  1. To the start of our new series entitled, reach 23, at the way I

  2. want to start. This series is by telling you

  3. all a story. Go get comfortable.

  4. I'm going to read you this story.

  5. Hmm. On a dangerous Sea Coast.

  6. Where shipwrecks, often occurred, there was once a crude

  7. little Lifeboat station. The building was just a Hut and

  8. there was only one boat, but the few devoted members kept a

  9. constant watch over the sea and with no thought for themselves.

  10. Went out day and night tirelessly looking for lost

  11. people. Now, some of those who have been

  12. saved and various others in the surrounding area, wanted to

  13. become associated with our station, and give of their time,

  14. money and energy. For the support of this work,

  15. new boats were boards and new Crews were trained with

  16. commitment and energy little Lifeboat, station grew.

  17. Now, some members of the Lifeboat station one, happy that

  18. the building was so crude and poorly equipped.

  19. So they felt that a more comfortable place would be

  20. provided as the first Refuge of those saved from the sea.

  21. So they replaced the emergency Hammer works with bets and put

  22. better Furniture in the enlarged to build it.

  23. Now, the Lifeboat station became a very popular Gathering Place

  24. for its members, and they decorated and furnished, it

  25. beautifully, and started using it as a sort of Club view a

  26. members. We're now interested in din

  27. going out on Lifeboat missions. And so they hired Lifeboat Crews

  28. to do this work for them. life-saving, pictures and

  29. mementos decorated the club's walls, where official meetings

  30. were held Now this time a large ship was wrecked off the coast.

  31. And the hired Crews board in boatloads of cold wet.

  32. And half drowned people, they were dirty.

  33. They were sick. With different personalities and

  34. temperaments. And from other cultural

  35. backgrounds. The beautiful new club was in

  36. chaos though. The committee immediately had a

  37. shower house built outside the club where the Shipwreck victims

  38. could be cleaned up before coming inside.

  39. At the next meeting in the club membership was divided.

  40. Most of the members wanted to stop the club's life-saving

  41. activities since they were well, and that Pleasant and a

  42. hinderence to the normal social life of the club.

  43. But some members insisted that life-saving was their primary

  44. purpose and pointed out that they were still called a

  45. Lifeboat station. However, they were finally out

  46. voted and told that if they wanted to save the lives of all

  47. types of people who might be Shipwrecked, they could begin

  48. their own Lifeboat station, somewhere else further down the

  49. coast that they did. As the years went by similar

  50. changes took place in the new station as well.

  51. It also evolved into a club and consequently, another Lifeboat

  52. station was founded elsewhere. History.

  53. Continue to repeat itself. And on the Seacoast today, you

  54. will find a number of exclusive clubs along the coastline

  55. shipwrecks are still frequent in those Waters.

  56. But most of the people are never reached and say, Right story.

  57. I heard it about a week ago, it's a rather good story.

  58. And it rather makes the point I think, without me, having to get

  59. into the specifics of it, there is always a tension.

  60. There is always a tension. But we mustn't forget our

  61. primary purpose, you know, we're part of the vineyard movement.

  62. Two and a half thousand churches globally about 135 in the UK and

  63. we are a missional movement. We are a movement on a mission

  64. to save the Lost. And this church when it was,

  65. founded over 35 years ago, was founded on that mission of

  66. saving the Lost. But you see the danger exists.

  67. We can hear this story and we kind of chuckled to ourselves

  68. and say those City people. We much different.

  69. Do we not feel that same tension?

  70. I do honestly, to be fair. Let's read our mission

  71. statement. Would you like to read our

  72. mission statement? You'll find it in the Bible is

  73. in Matthew 28:19-20. Let's read it together.

    Matthew 28:19–20

  74. This is our mission statement. This is why we are a church.

  75. Let's read it. It's going to be on the screen

  76. if you're in the room, if you're online be on your device.

  77. Go therefore and Make Disciples of all Nations, baptizing them

  78. in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy

  79. Spirit. Teaching them to observe all

  80. that. I have commanded.

  81. And behold, I Am With You Always to the end of the egg.

  82. It's very simple, but we make it.

  83. Oh, so complex that is our mission.

  84. That is why we exist because there are people out there

  85. getting lost and we are called to say the loss, introduce them

  86. to Jesus. You know, last year I outlined

  87. our vision as a church for the next 10 years called reach and

  88. reaches, about extending our reach to reach the lost.

  89. It's about recognizing that we are a Lifeboat station.

  90. We're not an exclusive social club though.

  91. We love having Fellowship. Another time.

  92. I said this, it's time to reach further than we've ever reached

  93. before to spend ourselves on giving all of ourselves to him.

  94. And as a church family, we have always responded to the call of

  95. the Lord to expound our boundaries.

  96. Expand them in order to make Christ known and reach.

  97. The lost that is always been the mission of this church.

  98. And one of those verses, if you like that, we frequently visit

  99. is found in Isaiah 54, verse 2. The says this, enlarge the place

    Isaiah 54:2

  100. of your tent, stretch your tent. Curtains wide.

  101. Do not hold back. Well lengthen your cords

  102. strengthen your Steaks. That is being the cool on us as

  103. a people. Since the Inception of this

  104. church and we will continue to extend our tent pegs.

  105. Why? So that we can be that Lifeboat

  106. station that those that are lost and are Shipwrecked that is

  107. always our Focus. That is always our mission.

  108. Before covid. It was like an age away.

  109. Now doesn't look a different lifetime.

  110. The lord gave me a picture, which I shared with you when we

  111. launch reach and I was in my garden when I had this picture

  112. and in my garden, you know, we have a lovely Garden, it's

  113. well-manicured but Outside of that around a set of offenses, a

  114. Fields, not manicured left to do what the fields do. and I just

  115. had this sense that it would be very easy for me and it indeed,

  116. it is just to enjoy my garden because we got Badminton net in

  117. the you know people get these badminton Nets with other

  118. things. It's lovely.

  119. I don't want to leave my garden especially when the sun comes

  120. out. But I felt the Lord said, Mark.

  121. You've got to look Beyond into those open space, those fields

  122. that have yet to be harvested and he said that is the danger

  123. Mark of church. You see the danger of church and

  124. it links with this story is it you manicure your church to such

  125. a point. You don't want to leave it.

  126. They didn't look so lovely and don't get me wrong, I'm not

  127. suggesting that, there should be a lovely environment where we

  128. can, you know, have a spirit of excellence in this place.

  129. We want to bless people with great coffee and, you know, we

  130. want an environment where people come and go.

  131. Wow, this is different. This is not what I thought

  132. church was like those are all good things but that's not the

  133. main thing. Because if you make it the main

  134. thing you're not going to want to leave this place, you're not

  135. going to want to get it dirty. You're not want to get going to

  136. get messy people in that a lot like you.

  137. But you see the Lord reminded me in that picture.

  138. Say, listen, Mark, I'm calling you in the church to do it again

  139. and to extend your reach beyond the manicured, lawn beyond the

  140. comfortable, a place that you find yourself in and go into the

  141. Harvest because the Harvest is ready, but the laborers are few.

  142. And you see, when I launch reach, that is what I said that

  143. over the next 10 years. We are going to spend all of

  144. ourselves so that we can extend the I'll reach to reach the lost

  145. because that is our mission. So how are we going to extend

  146. our reach and I'm recapping from last year.

  147. How are we going to extend our reach to Risa last?

  148. We're going to be creating spaces.

  149. You can stay with me if you want and places the people to

  150. encounter. You see, that's how we extend

  151. our reach by creating spaces and places for people to encounter

  152. Jesus. Let's work backwards on that.

  153. You see it all about Jesus. It's all about encountering

  154. Jesus. You know, you read the Bible,

  155. the woman with the issue of blood encounter Jesus and she

  156. was healed. Nathaniel was under the Fig Tree

  157. and Jesus called him out by name and he encountered Jesus and his

  158. life was changed a woman at the well Zacchaeus in the tree the

  159. disciples and we heard a couple of weeks ago in our wonderful

  160. baptism, service on Easter Sunday, on Resurrection Sunday,

  161. those are life. Changing testimonies of people's

  162. lives have been changed by encountering Jesus.

  163. I love Antonio's, testimonies over there.

  164. He was. So, I think you said you were

  165. painting in outside your house and all of a sudden you had this

  166. Encounter With Jesus and your life has changed since what an

  167. amazing testimony. But that is the Reality of what

  168. happens. When you encounter the living

  169. Christ, that is what happens when you encounter Jesus

  170. himself. And we've been singing earlier

  171. having we about fixing our eyes on.

  172. Jesus. Can you imagine if we just sing

  173. about fixing our eyes on Jesus and encountered Jesus here, and

  174. then we leave the building were like, well, I'm done and sorted.

  175. Doesn't matter what? That my neighbors don't know.

  176. It doesn't matter that there's people out there being

  177. Shipwrecked because, at least had a fantastic son.

  178. Then wasn't the worship. Great.

  179. I mean these are the real dangers and that the tensions

  180. that we feel, but you see we are called to create spaces and

  181. places where people can encounter Jesus, you know, in

  182. John 14:6. Jesus said, I am the way, the

    John 14:6

  183. truth and the life. No one comes to the father,

  184. except through me, I am the way, not a way, the way not always

  185. lead to God. That's a lie of the enemy.

  186. Jesus is the way and he is the life, he's not just some good

  187. person, some profit, some good teacher, he is a very Living,

  188. God incarnate a died on the cross for each each one of us

  189. and so therefore it's by him that we receive eternal life.

  190. I am. Jesus says, the way the truth

  191. and the life You know, no amount of Good Works.

  192. Can be can do it. You know, Christianity is not a

  193. religion of good works. It's a religion of Grace, it's a

  194. religion. Where Jesus has done it all for

  195. us. I mean that's the only only

  196. religion you'll find that doesn't say to you if you if you

  197. perform better you can attain some kind of relationship with

  198. to God quotes. Jesus has done it all for us.

  199. And so our role here at a church, as church is to create

  200. spaces where we introduce people to Jesus.

  201. And by the Holy Spirit, he opens people's eyes to that Risen

  202. Lord, and we need to create those spaces and those places to

  203. do it. So, let's just dive into spaces

  204. and places. And you know, we thank God for

  205. the amazing of facilities that we have here, but we, but we

  206. have to be good stewards of his facilities.

  207. And when we have the call to extend our tent pegs, we have to

  208. ask the question, what more Lord can we do to create spaces for

  209. people that are current space doesn't reach?

  210. And so last year, I outlined some initiatives, some plans for

  211. 22 that we were going to do, and I want to give you a brief recap

  212. on some of those Last year, we set a Target to create a brand

  213. new youth facility, the youth Auditorium with the studio

  214. space. Breakout rooms allowing larger

  215. numbers of Youth not just on a Sunday but throughout the week

  216. to encounter Jesus and we did it.

  217. We created that space, you created that space in your

  218. sacrificial, giving and your time and your energy, and we're

  219. going to hear next week and update on those spaces.

  220. But hundreds of Youth are encountering Jesus on a Sunday

  221. and throughout throughout the week.

  222. One of the other spaces we look to create was having an

  223. intentional relationship with step and 267 organizations youth

  224. organizations to open up our building during the week.

  225. So that people would encounter youth would encounter Jesus, and

  226. we've done that, and we're doing more besides step run, Retreats

  227. here for schools, in our building.

  228. They use the use of facilities that you have worked so hard.

  229. Out for we work with 267 and about 45 other youth leaders

  230. throughout the area to host churchwide events, where people

  231. youth bring their friends from their school into this place,

  232. the illuminate Cafe, the Charlotte and others run on a

  233. Thursday night, and many other initiatives.

  234. We are creating spaces where youth have encountered Jesus.

  235. We also look to build a brand new space.

  236. For our Venture lamb kids are is 62 a 5 to 10 year olds, right?

  237. To the larger space for more children to encounter Jesus.

  238. Since last February, we have had a 75% increase in the net amount

  239. of kids that age group, because of that space.

  240. We set our sights on creating a special educational needs space

  241. and Ministry called Treasure Chest that we could.

  242. That we can invest in these special needs children.

  243. And about two weeks ago, the last of all of the equipment was

  244. installed, it is phenomenal. Feel free to go and have a p.

  245. We would have some photos next week as we have an update on

  246. that. But that's because we decided to

  247. spend ourselves and all of ourselves for him and to save

  248. the Lost. what else did we look at, we want you to create a

  249. brand-new We wanted to invest in new spaces outside of this

  250. building. We've invested heavily in our

  251. online space invested, not just money in equipment, but many of

  252. you serve in that team and we're creating some fantastic content

  253. for that. Why is this important are many

  254. people that are new in this place have found us because of

  255. online. I speak to many of you.

  256. I would say anecdotally, maybe 80% of people that visit us and

  257. become part of this church have found Us online, but more than

  258. that, there are people. Pull out there who cannot find a

  259. local church for whatever reason that at the moment.

  260. I've been blessed by the content that we produce and many are

  261. meeting Jesus through that online space.

  262. Your to give you some interesting stats YouTube

  263. subscribers a year ago before we reached launch dries. 22, we had

  264. about 300 subscribers. We're almost at 1000

  265. subscribers. And in the last 28 days, we have

  266. had seven 6,000 views of our content on YouTube alone.

  267. When a year ago, that was hardly any.

  268. Instagram, our reach has increase in one year by three

  269. thousand percent. Facebook.

  270. Our reach has increased almost 70%.

  271. And we are creating a brand new space online where people can

  272. encounter Jesus and Thiago who is our creative content produced

  273. as a fantastic job, heading up that team and working on new and

  274. new content. And we've got an exciting plan

  275. as we head into this year. In terms of new content, we've

  276. launched new devotionals this year.

  277. We've launched worship moments. We've got many more plans.

  278. We've also in Creative brand new spaces, within this building

  279. such, as the rise prophetic company, an amazing space for

  280. for Women Within writer encountered.

  281. Jesus, we launched the rise in the word.

  282. Last week, we experimented with different creative worship

  283. spaces, worship nights, and also, the worship Garden, which

  284. was amazing that was led by Shentel.

  285. And, you know, we're going to be having three of those this year,

  286. as well, which is really exciting.

  287. We've also been experimenting with the monthly worship and

  288. prayer night and I can tell you now, Now that the first month,

  289. first Tuesday of every month we've got a new space called

  290. space. It's just simply called space

  291. for every where we encountered Jesus to through prayer and

  292. through worship, that's going to be in the youth Auditorium.

  293. It will start when's the first Tuesday of next month.

  294. Not next. Not this Jews are the Chooser

  295. afterwards. So, come along join Eduardo.

  296. And I on the team as we create that space, for people to

  297. encounter Jesus, and that's going to be really And so we

  298. reject our prayer meetings. Around slightly space is going

  299. to be our monthly time where we come corporately together and

  300. break through online will continue those Tuesday night in

  301. between this led by Trevor Moore on the team.

  302. Where is an intercessory Focus. What do I mean by that?

  303. I mean simply that we stand in the gap for other be.

  304. We pray for our church. We pray for our country and

  305. other other areas of the Lord lays on a heart.

  306. That's our intercessory prayer space that we've created.

  307. That's a lot, right? In a year.

  308. Wow. Thank you Lord.

  309. And next week, we're going to have a creating spaces Focus

  310. because I tell you something, we've got some really exciting

  311. plans for the rest of this year, will reach 23.

  312. Is we create brand new spaces as we extend our facility here and

  313. as we create some new exciting service formats, as we extend

  314. our reach to those who currently don't connect with us in

  315. particular ways. Don't miss next week waiting

  316. places. Let me just give a recap on

  317. this, not just about creating spaces within these four walls.

  318. It's about saying, how do we create physical spaces outside

  319. of this building? And that's why last year we

  320. announced our have filled site. And, as I mentioned earlier, we

  321. launched Hatfield such an amazing team that are led by a

  322. Jay and Jenna and really excited about what the Lord is doing

  323. there. They've, they ran Alpha during

  324. summer, they've had social events.

  325. We now are Second Sunday and God is really moving in Hatfield

  326. through that team, really excited and I did tell you last

  327. year that I believe the lord gave me a word five in five

  328. years and so this year we're going to launch another site and

  329. so in two weeks time when we look at creating places do not

  330. miss it because we're going to be announcing what the new site

  331. is going to be this year which is and it's really exciting and

  332. so do come along to that. So reach is a 10-year plan.

  333. And God is breathing on this. We're not just coming up with

  334. things to say. Okay, let's try this.

  335. We seek the Lord and got his right.

  336. Go focus on this. Why?

  337. Because we are saying, Lord, how do we fulfill that mission that

  338. you've given us? I've been a Lifeboat station,

  339. how do we break that desire? How do we break that temptation?

  340. Just to get comfy. We break it by giving all of

  341. ourselves for those of yet to encounter Janine, And how do we

  342. do that? I want to just recap on our

  343. values. You see while our vision will

  344. evolve over time, and this is the vision that we've laid out

  345. for the next 10 years. What doesn't change is the way

  346. in which we do it, the values. What is important to us as a

  347. people? And I shared these in more

  348. detail last year but I just want to recap.

  349. It's for all of us. I'm Town Council District. 4 of

  350. these. Let me just going to be on the

  351. screen and you can look at them as a people.

  352. Our kingdom mindset and understanding of the here and

  353. not yet. That we are here to extend God's

  354. Kingdom in work. Indeed through the power of the

  355. Holy Spirit. It is that value of our kingdom

  356. mindset. That informs our need to extend

  357. his kingdom here, right. Because we recognize the reality

  358. of his kingdom breaking in and that we have a part to play in

  359. that. As a people are awareness of the

  360. presence and the power of the Holy Spirit.

  361. We don't do this just in our natural strength because quite

  362. frankly, this audacious 10-year Plan called reach.

  363. If it wasn't for God would fulfill that flat on our face.

  364. You know, when God outlined this I said this is what we can do as

  365. a church and it wasn't just myself as we talked with with

  366. leaders and team. I'll be honest.

  367. You guys have been like, really that's quite scary.

  368. That's a lot of stuff to do. Do.

  369. And she does, like, well, that's the whole point, mark.

  370. That's the whole point because I have promised that I will equip

  371. you, and if we don't extend ourselves to the degree that we

  372. need God, then, quite frankly, we might as well, all go home.

  373. We not cool to do this on our own.

  374. I mean what did Jesus say to the disciples said?

  375. Wait for you here. Wait here because the Father's

  376. Promise is going to send the holy spirit for enable you to go

  377. out from this place. You see our value?

  378. Of the Holy Spirit, the presence of the holy spirit.

  379. In the ministry of the Holy Spirit informs how we extend our

  380. reach as a people. Number three, our understanding

  381. that everyone gets to play. That the business of making

  382. Christ known is for everyone, not just the guy or gal on the

  383. stage. Everyone gets to play.

  384. Everyone has a part to play everyone and I love that house.

  385. It was talking about volunteering at earlier because

  386. everyone has been given a gift of Grace as a says, in 1 Peter,

  387. everyone has been given Gifts of Grace who introduced people to

  388. cheat. And if you're here, you're here

  389. for a reason. You're here for a reason because

  390. God has a plan and purpose for you.

  391. Create spaces and places where people can encounter G.

  392. And last one, no, we've got two more as a people, our commitment

  393. to extending the justice and compassion of Jesus, it fuels

  394. our desire to reach those who are unloved, forgotten, and

  395. marginalized by society, that we are called to stand up for those

  396. that cannot do so for themselves.

  397. That is all value of his just and lastly is our people, our

  398. priority to worship. This draws Us close to him in

  399. intimus In that place and that Center of, of giving ourselves

  400. to him as a Living Sacrifice. Of abiding in the vine that we

  401. bear fruit. You know the good works that

  402. we're talking about here are not manufactured his good words come

  403. from abiding in the Vine with Christ.

  404. They are they are fruit that comes from a relationship with

  405. him. And so these are the values that

  406. do not change. These are the values, by which

  407. directs us on how we extend our reach to reach the lost and the

  408. way in which we create spaces and places the people to

  409. encounter Jesus, I'd like to invite the band up.

  410. I recognize this has been a very much, a different type of talk.

  411. This hasn't been me expounding the word as, as we did through

  412. our normal sermon series, but we're going to be over the next

  413. few weeks looking at Reach 23, and the plans that will, the

  414. lord has laid before us to create spaces and places that

  415. people to encounter Jesus and to challenge ourselves and ask

  416. ourselves the question. What part in it?

  417. Do I have, what part can I play in this?

  418. Great Endeavor. Let me just ask by n by asking

  419. this question and then answering it for us.

  420. Why? Now, why again?

  421. Well, I hope you've got the sense of that, but here's some

  422. specific number one, God is not finished with us yet, there's a

  423. church. The call upon this chose to make

  424. rice loan still stands is about Alum who operates from the

  425. office of profit. Many of you were here in 2019.

  426. When you gave the church, a word, she says this, there are

  427. many Shepherds in this church. That needs to be released with

  428. authority, as well as a way to be opened up for them.

  429. It is a time to position people in the post.

  430. They need to be in and to open those multiple Gates.

  431. There are many racehorses in this church.

  432. Ready to run. Open the gates for the race

  433. horses of this. House release them to their

  434. races for, they need to run and that is what about creating

  435. spaces and places as about that, recognizing that everyone gets

  436. to play. And we want you to run the race

  437. that God is marked out for you. We want this to be a place where

  438. you can be equipped to walk and run in the gifts that God has

  439. given you these amazing initiatives, I just very quickly

  440. looked at from 20 to happen because of you happened because

  441. of people sacrificing their time, their energy and their

  442. money. Any and run in as racehorse.

  443. My job here. Steph's job here, the leadership

  444. teams job here. The trustees job here, the staff

  445. team is to open those gates for you.

  446. And to equip you to run that race.

  447. Number two, we have been good stewards of what God has given

  448. us this far. So he has given us more.

  449. It's a kingdom principle that he will give you x amount.

  450. Your faith will give you more. He'll give you more.

  451. He'll give you more, we shouldn't surprise.

  452. I be surprised at the more God has given us but with that Comes

  453. the requirement to be good stewards, it will be easy just

  454. to sit in comfort and say, look what we have, but that's not

  455. what it's all about. Number three.

  456. The Harvest is plentiful. The workers are few.

  457. Listen, guys. There is a lost out there a

  458. number for time. He's sure because Jesus is

  459. coming again, and when he comes again, that's it quite Frank.

  460. He will judge every man and woman in every nation.

  461. We are dealing with Souls, you know, we often say Jesus saves,

  462. we never say sage from what doing we say to our friends.

  463. Jesus saves great. What from a life of boredom as

  464. he saved me so I can have my best life yet?

  465. No, he's saving you from hell. Where you can talk about that

  466. really well then what's the point of Jesus dying on the

  467. cross. Then what's the point?

  468. He might as well go home. He saved us for a reason.

  469. He say this in order that we can have eternal relationship with a

  470. father who loves us. He saved us in order that his

  471. righteousness, the righteousness of Jesus can be given unto us.

  472. And so, when God looks at us, he looks at us as high relief, God

  473. is saving us from that. And so he loved us so much that

  474. he sent his only son to die from us, and you'll be got a world

  475. out there being Shipwrecked. And have we got the courage and

  476. boldness to say Jesus is here to save That is a challenge from to

  477. want to. I'm going to pray and then we're

  478. going to worship. That is a challenge from to want

  479. to. I'm going to pray and then we're

  480. going to worship.
