Thank you for listening to this message from
-
Lifehouse Church. This is it, man. This is it.
-
We've been waiting a long time. There are mixed
-
emotions all through the house, a little bit
-
of tears, a little bit of excitement, a little
-
bit of everything in between. I've gone through
-
that over the last couple of weeks, just kind
-
of lamenting as I pull in and pull out and all
-
those kind of different things. But God is on
-
the move. Amen. He's doing new things. We're
-
super excited about what's coming up in the new
-
space. And I really just wanted to take a moment
-
to thank everyone. Everybody in this house has
-
been part of the move. And there have been individuals
-
who have worked tirelessly over the last two
-
weeks, put crazy hours in, volunteers and staff
-
alike. to make the move happen. And there's still
-
more happening this week. But thank you for all
-
of you that have prayed, for all of you that
-
have been a part from the very beginning. And
-
God has just moved in so many different ways.
-
Someday we'll get to tell the stories of all
-
that God's done. And as we take this last opportunity
-
here, hopefully just, listen, just worship God,
-
right? And what God's done here. Some of you
-
have a lot of memories. Some of you have been
-
here a long time. We were thinking back through.
-
that. Halfway between 2011 and 2012, we moved
-
into this building. And it's been some time in
-
2016, we went to two gatherings here and began
-
the two gathering thing, which was a big shift
-
culturally. And now God's moving us to a new
-
spot for just Sunday a .m. We're going to maintain
-
this building for all the other things that take
-
place here through the week. But we're just excited
-
about opportunity for God to expand the kingdom.
-
That's really what this is all about. This isn't
-
about us. It's about him. Amen. So we're excited.
-
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for being a part.
-
And I'm going to get you to stand as I read the
-
first scripture, just as a way of honoring God
-
and honoring his word this morning. And I thought
-
this particular scripture would be fitting for
-
our last Sunday AM gathering here this morning.
-
And it's Ecclesiastes chapter three, verse one.
-
It says this, to everything there is a season.
-
Amen. Everything. A time for every purpose under
-
heaven. A time to be born. and a time to die,
-
a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is
-
planted, a time to kill and a time to heal, a
-
time to break down and a time to build up. There's
-
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to
-
mourn and a time to dance, a time to cast away
-
stones and a time to gather stones, a time to
-
embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
-
a time to gain and a time to lose, a time to
-
keep and a time to throw away. a time to tear,
-
a time to sow, a time to keep silence, and a
-
time to speak, a time to love, and a time to
-
hate, a time of war, and a time of peace. To
-
everything, there is a season. If you would,
-
if you'd bow your heads. Father, we thank you
-
for this day. I thank you for, God, the opportunity
-
to come one more time in this place on a Sunday
-
morning and worship you together as a body of
-
believers. And Lord, we just give you praise
-
and glory. Lord, we know that there's going to
-
be plenty of worship services taking place here
-
with the youth. And God, so many things are going
-
to happen with, God, life groups. And Lord, we're
-
just excited about all the things that are going
-
to take place. But Lord, we celebrate this season,
-
this page that's about to turn. We thank you
-
for all that you've done. in this house, and
-
we just give you praise and glory in Jesus' name,
-
and amen and amen. God bless you. You may be
-
seated. I thought this verse was appropriate
-
to start this last gathering here this morning,
-
the last first gathering. We've still got one
-
more to go, right, after this. But I thought
-
it was important for two reasons, because one,
-
there really is a season to everything. Nothing
-
is forever, right, other than the Lord himself,
-
and one day we'll be with him. But on this earth,
-
everything has a season, and it's a time to change
-
that season to turn the page, right? But the
-
second reason I use that verse is because that
-
verse talks about about something that I've talked
-
about last week and have been talking about along
-
the way, and it's this. Life is full of change.
-
It is full of change. It's always shifting gears,
-
month to month, week to week, right? Day to day,
-
minute by minute, it changes. There's a barrage
-
of change that takes place in our life on a regular
-
basis, day to day, week to week, month to month,
-
minute by minute. It's true. And if we would
-
actually stop the inventory, the decisions that
-
we make in a given day while we're navigating
-
change, it would amount to, and this is what
-
they've checked this, this is what it averages
-
to. The average person makes 35 ,000 decisions
-
about change in a day. Wow. Go ahead, say, wow.
-
right? That's a big deal, right? And it could
-
be as simple, it could be as simple as like you're
-
navigating change, right? When maybe you pull
-
up to a red light, and it's red, and you gotta,
-
and it turns green, you gotta, there's a change
-
that took place, right? It went from red to green,
-
and you gotta hit the gas pedal and go, because
-
if not, there's gonna be three people behind
-
you hitting a horn, right? And you gotta navigate
-
that change. It could be as simple as that, or
-
it could be a life -changing decision of making
-
a decision of who you're going to one day maybe
-
propose, to and spend the rest of your life with,
-
right? An engagement that would take place. There's
-
change constantly taking place. And 35 ,000 times
-
a day, you're making a decision in the midst
-
of some kind of change. That's crazy. It's true,
-
right? Decisions in the midst of change. And
-
the challenge in the middle of the change is
-
always this. It's always about keeping my head
-
straight and keeping my mind on track. It really
-
is. Keeping my thoughts in the right place. navigating
-
the change, keeping good thoughts, God thoughts
-
in my head, and not all these other thoughts
-
that can come along with it, right? Keeping my
-
mind in a good place during the change, because
-
where I'm at in my head, in the middle of the
-
change, is going to have everything to do with
-
where I land on the opposite side of the change,
-
right? So an important thing to ask myself at
-
the beginning, in the middle, or even at the
-
end of change is this question. What, now if
-
you're taking notes, it's a good place to write
-
down. What in the world was I thinking, right?
-
What in the world was I thinking? Did you ever
-
ask yourself that question? What in the world
-
am I thinking, right? What was I thinking? What
-
was I thinking in the middle of that change?
-
What were my thoughts fixed on when things were
-
shifting and moving from here over to here, right?
-
Where's my head at in the middle of the change?
-
Chuck Swindoll says this, life is 10 % of what
-
happens to us and 90 % how we respond to it.
-
It's true, right? 90 % of how we respond to the
-
change. What's going on in your head has everything
-
to do. What in the world were you thinking in
-
the middle of the change? More than once, I heard
-
my parents speak those words to me or something
-
similar to those words. Come on, some of you
-
are laughing because you're right there with
-
me, right? What were you thinking? And I'm not
-
sure if I told this story or not when I was young.
-
And listen, if I did tell this story before here
-
at LifeHouse, here's the thing. I'm a little
-
gray, and that gives you a pass to say your story
-
all over again. How many know that's true, right?
-
Because old people repeat ourselves. We do that
-
all the time. It's okay. It's true, right? But
-
when I was about 14 years old, we lived on 50
-
acres. It was a small farm. When I was about
-
14 years old, my dad made the decision to teach
-
me how to drive a truck. What was he thinking,
-
right? I was 14. We had this old farm truck.
-
And if you don't know what a farm truck is, it's
-
an old pickup truck that is actually not roadworthy
-
anymore. It won't pass inspection. You don't
-
drive it on the road, but it's good enough to
-
haul things around on the farm and move things
-
from one spot to another. And about 14 years
-
of age, My dad decided it was good for me to
-
learn how to drive the farm truck. So it was
-
a stick shift, and he got me in, and he taught
-
me how to start out on a hill and on the flats,
-
right? And I learned how to drive a truck at
-
14 years of age. And to a 14 -year -old, it's
-
like, yes, right? It's the coolest thing in the
-
world. What was my dad thinking? Because here's
-
the thing, and some of you that are a little
-
bit older like I am, you're going to remember
-
this TV show, but me and the kid that lived down
-
the road, his name was Sam. friend of mine, we
-
used to watch the Dukes of Hazzard. Yeah, right?
-
And if you know anything about the Dukes of Hazzard,
-
right, it's not a complicated plot in that show,
-
by the way, right? It was Daisy Duke, Bo, and
-
Luke Duke. They're all three siblings who lived
-
with Uncle Jesse. And the premise was they lived
-
in Hazard County out in the middle of Georgia
-
somewhere in the sticks, and there was this kind
-
of crazy sheriff who would just chase them around
-
all the time in a car, right? Roscoe P. Coltrane
-
was the sheriff, and he would chase them all
-
the time, try to catch them, but he'd never ever
-
catch them, right? And the whole premise of the
-
show was, that they would jump through barns
-
with the car. They had this hot rod car, and
-
they'd jump through barns. They'd jump over ditches.
-
They'd climb up over hills and jump in the air.
-
And me and my friend Sam thought, that's pretty
-
awesome, right? I bet you the farm truck could
-
do this. So there was a property next door to
-
us that had a very big pile of dirt, and let's
-
do it. So I gave that truck everything it was
-
worth, and I got a good run. And I don't know
-
how much air I caught, but I know this. When
-
I landed, I tore the entire exhaust system straight
-
out from underneath the truck. He was laying
-
in a heap behind the truck, right? And unbeknownst
-
to me, my dad was standing up in the field watching
-
me. Yeah. What in the world were you thinking?
-
I heard that a lot over the next day or two.
-
What were you thinking, right? What were the
-
thoughts in your head while you were going through
-
this change called teenage life, right? And let
-
me tell you something. I did not fare well on
-
the other side of change. I didn't. And here's
-
how critical this really is. My thoughts while
-
I'm experiencing change is so critical it would
-
determine who I become. That's how important
-
this is. The thoughts that I have, some of you
-
don't believe me, but I'm going to show you.
-
We're done, right? My thoughts while experiencing
-
change will determine who I become on the other
-
side of change. Not just where I land, but who
-
I become on the other side of change. If my thoughts
-
are fixed, on fear in the middle of change, while
-
I'm experiencing change, if all I can think about
-
is what could happen and what might happen and
-
how horrible it's going to be, you know what
-
you'll become? You will become fear in the change.
-
You will become fearful. It's one thing, it's
-
very natural to experience fear in a change.
-
It's a whole other thing when your identity becomes
-
fear in the change. Whole different thing, right?
-
If my mind is only fixed on loss. in the middle
-
of change. What I'm going to lose in the middle
-
of change, right? The lack that's going to take
-
place. Do you know what happens to you? You become
-
lack. You know what that means? You're depressed.
-
That's what it means when you're depressed. It
-
means something's lacking in your life and you
-
become depressed. If your mind is fixed on that
-
in the middle of change, you will become that
-
out the other side of the change. If you get
-
caught in that, if it's not just a passing thought
-
or something that you deal with, right? If I'm
-
constantly angry in the change. I will become
-
anger. I will become rage. I will become wrath
-
on the other side of the change. I really will.
-
If my brain's fixed on things or being out of
-
control in the middle of the change, I will become
-
chaos on the other side of the change. What we
-
think on in the middle of change is what we become.
-
It's true. Proverbs 23, 7 says this, and it's
-
actually a portion of this scripture, says, so
-
a man thinketh, so he is. I thought this was
-
an exaggeration, honestly. The first time I read
-
it, I thought, well, this is real good. But it's
-
true. It's completely true. What we think on
-
in the middle of change will become who you are.
-
Turn to the person beside you, tell them, you
-
know, you're going to become what you're thinking.
-
Just tell them right now, testify. You're going
-
to become what you're thinking on in the middle
-
of the change, right? Tell them that. Come on.
-
And listen, the apostle Paul, he gives a little
-
more instruction about this thinking process
-
and this thought of life in the middle of change.
-
And he does it in a letter to Philippi. Now,
-
Paul's letter to Philippi is not like other letters
-
that he wrote to Galatians and Colossians, right?
-
Those were more epistles and letters that were
-
in response to crisis. And if you read the book
-
of Corinthians, that's going to be more about
-
spiritual correction. But the Philippian church,
-
the believers of Philippi were actually very...
-
immature believers. And Paul would write them
-
and he would encourage them. It was the inspired
-
word of God that the Holy Spirit would write
-
and that he would pen. And it's why you hear
-
a lot of times, you'll hear scriptures that are
-
quoted out of Philippians, right? You'll hear
-
things like, he who began a good work in you,
-
right, will perfect it until the day of Jesus
-
or Christ Jesus, which is Philippians 1 .6, or
-
to live as Christ and to die as gain. You'll
-
hear that. I can do all things through Christ
-
who what? Yeah, who strengthens me. We quote
-
those, and Paul was writing to these mature believers.
-
But in Philippians 4, 6, he begins to give us
-
some thoughts. He begins to give us direction
-
on thinking in the change. And 4, 6 begins like
-
this. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything
-
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving,
-
let your requests be known to God. And the peace
-
of God which surpasses all understanding will
-
guard your hearts and your what? Minds, right?
-
Through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever
-
things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever
-
things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever
-
things are lovely, whatever things are of good
-
report, if there's any virtue and if there's
-
anything praiseworthy, meditate, right? Think,
-
focus on these things. The things which you've
-
learned and received and heard and saw in me,
-
these do and the God of peace will be with you.
-
Here's what it's saying. If you want to become
-
pure, guess what you have to be thinking on while
-
you're in the middle of the change? Pure things.
-
If you want to become truthful, you've got to
-
speak and think on the truth. If you want to
-
become noble in your life in the middle of change,
-
you've got to think noble things. If you want
-
to be just or lovely or of good report or you
-
want to be something that's going to be virtuous,
-
someone who's virtuous out the other end, you've
-
got to be thinking on these things in the middle
-
of the change. Because I become what I think
-
on in the middle of change. The thought that
-
your brain parks on is what you become in the
-
35 ,000 plus, right? 35 ,000 plus decisions that
-
you're making in the middle of change every single
-
day. It's true. Dr. Caroline Leaf, who wrote
-
the book Switch On Your Brain, says something
-
like this. And if you don't know who Dr. Leaf
-
is, she's first of all a communication pathologist,
-
an audiologist, and a clinical neuroscientist
-
specializing in research in psych neurobiology.
-
You can look all that up later, okay? She's very
-
well credentialed. But she says this in her book.
-
She says, our thoughts, imagination, and choices
-
can change the structure and function of our
-
brains on every level. molecular, genetic, epigenetic,
-
cellular, structural, neurochemical, electromagnetic,
-
and even subatomic. Through our thoughts, we
-
can be our own brain surgeons as we make choices
-
that change the circuits in our brain. We are
-
designed to do our own brain surgery. The science
-
is this. Our thoughts physically change our brain,
-
literally change your brain. It's not your brain
-
that changes your thoughts. It's your thoughts
-
that literally reconstruct, rewire your brain.
-
In simple terms, my brain becomes what I think
-
on. It literally becomes what I think on. So
-
when I become, you know, when I'm in the middle
-
of those 35 ,000 plus changes each day that take
-
place, what I'm thinking on is actually what
-
my brain is becoming. What my thoughts are fixed
-
on in the middle of whatever experience is going
-
on. That's what I become. It is true. Science
-
always proves what God's word says. Always, right?
-
And man, have I found this to be true, you know,
-
during this change that's been taking place,
-
going from this location to the next. Because
-
how many know it's really easy for fear to get
-
in there, right? It's really easy for fear to
-
sneak in. You know, when this all started and
-
we started looking at this and it got serious
-
and we voted on it and the church said, yes,
-
we're going to go do this, you know, I started
-
thinking all kinds of crazy thoughts like, what
-
if we make the change and everybody hates it?
-
You know, how many of you always go with the
-
worst case scenario, right? All couple hundred
-
people are just going to absolutely hate this.
-
You know, and they're all going to leave, and
-
they're all going to hate me. You know, and you
-
can go on and on, right? You can get lost in
-
that. Or what if it changes our culture and who
-
we are? Or what if we don't like this? Or what
-
if we don't like that? And you can get caught
-
in the fear. And you start to build. You start
-
to build in your brain these neurons, right?
-
You start to build circuits. And you begin to
-
think on. All the time. And if you don't stop
-
that loop, how many of you got a loop in your
-
brain? Circuits tie together. You start looping
-
in your head these thoughts, and they start going
-
back around. How many of you loop enough, you'll
-
wake up in the middle of the night thinking the
-
same thoughts, right? You wake up in the middle
-
of the night, got to go to the bathroom, and
-
you're thinking, why am I thinking this? Right?
-
Stop it. You're just going in your head, going
-
around and around. What in the world are you
-
thinking in the change? What is the loop in your
-
brain fixed on? Look at the person beside you
-
one more time. Ask them, what's looping up there?
-
Come on. What's looping up there? You might not
-
want to know, right? What's looping up there?
-
And can I take this just a little bit further?
-
Because here's the thing. A sinful thought looping
-
up there? sooner or later you'll become the sin.
-
You know, what you're fantasizing about, the
-
sin that you're fantasizing about or longing
-
about, sooner or later you become that. How many
-
know that always starts in the mind? The six
-
inches between your ears. Sin doesn't start down
-
here, down your feet. It starts in the six inches
-
between your ears. And the longer you dwell on
-
it, the more you fantasize about it, you will
-
become that sooner or later. You'll land in a
-
place that you don't want to be. You'll stay
-
longer than you want to stay because that's what
-
sin does, right? And you'll pay more than you
-
want to pay. That's what sin does. It's true,
-
right? What in the world are you thinking? What
-
in the world are you thinking? Because you're
-
building real estate. Up in your mind. I don't
-
know if you know it or not. Whatever you're thinking
-
on, you're building real estate up there. You're
-
building circuitry up there. And if it's not
-
a good thing, if it's not a God thing, if it's
-
not a righteous thing, can I tell you what to
-
do? Just confess and repent right now. Not to
-
me. You can do that to Jesus. I mean, if you
-
want to confess to me, I'm glad to listen. But
-
just confess and repent. Repent means to change.
-
You've got to begin to change. You're going this
-
way, and if I repent, that means I'm going that
-
way. You've got to change what you're thinking.
-
You've got to change it, right? Control the brain
-
loop or the brain loop will control you. You
-
got to control the brain loop or it's going to
-
control you. I taught on this a little while
-
back. I can't remember which message it was,
-
just a few messages ago, but let's dive just
-
a little bit deeper in it because Paul's writing
-
to Corinth right now. And you gotta remember
-
just a little earlier, I said when he was writing
-
to Corinth, it was more in a correctional nature.
-
And you'll hear that tone in this portion of
-
scripture. But it says this in 2 Corinthians
-
10, verse one. It says, now I, Paul, myself am
-
pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness
-
of Christ, who in the presence am lowly among
-
you. Being absent, I am bold. toward you. So
-
he talks about being lowly among you. Then he
-
talks about being bold. That's how Paul does.
-
He jumps back and forth, right? He's like, I'm
-
lowly, but when I get there, I'm going to tell
-
you how it really works, right? But I beg you
-
that when I am present, I may not be bold with
-
confidence by which I intend to be bold against
-
some who think of us as if we walked according
-
to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh,
-
we do not war according to the flesh. For the
-
weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty
-
in God for pulling down strongholds. Casting
-
down arguments and every high thing that exalts
-
itself against the knowledge of God, bringing
-
every thought into captivity to the obedience
-
of Christ and being ready to punish all disobedience
-
when your obedience is fulfilled. Bring every
-
thought into captivity in obedience to Christ
-
Jesus. So what he's saying is you got to take
-
those rogue thoughts, those things that dip you
-
into fear or anxiety or lack or even sin, any
-
of those things, and you got to take that thought
-
and you got to imprison that thing. You got to
-
take it captive, right? You take it at gunpoint
-
in your head. That's the only thing you should
-
ever take at gunpoint, right? You take it in
-
your head. You capture that thought. You bind
-
that thing and you lock it away so you never
-
hear it again. You bring it into obedience to
-
Christ. It's true. You've got to take it captive.
-
And if I could give you a good rule of thumb,
-
so this isn't just preaching and theory and what
-
God's Word says, a good rule of thumb is this.
-
Anything that you think of, if you had to verbalize
-
that standing in front of Jesus, would you ask
-
yourself, do I need to take this captive and
-
pack this thing away so I never think about it
-
again? Or am I perfectly comfortable saying this
-
in front of Jesus Christ? Right? Am I comfortable
-
because this doesn't violate God's word in any
-
way? It doesn't violate his holy nature and righteousness
-
in any way, right? Is this good and right in
-
his eyes? So if you can take whatever thoughts
-
in your head and you could verbalize it in front
-
of Jesus and Jesus would be okay with it, you
-
don't have to take that captive. You can let
-
that loose. You can speak it into the air. But
-
if it is something that you would not say in
-
front of Jesus, it's something that you would
-
not go there with him and you know it's unrighteous.
-
and you know it's unhealthy, or you know it's
-
sinful, you need to capture that thing. And you
-
need to lock it up. Amen? It's true. You need
-
to imprison it. Because you will become that
-
if you dwell on it. If you stay there in the
-
change, as you shift through life, you will become
-
that thing. And I know it sounds radical, but
-
it's not. You need to take thoughts captive.
-
God's given you the power. He really has. And
-
let me jump back to Switch on Your Brain by Dr.
-
Caroline Leaf. How many know the science always
-
catches up with what God's word has to say? It
-
says this, getting your thoughts disciplined
-
and under control is one of the first steps in
-
freeing yourself of burdens of the world and
-
begin to enjoy life despite the burdens of the
-
world. When you objectively observe your own
-
thinking with the view of capturing rogue thoughts,
-
you in effect direct your attention to stop the
-
negative impact. and rewire healthy new circuits
-
into your brain. You literally rewire. Capturing
-
thoughts and taking them captive, and you begin
-
to think on the right things, you will rewire
-
your brain. Romans 12 .1 bears this out. It really
-
does. Very familiar piece of scripture, right?
-
I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies
-
of God, that you present your bodies a living
-
sacrifice, holy and acceptable God, which is
-
your reasonable service. And do not be conformed
-
to this world, but be transformed by the renewing.
-
You can put rewiring in there if you wanted to.
-
By the renewing of your mind, that you may prove
-
what is good and acceptable and the perfect will
-
of God. You got to rewire it, man. You got to
-
renew it. You got to revitalize your thoughts.
-
You got to take captive what is dragging you
-
down. You got negativity spewing out of you.
-
I guarantee it's what's looping up in your brain.
-
Amen? You got to grab a hold of that thing. You
-
got to say no, right? You got to take authority
-
over your thinking. I know it sounds weird, but
-
we've got this unique ability as human beings
-
to stand outside and examine our own thoughts.
-
Isn't that crazy? You can think while you're
-
thinking. Isn't that awesome, right? It's kind
-
of like a matrix kind of thing. I don't know.
-
It's wild, right? But we can. And we got to start.
-
And listen, I understand this is a process. You're
-
not going to rebuild. How many know if you've
-
got a rewired house? Now, how many of you have
-
ever rewired anything? Like three of you. Okay,
-
let me explain this, okay? If you've got to rewire
-
a house, here's what you have to do. Like anything
-
you're going to redo, you've got to get the old
-
stuff out first, right? You've got to pull all
-
the old stuff out. You're going to have to tear
-
some things down. You're going to have to pull
-
some down, some plaster, and you've got to pull
-
out the old wiring, right? You've got to pull
-
down the drywall, whatever you've got to do.
-
There's a process. You've got to tear some of
-
that out. That's taking it captive, right? And
-
you've got to tear that thing out. And then you
-
start putting the new stuff in, and all of a
-
sudden, the light. starts coming on, right? And
-
things begin to work and things begin to switch
-
on in your brain. It's a process that God walks
-
us through. And it's the renewing of your mind.
-
A lot of people want to know what deliverance
-
is all about. And God can instantly deliver.
-
That's a miracle. That's called a miracle in
-
scripture. He can deliver you in a heartbeat,
-
but nine times out of 10, he's walking you through
-
the process. And you're going to come out the
-
other side, delivered and whole and free. But
-
you got to go through the process. You got to
-
tear out the old and you got to come in with
-
the new. And when you begin to renew your mind,
-
all of a sudden, you begin to rewire a new real
-
estate building your brain. And what you were
-
up here is no longer there, and you become something
-
brand new. The world will not tell you this.
-
The world will tell you you are captive to your
-
mind, and what you were, you always will be.
-
And that is not what God's Word says. He says
-
you become a new creature, a new creation. Amen?
-
Inside out. Mind on out. How many know what your
-
brain does? The body follows. It's true, right?
-
It's true. Last thing I want to leave you. Man,
-
this is the last thing I'm going to leave you,
-
literally. Last point, right? At Terrace Avenue
-
location. Jesus is the one who can change the
-
loop in our lives. He really is. In John chapter
John 4 chapter mention
-
4, Jesus is sitting by a well that borders. It's
-
actually within the borders of Samaria. And a
-
woman comes to the well to draw water. And Jesus
-
uses what's close by, which is the well, to get
-
into a conversation with this woman. And because
-
he's Jesus, and Jesus always was led by the Spirit,
-
and he knew things because of the Holy Spirit,
-
Jesus knows that this woman has been, she's been
-
married five times, and she's currently living
-
with a man. He knows this, right, because the
-
Spirit left him know this, the Holy Spirit. And
-
he calls her on it. He begins to expose the relationship
-
loop that's been going on in her head where this
-
woman's been thinking. He calls her on it, right?
-
Five husbands that now live in, and she's had
-
this bad relationship. loop I call bad juju in
-
your brain. How many know that that's a thing,
-
right? You get bad juju in your brain. She's
-
had this bad relationship loop going on in her
-
brain, and she's seeking something among all
-
these men that she's been with, and she's not
-
finding it, right? She's stuck in this cycle
-
in her mind that has now led her even into sin.
-
And Jesus, in a moment in time, begins to change
-
the loop in her thinking. In John 4, 14, he says
-
this, but whoever drinks of the water water that
-
I shall give will never thirst, but the water
-
that I shall give him will become in him a fountain
-
of water springing up into everlasting life.
-
Jesus, in a sense, was talking to this woman
-
and saying, what were you thinking? You found
-
nothing in the stagnation of following relationships
-
the world's way, right? You found nothing. It's
-
left you empty and dry, or it's stagnant. How
-
many know stagnant water is no good to drink,
-
right? bitter. It's unhealthy for you. And he
-
says, but if you follow me, right, let me tell
-
you where the relationship ladder should start.
-
It should start in me. If you start in me, if
-
you start with the Messiah, if you start with
-
Jesus, rivers of living, that's what he talks
-
about in another place in scripture, rivers of
-
living water will come out of you. You'll be
-
a fountain of new life that will come out of
-
you. And he's talking, it's the Savior talking
-
to her, and he starts to change the loop in her
-
head. He interrupts, right, the thought process.
-
that was there, and he starts to put something.
-
He begins to rewire her brain right there on
-
the spot. And because he's Jesus, he speaks,
-
right? And he says that all those relationships
-
will not be your all in all. I am. Amen? It's
-
true. I tell young couples this all the time,
-
doing premarital counseling or something. I tell
-
them, look across the table. That person you're
-
looking at is not going to be your all in all.
-
You're lucky if they're going to be your sometime
-
in sometime. It's true. Come on, all the married
-
people are laughing, right? It's true. Jesus
-
is your all in all. Don't put that kind of pressure
-
on a person. Amen? That's above their pay grade.
-
They can't hold up to that. They really can't.
-
Your relationship. And Jesus rewires this woman's
-
brain. She starts to understand that it is the
-
Messiah standing in front of her and that he
-
is the first relationship. And how many know
-
if you get the first relationship, right, all
-
the other relationships start to straighten up.
-
It's true. It's true. Rewire your brain. I'm
-
going to ask you to stand. As the worship team
-
comes. What in the world are you thinking? What
-
in the world are you thinking? What were you
-
thinking? What are you thinking? Because you're
-
in the middle of change, whether you realize
-
it or not. You know, you're heading towards halfway
-
through the day. You've got thousands of decisions
-
and change that were already made just getting
-
here this morning. What are you thinking? Where
-
are you at? What's your mind in the loop, right?
-
What's going on in the loop in your mind? What
-
are you feeding yourself? What are you rewiring
-
in your brain? Because you're building real estate,
-
whether you realize it or not, whatever you're
-
dwelling on, whatever you're building up is staying
-
in your mind. You're building blocks of things,
-
amen? And sometimes you got to rewire the house.
-
You got to tear out what was there. That woman
-
at the well, in that moment in time when Jesus
-
realized she had some bad wiring going on up
-
here, right? Bad juju going on up here. And she
-
needed the wire pulled out. And Jesus began to
-
rebuild, began to rewire her thinking. Began
-
to show her a new way. So I want you to bow your
-
heads this morning. I want you just to examine
-
yourself. Where are you at? Where are you at
-
in this? This is one of those messages where
-
we got to, listen, this is going to have everything
-
to do with who you become and where you land
-
on the other side of it. It will have everything
-
to do with where you land and who you become.
-
That's how important this is. What's looping
-
up there? What do you got to shift? What area
-
of your life? Is it fear? Right? Is it jealousy?
-
Is it anger? Is there some other place? And if
-
it's not, man, just keep dwelling on the things
-
of God and let God rebuild and rewire and bring
-
you to a place of authority. We heard it a little
-
earlier, right? Just walk in the authority of
-
God. That's where he wants you, right? Let him
-
do that. But if not, you got to realize it because
-
first of all, God won't fix what you won't name,
-
what you won't confess. You've got to confess
-
it. So confess it to Him right now. Whatever
-
the area that is, it's messed up in you, and
-
it's messed up thinking, and you know it. You've
-
been looping on that thing a while. Right now,
-
you just confess it to Him. And then you've got
-
to speak out, and you've got to tell Him, I'm
-
willing to repent. So Lord, start ripping the
-
wiring out. Start pulling it out. I want rebuilt.
-
I want some new wiring in my house. So just right
-
now, just speak it out to Him. Pray to Him. You
-
don't need me to lead you in this. You can pray
-
to Him yourself right now. Just speak, ask Him
-
right now in this moment. Just as they're playing,
-
I'm going to be quiet for just a minute. I want
-
you just to focus on Him. Jesus is the one who
-
will rewire. Jesus is the one who will renew.
-
Jesus is the one who will begin to shift everything.
-
What you're thinking on in the change is what
-
you'll become. Just take another minute to pray
-
with them. Just you and Jesus. Just you and the
-
Lord. Just Holy Spirit speaking in you and through
-
you. Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit connecting
-
with you this morning. Just take a moment. Ask
-
him. You got to ask him, Lord, rewire me. Lord,
-
rewire me. Lord, change this in my head and in
-
my heart. Rewire me this morning. Change it up
-
in me. Lord, I thank you. Then begin to thank
-
him. Lord, I thank you. I'm believing right now.
-
God, it's going to shift. It's going to change
-
because I named it. And Lord, I've committed
-
to repent. God, I've named it and I committed
-
to change. I've committed to shift something.
-
I'm not going to stay there any longer. I'm going
-
to start taking captive. When that thought comes
-
in my head, I'm going to grab that thing and
-
I'm going to hold it up and I'm going to stick
-
it in a cell. I'm going to duct tape its mouth
-
shut and it's going to stay there. And I'm never
-
going to look at it again. I'm starting the process,
-
Lord. Rewire my brain. Rebuild it. Rebuild it.
-
Lord, I thank you for each one in the house,
-
Lord. God, I pray that you constantly rewire
-
us, Lord. Help us, Lord, to see and to know and
-
to walk in your authority. God, greater and greater
-
every single day. Lord, we give you praise. We
-
give you glory and honor in Jesus' name. We pray
-
that you were impacted powerfully by this message.
