonna realize that you have

  220. become a certain kind of dead or mom, a friend,

  221. or lover or worker or boss or human being.

  222. You're gonna wake and.

  223. Go, Wow, I am such and such a dad, I'm

  224. such a such a friend, I'm such and such a neighbor.

  225. You wake up and you realize, Hey, I've become a

  226. certain kind of person. And if we if we don't

  227. teach this or learn this, we don't know how it

  228. came about. How it came about is you were spiritually formed, amen,

  229. because that's spiritual formation. Spiritualformation is not some like new age,

  230. new new Christian things. Oh, I'm really getting the spiritual

  231. information now? And what what do they mean? They mean

  232. they're reading books on it, they're studying theology, or like

  233. now they're listening to a podcasts and or now they

  234. wake up in the morning.

  235. And if this routine and all that, all those things

  236. are good.

  237. Hm. But we feel realize we have all been into

  238. spiritual formation since before we came out of the womb.

  239. We've been we have all been becoming a person a

  240. type of person, ever since we were born. When someone

  241. says something about you and your reaction is too blank,

  242. whatever you do, that's the type of person you are, and

  243. that is the result of weeks, months and years of formation.

  244. I think we've said this several different ways already, by

  245. it's the same thing, and so I'm gonna say it again.

  246. It's not whether you're into spiritual formation or not.

  247. I'm not asking to be more spiritual than you already are.

  248. That's not necessarily what I'm saying, because it's already happening.

  249. You're already being formed spiritually, You're already being formed on.

  250. The inside out to become a certain kind of person.

  251. The key is this, as apprentices and disciples of Jesus,

  252. we need to learn to play a role. That means,

  253. instead of just letting it happen without our active involvement,

  254. we play a role, We do something about it, We

  255. get activated, we are involved. We play a role in

  256. the trajectory of our formation. If you on you're gonna

  257. be form one way, and it may not be the

  258. Jesus way. So if you want to be formed the

  259. Jesus way, you have to play a role in making

  260. sure that's the direction you're hating.

  261. Amen.

  262. So, in other words, friends, we can participate with God

  263. in our formation or we can resist and work against God.

  264. So basically, you can work with God or you can

  265. work against God. God wants to form you into more

  266. like Jesus, so you have two choices, work with him

  267. or work against him. If you are not intentional about it,

  268. you are already working against him. But to work with him,

  269. there's a part to play amen, but to play okay.

  270. So when Jesus talks about the narrow way and the

  271. broad way, he seems to be alluding to this participation

  272. from us.

  273. Which way will you choose?

  274. Will you choose the way of working with me, which

  275. is narrow, or you're gonna choose the way of working

  276. against me, which is broad? Where are you going to heat?

  277. I think he's referring to that. So the broad road?

  278. What is this broad road? Jesus gave us some clues.

  279. It's basically the road where you do whatever you want,

  280. do whatever everybody else is doing. And the Bible realises

  281. most people are on that road. The bad news is,

  282. and we don't like bad news, but the bad news

  283. is too bad news. The bad news is, if you're

  284. on that road, it leads to destruction. It's not gonna

  285. end well for you, your true person, who God created

  286. you to be. If you stay on this broad road.

  287. Every step you take on this broad road, you're being destroyed,

  288. bait by bit. Every day you're on this broad road,

  289. being chipped away your true self, who God created you

  290. to be. The longer you're on this broad road, the

  291. more destroyed you become, and the further away you get

  292. from who you are meant to be Amen. So you

  293. may be asking, ah, is that how we interpret the

  294. broad way and the narrow way?

  295. Verse?

  296. One interpretation I think we're all familiar with that is

  297. basically the broad road, which many people are on, is

  298. the road where you don't believe in Jesus.

  299. You will go to health. Destruction means hell. They're all

  300. going to hell. If you believe in Jesus. Is a

  301. narrow road. You're gonna go to heaven this one way.

  302. And most people, basically most people as we speak right now,

  303. as it stands right now, most people are going to

  304. hell based on this interpretation, right because.

  305. Few find then the narrow road. Most people go this way.

  306. Now, I don't think it's wrong to interpret that verse

  307. that way, So you're apting it based on belief and salvation.

  308. Broad is most people don't believe in Jesus, you're going

  309. to hell destruction. Less people believe in Jesus, they're going

  310. to heaven life. Great kind of propose to you that

  311. there may be another interpretation.

  312. So there's a broad road. And this broad road is broad.

  313. Because it's common, it's popular, it's easier, not so much

  314. cramping on my style, not so much. Ah, Rubbing shoulders

  315. is broad road. You can go wherever you want. This

  316. broad road is common, it's popular, it's easy. And because

  317. it's common, popular, easy, sounds good, feels good. A lot

  318. of people choose this way. But friends, it feels good,

  319. smells good, looks kind of good. Common, popular, But hey,

  320. it's leading you to destruction. The more you go on

  321. this road, the more destroy your true self is. By

  322. the time you get to the end of this road,

  323. you realize you're so so, so so so far away

  324. from who go wants you to be. And if you

  325. use this interpretation, this would mean that the.

  326. Narrow way it's not about Hell or Heaven only. The

  327. narrow way just means this.

  328. It's not common, it's not popular, it's not it's not like,

  329. do whatever you want, that's broad, do whatever you want.

  330. The narrow way is a.

  331. Very specific way to live. That's why it's narrow. That

  332. means no, no, no, no, not this way, no, no,

  333. not that way, no no, you cannot do this, no,

  334. you cannot do that.

  335. You must do this. Is that narrow Jesus is saying

  336. every other way of living does not work. Only my way.

  337. I am the way the truth in the life. No

  338. one comes to the farther except through me. It's very narrow.

  339. That's another way to interpret it. And he's saying, come

  340. follow me. What is follow me? Means follow me, stay

  341. with me, make your home in me. But it's narrow.

  342. There is if you choose this way. Nah, you can't

  343. do that. No you can't.

  344. No, you can't live that way. No you can't say that.

  345. No you can't think that way, because you must only

  346. think this way and say these things and do these things.

  347. It's narrow, doesn't make sense.

  348. Jesus is saying, there is a road, there's a path,

  349. there's a hot doss the Greek word hods way to follow.

  350. And it's based on my life, Jesus says, and my words.

  351. And if you follow this very specific way, this narrow way,

  352. when you follow behind me and you apprentice under me,

  353. you learn my art of living, and you abide in

  354. me and I in you.

  355. So I'm in you.

  356. I'm the one that influences you your decisions, your thoughts,

  357. and you spend time with me, it will lead you

  358. to life, the life that you crave, the life that

  359. you were made for. Both Now while you're on earth

  360. and also eternity.

  361. That's Jesus invitation.

  362. It's narrow, it's small, it's specific, but come because it

  363. leads to life.

  364. Amen. So you might be asking, what's this specific way?

  365. How do I do this?

  366. In other words, that question is the question of what

  367. therefore is spiritual formation in.

  368. The Way of Jesus.

  369. If Hitler was spirtually formed, if Stalin was spirtually formed,

  370. then how can I be more like Jesus?

  371. Instead? What is this way?

  372. So I borrowed the definition from the book Practicing the

  373. Way because I think it's great. It's one sentence. What

  374. it's this way is described this way. This spiritual formation

  375. is described as the process of being formed into a

  376. person of love in Christ. There are four parts to

  377. this sentence, four components you see in colors. So there

  378. is the process, there is the being formed. There is

  379. a person of love and in Christ. Spiritual formation in

  380. the Way of Jesus is the process of being formed

  381. into a person of love in Christ. In other words,

  382. if you say, pastor, I want to be a disciple

  383. of Jesus, you're saying I'm committed to the process of

  384. being formed into.

  385. A person of love in Christ.

  386. I'm saying yes to this, and every single word here

  387. is intentional, carefully chosen. Number one, let's talk about process. Remember,

  388. this journey is a process. There's no fast solution. There

  389. is no quick It's not quick. It's not fast, it's

  390. not easy, it's not linear. It can be slow, sometimes long.

  391. But whatever it is, it happens over a period of time.

  392. We just can't shortcut this process. So if you have

  393. ever in your life, ever ever taken discipleship seriously, you

  394. may experience this weird mix. This that caught to me,

  395. this tension of just being very grateful and thankful that

  396. God is doing so much in your life. But it's

  397. also this tension of life. But God, why don't you

  398. do it quicker?

  399. Why don't you make it easier?

  400. Right?

  401. Because it's a process.

  402. God is doing something in you, with both the good

  403. and the bad experiences. I grew up a very insecure

  404. person because I was small. I was shot from standard

  405. one two from five. That's eleven years and I don't

  406. know I to toe this story before when my father's

  407. not here today. But when I was very young and

  408. I wanted to talk to my father about something I couldn't,

  409. he was not in a good mood. He wanted to

  410. shut me up and said, please, don't talk now. I

  411. kept wanting to tell him about my day. To shut

  412. me up, he took the slipper and slapped me across

  413. the face, and the man on my face was there

  414. for two whole days. Imagine going to school and say

  415. I fellow my sleeper. But that did something to me.

  416. I didn't realize this until I was an adult, and

  417. I realized that, Oh now I know why growing up

  418. I didn't. I never dared speak to the point of

  419. if people ask me where you want to have lunch,

  420. I don't even dare give my opinion, because the message

  421. sent to me as a very young boy is no

  422. one wants to hear you speak. You're nothing good to say.

  423. Just shut up doing this, speaking in front of people,

  424. sometimes in front of thousands of people, is the grace

  425. of God, I tell you, grace of God.

  426. I still get nervous till today I.

  427. Get more never speaking to all of you than thousands

  428. of people in other country. Trust me, really, I have

  429. to face you again next week. So these insecurities in

  430. me is in my system and I deal with it better.

  431. I've known Jesus, I walk with him. I do with

  432. it better now. I don't take things so personally now,

  433. but there are days. There are days where I accidentally

  434. take things personally get rowled up. I'm trying to be

  435. a better father. I'm trying not to shout on my

  436. son so much. And I think I'm bringing better in

  437. that I'm more calm, But there are days. This is

  438. what it looks like if all these things in you

  439. that you're trying to you. I've been spiritually formed to

  440. be an insecure child slash adult.

  441. That's what I've been formed to become.

  442. And I don't know if I'll ever get rid of

  443. all of it. Even Paul says, I have a thorn

  444. in the flesh that God won't remove. I'm getting better,

  445. but there are days I fall, the days I fail.

  446. Persistence consistency is a journey. Remember this next libease, remember

  447. this meme. It's where I am. I'm a thousand kilometers

  448. away from where I need to be. It looks very

  449. far away. It looks impossible. It's so hard God, but

  450. look when God. Wow. But I've come a long way,

  451. so I cannot go backwards. I must keep going forward.

  452. Amen.

  453. So Philippines two twelve to thirteen says this, therefore, my beloved,

  454. as you have always obeyed, So now, not only as

  455. in my presence, but much more in my absence, work

  456. out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Now, salvation

  457. is not something you can do to get. It's not

  458. by works. It's given to you you. But now that

  459. you have it, you work it out. It's like if

  460. you have no muscles at all. So you say, let's

  461. just say, some terrible accident happened. You lost your right arm.

  462. You lost your right arm. You have no right arm.

  463. You can't go to the gym, go through machine and

  464. grow a right arm. You can't work out your right

  465. arm because you have no right arm. You can even

  466. go to the gym and work out your right arm

  467. if you have it. So salvation can only be worked

  468. out if you already have it. So get safe first.

  469. But once you're safe, you have a responsibility. You have

  470. a role to play.

  471. Amen.

  472. Most of the best things in our life is all

  473. slow dripped over a lifetime. That's why you want to

  474. get patience. It takes time. Pray for patience and go

  475. or send you the most irritating annoying friend, takes time.

  476. Get used to the fact that it takes time, and

  477. then give each other grace to be spiritually formed the

  478. Jesus way because it takes time.

  479. Let's move on formation, transformation.

  480. All these words are used by Paul and it's the

  481. word meta mophar oh for oh. It means to change

  482. into another form. You know what the English word is metamorphosis.

  483. It's the same word used in the process of when

  484. the caterpillar turns into a papa, and a papa turns

  485. into a caterpillar.

  486. Hey, sorry, a butterfly. Ah your awake?

  487. Okay, good, Let's look at this process. Okay, there's many pictures.

  488. The lib I chose this on because it tells you

  489. how many days it stays in the egg form, how

  490. many days it stays the caterpillar stage. So it's like

  491. eggs for the ten days, caterpillar eight to twenty one days,

  492. crystally six to twelve days, butterfly fourteen to twenty one days.

  493. Although one particular but the fly or the monarch can

  494. live up to two hundred days. Two hundred days, not

  495. even a year. What I want you to notice is

  496. this the lifespan of being a butterfly is generally fourteen

  497. to twenty one days. The rest of it, you put

  498. it together, egg, caterpillar, crystalis all of that. It's either

  499. just as long as the butterfly period or longer.

  500. That's the type of shit.

  501. That that that the piod of being a caterpillar, which

  502. you're just crawling around like a baby Christian, like, oh,

  503. why can I pray?

  504. Like like why can I pray like Josh yet? Oh?

  505. Why can I do Bible study? Like Athon yet?

  506. Are yo?

  507. I'm crawling over here like a caterpillar. I can't wait

  508. to get there.

  509. And and then you get put into a papa. You are

  510. like in the dark. You don't know what's going on.

  511. What is God doing to me?

  512. Is he even here? I don't hear him. I don't

  513. see him.

  514. WHOA, those are very long. It looks like nothing's happening.

  515. But you are being formed. Can you please right now?

  516. Right off the back, get used to the fact that

  517. you're going to be longer in the echt to purproperio,

  518. then you're gonna be a butterfly.

  519. Amen.

  520. So beauty is formed through and over time and process.

  521. That's what's happening while you're in the dark. That's what's

  522. happening when you're not sure what God is doing. That's

  523. what's happening. When you're inching your way into God, closer

  524. to God. That's what's happening when sometimes you fall and

  525. get up again.

  526. Beauty is being farmed. Amen.

  527. We can see God's beauty and creativity through nature and creation.

  528. Roman t.

  529. One and twenty is for since the creation of the world,

  530. God's invisible qualities, his eternal power, and divine nature have

  531. been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made

  532. his creation, so that people are were excuse. You can

  533. also use this verse for apologetic John fifteen sixteen fruit

  534. biding me, eyeing you, and you will bare fruit that

  535. will last. We're not talking about fleeting beauty. We're not

  536. just talking talking about the snowflag, snow flake and if

  537. you could see through the microscope the beauty of.

  538. It, not like come down and then it melts and

  539. it's gone. I'm talking about the kind of like.

  540. Like just once in a while, fire from the law,

  541. once in a while, kind of like we're talking about

  542. fruit that will last. That's the result of abiding in

  543. Christ persistently, consistently, you will produce fruit that will last,

  544. that will be durable. So what God is forming you

  545. through the establishing process is beauty that is durable. God

  546. wants you to be beautiful but also durable. You were

  547. last the long haul, so God wants you to be

  548. durably beautiful and durably fruitful. What took time to build

  549. can also stand the test of time, like the Grand Canyon.

  550. I don't know, we've not been there, most of us,

  551. but there's a thing of beauty. It's a it's a

  552. it's a nature like an almost freak of nature like.

  553. It took probably years and years and years and years

  554. to form, but it's not easily destroyed.

  555. It's beautiful.

  556. So that's a process process now being formed, the process

  557. of being formed.

  558. It's very intentional language.

  559. You are, you are being formed, So it's being formed

  560. versus forming yourself. This TYPUSHI is not you trying to

  561. make yourself something. You're already being formed. Another New Testament

  562. synonym for transformation is actually salvation. So just like salvation,

  563. salvation is not something we do. Salvation is something that

  564. is done to us by God self.

  565. Here is something that can.

  566. Only be done to us by God. So is discipleship.

  567. Transformation spiritual information. You are being formed. But because you

  568. are being formed, not forming yourself, you still have a

  569. role to play, just like your consciousness. Your consciousness already

  570. in something somewhere, but you can direct it. That's your

  571. role to play. Same thing here. The Bible says work

  572. out your salvation. It clearly tells you you have a

  573. role to play. Saint Augustine said this in the fourth century.

  574. Without God, I can't without him. I can't without us.

  575. He won't without him. We can't do this, but without us,

  576. he won't move. I like it in the Bahasa version too.

  577. It sounds good tampatuhan akut it ra mampu tapampaku to

  578. hunt it at mouth love. It sounds so poetic, But

  579. it's just not just poetic for you. How you understand

  580. that you have a role to play. In other words,

  581. if you make yourself wake up in the morning and

  582. rich scripture, you are playing your part and working with God.

  583. If you refuse to wake up and reach scripture, you

  584. are still being From anyway, Jesus caused the foundation.

  585. Of a spiritual journey.

  586. Poverty of spirit blessed a poor in spirit for theatre

  587. see God Poverty of spirit. This is when he says,

  588. I'm the vine, you are the branches. Without me, you

  589. can do nothing. He didn't say you can do something,

  590. cannot do something. He didn't say no. He literally said,

  591. you can do nothing. Nothing of eternal value, nothing of value.

  592. You can do nothing. You are poor, You're in poverty

  593. of spirit. That's what he's saying.

  594. But he's saying it in a good way.

  595. He's saying you can do nothing. So body mean so

  596. that it through me you can do everything. He's sitting

  597. in a good light, in a good way. So we

  598. all start from I truly have nothing. That's our spiritual journey,

  599. and it's in the poverty of spirit. Is in the

  600. positive sense of the word. It's an understanding, acceptance, awareness

  601. that I am nothing. I have nothing apart from Christ.

  602. It's a good place to start. Salvation is God's work.

  603. Salvation and transformation is God's work. Our role is to

  604. make ourselves available to God to work. When you wake

  605. up in the morning and spend time with God, that's

  606. that's not you being super spiritual. And we also clept

  607. for you and go wow, that's just going, Oh, you

  608. made space for God to move. You were available. Now

  609. God can speak us. When God speaks while you're sleeping,

  610. you cannot hear. Now that you're awake, maybe you can

  611. hear some things. But the first thing to do is

  612. wake up. So servation is God's work. Transformation is God's work.

  613. But our work our work. Our work is to be available.

  614. When you open the Bible, is not oh you so holy,

  615. you open the holy Bible.

  616. No, when you open the.

  617. Bible is okay, I'm available now God, maybe you say something,

  618. maybe something maybe, because if you don't open nothing, what

  619. about at you? The essential function of all our spiritual disciplines,

  620. wake them in the morning, going to better than readers,

  621. verse spring, speaking in tongues, worship, singing songs, all these

  622. good habits is to help you help us in our body,

  623. our mind to open deeper and deeper layers of ourselves

  624. to God for him to transform us. Heal us, free us,

  625. liberate us, save us, which is the real work. You.

  626. You can't save yourself.

  627. You can free yourself, you can liberate yourself, you can

  628. transform yourself.

  629. You do all those hard work.

  630. Pray, la, wakem in the morning, lad job lah, memorized chripture,

  631. line worship songs, la fast lave, all that just so

  632. that God can do the work. So the practices of Jesus,

  633. this way of life, this practicing, this way is not

  634. actually the Christian version of habit stacking.

  635. You hebit stacking. You start with a good habit.

  636. And then you stack out of good habits on t

  637. and then after a while you become a healthy person,

  638. a fit line. You know, you wakem the morning, you

  639. drink Vita mix la, you run lah habit.

  640. You know we're not promoting a Christian version.

  641. Oh pray lad, Then speaking tonguelund and spiritual formation is

  642. not the Christianized version of project self. It is not

  643. trying to make you a better version of you. The

  644. world can do that, but the Bible is not interested

  645. in that. Not making you to be a more patient

  646. person so the more people are like you, because if

  647. you do that, it's still about you. Hey, not saying

  648. that habits are a bad thing. I am trying to

  649. change my habits. There is power in habits. Even non

  650. Christians who do non Christian habits can become a better

  651. version of themselves. Listen, I know we've been talking about

  652. habits the past two weeks and two days two but

  653. habits are just a means to an end.

  654. Okay, ready for more shockers.

  655. Yeah, good practices, even good Christian habits like reading scripture,

  656. going to church, thank you for coming today, worship serving,

  657. all of that are good. You should do it. But

  658. those are not the end goal, which also suggests if

  659. you don't do it, you won't get your end goal

  660. at all.

  661. So do it.

  662. Your habits, however good they are, habits are not the

  663. end goal. You are not the end goal. The end

  664. of yourself is the goal. We have to come to

  665. the end of ourself. You get to a point where

  666. I'm not doing this for me. I'm not stacking chairs

  667. for me. I'm not taking this position for me. I'm

  668. not praying three hours in tongues so that I can

  669. be super more spiritual than benihen no, no, no, no no.

  670. Habits are not the end goal.

  671. You are not the end goal. The end of yourself

  672. is the goal. Pastard words is probably crazy? Are the

  673. Bible said it? Whoever finds his life will lose it,

  674. and whoever loses his life will find it.

  675. Now, reading this after all he said, doesn't make more sense.

  676. Now what Jesus meant?

  677. If you live for you, you will end up not

  678. having you, you'll lose yourself.

  679. But if you don't live for you, you find out

  680. who you really are.

  681. Strange but true, because the end of yourself is the

  682. beginning of grace. Jesus is the end goal. Jesus is

  683. the end goal. Amen Philippines three. Paul is singer. Whatever

  684. again I had, and Paul before verse seven listed down

  685. all his medals and trophies and all his three tome three.

  686. Everything he listed. Then they said all.

  687. Of that in fact actually actually translated to dot poop.

  688. All of that is like thing compare to Christ. So

  689. he's doing this for the sake of Christ, surpassing world,

  690. knowing Christ. So everything compared to knowing Christ, Pursuing Christ.

  691. Jesus is the end goal. All of this I'm doing

  692. that I may gain Christ, not a CV, not a

  693. good resume, gain Christ, be found in Him that I

  694. may know Him, become like. So I proceeds. I press

  695. on the goal for the price of the upper call

  696. of God in Christ, Jesus. That's the goal. Not be

  697. a better version of myself, but be more like Jesus.

  698. If you really understand this, it will change your life.

  699. You'll be a different kind of dad, different kind of mom, husband, wife, son, daughter, employer, employee, lawyer, engineer,

  700. but friends. It's a long, slow process of being formed.

  701. And this is like the ancient sages and saints have

  702. taught us this. There's something called active spirituality and passive spirituality.

  703. Both are good. I'm not saying passive is bad, so

  704. so don't listen from that view active spiriturity versus passive spirituality.

  705. At this, spirituality is all the things that we do

  706. to be disciples of Jesus, like spiritually disciplines, pray, worship,

  707. give serf. Active if you are actively involved. Passive spirituality

  708. is all the things that God does in us. So

  709. active is what you do, passive is what God does.

  710. Both are happening. Amen, I have an illustration. I I

  711. mean it's not the best one because at some point

  712. the analogy falls apart, but it's good to start. It's

  713. like going to the bibber. Okay, let's just assume none

  714. of you can cut your own hair like most of us. Right,

  715. you have to go through the bubble and trust the

  716. hands of the other person working on your head making

  717. you look nice. You cannot sit at home and wish

  718. and then your hair just becomes nice.

  719. You can't. You can't.

  720. Just like I want better hair, you have to wake up,

  721. get up, guarantee your car, drive through the Bible, walk

  722. through the door, pay your price, sit there, let him

  723. work on you. You get in your car going to

  724. the bibble. That's active spirituality. You sitting down and just

  725. let the barber do his magic, that's passive spirituality.

  726. Amen. I don't have a I know, I know, I know,

  727. I know.

  728. I told you it's not the perfect analogy, but I

  729. think you get the point right.

  730. It's like going to the barber.

  731. You want a more spiritual scripture example, Potter and the Clay,

  732. Potter and the Clay. Basically, God is saying, Hey, I'm

  733. the Potter, you're the Clara. Hey, why so be saying?

  734. Can the clear down the porter?

  735. What to do?

  736. Which is what we are to trying to do God,

  737. this is this is how much I'll give to you.

  738. This is how much.

  739. Hey, you are the clearer. And if God says this

  740. is beautiful, this is beautiful. If God says you have

  741. to go to the capaign to be beautiful, that's that's

  742. what it's supposed to be. Am I eighteen six Romans

  743. nine twenty to twenty one Isaiah forty five, verse nine.

  744. All that goes such it up or just google put

  745. in the clay Philippines too. Work out your servation active, spirituality, passive.

  746. It's very important to know that you have a part

  747. to play, but God is actively doing his part.

  748. Is not all you. You just have to make yourself available. Okay.

  749. What the easiest examparkt uses wake come in the morning

  750. and just be there. Like David, every day he brings

  751. cheese to the brother. Such a minute task. The brothers

  752. all the re election fighting, they wow like all boys

  753. want to be heroes, warriors, champions.

  754. David take care, shep lines time, brings che to your brother.

  755. Imagine, David said, like some of us every week, watch

  756. cheir covers every week, put up bunting every week, make

  757. coffee every week, play drum every ana.

  758. That if that day they will say.

  759. They can take their own cheese, he will not meet

  760. go Liarth And I don't know why. When you get

  761. to heaven you can ask God. I don't know why

  762. God doesn't do it on the second day. I don't

  763. know why the burning was won't happen on year one, No,

  764. has to be year forty. Why maybe something to do

  765. with process and beauty that takes time to build doesn't

  766. get easily taken away.

  767. I don't know, something to.

  768. Do with age and papa, and I don't know why

  769. God doesn't do it on the seventh Day.

  770. But weeks and months, I don't know.

  771. How long of taking bread and cheese, doing the same thing,

  772. being faithful, faithful, mundane. Then God shows up suddenly and

  773. he meets go Li Earth, He kills Go Li Earth.

  774. Rest is history. Joseph David Samson. Everybody, have you not learned?

  775. Amen? Thank you Jesus, who's very important. It's very important

  776. that we become.

  777. Disciples of Jesus because this is his invitation, this is

  778. his awful, this is him saying, if you live this way,

  779. it will lead to life.

  780. Amen.
