  1. Welcome to the Willow Ridge Sermons podcast.

  2. We're so glad you chose to listen today.

  3. In this message, we reflect on the journey of the wise men and the faith lessons they teach us.

  4. Their wisdom is seen in their pursuit of Jesus, their recognition of his worth, and their humble worship.

  5. Join us as we explore how the wise men's devotion challenges us to seek Christ, honor him with our lives, and obey his calling above all else.

  6. Thanks for listening.

  7. Well, good morning.

  8. If you have your Bibles, and I hope you do, I want to invite you to join me in Matthew chapter 2.

    Matthew 2 chapter mention

  9. I hope each and every one of you had the opportunity to enjoy some of the wonderful goodies that were out there this morning.

  10. I want to thank every single person for coming who were able to provide those for us.

  11. So, normally, I don't eat on Sunday mornings.

  12. I'm on a steady diet of caffeine from early in the morning.

  13. And today was a steady diet of caffeine and sugar.

  14. Right?

  15. So, here's my goal.

  16. Right?

  17. I'm going to probably try to have to slow down a little bit the way that I talk.

  18. And I'm going to ask that you guys don't experience your sugar crash until you get home this afternoon.

  19. So, if you feel like I'm about to, like, my sugar's crashing, I need to go do, go out there, like, hammer a couple of cinnamon rolls, come back in here, and you'll be good.

  20. But, see, it's just a wonderful opportunity for us to gather together as a church.

  21. Not that simply gathering together to worship and to open God's Word is insufficient, because it's not insufficient.

  22. This is what God calls us to do, and I'm so grateful that we have the opportunity to do that as well.

  23. But, on special occasions like this, it's just so wonderful for us in the busyness of life, in all of the chaos that is happening around us,

  24. to be able to come together as a family, as a church family, and experience that together.

  25. So, thank you all for being here this morning and for doing that.

  26. With that said, just a reminder, these were in those videos, you guys have heard this,

  27. but our Christmas Eve service at 530, we'd love everyone will be in here.

  28. It'll be loud, it'll be noisy, it'll be shorter than a normal service,

  29. and it'll be a wonderful time for us to gather together, to take the Lord's Supper together,

  30. to acknowledge Christ and His work and remember that, and to celebrate again as a family, all of us.

  31. And then our New Year's prayer service that we'll have on December 29th.

  32. So, if this was heavy on the sugar, we're going heavy on the protein, right?

  33. So, we'll have bacon and sausage and eggs and all those things next Sunday.

  34. And so, we'd love for you to be here with us, 950s, and we'll start breakfast again.

  35. That's everybody in the room.

  36. If you can help us out by registering, that is really important for us,

  37. that we can make sure that we have enough food here for everyone that morning.

  38. Now, something a little bit different.

  39. After the service is over with, we will go into a special called business meeting for church members,

  40. for us to be able to vote on the budget for next year.

  41. So, if you're a church member, prepare, just kind of hang tight.

  42. Dave's going to come up on stage.

  43. It doesn't take us long to walk through that, but we want to make sure that you hold on to that

  44. and that you, Dave will dismiss everyone who's not a church member so that we can vote.

  45. So, you'll want to make sure that you hang around for that.

  46. And with that said, if you are a first-time guest, we count it as a privilege and honor that you're here.

  47. Maybe you're in town visiting some families for the holiday season.

  48. Maybe you're here because you're checking out our church and you're visiting us and you're looking for a new church home.

  49. Whatever the reason that you find yourself here today, we count it as a blessing and an honor and a privilege

  50. that you would decide to worship with us.

  51. And you'll notice there's some QR codes on the backs of the chairs in front of you.

  52. At some point in time, maybe even right now during the service, if you would scan that,

  53. you can give us just a little bit of information just so we have a record that you were here.

  54. But then after the service is over with, okay, while the business meeting is happening,

  55. I will be out in the main lobby in the front.

  56. And if you wouldn't mind for our first-time guest, if you wouldn't mind stopping by,

  57. would love to just shake your hand to meet you and to thank you for being here and for worshiping with us.

  58. I want to read to you, we'll be in Matthew 2, but I want to read to you James 1.17 this morning

  59. as we set our hearts for God's Word.

  60. This is every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights,

  61. with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

  62. Would you pray with me?

  63. God, we come to you this morning, Lord, and we thank you for what a privilege and honor it is to gather together.

  64. Father, I thank you for this church.

  65. I thank you for this church family.

  66. I thank you for this opportunity to gather in fellowship, to gather in worship, Father, and to gather in studying your Word.

  67. God, as we study, as I preach, God, I pray that this would not be of me and my heart and my thoughts and my motivations,

  68. but God, it would be of you and it would be of your will and it would be of your heart and your words.

  69. Lord, may you teach us, may you guide us in the power of your Holy Spirit, Lord, and instruct us and change us.

  70. And Father, if there's anyone here who does not know you, I pray that today they would put their faith, hope, and trust in your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

  71. And it's in his name we pray, amen, amen.

  72. Today's theme, today what we're going to look at, and in the telling of the biblical story, the biblical narrative of the wise men,

  73. we're going to have this kind of this theme of gifts.

  74. It's what we think about, it's oftentimes where Christian tradition has come from, but around the Christmas season that we give gifts and do that.

  75. So in this, we're, this is kind of the theme that we're going to look at this morning.

  76. I found it, I chuckled a little bit.

  77. I was outside loading my face up with cinnamon sugar donuts this morning.

  78. Van Ham looked at me and he was like, hey man, right?

  79. All right, you've got it right here.

  80. And I looked at him and I said, I know.

  81. And then I think it was Brent Hawkins said, oh, he's saving that for later, right?

  82. And I came inside though to get ready to pull my message up on my iPad and I go through my email to do that.

  83. And I just sent my sermon through there.

  84. And then, but the email that popped up right before that, just in case you were wondering, was Amazon.

  85. And it said, it's not too late, right?

  86. Last minute, click here.

  87. So we're surrounded by the pressure, the obligation, the opportunity, the joy of this time of year to give gifts.

  88. And what I love is as we think, we got the kids in here and there's the excitement of this time of season of what they think through.

  89. In fact, I was talking to one of our elementary school kids just a second ago and was talking about being excited and immediately went in to tell me about what they get to do and where they get to go and all the different gifts that they get to open.

  90. But we're going to look at this opportunity that we see, this beautiful true story coming out of Bethlehem of the wise men who bring gifts to Jesus.

  91. So let's begin reading Matthew chapter 2.

    Matthew 2 chapter mention

  92. We're going to read all the way through verses 1 through 12.

  93. And God's word says this.

  94. Now, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,

  95. Where is he who has been born of the Jews?

  96. For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.

  97. When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him.

  98. And assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people.

  99. He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

  100. And they told him in Bethlehem of Judea.

  101. For so it is written by the prophet.

  102. And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah are by no means least among the rulers of Judah.

  103. For from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people, Israel.

  104. Verse 7.

  105. When Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared,

  106. and he sent them to Bethlehem, saying,

  107. Go and search diligently for the child.

  108. And when you have found him, bring me word that I too may come and worship him.

  109. After listening to the king, they went on their way.

  110. And behold, the star that had been seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was.

  111. And when they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

  112. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him.

  113. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

  114. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod,

  115. they departed to their own country by another way.

  116. Let's understand some of the details concerning the birth and the early days and months of Jesus' life.

  117. Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

  118. You and I here at Bethlehem, we sing songs about Bethlehem.

  119. We know about Bethlehem.

  120. In fact, several years ago, Aaron and I had some friends who lived in the real place of Bethlehem.

  121. And it's a small city, as we know, it's a small city, about six miles south of Jerusalem.

  122. And this was the place of birth for King David.

  123. While this place carries significance and importance for us,

  124. in the time of Christ, this was not a city of significance.

  125. This was not a city of influence.

  126. But yet, what we see happening in this story from the birth of Christ to what we find now,

  127. the wise men coming to see Jesus, is this insignificant setting is carrying individuals in a story of great significance.

  128. During this time, there is a ruler who ruled over the area by the name of Herod.

  129. And this can get a little confusing because we'll see throughout history different Herods.

  130. But this Herod was referred to as Herod the Great.

  131. And he was great.

  132. If you acknowledge that his greatness is a little bit complicated.

  133. He was seen by peers and adversaries to be a great ruler in areas of politics, in areas of administration, in areas of building and construction, and many other ways.

  134. He oversaw building projects.

  135. Where some of those buildings still stand today, he's written about and studied.

  136. During his rule and reign, the region in which he oversaw suffered one of the worst famines today on record.

  137. And you look at what he was able to do, and he provided famine relief to many.

  138. And even those during the day who opposed him go on historical record, not biblical record, I'm sorry, but go on historical record to commend him of his decision making and the things that he was able to accomplish and that he was able to do.

  139. However, with all that said, we said he was great, but his greatness was complicated.

  140. He was a man that his cruelty was great as well.

  141. Before the birth of Christ, Herod, who was already had a bent toward cruelty, suffered an illness that caused him to have various mental struggles.

  142. And the way that these mental struggles began to manifest in his life is he was a man who was constantly bombarded with thoughts of paranoia.

  143. And very specifically, this paranoia was geared toward the Jewish people that he ruled over.

  144. And very specifically, within those Jewish people, a threat that one day that one of them would come and take his throne, take his rule, take his reign.

  145. And again, we begin to see and understand the situation that we find us in.

  146. I thought this was interesting.

  147. I read this this week, speaking to the cruelty of Herod.

  148. There's a Roman emperor whose name was Augustus.

  149. And here's a quote from Augustus concerning Herod.

  150. He said this, it would have been safer to be Herod's pig than it was to be Herod's son.

  151. As he wanted to make sure that no one, no one could take what is his.

  152. But this morning, while Bethlehem is greatly significant, this morning, while Herod is definitely significant in the telling of the story,

  153. we're largely going to focus on this group of individuals known as the wise men.

  154. As the wise men.

  155. But who are they?

  156. Who are these kind of mysterious group of men who show up in the narrative of the telling of the birth, of the story of the early days of Christ?

  157. I think it's important for us to understand some things about them.

  158. Traditionally, what we have seen, traditionally, what we have heard,

  159. traditionally, what has been common thought in the telling of the story in the churches,

  160. is that there were three of them.

  161. But the truth is, we don't know if there were three of them or not.

  162. We don't know if there was more than three.

  163. We don't know if there was exactly three.

  164. The number three comes because what you just saw, there were three gifts that were given.

  165. So that's a number that's there.

  166. But the truth is, we don't know how large this group of men who have traveled from a great distance,

  167. we'll understand in just a second, are.

  168. But we know that they were wise men who came and who traveled,

  169. and there was a group of them who did this.

  170. The Bible tells us that they came after Jesus was born.

  171. They did not come on the same night as the shepherds.

  172. In fact, they probably came months later to see Jesus.

  173. While Joseph, Mary, and Jesus were still in Bethlehem.

  174. The Bible tells us that they traveled from the east.

  175. And many believe that these wise men who have traveled from the east

  176. were actually exiled Jewish men who lived in what we would come to know as modern-day Iran.

  177. And this means their journey would be about 800 to 900 miles.

  178. If you want to know what it's like to travel 800 to 900 miles at about 3 o'clock today,

  179. get on 378 from I-20 and head toward Walmart.

  180. When you get to Walmart, right, that's about what it would have felt like to make that distance.

  181. It's a long, long ways.

  182. But the Bible tells us the word that's used is magi.

  183. And we've translated that kings, and it's close, but it's very specific with the type.

  184. And it's that these were literally wise men.

  185. They were highly educated, probably in the area of astronomy, specifically,

  186. but not just the area of astronomy.

  187. They'd have been highly educated in the area of mathematics and the sciences.

  188. So what we have are literally a group of individuals who have made this long trip.

  189. They've made this long journey.

  190. They are wise men, even in the world standards.

  191. They would look at them and their mental capability of what they've studied,

  192. of what they've journeyed, of what they've known, of what they have,

  193. as they're applying what they have in order to be able to make this journey as they follow a star.

  194. It's pretty sharp, fellas.

  195. The Bible tells us that they come bringing Jesus' gifts.

  196. Very specifically, the Bible gives us the gifts that they brought.

  197. They brought gold that translates well in our day.

  198. If you're wondering what would be a gift that would wow someone, gold, right?

  199. And they bring this gift to Jesus.

  200. They also bring frankincense.

  201. Frankincense was a white resin that would be used during worship in the temple to be burned.

  202. Incense.

  203. So they brought gold.

  204. They brought frankincense.

  205. I'm like, okay, I can definitely get behind the gold.

  206. The frankincense, okay, that's different.

  207. But okay.

  208. And they brought myrrh, which would have been a spice that would be used in the embalming process.

  209. You're like, okay, you got me on that one, right?

  210. I'm like, fellas, just telling you, for the lady in your life, right?

  211. If you're in that panic mode, number one, get on Amazon right now.

  212. Like, you've got my permission.

  213. They still can get it there.

  214. But don't, like, look up embalming fluid.

  215. She's not going to like that, right?

  216. But all of these gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh, all of these gifts, highly valuable, and they bring them to Jesus.

  217. And this kind of paints this picture of what we do.

  218. This brings us this picture of who we are to be as people, of what we not just gather in this time of year

  219. and take packages and wrap them with paper and put them on bows, and we get cards and write them,

  220. and we give them to friends and family to do this.

  221. But it's also the telling of the story that God is good and that God gives to us.

  222. And it's why we begin in James 1, 17, of this time of the year is the reminder that we don't just gather

  223. and we think about the gift of Christ once a year, but it is a day in, day out, 365-day,

  224. beautiful reminder of the gift of God's goodness, the gift of God's grace, the gift of God's salvation,

  225. which is not found in you, it's not found in your works, it's not found in your capability,

  226. and it's not found in mine either, but God's goodness of His grace and His gift in Christ Jesus

  227. is found in Christ and Christ alone.

  228. And He continues every single day of more and more to pour out His gifts on us.

  229. And we are blessed, we are blessed, and then God calls us to be givers, and we gift one another,

  230. but we also, we take what God has given us, and we give it back to Him.

  231. We give it back to Him.

  232. You know, when you think you're hearing me say that, you're like, okay, well here we go on tithing,

  233. and sure, yeah, we take what God has given us, and we take a portion of that, and we bring it in our tithes,

  234. in our offerings, and we give it back to Him, but the beauty when we become givers,

  235. and we understand what that means, is that we understand as givers that we're stewards,

  236. and that all that we have, every single bit of it, not 10%, but 100% is His,

  237. and in all of it, we do what God has called us to do, in every single aspect of it.

  238. We use our gifts, we use our talents, we use our time, we use it all for Him.

  239. And that's what He called us to be.

  240. But specifically, it's just thinking through, like, what is the gift that we can kind of think of within this?

  241. I thought about, in this, with the wise men, the gift of wisdom.

  242. The gift of wisdom.

  243. Of what God gives us.

  244. Of what God calls us to.

  245. God's Word promises that those who trust God, those who put their faith in God,

  246. that those who seek God, that God, in turn, will give them wisdom.

  247. It's not obtained through a degree.

  248. It's not connected to your intellectual capabilities.

  249. But that God, the greatest giver,

  250. it's who He is,

  251. and we are recipients of that,

  252. that He gives,

  253. and He gives wisdom.

  254. James 1.5 says,

  255. if any of you lacks wisdom,

  256. like, you ever feel like you fall into that?

  257. Like, that's me?

  258. If any of you lacks wisdom,

  259. let him ask God,

  260. who gives generously to all without reproach,

  261. and it will be given to him.

  262. In the context of this,

  263. James is writing,

  264. and he's encouraging the men and the women of the faith

  265. who are facing unbelievable trials

  266. that you and I cannot possibly fathom.

  267. And he says,

  268. during this,

  269. as you're desperate of what to do,

  270. how to handle,

  271. how to move forward,

  272. like, ask God in faith.

  273. God, this is not dependent on me.

  274. God, this is not dependent on my problem-solving capabilities.

  275. God, this is not dependent on my mental fortitude.

  276. God, this is not dependent on my own moral capabilities.

  277. But God, this is dependent on you.

  278. God, and in faith, Lord,

  279. I need your wisdom.

  280. I need your wisdom.

  281. And God's word says to ask,

  282. and he's generous,

  283. and it will be given.

  284. Proverbs 2, 6 says,

  285. for the Lord gives wisdom.

  286. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

  287. Right?

  288. But that's God.

  289. God is our source of wisdom,

  290. that all of the powerfulness of wisdom

  291. comes from the combination of the knowledge

  292. and the understanding that God gives us.

  293. It's why the greatest mind

  294. to study God's word

  295. that I've ever had the privilege

  296. to sit at their feet

  297. was a man who barely graduated high school,

  298. who grew up a dirt poor farmer

  299. in Abbeville, South Carolina,

  300. who was not going to wow anyone

  301. with his ability to read

  302. or formulate mathematical equations

  303. or get into a theological debate.

  304. But I could sit at the feet of my grandfather

  305. and hear the wisdom of God's word

  306. as you have the knowledge

  307. and the understanding

  308. because it came from God.

  309. Proverbs 2, 6

  310. says, for the Lord gives wisdom.

  311. From his mouth

  312. come knowledge

  313. and understanding.

  314. The Lord gives.

  315. The Lord gives.

  316. The Lord gives.

  317. Psalm 111, 10.

  318. The fear of the Lord

  319. is the beginning

  320. of wisdom.

  321. All those who practice it

  322. have a good understanding.

  323. His praise endures forever.

  324. Grayson's at home today.

  325. He's not feeling well.

  326. If y'all could pray for him,

  327. that'd be great.

  328. So he's watching this right now

  329. on the live stream.

  330. And so I'm going to confess

  331. something to him.

  332. We were talking about

  333. and I taught him

  334. how to play spades last night.

  335. So we sat around the table

  336. and we were playing spades

  337. and we were there

  338. and I was talking about

  339. how the points

  340. were divided out.

  341. And it was afterwards.

  342. And it was just me and him

  343. and again,

  344. he's kind of wrapping his mind

  345. around all of it.

  346. And he said,

  347. so you mean to tell me

  348. it's like a,

  349. and then he used a word

  350. that I've never heard of

  351. in my entire life.

  352. And then he said,

  353. formula.

  354. And that's how this happens?

  355. And in that moment,

  356. I was afraid

  357. to let him know

  358. that he knew more than I did.

  359. And that I was petrified

  360. to admit that.

  361. And I said,

  362. exactly.

  363. Like,

  364. now you're getting it, boy.

  365. Right?

  366. That's it.

  367. I could not have said it

  368. any better myself.

  369. The fear of the Lord

  370. is the beginning of wisdom.

  371. And here's

  372. what the psalmist

  373. means when he says this.

  374. Is that

  375. in our proper,

  376. in true wisdom,

  377. proper wisdom,

  378. the wisdom of God's word,

  379. it comes

  380. from this fear

  381. of the Lord.

  382. And if you're here

  383. this morning

  384. and you're not

  385. a follower

  386. of Jesus Christ

  387. and you're like,

  388. well man,

  389. I don't know

  390. that I want to follow

  391. a God

  392. that I'm afraid of.

  393. Well,

  394. that's not

  395. what that word means.

  396. What we mean

  397. by fear

  398. of the Lord,

  399. it's an awe,

  400. it's an awesomeness

  401. of who he is,

  402. and it's submission

  403. to that.

  404. It's a mind

  405. that's blown away

  406. by his goodness

  407. and who he is.

  408. It is a depth

  409. of respect,

  410. it is a depth

  411. of mind-blowing,

  412. unbelievable goodness

  413. that when we stand

  414. before him

  415. and his holiness,

  416. the only thing

  417. we can do

  418. is say,

  419. I give up.

  420. I give up

  421. and I'm yours.

  422. And we begin

  423. to see this.

  424. So,

  425. we got these

  426. three guys

  427. and we're getting

  428. back to these wise men.

  429. what made the wise men

  430. wise?

  431. What made the wise men

  432. wise?

  433. Educated

  434. beyond

  435. what you and I

  436. would be capable of.

  437. The closest thing

  438. that I would compare

  439. these guys to

  440. is they are

  441. Harvard-level

  442. PhD

  443. after PhD

  444. after PhD

  445. students.

  446. And that may

  447. have been

  448. why the world

  449. would have said

  450. that they were wise.

  451. But we can find

  452. from this story

  453. some aspects

  454. about them

  455. that did not come

  456. from their

  457. earthly education

  458. but came

  459. from their

  460. submission,

  461. from their fear,

  462. from their

  463. understanding,

  464. from their submission

  465. to God.

  466. Five aspects

  467. that we see

  468. in this story

  469. that caused

  470. us to say

  471. beyond your

  472. understanding

  473. of mathematics

  474. and science,

  475. here is the

  476. wisdom of men

  477. who have submitted

  478. themselves

  479. before a holy

  480. God.

  481. And there are

  482. things that you

  483. and I,

  484. regardless of

  485. where we find

  486. ourselves this

  487. morning,

  488. simplicity

  489. of truth

  490. can take,

  491. can hold

  492. into our

  493. hearts

  494. and in the

  495. power of the

  496. Holy Spirit

  497. begin to

  498. implement

  499. in our

  500. lives.

  501. And we

  502. too,

  503. we too

  504. can be

  505. wise.

  506. Number one,

  507. they read

  508. and believed

  509. God's word.

  510. They read

  511. and believed

  512. God's word.

  513. In this

  514. interaction

  515. in Matthew

    Matthew 2 chapter mention

  516. chapter 2,

  517. we see

  518. evidence

  519. of two

  520. times where

  521. they begin

  522. in the telling

  523. of their

  524. story of

  525. what they

  526. are doing,

  527. of why

  528. they are

  529. on the

  530. journey,

  531. of why

  532. they've

  533. come from

  534. modern day

  535. for us,

  536. Iran,

  537. to this

  538. little,

  539. nothing,

  540. insignificant

  541. town,

  542. 800 to

  543. 900 miles

  544. away.

  545. Because they

  546. followed a

  547. star.

  548. Followed a

  549. star,

  550. well why

  551. this star?

  552. Why not

  553. another star?

  554. There's theories,

  555. there's people

  556. that have argued

  557. about the

  558. different stars

  559. and where

  560. the star

  561. could have

  562. been,

  563. but here's

  564. what I think

  565. is important

  566. and I

  567. apologize

  568. that these

  569. verses are

  570. not on the

  571. screen,

  572. so if you

  573. want to

  574. jot the

  575. references

  576. down,

  577. the first

  578. one is

  579. Numbers

  580. 24,

  581. 17.

  582. It says,

  583. I see

  584. him,

  585. but not

  586. now.

  587. I behold

  588. him,

  589. but not

  590. near.

  591. A star

  592. shall come

  593. out of

  594. Jacob,

  595. and the

  596. scepter shall

  597. rise out

  598. of Israel,

  599. and it

  600. shall crush

  601. the forehead

  602. of Moab

  603. and break

  604. down the

  605. sons of

  606. Sheth.

  607. Right?

  608. The promise

  609. of a star

  610. and the

  611. promise of

  612. a savior

  613. and the

  614. journey of

  615. which it

  616. will come.

  617. You see,

  618. the star

  619. is not

  620. just this

  621. piece of

  622. what's there

  623. and the

  624. prophecy

  625. of a

  626. being in

  627. the sky,

  628. not a

  629. being,

  630. I'm sorry,

  631. of a

  632. star in

  633. the sky,

  634. but a

  635. baby born

  636. in a

  637. manger.

  638. And so

  639. they read

  640. that and

  641. they believed

  642. it.

  643. But it

  644. also would

  645. point them

  646. to a

  647. person in

  648. a place

  649. in Micah

  650. 5,

  651. 2.

  652. But you,

  653. O Bethlehem,

  654. Ephrathah,

  655. who were

  656. too little

  657. to be

  658. among the

  659. clans

  660. of

  661. Judah.

  662. From

  663. you

  664. shall

  665. come

  666. forth

  667. for

  668. me

  669. one

  670. who

  671. is

  672. to be

  673. ruler

  674. in

  675. Israel,

  676. whose

  677. coming

  678. forth

  679. is from

  680. old,

  681. from

  682. ancient

  683. days.

  684. So these

  685. were men

  686. who gathered,

  687. who took

  688. the

  689. scripture

  690. that they

  691. had access

  692. to,

  693. not the

  694. whole

  695. thing,

  696. but the

  697. part that

  698. they had

  699. the access

  700. to.

  701. And they

  702. said,

  703. this is what

  704. God's

  705. word is,

  706. so this

  707. is what

  708. we'll

  709. believe,

  710. but not

  711. just that

  712. we'll

  713. believe it,

  714. but we'll

  715. act on

  716. it.

  717. But we'll

  718. act on

  719. it.

  720. You see,

  721. the wisdom

  722. that we

  723. see from

  724. these wise

  725. men are

  726. not just

  727. that they

  728. read and

  729. that they

  730. understood,

  731. it's that

  732. they read,

  733. it's that

  734. they believed,

  735. and it's

  736. that they

  737. acted.

  738. You know,

  739. we're getting

  740. ready to go

  741. into the

  742. new year.

  743. One of the

  744. things that

  745. people commit

  746. to every

  747. single year,

  748. I'm one of

  749. you,

  750. is I

  751. desire and

  752. I commit

  753. to spend

  754. more time

  755. in God's

  756. word.

  757. And I

  758. will say

  759. to you,

  760. we need

  761. to do

  762. that.

  763. If you're

  764. ever wondering,

  765. should I

  766. spend more

  767. time in

  768. God's

  769. word?

  770. The answer

  771. to that

  772. is yes.

  773. Yes,

  774. you should.

  775. Yes,

  776. spend more

  777. time.

  778. It's never

  779. going to

  780. fail you.

  781. It's never

  782. a waste

  783. of your

  784. time.

  785. And what

  786. I love

  787. is that

  788. you and

  789. I can

  790. take in

  791. God's

  792. word in

  793. so many

  794. different

  795. ways.

  796. We can

  797. read it,

  798. we can

  799. listen to

  800. it,

  801. we can

  802. get

  803. emails

  804. that send

  805. us

  806. reminders,

  807. we can

  808. get text

  809. messages

  810. that send

  811. us

  812. reminders,

  813. we got

  814. apps on

  815. our phone

  816. that will

  817. send

  818. those to

  819. us as

  820. well,

  821. like over

  822. and over

  823. and over

  824. again.

  825. We can

  826. obtain,

  827. we can

  828. consume,

  829. we can

  830. read and

  831. then be

  832. given God's

  833. word.

  834. But the

  835. question is

  836. when we

  837. do this,

  838. are we

  839. just going

  840. to read

  841. it,

  842. are we

  843. going to

  844. acknowledge

  845. mentally

  846. that yes,

  847. this is

  848. right,

  849. or do we

  850. take the

  851. fullness

  852. of wisdom

  853. and in

  854. submission

  855. and obedience

  856. say if

  857. this is

  858. true,

  859. then this

  860. is who

  861. I am.

  862. If this

  863. is true,

  864. then this

  865. is what

  866. God's

  867. called me

  868. to.

  869. You see,

  870. these wise

  871. men were

  872. wise because

  873. they read,

  874. because they

  875. believed,

  876. and because

  877. they acted.

  878. And when

  879. they acted,

  880. the second

  881. thing that

  882. they did

  883. was they

  884. sought

  885. Jesus.

  886. They sought

  887. Jesus.

  888. See,

  889. their study

  890. brought them

  891. to Jesus.

  892. And very

  893. simply,

  894. in their

  895. journey,

  896. Jesus was

  897. enough.

  898. They didn't

  899. come seeking

  900. relief,

  901. seeking answers,

  902. seeking agendas

  903. to be met,

  904. seeking

  905. predetermined

  906. outcomes.

  907. They just

  908. simply came

  909. looking for

  910. Jesus.

  911. And when

  912. they found

  913. him,

  914. he was

  915. enough.

  916. He was

  917. enough.

  918. Have you

  919. ever been

  920. looking for

  921. something,

  922. and when

  923. you found

  924. it,

  925. it wasn't

  926. what you

  927. expected?

  928. the wise

  929. men

  930. were very

  931. clear.

  932. They came

  933. looking for

  934. a king,

  935. and instead

  936. they found

  937. a baby.

  938. They came

  939. looking for

  940. a royal

  941. family,

  942. but instead

  943. found a

  944. poor family.

  945. My assumption

  946. is they

  947. came with

  948. an expectation,

  949. but walked

  950. away very

  951. simply with

  952. Jesus being

  953. enough.

  954. I wish I

  955. could tell

  956. you in

  957. truth that

  958. every struggle,

  959. every difficulty,

  960. every hurt,

  961. every pain,

  962. every bit

  963. of suffering.

  964. Boy, I

  965. wish that

  966. you could

  967. just bring

  968. it, and

  969. we could

  970. say a

  971. prayer, and

  972. wave our

  973. hand over

  974. it, and

  975. it would

  976. just disappear

  977. and go

  978. away.

  979. But if

  980. you've been

  981. a believer,

  982. faithfully

  983. following Jesus,

  984. you know

  985. that that's

  986. not the case

  987. that we

  988. just saw

  989. in James.

  990. James to

  991. a group

  992. of men

  993. and women

  994. who are

  995. suffering

  996. for the

  997. Lord, and

  998. his message

  999. is endure,

  1000. endure,

  1001. endure.

  1002. He is

  1003. good.

  1004. He is

  1005. faithful.

  1006. Endure,

  1007. endure.

  1008. It's the

  1009. message of

  1010. the New

  1011. Testament.

  1012. Endure.

  1013. And the

  1014. question that

  1015. I have for

  1016. you is

  1017. this.

  1018. If you

  1019. come to

  1020. Jesus,

  1021. and you've

  1022. got your

  1023. agenda,

  1024. if you

  1025. come to

  1026. Jesus,

  1027. and you've

  1028. got your

  1029. predetermined

  1030. plan,

  1031. is Jesus

  1032. going to be

  1033. enough?

  1034. Is he

  1035. going to be

  1036. enough?

  1037. My fear is

  1038. for so many

  1039. of us.

  1040. Our belief

  1041. is attached

  1042. to Jesus

  1043. plus my

  1044. expectations.

  1045. Jesus

  1046. plus my

  1047. desires.

  1048. Jesus

  1049. plus my

  1050. wants.

  1051. Jesus

  1052. plus my

  1053. healing.

  1054. And when

  1055. this side

  1056. of the

  1057. equation,

  1058. on this

  1059. side of

  1060. eternity,

  1061. doesn't

  1062. come true,

  1063. then the

  1064. misbelief

  1065. that you

  1066. have is

  1067. that Jesus

  1068. has failed.

  1069. And the

  1070. hope of

  1071. the gospel

  1072. should bring

  1073. us to the

  1074. truth that

  1075. Jesus is

  1076. enough.

  1077. The third

  1078. thing,

  1079. that the

  1080. wise men

  1081. do,

  1082. that display

  1083. their wisdom,

  1084. is they

  1085. recognized

  1086. the worth

  1087. of Jesus.

  1088. They gave

  1089. gifts.

  1090. We talked

  1091. about it.

  1092. Probably a

  1093. little strange,

  1094. right?

  1095. Like imagine

  1096. being Mary,

  1097. right?

  1098. She's like,

  1099. oh,

  1100. fantastic.

  1101. Gold.

  1102. Oh,

  1103. the next

  1104. one,

  1105. frankincense.

  1106. Okay.

  1107. Myrrh.

  1108. This just

  1109. got weird

  1110. a little

  1111. bit,

  1112. right?

  1113. But they

  1114. recognized

  1115. the worth,

  1116. the heavenly

  1117. worth of

  1118. Jesus.

  1119. If you've

  1120. ever wondered

  1121. why,

  1122. why gold,

  1123. why frankincense,

  1124. why myrrh?

  1125. And what I

  1126. believe is

  1127. only the

  1128. working power

  1129. of the Holy

  1130. Spirit,

  1131. of God,

  1132. in the lives

  1133. of this group

  1134. of men,

  1135. as they

  1136. journey to

  1137. see a king

  1138. that they've

  1139. longed for,

  1140. that they've

  1141. studied about,

  1142. that they've

  1143. hoped for,

  1144. that in the

  1145. working of

  1146. that,

  1147. that what God

  1148. does in their

  1149. lives is God

  1150. ordains and

  1151. has them bring

  1152. these gifts.

  1153. And it

  1154. displays the

  1155. worth and

  1156. the value

  1157. and the

  1158. essence of

  1159. who Jesus

  1160. is.

  1161. They bring

  1162. gold,

  1163. a precious

  1164. metal.

  1165. Do you

  1166. know who

  1167. you brought

  1168. gold to?

  1169. You didn't

  1170. bring gold

  1171. to a

  1172. carpenter's

  1173. boy.

  1174. You didn't

  1175. bring gold

  1176. to a virgin

  1177. son.

  1178. You didn't

  1179. bring gold

  1180. to Bethlehem.

  1181. You brought

  1182. gold to a

  1183. king.

  1184. And so as

  1185. they show up,

  1186. they're showing

  1187. up, and

  1188. they're like,

  1189. man, you're

  1190. a baby.

  1191. You're

  1192. oohing and

  1193. gooing and

  1194. all that stuff,

  1195. right?

  1196. It's baby

  1197. time.

  1198. But you're

  1199. king, and

  1200. you're king

  1201. Jesus.

  1202. And so they

  1203. brought frankincense.

  1204. They brought

  1205. the incense that

  1206. was burned in

  1207. the temple during

  1208. worship, so that

  1209. when you smelled

  1210. the smell that

  1211. would come from

  1212. the incense, that

  1213. you knew that

  1214. the very presence

  1215. of God was

  1216. before you.

  1217. So they're

  1218. coming in, and

  1219. they're bringing

  1220. this incense, and

  1221. they're looking at

  1222. this baby, and

  1223. they're saying,

  1224. you're a king, and

  1225. you're God.

  1226. This is who

  1227. you are.

  1228. See, Jesus

  1229. won't grow up

  1230. and become

  1231. God.

  1232. Jesus won't do

  1233. good works and

  1234. earn to be

  1235. God.

  1236. But he's

  1237. God.

  1238. That in the

  1239. most vulnerable

  1240. state, this

  1241. baby comes, and

  1242. he is God.

  1243. When you smell

  1244. it, when you

  1245. smell that

  1246. frankincense, it's

  1247. the reminder of

  1248. him before you,

  1249. and the divinity

  1250. of Emmanuel.

  1251. the divinity of

  1252. Christ.

  1253. And so then

  1254. they bring

  1255. myrrh.

  1256. Oh, you see

  1257. this.

  1258. I know you.

  1259. Like, you're

  1260. tracking with me

  1261. on this.

  1262. Remember myrrh,

  1263. the spice you

  1264. use for

  1265. embalming?

  1266. Because you

  1267. are king, and

  1268. you are God, and

  1269. you're man, and

  1270. you're going to

  1271. die.

  1272. And you're going to

1273. die on the cross, and

1274. you're going to pay the

  1275. price of sins for

  1276. humanity.

  1277. so gather before

  1278. them is the

  1279. mission of God, found

  1280. in Jesus, and

  1281. represented, that he

1282. is king, that he is

  1283. God, and that he

  1284. will die.

  1285. But praise the

  1286. Lord, the tomb will

  1287. not hold him.

  1288. And the fourth

  1289. thing, they

  1290. humbled themselves

  1291. in worship.

  1292. Matthew 2, 10

  1293. and 11, and

  1294. when they saw the

  1295. star, they

  1296. rejoiced

  1297. exceedingly with

  1298. great joy.

  1299. the journey

  1300. they've been

  1301. on.

  1302. 800 miles.

  1303. It's worth it.

  1304. It's worth it.

  1305. It's worth it.

  1306. Every bit of your

  1307. struggle is worth

  1308. it.

  1309. Every bit of this

  1310. week was worth

  1311. it.

  1312. Every time,

  1313. every time that

  1314. you were spoken

  1315. illy against, it

  1316. was worth it.

  1317. Every time they

  1318. slandered your

  1319. name, it was

  1320. worth it.

  1321. Every time they

  1322. took advantage of

  1323. you, it was

  1324. worth it.

  1325. Every time your

  1326. character was

  1327. questioned, it

  1328. was worth it.

  1329. It was worth it.

  1330. Every bit of that

  1331. 800-mile journey,

  1332. every blister, every

  1333. moment of confusion,

  1334. every struggle that

  1335. you went through is

  1336. worth it.

  1337. Verse 11, and

  1338. going into the

  1339. house, they saw

  1340. the child with

  1341. Mary's mother, and

  1342. they fell down and

  1343. worshipped him.

  1344. They humbled

  1345. themselves in worship.

  1346. These educated,

  1347. successful,

  1348. powerful men of

  1349. influence fell down

1350. on a dirt floor in

  1351. front of a teenage

  1352. girl and her baby,

  1353. humbled themselves

  1354. face, and worshipped

  1355. him.

  1356. There's a song, I'll

  1357. date myself.

  1358. When I got saved,

  1359. when I got saved,

  1360. the first, we used

1361. to do these events at

1362. the church that I was

  1363. at.

  1364. I was an intern,

  1365. wasn't there long.

  1366. It was called

  1367. Disciple Now

  1368. Weekend.

  1369. It was a cool

  1370. weekend.

1371. Our youth guy, at the

  1372. time, our youth

  1373. pastor, his name's

  1374. Mark Owens, great

  1375. godly man.

1376. I love him to death.

  1377. He just kind of

  1378. stumbled into things

  1379. sometimes.

  1380. I remember he was

  1381. talking to us, and

1382. he was like, I got

  1383. this guy, he's from

  1384. him, he's been in

  1385. Texas, but he's in

  1386. Atlanta now, he's

  1387. kind of doing some

  1388. stuff back and

  1389. forth.

  1390. His name's Chris

  1391. Tomlin, and like

  1392. some of you, you're

  1393. like my age, or

  1394. you're older, you

  1395. remember Chris

  1396. Tomlin, and if

  1397. you're younger than

  1398. that, you're just

  1399. like, I just play

  1400. his music all the

  1401. time on Christian

  1402. radio, right?

  1403. But he said, I've

  1404. got this guy, and

  1405. he's willing to

  1406. come and be our

  1407. worship leader for

  1408. D now, like, what

  1409. do you think?

  1410. And we're like,

  1411. yeah, yeah, yeah,

  1412. that would be

  1413. great, that'd be

  1414. cool, that'd be

  1415. awesome.

  1416. And I knew

  1417. nothing about

  1418. worship music for

  1419. me at that time,

  1420. like right out,

  1421. like in fifth grade

  1422. I went to a

  1423. Carmen concert,

  1424. right, and that

  1425. really dated me,

  1426. right, and if you

  1427. don't know who

  1428. Carmen is, like,

  1429. go check out some

  1430. YouTube videos,

  1431. right, enjoy that

  1432. for the rest of

  1433. your day, right?

  1434. And so we went,

  1435. and I'll never

  1436. forget, and this

  1437. verse rang just

  1438. in my mind over

  1439. and over and over

  1440. again, that they

  1441. saw Mary.

  1442. And they saw

  1443. Jesus, and these

  1444. wise men, these

  1445. magi, got on the

  1446. dirt, and they

  1447. put their face

  1448. down, and they

  1449. got dirty, and they

  1450. worshiped him.

  1451. And the verse is

  1452. like, we fall

  1453. down, we lay our

  1454. crowns, like, at the

  1455. feet of Jesus.

1456. And what I had to

  1457. repent of in that

  1458. moment, and man, I

  1459. hope this lands the

  1460. way that God's going

1461. to use it in your

  1462. life, is how many

  1463. times do I selfishly

  1464. come into worship and

1465. say, God, what can I

  1466. get from this today?

1467. God, let me be a

  1468. consumer.

  1469. And God's like, no,

1470. no, no, no, no, no,

  1471. no, no, like, you

  1472. got to get this.

  1473. Like, worship is not

  1474. you selfishly coming

  1475. to me and saying,

1476. what can you get from

  1477. me?

  1478. But like, I've been

  1479. overflowing your cup

  1480. all week long, but

  1481. worship is in the

  1482. wisdom of these men

  1483. before Jesus.

  1484. Face down, surrender

  1485. in humbleness, my

  1486. accomplishments, my

  1487. agendas, my plans

  1488. don't matter.

  1489. Jesus, I'm yours.

  1490. It's not, you've

  1491. given me everything.

  1492. You've given me more

  1493. than I could possibly

  1494. fathom.

  1495. You've given me more

  1496. than I could possibly

  1497. comprehend.

  1498. God, it's me, and I

1499. give all of me to you.

  1500. Have me.

  1501. Use me.

1502. Do with me what you

  1503. please.

  1504. And they humbled

  1505. themselves in worship.

  1506. And then lastly, you

  1507. remember Herod?

  1508. Scary man.

  1509. Scary man.

  1510. He'd sooner kill a son

  1511. than a pig.

  1512. Let me know.

1513. Let me know where he's

  1514. at.

1515. But they had a dream.

  1516. You know, God's been

  1517. speaking in dreams.

1518. God spoke to Joseph in

  1519. dreams.

  1520. And because they were

  1521. wise, because they

  1522. listened, because they

  1523. studied God's word,

  1524. because they were

  1525. obedient to God's word,

  1526. when they had the

  1527. dream, they knew that

1528. this is the dream from

  1529. God.

  1530. And it says, like,

1531. don't go that way, go

  1532. this way.

  1533. And so they did.

1534. And in this last one,

1535. what we see in the

  1536. wisdom of what it

  1537. means to follow God

1538. and the way that the

1539. wise men did, is that

  1540. they obeyed God

  1541. rather than man.

  1542. They obeyed God

  1543. rather than man.

1544. I want to tell you

  1545. something about

  1546. Herod that rings true

  1547. still today.

  1548. man has an agenda.

  1549. Man has an agenda.

  1550. Sometimes we can

  1551. justify it.

  1552. Sometimes we can

  1553. promote it.

  1554. Sometimes we can be

  1555. subtle with it.

  1556. Sometimes we can be

  1557. blatant with it.

1558. But we have an agenda

  1559. that comes from our

  1560. flesh to promote us,

1561. to be who we want to

1562. be, to do what we

  1563. want to do.

1564. But what we see is

  1565. they had faith.

1566. They had faith in the

  1567. plan of God.

1568. They had faith in the

  1569. purpose of God.

  1570. And then their desire

  1571. was to fulfill that.

  1572. You see, I don't,

  1573. I don't care what your

  1574. SAT or your ACT

  1575. score was.

  1576. I don't care whether

  1577. you went to college

  1578. or not.

  1579. I don't care what

1580. your GPA was in high

  1581. school.

  1582. I understand that at

  1583. numerous points and

  1584. times during this

  1585. message, I myself have

  1586. butchered the English

  1587. language.

  1588. The wisdom of God

1589. is not defined in the

  1590. terms of the wisdom

  1591. of this world.

1592. But it is found in the

1593. fear of the Lord and

  1594. submission to Him.

1595. And so in the next

  1596. couple days, we're

  1597. going to scatter from

  1598. this place.

  1599. We're going to gather

  1600. with friends and

  1601. families.

  1602. We're going to open

  1603. up packages.

  1604. And if you're a

  1605. believer in Jesus

  1606. Christ, and you've put

  1607. your faith, your hope,

1608. and your trust in Him,

1609. and He is your Lord and

1610. He is your Savior, I

1611. pray that for you, this

  1612. Christmas season, the

  1613. gift that you would

1614. desire above all is the

1615. gift of the wisdom of

  1616. God.

1617. to know Him and to

1618. live for Him, to take

  1619. His knowledge and His

  1620. understanding and put

  1621. those together and

  1622. practically live those

  1623. out in your life.

  1624. But if you're not a

  1625. follower of Jesus, my

1626. prayer for you is that

  1627. during this time, there's

1628. a greater gift that you

  1629. would receive.

1630. It's the gift of this

  1631. child that we talked

  1632. talked about.

  1633. This Jesus, who would

1634. walk on this earth for

  1635. roughly 33 years.

1636. He came in the form of a

1637. baby, fully God and fully

  1638. man.

  1639. In those 33 years, when I

1640. say He lived a perfect

1641. life, He lived a perfect

  1642. life.

  1643. There's no little sin, there's

1644. no big sin, there's no in

1645. between sin in His life.

1646. In His humanity and His

  1647. divinity, He lives every

1648. moment in holiness, in His

1649. thoughts, in His actions, in

  1650. His words.

1651. And He came fully God and

1652. fully man and experienced the

1653. hurts and the pains of this

  1654. world.

1655. You see, He wasn't free

  1656. from that.

1657. He knew what it was like to

  1658. lose.

1659. He knew what it was like to

  1660. hurt.

1661. He knew what it was like to

  1662. cry.

1663. He knew what it was like to

  1664. be hungry.

1665. He knew what it was like to

  1666. be betrayed.

1667. And that as He walked on

1668. this earth, that He looked

  1669. and saw humanity.

1670. He saw the evil in

  1671. humanity.

1672. He saw the destruction in

  1673. humanity.

1674. He saw the pain in

  1675. humanity.

1676. He saw the suffering in

  1677. humanity.

1678. And the Bible says that He

1679. came to save all of

  1680. humanity.

1681. To pay the price of their

1682. sin on the cross of

  1683. Calvary.

1684. And so at age 33, He was

  1685. falsely accused and

  1686. arrested.

1687. He was beaten and had a

1688. crown of thorns stuck on

  1689. His head.

  1690. The thorns weren't small,

1691. but they were, man, they

  1692. were those big, big

  1693. thorns.

  1694. I mean, they pierced

  1695. through His skin.

  1696. And He was taken.

  1697. And He was stripped

  1698. naked.

1699. He was tied to a pole.

1700. And they had a whip.

1701. And they took the whip.

1702. And they beat Him with

  1703. it.

1704. And they beat Him with

  1705. it.

  1706. And they would have

  1707. beaten Him until He

  1708. almost died.

  1709. And then they would

  1710. resuscitate Him.

  1711. And then they'd beat

  1712. Him again.

1713. And then they would take

  1714. His cross, the instrument

1715. of death that He would be

  1716. nailed to.

1717. And they would force Him

  1718. to carry it.

1719. And He'd carry it as

  1720. long as He could.

1721. To the top of a mountain.

1722. And there on the top of

  1723. that mountain, they would

  1724. take three spikes.

1725. And they'd ram Him into

  1726. His arms.

1727. And they would ram Him

  1728. through His feet.

1729. And they would hang Him

  1730. on that cross.

1731. And with all of the pain

  1732. and the experience

1733. that we had gone through,

1734. it would not be blood

1735. loss that would kill Him.

  1736. But it would be

  1737. suffocation.

1738. Because you see, when your

  1739. body's that beaten

  1740. and you hang down,

  1741. it becomes impossible

  1742. to breathe.

1743. And so the only way to

1744. breathe is to put all

  1745. of your pressure onto

1746. the nail in your feet

1747. and the nail in your hands

  1748. and pull yourself up.

1749. And while He's on the cross,

  1750. there's a thief

  1751. who deserved it.

  1752. Who deserved every moment

  1753. of it.

  1754. And He said,

  1755. remember me.

  1756. And Jesus said,

  1757. I will.

  1758. For today,

  1759. you'll be in paradise.

  1760. And here's the truth.

  1761. You and I

  1762. deserve to be

  1763. on that cross.

  1764. We do.

  1765. We're the thief.

  1766. We deserve it.

1767. You see, there's another thief

  1768. who mocked that guy.

1769. But one cried out to Jesus.

1770. And it wasn't in His goodness.

  1771. The thief.

  1772. He didn't have time

  1773. to right his wrongs.

  1774. He didn't have time

  1775. to get it right.

1776. But He put His faith,

  1777. His hope,

  1778. and His trust

  1779. in the One

1780. who always got it right.

  1781. And for you

  1782. and for me,

1783. when we put our faith

  1784. and our hope

1785. and our trust in Jesus,

  1786. then the work

  1787. of the Son

  1788. on the cross,

  1789. the Bible tells us,

  1790. is imparted

  1791. to our account.

1792. And that in His death,

  1793. the Bible teaches us

  1794. that your debt

  1795. has been marked

  1796. paid.

  1797. So the punishment

1798. is no longer on you,

  1799. but the punishment

1800. has been put on Him.

1801. But the Bible also tells us

  1802. that not only

  1803. has the debt

  1804. been paid,

1805. but we have been forgiven

  1806. and in our forgiveness

  1807. in Christ,

  1808. we've been adopted

  1809. into His family.

  1810. You see,

  1811. so on that day,

1812. the thief on the cross,

  1813. he wasn't just someone

  1814. that has been forgiven.

  1815. He wasn't someone

1816. whose debt was just paid,

  1817. but he came

  1818. as Son of God.

1819. And that three days later,

  1820. Jesus' body

1821. was dead in the tomb

  1822. that He rose again.

1823. And He rose to life.

  1824. And that the promise

  1825. for us

  1826. is that being sons

  1827. and daughters of God,

  1828. that we too,

1829. that death is not the end

  1830. in this earthly death,

1831. it's not the end for us.

  1832. And the promise

  1833. in a God

  1834. who always fulfills

  1835. His promises,

  1836. His eternity with Him.

1837. And my hope for you

  1838. this morning,

1839. if you find yourself here

  1840. and you're that skeptic,

  1841. you're that wanderer,

  1842. you're that searcher,

  1843. that today,

  1844. today,

1845. you would put your faith

  1846. and your hope

  1847. and your trust

  1848. in King Jesus.

1849. Would you pray with me?

  1850. God, we thank You.

  1851. We thank You

  1852. for the beautiful,

  1853. wonderful majesty

  1854. of who You are.

  1855. God, we stand here.

  1856. God, we are so

  1857. not worthy

1858. of Your love for us.

1859. Lord, You love us anyways.

  1860. God, I pray

  1861. that as we've seen

  1862. the wisdom

  1863. of the wise men,

  1864. that that wisdom

  1865. would ring true

  1866. in our life.

1867. God, for all of us

  1868. who have known

  1869. and trust Jesus Christ

  1870. as our Lord

  1871. and Savior,

  1872. Lord, that today,

  1873. today,

  1874. Lord, we would

  1875. commit to more.

  1876. More of seeking You.

  1877. More of trusting You.

  1878. More of knowing You.

  1879. More of obeying You.

  1880. More of worshiping You.

1881. More of submitting to You.

1882. Lord, that we would look

  1883. at this 800-mile journey

  1884. that is life.

  1885. We know,

  1886. we know

  1887. that, Lord,

1888. that You are the prize.

  1889. God, I pray

  1890. for everyone here

1891. who does not know Christ

1892. as their Lord and Savior.

  1893. God, I pray

  1894. that whatever lie

  1895. in their mind,

  1896. Lord, that they choose

  1897. to believe,

  1898. Lord, in the power

  1899. of Your Spirit

1900. that You would set them

  1901. free from it.

  1902. That You are real.

  1903. That You are good.

  1904. That You did come.

  1905. That You did die.

1906. That You did rise again.

  1907. That we are not

  1908. good enough.

  1909. That we are not

  1910. capable enough.

  1911. That there is not

  1912. another way.

  1913. That there is not

  1914. another mission.

  1915. That there is

  1916. a point.

  1917. That there is hope.

  1918. That there is peace.

  1919. That there is joy.

  1920. And all of that

  1921. is found in Christ

  1922. and Christ alone.

  1923. Lord, when You say

1924. that You are the way

1925. and You are the truth

1926. and You are the life,

  1927. You are everything.

1928. Lord, in that they would

  1929. put their faith,

  1930. their hope,

  1931. and trust in Jesus.

  1932. Lord, that they might

  1933. not understand

  1934. all of that now,

1935. but that is the beauty

  1936. of faith.

1937. Faith says you are not

  1938. going to understand it.

  1939. Faith says you can't

  1940. fully comprehend it.

  1941. Faith says you have

  1942. to trust it.

  1943. So God, right now

  1944. where they are at,

  1945. God, I pray

  1946. in their words

  1947. and the revelation

  1948. of their heart

  1949. to You

  1950. in a beautiful moment,

  1951. God, as the power

  1952. of Your Holy Spirit

  1953. is wonderfully captivating

  1954. their mind

  1955. and their heart.

  1956. Thank God they would

  1957. move from death

  1958. to life.

  1959. That they would move

  1960. from sinner to saint.

  1961. They'd move

  1962. from the old

  1963. to the new.

  1964. God, right now,

  1965. right now,

  1966. they would choose Christ.

  1967. Choose Christ.

  1968. Jesus,

  1969. You are good.

  1970. You are sufficient.

  1971. You are enough.

  1972. You are beauty.

  1973. You are hope.

  1974. You are meaning.

  1975. You are purpose.

  1976. You are eternal.

  1977. You are everlasting.

  1978. God, we repent.

  1979. We repent

  1980. when we've come

  1981. looking for more.

  1982. Jesus,

  1983. Jesus,

  1984. we just come

  1985. to You.

  1986. Listen,

  1987. Jesus,

  1988. then we pray.

  1989. Amen.

  1990. That's it for this week's message.

1991. Be sure to check back
