Good morning.

Listen, turn to somebody give them a high five.

It's good to have each one of you here.

So many good things happening right now.

He shores in the house merging up with us.

So lots of exciting things.

Church man, it's everything right?

You can get shoe boxes, there's crazy stuff going on.

And I also want to encourage you.

We live in a great nation where you actually have a voice.

And this week you should go out and vote.

All right.

You have that opportunity.

You have that freedom.

How many know you can't sit around and complain if you don't go out there and do something

about it, right?

So take that opportunity.

Take that freedom.

Go out and vote.

Pray over the candidates.

Let God direct you in that and go out, go out, go out.

So good to have you in God's house.

Amazing things happening.

God's on the throne.

He's still how many know he's still in control.

Amen.

Amen.

No matter what's going on in Washington, D.C.

He's in control.

Good to have you.

Well, this morning, I'm going to read you a little something just to start this message

off and it says, it's this Martin Lindstrom, a former market research expert and author

of Brandwashed, not brainwashed, Brandwashed argues that advertisers know something that

human beings have in common with birds and termites.

How many know how many you didn't know you had something common birds and termites, did

you?

All right.

Without even thinking about it, we're often controlled by peer pressure.

For instance, Lindstrom notes how many bird species rise from a field.

We see this all over the place around here in complete synchrony, right?

As though they're doing a choreographed dance.

And scientists will say that birds are acting as if they shared one collective brain.

Termites also act like one enormous termite brain.

In other words, Lindstrom writes, only by observing and mimicking the behavior of its

neighbors can a termite figure out what it's doing.

And Lindstrom observes that as consumers and human beings act much in the same way, just

like those birds and those termites, we too are wired with collective consciousness in

that we size up what's going on around us and we begin to modify our actions and behaviors.

And there's actually a university, Leeds University did a study on this.

And what they did is they got a big open area and they got between 100 and 200 people and

they put him in the room and they just had him walk around.

They weren't allowed to talk.

They were just supposed to go in and wander around the room.

What everybody in the room didn't know is they took about 5% of those people and instructed

them where to walk.

And what they found out was if people started walking in a pattern, only 5% of them, the

rest began to follow.

They tried this multiple times with different groups and up to about 200 people.

They just began to follow peer pressure is a real thing.

Amen.

It is.

If we're not consciously paying attention to what's happening around us, we will subconsciously

begin to follow the minority that is among us.

We will give into what I call the squeeze.

Say the squeeze.

All right.

It's the squeeze.

It's peer pressure without even noticing.

If we don't filter what's happening around us through God's truth, right through the

strainer of truth, God's truth, we'll start to slip into the squeeze and experts are blaming

this in multiple areas or they've pinned us down in multiple areas of our lives.

One of the things that's been taking place in society, and I don't know if you're aware

of this, but depression and anxiety have risen tremendously in the last five to 10 years

in youth and adults.

And what they have found out it is due to peer pressure in social media.

Screen time is linked to all this.

Teenagers spend about eight hours and 39 minutes per day, man, okay, on screens compared to

junior hires at 5.5 hours for preteens.

And before you cross your arms and say cop an attitude, all you adults and say those

doggone teenagers, right?

Well, adults, you are much better.

Four hours and 37 minutes, right, of screen time.

That translates.

Get this.

You spend one day per week, six days per month, 70 days per year and 12 years of your life

over a lifespan.

Wow, right?

Much of it in the squeeze.

The squeeze is real.

The squeeze is real.

Turn to somebody tell them the squeeze is real.

It's real.

It's real.

We should never feel so spiritual to believe that we would never cave into peer pressure

that somehow we're immune to the squeeze.

We should never that we would never ever give into compromise in the squeeze.

Let me remind you of a guy in the Bible named Peter, right?

One of Jesus personal disciples, one of the apostles.

And when the squeeze happened, when Jesus was on trial, when he came before the court,

when they arrested him, took him from the garden and they brought him into trial and

there were hordes of people around and these people wanted to crucify him and there was

all this taking place.

Peter himself, the guy who metaphorically beat his hand on his chest and said, Jesus,

I will never deny you ever.

I'll go to the death with you.

He denies Christ three times in the squeeze, once by a little girl, right?

Who questions him and the word of God says that he went away and he wept bitterly because

he caved in the squeeze.

The question is not, is it possible to buckle in the squeeze?

Because it is possible, right?

The question is why do we buckle sometimes in a squeeze and at other times we stand strong,

right?

Why is it one way one time and one way the next?

And the question that we need to ask ourselves, and I began to try to answer that in my own

head and in my own heart, you know, is it just that we're weak in some areas of our

life?

Do we just have moments maybe of bravery, right?

A spurt of courage comes up in us and we stand in the middle of the squeeze.

Is it situational ethics?

Does it matter, you know, the situation?

Does it depend on the situation?

Is it because we had a well thought out plan beforehand that we stand in the squeeze?

Maybe you're a person who avoids the squeeze on a regular basis, right?

You keep yourself out of that kind of situation and when it does come, you don't know, it's

overwhelming and you buckle, right?

Is it a personality thing?

Is it an influence thing?

Is it the right people, right place and right time?

Is it a lack of willpower, right?

Or determination or grit that's inside of us?

What is it that causes me to stand one minute and cave the next?

What is it?

Well, you know, while the host of things that I mentioned could be contributing factors,

I believe that the right practice of the right things will keep you strong in the squeeze.

And look into the right role model.

We'll help you find out what you need in the squeeze.

If you got your Bibles this morning, I want you to turn to Genesis chapter six.

Genesis chapter six, we're going to go talk about a man named Noah.

And while you're turning, I'm going to pray over the reading of God's word, not because

his word needs blessed, right, but because our hearing does.

Amen.

It's true.

Father, we thank you for this day for your blessings.

God I ask right now that you would just come in, Lord, speak into our hearts, our minds,

help us to hear your word.

God, let it penetrate into our spirits and Lord, that we might know and hear you and

God, that we might stand strong in the squeeze.

Lord, when the peer pressure is on, when the pressure comes, God, that we might stand before

you godly and righteous and speak your word.

And Lord, we just give you praise and glory.

And everybody say together.

Amen.

Amen.

Genesis chapter six, verse five is where I'm going to begin.

It says, the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every

intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth and he was grieved in his heart.

So the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth,

both man and beast creeping things and birds of the air from sorry that I have made them.

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

This is the genealogy of Noah.

Noah was a just man, a perfect man in his generation.

Noah walked with God and Noah begot three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.

The earth was also corrupt before God and the earth was filled with violence.

So God looked upon the earth and indeed it was corrupt.

For all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

And God said to Noah, the end of all flesh has come before me.

For the earth is filled with violence.

Through them and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Make yourself an ark of gopher wood, make rooms in the ark and covered inside and out

with pitch.

And this is how you shall make it.

God begins to instruct them.

Now just to give you a little bit of context here of what's happening timeline wise is

from the time of Adam to the time of Noah was 1056 years, one millennium.

So in one millennium when God had created man, Adam and Eve in the garden from that

time when God literally walked with man and Adam fell and then Eve fell or Eve fell and

then Adam fell from that time till then 1056 years later, there was complete complete debauchery

on the earth.

Violence filled the earth.

People no longer followed God.

They turned from God.

Rebellion had rose up in their hearts.

They were heathenistic.

Sin ravaged mankind in a thousand years to the point of having debased minds.

They didn't even they didn't even know right from wrong.

And God was sorry that he created mankind.

He was sorry that he created mankind.

Now I don't know if you've ever started something and it turned into such a mess.

It got so corrupted that you just wanted to trash it, right?

You just want to forget about it.

You just want to walk away from it.

I don't know if that's ever happened to you.

I thought of a little simple example of this.

I don't know if you've ever been to the beach on vacation somewhere.

We like to go to the beach and you get up in the morning and you're going to head down

to the shoreline and get your spot so you can play in the sand and play in the waves.

Right.

And how many know if you got to go to the shoreline, you got to take a snack with you.

Anybody with me?

All right.

You cannot go to the beach without a snack pack.

At least we don't.

All right.

So, you know, you and you got to get your snack pack ready and you get, you know, you

get the bread out and you get the peanut butter out.

Actually get the Jif out because it's the only real peanut butter.

You get you get the peanut butter out.

You smother one side.

You smother the other.

You find your favorite jelly, your favorite jam, you know, with that strawberry grape,

whatever it is.

And you smear that in between.

You put that sandwich together.

You put it in a sandwich bag.

You put it in your little pack.

Right.

Then you zip that thing up or close that thing up and you head to the beach.

And about noon.

Right.

Well, about lunchtime, 10 a.m. for me.

All right.

About lunchtime, you get hungry.

So you pull that sandwich out and you take you're just about to take that first bite

of that glorious sandwich that you built earlier that morning and it slips out of your hand

and falls in the sand.

Yeah.

It's corrupted.

Right.

You can pull that thing back out.

You can try to rip the edges off and bite in the middle.

You're going to get sand in your mouth.

And the whole thing just ends up a mess and you throw it away.

Right.

It got corrupted.

It felt that was God with mankind.

He put us in the garden and sin came into the world and mankind dropped themselves into

the sand of sin.

And it was all corrupt.

And God sitting on the throne looking down saying, why did I even go there?

Why did I even start all this?

Right.

I'm just going to start over.

I'm going to wash this clean.

The earth with a flood.

Right.

I'm just going to start over.

I'm going to restart.

And he said, I'm going to restart this with one righteous man.

There was one guy on the face of the planet that was following God.

One.

Say one.

Just one on the planet.

Noah, who did not.

He didn't succumb to the expectation.

He didn't succumb to the culture.

He didn't succumb to the violence or the influence of sin.

He resisted to squeeze, not figuratively, literally on the earth at that time.

Everybody else was doing it.

Everybody else was saying everybody else was into violence.

But Noah resisted to squeeze.

This is a guy we can learn from.

Amen.

As a guy we can hear from.

And verse eight, verse nine, I think kind of give us the keys to how Noah resisted to

squeeze.

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

This is the genealogy of Noah.

Now, listen how it describes Noah.

Noah was a just man, perfect in his generation, and Noah walked with God.

Three things, three qualities you hear about Noah.

He was a just man.

He was perfect in his generation and Noah walked with God.

Now, I want to talk about being perfect in his generation first.

Now, when I first read this, right, these three qualities of being perfect in his generation,

I'm thinking, oh, no.

All right.

I got to be perfect in my generation.

I blew that one right out of the gate.

All right.

Gone.

If I got to be perfect in my generation, past perfect up to about 110 years ago, haven't

been there since.

Right.

I'm like, what am I going to do with this?

He was perfect in his generation.

How do I follow that?

And then I started thinking about this whole situation.

I started thinking back to my childhood and I've got two sisters, I got two siblings,

and I got two sisters.

And do you know how you look perfect in your family amongst your siblings?

You just wait till your siblings are in a good old fight.

Okay.

And whatever they're doing, they're arguing, fighting, carrying on one another.

Do you know what you do?

Absolutely nothing.

Okay.

You just stand there with a big old smile on your face, you know, and your siblings

are fighting there.

They're arguing, they're duking it out.

And you just go up to your parents and say, Mom and Dad, you look a little stressed today.

Can I get you an iced tea?

Golden children is hard, you know, and let's just sit down here for a minute.

Let me get you.

How many know you look pretty perfect at that moment, right?

You look like the golden, the other two are going at it and you're just the golden child,

right?

Why can't you be like your brother?

Right?

Come on.

They didn't hear that that much, but all right.

But if your whole generation is violent and corrupt and losing their minds in sin, just

don't be violent.

Don't be corrupt, right?

And don't lose your mind in sin and you're kind of golden.

And I started thinking about that and I'm thinking, that's probably not right.

Okay.

That's probably not what God's word was really saying about Noah.

He wasn't saying Noah, you're the lesser of two evils, right?

We got all this over here.

You just said that's not what God was saying because listen, God's sovereign.

God could have said, you know what?

I'm going to start all over.

I'm going to send a meteor.

I'm going to blow this earth up and I can.

He created the first one in seven days.

He doesn't have any problem taking another week and doing another one.

He could have spoken into existence.

He could have.

He could start all over.

We become perfect in our generation when the corrupt culture that we live in is not the

culture I allow to influence me.

We get perfect in our generation when the one influencing me is not necessarily the

one that's standing in front of me.

We get perfect in my generation, right?

When my goal is to fit into Jesus culture and not this culture that's around me.

When my head, my heart and my soul is fixed on something other than this, what's around

me.

I don't know if you understand this or not, but you can be in one environment physically

and you can be in a completely different environment in your mind, in your head, in your heart

and your soul.

You really can.

I'm always amazed when I hear the story of POWs, prisoners of war, people who have survived

as prisoners of war.

Their environments are, you know, they are taken captive and they are tortured and they

are treated cruelly and a lot of times starved and they're pumped for information.

In the torture, they're trying to find out about the country or their unit in the military

or whatever they're looking for.

Their enemies trying to squeeze information out of them, literally being tortured.

And somehow some of these POWs in the middle of that kind of environment and not just days

or minutes or weeks, sometimes years and somehow in their minds, right, they train themselves

to think of other things in their mind.

There's somewhere else in their mind.

Now they're not oblivious to what's going on around them.

If you read about this, you study this at all.

Matter of fact, the prisoners that don't make it are the ones who try to just forget everything

and they're not aware of what's happening around them.

But the prisoners that make it, they're extremely aware of what's happening on the external,

but they're in a completely different place in their mind.

They train their minds and their hearts to be somewhere else than the environment that

they're in.

They're focused.

They're aware of what's going on around them, dreadfully aware of what's going on around

them, but they're in another place.

If we're going to live perfect in our generation, we have to be careful to observe the world

around us, understand the reality of what's happening outside of your own little world,

right, outside of what's going on in your head.

But you got to be in a different kingdom in your mind, right?

We got to live like foreigners in a land that I'm born in.

I want you to get a hold of this.

You got to live like a foreigner in a land that you're born of.

If you see yourself as a foreigner, if you function like a foreigner, if you see yourself

as having dual citizenship, right?

My home country is not here.

It is not here.

It's with God.

This is not my home country.

This is, I was born here.

I've been raised here.

Matter of fact, I've been born and raised in Pennsylvania, but this is not my home country.

My home country is a place called heaven.

My home country is a place where one day I will walk with God for all of eternity, for

all of time.

I just got located here for a while.

He put me here for, you know, 50, 60, 70, 80, whatever, how many years God gives me.

And when you start thinking that way, it starts to change how you react in the squeeze, right?

I react differently in the squeeze when I start to see myself, not necessarily a citizen

of this place and this time in this culture.

I belong somewhere else.

It's kind of like, it's kind of like if you travel to a different country, if you're American

and you go to a different country, right, you behave like an American when you get there

because you are American.

That's how you behave when you get there.

And you don't have to try to.

You just are.

Right.

And everybody around you knows it.

You know, I've been to just a couple of places, but they know I'm American when I get there.

I act like it, right.

I look like it.

I sound like it.

I talk like it.

I smell like it.

Whatever you want to go.

Right.

And that's what it is.

If you want to make it in the squeeze and in the world and the culture that you live

in, you got to see yourself as a foreigner in this land.

I was born here, but I don't belong here.

Right.

You got to resist in your head and your heart and your soul.

You got to identify in the Jesus culture and not the culture that's around you.

It changes who I am in the squeeze.

It changes me.

It really does.

The word of God also said that Noah was a just man.

Right.

Okay, let's just see what just means in this context of scripture.

And I looked it up and it means lawful and righteous.

It means he was lawful, righteous.

And I thought, well, that's awesome.

Right.

That's very biblical.

Follow God's law.

We should follow God's law.

We should follow God's commands.

God has commands in his word.

But then I bumped into a bit of a problem as I thought about, no, I thought, wait a minute,

there was no Bible then.

Right.

I got a little bit of a problem because the written word wasn't actually all put together

then.

And Genesis, Genesis chapter one through three, right, is all about Adam and Eve and Adam

and Eve in the garden and Adam and Eve falling into sin.

And if you go to Genesis chapter four, it's the story of Cain and Abel and how the first

murder took place between the two brothers and Cain murdering Abel.

And if you go to chapter five, it's the genealogy of the time of Adam up until the time of Noah.

So there was no commandments.

There was no written law.

You know, the Bible like we have.

Right.

So how did Noah know if he was righteous or not?

How did he know?

How did he know if he was being just?

Right.

Or even what just might have meant?

If no one ever told you the speed limit was 55 mile an hour, how would you know if you

were actually speeding?

Right.

Come on, we got some policemen in the house.

You should have said amen right there.

Right.

It's true.

How would you know?

All Noah knew about God was what was passed down from history.

Right.

He knew that Adam disobeyed and ate from a tree and rebelled against God.

He knew that if you went against what God said, then that was rebellion and that was

sin and that separated you from God.

He also knew murder was wrong because Cain and Abel in that whole account, God condemns

murder in that time.

And Cain, right, condemns his actions during that time.

So you know, he knows don't eat, don't, you know, don't eat the fruit or don't rebel against

what God says.

Don't murder.

So how did he know what was right and wrong and just in his generation?

What God's expectation was?

How did he live completely just in his generation?

You ready for it?

You ready for it?

Some things can't be learned from a book.

Amen.

I know some people come out, not even the Bible, some people are going to go like, let

me explain.

Let me explain.

All right.

Some things are learned in relationship.

Some things are learned in relationship.

God gave us the written word of God to lead you into relationship with God.

You have a Bible, so it leads you to the relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

So you know his heart.

So you know what he believes and the way you should live.

All those things.

But there's some things that are learned out of relationship.

I learned how to be a man from my dad because I spent time with my dad.

That was not in a book.

My dad did not hand me a book one day and say, this is how you learn how to be a man.

So I'm all right.

He didn't do that.

I spent time with him.

I learned how to treat people by walking with my parents and watching how my parents treated

people.

I learned how to serve walking alongside of my parents.

I learned about good work ethic and working hard from my parents.

I learned these things in a relationship context.

It was caught, not as much taught.

If you meet my dad, my dad is not like me.

All right.

I am the noisy one of the bunch.

My dad barely says three words when you're around him.

But that man taught me more than I'll probably ever be able to put in a couple of books.

But what I caught walking with him, I learned what it was to not cut corners and have integrity

when nobody is looking.

All right.

That's how he did things.

Some things have to be caught in a relationship and not just taught out of the book.

We miss big if we're not catching it with Christ, if we're not in relationship, you

know, and we're not reading God's or we're not reading who God is.

Some of what you get, some of what will get you through the squeeze in life and the peer

pressure and when things come up against you, it's going to come out of your relationship

and not just what you read in the Bible.

Some of it's going to it all goes together, right?

It's God's revelation is what God speaks to you through his word or out of his word or

even into your spirit.

And God's revelation never violates his written word and his written word, word, vice versa.

Right?

Noah was in relationship.

He caught how he was supposed to be living because he walked with God.

They call that they got a word for that, by the way, it's called conviction.

All right.

God's law will convict us.

That is the written word of God and God's spirit will convict us.

It is the revelation that God gives you in your spirit.

Both will convict you.

They call it conviction.

You got to catch.

It's not just taught.

It's caught.

It's in relationship.

You'll make it through the squeeze.

You'll make it through the peer pressure.

You'll know what is just and right by hearing God's word.

Right?

That's the God's law.

It will help you and guide you, but it will also be God's spirit.

You will miss some things if you are not in relationship and you're not hearing God's

spirit.

I can't tell you how many times the Lord has prompted me.

Something simple, something easy, something not sinful, right?

Comes up in front of you and it's just normals can be.

But how many know sometimes it's the unsinful thing that can lead you to the sinful thing.

And the Holy Spirit convicts you and says, that might be OK for somebody else, but that

is not for you.

And you need to walk away from that.

You need to go this way.

Right?

And you don't want to get caught in a squeeze.

You don't want to get yourself in that situation.

And God moves you a different way.

It's true.

It's true.

And you'll miss that if you're not in relationship.

You'll miss that.

It's the spirit of God.

One last thing I want to give you.

He walked with God.

He walked with God.

I'm going to ask the worship team to come.

I'm going to preach this to them while they're walking.

All right?

I figured it was appropriate.

Right?

He walked with God.

Come on, walk like you're walking with God.

So you come up.

All right?

I'm going to ask the worship team to do that.

Up until the time of Noah, you know, in his long genealogy of thousands of years, there's

only a few people mentioned in the Word of God that it's that that God says they walked

with God up until the time of Noah.

One was Adam and Eve.

So Adam and Eve, the Word of God says that when Adam and Eve were in the garden, this

is before they sin, in the cool of the day, when the evening would come, the Lord himself

would come down and physically walk with them in the garden.

How cool would that be?

Right?

You go out for an evening walk and God just strolls along with you.

That's what it says.

He walked with them.

A few generations later in Genesis, chapter five, you get to verse 22, it talks about

Enoch.

And Enoch, the Word of God says Enoch walked with God.

He literally walked with God.

And matter of fact, Enoch walked so close to God, he was in such tight relationship with

God that he didn't even die.

God just took him one day.

The Word of God says he just took him.

God liked Enoch so much.

Like, why don't you just come with me?

All right?

We're walking together and he just took him.

He just took him.

The third guy is mentioned is Noah.

He walked with God.

That term walk is halak.

Okay?

It's like you got a hairball stuck in your throat.

Halak.

Go ahead and say it.

Halak.

Halak.

Okay?

He walked with God.

And halak means more than just a, it means more than just strolling along.

It means more than just going out for a walk down the road.

It means that you're almost joined at the hip.

Halak means that you're glued together relationally.

It means that you're walking together in sync.

I don't know if you've ever seen an old couple who've been married for 50, 60 years.

They kind of, they just live, they live together so long, they just kind of do the same thing,

right?

It's kind of like they just flow.

They walk the same.

They talk the same.

They do the same things.

It's just, it's just that kind of thing, right?

It's walking.

It's where you step, I'll step.

It's where you go, I'll go.

It's how you think, I will think.

And it's caught in that relationship.

My grandma, when I was young on my dad's side, my dad used to go do something over there

or he'd go over to visit or he'd go over to do some work over at my grandparents.

And when I was little, like a lot of these little ones running around here, I used to

follow my dad all over the place.

And my grandmother called me his shadow.

I'd get to her house and she'd go, oh, you brought your shadow with you today.

You know, and I was his shadow.

That's what it is.

You want to overcome and to squeeze.

You want to stand firm when the pressure's on and the world's pushing in on you.

You got to live like a foreigner in the land that you were born in.

You got to know that your citizenship is in heaven and it is not here.

That you live for a different kingdom and it's not this kingdom.

Amen.

You got to stand in a different way and then you got to walk with God.

It's got to be caught, taught and caught.

You got to have halak.

Okay.

I don't know if I'm saying that right or not, but I like it.

Halak.

All right.

I'm going to ask you to stand this morning.

My parents unwittingly used to create this culture in my life.

I don't even think they really knew they were doing it.

But this idea of a different citizenship and being part of a different place, I don't think

my mom and dad realized it.

But you know, when I was doing something wrong, of course, my mom was pretty good at speech

in me.

She taught me a lot of speech about it and she talked to me about it.

Tell me what I was doing wrong.

But they used to ask some strategic questions along the way.

And I heard this more times than not.

They'd sit me down and they'd say, Kip, what do you think God thinks about that?

I'm like, do you got to bring God into this?

You know, seriously, you know, and then make me answer like, what do you think God thinks

about this?

And I'd have to answer them because I went to church, right?

They took me to church.

I went to Sunday school.

I knew what God's word said.

I knew what God expected.

I was like, oh, you know, and they began to pour into me, you know, and then they say

those old statements like, you know, Jesus sees everything, right?

You know, he sees you.

And I started somehow realizing I wasn't necessarily part of this world that that was part of I

had dual citizenship.

There was someone else watching over me.

There was somebody else who was walking with me.

There's a and through that time, those simple questions that I got asked, I started realizing

it isn't just about here and now that God sees me all the time.

He walks with me all the time.

He's there all the time.
