  1. Hi, and welcome to the Willow Ridge Church weekly podcast.

  2. This is where you can find audio for our current and past sermons.

  3. We hope that you enjoy this week's installment, and be sure to check back next week to hear

  4. the latest message.

  5. Thanks for listening.

  6. All right, tons of good stuff going on.

  7. So one of those good things that's going on is we're here together this morning.

  8. The Lord has us up, alive.

  9. It is cool out there.

  10. Joel's right.

  11. It's tempting.

  12. It's tempting not to be in here when it feels like that out there.

  13. I get it.

  14. But the Lord has us here.

  15. I'm grateful to be here with you as a church family.

  16. I'm grateful to continue in James.

  17. The past couple weeks, we've looked at how we will face trials.

  18. That's a certainty.

  19. If you're a believing person, just mark it.

  20. Put it on the calendar.

  21. Every day, there's going to be a trial, and there's going to be perennial temptation.

  22. They're always going to deal with that.

  23. So my question, my gut reaction to that is, am I ready for that?

  24. Now, I don't mean some sweet Sunday school answer.

  25. I mean, am I actually ready for that?

  26. Am I ready to face tests consistently?

  27. Severe trials that cost the life of friends, that cost relationships, that bring uncertainty?

  28. Am I ready to face constant temptation?

  29. Every ploy by the enemy that wants to wreck me sideways this way and that.

  30. Am I ready for that?

  31. Well, I hope we're ready for that.

  32. And I think the book of James is written to make us ready.

  33. But I'd be careful about my response and your response to that question as to why you're ready.

  34. What makes you confident that you're ready?

  35. The most common answer I hear, because again, he's writing to believing people, Christians,

  36. is why?

  37. Man, I'm in church every Sunday listening to the Bible.

  38. I'm studying the Bible every day for myself.

  39. Every day, man.

  40. I'm listening to podcasts on the way, on the way back from work.

  41. I'm reading books that are steeped in theology.

  42. And they're helping give me strength and a spine to approach these things.

  43. And James actually would give a different answer than that.

  44. If you really want to be ready for tests and temptations.

  45. He actually says in verse 22, and that's going to be kind of the key feature of 19 through 27,

  46. which is where we're going to be in chapter 1 today.

  47. But be doers of the word.

  48. And not hearers only deceiving yourselves.

  49. He basically says if your response to why you're ready for trials and temptations is that you study the Bible with deep devotion,

  50. that's an incomplete response.

  51. That's not adequate.

  52. He actually says, you're kidding yourself.

  53. If you want to dress that up, make it more formal, you're self-deceived.

  54. You think that showing up at church and hearing preaching alone,

  55. that studying the Bible on your own alone,

  56. that being devoted to theological propriety alone makes you ready.

  57. And he's saying, you're not ready.

  58. Because more generally, his plea with us is actually follow Jesus.

  59. And some of the most disobedient moments in our lives, if we're honest,

  60. have been sitting in this room doing what we're doing right now.

  61. The most disobedient moments are then.

  62. Because we hear the word only, and we have no intention of acting on it.

  63. None.

  64. We think it's right.

  65. We would tell our coworkers it's right.

  66. We would believe it's true as opposed to untruth.

  67. We're not going to do anything about it.

  68. I'm not going to align my life with it.

  69. Especially if it's inconvenient or I don't happen to like what it says.

  70. Anytime I'm challenged or confronted,

  71. it isn't neatly fit, I've got enough stress going on in my life.

  72. Why would I want to align myself with that word?

  73. Unless, unless, I believe that's its purpose.

  74. I believe that the purpose of God's word to me

  75. is to portray who he is.

  76. So I can be who I'm supposed to be by faith in him.

  77. So James is going to help us understand.

  78. Man, how do we become hearers and doers of the word of God?

  79. And I want to make something really clear

  80. because I know we have to hop in and out of the service sometimes.

  81. People have to go get their kids.

  82. So I want to say it at the front end

  83. and say it several times throughout.

  84. And here's what I want to say.

  85. Anybody who very wrongly says to you what this passage teaches is,

  86. we just need to be about doing.

  87. Not all that learning.

  88. Not all that here in the Bible.

  89. You spend too much time with your nose in the Bible.

  90. That is absolutely not what he's saying.

  91. You can't get that out of this passage

  92. if you squeezed it in there and tried to pull it out.

  93. That's just not going to work.

  94. He actually is saying quite the opposite.

  95. You don't need less time in the word.

  96. You need more obedience as a result.

  97. That's what I need.

  98. And that's what you need.

  99. That's what anyone who follows Jesus needs.

  100. So how would we do that?

  101. How would we actually become people

  102. that do intensely hear the word?

  103. We want to hear it.

  104. We're starved for it.

  105. We need it because we want to actually do something about it.

  106. Look at verses 19 through 21 with me.

  107. Know this, my beloved brothers.

  108. Let every person be quick to hear,

  109. slow to speak, slow to anger.

  110. For the anger of man does not produce

  111. the righteousness of God.

  112. Therefore, put away all filthiness

  113. and rampant wickedness

  114. and receive with meekness the implanted word

  115. which is able to save your souls.

  116. My question here really is,

  117. how can we be this type of person

  118. that hears and acts

  119. in genuineness and sincerity

  120. a man with hot devotion?

  121. And the way he starts to frame this

  122. is pretty simple.

  123. You've got to plead with God

  124. to make your gut reaction different.

  125. I don't know all of you.

  126. I know many of you,

  127. but I don't know all of you.

  128. But this is going to get eerie real quick

  129. because James is reading our mail,

  130. all of us, mine too.

  131. And he's basically saying,

  132. you think about how you're challenged

  133. and confronted with something.

  134. Just think for a minute.

  135. Not how you want to dress it up

  136. when you're in small group

  137. and act like it's different.

  138. I mean how you actually respond.

  139. Okay?

  140. If you're being honest with yourself,

  141. it's something probably how I respond.

  142. You challenge and confront me

  143. with something that's true.

  144. And I immediately have an emotive response.

  145. And if I don't like it,

  146. I'm upset.

  147. I could even get angry.

  148. And my next step after that

  149. is to defend, deflect,

  150. say something, tweet something,

  151. text something, email something.

  152. Which, by the way,

  153. when he's talking about speech

  154. in the digital age,

  155. yes, your social media isn't off limits

  156. from where God's going to grab a hold of

  157. and throw it in the trash

  158. if that's where it needs to go.

  159. So, my response usually

  160. when you confront me

  161. and I don't like it

  162. is in a fleshly way,

  163. I get upset.

  164. And then I say something to you

  165. that communicates,

  166. I'm upset.

  167. I don't like this.

  168. And then if I'm having

  169. a really great day

  170. and things are magical

  171. and I'm feeling really good

  172. about everything,

  173. I might get around

  174. to listening to you.

  175. Maybe.

  176. Maybe.

  177. But that's a long shot

  178. when I'm frustrated

  179. and self-protective

  180. and don't want to give in

  181. to what's true

  182. and what's right.

  183. And isn't it eerie

  184. that if you're anything like me,

  185. the exact opposite order

  186. is what James says

  187. we need to do.

  188. You actually need

  189. to be quick to listen.

  190. That needs to be anxious

  191. in you, urgent.

  192. I got to hear the truth.

  193. I want it.

  194. I want to get in this

  195. and anybody who's associated

  196. and aligns themselves

  197. with this

  198. and speaks that truth to me,

  199. I got to have that.

  200. And I want to listen,

  201. not just hear the words

  202. but actually internalize.

  203. I want to hear that.

  204. And you know the next thing

  205. I want to do?

  206. I want to shut my mouth

  207. which is hard for some of us.

  208. I confess that right now.

  209. It's hard.

  210. I just need to be quiet

  211. and actually be humble

  212. and teachable

  213. and listen to the truth.

  214. And then,

  215. I have to be very slow

  216. to get angry

  217. as I internalize the truth.

  218. I can't get upset about it.

  219. I've got to know

  220. this is for my good

  221. and mercy.

  222. Now, he's making

  223. a general statement here

  224. but I think he also wants us

  225. to specifically apply it

  226. to being hearers of the word

  227. and doers

  228. because here's what

  229. your anger will do.

  230. It will never produce virtue

  231. and righteousness

  232. in your life.

  233. I am not saying

  234. that angry lacks virtue

  235. all the time.

  236. Sometimes angry

  237. may be right.

  238. I am just telling you

  239. that biblically

  240. because we want to bring up

  241. Jesus' cleansing

  242. of the temple,

  243. for example.

  244. Do I think

  245. that was an expression

  246. of his anger?

  247. It may have been

  248. but it was also

  249. determined action

  250. by one who never sinned.

  251. He visited this setting

  252. the night before

  253. and came back

  254. to visit the wrath

  255. on it.

  256. He didn't flippantly

  257. fly off the handle

  258. because he was ticked off

  259. because he got sideways

  260. with them.

  261. So,

  262. I mean,

  263. if your anger

  264. is that devoted,

  265. if your anger

  266. is that process,

  267. if it's that directed

  268. that you seek virtue

  269. as an outcome,

  270. then it's righteous anger.

  271. But everything else

  272. is sin.

  273. And particularly,

  274. he's addressing

  275. sinful anger

  276. which is the vast majority

  277. of what we express.

  278. And he's saying,

  279. that's never going to produce

  280. what you think

  281. it's going to produce.

  282. It's never going to bring

  283. the good that you think

  284. it's going to bring.

  285. It actually makes

  286. everything malfunction

  287. instead of everything

  288. function and hit

  289. on all cylinders

  290. so you can hear

  291. and act

  292. in a way that brings

  293. glory to God

  294. and brings joy

  295. to your own soul.

  296. So how do we get there,

  297. James?

  298. I don't want to keep

  299. functioning like that.

  300. I don't want to do that.

  301. It's a way to get there.

  302. How do we become

  303. like this?

  304. That's the next part

  305. of what he says.

  306. You've got to put away

  307. all filthiness.

  308. I'll never forget,

  309. I worked with a guy

  310. and his primary job

  311. was plumbing

  312. and we had

  313. a late afternoon meeting.

  314. He'd been working

  315. in the trenches

  316. on sewer lines all day

  317. and he thought

  318. it'd be real funny

  319. to show up to the meeting

  320. without showering.

  321. Some of you

  322. have flashbacks right now.

  323. You're like,

  324. I've done that

  325. or I've been around people

  326. that do that.

  327. And they're like,

  328. he didn't swing by the house

  329. intentionally

  330. because he thought

  331. it'd be real cute

  332. to show up.

  333. He walked into the area

  334. where we were meeting

  335. and gave me a big hug.

  336. Hey, you talk about

  337. someone to induce vomiting.

  338. I mean, I was like,

  339. Van, I'm going to puke on you

  340. if you don't get out

  341. of my face right now.

  342. I'm like, man,

  343. change that stuff.

  344. That's the image

  345. that James has.

  346. Put away,

  347. take off clothing

  348. was the most common way

  349. this was used.

  350. Don't wear that stuff.

  351. You don't dress

  352. like someone,

  353. figuratively speaking,

  354. meaning you don't act,

  355. you don't portray yourself,

  356. you don't have a heart

  357. that's prone toward evil

  358. and degradation

  359. and filth.

  360. You just don't want

  361. poorness and evil

  362. for people,

  363. you don't want it

  364. for yourself

  365. and that's evident in you.

  366. So you've got to put that away.

  367. Well, that's doing, right?

  368. But where's the hearing dimension?

  369. And here's the key statement.

  370. Instead of acting like that,

  371. instead of outwardly

  372. portraying

  373. what could be evil

  374. resident in our heart,

  375. instead of doing that,

  376. why don't you receive

  377. this implanted word

  378. that can save

  379. your souls.

  380. Now that phrase

  381. is super interesting,

  382. implanted word.

  383. You're like,

  384. no, that's nerdy.

  385. I don't,

  386. it's not interested in me at all.

  387. It's like two words.

  388. Why is that interesting?

  389. Because now we're forced

  390. to do what we ought to do

  391. every single time

  392. we come to the Bible.

  393. Let's ask the question,

  394. what does that have to do

  395. with the entire Bible?

  396. So let's talk about

  397. the entire Bible

  398. just for a minute.

  399. I didn't say cover

  400. the entire Bible.

  401. I said talk about it,

  402. because that's necessary

  403. to understand this.

  404. If we think about

  405. hearing what God says

  406. and acting on it,

  407. we can go all the way back

  408. to the outset of Scripture.

  409. When God speaks,

  410. that activity creates

  411. all reality for us.

  412. He speaks it into existence.

  413. He speaks man and woman

  414. into existence

  415. once he has his place fashioned

  416. and he puts them there

  417. and he speaks

  418. covenant faithfulness to them.

  419. You will dwell with me.

  420. You will reign over this garden

  421. with me.

  422. You will tend it

  423. and care for it

  424. and everything.

  425. You have dominion.

  426. And what I'm telling you is

  427. don't eat the fruit of this tree

  428. because in the day you do it,

  429. you will surely die.

  430. That was his word to them.

  431. Did they hear it?

  432. Absolutely.

  433. Did they do it?

  434. Painfully, no.

  435. They did not.

  436. And on behalf of all of us

  437. that would follow

  438. and be born generation

  439. after generation,

  440. we deal with the horrible

  441. consequences of that.

  442. You want to know

  443. why your kids

  444. are frustrated with you?

  445. You want to know

  446. why you're frustrated

  447. with your kids?

  448. You want to know

  449. why you and your spouse

  450. can't completely

  451. and perfectly get along?

  452. Unless any other point

  453. of pain you have

  454. in your life

  455. it all comes

  456. from that moment.

  457. That sin entered

  458. the world

  459. through a deceptive word.

  460. He surely didn't tell you that.

  461. He didn't tell you

  462. not to eat it out

  463. or you're going to die.

  464. That's absurd.

  465. Everything else

  466. with power

  467. and truth

  468. he had said

  469. exactly came to pass.

  470. Why in the world

  471. would they doubt

  472. that this would be true too?

  473. But they did.

  474. And so they ate of it

  475. and their eyes were opened

  476. and they realized

  477. that they had sinned.

  478. They realized

  479. that they had broke

  480. the covenant

  481. that they had fractured

  482. the relationship

  483. that they had with God

  484. and God

  485. in his mercy

  486. immediately

  487. visits them

  488. and gives them

  489. a covenant promise.

  490. You have been

  491. utterly unfaithful to me.

  492. Utterly unfaithful.

  493. And I will be faithful

  494. in an unthinkable way

  495. to you.

  496. There's someone

  497. going to come eventually.

  498. Generation after generation

  499. you're going to anticipate

  500. he's going to come

  501. he's going to come

  502. he's going to come

  503. and you're going to wonder

  504. is he even going to show up

  505. but he's going to come.

  506. And when he shows up

  507. he's not going to do

  508. what this first Adam did.

  509. He's going to be

  510. a better second Adam.

  511. And when he comes

  512. this deceiver

  513. that did this to you

  514. he's going to think

  515. he's won

  516. because he's going

  517. to attack him.

  518. But at the end of the day

  519. he's going to crush his head.

  520. This deceiver's got

  521. no chance in the end.

  522. Even though he thinks

  523. that he wins battles here

  524. and wins battles there.

  525. And so the remainder

  526. of the Old Testament

  527. is covenant after covenant.

  528. Abraham,

  529. Moses,

  530. David

  531. to highlight a few.

  532. And through all of those

  533. God raises up

  534. his covenant people

  535. and continues to say

  536. I'm your God

  537. and you're my people.

  538. I'm faithful to you.

  539. Even though

  540. and he uses the term

  541. like you're playing

  542. the whore a lot.

  543. You're not being faithful

  544. to me.

  545. I don't change who I am.

  546. I'm God.

  547. I'm committed to you.

  548. So I will rescue you

  549. and punish you

  550. and restore you

  551. but you will always

  552. be mine.

  553. And so prophets

  554. rise up

  555. and they speak

  556. the truth

  557. of the word.

  558. Priests uphold that

  559. and they make sacrifices

  560. so people know

  561. this sin stuff

  562. is nasty and heinous.

  563. Like something's got to die

  564. if this is going

  565. to get forgiven.

  566. And kings reign

  567. and rule

  568. and most of them

  569. are really horrible people.

  570. They're not examples

  571. you want to point to

  572. of leadership.

  573. I guarantee you that.

  574. Even David

  575. a man after his own heart

  576. has done one of the worst

  577. things committed

  578. in the Old Testament.

  579. So what do they all need?

  580. They still need

  581. the one that was promised

  582. in Genesis 3.

  583. All the leaders

  584. all the kings

  585. all the prophets

  586. all the priests

  587. all the people

  588. that can't get it right

  589. and aren't devoted fully

  590. they still need

  591. the one who was promised.

  592. And John the Baptist

  593. says behold

  594. the Lamb of God

  595. who takes away

  596. the sin of the world.

  597. And there he is

  598. Jesus.

  599. And Jesus comes

  600. and he lives

  601. a sinless life

  602. in one of the worst

  603. pressure cookers

  604. that the face

  605. of the world

  606. has ever seen

  607. and ultimately

  608. the worst

  609. at the point of the cross.

  610. And he bears in his body

  611. the wrath

  612. that I completely deserve

  613. for everything

  614. I have ever done

  615. or will do

  616. and he grants me

  617. freedom and rescue

  618. if I will hope in him

  619. because three days later

  620. he's resurrected

  621. from the dead.

  622. Forty days later

  623. he's ascended

  624. to the right hand

  625. of the Father

  626. and sure to return

  627. so that all of those

  628. who were saved

  629. right rescued

  630. they believe

  631. and hope in him

  632. they're going to ultimately

  633. be in a new creation.

  634. the new heaven

  635. and the new earth.

  636. And the reason

  637. they will be there

  638. is because of what he says

  639. in the upper room

  640. when he institutes

  641. the Lord's Supper.

  642. This is the new covenant

  643. in my blood.

  644. What do you mean

  645. by that Jesus?

  646. It's not a new idea

  647. even though it has

  648. new in the word.

  649. Jeremiah 31

  650. actually says

  651. that God's going to

  652. make a new covenant

  653. when this Savior comes.

  654. And the strict dynamics

  655. of the covenant

  656. are really beautiful

  657. and compelling.

  658. Here's what that covenant

  659. looks like.

  660. You know how you

  661. trusted in the law

  662. you believed the law

  663. you did the word

  664. of God right?

  665. I mean that's what

  666. the law was to them.

  667. There's going to come a day

  668. I'm going to take that law

  669. with the rules

  670. and regulations

  671. and virtue

  672. that will guard your soul

  673. and make life

  674. beautiful for you

  675. and I'm going to

  676. write them on your heart.

  677. I'm going to actually

  678. put them in you

  679. so that when you ask

  680. should I file my taxes

  681. and be truthful

  682. should I honor my wife

  683. or look at porn

  684. should I be

  685. forthright

  686. with my friend

  687. or should I conceal

  688. because I actually

  689. want to look better

  690. when we're hanging out

  691. that my truth

  692. would actually guide you

  693. because the Holy Spirit

  694. will take up residence

  695. and he will constantly

  696. remind you of that truth

  697. internally

  698. so it can make

  699. its way

  700. external.

  701. You can always hear it

  702. so that you can do it.

  703. The reason the implanted

  704. word is important is

  705. it's got to be related

  706. to that promise

  707. of the new covenant

  708. in Jeremiah 31

  709. and that's all related

  710. to the entirety

  711. of the Bible.

  712. That is revolutionary

  713. compared to what

  714. most people think.

  715. I go study the Bible

  716. I read the Bible

  717. I listen to podcasts

  718. I read theology books

  719. but at the end

  720. of the day

  721. man I just got to

  722. figure this stuff

  723. out for myself.

  724. No.

  725. For an unbelieving

  726. person

  727. for someone outside

  728. of Christ

  729. you haven't put

  730. your faith in Jesus

  731. it feels that way

  732. to you

  733. because it is

  734. that way to you.

  735. It's all outside

  736. of you

  737. and praise be

  738. to God

  739. that you're here

  740. praise be to God

  741. that you want

  742. to hear the word

  743. you want to be

  744. around it

  745. but it's not

  746. the same thing

  747. as knowing Jesus

  748. being changed

  749. by who he is

  750. because he's the one

  751. who was promised

  752. in the garden

  753. that would be sent

  754. to rescue us

  755. and being assured

  756. of your hope

  757. in him

  758. that will last

  759. for all eternity

  760. that's what life

  761. abundantly means

  762. when Jesus

  763. makes that comment

  764. so how do we

  765. become hearers

  766. and doers

  767. we actually

  768. receive with meekness

  769. the implanted word

  770. we actually

  771. hunger for the word

  772. of God

  773. and we respond

  774. to the spirit's work

  775. that prompts us

  776. to actually obey it

  777. and when we're tempted

  778. to not obey it

  779. I would argue

  780. in a new covenant

  781. community

  782. you notice there's

  783. more than one person

  784. that's a part of that

  785. they should reach out

  786. to our brothers

  787. and sisters

  788. and say

  789. I don't want to obey this

  790. I'll just tell you

  791. straight up

  792. like I don't want

  793. to obey this

  794. and they love us

  795. and they challenge us

  796. and confront us

  797. and what do we do

  798. we fight that urge

  799. and we trust the spirit

  800. of God's work

  801. to say

  802. I'm going to be quick

  803. to listen

  804. I don't want to listen

  805. to you

  806. but I'm going to be

  807. quick to listen

  808. right

  809. I'm going to be

  810. slow to speak

  811. I don't need to

  812. defend myself

  813. or deflect

  814. or shift

  815. I'm going to be

  816. slow to get angry

  817. in this moment

  818. I need this

  819. confrontation

  820. it's good for my soul

  821. because I actually

  822. do want to hear

  823. the word of God

  824. and do it

  825. not just pretend to

  826. and deceive myself

  827. so receiving

  828. the word of God

  829. being open to it

  830. responding to the

  831. spirit's work

  832. that's the first element

  833. the other question

  834. that I really ask

  835. is

  836. okay James

  837. but I'm thick headed

  838. like I'm from Lexington

  839. like most of y'all

  840. and we can be a little stubborn

  841. right

  842. just culturally speaking

  843. like I get that

  844. I am that

  845. alright

  846. I get it

  847. so like

  848. can you show me a picture

  849. because implanted word

  850. that still sounds pretty heady

  851. and we just

  852. good grief

  853. we just covered the whole bible

  854. like good night

  855. my head's spinning a little bit

  856. like can you just

  857. I'm a simpleton here James

  858. like show me

  859. portray what you're talking about

  860. because I need an example

  861. but be doers of the word

  862. and not hearers only

  863. deceiving yourselves

  864. for if anyone is a hearer of the word

  865. and not a doer

  866. he's like a man

  867. who looks intently

  868. at his natural face

  869. in a mirror

  870. for he looks at himself

  871. and goes away

  872. and

  873. at once he forgets

  874. what he was like

  875. this is the first of two

  876. very different people

  877. so he's gonna do exactly

  878. what I've asked him to

  879. show me an example

  880. he's gonna show me a non-example

  881. this forgetful hearer

  882. and a really good example

  883. of what it looks like

  884. to actually do this

  885. receive the word

  886. and act on it

  887. well this first guy

  888. is a little bit like

  889. one of my grandparents

  890. loved to say

  891. you know

  892. I can only get so gussied up

  893. right

  894. some of you still say that

  895. because it's like a hanger on

  896. from a bygone era

  897. I kind of like the gussied up

  898. right

  899. kind of want to

  900. let's bring that back

  901. maybe we'll bring that back

  902. after this morning sermon

  903. I can only get so gussied up

  904. but at the end of the day

  905. I'm working what I'm working with

  906. right

  907. it's like putting perfume

  908. on a hog

  909. that was their phrase

  910. I mean I

  911. you know I do so much

  912. with what I got

  913. right

  914. and I'm doing the best

  915. that I can do

  916. here

  917. some of you looking at me

  918. going that's what you

  919. must have done this morning

  920. because that's what you did

  921. when you looked in the mirror

  922. right

  923. which we all did this morning

  924. presumably

  925. every single one of us

  926. and again James

  927. is reading that mail on us

  928. not a one of us

  929. looked in our reflection

  930. there in the mirror

  931. it told the truth

  932. unless you got fun house mirrors

  933. in your house

  934. and if you do

  935. that's weird

  936. okay let's have another

  937. conversation about that

  938. that's a totally different matter

  939. all right

  940. but I'm assuming you have

  941. a standard mirror in your house

  942. when you looked at it

  943. nobody would walk away

  944. from that

  945. and not fix their hair

  946. or try to

  947. nobody would walk away

  948. and see

  949. man I got

  950. my eyes are puffy

  951. I gotta deal with something here

  952. nobody would walk away

  953. from that

  954. and see

  955. oh my goodness

  956. I look pale

  957. or I got too much sun

  958. or whatever

  959. I gotta do something

  960. you ladies

  961. got all kinds of chemicals

  962. and like there's vats

  963. and stuff in there

  964. I don't even know

  965. what all that

  966. I need some of that

  967. I'm just not

  968. I don't have a chemist degree

  969. to work with this

  970. I can't do that

  971. but anyway

  972. you do all that

  973. and it's like

  974. this is incredible

  975. no one looks at

  976. what is undeniably

  977. telling you the truth

  978. about the situation

  979. who really wants

  980. to be different

  981. and then walks away

  982. and goes

  983. I have no idea

  984. what that showed me

  985. and I don't plan

  986. to do anything about it

  987. no person

  988. who's earnest

  989. about wanting

  990. to fix

  991. what's wrong

  992. what's out of alignment

  993. looks at that

  994. and does that

  995. but how many times

  996. are we

  997. right now

  998. literally with the Bible

  999. open

  1000. looking at it

  1001. and we have

  1002. zero intention

  1003. to obey it

  1004. none

  1005. every time

  1006. we do that

  1007. it's like

1008. we looked in the mirror

  1009. turned around

1010. like I have no idea

  1011. what it showed me

  1012. and I'm not going

  1013. to look back

  1014. because I don't care

1015. or maybe I'll look back

  1016. next week

1017. but I'm still not going

1018. to do anything about it

  1019. and I'll go week

  1020. after week

  1021. after week

1022. and I'll look at it

  1023. and look at it

  1024. and look at it

  1025. but I don't do anything

  1026. about it

  1027. I'm not going

  1028. to act on it

  1029. how different

  1030. is that person

  1031. from the one

  1032. who looks

  1033. into the perfect law

  1034. the law of liberty

  1035. and perseveres

  1036. being no hearer

  1037. who forgets

  1038. but a doer

  1039. who acts

  1040. he will be blessed

  1041. in his doing

  1042. stark contrast

  1043. in this joyful doer

  1044. keep in mind

  1045. it's the same word

  1046. in the metaphor

  1047. they're not looking

  1048. at a different mirror

  1049. they don't have

  1050. a fun house mirror

  1051. it's the same mirror

  1052. it's the same truth

  1053. it's the same reflection

  1054. of reality

  1055. the difference

  1056. is the response

  1057. that's the difference

  1058. that's why I do think

  1059. emphatically

  1060. what I said

  1061. at the outset

  1062. it's true

  1063. you can't tell

  1064. in here

  1065. the difference

  1066. between someone

  1067. who is going

  1068. to act on this

  1069. even now

  1070. is being stirred

  1071. by God's spirit

  1072. to act on this

  1073. and someone

  1074. who's not

  1075. because we all

  1076. sitting here

  1077. either swiping

  1078. our bible

  1079. or turning the pages

  1080. whichever mode

  1081. you use

  1082. we're all looking

  1083. at the screen

  1084. right

  1085. and whatever it says

  1086. we all seem

  1087. to be somewhat

  1088. dialed in

1089. as much as we can be

  1090. bleary eyes

  1091. caffeine on board

  1092. right

  1093. but we're trying

  1094. we're all trying

  1095. in this room

  1096. the difference

  1097. will be made

  1098. in the balance

  1099. of this week

  1100. in the balance

  1101. of our life

  1102. what are we doing

  1103. what do we intend

  1104. to do

  1105. and James

  1106. plea with us

  1107. with me

  1108. and with you

  1109. is

  1110. look at that mirror

  1111. like your life

  1112. depends on it

  1113. I mean

  1114. consistently

  1115. aggressively

  1116. look at it

  1117. don't turn away

  1118. from it

  1119. look at it

  1120. with expectation

  1121. because you need

  1122. to actually

  1123. trust the Lord

  1124. to fix

  1125. what looks

  1126. misaligned

  1127. in that mirror

  1128. because that mirror

  1129. is telling you

  1130. the truth

  1131. and you and I

  1132. can be self-deceived

  1133. enough to go

  1134. well it's not

  1135. totally the truth

  1136. well it's not

  1137. that bad

  1138. I know that God

  1139. says that that form

  1140. of sin

  1141. is really vile

  1142. and it's going to

  1143. shipwreck my whole life

  1144. it's going to ruin

  1145. my experience

  1146. even if I am a believer

  1147. it's going to destroy

  1148. my relationships

  1149. but at the end

  1150. it's not that bad

  1151. I mean relationships

  1152. are hard

  1153. that's turning away

  1154. from the mirror

  1155. and forgetting

  1156. what you look like

  1157. what you saw

  1158. there

  1159. the interesting phrase

  1160. he uses

  1161. is this law

  1162. right

  1163. appearing to the law

  1164. and we're kind of

1165. back to what I said

  1166. about implanted word

  1167. now

  1168. the law

  1169. certainly for James

  1170. would have included

  1171. the Torah

  1172. alright

  1173. so the idea was

  1174. the rules

  1175. regulations

  1176. in the first five

  1177. books of the Bible

  1178. that certainly

  1179. he would have had

  1180. that in mind

  1181. but that can't be

1182. all he has in mind

  1183. he has something

  1184. actually much greater

  1185. in mind

  1186. here's why I say that

  1187. earlier in chapter one

  1188. he's already called it

  1189. the word of truth

  1190. he's used the word

1191. twice in this text already

  1192. he's clearly making

  1193. the law synonymous

  1194. with the word

1195. I guess the word is

  1196. it's everything

  1197. that God has given

  1198. his covenant people

  1199. in the Old Testament

  1200. in James writing

  1201. at this point

  1202. and everything

  1203. that Jesus

  1204. has done

  1205. to interpret it

  1206. expand it

  1207. and fulfill it

  1208. that's what

  1209. he's talking about

1210. so if we go back

  1211. to our quick

1212. like fly over the Bible

1213. from a few moments ago

  1214. Jesus is the one

  1215. that was promised

  1216. to do what

  1217. be a burden

  1218. to you

  1219. he was supposed

1220. to come and do what

1221. give me eight easy rules

  1222. to follow tomorrow

1223. so I can be a good person

  1224. on my own

1225. he came to rescue you

  1226. from death and hell

  1227. which you were

  1228. certainly headed toward

  1229. and if you were

  1230. outside of Christ

1231. you are still headed there

1232. that's what he came to do

1233. so that's why the law

1234. is a law of liberty

1235. a law in this sense

  1236. is meant to provide

  1237. absolute freedom

  1238. because it's the word

  1239. of the one

  1240. who's faithful to you

  1241. to sustain your life

  1242. and save it

  1243. for all eternity

  1244. that's what he intends

  1245. because he loves you

  1246. and cares for you

1247. his word is not a burden

  1248. it's the guidance

  1249. for life

1250. if you and I think

  1251. that applying it

  1252. is a burden

  1253. or an inconvenience

  1254. or just a downright

1255. pain in the rear end

  1256. that's on you

  1257. or me

  1258. it's not on God

  1259. that's your problem

  1260. it's my problem

  1261. it is never his

  1262. because he doesn't

  1263. have a problem

1264. you are not an inconvenience

  1265. to him

  1266. to the tune

  1267. of the blood

  1268. of his own son

  1269. he shed his blood

  1270. to secure your life

  1271. and mine

1272. if you hope in Jesus

  1273. how dare we

  1274. point the finger

  1275. at him

  1276. and say

  1277. do you really

  1278. care about me

  1279. do you really

  1280. love me

  1281. do you really

  1282. want what's good

  1283. for me

  1284. when I'm reading

  1285. these verses

  1286. without hesitation

  1287. every time

  1288. the answer is yes

  1289. even though

  1290. it's hard

  1291. sometimes

  1292. and it is

  1293. even though

  1294. it's difficult

  1295. to internalize

  1296. and take

  1297. he wants us

  1298. to stare

  1299. into this law

  1300. and recognize

  1301. the liberty

  1302. that's there

  1303. and again

  1304. I think this

  1305. is going back

  1306. to Jeremiah 31

  1307. but there's a third

  1308. question I think

  1309. we need to cover

  1310. how would we know

  1311. if we're doing this

  1312. like I think

  1313. he's told us

  1314. how to do it

  1315. receive

  1316. with meekness

  1317. like be humble

  1318. actually be

  1319. expectant

  1320. I want to hear

  1321. the word

1322. and I want to act

  1323. on it

  1324. so I'm motivated

  1325. to do it

  1326. but at the end

  1327. of the day

  1328. like how do I

  1329. take the test

1330. like how do I know

1331. because I like to know

  1332. before I confront

  1333. massive trials

  1334. in life

  1335. I like to know

  1336. before I face

  1337. today's temptation

1338. like how would we know

1339. if we were doing this

  1340. and so I think

  1341. he gives us

  1342. a handful of tests

  1343. he says

  1344. if anyone thinks

  1345. he is religious

  1346. and does not

  1347. bridle his tongue

  1348. but deceives his heart

  1349. this person's religion

  1350. is worthless

  1351. religion that is pure

  1352. and undefiled

  1353. before God

  1354. the father is this

  1355. to visit orphans

  1356. and widows

  1357. in their affliction

  1358. and to keep oneself

  1359. unstained

  1360. from the world

1361. he tries to help us

  1362. understand what it would

1363. look like to be faithful

  1364. what would it actually

  1365. look like for us

  1366. to be hearers

  1367. of the word

  1368. and expectancy

  1369. and doers actively

1370. what would that look like

1371. and I want to be

  1372. really clear

  1373. the tests he's going

  1374. to give us

  1375. they're three

  1376. they're not exhaustive

  1377. or comprehensive

  1378. some people talk

  1379. about this passage

  1380. and they go

  1381. that's the totality

  1382. of the Christian life

1383. is to do these three things

  1384. that's not what

  1385. James is saying

  1386. but let this

  1387. get in our business

  1388. a little bit

  1389. he's simply saying

  1390. without these three things

  1391. you definitely don't

  1392. have the Christian faith

  1393. well it doesn't mean

1394. you don't believe in Jesus

  1395. it just means

  1396. you're not being faithful

1397. to what it would look like

  1398. to be a disciple

  1399. if you're not doing

  1400. some measure

1401. or brand of these things

  1402. they're irreducible

  1403. in that way

1404. like this has got to be there

  1405. and they're broader

  1406. than what he says

1407. but I'll try to comment

  1408. on that for you

  1409. a little bit

1410. I think the first question

  1411. to ask

  1412. if we're going to

  1413. apply that there

  1414. do we speak

  1415. like renewed people

  1416. and let me cut

  1417. something off

  1418. at the past

  1419. this is not

  1420. do you cuss

  1421. less than everybody

  1422. else around you

  1423. okay

  1424. that's like the most

  1425. diminutive way

  1426. we could read this

  1427. alright

1428. should you be a person

  1429. that just like

  1430. wallows in profanity

  1431. I just think

  1432. that sounds

  1433. ignorant and undignified

  1434. and I'd probably

  1435. say that to you

  1436. if I wasn't

  1437. a believing person

  1438. it just sounds

  1439. immature

  1440. now you're going

  1441. to push back

  1442. some of you

  1443. and go

  1444. that's not bad

  1445. it's just words

  1446. okay

  1447. if I had your

  1448. four year old

  1449. stand up right now

  1450. and drop a bomb

  1451. right here

1452. would it just be a word

  1453. why are we uneasy

1454. with that all of a sudden

  1455. it's just a word

  1456. you teach them

  1457. all kinds of words

  1458. right

  1459. because they learn

  1460. that in your house

  1461. is that bad

  1462. this isn't about

  1463. cussing

  1464. again that's the easiest

  1465. way to read this

  1466. but I think

  1467. that's probably

  1468. in view

  1469. why

  1470. because of the

  1471. deeper issue here

  1472. do your words

  1473. reflect that your

  1474. hope is in Christ

  1475. and you want

  1476. dignity for yourself

  1477. and virtue for yourself

  1478. and everyone around you

  1479. who contacts you

1480. is that what you want

  1481. okay well then

  1482. the way we speak

  1483. to and about people

  1484. it absolutely

  1485. matters

  1486. absolutely

  1487. how you speak

  1488. about people

  1489. when they're not

  1490. in the room

  1491. are they safe

  1492. with you

  1493. when they're not

  1494. with you

  1495. are you looking

  1496. to kind of

  1497. edge out somebody

  1498. kind of chip away

  1499. at their reputation

  1500. because that's fun

  1501. and it endears you

  1502. to this other person

  1503. that you want

  1504. to be cool with

  1505. I'm talking to

  1506. every age group

  1507. but you and I

  1508. both know

  1509. whether you're in it

1510. now or you're in it

  1511. at some point

  1512. middle school

  1513. and high school

  1514. like that's a

  1515. constant temptation

  1516. I can make myself

  1517. a little bit better

  1518. like we all

  1519. jeer each other

  1520. anyway

  1521. and guys give each

  1522. other a hard time

  1523. I get that

  1524. alright

  1525. that's not what

  1526. I'm talking about

  1527. but are they safe

  1528. around you

  1529. do you speak

  1530. in such a way

  1531. that's honest

  1532. and has integrity

  1533. if God

  1534. speaks truth

  1535. and that's

  1536. his character

  1537. his people

  1538. are intended

  1539. to reflect truth

  1540. Jesus actually

  1541. says

  1542. from

  1543. out of the

  1544. heart

  1545. there's overflow

  1546. to your mouth

  1547. mouth you 12

  1548. so whatever's

  1549. in the well

  1550. is what comes

  1551. up when you

  1552. pull the bucket

  1553. up

  1554. so here's

  1555. the severe

  1556. question

  1557. like what

  1558. do you really

  1559. like on the

  1560. inside

  1561. well how

  1562. you talk

  1563. tells us

  1564. what you're

  1565. really like

  1566. on the

  1567. inside

  1568. Jesus is

  1569. very clear

  1570. about that

  1571. so what

  1572. what do you

  1573. say

  1574. what do you

  1575. withhold

  1576. what do you

  1577. make sure

  1578. you say

  1579. well in a

  1580. caring way

  1581. what do you

  1582. say directly

  1583. because it

  1584. aligns with

  1585. truth

  1586. the second

  1587. question is

  1588. do we care

  1589. for helpless

  1590. people

  1591. again

  1592. portraying the

  1593. character of

  1594. God

  1595. he is emphatic

  1596. in Psalm 68

  1597. he's a father

  1598. to the fatherless

  1599. that's meant

  1600. to be again

  1601. a more general

  1602. statement of

  1603. yes caring

  1604. for orphans

  1605. but it really

  1606. is to undercut

  1607. any notion

  1608. that you

  1609. and I

  1610. as believing

  1611. people should

  1612. not care

  1613. for people

  1614. who are

  1615. helpless

  1616. to care

  1617. for themselves

  1618. this is why

  1619. I care for

  1620. the pre-born

  1621. in the womb

  1622. and care for

  1623. those who

  1624. have been

  1625. born

  1626. and those

  1627. who are

  1628. suffering from

  1629. dementia

  1630. and are about

  1631. to die

  1632. that caring

  1633. for the whole

  1634. span of life

  1635. for those

  1636. who can't

  1637. care for

  1638. themselves

  1639. is never

  1640. a question

  1641. of if

  1642. but how

  1643. for believing

  1644. people

  1645. never a question

  1646. of if

  1647. but how

  1648. so how are we

  1649. caring for

  1650. widows

  1651. and orphans

  1652. those who are

  1653. mentally and

  1654. physically challenged

  1655. how are we

  1656. caring for those

  1657. who are

  1658. without income

  1659. how are we

  1660. caring for those

  1661. who can't seem

  1662. to socially

  1663. connect with

  1664. how are we

  1665. doing for

  1666. them

  1667. and thirdly

  1668. do we

  1669. live like

  1670. reconciled

  1671. people

  1672. but how do

  1673. we stay

  1674. unstained from

  1675. the world

  1676. what does he

  1677. even mean

  1678. by that

  1679. it's pretty

  1680. clear what he

  1681. means

  1682. what he

  1683. means is not

  1684. that you are

  1685. in the world

  1686. and ignore

  1687. the world

  1688. Jesus pretty

  1689. emphatically says

  1690. you're in the

  1691. world but you're

  1692. not of the

  1693. world

  1694. you're not to

  1695. turn your back

  1696. on your neighbor

  1697. who hates

  1698. Jesus

  1699. very much

  1700. the opposite

  1701. you're not to

  1702. be unfeeling

  1703. to tribal

  1704. peoples at the

  1705. other side of

  1706. the planet

  1707. who have no

  1708. access to the

  1709. gospel

  1710. because they're

  1711. not American

  1712. there's no

  1713. quarter for that

  1714. kind of nonsense

  1715. that's not gonna

  1716. work

  1717. the only people

  1718. who discredit

  1719. devalue

  1720. don't care about

  1721. and think you can

  1722. treat human beings

  1723. however you want

  1724. are people who

  1725. don't know

  1726. Jesus

  1727. because Jesus

  1728. has brought in

  1729. the most vile

  1730. people ever

  1731. at the expense

  1732. of his own

  1733. blood

  1734. and guess who

  1735. those people

  1736. were

  1737. I'm in the

  1738. front of the

  1739. line

  1740. what he means

  1741. here is you

  1742. cannot allow

  1743. worldly notions

  1744. of truth

  1745. reality

  1746. advancement

  1747. work

  1748. fill in the

  1749. blank

  1750. to guide what

  1751. you do

  1752. toward other

  1753. people

  1754. because it

  1755. will disallow

  1756. your hearing

  1757. and doing

  1758. of the word

  1759. Rwanda

  1760. is one of

  1761. the most

  1762. special places

  1763. in the world

  1764. to me

  1765. not because

  1766. I've spent

  1767. tons of time

  1768. there

  1769. but I spent

  1770. several weeks

  1771. there

  1772. in April

  1773. several years

  1774. ago

  1775. and April

  1776. was a dark

  1777. month

  1778. in Rwanda

  1779. April 94

  1780. what I remember

  1781. about that is

  1782. Kurt Cobain

  1783. committed suicide

  1784. and that's all

  1785. I remember

  1786. from that time

  1787. and that was

  1788. a horrible

  1789. story

  1790. and a horrible

  1791. circumstance

  1792. it was much

  1793. more difficult

  1794. the Rwandan

  1795. genocide

  1796. beginning in

  1797. early April

  1798. and running

  1799. a hundred

  1800. days

  1801. an estimated

  1802. half a million

  1803. Rwandans

  1804. were killed

  1805. by their own

  1806. neighbors

  1807. and government

  1808. officials

  1809. why

  1810. because they

  1811. had systematically

  1812. communicated

  1813. among the

  1814. primary

  1815. ethnicity

  1816. these people

  1817. are cockroaches

  1818. these people

  1819. need to be

  1820. exterminated

  1821. these people

  1822. will overtake

  1823. us

  1824. these people

  1825. will malign

  1826. us

  1827. and they

  1828. cultivated that

  1829. through what

  1830. they said

  1831. and communicated

  1832. and broadcasted

  1833. and they

  1834. made sure

  1835. to systematically

  1836. set up a

  1837. time

  1838. and they

  1839. carried out

  1840. the mass

  1841. slaughter

  1842. of their own

  1843. neighbors

  1844. to the tune

  1845. of at times

  1846. banging on the

  1847. gate next door

  1848. when they

  1849. came to the

  1850. door

  1851. they had

  1852. a machete

  1853. in hand

  1854. and they

  1855. met the

  1856. end of

  1857. their life

  1858. because they

  1859. answered the

  1860. gate

  1861. your own

  1862. neighbor

  1863. that you

  1864. lived next

  1865. to for

  1866. 20 years

  1867. and never

  1868. forget going

  1869. to those

  1870. memorial sites

  1871. and culturally

  1872. that contrast

  1873. couldn't be

  1874. more stark

  1875. see we

  1876. memorialized

  1877. through stone

  1878. and marble

  1879. with names

  1880. etched

  1881. right

  1882. you go to

  1883. those sites

  1884. like one

  1885. I visited

  1886. where they

  1887. ran all the

  1888. kids from

  1889. the school

  1890. house into

  1891. this one

  1892. building

  1893. they threw

  1894. grenades in

  1895. Molotov

  1896. cocktails

  1897. blew up

  1898. what they

  1899. could

  1900. when they

  1901. would run

  1902. back out

  1903. they would

  1904. fire at

  1905. the machine

  1906. guns

  1907. they'd run

  1908. them back

  1909. in

  1910. they'd repeat

  1911. the process

  1912. until they

  1913. were all

  1914. dead

  1915. they literally

  1916. just formed

  1917. scaffolding

  1918. and put rows

  1919. of skulls

  1920. femur bones

  1921. in there

  1922. that's the

  1923. memorial

  1924. so you walk

  1925. in and there's

  1926. still ash

  1927. and broken

  1928. bone on the

  1929. floor

  1930. and you got

  1931. skulls in

  1932. front of you

  1933. little skulls

  1934. children

  1935. incredibly horrifying

  1936. not the most

  1937. haunting thing

  1938. I heard

  1939. while I was

  1940. there

  1941. this is it

  1942. sat across

  1943. at lunch

  1944. from a

  1945. pastor

  1946. and he said

  1947. you gotta

  1948. understand man

  1949. we've heard

  1950. the bible

  1951. our whole

  1952. life

  1953. we believe

  1954. it

  1955. and we

  1956. can still

  1957. justify

  1958. that

  1959. genocide

  1960. we can

  1961. still tell

  1962. you why

  1963. it was

  1964. the right

  1965. thing

  1966. to do

  1967. that's

  1968. one of

  1969. the most

  1970. evil

  1971. things

  1972. I've

  1973. ever

  1974. heard

  1975. you talk

  1976. about

  1977. a chill

  1978. down

  1979. your

  1980. spine

  1981. that scared

  1982. me

  1983. to death

  1984. so you

  1985. you've

  1986. seen this

  1987. you've

  1988. read it

  1989. you've

  1990. heard it

  1991. good grief

  1992. you teach

  1993. it

  1994. man

  1995. but it

  1996. has no

  1997. effect

  1998. on what

  1999. you believe

  2000. to be

  2001. true

  2002. and right

  2003. about God

  2004. or other

  2005. human beings

  2006. at the end

  2007. of the day

  2008. and you

  2009. didn't even

  2010. bat an eye

  2011. at telling

  2012. me that

  2013. because he

  2014. thinks

  2015. somehow

  2016. that hearing

  2017. can be

  2018. disconnected

  2019. from doing

  2020. and so

  2021. this is a

  2022. haunting

  2023. moment

  2024. for us

  2025. too

  2026. isn't

  2027. it

  2028. because

  2029. we're

  2030. hearing

  2031. we're

  2032. hearing

  2033. right now

  2034. we've

  2035. been

  2036. hearing

  2037. right

  2038. now

  2039. we

  2040. continue

  2041. to hear

  2042. anytime

  2043. we

  2044. read

  2045. the

  2046. word

  2047. but I

  2048. think

  2049. the

  2050. question

  2051. that

  2052. we

  2053. have

  2054. to

  2055. ask

  2056. is

  2057. what

  2058. are we

  2059. going

  2060. to

  2061. do

  2062. so

  2063. I

  2064. need

  2065. to

  2066. pray

  2067. to

  2068. the

  2069. Lord

  2070. I

  2071. ask

  2072. you

  2073. pray

  2074. with

  2075. me

  2076. that

  2077. he

  2078. would

  2079. call

  2080. us

  2081. to be

  2082. hearers

  2083. and

  2084. doers

  2085. of

  2086. the

  2087. word

  2088. in

  2089. all

  2090. these

  2091. ways

  2092. that

  2093. he's

  2094. outlined

  2095. we

  2096. celebrate

  2097. the

  2098. fact

  2099. that

  2100. in

  2101. Christ

  2102. we

  2103. can

  2104. do

  2105. that

  2106. by

  2107. the

  2108. power

  2109. of

  2110. the

  2111. spirit

  2112. so

  2113. let's

  2114. pray

  2115. together

  2116. God

  2117. we

  2118. do

  2119. thank you

  2120. that

  2121. you

  2122. are

  2123. ever

  2124. faithful

  2125. to

  2126. us

  2127. we

  2128. thank you

  2129. that

  2130. you

  2131. don't

  2132. leave

  2133. us

  2134. even

  2135. though

  2136. we

  2137. are

  2138. certainly

  2139. disobedient

  2140. God

  2141. we're

  2142. confused

  2143. we

  2144. don't

  2145. know

  2146. what

  2147. to

  2148. do

  2149. and

  2150. we

  2151. know

  2152. what

  2153. to

  2154. do

  2155. we

  2156. choose

  2157. not

  2158. to

  2159. do

  2160. it

  2161. Lord

  2162. we

  2163. are

  2164. resistant

  2165. and

  2166. rebellious

  2167. at

  2168. points

  2169. and

  2170. we

  2171. need

  2172. you

  2173. Lord

  2174. to

  2175. care

  2176. for

  2177. us

  2178. we

  2179. need

  2180. you

  2181. by

  2182. your

  2183. spirit

  2184. to

  2185. sustain

  2186. us

  2187. thank

  2188. you

  2189. that

  2190. you

  2191. preserve

  2192. our

  2193. souls

  2194. and

  2195. you

  2196. save

  2197. us

  2198. God

  2199. by

  2200. faith

  2201. in

  2202. Jesus

  2203. so

  2204. I

  2205. would

  2206. pray

  2207. God

  2208. that

  2209. you

  2210. would

  2211. make

  2212. us

  2213. as

  2214. a

  2215. church

  2216. make

  2217. us

  2218. as

  2219. individual

  2220. men

  2221. women

  2222. and

  2223. children

  2224. who

  2225. are

  2226. believing

  2227. in

  2228. Jesus

  2229. to

  2230. aggressively

  2231. that

  2232. you

  2233. have

  2234. implanted

  2235. it

  2236. you

  2237. have

  2238. written

  2239. it

  2240. on

  2241. our

  2242. hearts

  2243. and

  2244. I

  2245. pray

  2246. that

  2247. by

  2248. the

  2249. spirit's

  2250. work

  2251. you

  2252. would

  2253. call

  2254. us

  2255. to

  2256. obedience

  2257. so

  2258. whatever

  2259. that

  2260. means

  2261. for

  2262. us

  2263. in

  2264. these

  2265. moments

  2266. in

  2267. this

  2268. day

  2269. in

  2270. the

  2271. balance

  2272. of

  2273. our

  2274. life

  2275. God

  2276. I

  2277. would

  2278. pray

  2279. by

  2280. the

  2281. work

  2282. of

  2283. your

  2284. spirit

  2285. for

  2286. the

  2287. glory

  2288. of

  2289. your

  2290. name

  2291. that

  2292. if

  2293. we

  2294. are

  2295. anything

  2296. we

  2297. are

  2298. hearers

  2299. and

  2300. doers

  2301. of

  2302. your

  2303. that

  2304. Jesus

  2305. is

  2306. our

  2307. savior

  2308. we

  2309. pray

  2310. these

  2311. things

  2312. in

  2313. his

  2314. name

  2315. amen

  2316. thanks
