The Be.Attitudes of Following Jesus Series - Part 4B: Behave Like Jesus (Do As Jesus Did) | Andy Yeoh

Hey there, you're listening to the Generations Church podcast. We

pray that the Word of God today will challenge, change

and channel you into your God given destiny. Now, let's

get started.

Today is the eighth week, but it's part four B,

and then in the next coming weeks one, two, three,

more weeks we will continue a bit more. All right, great,

so okay, let's finish Part four B. Making space for

the Gospel? What does it? What does it mean? Being hospitable,

loving your neighbor, just love? Second party? Is preaching the gospel?

Somebody say, preaching the gospel? Yeah, yeah, we want to

preach the gospel. Isn't that just for past us? Isn't

just that? It isn't just isn't that just for the

those popular American people like you know, they hold of

mine and they talk and they're very good at it.

Not me not. Do you know everyone is preaching gospel.

You are preaching gospel er gospel, I said, everyone is

preaching a gospel. Preaching the gospel is a New Testament language, yes,

but it has over time become unpopular, just like the

word disciple, sheep, just like the word giving and tithe

and leadership and serve because it's been manipulated and abused.

So we don't like sometimes those words anymore, like preaching

the gospel. Why because some people have done it very badly?

Hey man, so I really would. I think we can

understand why we sometimes avoid these words. But I want

to just want to bring us back to its original intention.

Some of us may even have developed subconsciously and unhealthy

apprehension preach gospel. I'm not gonna do that to my friends,

that thing that the world hates. I'm not gonna do that.

So PASSI please stop telling me to preach the gospel. No,

I'm gonna tell you the preacher gospel because the Bible

asks us to amen. And maybe because we live in

a very pluralistic culture. Everybody believes in something. Oh, let's

respect everybody's believe and let's not preach our gospel. Know,

the thing is, everybody is preaching a gospel. They may

want to say to you, you believe what you believe.

I believe what I believe. You keep you keep your

belief to yourself, just shut up and just don't bring

you out to the public. They may want to say that,

But the thing is, every single person in the world

is preaching a gospel, whether it's the Gospel of Jesus

Christ or the Gospel of anti racism, it's the gospel,

or the Gospel of Black Lives Matter BLM, or the

Gospel of Apologina Mau. It's a gospel. It's a message.

It's a narrative that is being spread, used to convince

and persuade and to shift your choices and your votes,

isn't it true? Or the Gospel of pride, and by pride,

I don't mean proud, I mean pride. It's a gospel.

You know how many people believe in this gospel? Now

it's a gospel. Or the Gospel of democracy, or the

gospel of socialism, or the gospel of physcal conservativism, or

the gospel of therapy and trauma informed therapy or natural

medicine versus synthetic medicine, or the gospel of winter swimming

and cop plunging, or the gospel of psychedelic mushrooms, or

the gospel of habit stacking, or the gospel of running

in the morning, or whatever. It's all as we are

all preaching a gospel. Everyone everyone's talking about where they

believe Beside them, hope lies I'm preaching a gospel recently,

been preaching a gospel about staying fit. We kept early

in the morning and run because I believe it. I

belief this where hope lies that will give me a

longer lifespan to enjoy my children. Whatever we're all so,

please please don't tell me or your friends Nolah, I

cannot preach the gospel. You are already preaching one. Everybody's

preaching something. So the followers of Jesus are just I'm

gonna the follows are just people who preach the gospel,

Oh Jesus. And by the way, it should flow naturally,

because when you like the chocolatel that you like, nobody

has to force you. See June, why didn't you talk

about with it? And you like, I never heard you

talk about it before. If you really, you really chalk

it away, nobody has to force you, it will flow naturally.

My my, my family, and I recently came here from

lang KHAUI some of you know, because you follow social media,

we put up some stuff. You saw it, you will ask, hey,

how was lang Kahwe I found myself advocating lang Khawi.

I'm like, it's a great place of family, holiday. I'm serious, Like,

you know what, I would tell you, go to Kluk

and just buy the voucher. The past is really really good,

it's really cheap. It's worth it. You see, I was

pretty excited about our recent holiday, so some it flows naturally, right.

Remember the last movie you watched It was really awesome,

remember the holiday spot. Yeah, we like talking about what

we love. A good film, a good TV series, a

good book, an amazing podcast, a good holiday, sport, good food.

You know why, because it's a deep human impulse to share.

It's not fun alone. Yeah, most ladies who notice, like

one of your highlights of the day is to come

home and tell your husband every day and your but

your husband comes home with a summary, how was your day? Great?

But hey, it's in it. It's an impulse. It's we're

built to share. It's like we want to share something

beautiful or what we think is beautiful, what we think

is good and true that we have discovered. Yeah, it

is the need to share. Your whole social media algorithm

is creator based on that. That's why there's a share button.

They studied you. They know how your brain works, and

they keep pushing stuff to you. The more you share,

the more they push. So I go to Instagram, I

see a lot of socks. I know you've been looking

thinking about socks. Right, And so the social media people,

they know human psychology. We are created to do that,

so they keep feeding you. So it's already natural, my friends,

It's already natural sharing something we enjoy something, sharing something

we like, sharing something that we are blessed. Why. It's

like sharing a part of yourself when you really study it.

The reason you share, because you're really sharing something's like

I'm sharing part of my happiness with you and sharing

part of my joy here. It's powerful. Amen. It almost

like it gives the thing that we are sharing. Whether

it's like, hey, go to eat the white white curry

noodles super good, It's like it gives the thing even

greater meaning and significance, especially when the other person tries

and says, you're right, it's very good. Right. So, preaching

the Gospel for a believer a disciple is like an

impulse that the Spirit of God is trying to let

out of our hearts, our spirits, our bodies. Amen, even

against overwhelming cultural, external or even internal pressure for us

to suppress it, you do feel attention. You do you

know what I'm talking about, right? You know there's pressure

to say shut up, keep quiet, keep your believe to yourself.

But something is that you're like, but I got a share.

This is so wonderful, is so great, it's amazing. But

we ultimately, ultimately as disciples, need to let it out

or we will always feel a lack, we will always

feel short change. Frank l back, he's a prominent missionary intelligence.

He teaches this. Okay, so everybody's in vanogizing, everybody's spading

a message. That's what a gospel is. A message. Yeah,

it's a message of like what we believe, where what

we believe to be true and good and beautiful, and

where hope lies the meaning of life, the purpose of life.

We're all preaching that. So follows Jesus, those who preach

his gospel. It should flow naturally to possess God. Frank

Labac says, you have to give him away. It's the

crazy paradox contradiction of the gospel. He who keeps his

life will lose it. Who loses his life will have it. Right,

Jesus says, to actually possess God, you have to give

him away. It's like he says, he explains the week

with failures and success. Suys has taught me one new lesson.

It is this, I must talk about God or I

cannot keep him in my mind. I must give him

away in order to have him. That is the law

of the spirit world. What one gives, one has. What

one keeps to oneself, one loses. Amen. I don't know.

I don't know how theologians will well, will like or

not like what I'm about to say. But you know,

I see this picture right If if this congregation, this

church is being fed right out, I'm feeding you. If

you're being fed right now, then you're getting nutrins right,

like good stuff. If you don't exercise it, you will

become obese. Yeah, that's why. Narrow is the gate that

leads to life, and broad is the gate that leads

to destruction. If you're OBEs, you can't go to the

narrow gate. So you're stuck in the church forever, just

stuck in the four walls. Can get out, Just sit

here and eat some more, and eat some more, and

eat some more. No, no, no, you're meant to exercise,

You're meant to receive and give away. Amen. Give. If

you want to experience God, you have to give him away.

You have to tell people about him. You have to

share him as you tell people. As you tell people

about him, you would discover him all over again. Afresh.

I'm pretty sure you've experienced this before. You discover something,

you share and you're like as you share, you're like wow, wow,

And I didn't realize, and you got that way. It's

the lord of the pretty world. You can keep it

to yourself. You become obese Christians, befit once finally demonstrating

the gospel. So we got the preacher, We got the share.

Whether you share through your words or you share a post,

preach the gospel. It's got to be shared. It's got

to be spoken off. It's got to be told some

one way or another man. And thirdly, is demonstrating the gospel.

Jesus didn't just talk. He demonstrated yes or no. Yeah.

He would talk, and then he would go and do

the things that he talked about, and then he would

explain what he just did. He will heal the sick,

he will prophesy, he'll deliver people from demonic spirits. He'll

stand up against political injustice and oppression. He will speak

the truth. He will do these acts that demonstrated the

Kingdom of God. When he healed the sick, he's demonstrating

this is what the kingdom is like. When he stood

up against political injustice, he's demonstrating what the King of

God stands for. When he was kind to the oppressed,

he was demonstrating the king of God. You get it,

you get a picture. He's always demonstrating. Jesus demonstrated the

Kingdom of God, breaking in not just in talk, but

in action. Kingdom of God. Our preaching of the Gospel

must also accompany our demonstrating of the Gospel of vice versa.

When we preach, we need to also demonstrate. So don't

just say God is love, demonstrate that God is love. Man.

This sounds like a lot to do with our pastor.

I mean Jesus full time. You know, only did was

preaching the gospel. And gospel wasn't a He wasn't an accountant,

he wasn't a ceo. He didn't run his company. He's

on a mode of five. Not true. He was a carpenter,

hang on, a fisherman. We all got our stuff. But

we can preach and demonstrat the gospel where we are Amen. Oh,

my Pasta, I'm not cut out for this. Sounds like

such a huge responsibility. Is this even possible just casually

talking to one friend one about the gospel. It's already

so overwhelming, so scary. How can I behave like Jesus?

Hopefully this next part will help you. Thomas Kelly was

a Quaker educator. He wrote a book called Testament of

Devotion and in that book, the last part of the book,

he introduced a concept called the joyous burdens of Love.

Joyous burdens of love. It's a burden, it's a joyful one,

and it's motivated by love. What does this mean? He

explains that the heart of God is universal, meaning God's

heart is for everybody. Red and yellow, black and white.

They are precious in his sight, everyone, no matter who

you are. God's heart, his love is for everyone. But

that universal heart of God click again, comes through the particular.

It's universal, but the channel, which is it comes through

its particular. We are particular because we all particles. We are.

But okay, yeah, you're getting right. We are not God.

We are not omni present. You are in one place

and one time. Your mind can go different places, but

you are one place, one time. You are particular. We

are not infinite, we are finite. We're not immortal. We

are mortal. So God's universal goodness, heart, love, faith, joy,

grace comes through the particular. So the office in which

you work, that's where God's universal power and love can

come through you in that office space, with that community.

It comes to that. Yeah, we can't express all of

the heart of God to all people everywhere, all of

the time. We can't do that because we are so

incredibly short lived. We are limited. We are mortal in

our body. So God therefore gives everyone a particular, joyous

burden or burdens of love. So it's not a burden

in a negative sense like oh it's a burden, I

don't carry it. But it's a thing a passion, a pool,

an attraction, a hunger, a desire to see change that

God puts on your heart. Yeah, and that they can

be very very day to day examples of this, for example,

and when it just this this feeling or this thought

that drops on your heart to say, call a neighbor

or a friend, or to check in on somebody, you know,

that's struggling, or to drop a gift for someone, or

to send a thank you note, or to send a text.

That little thing that's called the joyous Noah, God of

eight billion people in the world, God put it on you.

I'm going through my day and the name drops on

my heart and I go, Yo, how are you. I

don't know about all your other your friends, la, I

don't know about them. I can speak for them. I

can speak for myself. When I text you and ask

you how are you? I am really asking how are you?

Don't just tell me okay, because that's not an answer

you can say, pastor I'm okay. I'm thinking about the

rest of my answer. Can you give me time. I'm

okay with that. You can take a week to answer me.

But I want you to know when I say, yo,

how are you? I mean it. When I say I

didn't see you in church last Saturday, I am I'm

not concerned about attendance. I know showing up in church

is not the measure of your spirituality. I know that

we've been preaching seven weeks about this. I really think

you're missing, like this picture is missing. Where were you? You? Okay,

You're all right? And if your answer is I was

in Timbuktu doing missions. Sure, no different feeling. If you

told me past that I was just lazy, I still

miss you. I might be wondering if you answer to

be like, oh what's there? What come? Missions? Are you

doing there? And if I'm just lazy, I'll be wondering,

Oh what happened? What are you lazy? That's all I

urged all of you to do the same with the

people in your life, because you know why. I can

only text so many people in a day or in

a week, and I can't keep up. How long have

you ever experienced this? I text you in the morning,

how are you? And I replied the next day, Yeah,

because I texted thirty five people. You get what I'm saying.

If you help me and I help you, the whole

just covered. Everyone gets a text, everyone gets a call,

everyone gets a coffee, everyone gets I dream of that

church where it's not just one to twenty percent doing

eighty percent of the work. Aymen, eighty percent at least

doing the work, and it feels that we're all just

doing twenty percent. That'd be awesome, but it's called the joyous.

Oh past, am I supposed to warm water? Am I

supposed to throw on in? Why I'm supposed to? No?

Why don't you spend time you got and ask God? God?

What joy is burden of love have you put on

my heart? Because? Friends, very simple. No one can do everything,

but everyone can do something. Hey, no one can do

even I can do everything. No matter how much you

pay me as a full time pastor, I still can't

do everything. But everyone can do something. So let's discern.

Let's ask yourself as you think about how you're gonna

demonstrate the gospel, whether it's to a call, a text

of visitor, gift, or whatever. What is the gift that

the spirit of Jesus is wanting to bring to the

wider world through me? What is my unique contribution? And

everybody is different. Some of you cook really well, so

you can't cook for to save your life. Cody asked

me to night, how do you talk to children? I'll

be I can teach you, but you know what, some

people just can't. And it's okay because we need people

who talk to old people too. We need people to

talk to weird people, normal people, abnormal people, all guinds

of people. Let's all walk. But I appreciate that we

all learn, we all try and right, So so I

gave you an answer, and then part of the answer

was like, but some people just have it, and if

you know you have it, don't sit on it. If

you have a gift of organizing, that's your unique contribution

to the world. If you have a gift of administration,

that's your unique contribution. At the word, but it's not sexy,

nobody s nobody puts spreshiess on the stage. Please don't

we all fall asleep, but we need those threadsheets. Ay man,

But what's your unique contribution? What's your joys? But now

love see it's a burden. It's a burden, not in

a bad way like I'm so stressed and burn out.

It's like this is to be done, okay, and pleaser

as a preciser. Don't be one of these modern people

who think like, oh, therefore anything that's anything your stress

or it's not. Gods say, must be joyful. One they

which parner who love your children to be busy and

will give your love your children. You don't feel stressor

of course if you say it's the joyous, it said

that it's the kind of stress that makes you do

something about it, not that kind of stress that makes

you go to the corner and be depressed. And I

hate children, I hate you. Already disappear. If you think

there is a barn, you need help, you need a

whole lother kind of help. But hey, please don't think that.

Just because it's a joyous but of love, there should

be no stress. No, it just means it's the kind

of burden you want when you want to build myselves?

Don't you go to the gym? And by definition are

you not carrying a burden? It's literally what it is?

A burden? A wait, yes, sometimes you wake, come and

go why am I doing this to myself? The runner's right,

wake in the morning, six am, run fifteen km? Why

are we doing this to ourself? What you do it? Anyway,

it's a joyous burden that you know that at the

end of this, especially over a period of time, there

is a reward. You're healthier, your pace is faster, your

heart is stronger, whatever are It's a joyous vanla. So

it is not entirely stress free. It's not comfortable. Oh

pasta say so my contribution is competition? Sit down, No,

it's contributing So it might be small, it might be humble,

It might have to be It might have to do

with your work or your job, not in church. It

could be in your office, your job, your business. It

might have to do with a volunteer act. Maybe where

you find your joys, but of love, it's not in

your job. Maybe your joy is just to feed mouths,

to put a roof over my head. But you know

where I really come alive. Oh no, Saturday morning or

Sunday morning, I go give you she there. It could

be there and that's not paying me. That's okay. You

might have to do with your family. Some of you.

Your calling is to serve your family. That's legit, that's holy.

Some is parenting. Some is to be I don't know

your neighborhood, your school. Just be intentional because a lot

of us just shot at work and just wait for

the weekend or wait for something. But God gives us all.

Everybody here one, two, three, some more a number off

the joyous burden of love. It will ultimately be a joy.

You'll be stressed out sometimes, you want to put your

hair out sometimes, but when you look at it all

as a whole, you're like, yeah, it's worth it. It's joyful.

That's why I'm still with Kenjre a very good teams,

still doing youth ministry. I've lost a lot of hair,

but I still I still love it. This is mine

joyous burden of love. Yeah, so guys, it will ultimately

be a joy. It won't. It won't be full of

stress all of the time. If it is, you gotta

re check. Maybe you're not in the right fit. And

it's okay. In this church, you want to make sure

people are in the right fit. If you're not a

people person, it's okay. Hend the machines, press buttons, all right,

because ultimately your button will help people. Ma. But let's

all pay attention God, what burden have you put on

my heart? The only thing I ask of you is

don't sit on it. Don't be afraid of the work,

because this would be meaningful work, ultimately joyful kind of work.

You know, right? God created us to work. I mean

just by definition, like look at the number, like six

day work, one day rest, your creatical work. So pay

attention to those joys when our love those signs are

like God's signpost to the call of God on your life. Amen.

Like again, I repeat myself. That's not to say God

won't challenge you to do something uncomfortable or difficult. He

most likely and most often will, because God is ultimately

after your character, not your comfort. There is no growth

if there is no challenge or this comfort. There's just

no growth. Amen. But even if it's uncomfortable or challenging

or difficult at times, there will still be joy and

peace in the midst at the end of it. So

pay attention to those as disciples. Community is imperative. We

cannot do this alone. That's why I believe in the

church so much. I don't know where you are right

now with church again, church is nothing on the redeem

No like church become a bad word. That's where people

get disappointed. Line people, that's where no leaders fall up.

Not really, not necessarily because as this suppose, community is

imperative because no one can do everything. You can't safe

and change the world by yourself. We need each other

because as individuals we cannot fully express the fullness of

the heart of God. But the Church together can one

of the most immediate expressions we can all try. This

is you can by UK's for you, Ma. Somebody need

to run it. Man somebody to go and pray for you.

Somebody need to go and catch the teams when pray

will fall out, somebody need to catch them. Somebody needed

to cook, somebody needs to be somebody need to be security.

And you need to be adults because curage me to

your boy and go to sleep. It's the rule. And

you go to sleep, you think the Sax thing. Oh

we're gonna listen now, No, we need a Josh uncle

something like that that we need everybody you can for this.

It's a great it's a great place to practice this.

That's what I told. There's a parent who asked me,

can I come to the camp? I say, oh, your

parent can, but you cannot come as a parent. If

you come as a parent, then you will be like,

why is there a parent here? You come as a volunteer.

I'm a parent too, am I not? But do you

look at me a parent? No, I'm pastor I'm pretty

ser So if you're a parent, you want to come

and watch your kid, come now, but come and stand

behind the gent show table and watch not your kid.

Oh he's going you know he went to collect. No,

I had the joy of that last year. My son

was there. And yes during the BGR or the sex stop, yeah,

my my my wife took my son away because he

ain't ready for that. That's okay. But all the call

without being prompted, without being asked. I'm living worship. I'm

crying my eyeballs. I opened my eye. My son's there, oh,

by himself. I'm telling you who it's worth it worth,

it's worth doing. And so hey, if you're a parent,

you wanna come to, you can keep my eye on. Come,

but don't come as a parent. Officially as a volunteer.

I'm a marshall got wesel oh, I'm I'm here to

run the shop. So nobody's too money. You jug out

the money if we quite elaborate. That's so we need

help our talk shoper in camera. It's not like selves.

I'm goola gola. If we got Ordain got Barista coffee,

I wonder what else you see what happened? I don't know.

We've got Fred Chicken. Last time, we all like we

got old day Old. Never mind, he's got Tom you

Slaver got original flavor. Family might also lose first time

in a Ukema. Our CRUs can all sell. If you understand,

you can cut moror is always the number one seller.

Last say why you can go all? Then why I

love for the fishball and the craftick young people, so smart,

fresh and more hot. Anyway, I was supposed to say

all that at the dialogue Nema. But as individuals we

cannot allow. Together we can amen. We each play the

part that we're given by the joyous budness of love.

Some youth, some senior, some craft, some administration, some finances,

some whatever are as. We play our part in demonstrating

gospel we trusted. The heart of the Father is being

expressed to the people around us. Just play your part,

Just play your part. Let me end with this Teresa

of a Fela. She said this, She wrote this poem.

Christ has no body but yours, no hands, no feet

on earth. But yes, you are the eyes with which

he looks compared on this world. Yours are the feet

with which he walks to do good. Yours are the

hands we reach. He blesses all the world. Yours are

the hands. Yours are the feet. Yours are the eyes.

You are his body. Christ has no body now but yours,

no hands, no feet on earth, but yours yours. Okay,

it's repeats. Ah, how do you remember this? Then I

give you one liner. Christ has no body now but yours.

Go out and be Christ's body to the world. Again.

Theologist might cringe at this, but it makes sense to me,

so I'm gonna say. The Bible says that by his

stripes we are made whole, we are healed. The stripes

is on his head or his body, his body, and

the Bible described that Christ is the head of the

church that makes the church. What the body that carries

his stripes. So who heals the world? Who's responsible to

make the world whole in a better place? The body

the us, You the eye. Christ has bull body now,

but yours. Go out and be Christ's body to the world. Amen.
