  1. Hi, and welcome to the Willow Ridge Church weekly podcast.

  2. This is where you can find audio for our current and past sermons.

  3. We hope that you enjoy this week's installment, and be sure to check back next week to hear

  4. the latest message.

  5. Thanks for listening.

  6. Well, good morning.

  7. Glad that y'all are here with us.

  8. If you've got your Bibles, open up to Luke chapter 19 is where we're going to be as we

    Luke 19 chapter mention

  9. continue our study in the Gospel of Luke.

  10. As you turn there, I just want a couple of other things.

  11. If you are a first-time guest, here's what I'd love for you to do.

  12. Find me before you leave here.

  13. I'd love to meet you, learn your name, have a conversation with you.

  14. If you've got any questions about Willow Ridge Church, I would love to answer those.

  15. And so please take the time to do that.

  16. If you are a visitor, I would love to introduce myself and have you introduce yourself to me

  17. today.

  18. Now, as we get into Luke 19, I want to lead off in this.

  19. All right, I'm going to be brief today.

  20. I know some of you are thinking, yeah, right, but I'm going to do my best.

  21. All right, I'm going to do my best to be brief.

  22. And here's the reason why.

  23. We've got Hans and Brandy Ostrom and their family with us.

  24. In fact, if you'll notice on the seats around you, there's a prayer card, hopefully on all

  25. of them, and even some stickers that are there.

  26. And they are missionaries, missionary family that we support as at Willow Ridge Church.

  27. And Hans sent me a message about a month ago where they were going to be here in South

  28. Carolina, which is their home state where they're from.

  29. They were going to be here and wanted to be able to spend some time worshiping with our

  30. congregation and give just some encouragement, some thank yous, some updates on what ministry

  31. is looking like in Canada right now.

  32. I know this last year has been a crazy year for all of us, but when you really look outside

  33. of a lot of where other people were having to go through and deal with in other countries,

  34. we really see that a lot of places are handling this in a harsher way than we are.

  35. The Ostrom family has had to walk through that, not only in ministry, but just in day-to-day

  36. life as they raise their family.

  37. And so we are blessed to have him here, to have them here.

  38. So Hans will be up at the very end.

  39. So, all right, so here's some instructions for you, all right?

  40. So stick with me on this.

  41. I'll preach, close up, we'll sing two songs.

  42. I know that you're thinking at the end of that second song, like, I got to get to San

  43. Jose, all right?

  44. Pause.

  45. Hans is going to come up at the end of that, and then there will be plenty of chips and

  46. salsa for everybody at San Jose's afterwards, I promise.

  47. So just patiently, patiently wait.

  48. So Luke 19, I'll tell a story last night.

  49. Those of you who know me and know me well, you know I love my South Carolina Gamecocks.

  50. And you know that that relationship with my South Carolina Gamecocks is troubled at times.

  51. And I love all things South Carolina sports.

  52. I love all things Gamecocks.

  53. And so right now, if you're not a big sports fan or you're not a big college baseball fan,

  54. you might not realize that right now is the opening weekend of college baseball's postseason.

  55. And so South Carolina is hosting a regional, even though we're not a one seed.

  56. We can get into that later.

  57. All right, but we are hosting.

  58. And last night, we were playing Old Dominion, who is the number one seed in the Columbia Regional.

  59. And it's a tight game.

  60. The score's tied one to one.

  61. Old Dominion lost two to one.

  62. They won two to one, broke my heart.

  63. But in the sixth inning, the game is tied one to one.

  64. And a pop fly is hit.

  65. And a pop fly is hit to the third baseman for South Carolina.

  66. And you can tell the moment that the ball comes off the bat that it is a high pop fly.

  67. Like, this isn't a pop fly that looks like your dad kind of underhanded to you, you know.

  68. Like, this is a pop fly that has just caught the top portion of those metal bats.

  69. And it is shot straight up in the air.

  70. And you see the third baseman.

  71. You see him immediately call it, this is mine.

  72. And then you begin to see him move around and stumble and almost look like he's going to fall.

  73. And then at the very last second, he kind of regathers his base for his feet underneath him.

  74. And then the ball falls about two feet away from his glove before he could grab it.

  75. In my heart, right, as a guy who invests way too much time, energy, and passion into this athletic ability of 18 to 22-year-olds fell apart in that moment, right?

  76. I absolutely lost it because it's a pop fly and he missed it.

  77. He missed it.

  78. He is a D1 college athlete and he missed it.

  79. Now, he didn't miss it because his glove faltered.

  80. I don't know if you've ever had that happen, but sometimes the webbing in your glove can stretch out and literally a baseball can fall right through your glove.

  81. But that didn't happen to him.

  82. He didn't miss it because his glove faltered.

  83. He didn't miss it because another player came up and tripped him up.

  84. If you've ever played baseball or softball, like you know that happens sometimes, right?

  85. You're saying I got it, the other player's saying that they got it, and all of a sudden you collide and you run into each other and the ball falls right there.

  86. That didn't happen either.

  87. He didn't miss it because he had to run a great distance.

  88. This wasn't a dead sprint to shallow left field.

  89. This wasn't a sprint over to the opposing team's dugout and try to stretch at the last moment.

  90. He literally, from the positioning that he started out into the positioning where he was when he missed it, was only a couple feet.

  91. If he'd have done this from the very beginning, he'd have caught it.

  92. So what happened?

  93. I've been watching this team all year.

  94. This third baseman has phenomenal discipline.

  95. He's got phenomenal footwork.

  96. Everything about what he does shows great discipline.

  97. He is a trained Division I athlete.

  98. And as I'm going through all of this within five seconds and trying for God to redeem the moment for me, right?

  99. I heard the announcer come across and say that ball went so high up into the lights that what he was having was a hard time seeing it.

  100. And because he couldn't see the ball clearly, he missed it.

  101. You know, it wasn't because he was lazy.

  102. It wasn't because he didn't want to catch the ball.

  103. It wasn't because he hadn't been trained and people hadn't poured into him.

  104. It's just that in the moment when his eyes were trying to be fixed on the ball, they got lost in something else that consumed him, that took his eyes there.

  105. And then that which he was told, that which he was instructed to have his eyes locked in on, he just simply missed it.

  106. He made an error.

  107. And it ended up not being the reason that South Carolina lost the game, but in the moment, he missed it.

  108. But what in the world does this have to do with anything, right?

  109. I think that there's many people, many people who may be here today, many people who may call themselves Christians,

  110. many people for thousands of years, that when it comes to Jesus and the gospel, they've heard, they've been instructed, they've been taught,

  111. they've been given God's word, but they've missed it.

  112. They've missed it.

  113. I've shared with you guys this so many times, that's the burden of my heart.

  114. We're going to hear a lot about international missions and what God calls us to do and to go out.

  115. Dealing with lost people and sharing the gospel is always complicated and context matters, okay?

  116. And so I've been to places like India and shared the gospel with people who have never heard the name of Jesus before.

  117. And I love that.

  118. And that's filled with its own difficulties in trying to understand and communicate the gospel.

  119. But then I also come back into a culture that if you've never lived outside of South Carolina or Lexington or even the greater part of the area of the United States,

  120. what we refer to as the Bible Belt, that there are people who would culturally align as Christians.

  121. There are people who within surface level behaviors would align themselves with saying that they are a follower of Jesus Christ or I love God or something just in a general statement with that.

  122. But when it comes to Jesus and the gospel, their eyes have been distracted by something else.

  123. And in that moment, they miss it.

  124. They miss it.

  125. And for so many people, I had a conversation with a young man who was visiting our church after the 930 service.

  126. And he came up to me and he was sharing a little bit about who he is and getting to meet him.

  127. And it's a wonderful time to meet him.

  128. And he asked me a question about myself.

  129. And it led me to tell him the journey of me, of being raised in church and for 22 years of my life completely missing it.

  130. Doing the things, going to the camps, making decisions, filling out cards, but yet missing it.

  131. And here's why I think so many people miss it.

  132. And this is what I want us to really work through this morning.

  133. And I'll get going, I promise.

  134. But here's what I mean.

  135. That for so many people, Jesus simply becomes a means to an end.

  136. They're told that hell is terrible and you don't want to go there.

  137. And that's true.

  138. And they're told that Jesus is the way for not going there, which is true.

  139. And then their response, their reaction to that is, well then, if that's bad, if he's the way out of the bad, then I'll take Jesus.

  140. If that's the option, then just give that to me.

  141. And then we walk away from there missing the fullness of the truth of the gospel.

  142. Yes, it is true that hell is not where you want to go.

  143. That hell is eternal punishment within there and destruction.

  144. And that Jesus is the only way to be not there.

  145. That's the truth of it all.

  146. But there's so much more of what the gospel wants to do in our life, of what the gospel wants to transform in us.

  147. And so what I want us to begin to wrap our minds around is we're going to look at a couple things this morning.

  148. Is that the gospel, yes, it changes our eternity.

  149. But the gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of men and women who are found in Christ, it changes our today.

  150. Everything about of who we are.

  151. When we are saved by the gospel, our eternal destination is changed.

  152. But also our current lives are transformed and the purpose of what God gives us is changed as well.

  153. Because when men and women and children are changed or saved by the gospel of Jesus Christ,

  154. our eyes and our hearts are open to the fact that we are a sinner who is incapable.

  155. Not who can't figure it out, but who's incapable of saving ourselves.

  156. So what we need is Jesus who saves us, who restores us, who redeems us,

  157. who brings us into relationship with God, who sends us the Holy Spirit, who indwells in us.

  158. I heard a pastor say one time, and I love this and repeat this so many times in my mind,

  159. that God loves you too much to save you from your sin and then leave you in it.

  160. And he wants to restore us so that the person that we were is no longer the person that we are.

  161. And so things in who we are and what we're about begin to change.

  162. Before we get into Luke 19, I just want to read a couple passages to you.

  163. Galatians 2.20.

  164. I've been crucified with Christ as no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me in the life.

  165. I now live in the flesh.

  166. I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me.

  167. 2 Corinthians 5.17.

  168. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is the same person that he was before.

  169. No.

  170. If anyone is in Christ, Scripture says he is a new creation.

  171. The old has passed away.

  172. Behold, the new has come.

  173. And so here's my concern for those of us who would culturally just align ourselves and say,

  174. yeah, I'm Christian, right?

  175. Is that if we miss who Jesus is, if we miss what Jesus came to do,

  176. if we miss the commands and not the suggestions of the gospel,

  177. then we ignore all of this, and then Jesus just becomes the means to the end for us.

  178. And our lives are not submitted and surrendered to him in our life, and we miss it.

  179. So I want to ask you this question as we get into this.

  180. Are you missing it?

  181. Are you missing it?

  182. And there's been people who have surrounded themselves around Jesus for thousands of years

  183. who have missed it.

  184. Look at verse 37.

  185. As he was drawing near already on the way down the Mount of Olives,

  186. the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice

  187. for all the mighty works they had seen, saying,

  188. Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.

  189. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.

  190. And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him,

  191. Teacher, rebuke your disciples.

  192. Verse 40.

  193. And he answered, I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.

  194. So I want us to look at one thing, because we've got to work through this,

  195. but just one thing within this.

  196. So the picture that we see is Jesus and the whole multitude of the disciples.

  197. So this is all of them.

  198. And they're walking and they're journeying with Jesus,

  199. and they're celebrating him, what Luke's gospel says,

  200. because of the works they'd seen.

  201. So as they're talking around, they're praising God,

  202. because did you see what Jesus did when he healed that man?

  203. Did you see what Jesus did when he called the dead girl back to life?

  204. Did you see what Jesus did when he cast out the demons?

  205. Do you remember what it's like to see Jesus when he fed the thousands?

  206. Like you've got all of these conversations that are happening and that are taking place,

  207. and the people are celebrating all that God has done.

  208. And this is like this joyous time within him of this.

  209. This is exciting.

  210. They can't believe that this is all going on.

  211. Now let's put this in the context of what is happening.

  212. This is the Passion Week of Jesus headed to the cross.

  213. And so when I read this, it seems a little weird to me.

  214. Because Jesus is headed to die.

  215. And they've been told that.

  216. Jesus has said, I'm going to go die and be buried for three days and we'll rise again.

  217. And he's on his journey to the cross.

  218. And they miss it.

  219. In spite of what Jesus had been clearly telling him, they miss it.

  220. And for many in that crowd, Judas included,

  221. in spite of what Jesus has said,

  222. in spite of what they understand,

  223. in spite of what they've been taught,

  224. in spite of what they've been exposed to,

  225. they think that their journey in Jerusalem is going to be this earthly kingdom

  226. that's going to kick out Rome and reestablish what was there

  227. and go back to the time of David.

  228. And as different members, including Judas,

  229. begin to realize, like, this ain't what's going on,

  230. they're like, well, then we're going to tap out.

  231. And so Judas sees this and realizes this.

  232. He's like, no, 30 pieces of silver, here we go.

  233. Right?

  234. And they miss it.

  235. Because for so many,

  236. Jesus is just a means to their end.

  237. They've missed, take up your cross and follow me.

  238. They've missed, if you love me, then you'll obey me.

  239. They've missed it.

  240. And so for so many of us,

  241. what we want to look at and examine our hearts

  242. when understanding these next two encounters with Christ

  243. is asking that question, have we missed it?

  244. Is Jesus not the daily, the moment,

  245. the second, the very power that we live in,

  246. that we worship, of who we are?

  247. Or is Jesus simply a means to the end?

  248. I filled out a card, I checked a box,

  249. and I did that, and now my eternity's secure.

  250. So this moment has happened,

  251. and that moment will be good,

  252. so I can just kind of live my life,

  253. however I mean through here.

  254. And maybe, if that's the way you think,

  255. maybe we just missed it.

  256. Maybe you just missed it.

  257. And you're going to understand the missing,

  258. and I think by the way that we not only view Christ,

  259. but by the way we view Christ and the way we view sin.

  260. So look at verse 41.

  261. And when he drew near and saw the city,

  262. he wept over it.

  263. I want to pause for a second.

  264. There's been one time in my life

  265. that I've had the opportunity

  266. to have my feet on the ground

  267. and look out over a city.

  268. And it was in Jaipur in India.

  269. And Jaipur is a massive city,

  270. millions of people,

  271. and there's a mountain range that surrounds Jaipur.

  272. And on our very last day,

  273. we drove up to the top of the mountains,

  274. and we stood on the top of the mountain.

  275. There was a palace behind us,

  276. a fortress behind us,

  277. and there was the city out there.

  278. And we stood there,

  279. and we looked out.

  280. And at first,

  281. you're looking at the 5,000-foot view

  282. of the chaos of millions of people.

  283. But then in that moment,

  284. you begin to realize

  285. the vast amounts of lostness that's there.

  286. There's no part of India

  287. that's greater than 2% saved.

  288. No part.

  289. And so you're seeing millions and millions of people

  290. of lostness.

  291. And I remember the impact of that moment.

  292. And then I look here,

  293. and Jesus draws near the city,

  294. and he looks out over it,

  295. and he weeps.

  296. And in a little glimmer of a way

  297. that God gives my heart grace,

  298. I can understand that.

  299. Verse 42, saying,

  300. Would that you,

  301. even you,

  302. have known on this day

  303. the things that make for peace.

  304. But now they are hidden from your eyes,

  305. for the days will come upon you

  306. when your enemies will set up a barricade

  307. around you

  308. and surround you

  309. and hem you in on every side

  310. and tear you down to the ground,

  311. you and your children within you.

  312. And they will not leave

  313. one stone upon another in you

  314. because you did not know

  315. the time of your visitation.

  316. So here's what I want us to get there.

  317. There's so much,

  318. and we can't do it justice this morning,

  319. but so much that I want us to see

  320. and understand is this,

  321. that the first aspect

  322. that we begin to understand

  323. about Christ and sin

  324. and our sin to understand

  325. is the mercy of Jesus.

  326. Jesus looks out over Jerusalem

  327. and the vast lostness that's there

  328. and begins to weep.

  329. He begins to weep

  330. because the fulfillment of Scripture

  331. which will happen,

  332. the physical destruction of Jerusalem

  333. that will come,

  334. and in 70 A.D.,

  335. Rome comes and sacks Jerusalem

  336. and destroys it,

  337. but also within here

  338. is the spiritual destruction

  339. of all those

  340. who didn't see Jesus

  341. for who he was

  342. and what he came to do

  343. because they missed it.

  344. As he walked

  345. and as he talked,

  346. their own agendas

  347. were filled their brains

  348. and consumed them

  349. and they missed who he was

  350. and as Jesus stands over the city

  351. and looks down

  352. and begins to weep

  353. because he's like,

  354. as you're chasing this

  355. and as you're chasing this,

  356. and you're chasing this,

  357. you're missing it

  358. because it's me.

  359. It's me.

  360. It's me.

  361. And I'm here.

  362. And we see the mercy of Jesus.

  363. I don't know.

  364. Jesus had every right

  365. to stand over Jerusalem

  366. and say,

  367. you fools.

  368. Jesus had every right

  369. to stand over Jerusalem

  370. and lavish in the destruction

  371. that would come

  372. because of their disobedience

  373. and the wrath of God

  374. that would happen.

  375. but instead,

  376. he wept.

  377. He wept.

  378. He wept.

  379. And he continued

  380. his journey

  381. to the cross

  382. where he would die.

  383. I think so many of us

  384. miss

  385. Jesus

  386. because we feel

  387. that Jesus

  388. is just this God

  389. waiting to punish us,

  390. to catch us in the bad,

  391. to get,

  392. I knew you were going to do it.

  393. Punishment.

  394. But what we see here

  395. from the heart of the Savior

  396. who would bear the burden

  397. of the sins of the world

  398. is that when he looks out

  399. over the people

  400. who one day say,

  401. Hosanna,

  402. and another say,

  403. crucifying,

  404. he weeps.

  405. And we understand

  406. the mercy of God.

  407. Next thing,

  408. let's look at verses 45 and 46.

  409. It says,

  410. and he entered the temple

  411. and began to drive out

  412. those who sold

  413. saying to them,

  414. it is written,

  415. my house shall be

  416. a house of prayer

  417. but you

  418. made it

  419. a den

  420. of robbers.

  421. So we're going to see

  422. two

  423. what seem to be

  424. contradictory

  425. pieces of Jesus

  426. but they're not.

  427. They're not.

  428. These play

  429. into each other

  430. so we see

  431. the mercy of Jesus

  432. but also we're going to see

  433. the judgment of Jesus

  434. and as we look

  435. and we unpack

  436. scripture

  437. and we understand

  438. that there's

  439. the mercy of God

  440. and the judgment of God

  441. and that the goodness of God

  442. is found in both of those

  443. that I don't want a God

  444. who doesn't bring judgment

  445. because his goodness

  446. and his holiness

  447. is found in it.

  448. And then here

  449. we see the judgment

  450. of Jesus.

  451. And just a little side note

  452. but I think this points

  453. to something else

  454. that we're going to see

  455. in a few weeks.

  456. Sometimes I think

  457. we get wrong

  458. are the physical impression

  459. that we get of Jesus.

  460. I don't know about you

  461. but I grew up in a church

  462. that had like

  463. really pretty

  464. white,

  465. blonde haired,

  466. blue eyed Jesus

  467. in pictures

  468. in their buildings.

  469. You know?

  470. Like I saw that.

  471. And we get this

  472. picture of Jesus

  473. that it always looked like

  474. I mean his hair

  475. was brushed out

  476. perfect, right?

  477. He was this soft,

  478. delicate,

  479. little man.

  480. But I don't think

  481. that's who Jesus was

  482. at all.

  483. And I think

  484. scripture here

  485. points to that.

  486. Jesus walks

  487. into a space,

  488. his space

  489. that others

  490. have claimed

  491. for their own.

  492. He walks over,

  493. he flips over tables,

  494. he drives out people

  495. and no one

  496. does a thing.

  497. Now let somebody

  498. come to your house

  499. and you're sitting

  500. down for dinner

  501. and come up

  502. and turn

  503. your table

  504. up.

  505. Let somebody

  506. show up

  507. to your office

  508. tomorrow

  509. and come

  510. into your

  511. workspace

  512. and clean

  513. your desk

  514. off.

  515. Let somebody

  516. go into

  517. your bank

  518. account

  519. and take

  520. from you

  521. what you

  522. think is

  523. theirs.

  524. How are you

  525. going to react?

  526. And Jesus

  527. walks into

  528. this space

  529. in the fullness

  530. physically

  531. of who he is

  532. and not

  533. through the

  534. power of

  535. a miracle

  536. walking in

  537. the power

  538. of God

  539. though in

  540. this moment

  541. and flips

  542. over the

  543. tables

  544. and everyone

  545. who's in

  546. there,

  547. every person

  548. who sat

  549. there and sold,

  550. every person

  551. who felt like

  552. that was a claim

  553. for themselves,

  554. every person

  555. who lost

  556. money that day,

  557. they just

  558. scattered

  559. because of

  560. the physical

  561. presence of

  562. Jesus

  563. in that

  564. moment.

  565. Now,

  566. here's what I

  567. want to connect

  568. with this

  569. for just a

  570. second.

  571. In just a few

  572. weeks,

  573. here's why I

  574. think this

  575. matters.

  576. Jesus is going

  577. to go out

  578. into the

  579. garden

  580. and Judas

  581. is going to

  582. approach him

  583. and he could

  584. have laid

  585. him down

  586. but he

  587. didn't.

  588. Instead,

  589. he allowed

  590. Judas

  591. to kiss

  592. him on the

  593. cheek

  594. in the

  595. betrayal

  596. and then to

  597. be handed

  598. over

  599. and led

  600. away.

  601. And as I

  602. look through

  603. this,

  604. I think we

  605. begin to see

  606. is more

  607. and more

  608. of God

  609. pointing to

  610. what Jesus

  611. is doing

  612. as Jesus

  613. is living

  614. over obedience

  615. and the

  616. will of

  617. God

  618. as he's

  619. led to

  620. the cross.

  621. But we

  622. see the

  623. judgment of

  624. Jesus.

  625. Jesus comes

  626. in and

  627. attacks three

  628. things in

  629. this moment.

  630. Jesus

  631. attacks

  632. false

  633. religion.

  634. Jesus

  635. steps into

  636. a situation

  637. that is now

  638. religiously

  639. acceptable

  640. by the

  641. leaders who

  642. are there

  643. and we

  644. don't have

  645. the time

  646. to get

  647. into

  648. everything

  649. that is

  650. taking

  651. place

  652. but that

  653. those who

  654. are in

  655. charge

  656. are saying

  657. yeah,

  658. it's

  659. alright,

  660. we can

  661. do this,

  662. we can

  663. live

  664. in

  665. this

  666. and

  667. Jesus

  668. says no,

  669. no,

  670. no,

  671. no,

  672. because it

  673. walks away

  674. from the

  675. standard

  676. because these

  677. aren't

  678. suggestions,

  679. these are

  680. commands.

  681. So stop

  682. living in

  683. what you

  684. want it

  685. to be

  686. and start

  687. living in

  688. what it

  689. is.

  690. And Jesus

  691. attacks the

  692. religion.

  693. And I

  694. think for

  695. some of

  696. us,

  697. the tables

  698. are being

  699. overturned in

  700. our heart

  701. is kind

  702. of asking

  703. us like

  704. are we

  705. walking in

  706. here with

  707. the expectations

  708. of what

  709. we want

  710. trying to

  711. live in

  712. the suggestions

  713. and Jesus

  714. saying no,

  715. no,

  716. no,

  717. no,

  718. it's the

  719. commands

  720. that I

  721. bring before

  722. you.

  723. Jesus

  724. steps in

  725. and attacks

  726. reputation.

  727. You know,

  728. these men

  729. that are in

  730. there,

  731. this is their

  732. business.

  733. This is what

  734. they're known

  735. for.

  736. Jesus says

  737. right here

  738. that they're

  739. a den

  740. of robbers.

  741. I see some

  742. small business

  743. owners in

  744. here.

  745. What if

  746. one of us

  747. got on

  748. social media

  749. and said

  750. your business

  751. is a,

  752. you're a

  753. thief.

  754. You're a

  755. thief.

  756. How would

  757. you respond

  758. to that?

  759. Jesus

  760. steps into

  761. that moment

  762. in their

  763. sin and

  764. attacks the

  765. reputation

  766. that they

  767. have that

  768. have been

  769. built on

  770. their sin

  771. and what it

  772. causes in

  773. that moment

  774. of who

  775. they are.

  776. But also

  777. maybe in a

  778. way that

  779. hits home

  780. for all

  781. of us.

  782. Jesus

  783. jumps in

  784. and takes

  785. out some

  786. financial

  787. standing

  788. and begins

  789. to deal

  790. with the

  791. hearts of

  792. the things

  793. of those

  794. who have

  795. pursued.

  796. And I

  797. don't know

  798. about you

  799. but I

  800. want to

  801. ask you

  802. in your

  803. heart

  804. and your

  805. obedience

  806. and your

  807. drive toward

  808. the Lord

  809. are you

  810. willing to

  811. be a

  812. little

  813. unethical

  814. right?

  815. For

  816. financial

  817. purposes.

  818. financial

  819. gain.

  820. You know

  821. like

  822. what if

  823. Jesus

  824. not what

  825. if

  826. let me

  827. rephrase

  828. that

  829. what if

  830. we

  831. acknowledged

  832. that God

  833. is with

  834. us while

  835. we did

  836. our taxes?

  837. Would we

  838. do them

  839. a little

  840. different?

  841. Would we

  842. be the

  843. person of

  844. integrity

  845. and Jesus

  846. steps in

  847. and brings

  848. the judgment

  849. out?

  850. Jesus

  851. steps in

  852. at these

  853. areas

  854. and says

  855. I'm

  856. going to

  857. examine

  858. this

  859. and this

  860. and this

  861. and flipping

  862. these

  863. over

  864. and we

  865. see the

  866. judgment

  867. of Christ

  868. so in

  869. these two

  870. areas

  871. Jesus

  872. weeps

  873. over the

  874. sin that

  875. has blinded

  876. them

  877. to who

  878. he is

  879. Jesus

  880. attacks

  881. the sin

  882. that is

  883. in your

  884. life

  885. that is

  886. preventing

  887. you from

  888. obedience

  889. and following

  890. him in a

  891. day to day

  892. life

  893. and my

  894. concern is

  895. my prayer

  896. for us

  897. as a

  898. church

  899. my prayer

  900. for us

  901. as a

  902. body

  903. of

  904. people

  905. who

  906. claim

  907. to be

  908. believers

  909. is that

  910. within

  911. this

  912. are there

  913. things

  914. in this

  915. world

  916. that are

  917. causing

  918. us

  919. to not

  920. see

  921. Jesus

  922. for clearly

  923. who he

  924. is

  925. to only

  926. see

  927. Jesus

  928. as a

  929. means

  930. to the

  931. end

  932. and when

  933. Jesus

  934. steps

  935. into

  936. these

  937. small

  938. compartments

  939. of our

  940. life

  941. and says

  942. but I'm

  943. not king

  944. there

  945. and I'm

  946. not king

  947. there

  948. and I'm

  949. not king

  950. there

  951. what is

  952. our

  953. response

  954. to him

  955. is our

  956. response

  957. you're not

  958. going to

  959. tell me

  960. who I

  961. am

  962. as he

  963. weeps

  964. over the

  965. sin

  966. and the

  967. broken

  968. hardness

  969. of the

  970. blindness

  971. that we've

  972. sold ourselves

  973. to

  974. and my

  975. fear is

  976. we miss

  977. Jesus

  978. and close

  979. don't miss

  980. Jesus

  981. don't miss

  982. the joy

  983. of knowing

  984. of eternity

  985. with him

  986. hell is

  987. real

  988. forever

  989. is a

  990. long

  991. time

  992. Jesus

  993. is the

  994. only

  995. way

  996. don't

  997. miss

  998. him

  999. but also

  1000. this

  1001. if

  1002. Jesus

  1003. is a

  1004. means

  1005. to an

  1006. end

  1007. you

  1008. will

  1009. miss

  1010. the

  1011. beauty

  1012. of

  1013. seeing

  1014. your

  1015. life

  1016. live

  1017. through

  1018. the

  1019. power

  1020. of

  1021. the

  1022. spirit

  1023. if

  1024. Jesus

  1025. is

  1026. a

  1027. means

  1028. to

  1029. an

  1030. end

  1031. you

  1032. will

  1033. miss

  1034. the

  1035. old

  1036. life

  1037. that

  1038. has

  1039. passed

  1040. away

  1041. and

  1042. experience

  1043. the

  1044. new

  1045. life

  1046. that

  1047. comes

  1048. to

  1049. the

  1050. gospel

  1051. and

  1052. then

  1053. really

  1054. if

  1055. Jesus

  1056. is

  1057. simply

  1058. a

  1059. means

  1060. to

  1061. the

  1062. end

  1063. are

  1064. you

  1065. even

  1066. saved

  1067. anyways

  1068. let's

  1069. pray

  1070. Lord we

  1071. thank you

  1072. for this

  1073. opportunity

  1074. and time

  1075. we could

  1076. be here

  1077. Lord

  1078. thank you

  1079. for the

  1080. picture

  1081. of

  1082. what you

  1083. show

  1084. us

  1085. as you

  1086. reveal your

  1087. heart

  1088. more and

  1089. more to

  1090. us

  1091. Lord may

  1092. we be

  1093. people

  1094. say

  1095. like Jesus

  1096. you're

  1097. you're not

  1098. just here

  1099. for

  1100. religious

  1101. ritual

  1102. we're

  1103. not just

  1104. here

  1105. for what

  1106. we can

  1107. get out

  1108. of it

  1109. at the

  1110. end

  1111. of the

  1112. journey

  1113. but we're

  1114. here

  1115. Lord

  1116. so that

  1117. we can

  1118. know you

  1119. more

  1120. that we

  1121. can be

  1122. transformed

  1123. more

  1124. and we

  1125. can be

  1126. more like

  1127. you

  1128. and then

  1129. Lord what

  1130. we have

  1131. in that

  1132. moment

  1133. Lord

  1134. is we

  1135. can weep

  1136. over

  1137. cities

  1138. as we

  1139. look at

  1140. the

  1141. lostness

  1142. of our

  1143. friends

  1144. and our

  1145. neighbors

  1146. and our

  1147. family members

  1148. that we

  1149. can weep

  1150. over the

  1151. lostness

  1152. Lord

  1153. of those

  1154. who are

  1155. all over

  1156. this world

  1157. who don't

  1158. have the

  1159. hope of

  1160. the gospel

  1161. many

  1162. of whom

  1163. Lord

  1164. do not

  1165. even have

  1166. access

  1167. to the

  1168. gospel

  1169. so Lord

  1170. may we

  1171. be like

  1172. Christ

  1173. and weep

  1174. over them

  1175. Lord

  1176. before we

  1177. walk into

  1178. a room

  1179. and think

  1180. we need to

  1181. start turning

  1182. over tables

  1183. Lord

  1184. may we

  1185. see the

  1186. tables

  1187. that

  1188. you've

  1189. turned

  1190. over

  1191. may we

  1192. Lord

  1193. repent

  1194. and stop

  1195. trying to

  1196. put the

  1197. pieces of

  1198. the table

  1199. back together

  1200. but instead

  1201. walk

  1202. toward you

  1203. Lord

  1204. the beauty

  1205. of the

  1206. judgment

  1207. of what

  1208. you bring

  1209. us

  1210. is your

  1211. judgment

  1212. comes with

  1213. warning

  1214. what you're

  1215. calling us

  1216. to

  1217. the life

  1218. with you

  1219. transformed

  1220. by you

  1221. so Lord

  1222. I thank you

  1223. that we

  1224. are saved

  1225. by grace

  1226. through

  1227. faith

  1228. not something

  1229. we deserve

  1230. it's not

  1231. something that

  1232. we earn

  1233. but it

  1234. comes freely

  1235. to us
